Man, I know it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
If you lose, Oh yeah, they will go. What do
you think about the Alabama coach? How much pressure is
on him this year.

Speaker 5 (05:49):
Coach quite a bit, That's what I about that.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
But I think he'll do a good job.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Now, what do you say about that pressure?

Speaker 4 (05:56):
He got a lot to pressure.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I know he does, don't he?

Speaker 4 (06:00):
It was coching at Alabama has a lot of pressure
that yours truly, Now.

Speaker 1 (06:05):

Wow? You what did it? What? What kind of was
that your most pressured job? Coach?

Speaker 3 (06:20):
No?

Speaker 4 (06:20):
I guess working for Metro bedroom was more pressure than that.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Really?

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Wow? All right, So tell me this.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
You never knew how you stood than when I was
coaching at Alabama. I know Jack all stood.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
That's awesome. That's awesome. You felt more pressure with the
Cardinals than you did at Alabama. Right, What kind of
pressure was you under at Alabama? Was it with the
n pressure coaching? Were people in your ear?

Speaker 4 (06:48):
It was just primarily my pressure? You knew, you kneed
I know the expectation of Alabama.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Right now, I'm gonna ask this. We joke about this
a lot. Okay, all right? When you were owing read
what were you thinking?

Speaker 4 (07:03):
It wasn't matter what I was thinking is the other
people said, Lord, we didn't hire the wrong guy.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
They were saying that coach. You know that, don't they?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:12):
I know that.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (07:13):
They were writing articles and what what How did you
manage to weather through that, coach?

Speaker 4 (07:19):
I started forgotten about it?

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Tell you well, I lived it as a young person,
and yeah, I was a big fan of yours, as
you know, and I didn't like it, but you persevered
through it that that you flipped it around in Legion
field that day in the second half. I think Southern Mississippi,
wasn't it, coach?

Speaker 5 (07:37):
Yeah, the first game was.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Yes, sir, and it was just a tough time, but
you weathered through it and then had one heck of
a finish that year. Yeah, what was the key, coach?
What was that key?

Speaker 4 (07:52):
I guess the key would mind my current a little
bit because the players were the same. And I just
had to realized the situation I was in, had to
do something about it, but nobody else was gonna do
anything about it. How about that we was gonna be successful?
Had to win, well, I had to get I had
to be a better coach.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
Wow, And you became a better coach in your opinion,
no question, about that. Wow, your assistance coach had to
be better too, didn't they?

Speaker 5 (08:19):
Coach? That's right, well you.

Speaker 1 (08:21):

Paul Finebaum. Did y'all get along, coach, Paul Finebaum?

fan of Paul fine Bum.

Speaker 5 (08:35):

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Well, he got on you hard early, but I think
he I think he didn't do as bad on you
as he as he did on a lot of people.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
Coach wrote him a letter. Oh oh, he blushed him
pretty good.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Really yeah? Wow did he respond, Coach?

Speaker 4 (08:53):
Yeah? I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Oh if I did. If I got a letter from
miss Ruth and I'd go in then and hide if
it was a bad one, because he's a sweet lady.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
You would answer that one and.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
A hurry, Coach, I picked that telephone up Miss Ruth Ann. Well,
that's interesting. These guys do have it hard and you look, Coach,
I don't mean anything about you. Wasn't making ten million
dollars like they make now.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
No, I was just better surviving.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Well, I mean, you and Coach Die talked about y'all
didn't know what your contracts were when you signed them,
did you?

Speaker 4 (09:29):
Right? Yeah, I never did negotiate for a contract. I
felt like they're gonna pay me what they wanted to
payment though you made negotiating.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
You had no agent, didn't you.

Speaker 4 (09:40):

time time at the more import.

tears start bubbling up into my eyes when they see you.
They look at you as a very very strong man coach.
Those guys, those guys really look up to you. Well, white, black,
it don't matter, coach, I said, it doesn't matter what
color skin they are. They look at you the same way.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
That's right. And I looked at him the same way,
cause different black or white football player.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Now, if anybody ever wants to see that, they can
go that Hall of Fame dinner with you like I do.
And boy, they all they got to do is see
that and see how people interact with you. You touch
so many lives, coach, over the years, it's amazing heck.
