Preps is live in Birmingham. Good morning, Blad.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
How are you morning? Guys? Are we doing?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
We're doing good, man, We're doing good. How's everything in
your world? Here? You said again, Joe, I said, hi, Glad,
how are you?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
How are we doing? I'm good man, I'm good.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
You good, Blad?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, I know, had another great week and I'm moving
along now getting into week six.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, week six, Week five is what they call it.
Week six. Yeah, with you, it's a six game. Tell
me what we got on your radar? You got about
nine minutes, eight minutes.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Well, we got the biggest game of the week I
think is easily gonna be Thompson and Clay Chalkvielle played
on Thursday night at Cougar Stadium this year. They've played
it in Alabaster the past three seasons and well clay
Chalkville is won the last two and they say bring
it over to our house. Other than that, you've got
(01:03):
some big games with Hoover playing Parker High School. That'll
be really fun. You've got some lower classification games like
glenn Wood and Wildly. That one's going to be really
interesting played on Thursday as well, you know, not to mention,
you know, just some other lower class games. Let me
(01:24):
see here, just had it pulled up. There it is.
You have glen Coe, who's just off to a good
start this season against Toast Bluff. You've got Laverne and
Montgomery Academy, two unbeaten teams. Montgomery Academy from three A,
Laverne from two A. And then you've got Winfield and
Fayette County. So you've got some big out of region
(01:44):
games you know that are going to be really good
tests for both of these teams and just you know,
trying to get themselves ready for the playoffs. You know,
these in region games sometimes aren't the best litmus tests
for you, you know, when it I'm playing playoff competition.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Well you're right about that, good point. Did you What
did you think of last week's Benjamin Russell Spain Park game.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I thought both teams were pretty dang even d Mark.
You know, Ben Russell's got some of the best high
end talent in the state. But you know, Brock Bradley
proved why he's one of the best quarterbacks. I thought
he did a really good job commanding the offense for
Spain Park a new one to get the ball out.
You know, they do a lot of r P O
(02:36):
s uh and they and they put the decision with
Brock Bradley to either hand it off or hit a
slant or a flat or a go or whatever it is.
And both teams were able to move the ball pretty well.
I thought there was no running game for Benjamin Russell really.
The only one was, uh, you know, their quarterback Kingston
(02:56):
per Year just scrambling. I wouldn't be so ris the
bad five yards from scrimmage for a running back in
that game. So no, no, no real running game for
ben Russell. But they were able to hit their playmakers,
like Saidarian Morgan and bj bed Good and they were,
you know, eventually able to pull out a win. The
(03:17):
difference was a missed pat and you know those would
come back to bite you. So thirty five thirty four
was your final there in alex City. Big win for
Kirk and those.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Guys miss extra point lad, that's it. I gotta make them,
don't you.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
And you want to know something, both teams missed extra
points earlier in the game, but had to make two
point conversions to make it up. So I believe, I
believe there were three missed extra points total, and then
you know, at that point I just said go for
two every time.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, there you go. Who's got the best team you've seen?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Lad Well? I still think out of the teams I've
seen right now at Thompson. But the only reason I
say that, de Marcus because I have not seen Phoenix City.
They have IMG Academy this week. So the you know,
they're they're called the offenders, they might as well be
(04:12):
the Avengers. It's gonna be a tall task for a
you know, coach Nickson, those guys, but I think that
they might have a little bit better of a chance
than Hoover. And I do think they're a little bit
better than Thompson, really, I do, Yeah, I do right now.
They their wins have just been a little bit more convincing.
(04:35):
They won their out of state game against the first academy,
you know, Thompson obviously losing to Grayson by one, but
I think the margin this season is a lot closer
than other people think you know, I'm still questionable on
Thompson's offensive line a little bit. And then defensively just
you know, some of the back end guys like I think,
(04:58):
you know, Bobby Coleman junior, the Phoenix City quarterback is
going to be able to throw for some yards on
this Thompson defense if it comes down to it.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Interesting. Interesting Any small school teams that you've seen this
scratched your head that you've you know, like wow.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
But yeah, Addison right now, who are undefeated. Last week
they played against Tackleberg and picked up a big win
there there. I believe five and oh for the first
time in a long time. Bullock County is five and
oh for the first time since nineteen. That's that's coach.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
He's done a great job.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
There, absolutely absolutely, And you know Bullock County they they
really needed that. They had a big win over Tallasee
for the game winning touchdown with seven seconds last week. Man,
they look good.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
That was a good win for them. Coach does a
good job.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
There, and they're gonna end up They're gonna end up
playing a few more big ones. I know they have
south Side Selma this week, who's also undefeated from Class three.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
That's pretty good too.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Yeah, they've they've got They've got one of the top
passing quarterbacks in the state and Cold Moody. They actually
had a tight end transfer over from Hoover, believe it
or not, d Mark for the Marii Towns. He's like
six foot six and he's the easiest three a jump
ball target I've ever seen. I mean, you get this guy,
(06:31):
get the ball anywhere in his vicinity, he's gonna bring
it in. But Bullock and a Bullock in Southside could
be a good football game.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Yeah, you talked to coach Fraeman Lightny.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
I have not no, I need to give him a call.
So we will be at the Thompson Clay game, like
I mentioned, and I I gotta figure some things out.
They they beat the Stavia thirty five to three last week.
I saw that struggled a bit in the first half,
similar to the Carver Montgomery game. I guess that's seven
or three. Thompson only will a touchdown, you know, one
(07:05):
touchdown two quarters.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
They do play for for a reason, least what you say,
I do play for for a reason.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yeah, yeah, they do, they do. You know. I do
think it's kind of funny, you know, we've gotten to
the point to where we judge Thompson looking for stuff
to critique.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
You go to quarters, good call.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
I have to do that with him though. That's right, lose.
You got to look for something. You know. I'm gonna
be a little bit harder on my own.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
I know you do good with that, all right, len
