we bring in Jason Callwell with Auburn Undercover dot Com.

glad to have him with uson before we go any farther.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Let's get that.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
And with that we go to the Hamilton's Hotline. Hamilton's
has two locations to serve you on Magnolia and Old Tree,
same restaurant, well, the same name too, different restaurants with
the same menu and a great, great staff to help you.
Jason Callwell with Auburn Undercover dot Com. Good morning, my friend,
Steve Mark.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
How you doing.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
I'm doing good. Got coach Wilson, Coach sass As I
call him in here. We all ready, man, you ready,
all ready? Let's go All right man, what happened last week? Jason?
It wasn't good on offense. Their defense played well, but
it was a tough loss. But they never was over
until the game was over. I mean they never was
out of it until the game was over.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah. No, it's the that's the thing you look at
right now. You're looking to go. You've had opportunities in
two games against you know good football teams. I don't
know that either one of those are playoff worthy teams.
But I also don't know anybody in this league that
I think is a great football team. I think there's
a bunch of good ones, but I think Altron is

(01:31):
I think talents enough to play with anybody on the schedule.
But you can't beat anybody waiting the way they did Saturday.
Really the last two weeks, do we forgive them? In Oklahoma?
You had opportunities Saturday. You just to me, you can't.
You can't get into a game and not run the
football at all and be able to run this offense.

(01:53):
It's an RPO system. It's not designed to drop back
and throw at forty sometimes a game. And so to me,
you got to the first thing is you got to
buy a week. You got to figure out what you
are and who you are as an offense. First three
weeks they ran it, were really patient, played to the defense,
and and and they won. Now they didn't play great

(02:13):
football teams, but you feel like the last two weeks,
if you've done the same things, you probably would have
had a great tant to win those games. And so
is that enough to be to Georgia or in Alabama
at home. I don't know, but Saturday's offense isn't gonna
be enough to win those games either, So you got
to figure something out.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Well, you nailed it. That's a mouthful right there. What
what what do you think?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I mean?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
It appears coach Freese is still calling the plays on
when you said I'm not there, I'm not at practice
you are, but daring he's talking to somebody before each play. Uh,
it looks like on us is he still calling the place?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Jason, Yeah, Yeah, he's I mean yeah, Darick Nixon and
Ken Austin have input, but it's it's it has always
gone through you, breeze, and he's the guy that has
ultimately say so and play calling. That's that's always been
the case. And so that's the interesting part of this is,
you know, and I don't think it's a it's not

(03:11):
a three headed thing. It is it's a one guy
that has inputs from other guys. And that's the way
it is for a lot of folks. Yeah, other coaches
have that same situation that has been made a bigger
deal of what I mean, I think Ken, Ken, you
I mean, you got to obviously got to run the football.
But I think Jackson o'nald has to has to play
much better. It's not just throwing the football. I think

(03:35):
he's told the ball really way too long. Yeah, and
then and then not seeing some guys when he's had
opportunities to throw the football. And if you have opportunities,
you cannot miss them. In this league. In the last
two weeks, I would guess there's probably been I don't know,
six or seven pretty obvious ones you look at and go,
not just the throws that were made, the throws that

(03:57):
weren't made, and you go, look, you make two of
those plays a game, and you win two of them.
And so got to figure out again, what are his strengths,
what are your strengths as an offense and play into those.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Is any talk about maybe using one of those other quarterback?

Speaker 2 (04:16):
I was about to ask that question, and I think
that's something that they said, everything's on the table this week,
so we'll see what that looks like. It's your soul
like to me last Saturday at halftime that it's an
opportunity to see what it might look like now if
and do tonight out on the road at halftime in

(04:38):
that situation, maybe not maybe Ashton Daniels, but then you
got two weeks and uh. I think the first thing
is is that what do you feel like your team
does best. If you feel like you run it the best,
then I think you know Jackson aren't on, Ashton Daniels
are probably better fits in that mode. But if you
feel like, man, the best chance we gonna have to

(05:00):
win is to go five wide spread teams out. And
to me, I think one of the things that no
matter who is, I think you have to get back
to tempo, whether it's a twenty five second drive, whatever
it is. But I think right now anything you can
do to limit what the defense does in terms of

(05:20):
how you know, how exotic they can be, would be
a benefit for this Auburn offense. So I think tempo
no matter what. But I think if you're gonna throw
it a bunch, then then that opens the door for
Deuce Night. But may all to just depend on what
they feel like this week is the best route going forward.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Man, have you been to Balway? Jason Carr with US
Auburn under govern got calm. He's on our Hamlet side line.
You're on the march with Dean Martin, Jeff and coach
Joe Wilson. You've been to practice, Jason, have you seen
anything they not?

