Speaker 4 (01:45):
The weather's been nice and I've been working outside quite
a bit. Other than that, I don't know what happened, Coo,
order to tell what happened this morning?
Speaker 1 (01:55):
I got you, I got you. College football is going on, coach.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
I know it. I ain't all watching it. I watch
a game there every time one is on.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
There you go, what did you watch last weekend? You
watched out?
Speaker 4 (02:06):
I can't last week?
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Oh that was last week. That's too far. You'll bet
you watched Alabama and Wisconsin, didn't you?
Speaker 4 (02:13):
I did.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Alabama took care of business on Wisconsin did.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
They did a good job. I worried a little bit
about that game earlier, but Alabama did a good job.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I worry about every game they play after that first game. Coach.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Yeah, Well, and once they get started, they're they're pretty good.
I think they're gonna have a good good year this year.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
You think so? I think so well, it's it's definitely
gonna be important that they win. Uh, they better start
with you.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Know where you're having that thing involved.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Well, what I was trying to say is they can't
afford to lose too many more?
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Can they coach they game?
Speaker 4 (02:50):
We're gonna be a good thing the game.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
I know.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
They got a hard schedule. They play a lot of
teams on Like they go to Auburn, they go to Georgia.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
That's tough at two tough games.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
They got an open week this week. What do you
think about open weeks? Georgia's got an open week before
they play each other. What do you think about that?
Speaker 4 (03:08):
I never did. I can tell you truth. I like
once you got started. I like to go right on
straight through you did. I did not like the open
or on advantage to it. You can get some injured people,
get them back ready to.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Right right, But I always the.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Injured they're not gonna win for you anyway. If they
was now, if they're injured most of the time, they're
not going to be winning for you anyway.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
No, you're right about that.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
You're right about that guy's play every weekend.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Does your team get out of sint by not playing
on a Saturday.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Coach, you argue both ways, but I like to play
once we get started. I didn't like an open day.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Yeah yeah, all right, So how does the open Gate
open week go? Do you practice every day like it's
a regular day, coach, or do you space it out?
Speaker 4 (04:00):
I get a couple of days off.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Oh well, that's pretty good. They enjoyed that.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
I bet I'm sure they did.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Well.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
You get them off early on the like this week
when they're not playing Monday, Tuesday or whatever. Yeah, okay,
all right, Now, Albur's got a biggie coach Arvers going
to Oklahoma. I mean it ain't, you know, a Juggernaut game.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
But good sir, Oklahoma's playing pretty good.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Well so as Auburn. It looks to me like I
know they are.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
But I expect Auburn in Alabama to play good every week?
Speaker 1 (04:32):
You right about that?
Speaker 5 (04:33):
You right?
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Always do it? But I expect them to.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
What about Florida getting beat by LSU with five turnovers?
I thought they was gonna win that game.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Yeah, but you know, LSU is a tough place to play.
Space in Baton Rouge when I was there, and now
I opened up the LSU every year, first game year
in Texas A and M and that LSU and that
that was a tough game for me.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Yeah, I bet it was. That was that too much?
Wasn't he coaching?
Speaker 4 (05:01):
That was? That was a tough Lonner?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Did they ever come to your place?
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Finally? I did you? About seven eight times? I told him.
I said, Look, I don't mind playing every year. I
won't play any college station every walk a while. That's wise.
When I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Play there, you go. You gotta have some home games
in there, don't it.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Right?
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah, that's kind of like when Auburn wanted to bring
that game over here to Auburn. They wanted them to have.
They wanted some home Alabama in a home game. They
didn't want to go to Birmingham.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
I don't blame him for that. Coach Al Yeah, you
know your buddy Dabbo. What about Dabbo? Coach, he done
lost two games in a row.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Well, it's been a long time. He's won a whole
lot more than he's lost. Oh.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Absolutely, I was just talking about you know how it
is in football. Coach, what have you done.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
For me lately?
Speaker 4 (05:49):
But any time he loses, it hurt me.
Speaker 5 (05:52):
I know, well, they may work in a while.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
But what I call him after he lost the game?
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Oh, you don't want to do that?
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I got you, I got you.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
Well, how after he won a game?
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Right right? Right? Well, if you talk to your granddaughter,
how does he say everything?
Speaker 5 (06:05):
She say everything's going Yeah, she says everything going fine.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
And he's doing good and they love her there in Alburt.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
I mean it's Clemson.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, well, I don't doubt that. I don't doubt that.
A great job for that bo Oh, I'm sure she
is coach. I can only imagine how good she does. Yeah,
working for him, they'll study that shit. You know what, though,
with the playoff system, they could battle back and make
the playoffs with two losses if they hain't tough.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Yeah, I think, man, I really think that. I think
they will. They have just lost the game and twodays
I felt like they had a chance to win. But yeah,
you know you're not gonna win them all. And it's
this conference. No.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Georgia Tech got him last week on the last second field.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Though, can't you believe Georgia Tech. I know coach when
I was at Alabama first getting the charts. If we
all have a temper watching. My team was Georgia Tech.
