Speaker 1 (00:00):
Finn one name, two restaurants. Lad with Bama Press is live.
Good morning, Blad.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
One of the guys.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
I we doing, We're good, We're good. How are you doing? Blaid?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Ready for some football? Got a seven eight coming up?
Got the semi final games, third round for everyone else,
and only a few weeks away due marks. We're all
in Birmingham.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
There you go, Lad, busting the story last week Cherokee
County's coaches out was out left. Good job on that, Blad.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
That's right. Yeah. Jacob Kelly first round exits this year,
But the previous three years whole state title appearances and
we couldn't get the job done.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Y'all here you got me? Oh okay, I lost you.
I got you, Glad. It's good.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Jacob Kelly from Cherokee County, first round exits this year.
Maybe it's the state title three years before that. Announced
to the team he'd resigned earlier this week from Cherokee County.
Interesting to see where he goes, if he takes a
job in Alabama, or if he goes back to Georgia
where he came from. You know, we'll just have to see.
(01:11):
But yeah, no, that's that's big news.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
At A four A D Mark, no doubt about it,
all right. We got big news in the O and
the a lad and over in Phoenix City. Would he'll
take on Thompson. We got Auburn Opelika at the Duck
and Thompson and Central over at Wayne frewick Field.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
It's gonna be a big one, gonna Opelikah and Auburn
both down to their backup quarterbacks. JD. Pate had to
fill in there for Cason Myers, and I thought he
did a great job. I think Cason's dealing with some
sort of collarbone injury for Auburn, and obviously Opelikah has
(01:52):
been dealing with some quarterback stuff all year long. But
they dominate. They beat They beat Baker thirty five to nine,
and then Auburn went forty to nothing over Daphney. That
was a close game in the regular season between Auburn
and ople Aika. Obviously, you know, such a big rivalry,
(02:13):
and they'll take it to the Duck this time.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
D Mark, I know, I know. And if the third team,
the guy that was in the first game, Ophiu played
each other, the quarterback the starting now was the third
team where he wasn't even out there, So that's right.
And then it depending on if Myers is able to play,
they'll be playing another quarterback perhaps that hadn't played.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah and j so there you go. Yeah, JD. Pate
who filled in for Myers, is more of a dual
threat quarterback, you know, gives you an element of the run,
still can throw the ball really well. Auburn and Opleika, man,
they've both impressed me these playoffs. They've had some tough games.
(02:53):
Auburn had to have a rematch in the first round
against the Stavia and handle business. Seems like the offer
this has really come alive these past few weeks. And
then you look at Opelikah Man, you know, that's a
really good win over a good Hewitts football team. And
you can say the exact same thing for Baker, who
ended up being the region champions there in Region one.
(03:15):
So this is going to be a great game, and
this is for a chance to go to a state title,
something that Opal Aikah hasn't had the opportunity to do
in a long time. And then you look over at Auburn.
They've sort of been in that Central Auburn back and
forth over the past half decades, and it's going to
be an interesting game to see. And then on the
(03:35):
other side, obviously, I mean, this is the same song
and dance we've had since twenty eighteen, d Mark, It's
Thompson and at Central, and I don't expect this game
to be anything but the best. You know, I think
these were the two teams that people had anticipated to
be playing in a state title if it wasn't for
(03:56):
the bracket format change. And we'll have this game in
the same my finals. Now you know, this is this
is this is gonna be a big one.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
No doubt, no doubt. You got any You got any
picks you want to throw one out there?
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yeah, yeah, I'll give you a pick. I think I
think I'm gonna go. I think I'm gonna go with
Auburn in this one. Just for the fact that games
at home, it's it's it's so even. And I just
think that those guys with JD. Pate, whoever the quarterback
ends up being, the defense has really come along these
(04:33):
past few weeks and shutting out a good Daphne football team.
