Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the forecast for the area and the week time
to go to the Hamilton's outline. Hamilton's has two locations
to serve you on Odal Tree and Magnolia. Hamilton's one name,
two locations. Ben Thomas worksrail dot Com. He's our bud
cause every Monday telling us what's going on in high
school sports, and he's live. Good morning, Ben.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I think you guys already know what's going on in
high school sports. You just like to have me to
fill in time.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
You're inside, they're inside of hill. We g all together.
That's what we do.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, Yeah, everything's going good. How much you got?
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Good? Good, good, good, good, good good good. Got a
beautiful morning here. I bet it's pretty pretty in South Alibuama,
isn't it.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
It's nice down here? You know, I can't. You know,
it's hard to believe. It was thirty degrees last week
at this time. I know it's probably gonna be seventy
or eighty today. That's all good. What's y'all know? Good?
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Not much? We got to open like an Auburn Friday night.
Doesn't get any bigger than that for our towns.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Man, I was just looking at that. I think they
played in this I think they played one.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Hundred previous times, one hundred and one Friday, that's right, and.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
This is just the second time in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
I believe that's correct. That is correct.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
That's part of that's part of believe.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Isn't it? So isn't it? And the last time was
opak and one at Auburn on Black Friday to get
to go play Carver in the semifinals.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
There you go. Yeah, that's a big one. I mean
you got well, you got both both seven A semifinals
over that way with Tom Phoenix City. You know, two
teams that have played in the last two seven eight
title games. That's gonna be really interesting. Auburn came down
here and uh put it on Uh put it on Daphne,
even with a backup quarterback. You know, Casey Myers got
(01:43):
hurt second series of the game, didn't play the rest
of the game, and J. D. Pate came in there
and did enough to win the game. I think Daphney
fumbled about four or five times and really just yeah,
it was got and they had a lot of penalties
and Auburn just Auburn was up thirty to nothing at
the half and just cruised from there, and then I
(02:04):
was a little bit surprised. Yeah, I thought Baker would
maybe have a chance to go and beat Oplaka, but
op like a credit to coach Moore's team got it
down there beat then what thirty five to nine or
whatever it was. I think a kick of three field
goals not going to help you in the in the
state quarterfinals, usually in the field goals, So that'll be
(02:26):
it should be interesting. I don't know what the status
of the case and Myers is. You know, he's walking
around with a sling on the shoulder in the in
the second half of the game, so probably not overly optimistic.
So that'll that'll be interesting. If what Auburn wins seventeen
to ten, right the third, third week of the third
week of the season.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
So that'll be boy, that'll be a big, big time
atmosphere there and at.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Auburn, Oh, it will be in Oplac is playing a
different quarterback than they played since they play they're now
at the original store or the season there at their
third team quarterback who is now starting, So lots of
dynamic changes in this game from the first time. If
he don't play if that first quarterback doesn't play.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah, so we'll have we'll have we'll have one team
that'll be familiar on the in the seven eight Championship,
either Thompson or Phoenix cis have a relatively new team
of course, always been there pretty recently.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
That it's been a while for the right sixteen.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
That'll be uh, that'll be a good, good match up.
Thompson really impressive. Uh. I was really surprised they handled
Mary gim. I mean not surprised they beat Marriy G Montgomery,
but it wasn't even a game. Overwhelmed him. I was
forty one nothing at the half and I don't even
think Trent Seborn played in the second half. So Mark
Freeman's bunch looks like they're tuning up at the right time.
(03:45):
And that's that. That's gonna be a ward. Phoenix City.
Patrick Nickson was not happy with the way his team
played against fair Hope, but they won by you know,
three touchdowns and had it. You know, they were up
twenty seven to fifteen much of the much of the game.
I had plenty of the way it started off. Fair
Hopes started quickly. They've got the ball, scored a touchdown,
went for two and got two. They're up eight to
(04:07):
nothing and then Tim Carr tried to go for an
on sidekick.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Dang, but he was.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Really being aggressive. But the problem was Central Phoenix City
got it, ran back for a touchdown. I was running
this eight to seven and uh that he kind of
took over from there. So it should be should be
fun games up there up to y'allswe.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
He knew he couldn't play with him head up probably
and had to I had to do.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yeah, I think so, I think so. And it was
like I said it was. It was the closest of
the four.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Thirty to fifteen, wasn't it?
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Well, thirty four to fifteen?
Speaker 1 (04:41):
I think thirty four?
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Okay, Central score pretty late for that last touchdown. It
was twenty seven to fifteen most of the second half,
so you know, that's still within striking distance. And I
thought that might be the most lock outed of the
four games, but they were. They were able to hang
in there. So credit Tim Carters bunch for that. But
you know, in the end, here we are, you know,
(05:02):
with Austin Central, Penny Sessions. You know, if if it
was still the old bracket, we will probably be having
those two in the in the championship game. Again, I
know it's not so.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
So there we are here, we are. Something's got to
give Class six the Benjamin Russell Huey Town, Clay Chapel, Holmwood,
Muscle Shows, Mountain Book, Pipe Road, Sarah Land.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, I mean impressed with Muscle Shoals. Their defense is legit.
