Speaker 1 (00:00):
We go to the Hamilton's Hotline, Hamilton's first two locations
to serve you on Magnolia and Oval Tree, Hamilton's proud
sponsors of our hotline. We're going to o Black High
School to bring in the head coach Brian Moore. Good morning, coach.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
More, Good morning d Mark. Finally game week.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Game week? Man? You fired up, coach.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah, we're we're about to kick it off here in
about an hour, so yeah, I'm pumped.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I believe I saw some cars at the athletic building
yesterday afternoon when I eased by their head in the church.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, they were there till pretty late. It was a
good day. It was good to get back and you know,
get that first first prep meeting. It's a lot of fun,
you know, and kind of a different energy level, you
know for the kids and I would say coaches too,
you know, just to have something to look forward to
this Friday.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
All right, take me back to the last Friday coach
meet the Bulldogs four thirty to late night.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Out. Did that go great? Great event? You know that
we kind of thought the weather, you know, we had
some issues there about three but thankfully, you know, with
with the turf and everything, it's dried up pretty quickly,
and so you know, it was it was, it was
a good day. We gotably three hundred or so kids
are recognized. We not only recognize our football players, but

(01:14):
cheer and dance and uh, volleyball and swim across country.
Just a lot of a lot of kids being recognized
for all their hard work.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Good deal, and everybody gets scrimmaged. What'd you've a look like, coach, Yeah,
till much.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, you know, it's I always say it's sort of
a feel good scrimmage. You know, the nuts and bolts
of the week before. You know, still got some good
work and good film. But it's really a you know,
that becomes a run through, you know, for for everyone,
you know, from your you know, gate workers. You know
it's free of charge, but we're going ahead and you know,

(01:49):
go through the whole thing. You know, officials, we're there
and that's good to see to get some penalties and
things like that, and you know, think that you can
clean up, you hope, you know, before game one or
really in the state of Alabama, you know, that becomes
our way of getting ready. You know, it's not a
lot of you know, because we do spring you know,
we can't really play a jamboree. So our first game,
unlike you know, the State of Georgia, our first game

(02:11):
is the real first look. And so for us, the
scrimmage is important. Sideline management, our coaches, you know, our
communication headset stuff, our iPads and TVs on the sideline
and all the technology that goes with it. Because see Mark,
I know you know this well through radio and everything.
You know, you inevitably something you know is you're going
to have to fix. And so you know, that's another

(02:34):
part of it. So it's not only for the kids,
you know, it's for our staff and for our ball
boys and everybody involved. So but it was a good night,
you know. It's we kind of played well. Obviously we
played each other, but we played different levels, so you know,
there were times where the seventh grade was compete against
the eighth and eight versus ninth and that sort of thing.
So again we gave some of our lower levels to

(02:57):
opportunity to play up a little bit and kind of
see how prepared those guys were. So it was a
good night. We stayed healthy and again got to see
the operation of the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Good was it a good crowd.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
I heard it was oh, very good. You know last
year I didn't I didn't know what to expect in
year one and we didn't have concessions and so it
was about ninety eight degrees last year, and so you know,
we made that adjustment and ran the whole thing and uh, again,
it was a really good crowd. I would guess a
couple of thousand to see a scrimmage. But that's the
kind of people we have in opal our kids.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
That's right, Benjamin Russell, Wildcats this weekend, coach, all right,
before we go into that, I know we'll talk Friday
if we can give me a little rundown on your team.
Who's weigh and where kind of position wise if you
don't mind, coch.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Yeah, we you know, we offensively have more coming back.
You know, that's obviously something that you know we've talked
a lot about. But when we you know, our defensive
guys came along Friday, I thought played played pretty well.
Uh and so you know this team probably top end
is not as talented, but there are more capable bodies

(04:05):
and so you know, obviously it starts with Kobe Key,
our quarterback, and he's you know, going to be a
junior and and had a really good off season in summer.
And we've got three four running backs that we feel
pretty good about, guys that have had some varsity experience,
so we're excited about them. And you know, Jordan Waits

(04:25):
is back, like Johnson j Johnson. So we've got some
guys that can carry it. And then it's going to
be about our front, you know, our offensive line and
sort of where they are, and I think that's come
along well. Also, how many how.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Many guys overall, coach, do you think you'll play on offense?

