Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is so they are playing basketball all they have started.
They started for a few weeks ago. We talked to
Dusty Burdeux early in the morning, and we talked to
William Johnson before Super seven. And we're going back to
the Hamilton's hotline. Hamilton's with two locations to serve you on.
May know you an Ogle Tree. We're going to at
least got academy to bring in the head boys coach

(00:21):
of the Warriors, William Johnson. Good morning, Coach.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Johnson, Good morning guys.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
How are y'all? We're doing good? How about you doing well?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
I'm doing I'm glad to see the sun.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
You ain't lying. We need some son more ways, more
reasons than us, but you were right. It is good
to see some son. Coach, tell us about you boys
basketball team. First, I want to congratulate on it, but
I didn't get to see the game. Had a lot
going on. But congrats on a big win Friday night
over Auburn High School. Coach for Due mentioned that in
his segment with us this morning, congratulating and I want
to do the thing. That's a huge win for your program.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
It was a huge win for a program, our school,
our kids. You know, our guys played at a really
high level and we're fortunate enough to win the game,
and you know, just a lot of fun. You know,
there was no pressure on the night for anything other
than just playing for fun and getting a chance to
compete against the seven A school the high level competition.

(01:14):
And I thought our guys did a great job of that.
Just a fun night. It was a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, you avenged an earlier loss a few weeks earlier
at Auburn. I believe it was fourteen coaches that all
right about that?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, I think it was something that I actually, you know,
we we got behind early at Auburn, and you know,
they did a good job and we just it was
good for us to see that early on too. And
I said, always getting them twice to play at that level,
and you know, our region is just you know, such
a tough region and you know, being able to play

(01:49):
Auburn twice is really good for us.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Oh, no doubt about it. Yeah, I didn't mean interview,
No doubt about that. Tell me, just did they have
different players that they have the regular players? Did they
have them all? Coach?

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Did they have I think I didn't even have had
a you know man that was injured from football. It
wasn't back. Rather than that, I think they had everybody
the first time they had, you know, the football players.
You'd play up like it.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
I know, I know, have anybody, you know.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
But we were also less than a week of getting
I mean we had one or two practical good point
football guys too, So it was you know, is what
it was. It was just early season basketball and inconsistent,
and so you know this Friday night we were fortunate
to have everybody and the packed own.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah. I heard Parker Wright actually is one year old
center forward, told us you told me you won, actually
said you had a fifteen point lead and a half.
Is that right?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Maybe that's thirteen or something like that. It was, you know,
double digits right for aft time, and they went on
like a five oz run right for the half. We
didn't finish real well, but you know, they came out
in the third quarter and they really got after it.
I told our guys I figured they would. I actually
think they tied it on a dunk.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
I think they did.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Coach Yeah, about two minutes and it felt like two minutes,
I know, it quick. And but then our guys responded,
and I think we went on about a seven oh
runs to answer bar run, which was you know, always
good to see, especially from a veteran team like we have.
And at that point in time, we just kept the
rolling and every every run they had we answered. So

(03:16):
you know, that's how you win big games.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, that's how you played the game. And good that
you kids didn't back down, coach when they when they
answered that bill and came back and tied the game up.
That's been a quick time for you to fold a tent,
you know what I mean? Say this big schools picking
and whoop us and and didn't who played well for you?
If you want to singleing buddy out.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
I'm Hayden Harper had a really good game.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
I can't imagine that leading scorer, yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
With twenty two and I think he had seven rebounds
or something like that. William Lyles had a double digit game.
I think Barrett Cook was four for six from three
point line. He had a really good game. You know,
we had I think twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Bench points, dang coach.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Which was huge trust and I thought that was probably
the difference in the game.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Oh wow, who came off the bench by a Byron U.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Chavin Harris Barrett Cook both had really good games.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
I forgot Barrett don't start, good call, good.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Call and so and they are both k plus doing that.
And they're both cap blood starting, so it's not like,
you know, they're you know, they're really good basketball players.
So that was good for us, you know, so we
were able to, you know, when we sub and not
lose momentum. That's always a good thing.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
When you get twenty seven off the bench, coach, that's
that's that's that's big. And Wayne Newton right there and
Dusty Berdoo with us this morning on the Mark Talking Basket.
I'm not this to me, Dusty, but do we had
Durham High bad Coach William Johnson was talking at least
got basketball. The Warriors beat Auburn Friday night. What's your
overall record, coach?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
What here? Seven and two?