It looks like they're playing some of their best football
down the stretch. Although it will be a very close game,
and I think I'm gonna go with Thompson over Central
Phoenix City. You don't bet against coach Freeman in the playoffs,
you don't certainly not going to right here. But that
(04:54):
by that I I don't. I don't want to give
people the notion that Central is not a good football team,
because they are absolutely a great football team. I'm just
going with what I know, and that's coach Freeman.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
You know what I'm good for.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
You.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Do you pick the arbin O Flucker game?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah? Yeah, I think Auburn.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Okay, I thought I've heard you that. My head stats
are going announce that's right, and I'm missing you. So
all right going down your bracket?
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah? Absolutely So. We had our on location game where
we traveled to this past Friday. We went to Hamilton
High School watched them play Deshler. It was an excellent
game and Deshler ends up winning thirty one to thirty.
They block a pat in overtime to advance to the
next round. They'll play Aniston in which should be a
(05:44):
really good football game. But we had Thompson beat Mary G.
Montgomery fifty four to zero. Trent Seeborne five touchdowns for
passing one rushing in the first half. Phoenix City beats
fair Hope thirty four to fifteen in a really good showing.
We had Huey Town pick up a big win over
(06:05):
Russell County jumping down the sixth day. They'll play Benjamin
Russell in the quarterfinal game for a chance to move on,
and that one should be really fun. Huey Town's been
a surprise this year. They were five and five region
champions to finish off the regular season, and they've rattled
off a few in a row. Now. They'll play a
really good Benjamin Russell team who has all the talent
(06:29):
in the world. You had Huey Town. I'm sorry that
Hughey toon. You had. Homewood beat Hartzell thirty one to
twenty four. They'll match up with Klay Chalkville in the quarterfinals.
That's going to be a big game for Caleb Carson,
their starting quarterback and company. I think that Homewood will
have more than a chance to beat Klay Chalkville. That'll
(06:50):
be a big one. Mussell shoals. They defeat Parker, getting
revenge from a few years ago, seventeen to fourteen. They
move on to the semi finals as well, and then
you had five d Mark gets shut out for the
first time since nineteen ninety nine. They lose to Piedmont
Down in Class three eight thirty six to nothing. That
(07:11):
was the longest active consecutive scoring streak in the state,
going all the way back to ninety nine. Klay Chalkville
now holds that record. You had sarah Land and Spain
Park playing a really big game. Spain Park was leading
that game seventeen to fourteen at halftime. Sarah Lane comes
back and wins thirty five to thirty one. They'll play
(07:35):
Pike Road in another semi final rematch from a year ago.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
That'd be a goodie too. Fight Rose got a good
football team too.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
They do absolutely.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Got a winner.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
But yeah, do I have a winner? I think I
think it'll be sarah Lan. Yeah, so Kelly has not
skipped the beat. They lost kJ Lacy from a year ago.
They lost CD gil Fantae McWilliams. But they've done a
good job replacing those guys, having guys step in and
step up. We look at PJ. Brown in the backfield.
(08:10):
Deshaun Spencer, who is their leading receiver, made a few
huge plays in the state title game last year and
he has continued to level up his game. They've got
a good defense, but you could also say the same
for Pike Road. I just this is one of those
been there, done that situations. Saarland in this game. They've
(08:31):
won this game before. They know how to win this game,
and that's why they've been the state title representative for
six A souths for the past three years.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Interesting go to five A Fairview, Scottsborough, Moody, Briarwood, Christian Weiger,
Central Clay and Montgomery, Cathock and Williamson.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
That's right. Yeah, Fairview with a big win twenty eight
to thirteen over Jacksonville. They've got a really good running
back in Jake Harper. Over five thousand career rushing yards.
