for that community over there. They were excited and uh
the kids were excited and uh you know they they
got a lot coming back over there.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Well there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
I know that that it took a lot for you
to leave. Talk about leaving and coming to Borgar. Coach
by the way, coach Marley won the state championship last
year at Wadley High School.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Uh and he now is the head coach at Borgar.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Talk about leaving that you had a lot of kids
coming back, including a great running back, this this highly
recruited talk about making that move.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Coach, Well, you know what we you know, it was
just it was a tough decision because we had a
good core coming back. We had a lot of skilled
guys coming back. We lost some some linemen over there.
But uh, you know, I think they do have a
have a good chance to uh to repeat. They uh
(02:03):
like they they got that. They got a good running
back and Quiz Wheels and they also plays flying backer
on defense and he is a he is a true
ball player.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Now.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
But you know, I just, uh something something in my
heart just told me, you know, I needed. I saw
this opportunity to come open over the ball guard, and
you know, I put in for it and uh, you
know ended up over here, which you know, I'm I'm
(02:35):
excited about it, and I think, uh, I still feel
like I made a good decision. I know, I know
the area and I know, uh I went to I
went to Hamley and we we played ball guard. You know,
they were always uh, they were always tough. You know.
(02:56):
They they've always had tough kids. And I ain't greet.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Kids, Sir, coach Shannon Motley, head coach of the Boar
Guard hornts with us.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
That's a good you right, coach.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Take that step up now, the head coach of the
Hornets coming off of state championship. Now talk about moving
into Boarguard. Coach, what you know you started working there
now right you're rolling?
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, Well I started last week. Last week's my first
week with them really and uh, you know why we've
been in the weight room and and and doing some
utility stuff. Man, that these guys are and I'm gonna
have to brag on because they've been working hard. They
they get in the weight room, they grind. Man, They've
(03:35):
they really surprised me. You know, you don't have to
get on anybody. Really. They they get in there and
they've been working hard.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Well that's good. I know that makes you feel good.
Like you said, getting them ready for the fall, that's
what it takes, isn't.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Gotta have them read.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Do you know the numbers coming back, coach, you're able
to know them all. I mean, you've figured out who
you got back in numbers wise.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
I man, I'm I'm still learning like that, but I
know we've got about we got around around fifty five
kids probably.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
There you go, and that's with you not happening.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
You didn't have any days with them in school, so
you haven't been able to walk those halls, have you coached?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
I hadn't. I hadn't been able to getting the hallways.
I think I went to school like one time. Uh,
and that's kind of when they kind of introduced me
and uh and I had actually had to finish up
at right so right, but but yeah, we so really
my I mean, my first day with him was last
(04:42):
week and uh, it's my second week with him.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Here.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
There you go, Coach Motley with us head coach of
the Boar Guard Horns. Tell me about your family coach
real quick. I know you got young ones, tell.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Me about them.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Yes, I got my wife, Lesley, she's she's actually gonna
be uh she got through a teacher. There you go,
first grade. And then my son's actually gonna be be
part of the team. I don't know, I don't know
how much playing he's gonna get, but he's gonna be
in the ninth grade. And then I got another son,
(05:15):
he's gonna be in sixth grade.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Well, there you go.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
I'll send you the number to the head coach and
see if you can't get up with him and get
your son some playing time. That seems to me the
going away. Just get the parent to go talk to hey, coach,
my son ain't playing.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
I'm just kidding. No, I know how hard it is
on your son. I'm sure to be out there, but
I'm glad. I'm glad.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
So tell me about what y'all been able to do,
coach in your early days here at Bolgoard.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Well, I've been I'm over a defensive guy, so I've
been over there on the defensive side kind of installing
stuff and you know they responded, well, they they they're
picking it up pretty good, you know. So really. I
spent three days with him last week today my horse. So,
(06:01):
uh we just I've just kind of been been on
the defensive side, trying to trying to get that install I.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Can't imagine coach coming in. Where do you I mean,
where do you start? Well, I mean, like what's your
first I know you got to introduce yourself, but just
what do you do? Roll your sleeves up and just
go that don't make the wrong way, But I wouldn't
know what to do coach that.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
That's really what I do. I think for the most part,
they they've had a they've had a pretty organized program
over here, you know, and and these kids, they they
understand that process that hated, you know, and we we
we just gotta gotta do what we can do and
learn what we can learn. But uh we we went
(06:48):
in there and we separate offense defense, and uh right
now we've been kind of separating and and and people too,
but trying to get your personal all right, I get
it right, And so you know, I was in there,
so they going on board this and that, and I
knew it some of it, probably probably staying like Spanish
(07:09):
to some of them, but you know, and then Finally
I turned out the little I said. I said, don't
let this discourage you. I said, the best way to
learn this is to get out here on the field,
and you know ya. So but they responded good and
they're learning.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
I'm good. And then I'm glad you made that comment
about they know how to work. That's good. That's good
of you to say that. Coach.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
There's a lot about your your who you are as
a person to Jones did a good coach.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Jones did a good job.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
There and it shows the worst ethic is there and
you got to come bid on that and make it better.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
I love that. Coach.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Shannon Motley was the head coach of the Boar Guard Hornets.
Are y'all going three or four days a week?
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Now, coach? How much you're working out?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
We're going three days a week?
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Yeah, that seems to be the goring tree. And have
you are you? Are you able to go I call
them touch football? Are you able to go on seven
on seven camps or any of that? Coach?
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Well, you actually got one this morning where we heading
coach at Alabama State this morning, A right to do
a little seven on seven.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
There you go. Now, what's your quarterback, looking like, how
many you got there?
Speaker 3 (08:08):
We got we got two guys working in there right now,
you know, and uh, one of them he's a big kid,
and uh he got a good arm, you know. And
then the other kid, he's he's got a pretty good
arm and he's a little bit more agile back there.
So but uh, you know, we got some other guys
(08:30):
we're going to we're gonna work around and see there you.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Go, there you go? Are you working your So you
got your ninth graders?
Speaker 2 (08:36):
What about your your middle school, some college, junior high?
I don't know what it is in Borgard, coach, Don't
mean that the wrong way because I deal with a
lot of schools. But what about your your feeder program,
your eight seventh ninth grade?
Speaker 1 (08:48):
What do you mentioned?
Speaker 3 (08:49):
They're also coming they're coming in two days.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Were good?
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Good, they's just uh we're working out nine through twelve,
working out three days, and then our seventh and eighth
grade coming in at jus and Thursday's good. And then
they're working in there too.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
So well it sounds like you got it going on, coach.
You just got to make that truck ride for a
little bit, don't you. There, Yeah, I gotta.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Get I gotta get a house sold and then find
something over here. Uh, but uh, it's not too bad.
It's round at Iowa.
Speaker 1 (09:18):

Butter them be ready to get home.
Speaker 2 (09:24):

You get me home, pers se, get me home, see
my family. It won't be long, coach, they'll be all together,
you know how that is? Yeah, all right, what about
your coaches? You got your full staff right, weren't able
to bring anybody yet.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
I ain't got anybody in there here that that I hired.
But they got it. They got a good group of
guys here. Oh yeah, you know some guys that's that's
been here. And man they're there workhorse too, you know.
They go there's there's a lot of help and uh,
they get here and man, they're in the grind too.
(10:02):
Good deal right now. I couldn't ask for any better
man because they get in there and work.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Sounds like a good, good situation. Coach.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
I thank you very much for your time this morning.
