Speaker 1 (01:18):
Chamber chat. Allie rapt is in the house, the president
CEO of the OPL like a chamber of commerce. Good morning, Allie,
good morning.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
How are you today? Girls? Good to see you, Good
to see you. I mean, time is just ticking away.
Here we are, third week in November.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Allie, I gotta tell you something. I was leaving church
last night and I was like, God, why in the
tree lit up? Up?

Speaker 3 (01:38):
We got away? I know, you know, it was so funny.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Last night Todd and I went and saw the Night
with Mark Hayes and a Christmas Truth at East Alham
Arts at the Opaka and it was amazing night.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
It was really great.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
That's the new A new play by I guess a
short play by Jim Harris and Mark Hayes is a
very famous like here, yeah, the Harris trio.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Those boys.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Jim is He's who wrote that We'll Meet Again about
the Stern family and well this was his sharing the
story of the Christmas tresth that happened in nineteen fourteen
during World War One. But it was all kind of
positioned as a night with Mark Hayes, who was the
conductor and also a pianist and composer, and I mean,

(02:25):
he's just he's a really big deal. And he spent
yesterday in Obelika and the show was last night. But
Todd and I were driving downtown for the after party
at the museum and Tod was like, oh, let's go
see the tree and I was like, yeah, let's and
he's like, oh, it's not let up yet, and I
was like time.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Snow, Bolikah, hello, you helped me like the SERI. But
I mean, you gotta.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
I gotta give major, major, major kudos to the City
of Opelika and all those departments from what I you know,
I saw those Christmas elves out there last week, from
ESG to Lee Krayley to Priscilla Blight that keep up
like a beautiful rosannam Aguinnis, and just the entire crew
at Public Works, oh Black of Power Services, every last
one of them.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
They put that tree up so fast, like I've.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
Never seen anything like it. You blinked and it was
like it was up. And so you know, if you
have not driven around after dark in downtown, please go
do it.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
It is magical. The lights are up.

Speaker 5 (03:26):
You know, one of my favorite views is driving over
Tenth Street Bridge, like just I love it so but yeah,
we're very excited SNOWBLI like a Friday, December fifth, we
have a full parade.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
It is jam packed. We've got a lot of floats,
which we're very excited about.

Speaker 5 (03:41):
It is a Whoville theme, so we expect to see
a lot of fun. Cindy lu Who's and Martha May
May Blue Who's and you know the gridge.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
I'm sure we'll have plenty of those.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
But parade we'll start on Friday, December fifth at five
thirty pm.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
It'll wind through downtown.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
As the parade ends in Courthouse Square, we encourage everybody
to hang out. There'll be Christmas music, lots of photo
op opportunities, snow will be falling, and then at seven
thirty will be the tree lighting. And then after that
the snow will continue to fall and music will continue
to play. They'll be food trucks and the event will
end at nine pm, so you'll be able to get

(04:19):
photos of Santa all of that. But I am going
to share more details about the shuttle because you know,
we had twenty thousand people last year and so we
don't have twenty thousand parking spots, especially when a lot
of those side streets are taken for the parade. And
so we have been working with both Southern Union and
Lee Russell Council of Governments, and we have five shuttle

(04:41):
buses that will be running continuously from Southern Union's campus.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
I think it's a lot by too.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
They'll be dropping off at the at city Hall and
so it will just be a continuous path from Southern
Union City Hall, City Hall, Southern Union.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
And so we will have.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
I think the shuttle will run from four thirty until
or maybe three thirty until nine thirty. So we're trying
to just give people even more time to get downtown.
But we really are going to encourage people to park
at Southern Union and come over because okay, parking can
get Craig Ray.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
That's a good that's a good thing. Bus is starting
starting it what.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
Three I think three thirty, But yeah, we last year
we had two vans. So first year we had a
bus and then we didn't have enough people that knew
about it to use it, so then they were like, oh,
we'll go down to vans. Well, then last year we
did such a better job communicating it. We had a
long line of people, if not a van or buses.
So yes, we have we have rectified, we have learned.