Speaker 2 (05:47):
This week? With a bye week, it's it's pretty closed off,
and normally normally that's the case. Anyway, it's really any
different with that, but it is a little closed off
this week. We'll get we'll get a peak in there
next week, I believe, just to kind of see how
things are going on. I would bet it doesn't look
a ton different when we're out there, and that doesn't
mean there.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Won't be some changes, right ohen fourteen. I think on
third down to put guy, their defensell them in the game,
didn't they, Jason?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah, the defense plates and it really well. Again he
gave up one drive and he gave up some yards
a little bit here and there, but and they just
keep grinding, and I think they've done it. They've done
a great job. They really have. And you know, you
look at that and you go, man, you can build
on that. I think Alex McPherson is getting healthier, which
is a big deal for this team. I think you've

(06:39):
got pieces. You got pieces there where you're going, Hey,
there's some things to build around. You just got to
find a way to go and get some continuity and
some rhythm on offense, and they haven't really had that
all season long.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
And quite honest, I give I give that one of
the score to the defense and one of them that
intercepting what they did. They get it down there in
one play the score right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Yeah, you get it down to the two yardne that's
a that's a defensive that's Jason.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
I agree, that's a that's a defensive score. So got
to be healthy there. Getting the ball to the young
man from central I mean, he's good. I know they're
trying to do you see. Is that something that there
You see him doing more in the future, getting getting
the ball in his hands. He's a playmaker.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yeah, uh you know. And Saturday it felt like that
Texas and M's look like we're going to bait you
into throwing it should over and over again, and that
it didn't really challenge down the field a little bit.
And some of that is holding the football and in
the situation you're in where there's so many third longs

(07:40):
that by the time you feel like you can get
the ball down the field, teams are just bringing pressure.
They're like, look, we're not gonna play around anymore. But yeah,
you've got to be able to get the ball down
the field to Cam Colvin. That's the strength, that's what
he does the best. And so some of those these
early down situations, and I said, some other times you
may just have to go max protect early and and

(08:03):
and have three receiver route, but take a shot with
him down the field in some of the situations. And
they've had they've had some of that. And that's where
a few freezes said, look and one on one opportunities,
you just got to throw the football. And I don't
think they've done enough of that.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
I may be wrong here. I just thought about it.
Didn't they have it? Now, I'm not criticizing any places happened.
Didn't they have a long pass drop early in the game?
Am I wrong?

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Isn't not? This time? I guess Oklahoma they had my bad.
You had you had one called early down the field
Barry Singleton, and then you had led to a field goal.
All right, then you had we threw one down the
field to Barry Thompson. And then there might have been
one other one that was the decent, But that was
really the only time down the field that.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
That Yeah, I've seen so many games I gave them confused. Uh.
Coach Freese comes out and says, hey, not been pleased.
Doesn't look good. I'm evalu waiting everything. Is that really
the case you think? Including himself?

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Yeah, I think so. I think if you don't evaluate
everything after the way they played offensively Saturday, then you're
not doing your job. I think we will. I mean I
think that's now. What that leads to who knows, because
you might evaluate everything and go, look, this is the
best chance we got. But I think there'll be some
changes now. Like I said, what that is? Is it?

