Speaker 1 (00:00):
Another beautiful day. Well man, congratulations on the big win
Friday night. Coach, I got you boys into the third round,
Send me final round. That was a huge victory.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah, it was a good win. You know, played probably
our best, which is exciting that we're that we're playing better,
you know, a testament to our players for you know,
the response to some tough weeks you know, abut of
months ago, and uh, to stay connected, to stay together.
Uh So, just just excited to have another opportunity, uh,
(00:32):
continue to represent our city.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yeah, you guys dominated that game pretty well, Coach, start
to finished. You did a super job and get them
I never really felt like they were in the ball again.
I know it was you know what I mean, But
I felt like your team making prow to the game.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah, I did too. Uh, you know, I hated that
we couldn't push it out, you know earlier, you know,
we had some opportunities to do so, you know, and
and ultimately though came out in the second half. You know,
we really have not led a whole lot at halftime.
We've talked about the slow starts, and you know, we
certainly started better, but we were up you know, one
(01:09):
possession of halftime, and then in the third quarter, really
had a couple of explosive plays. Good to see you know,
some some you know trick stuff go well to kind
of you know, push the lead out in two scores,
and then a great grow from from with the jail
in Washington on the post to put us up by
three scores. H and just really good to see us,
(01:30):
you know, get some other people involved and have some ballot.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Oh, no doubt about it. I thought your defensive line
put a lot of pressure on the quarterback. Coach. I
thought that was a big part of your defense being
able to move their offensive line.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah. I mean, you know, the goal in those games,
especially when you play a quarterback as good as as
that kid is, you know, being able to affect him
but also take his run game away. You know, teams
like that are really really good when they're balanced. And
as we saw leading into the game in our out,
they were like fifty to fifty run the pass almost
exactly on the nose, and you know that meant that
(02:06):
they had, you know, explosive playmakers in the backfill, which
Zero was certainly that for them. But by really containing
him and limiting his big plays, you know, it put
him in some third and longs and and we're ever
to get after him with some package stuff and bring
some pressures and that. You know, it's a lot of
fun for our d line to be able to do that.
But they did a great job, you know, Money, Thomas, Carson, Riddle,
(02:30):
you know, Josh Davis, all three of our defensive ends.
Really good to see our linebackers played well. So again,
you know, sort of peeking at the right time and hopefully,
you know what, you continue to grow and improve, you know,
because we'll have to this week.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, you're speaking of this week Auburn High coach, Here
we are. This is the team you played at Bulldog Stadium.
You got them over there. This is the one first
meeting between ok in Auburn the games at Duck Sanford.
Over six thousand tickets were sold in a couple of hours.
It doesn't get any better than this. Is this you
play for the championship, coach.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, it's it's a great opportunity, you know, we're we're
excited about that, you know, and we're excited about it,
you know, having another opportunity to play them. But the
messaging this week's been about us, I know, coaches say that,
but you know, we're we're we cannot afford to look
up and and and you know, play the game, you know,
as far as you know the anxiety piece, and you
(03:26):
know us you know, seeing the totality of this game.
You know, I've had people ask me about this the
biggest game in the history of the two teams and
all kind of stuff. This is just the next game
for the twenty twenty five Bulldogs in my opinion. Obviously
it means the tons to a lot of people, and
I'd be lying to stay it didn't mean you know,
everything to us as well. But ultimately, in order to
(03:46):
get our kids in a good spot mentally, you know,
it's it's got to be about just playing our best
and taking it play to play, and uh, and we've
embraced that. We talked a lot about being where our
feet are, you know, not being you know, too emotional
too early in the week, and you know, not thinking ahead,
you know, to them, but instead thinking about Tuesday morning,
thinking about the lift we have this morning, thinking about
(04:08):
the heavy workday that we have a lot of competition
in practice, and just being able to sharpen each other.
So I've been really proud of our kids and the
way they've embraced that. I think they understand. And frankly,
d Mark, I think we've made mistakes in the past
about doing too much. You know, I told you know, everybody.
I appreciate all the people that are willing to help
(04:28):
and want to get involved. But you know, routine is good.
Routine for sixteen year old boys is really really important.
And I'm thankful that you know, really there's nothing extra
this week and we can focus on the football game.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Okay, Brian Moore was us so like a Bulldog football coach.
