Speaker 1 (00:00):
Look Black of Bulldogs finished up their season last Wednesday
(00:02):
night in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Super seven
Championship as they took on Thompson. The head coach of
them Dogs is Brian Moore. He is live on the
Hamilton's Hotline Coach More, good morning, Congratulations on an incredible season,
my friend.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Well, thank you de Mark. You know, obviously wish we
could have finished better, but proud of our kids. Proud
of you know, the way that they turned it on.
You know really from Carver through the Super seven game.
You know a lot of growth that took place back
half of that season and won some you know, some
huge games and you know, I you know, I'm sure
(00:38):
made our city proud and and a lot of our
families proud, and of course our schools. So really proud
of our kids and thankful for all the hard work.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah. I don't know if you peeked around your shoulder,
I keep saying Friday, Wednesday night, but you had a
whole lot of old black of people behind your back,
coach pulling for you.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Same you know, same thing for the dog walk. You
know a lot of people there and people there early
and you know, sell and a lot of people came
to the table, you know, leading up to the state
championship game, you know, to feed us and take care
of our kids and provide an experience. So I you know,
obviously I knew that they would be there. I knew
that they would travel to few trustful. I knew that
they would buy tickets thoroughly for the Auburn game. I
(01:16):
knew the Baker game at Hall would be packed out.
And then obviously I knew that our people would be
in Birmingham to see us play. So just can't thank
them enough and thankful for the support here.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, what'd you think of the game? Coach? It was
tough one.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, I mean, you know, as the gap we got
to We've got a long way to go, you know,
to close the gap with them. I mean there's a
reason they've been in h straight, the reason that you know,
Coach Freeman, the Hall of Fame coach, and you know,
the program is just ahead of everybody else's right now, honestly,
And so you know what was cool though, you know,
if there is a silver lining here, you know, our
(01:51):
goal is to win that thing. It's not just to
go So we've got to you know, be able to
take a look inside and see, you know, what they
look like and what it needs look like for our program.
And I think, you know, I think there's a lot
of room for development and growth. I mean, you know, obviously, Uh,
they've got a really good team. They had seven or
eight guys sign you know, early signing day, you know,
(02:12):
several SCC guys and honestly, you know, if you're gonna
get on that stage and compete, you know, the times
that we've been you know, we've had we've had some
of those guys too, and so you know, this this
senior class, I would say, you know, obviously was a
connected group that you know, guide us to this point.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
And now it's in and they laid up a legacy
and foundation for what it needs to look like. And
it's our rising seniors and and and lower you know
class guys that need to that need to see how
to you know, close that gap and step up. And
we've got to help them do it. But without seeing it,
without going and playing them, it's really hard to understand,
you know. But for us to go and and you know,
(02:52):
again go through the gauntlet of the playoffs in our
region obviously was a special year.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, I think that tells him a lot. To coach,
you ain't ever out. It's never over Truck and your team.
Your team, you know, kept going through that adversity. I
mean it just uh and and everything.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Early on in the game, coach hit them too field goals.
I thought, okay, you know what I mean, we got
them six, it could be fourteen.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
I was, you know, yeah, yeah, there were some there
were some moments. I mean, you know that we're good,
you know, but but the second quarter got away from us.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
I was disappointed in that. You know, I will say,
you know, they're better than we are right now, but
I don't know that it's that much, you know, I
think I didn't think we played very well. We had
three turnovers in the game. Yeah, you know, all of
that had to go like perfect, you know. And you
know you can't say that to your kids, and you
don't want them to think that way or you know,
(03:43):
believe that they have to play that way to be successful.
But it was true. I mean, you know, for us
to have a chance, we needed a little help, you know,
some breaks from them. Uh. And they didn't do that.
They showed why they are who they are and you
know why they've been there, and you know, the quarterback
being there four times. I mean obviously everybody in the
stadium could see how special he is. He's got some
(04:04):
talented receivers around him, you know, as well as some
good running backs, you know, and like I said, coach
Freeman just does a great job. He balances the ball,
puts it where it needs to be. A lot of
guys for them had touches and then defensively, my goodness,
I mean their front and you know, box and all
was it was incredible. Uh the dbs, you know, like
for all four of them are like SUC guys on
(04:25):
the back and uh you know number five and three
and zero, those guys made plays in the game. So again,
you know, we've got a long way to go. And
I will say this, Deve Mark, I do think we're
head of schedule. Well where we are, you know, I thought,
you know, just say two years ago, that we would
be playing for the state championship in seven A. I
think would be a stretch, you know, and even for me,
(04:47):
you know, and the belief that that we have and
you know, in our coaching staff and in our kids,
but you know, our kids found a way to get there,
and that experience going forward is extremely valuable for our
program and our schools. So again it was it was
an incredible year. Extremely proud of our players. We'll have
a banquet next Monday, and I'm gonna announce all that
(05:09):
stuff starting now and for our parents and everything. We
originally had it scheduled for today and I was like
it might be a little thing for a banquet. Let
me let me have a week to breed and kind of,
you know, my focus will turn to recruiting, you know,
for our for our seniors to We've got you know, C. J.