I remember the announcer for Georgia Tech was our two
hours old. I watched Georgia Tech every weekend til we
(07:12):
played him.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
He was there play by play guy.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
He was there play by play guys.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
And you knew him. You knew him because you watched
it so much, didn't you. Right, that's pretty good. Coach,
So y'all had one team to scout.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Yeah, back when I was just starting with Alabama working
for coach bryn we had one team that we were
responsible for, and we watched them all every week and
it came time to play that game and had to
be well prepared profecially working for coach Bryant.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
And you had Vanderbilt there was I mean you had
Georgia Tech. I was thinking about Vanderbilt. Did you ever
have two teams in one season?
Speaker 4 (07:53):
No? Both times when we were there, we just had
one pads of coaches that we just had one.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Okay, who did the Auburn game? Coach?
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Oh lord, I came.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Did Bear Bright do the Auburn game?
Speaker 5 (08:10):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (08:10):
He didn't. He did not like to lose Auburn.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
I was sure you no?
Speaker 1 (08:14):
What about when you were coaching. Did you like losing
to him?
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Sad again?
Speaker 1 (08:19):
When you were head coach, you didn't like losing to
him either, did you?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Oh? I didn't. I didn't like losing to anybody. Oh
I didn't do it too.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
You didn't, Okay, I was gonna say you didn't lose
too many times, coach.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Oh, we did lose something. I didn't want to lose
any Well.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
You know how many games you want a year at
Alabama that averaged over seven?
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Don't you?
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Sad? Sad again?
Speaker 1 (08:42):
How many? I bet? I know how many games you
averaged every year winning it at at Alabama?
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Ten average? Ten a year you average?
Speaker 1 (08:54):
You won seventy games in seven years.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Yeah, yeah, well and a national title.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Looking at Alabama, you're supposed to win.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Oh okay, all right, all right, so you ain't gonna
give yourself no credit. Huh supposed to win?
Speaker 4 (09:09):
I will say this. We were always well prepared upon them.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Oh absolutely, you were, even when y'all were old for three.
You were prepared. You just wasn't getting it done. That's right,
But that's your That's a good tip for everybody. Don't
start owing three didn't.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Do your coach, I wouldn't I would not recommend that
for anybody.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
How bad was.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
That on you at Owen three? Coach?
Speaker 4 (09:32):
It was tough, was it? Yeah? It really was it tough?
Wrong baby? Anybody else?
Speaker 5 (09:37):
When I figured that, then they said, well.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
We hired the wrong wind and I had to go
through all that. Yeah, I did that winning. I have
no complaints.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
You did when you made them have the laugh last
last laugh, Coach, you went on the road right on
through it. So you had a heck of it. Hey,
it ain't how you start, it's how you finished. And
that's what you.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Did, absolutely right. Anybody can started, but how you can't
even finish it?
Speaker 1 (10:05):
And you did finish. Yeah, you turned that. I was
going to every game then you turned that that game,
that team around on the track. Coach.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Well, I tried to the best I could.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Yeah you did.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
We didn't do early, no.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
No, but that's okay. It's how you finished.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Right, coach, It's how you finished. Correct.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Did you watch the end of the Tennessee Florida game,
I mean Tennessee Georgia.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Game, Yes, but I can't tell you just to get
to what happened.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Remember Georgia won in overtime. They kicked right, Yeah, Tennessee
missed that kick. That again, Tennessee missed a kick to
tie to win it in regulation.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Now that kicker is just as important as a quarterback.
He is. And you don't think he's important. You just
be down and they'll go to win the game. You
don't have a kicker, you're in trouble.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
You and if you can't kick one, thoo can aren't you? Coach?
Speaker 4 (11:03):
That's right?
Speaker 5 (11:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Tell me this who was kicking when you It wasn't
Van Tiffin? Who was your kicker? Do you remember? Was
it Proctor?
Speaker 4 (11:14):
That? Again?
Speaker 1 (11:15):
It wasn't Proctor? Was it?
Speaker 4 (11:17):
He had Proctor? Proctor? He he kicked for map A wild.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
And that's what I was wondering if he did. He
was pretty good, coach.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
It was a good kicker, Yeah he was, he was.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
You don't think a kicker is important. You just be
at the ends of the game and you need to
kick along well goal and you don't have a kicker,
you're in trouble.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
You are right about hey extra points too?
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Yeah? Well after part it's just a buy the game
and now you see where a few people.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Yeah, but you don't need to miss one though, No,
you don't. I mean that's the very important part of that.
So you know who's got the best team in the league.
Coach is at Georgia.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
You know, I thank so. I was just gonna pick one.
I picked Jarge and LUs. He was always a tough team.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Yeah, yeah, you right.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
And by the way, Michael Proctor was your night. Was
a player in your championship game. He was a kicker.
He was a freshman that year. Coach again, Michael Proctor
was a freshman the year you won the championship. How
about that?
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Yeah, he was good.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
He kicked for you as a freshman. How about that.
That's strong.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Yeah, whether he's freshman or best kicker would kick.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Oh I know, yeah, did you have a kick off
at practice or was he? How did you do that?
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Well? We kicked off? Yeah, what what do you may have?