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Shoot? I would I would guess twenty. You know, that
was always kind of the goal, you know, for us,
was to get to twenty on each side so we
could rotate some pieces, even offensive lineman. Like last year
we played eight offensive linemen and so that's a little
bit uncommon. And but you know, we've got some guys
that we know, you know, get fatigued early, and so

(05:06):
we have to have a plan for that same thing. Defensively,
you know, we'd like to be too deep, but usually
it's more like, all right, we've got three you know,
interior d linemen for two spots, you know, and so
we'll kind of rotate those guys through and then you
hope as a season wearson, some of those softmores can
come in and you know play a play a bigger role,
you know, as they grow through the season as well.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yeah, Brian Moore with us, we're talking op like a football.
They open up against benjam Russell Friday night. Jeffrey'll want
to chime in, Please do as we as we go
if you got any questions. I just know you're excited
about getting started in your second season coach. And we
had a yeah, I mean night last Thursday night with
a quarterback club kickoff.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
For sure. Yeah, the you know, being being in here
two is obviously you know, your further ahead. I mean
that was a lot of the you know, conversation yesterday
with our staff was you know, we're a little bit
less experience than we were a year ago as far
as the kids are concerned, but our coaching staff, like
all of our coaches, returned. She added some two pieces

(06:08):
with our staff as well. So like yesterday's meetings really
from I usually get and go to early service for
church and I get into office about ten and we
start meetings at eleven with some of us and then
kind of layer those meetings throughout the day. The kids
come in at three, but really from about eleven o'clock
all the way through I don't know, ten last night,

(06:30):
and then I went home to work some more. But
you know that those were meetings one after another, and
it was cool to see, you know, our guys knew
what to expect, both our players and our coaches, and
so our efficiency was obviously better as we went throughout
the day. So it was exciting, you know, to see
the guys and you know, like I said, see Mark
to you, you know, the energy was was really good yesterday.

(06:52):
And you know again it's it's you know, you you
obviously are focused, you know, throughout summer and all that
kind of stuff. But the kids know, I mean, you know,
you obviously want them to have the same you know,
excitement enthusiasm as they come in, you know in June,
but it's hard to do. But when they know, you know,
in in four days, you know we're gonna play a
ball game in front of eight thousand people, it's just

(07:12):
a different deal. So yeah, it's been good. It's nice
to have your two and to sort of, you know
again the expectation of the standard that we have has been.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Set Friday night kickoff, Bulldog Stadium. It's Monday, take us
through the week, coach.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, so we'll we'll go this morning and then we'll
have just some film and stuff this afternoon. We got
our first list of the week yesterday with our what
I call rotational guys, so we don't bring all of
our kids in. You know, if you're a guy that's
not going to play on Friday, your your first lift
is this morning. So it's kind of a split group today.

(07:47):
It's kind of how we do it. And then tomorrow
will be a heavy afternoon, really physical day, and we
say that Tuesday the output per player should match a
ball game, so our rep count the amount of run.
We'll do some conditioning tomorrow at the end of practice,
some short burst stuff, so we'll take him through. And

(08:08):
we talked at link about that. And now we have
these GPS tracking systems that can tell me there's no
more guess work. I know for a fact, how how
much a guy ran, or you know, like an example,
we had a kickoff Friday and we got a guy
that's a twenty two mile per hour guy, which is
our he's our fastest guy. Twenty two point one or
something like that, but his output Friday night was seventeen

(08:29):
point nine. Well he's not running, you know, and it's
no more you know, looking at that guy and saying,
I don't think you're playing hard. I know you're not
playing hard, right Like there is no the site, there's
no debate, and so that's something that we can address,
you know, with him and and so you know, those
kinds of things. But then Wednesday, we'll go in the morning,

(08:51):
nothing after school. I started that years ago and that's
been really a game change. Of course, we got the
coaches show Wednesday, you guys de Mark and then uh, Thursday,
we'll have a morning practice as well, and then we'll
come back after school and ice bath and have a
team meal and sort of get our bodies back. So

(09:11):
it's uh, it's and then Friday we'll come in uh
and have captains meeting. So like the kids don't know
which of the which are who are the four captains
that will be announced in front of the team. That's
a really big moment for us because it's it's special
when they get to wear a seat on their helmet,
but they only get to wear it for that week.
While they're a captain, and so the coaches kind of

(09:32):
talk about that, and uh, it's it's special to represent Ople.
I can walk out there in the middle of field
and so and then Friday night, hopefully you know, weather's
good and we have a huge crowd. I know, you
know alex City will travel and you know they'll be
excited with their new coach, and so you know, hopefully
we'll do well at the gate and be able to
support our kids even better. So, uh, we're excited about
the week, like I said, and ready to ready to

(09:52):
get for Friday.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
To get here sounds like a playing coach. We'll talk
to you at the end of the week to get
your outlook on the Benjamin Russell Wildcats. All right, nope,
you have a great week as well. Mallory and Games
were listening aheaded to work and they said good morning
and scoo and said, good morning. So awesome.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
I'm just glad they're around.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
That's awesome, Am, and me too. Coach. We appreciate you, buddy.
You have a great day and thank you for calling. Okay,
thank you. Good for go dogs.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