I mean help Parker to all those athletes to fourteen points.
Won that game seventeen to fourteen. So one thing we'll know,
we will definitely have a new champion because Parker was
a champion last They're going to Muscle Show's going to
Mount Brook. Mount Brook's playing better than they were early
in the season. But just things like Muscle Shows defensively
(05:49):
is going to be tough to score on. A really
good game down here between Sara Lane and Spain Park
last week, Spain Park had a chance it was back
in the fourth there great show between Brock Bradley, the
Clemson commit for Spain Park and Jamison Roberts, the junior
quarterback for Sarah Land who's been fantastic, and Sara Land
(06:11):
was able to score eight come come away with a
thirty five thirty one wins. So they've now won forty
straight home games. Sarah Land has and now, but they're
not at home this week. They got to go to
Pike Road, which is a familiar opponent for him Semple.
I think they've probably played every year of their run
here recently, and Pike Roads played well. They beat Bessemer City,
(06:31):
but sair Land it would be the favorite in that
game on the road and they're trying to get to
their four straight six A title game. He had a
good match up between Homewood and klay Chalkbell and the
other one Homewood's played has played really well. Beat Hartzel
on Friday and then Benjamin Russell. They went over Theodore.
(06:51):
Theodore had the ball there. Benjamin Russell won twenty one
to fourteenth. Theodore had a chance to go in. Steve
Mass told me if they had scored a touch down,
they were going to go for two, but they did
not score. Benjamin Russell held them on fourth down inside
the ten and they win that game and they get
Huey Town coming in there. So four four pretty good
quarterfinal matchups. You know, clay Chalk will maybe the best.
(07:17):
Clay Chalk will home with maybe the most competitive We'll
we'll have to see.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Hmmm, and I agree with you on that. All right, well,
Ben Thomas with us AL dot Com. Let's go to
five A Moody Briarwood, scottsbro at Fairview Buyger hosting Central
Clay and Williamson at Kathock of Montgomery.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah too, some really good games. Their Moody's looking strong.
I mean, they just they just took care of business
at Price Bawl. I think they scored sixty on Price Bowl,
so they're you know, it seems like Jay Gannis's team
they lost in the runner they finished running up last year.
It seems like they're destined to kind of get back
on that half of the bracket on the north side,
and then four good teams left on the south side.
(08:01):
It's gonna be really interesting. You got, like you said,
you got Williamson, which is the number one team. They're undefeated.
It's quared a bunch of points, they don't allow a
bunch of points. And then there's Montgomery Catholic, the reigning champ.
A lot of things have changed for them, but here
they are in the quarterfinals again and Williamson has got
to go up there. Uh. And then in the other one,
Viger beat North Side, which had been undefeated last week,
(08:24):
and they get to host Central Clay County, which you know, Dame.
That's a rematch of a state championship game from a
few years back that Central Clay County won in a
close game. Danny Horn still allive, the all time all
time wins leader. I meant his teams still alive, not
not him themselves, still alive. But there, that should be
a good game. Viger'll probably have a tough time coming
(08:44):
down to Viger and winning that game, but two two
good games there, and it could lead to a Viger
Williamson rematch in the semi finals. If both those teams win.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
M that would be interesting in it, wouldn't it be?
I mean to be fun.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
I mean that game would be played at Ladd I'm
sure crowd wise, Uh, this game will be played at
Viger's new stadium at at Viger. But if they get
a Viger willis And rematch, that's gonna be a lad
I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Okay, you think they can happen.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Fairview scottsburgs the other.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Matchup, Yeah, good point, and then Moody's a big point
over Briarwood, so they think They're going to take care
of business.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
There, and we expected for the most part of the semifinals.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Great story, uh in for a Bullock County making history,
first time they've ever gone, Isn't that awesome? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Played, they played football one hundred years and never won
a playoff game, and now they won too. In fact,
they've only been in the playoffs like twice. It's a
critical Yeah, really crazy, but yeah, they beat mob Will
christ I was really surprised by that game. Mobile Christian
has a good running back Jason Todd, and I thought
they would win that game. Bullock County shut them out
and they advanced. They got to come down here to
(09:58):
play Saint Michael, which is undefeated obviously this season they've
ever had. They're twelve and oh, you would expect Saint
Michael win that game. But gosh, I don't know what.