Speaker 1 (04:45):
We are start?

Speaker 2 (04:47):
So pretty good start. We played a lot of real
tough competition, I think. And it was also the last
second shot at six A Pike Road and then at Auburn,
So you know, two pretty good.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
You lost to the last second shot coach in uh
Pipe Road? Did you really yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
On the last second three three seconds ago.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Actually, god, that's the that's huge. You guys. Have you
got a veteran team, now, there's no doubt about that.
But you've played some good You've played some good teams.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yeah, we have a really tough schedule, some good wins.
One at Montgomery Academy over Thanksgiving, which is the big
win for us.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Oh yeah, I didn't realize you did.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah, all right, give me your schedule, gonna try. I've
lost it all of a sudden, coach fending on this computer,
had you pulled?

Speaker 2 (05:31):
We got our first area game the night against you love.
We do a December area game, so that's a big,
big game for us. You know, we got to really
turn this page real quick. Friday night's over and so
this is, you know, a big big game for us tonight.
Then we have Brookstone out of Columbus coming in Friday,
and then Lafayette coming in on Saturday. So we got
a big week of basketball this week, you know, looking

(05:54):
looking forward to.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
All right, tell us where tonight's game at coache Where
you play at tonight?

Speaker 2 (05:59):
You're at you go tonight?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Okay, kind of run down here, you gave you said
the live he was a SAI. What number is he coach?
Do you know?

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I believe he changed to ten this year? Uh Wyatt
Watley swap numbers.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Actually, okay, I was just trying to place out who
he was. All right, give us, give us your all
your players if you will, maybe who starts for you
if you want to list those.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Well we got you know, Hayden starts the point for us,
and you got Parks Myers and William Wiles and Gray
Hailey and Cord Zellner have been kind of starting first,
you know, the first part of the year. And then
you got Barrett Cook and Chapman and whyitet Wattley and
Zachary coming off the bench. They're doing a really really

(06:41):
really good job for us, really high level, and so
everybody's kind of shaking off the football dust and starting to,
you know, get it going. So it's you know, we
got and I'd be reliant to you, you got about
eight guys that could all start for us at any
given time.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
So yeah, there he plays the role.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
And the I played about to say money minutes.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah, skate them on and off like ice hockey. That's
what I like. Coaches get them all right. So you
got Bulah on the road tonight. Then on the twelfth
you got brookst On at home. Then on the thirteenth,
it looks like you play another Is it a day game, coach?

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Maybe, yeah, we'll play. We'll tip varsity girls actually tip
at one on Saturday, versus I say it'll be a
big game, it will be here, it'll be here.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Okay, well that's good, And then mondays like, well, next
week you go to PoCA, and is that right? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:31):
On Thursday we got to PoCA and the tournament we
were scheduled to go in didn't make and so we're
we're in TBA mode for the nineteenth and twentieth.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
So okay, I noticed you didn't have anything between there
and the twenty night, so you're looking to add a
few games in there.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
We're trying. We'll see what we can get going.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yeah, what's the outlook on your team, coach? Well, you think,
I know, it all goes into the Area tournament and
those three teams you play, you know in February late dec.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
I love I love our team, I really do. I
love this group. Got a lot of seniors. Guys compete,
They just they love to compete, and it's gonna be
rondest with you. Their their fun to coach.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
You know, we can tell play.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
You know, Glenwood, Davill, Euler, it'll all be tough. Going
to Glenn will be tough. Dussey does a good job
over there. And then you know, if we're fortunate enough
to get out of our area, our region, you know,
it's the same old song and dance. Our region is,
you know, really tough. It's got Us and Midfield and
Kildersburg and Montgomery Academy really good. Hell County is really

(08:39):
really good. Montgomery Academy is really really good.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
So Bill, Bill war Well, it will be all right.
Anything else you want to bring up, coach when.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Looking looking forward to it, and just thank.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
You all for having a song always man seven and
two on a year, great start. I enjoyed the game
at Auburn even though you lost, and enjoyed watching a
little basketball. Hopefully I can get back over there and