He's broke and every record, every rushing record in Fairview
High school football history, and they've absolutely ran through him
this year. Briarwood big win over Russellville. They're continuing to
(09:13):
impress me. So the five A bracket, it's turning out
a lot like I think everybody expected it to. You're
going to have a matchup between Viger and Central Clay
County in the quarterfinals. You have Montgomery Catholic and Williams
and shout out to Montgomery Catholics. Man, I think a
lot of people left them for dead. They're pactor Kirk
(09:33):
Johnson left, but they've Jonathan Chandler has done an excellent
job with that football team, with that staff, and you
know they're playing for another chance at a semi final birth.
And then you look on the north side of the brackets,
the aforementioned Fairview. They'll play a very good Scottsboro team.
They dismantled what was a one lost Saint Clair County team.
(09:55):
They win forty two to six, and you know Scottsborough,
you know they're going to run the football. That's going
to be a physical game against Fairview for a chance
at the semi finals. And then obviously Moody has absolutely
handled business. They beat Corner in the first round forty
nine to twenty one. Then they just beat Priceville sixty
(10:15):
to fourteen. They're gonna face They're going to face a
stingy Briarwood football team, but I expect Moody to come
out of that one with a victory. I'd expect Scottsboro
to win. And then on the south side of the bracket,
I'm going with Viger and William.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Yeah, that's a good pick come out of the quarterfinals
that it'll be a heck of a game. Lad bettlesup
Bumber Preps joins us. Going over all the brackets, we're
in four A now four games are good Hope and
playing view Deshler, Aniston, Jackson and ws Neil and Saint
Michael and Bullock County who's won two in a row
first time in school history.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
That's right, shout out Bullock County, out Mobile Christian. Yeah,
that's that's a great win for them. And well the
market doesn't get any easier because they got to go
face to Philip Rivers plan now with Saint Michael, that'll
be that'll be probably where the road ends for them.
But you know, it's certainly not discounting everything. Getting your
(11:14):
first playoff win in one hundred and fourteen years of
playing high school football is a huge accomplishment and to
make a quarterfinal, I think is a great step for
this Bullet County team. You look on the other side
of the South bracket with Jackson and ws Neil, Jackson
probably has their had their toughest game of the playoffs
last week. What we anticipate to be the toughest until
(11:38):
Saint Michael in the semi final, assuming they beat ws Neil.
It was the Handley game. I think everybody knows how
physical Handley is. We you know, we we heard it
in the iHeart Radio media days d Mark they said,
they're not They're not wanting to be anything different. They
want to be a team that's fast, that's physical, that's
(11:58):
going to hit you in the mouth. And they almost
had Jackson though. That was a close game for a while.
So major props to them and that football team is
a is a good effort for Hanley. But I think
everybody knows, you know, what we're expecting out of Jackson
right now.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
They're good.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
They're good, No, they are, they are good. Xavier Crowell,
the Alabama commit running back, had fourteen carries for three
hundred and fifty yards and four touchdowns steam marks. So
when you got a guy like that, man it is
it makes it makes the play college job.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
A lot here, Yeah, it does. Let's go to Class three, lad,
I wish you go through that.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Yeah, absolutely so. South Side Selma will face Glenwood. South
Side beat Scottage Hill Christian thirty nine to twenty two.
Glen Wood beat Trinity forty to seven, Montgomery Academy blanks
Leascot thirty eight to nothing, while Bayside beats Randolph County
forty seven to seven. M A and Bayside will match
(13:02):
up for a chance at the semi final. Mars Hill
ends up rowing Winfield forty two to six. Geraldine beats
Westbrook Christian thirty one to fifteen. That's a great win
for Geraldine. Westbrook was a good football team this year
with Steve Smith. As we mentioned, Piedmont ends up blanking
five for the first time since nineteen ninety nine. Fife
(13:24):
was close to having that streak broken last year against
Acousta Christian, but ended up getting a safety in that game.