(09:24):
Is it play calling? Is it what you're doing? Is
it strategy scheme? Is it personnel? Yeah? I would imagine
that there'll be a lot of things looked at during
this bye week because you don't really have to game
plan anything now for Georgia to get to be in
the weekends.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
I would never bring this up Jason Norman, but they're
getting paid now, so I can say this. They seem
to have some trouble with a couple of line and
not not being able to block some guys. I just
saw it Saturday. Do you see any movement or changes there?
Just just some guys that just couldn't get it done.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Yeah, I think that's another question that has to be raised.
You start looking at like in I think some of it,
some of it's situational where you're like, okay, you're I mean,
the last two weekends they were averaged. I think it's
eleven point four yards to get on third down against
Oklahoma and Saturday it's ten points show and then well,

(10:20):
any factor in that you really only run the ball
four times and you're not giving your offensive line with
a chance just when you're dropping back again. I think
they dropped back to pass almost fifty times. When the
defense knows, hey, they're going to throw it every dawn,
it changes the mentality. Especially it'd be different if it

(10:41):
was a run and shoot where you're like, hey, you're
throwing it, you're getting the ball out of your hands, you're
doing those things. Defenses don't like that a whole lot.
This was, hey, we're dropping back and scanning the field
and that's hard. So I think, again, I think some
of that's on what you're doing, some of it's on
the offensive line, some of us on Jackson Arnold. So

(11:03):
but yeah, there's no question you got to be better.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
Anything else you want to brew up that I didn't
that maybe something you can think of the needs being drowned.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Not really, I mean, I think it's just you know now,
it's what I What I said this week is I
think this is the first probably legitimate pressure week for
Hugh Freeze since he's been at ALLBUN. I think the
first two years, I think people understood and that's that's
a roster that's not very good. They're getting better, And

(11:31):
I said, look, you can look at this roster now
and go look, this is a roster that has the
chance to go compete and beat anybody. Now, that's when
the pressure starts. Now, Like I said, I'm not saying
that I thought this team was going to go twelve
and zero. Didn't think this team was going to go
ten to two. But I thought this is an eight
and four, nine and three teen. Yeah, and you're still
that's still there. Everything, all of those things are out

(11:53):
there in front of you. But you got to be
better than you wear Saturday offensively.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
There you go, I agree, go ahead, Coak. You know
nowadays the last three or four days there's been more
talk who might be replacing him. Now that's already crazy stuff.
Go ahead, Jason, Well.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
It actually it also started after you know, Alabama lost
to Florida STATEIU and Wemen. That's the world. It's just
the world we live in now. It's just it's just
part of it.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
And and hey, there's more pressure because the social media
aspect of things, everything and everything is more what have
you done right now? Situations? And look again, Jason, three
or four coaches fired already. Yeah, no, you have no
And that's the thing. No, I'm not saying that. I'm

(12:45):
not saying it's not real. I'm just know what it is.
I would be I would be beyond shocked if anything
worth to happen before the end of a season. Yeah,
I would be beyond shop.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Yeah, that'd be crazy.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Real quick.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
What you thought at Arkansas? You think they'll give it
to him? You think Teville or not Tbville.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
But uh, I don't get that job. I mean I
know as a football coach, I think Patrino again would
be would be good. I just don't know that you
can go back there because of all the off field
stuff that happened, and it happens be different if it
happened somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
I know it happened.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
It happened there. That that makes it a little bit
different to me. Hey, it could happen, depend on what
If they go and win games the rest of the year,
then it's gonna be hard not to. But I would
lean more towards than trying to make the run it reht. Lastly,
that's going back Rett Arkansas kids from Springdale right there? Now,

(13:46):
I think you've got a better job.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Do you really better than that? How about that?

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Do you really I think if Arkansas was in the
Big twelve, then I would say Arkansas is that job.
But I think I think to get to the playoffs
and win do those things? Wow? And and your money
is not really any different than the SMU. I think
it's a I think it's an easier place to go
win at that. Amusing Arkansas right now, but it's a

(14:11):
great jab and gu and Gus. After talking to him some,
I'll be really surprised if he became a head coach. A.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yeah, he sounds like he just set to be a
be a coordinator and he's just.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
I think, I think a little while and then look,
he's made a lot of money. Chance to go enjoy
that here? I think, what what the head coaches have
to deal with now, I'm i think getting back out
of that again. I think that's probably like I'm okay
with with what I'm making right now. Yes, go coach football.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
