Speaker 6 (01:34):
It was a nice long weekend and you know it
was just great love celebrating Independence Day. One of Todd's
favorite things to say is I stopped caring about the
Crown in seventeen seventy six, and we really lived that
up this weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
You know what we have beautiful he has stopped caring
about it. I love that beautiful show.

Speaker 6 (02:01):
That was his response when I tried to get him
to watch The Crown, the TV show about the royal family,
and he was like, no, I stopped caring about them
in seventeen seventies.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
That's about That's a good He is as American as
they come.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
It was a good weekend. It was good fireworks show.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
And it was great. Yeah, it was really great.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
So there you go.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
I'm glad you were great. Crowd, lots of lots of
happy people.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Oh there was a.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Huge crowd at OPLAG and a huge crowd at Auburn.
I happened to go back to back with my grandkids
and the first time I've done that in a while.
And hey, I love our two Cities fireworks show.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
Yeah, that was.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Phenomenal because it didn't cost me a penny.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
That's right, free entertainment.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Free, free, free. All right, what's going on with the
Chamber of.

Speaker 6 (02:39):
Commerce that Well, you know, we actually have a pretty
slow week. All we have this week is Thursdage Light tenth.
Our Bubbles Party Co is having a business after hours
with both the Auburn Chamber and the Oplaca Chamber. So
they're located at Midtown in Auburn, and they've got a
really great activity plan. They're going to have bounce houses,
they're going to have activity for the family, but then

(03:01):
of course they're still going to have lots of great
snacks and cocktails for the adults. And it's a really
great opportunity for you to just network and meet other
people and learn more about Bubbles Party Co.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Okay, Bubbles Party co I've never heard of that.

Speaker 6 (03:16):
Yeah, they so they actually we work with them on
all of our balloon art when we do you know,
a balloon.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Arch for oh yeah, you know, our.

Speaker 6 (03:27):
Grand opening and things like that. They do things like that, Okay,
all kinds of party supply activities, things like that. So
they do great work and we're really excited to celebrate
with them this Thursday.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
And then as you look ahead to.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
Next week, we have a Hilton Groundbreaking Ceremony Live Smart
by Hilton Groundbreaking Ceremony on July seventeenth at ten am,
and then next Friday, July eighteenth is Food Truck Friday.
So really we're kind of we're in a stage right
now at the Chamber where we're doing a lot of planning,
behind the scenes work, so we're still very busy, but

(04:02):
we're just not out and about doing a bunch of events.
So that keeps our, keeps our timeline, or gives us
more time at our desks to kind of catch up
on things. But we are pretty excited. July is the
last month of maximum savings for our Switzerland trip. So
if you recall the upla like a chamber is taking
a group of travelers to Switzerland in twenty twenty six

(04:26):
so whether you want to see it's going to be
in April.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
Departure date is April twentieth.

Speaker 6 (04:31):
You'll return on April twenty sixth, and so it's a
shorter trip, but it is a bucket list trip. Whether
you want to see the Swiss Alps, we go to Lucerne.
There's just it's absolutely incredible. This itinerary. You can learn
more at Oplaca Chamber dot com and just click on
travel with the Chamber.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
So we're really excited about that. And July thirty first.

Speaker 6 (04:50):
Will be the last day to get the maximum discount
of i think three hundred dollars off per person. And
then we're also selling or book now booking for our.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
Christmas trip.

Speaker 6 (05:02):
So in December, we will be taking a group to
New York City. So whether you want to see the
Rockets or Rockefeller Center, it checks off all of the
all of the things on your New York City Christmas
bucket list. And so we're also booking for travelers for
that trip as well. Whether you're a family, you know,
I've heard I've seen some grandmothers and grandkids wanting to

(05:24):
go just the two of them, couple solo trips if
you've If you've never done New York City and I've
never done New York City at Christmas, it's a really
great opportunity to experience it. And so we're really excited
to be booking both Switzerland in twenty twenty six and
New York City and December of twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Right now, I like that, and you have a huge
event for the city of Oblock coming up on the
twelve Conversations with Your Candidates.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
That's right.

Speaker 6 (05:48):
We are very excited to be hosting. We're partnering with
the League of Women Voters. Let's see, I think we've
got a couple other sponsors of the event as well.
But we will be host seeing Conversations with your candidates
at like a performing arts center, which is at oplake
a High school, and so it will start with all
the candidates will have their own table to set up,

(06:09):
and so you can kind of come in and go
reception style, talk to your specific candidate of choice, whether
whoever you're trying to learn from, maybe ask some of
your own individual questions directly there before the actual forum starts.
And then when the forum starts, each candidate will have
four minutes to prepare or to share their remarks about

(06:31):
why you should support them, and that's it.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
That's its.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
There will not be any public Q and A. I don't.

Speaker 6 (06:38):
I don't believe. Actually I can't. I have to tell
I have to be very honest. I am not involved
in the planning of this in any way, shape or form.
My vice president, Mackenzie Pool, she's the point person for this,
and she's got a committee that's planned it. So I
vaguely know what's happening. That's about the maximum that I know.
There might be some questions that the mayoral candidates get asked,

(06:59):
but I don't For some reason, I don't think so.
I think what is happening is that there's a way
that you can submit your questions, and we will be
providing the candidates with those questions in advance, so that
if they want to address any of those questions in
their remarks they can.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
But if you have.

Speaker 6 (07:15):
Questions, you're going to be able to ask those before
they go on stage for the forum, and.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
We hope to have that on radio. We do.

Speaker 6 (07:20):
We hope to have that aired on the radio with
iHeart and to make sure the maximum number of people
can hear from all of our candidates.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
I think it's good, it's a great it's a big choice.

Speaker 6 (07:28):
August twenty sixth, and so it's important to get educated
and make the decision that you think is best for
opal Eka.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
I'm glad you say that because this is the first
time that we have not voted with.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
It in a year that a presidential year.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, because they changed governor. And I don't blame her
for changing that law. I think that's a good law.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
Yeah, it's.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
You You get more intentional voting this way. The people
that come care for a reason about voting, They care
about showing up, and so voter turnouts really really important.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
And you know we've had you know, we've.

Speaker 6 (08:03):
Had our current administration for twenty years and so point
this is a very monumental moment for Opalaika that you know,
the trajectory of where we're going moving forward is going
to be impacted by this, not only the mayor mayor
that gets elected, but all of the city council.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
There you go, Now are we looking at is twenty
It's the last Tuesday of the month, right.

Speaker 6 (08:26):
All last Tuesday of the month. August twenty sixth, is
election day. Just to put a few key election times
out there. If you are moving into the area or
maybe you just bought a house, you have until July
twenty seventh to establish residency and so.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
And what that means is you.

Speaker 6 (08:43):
Need to go get your license with your new address
on it to make sure you're voting in the right place.
And then I think the last day to register to
vote is August eleventh.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Good deal.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
So mad you put all that in there.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
What about key voting, absentee voteing. Gosh, if you go.

Speaker 6 (09:03):
To Opelika, dash Al dot gov and click on election information,
it's got all of the dates.

Speaker 5 (09:07):
I probably have it in my calendar. Yeah, it's it's
definitely it's in August.

Speaker 6 (09:14):
It's in August, and you know, any of your candidates
or the city clerk at Obelika will be able to
answer that and also get you that absentee application.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Good deal. Anything else you'd like to bring up, miss Ally.

Speaker 6 (09:28):
Just want to encourage anybody if you know, say we've
got it's still summer and you've got the kids at
home and you're like, what in the world am I
going to do today?

Speaker 3 (09:36):
