Speaker 1 (00:00):
Log Football Friday night six o'clock with the oak Lock
Environmental Services Tailgate Show six thirty from the stadium, we
coach Moore and Brian with Van Riggs. And then I've
said Brian, Coach Moore and Van Riggs and kick off
at seven from the Orthopeda Clinic Studio broadcast booth, I
should say, and Van, I'll have that game. Following that
the Encore High School Scoreboard Show on the Kicker till midnight,
(00:20):
and don't forget Saturday morning from eight to nine, me
and Jeff and Terry Rosenthal recap all the action from
Friday Thursday whenever they play in high school locally and statewide.
As I promise ladies and gentlemen, we're gonna break down
the Opla like a Pipe Road game. We had coach
Brian Moore on Monday, and we'll have him on Friday
as we always do. But we have a special guest
this morning, the head coach of the Pipe Road Patriots,
(00:43):
Granger shook his live and let me tell you a
little bit about Coach Shuok. Since he's taken over at
Pipe Road, he's done a phenomenal job. In fact, he's
done a phenomenal job in six years as a head coach.
Three years at Trinity he was fifty three and seventeen
ten wins season, two nine win season, and since he's
been at Pike Road an eleven win season, a ten
(01:04):
win season, and now he is sitting at four and one.
Granger shook, Good morning, coach, welcome to on the mark.
How are you.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I'm good man. I appreciate that intro man. I appreciate
you guys calling and giving me an opportunity to come
on this morning.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Well you're welcoming, coach. I'm reading facts, buddy. I appreciate
you saying that. But you have a phenomenal record. You've
done a heck of a job as a head coach,
so kudos to you.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Well, I appreciate that. It takes good It takes a
lot of good good men around me and good good
players to win win at this level. So I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah, all right, coach, Granger shook, Pipe Road. They're sitting
here for one. Coach, I saw, unfortunately from me, and
I saw your only loss. It was a tough game
against Enterprise, and it was a battle and we were
talking off there a little about it. But you beat Pravel.
It is a huge game, twenty one to fourteen to
start the season in Montgomery. Had to kickoff classic. Of
course you lost that seven point game. Enterprise, you had
to lead. He could have won the game. Beat her
(02:02):
Rehove with like they owed your money, as Jeff said,
sixty three to nothing. Beat we tump with twenty nine
to six, and beat Percy Juli and forty three to zero.
Now what I see real just right in front of
me is a bunch of points and not many scored.
You've given up six and three games, but that's your record. Coach,
tellus a little bit about your football team.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Well, you know, we are. I believe our boys are
getting better each week. You know, that's what we've kind
of set out to do from the start. You know,
we have a lot of new starters up front on
both sides of the ball, and you know, especially in
the offensive lineas it takes a while for those five
to jail, and so I'm proud of the progress they've made.
(02:45):
There's still a long a long way to go, you know,
and they will get tested, as you know tomorrow night.
I think that's probably one of the strengths of Coach
Moore's team is his big boys up front on both sides,
and so that's that's going to be a huge factor
in the morrow night's game. Coach More and his staff
(03:05):
do a great job in their prep and so I
know they'll have a great plan in all three phases.
And uh so I'm expecting a four quarter game, a
physical game, as we mentioned off the air man, I'm
you know, I'm expecting a playoff type environment. Oh yeah,
I know. I know their fans and their band and
(03:26):
will be loud. I hope our our group shows up
and as loud as well. So hopefully for for both squads.
I know it's a non region game, but hopefully for
both squads it's a playoff type environment and a deep
one at that. And so I'm excited for the opportunity
to go to Opaike and and hopefully put our best
foot forward.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
When you're on the Mark GRANGERSUK head coach at Pipe
Road with us, he's on our Hambletons top line. Hamiltons
has two locations to serve you on Magnolia and Ogletree
and Auburn, two fine places to dine with one name
as I mentioned therefore, and one coming off a huge
one over Percy Julian We Tumka and Rahova three wins
in a row before the one lost the enterprise. Coach,
you got some athletes. I enjoyed watching your team play.
(04:08):
They played really hard, and you had a great atmosphere
at your stadium too. It's small, but you have a
heck of an atmosphere too. Going on air, Coach.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Well, I appreciate that. You know, it's something we've been
intentional with. You know, our players do a great job of,
you know, getting out in the community and going to
the elementary schools and the intermediate school and you know,
luckily for us, similar to Opolaika. You know, we're we're
a one horse town, and so we are we are growing,
(04:37):
you know, and we're growing at a at a pretty
good rate. So but I mean we're very intentional. We're
going to those schools and having youth nights and and
having military appreciation night. You know, there's a big military,
uh you know, continguency here in Pike Road, and and
so just making sure those those those younger families and
(04:59):
the older families feel appreciated here. And and I think
it provides you know, a good a good environment when
they come and support.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
All right, kudos to you. The place was packed. That's
what you want to put butts in seasons that put
people in the stands, and that's right. Pull for those kids,
That's exactly right. Pike Road and Oplaika, all right, coach
playing in Bulldog's what do you think?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Tell me about what you see in you know, coach
Coach Moore and his staff. You know, Coach Moore has
been very successful everywhere he's been as well, and so
he knows what it takes to win. He knows, he
knows the little things. He's he's got a great blueprint,
you know. But like I said earlier, I think the
battle up front is going to be is going to
be where the games won and lost. You know, I
(05:41):
think taking care of the football, you know, I think
I think Opulaika and Pike Road, I think we're very similar.