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Well, I mean, did you have a contest with kickers
or was he? Did he win it? And that was it?
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Oh? Well, most times the kicker was the kicker.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Okay, I've a goot.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Two times I can't remember when somebody beat out a kicker.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
Got you?
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Got you? Well, they do that. Sometimes they'll get some
walk ons and try to get him out there and
booming way I'm looking at the schedule, coach. We don't
have a good schedule of TV games to watch.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
We do, we don't.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
We got Rice and Charlotte tonight.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
That ain't too good.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Oh yeah, we got on high school Night Friday night.
We got Oklahoma State in Tulsa Rutgers and iowall, that's
not any good. I mean, I don't mean it like
you know, I'm just saying not to watch. You got
Tennessee Tech on Saturday in Utah, Arkansas and Memphis, uh S,
(13:35):
m U and TCU and your world out there. Oh god, yeah,
TCU is not bad.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Neither a pretty good game as far as the country.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Neither one of them A rank coach UA B is
playing Tennessee. Oregon State's playing Oregon game.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Sir, Tennessee, well won that game, that's right.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
It looks to meet like the biggest game is Auburn
and Oklahoma. How you see that, coach, I pull Alburn, Well,
I know that I do too. You think they're gonna win?
Speaker 5 (14:08):
I do? They gonna think they're gonna win.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Thinks gonna be a good game, but I think they'll win.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
There you go, all right? What about Old miss and TWU.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
Lane well old yeah, old.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Missus pretty good, aren't they? Coach?
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:21):
All right, did you watch that Notre Dame game the
other night with Texa A and M I did. Boy,
that was a heck of a basket football game, wasn't it.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
That was a great game, I thought, and him represented
himself extremely well.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Yeah, I figured you were proud of Texas and them
they hung in there. Good.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Yeah, that was that was a good win for him.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Yeah, coach, I don't see another top ten match, not
top twenty matchup. Florida plays Miami, uh Illinois and Indiana
playing each other. That's two ranked teams for Miami.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
It was just a time I can remember getting ready
for Miami. They were a good football team.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
Yeah, they were, and you played them.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
We played them at Sugar Bowls.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Others, she's playing Southeastern Louisiana.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Other Sure, wasn't that one? Oh?
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Yeah, Texas is playing Sam Houston State or Sam Houston.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Saying, now I know why they do that.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Coach, I don't like that for the money out.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Yeah, and that's about it, Coach. I don't see any
other I really don't. That's a pole. That's a post schedule,
isn't it.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
Yeah? Well, I watch him any one.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Oh yeah, Now I didn't mean that. I didn't mean
that I might flip over and watch a horse race. Now, coach,
any of that again, I said, I might flip over
and watch a horse race in between it. But I'm
gonna watch it.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
All right, I'm gonna watch it too.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
I like to watch horses run, too, Coach, So I
might do that every once in a while.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
I enjoyed watching hars race.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
There you go, there you go, So all right, coach,
everybody all right.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
In the family.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
I had I had a horse at one time. A
guy's that. Now, I'll give you a race art if
you'll name him a.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
Name, if Jolly King, Jolly Jean.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
But the Harder. I got the telephone call. The guy said,
we got a problem with your harst. I said, what's that?
He said, the harder we working before he runs. Yeah,
we do have a problem.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Did he ever win a race?
Speaker 5 (16:20):
No, never want a big break, never want a big race.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Well, no, wonder he gave him to you, right, Dad, Again,
I said, no, wonder he gave him and gave him
the hord you the horse.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Yeah, the guy that gave him to me, he had
the better deal than that.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
He he did. No, he spent money and just gave him
to you and made you happy, and then he didn't
do anything.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
How's miss ruth ann Hes doing fine?
Speaker 4 (16:45):
He said, Be sure and tell Dave Martell?
Speaker 1 (16:47):
All well, there you go. I did it too. How
about your daughter's coach? Ain't heard from them in a while.
Is everybody doing good?
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Yeah? They come down and visit the old brand daddy,
grandmother once in a while. Brother, he's got a coming
up for long.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Oh oh, I know that's important.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
I know an important thing. Can't forget that.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
No, when is it?
Speaker 5 (17:07):
Coach?
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Coming this month?
Speaker 4 (17:09):
October the fourth?
Speaker 1 (17:11):
October the fourth? All right, I'm gonna write it down.
Make sure I remember that October the fourth. There you go.
She's gonna be thirty one years old, right right.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
You can't help me remember that because I can't forget
that day.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
All right, I'm writing it down. I'm gonna get you
early that morning.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
Coach, Okay, down, good to me.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
All right. Now, if you're gonna build something, coach, tell
me what we need to use to build it.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
One of these days, you're gonna ask me a tough question,
all right, don't bringer if you're gonna build something you
want it on time. You want quality wood, great Southern
wood and quality woodn't it. You'll be glad that you
got it.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
And if it don't have that yellow time.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
And there'll be it'll be the number one quality wood
you get.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
If it don't have that yellow tag on it, you.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
Don't want, you don't want.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
There you go.

great rest of the day and a great weekend.