(05:41):
We are going to have five buses rolling continuously.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
There you go, I like that, Well, that'll be a
good event.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
So what we got it was twenty thousand last year,
twenty thousand.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
I mean the whole the eighth Street was just packed.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Packed, packed.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
I mean the parade is packed, will be you know,
we will be live. Well, we were going to be
having everyone in the parade play ninety six point seven
during the whole parade, because Van is kind enough to
go commercial free during the parade so that we can
have festive Christmas music playing over all the speakers and
all the cars. So we expect it to be even

(06:16):
more festive this year. We're really leaning into quality over quantity,
and we want to make sure that you've got something
beautiful to see, that the music is up and bright
and exciting, and then of course once you get to
Courthouse Square, it's going to be going to be popping.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
We're excited, we are too glad to have it. What
else we got going alle.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
Well this week we're excited. Tomorrow is the Mid South groundbreaking.
So I don't know if you have seen right there
next to us, but yeah, they that has been a
long time coming. Mid South Bank has been trying and
trying trying to find an open like a location. They
have finally found it. It's right there on the corner
next to Bubba's Medicine shop. They've been moving some dirt

(06:54):
around and the groundbreaking is tomorrow, so tomorrow at three pm.
I'm very excited about that. Also, tomorrow I am going
to Birmingham for the Business Council of Alabama and Alabama
Chambers annual meeting, and both Stone Martin Builders and Stints
and Breads are up for Business of the Year in

(07:15):
the whole state of Alabama. So hopefully we'll be bringing
some hardware home tomorrow afternoon. But very excited and proud
of those businesses to call open like a home and
do such an incredible job. And then Thursday, we have
a lunch and learn that is being hosted.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
By the Guide Resource Group.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
The Guide Resource Group is a kind of partnership entity
between the Opalhika Chamber, the Auburn Chamber, the Auburn City
of Auburn, the City of Opelika, the Auburn University New
Venture Accelerator, the SBbc.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
It's a group of people who really believe in.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
Helping equip entrepreneurs with more success with the skills that
they need. And so this is a lunch and learn
that's happening on Thursday at eleven am, and it is
all about finishing strong but starting strong, and it's about
taxes and how to kind of set yourself up for
the new year for success.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
And then we've got a business after.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
Hours at Prouit Pest Control at four pm on Thursday
the twentieth as well.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
And then Friday is a jam packed day.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
We've got connected over coffee at eight am, new member
orientation at nine thirty and then the final food truck
Friday of the year is on Friday night, the twenty first, unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Then we go into Thanksgiving next week.

Speaker 5 (08:24):
Then it's Thanksgiving. We are not having any events that
next week.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
I will not be working. I look forward to taking
you off Monday break.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
That's right, I will be off Monday, and so we're
looking forward. We hope everyone has a wonderful time with
their families. And then then it's snowpe like a week
and we're here, We're ready to go.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
That's right, that'll be the fifth all right, Allie's everybody
getting the family.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Everything is great.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Lady Liberty is getting better.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
She is awesome.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
She spent the weekend at Spa Deel and just got
pampered and played her to her little hearts content. I
have to tell you, ever since we started taking her,
you know, we went to Maringo Creek for obedience training,
which was incredible. But now that we've started taking her
to doggy daycare during the day, I take her a
couple of days a week to spaw Deel.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
That girl is so exhausted. But she's also like.

Speaker 5 (09:14):
I'm chopped liver when we walk in those doors, like
she wants nothing to do with me.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
It's like a It's like a kid really excited to
go to school. That is what she is.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
When we pull in that parking lot, she's like, Okay,
let's go. I don't care who you are, mom, drop
me off.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Let's go. And so big shout out.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
To spawdel one of our proud members that takes great
care of my pet.