Finally happens here and then Gordo beats Culvert County forty
nine to twenty nine. So Piedmont, Gordo, expect Piedmont and
that one. Mars Hill, Geraldine, we expect mars Hill in
that one, and we expect we expect Southside Selma over
(13:49):
glen Wood, and as we mentioned, I think that Bay
Side will have a good chance against Montgomery Academy, but
that'll be a close game. Ma's got a lot of
talent on that football team, so we'll have to see
how that one plays out there.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
You go bled ballasup Bama Preps going over these ball
games for us. We are going now to Class two A.
We got two more to go through in the semifinals quarterfinals,
I should say for one through six A. Southeastern pigska
be who's the Christian under rush prost that's was Academy
lou Verne Lynette and from Providence Christian in Real Town.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
That's right, yeah, And I want to start on the
South bracket. Providence Christians had a great run so far.
They get past region champions Clark County in the first
round seventeen to fourteen, and then they have to play
a very good Loachapoka team and they end up beating
them seventeen to fourteen as well. They'll play Real Town
(14:46):
in the third round, who's coming off a good win
over Cottonwood. And then you've got Lavernon Lynette, which should
be a great quarterfinal matchup. Both of these teams have
been excellent all throughout the season and that will be
a rate clash. Then you have Southeastern at home versus PISGA.
PISGA picked up a big win over Vincent forty four
(15:08):
to thirty three. And the same can be said for Southeastern.
They played a really good Red Bay football team ended
up winning that one twenty eight to twenty one. Obviously,
we know about Rush and Cousta. They are continuing to
handle business. They'll face Tuscaloosa Academy in the third round
and we expect Rush and those guys to keep rolling
(15:29):
d Mark as we expect them to make the semi final.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Get to Birmingham. What I wanted to do?
Speaker 2 (15:37):
You want to get to Birmingham?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Yeah, get Bingham.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Well, he will have a great chance. It's crazy to
think about, you know, from where we were a few
years ago with Rush and him being at pell City
and being up in six eight. Now he's got a
you know, a real legitimate fighting chance to uh to
represent the two way North in Birmingham.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
He does He does that, There's no doubt about it.
All Right, let's go over that last one.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Absolutely. Yeah, So Southern Choctaw in Maplesville, Southern Chalktaw gets
a big win over University Charter, who's a surprise team
this year. University Charter, a school that's only four years old,
has continued to build up their football program and that
group of seniors. Definitely nothing that's caught that, but Southern
(16:26):
Chalktaw gets it done. As we know. Maplesville, who are
the representatives out of the South for the state title
game last year, just absolutely keep on rolling. And we
can say the same thing for Mackenzie and Leroy, which
should be a marquee one a matchup be marked. That's
going to be a fun game to keep our eyes on.
Out of the North, you've got Addison who beat Barry
(16:48):
Fayette thirty nine to six, and then you've gotten mary
On Marion County who ends up getting a big win
over Appalachian twenty eight to thirteen. And High Hollis for
Marion County picks up three interceptions, two hundred and thirteen
total yards and two touchdowns. So shout out to Ty
(17:08):
Hollis and those guys at Marion County. They'll have a
big game versus Addison coming up. And you've got the
bad boys of Wadley Man they continue to keep doing it.
Jacques Wilkes and that offense. The Texas A and M
commit linebacker has helped Wadley been has helped Widley be
an absolute Force. They beat Meek fifty two to six,
(17:32):
and then Hubbertville and their rematch, the regular season rematch
versus Hubbertville. Hubberville ends up beating Hackleberg forty two to
six to move on to the quarterfinals as well.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Job well done, lad. We're you heading Friday, man, I
don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
I know you will probably be at.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
The Ducks now, you know better, nat you know where
I'm will be. Won't be at that duck, That's right.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
We'll head out to Garrett Harrison. Okay, for the second
time in three weeks. We were down there for the
Auburn Hoover.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Like your little there.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Okay, I think we uh yeah, we're feeling at home
right now with Garrett airon.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Yeah, you just ignore me over here to Duck. I'll
be fine.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
But you know I'll see you.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
I know, I know. I'll need some updates see you

Speaker 2 (18:25):