Now you get that Bullock County momentum. Like you said,
it's a great story. Jeremy Vin has got a great
job there, so we'll see. I'm gonna I'm planning to
(10:19):
be at that game, so I'm really interested to, you know,
to talk to coach Vines and see if they can
kind of interrupt the Saint Michael. Magic think St. Michael's
got to avoid looking ahead. I mean, I know everybody's
thought that that first Jackson game that those two were
gonna play in the semifinals again like they did last year.
And they might do it, but they can't. They can't
overlook somebody who's got a lot of momentum, which is
(10:39):
Bullock County. You know, they they're in that mindset that
they think they can win. Now we don't know better,
you know, no, And Saint Michael, you know, for them,
they're gonna be at home this week and next week
if they win, so it's big for them to keep
it up. And then, of course on the other side,
you got Jackson and ws NEIL two Region one teams.
(10:59):
Jackson one the first time they played, thirty to seven.
I think, I just you're just not gonna as long
as Jackson, as long as their their college commits, you know,
do what the coaches say. I don't know that anybody's
gonna beat him. I mean, if they keep handing it
to E. J. Crowell, you can't tackle that guy. I mean,
I think he had three hundred and fifty yards and
four touchdowns last week against Hanley. You know that was
(11:24):
a pretty close game. It was twenty eight twenty one,
but about eight minutes left and Croyle broke off about
eighty yard touchdown run. You know, they go on to
win forty two twenty eight. So if it gets to
be Saint Michael and Jackson again, that's gonna be an
offensive showdown. I would think if the weather's good, you know,
barring his brain or whatever, because Saint Michael knows that
(11:47):
they're gonna have to score to keep up. I mean,
you just can't tack crow tackle Crowell and that may
be you know, if we get to that game, and
again we gotta, we gotta. They're gonna win these two games. First,
if we get to that game, that could be a
showdown for the Mister Football Award. Gun of Rivers and E. J.
Crowell or are probably two of the top candidates, uh
in that one. And then the North have Anniston kind of
(12:09):
quietly undefeated. Rico Jackson was a coach down here at Murphy.
It's done a great job at Anniston. They get Deshler,
got to go to Desler perennial power. That should be
a good game. And then good Hope hosting plain View.
Dy'll prow It just keeps getting it done. At Plainview,
so eight really good teams there.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Yeap, we got two three more passifications and then Public
School three three A Bayside Academy, Montgomery Academy. The games
at Bayside, mars Hill hosts Geraldine, Piedmont host Gordo, and
sell On the south Side host Glenwood.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Uh. Well, I was a little bit surprised that south
Side Selma just keeps winning them.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
They had done it was yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
It was a two game for a while and they
pull away win that one, thirty nine, twenty two. Cole
Moody just keeps putting up big numbers. Uh. I think
their receiver, I think I saw where he passd the
Riley Pinto's record for all time receiving yards in the season.
So they a lot of offensive firepower there. See how
(13:12):
they do against glenn Wood. Base Side Academy is really
quietly been dominant. They lost their opener to Saint Michael
and has won every game since. And they're good defensively.
They you know, the big story was, you know, they
went to Randolph County. Randolph County's running back Bo Winston
ran for four hundred and forty nine yards the first
week of the season, he ran for ten yards on
(13:33):
twelve carries. This week again ten yards on twelve carries
against against base Ads. So they're good defensively, they're they've
been good offensively and they look at their their numbers
are if you look go search their numbers, they're incredible
what they've done offensively and defensively. And they got Montgomery
Academy's traditional team. They big shut out win.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Over for the big one, big one.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
And then you know, on the other side, you got
you know, a couple of you know a lot of
perennial powers. You got Peede Mint's hosting Gordo, and then
you've got mars Hill, who I think is at number
one all year reigning chance hosting Geraldine. So you're probably
looking at a pe Mint marsh Hill semi final, which
would be fantastic.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
So then we got some good matchups coming up this week.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah. Two A Class two we're going over with the
parings with Ben Thomas with al dot Com. Class two
A Tuscus Academy UH travels to cusa Christian Rush pros
Roland Louverne hosts Lynette Picks that goes to Southeastern and
real Town goes to Providence, Christian.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Did you say Laverne.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Lou Verne host Lynnette.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yeah, Laverne is Uh, LaVerne's got it going this year.
They're they're having their best year they've had in a
long long time, and that's got a tough challenge going there. Cusa,
you know, cousin Tuscalos Academy played I think in Week
ten and CUSA beat them the handily and the game
that Cusa, so I would expect the same thing to happen.