You know. I think we stumped our toe early in
the year on games that we both could have won.
And I think turnovers had a big factor in both games.
So I think whoever could take care of the ball
will come out on top, you know. And uh so
(06:04):
I think I think Opalaka is you know, long and
fast in the right places, and I think they're they're
big in the right places, and so I know both
staffs will have a good game plan. It's gonna come
down to execution. I think it's gonna come down to
adjustments on the sideline. Again. I think it's gonna be
a really good game, and I think you know it's
(06:26):
gonna be a you know, Round three hopefully Round four
uh type environment for for both programs.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Yeah, I agree with it. I'm sitting here looking OPLAC
has got uh doth in next week, and that's a
reading game. Course, this is a non reading game. You
guys have part crossing next week. So no, yeah, part
cross the next week, and then Elmore County and then
Russell County. All of you got bigger fish to fry
for this. But that doesn't mean this game is not important,
does it.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Coach, No, sir, I think it's a very important game,
not not necessarily for for playoffs, but but really for morale.
You know what I mean. And you know the mentality
going into your next region opponent. You know who can
make the adjustments and who can make the plays you
know this week to help build on the momentum you've
(07:14):
created here lately, to go into region play and really
propel you for you know, hopefully making a region championship push. Yeah, again,
I'm excited about it, and I'm excited to get to
coach against such a great staff, you know, and I
know I know my staff is as well, And so
(07:35):
again my hat's off to coach More. He does an
excellent job, and I know his boys will be ready
to play, and hopefully ours will be to coach.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Is your team healthy? Are you healthy coming in up
like it?
Speaker 2 (07:46):
We are? Man? You know, I talked to our boys.
I talked to our boys last week and really yesterday
morning in our team meeting. You know, anytime you play
six a seven a ball and you're going into week
six of the season, nobody's going to feel one hundred percent.
And you know, there's gonna be bumps and bruises. They're
gonna be there's gonna be tweaks here and there. But again,
(08:07):
going back to mental toughness, going back to playing for
your for your brothers, going back to playing for your family.
Whenever you play for somebody else and something bigger than yourself,
you know, it helps helps you push through those things.
And so again I'm sure there's there's guys on both
on both squads who may not be feeling one hundred percent.
(08:29):
Uh but but hopefully we can push through and and
and put our best eleven out there.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
When you I'm sorry, go ahead out of the inn rupt.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
No, no, no, no, you're good.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
When you look at OPLAC, they've played three quarterbacks of late.
What do you think of that? How does that? How
do you prepare for that?
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Well, it's tough, you know, it's tough. I think I
think all three quarterbacks bring a different element, you know,
I think I think they're both I think all three
of them or maybe a little better at at one
thing than than than the next guy. And so again,
you know, making sure that that that we're dot our
eyes across our teas with our alignment and our assignment
(09:06):
pre snap pending who's in and and and and what
formation open like it gives us. So again, it's gonna
be a great test for us defensively, it's gonna be
a great test for us, you know, in all three
phases because those those guys up there in open I
could do a great job and they got some really
good football players. So it makes it a little tough
(09:28):
for us defensively, but hopefully our boys will be up
for the challenge.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Special teams coach, as you mentioned, it could come to that.
Your thoughts on both teams special.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Teams, well, uh, you know, Opa like has got a
great kicker. He can put it, He can put it
in the end zone every time if he wants to.
You know, they they got great, great range on field goals,
you know what I mean. So making sure we're smart defensively,
you know, and and and then the punting game. You know,
I think I think they have an excellent, excellent kicker there,
(09:59):
you know as well, Oh who can kick it high?
You know, I think that was really wanting. It was
an early early turnover we had last year, you know,
when we fumbled the punt and gave Opa like a
great field position early in the early in the first quarter.
I think that helped give open like a great momentum. So,
you know, we've been working on our special teams this week,
(10:22):
you know, trying to solidify those things a little, you know,
and be a little better prepared. But again, it comes
down to execution, and it comes down to making those
plays when the opportunity arises, there you go.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Coach Shook, anything else would like to bring up.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Man, Mark, I appreciate what you do, not sir, for
op not not just for Opahlaika, but for all the
high school programs in this area. Man, you're you're a
great advocate, and I appreciate your time and hard work.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
I really do. You're kind of say that, Coach. I
appreciate you taking time this morning. We'll see over and
open like a Friday night buddy. Yeah, okay, safe traveling coach,
you got it and that's it. Granger Shook head coach,
A very class man. They're head coach of the Pike
Road Patriots getting ready to take on them dogs Friday
night at Bulldog Stadium. If you can't make it, you
can hear all the action on our sister station, ninety
seven point seven Kicker FM with Van Riggs and his
(11:11):
crew starting at six o'clock on the Kicker