Dogs going to the semi final round against Auburn at
Duck Safford. Head coach, you playing with a whole different
quarterback than the last time you played Auburn. A lot
of things have changed for both teams.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Absolutely. You know, you look back on that game and
you know, the last time de mart we did this
in twenty twelve. I believe we played him in like
week eight or nine, you know, in the regular season.
I think it was a later game and then therefore
the turnaround was fairly quick. But now this this was
game three, in game thirteen. I mean, he's talking three
(05:16):
months of separation, and a lot of things change. I
mean a lot of personnel changes, obviously. You know, the
biggest change for us is the quarterback. You know, obviously
with he did not take a snap in the first game,
and you know, for him to be getting so much
better and really play his best game last week, he
(05:38):
is exciting to see. You know, We're still not going
to ask too much of him, but he is going
to have to make plays. I mean to think that
you know, you can line up and just run over them,
That's not going to happen. They've got a really really
good football team, great defensive coordinator. We know so much information.
It's gonna require, you know, some ballots, and we're gonna
have to be able to hit some of the plays
(05:58):
that like we hit against Bakers, some of the explosives,
and uh, we've got to pick our spots and be
smart and play to our strengths obviously, but it will
require our best players to step up and play their
best and uh, I know that's cliche, but they aren't
going to have to make plays in the game. And uh,
as usual, you got to feel, like as it has
over the past several years, this game comes down to
(06:19):
the end and and frankly they've made the plays. You know,
the last two years the game has ended sort of
the same way, with us having a chance to tire
or win the game and not finishing. And uh, you
know that's the messaging. You know, how do we you know,
do we step up and make plays in those biggest moments?
And so you're right, a lot has changed a lot
of personnel, different teams. They're peaking as well. I mean,
(06:42):
you look back at their last month the football, starting
with the Carver game, they've played extremely well. I mean
the quarterback is playing at a high level. He's got
really really elite skill. Uh. They found a run game
with two and zero. And you know, just like always,
coach Ethrids is going to have his team ready to go.
They're really well coached, and then it'll be a you know,
(07:03):
it'll be a challenge, uh, you know, to play and
to raise our level to where.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
It needs to be. What about your practice yesterday, coach,
you had one day of practice. How did it go
and how do you forecast the rest of the week.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Yeah, I thought, I thought really well. I mean, obviously
the weather is perfect. I mean that you know, last Monday,
if you all remember it was freezing cold and you know,
we it was you know, like a less degree. Uh
it was windy and rough and you know, we went
through it and we had to deal with that. But
obviously rolling out there in shorts fleas yesterday was was
a was a big change and a and a real
(07:37):
you know, uplifting uh Monday. So you know, I think
our kids are ready. I mean I think, you know,
like I said, we're just not changing a whole lot.
We're probably still you know, being you know, more physical
than most at practice. I just think because of our
team and the youth, and we've got to continue to
do what goide us here. And uh so I thought
it was a really good day. I expect this afternoon
(07:57):
to be good. You know, our tuesdays to do pretty
long and they're very competitive, a lot of a lot
of good verse good in there with certain situations and
different things that we're operating through. So we'll meet a
good day and then a good morning Wednesday and Thursday,
and then you know, we'll have to operate the right
way Friday through the day. And again the key to
the whole thing is controlling emotions and stay and staying
(08:19):
very uh you know, present in the moment and being
able to handle all the external factors that surround the game.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Like this, very good point one on the factor coach.
It wasn't it wasn't slowed out. But there was a
huge crowd the other night. The guys, as you will,
they they really got into the game. I'm proud of that.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yeah. I thought I thought that was a that was
an uplifting thing, you know, to come out, you know,
out of the out of the indoor and come down
those steps, you know, and it'd be blacked out, and
you know, because it was more than just a fan
you know, an atmosphere, it was our messaging as well,
you know, playing for the red and black, you know,
playing for our people, representing our city and our families.
(08:55):
You know, I think that was sort of the messages
we you know, went through last week, and that message
will stay relative the same this week. You know, we
still want to wear black, and we still want to
you know, be us and you know again put those
blinders up and look through the O and not worry
about those external things. But I was very appreciative and
grateful for our city, uh for for really you know,
having a great crowd and one that was very much
(09:17):
involved in the game and impacted the game.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Coach, good job, great week. The rest of you, keep
up the good work. We'll look forward to seeing tomorrow
at Mose Barbecue.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
All right, all right, looking forward to it. Mark, Thank you, go.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Dog go dogs. Thank you for taking time to be
with us. That's Brian Moore, the ope like a bulldog
head football coach. That excuse me. That interviews brought to