I think russiall Be was in two wins of another
(15:06):
state championship team. Market Uh. I don't know a ton
about Southeastern. They're hosting Pisga, and then you've got you know,
real Town, which always seems to be in the mix,
going to Providence. Christian, So Laverne looks like the favorite,
you know, I would say Cusa is probably still the favorite,
even though Laverne too.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
And that's pretty good being and that pretty good. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
I think they gotta think they got to upset potential there.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Demon I don't know they can. They pretty they played
good football, they hadn't lost the two games, and LaVerne's
mighty powerful though I know it's gonna take a monumental effort.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
I still can't get used to a coach story not being.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
I know, I know only now he's not the coach
our Jays coach.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Yeah, they do a good job. They really do. All right,
let's go to one A uh Madison Marion County, Maplesville
hosts Southern Shark, Tall McKenzie hosts Leroy, and widely host Hubberville.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Well, it looks like to me we're gonna have a widely.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
LeRoy's I think what I think.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Although mackenzie's undefeated, you know, and they they get to
host Leroy, so they'll get they'll get their chance to
be on the big stage. They got Maplesville, who's always
there at this time of the year, right, I mean,
they came down and beat mc and toide than Truck
Dolls had a good year, but they got to go
to Maplesville. I just think widely, you know, they haven't
really been tested all year, so I just think that
(16:39):
they're gonna you know, they win one of the first
game fifty six to eight over South Lamar then they
beat me fifty two to six. I mean, they're just
they're just so physical and then with Jaques Wilk running
the ball, I mean he looks like a Andre of
the Giant running against kindergarteners. So I just think somebody's
gonna have somebody's gonna have to play a perfect game
and get a lot of hell to beat widely.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Yeah, I agree. I agree. Any of those other games,
Maplesville should take care of Chalk Tall Leed Royal Mackenzie,
you think, and then Marion County and Addison probably Addison.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Yeah, I don't know a whole lot of that. I
mean it's that Marion County. Yeah, I don't know a
ton about those two teams. So we'll see. But again,
whoever the winner is and I have to play widely, Yeah,
you know they'll be happy.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
For a week, all right, before we go three ai
SA championship games this week. Our local team, Chambers Academy's
got Lowndes in the three A game. They've already beaten
Lowndes earlier. We think Chambers Academy all.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
The way, Ben, Yeah, I would agree. I mean, well,
you know, beat them, you beat them once, it's hard
to it's hard to figure out a way to come back,
you know, and beat them again. So I like Chambers
there and then you got you know, the big, big
upset and they I say last week was so then
talked to South South Tall County beat the Christian who's
(17:58):
been number one all year. Yeah, eat the South County
in double A.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
And that Stacey Lucors team southto Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Stacey he won it last year yep. And one what
five titles at Sweetwater Yeah or whatever it is. I mean,
he just he just gets and gets them playing at
the right time. So and then of course you got
the eighth Man game and kicking. All those games are
gonna be Thursday at the Crampton Bowl, so it should
be a good day of good day of football there
for the head.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
And I'm sure y'all will be covering that game, right those.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Games, Yeah, we're gonna where some gal is going to
cover all those games for photos and we'll have I'm
trying to figure out the coverage it I like to get.
I'd like to get something on every single game this
week if we can, but it's hard to get spaced
out some of these places.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Yeah, I know it is, I know it is. We'll
being good job on your Hall of Famers, we saw
the list. Good job on that job well done.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah, I mean you've been in that meeting before. Oh yeah,
I think sixty sixty Dominie seems to be seems to
be always kind of seems to be always around that number.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
And you know, some good people, all of them, all
of them more worthy, right, I mean, absolutely don't get
nominated to be in the hall you're not.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Yeah, that's a tough part of being is picking through them.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yeah. But you know, some some people that I was
supporting didn't make it this time, but hobefullly they'll make
it the next time. But that's a good class. Ricky
Austin from Spring Garden, who's gosh, won so many girls
basketball and volleyball titles, been in Spring Garden for thirty
years I think, and just obviously the dad of Ace
Austin bringing this basketball and then Larry strained from Hanley
(19:43):
and you know, one state championship, two state championships at
Hanley and football, also coached basketball at Woodland. Kim Keel,
your friend e Kim, You'll know you're proud to see
her getting I am.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
She's a good lady. So she was there too, I know,
thought about that. That was odd that she leaves the room.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Uh she left the room when we were talking to
her talking about her. Yeah, uh, but she it was
kind of a slammed up for her. She's had an
unbelievable career and her packet was about as big as anybody.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
I was going to say. I could only imagine what.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
She had done. I didn't realize she had done everything
she has done. But congratulations to her. A very nice lady.
And yeah she's vice.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
President, future president. That's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
So anyway, congratulations to all those people. I'm always been
honored to be on the committee, even though it's a
tough you know, it's kind of a tough GigE, like
I said, and they're on it down because you've got
a lot of people who could have gotten now. So
congratulations to those twelve.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
There you go, well being, Thank you for what you do, buddy,
Thanks for being on the mark, and we look forward
to talking to you next week. We'll be in touch.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Okay, all right, that's good. Hit him straight, hit him right, Jess,
see you being