Johnson has a you know, firm offer and we're hunting
(05:30):
for shoot seven or eight more. You know, last year
we signed nine guys, which was the which was the
record or tied for the record in Oplea, like a history,
and we hope we can get there again. You know,
it's our job to find a place for our kids
and and if that's not college football, find a place
for them in the workforce or at school or in
the military. And so we're hoping to send our twenty
(05:51):
seven seniors out the right way. And really that starts
this morning in my my work and our staff work
to get them somewhere to land.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
That's awesome. Now what do you do do you kids?
In you claud what do you do? Were you a
football team coach from here on forward?
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Uh? Shoot, we left this morning. We're back in the
weight room today. Uh so we'll be dressed in red shirts,
black shorts, white socks, and white turf shoes. Uh we'll
be sitting there waiting for Kave McGee to deliver the
message this morning, and you know, and ready to make
our football team even better, you know, going forward to
(06:25):
lift hard. You know, we had one hundred and thirty
six lifts de Mark last year's through December second of
December second, we had one hundred and thirty six lifts
last year and uh so that's that's quite a bit.
And you know this is left one for the twenty
twenty sixth season and off we go. But again, I
you know, one thing that I've always heard and really
tried to make sure I was cognizant of is you
(06:48):
know again, these seniors that are leaving are not forgotten.
You know, I think sometime you know, when you're as
a coach, and I'm guilty of it too. You know,
your job is to get the next group ready, but
you can't forget the previous group. And for us, we're
going to celebrate those guys and their success, and then
we're gonna, like I said, find them a place to go,
a concrete plan for the future, you know, and be
(07:10):
there with them every step of the way. And you know,
just like I tell him, you know, he's just like
you know, after the my hundred win or whatever, you know,
what was more important than that. The number was just
the number, but what was more important was the phone
calls and the videos and those things, you know, to
talk about the relationships that you have. And this is
another group in that, a group that you know I'll stay.
(07:32):
I mean, Tyler Moore was in my office Friday afternoon
spend an hour with me, you know, And that's what
it's about. It's about long lasting relationships and and just
how we stay connected through their lives. I mean, so
many of those kids. I mean, one of our former
players was in the box with his new baby, you know,
and he's from Ufau that he didn't have a single
you know, connection with opal like except me and my family,
(07:55):
you know, and so he was there and so many
of our former ones, guys from Hartzeil, from Jasper, from
you follow they were there at that game Wednesday, and
that's what it's about. It's about, you know, connection with
those guys and relationships forever. So again we're gonna we're
gonna see those guys out the right way that this
class and then you know again we'll we'll focus, you know,
on lifting and getting this next creuit ready for twenty
(08:17):
twenty six.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
There you go, well, coach, great year. It was a
great fun ride.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
U City of Pla like that.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
You certainly put them on. You and your team did
a super job of giving people some joy this fall,
and you've done a tremendous job of the last two seasons.
As I wrote, as you saw, I appreciate that. I
meant that, and I'm really thrilled at Yeah, I'm really
thrilled of the way the program's going and the way
you've mantled it. Coach. I I'm just I'm elated and
I'm proud for you.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Well, I appreciate. I appreciate the kind words too, But
you know, there's you know, a dozen you know, coaches,
varsity coaches that have a lot to do with it,
and like I said, this is a special senior class.
I mean it's a group that really the underdog mentality.
You know, when you lose eighteen out of twenty two
starters a year ago, ten of eleven on defense, you
lose your quarter back, you know, you sort of have
(09:01):
three different kids that start at Q. You know, it
was uh, you know that this senior group had every
reason to just say, man, you know that that you know,
it's good enough. You know, last year's group put us
back on the map. We're good. But they made a
decision against Carver to to change you know, the narrative
of this class and then ultimately rode that momentum all
the way in super stubven. So again, Craig ghost our
(09:25):
families and their moms and dads for how they raised them,
and just couldn't be more proud of a group a man.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Merry Christmas, coach, Thank you, buddy, We love you, Thank you.
Thanks Merry Christmas, and take care Bright
