Speaker 1 (00:00):
Outline for another interview.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Hamilton's has two locations to serve you on Magnolia and
Ogle Tree, and we're glad to have Hamilton's as a sponsor.
We are going to North Alabama to bring in the
interim head coach of Kousa Central and an old friend
of mine, coach Rush Pros.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Good morning, coach, how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Good morning? Born? And Mark?

Speaker 1 (00:19):
How are you this more man? I'm doing good? Coach
you on Cloud nine this morning? Coach? You back at it?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Back at it? I guess you calling back at it.
But yeah, we we played today, so up and down
a head. So we're getting started tonight.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Oh you got your first gamers this u jemburee Jeuary. Ok. Okay, Well,
how long have you been telling me, coach? How long
have you been working with a team? Give me a
little feel in.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Well, I'll be a few weeks. I mean, you know,
as far as we started them in twenty eight and
I was just tamping out as a consultant. And then uh,
when all this went down, you know, we just got
into it. You know, they wanted me to do it,
and I told him I'd do it for four months

(01:09):
and uh, and that's really you know the whole deal.
I'm just I'm just heaving it out because when the
kids are you know, when they took him up at
restricted probation, they need somebody that they would do it.
And I've tore U been around the kids off with
an over the last few years anyway, just order you

(01:29):
a lot of them. So I just thought, look, I'll
do it for thanks, say, in the four months, and
then we'll see at the end of the year. You
know how it goes after that.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
So now O'Brien, he had coached O'Brien has your's your team? Now, yes,
he cannot have any contact, right, this is your program, right, that's.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Right, he can he cannot have any content with coaches,
players being practiced, ring and it. It's just there's no questions.
You know, he has been completely isolated from the situation.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
But this did allow the kids to compete, and they're
supposed to have a pretty good well. They had a
lot of you know, positive things coming back, didn't they coach?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
They did, Mark. But you know the thing about it
is certain things been a little bit of a cloud.
Not a little bit of cloud, but a big cloud,
don't you know. They they lost they lost really good
football players last year, and so there's really nobody didn't
replace any of those kids. Nobody moved in and all

(02:30):
that stuff. They're you know, really we're really thin. We're
dangerously what I call dangerously thin. Really. Oh yeah, there's
only twenty varsia wise, probably ten eleven and twelve. There's
probably only about twenty one twenty two kids.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Wow wow, yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah, and they're they're going until about thirteen or fourteen, seventh,
eighth and night. So the ranks are thin. I just
think that secuating happened to them when the last couple
of years things have happened, and I think, you know,
people you know, they were you know, they want to
play football, but they also want to have a chance

(03:11):
to be in the playoffs. Yes, yep, But anyway, I
think at the end of the day, I'm just I'm
blessed to be given this opportunity, and uh, we're glad
to do it. Like I said, I'm you know, I
came over here in twenty two. It happened a little
bit right when my son was a senior.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
I'm not right.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Then I went in Pili Stadium, you know, I was
in twenty three, and then last year I came over
one week. It was over here last year for the
five game and sort of hung out that week in
practice and and you know, I've come periodically, you know,
but but nothing on an official capacity or or anything

(03:54):
like that. But but I do I didn't sort of
you know, you sort of give these kids, and it's
hard to turn the back and turn your back on them.
I wasn't gonna do that, right.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Was it their idea to come to you, coach? It
was a kind of a mutual deal to get to
get you to step in.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Uh well, a little bit of both probably, But I
mean I was there. It helps out. And you know
when a d sit down and asked me, you know,
we would you do it? And you know, I said, yeah,
I'll do it, you know, but I'm you know, just
short term, like I said, I'm working for four months.
And then after that, of course, just didn't Mark, you know,

(04:37):
and Mark comes off suspension at the end of the
season and and then we'll see, you know, but I'll
but I'll hang around. I mean I'll be around. And
I lived here in gadding and so it's not like
at the end of four months and I like I'm
just never going.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Back over right, they ain't gonna punch your ticket.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
All the.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Coach rush prost with us. He's on rounds the outline.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
We're talking about his new job in coach cosa Christian
up in the North Alabama, I guess, and Gaston Areas
where it's located, and talking about the team. You yeah,
you open up with Pierce County, Georgia, and you got
a small group.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Are you bringing those seventh eighth graders up? Coach?

Speaker 3 (05:15):
You know, I'm not. I'm not. They're not on travel
of peers. I'm not. Okay, got some night, but we're
you know, we're just gonna take the one they will play,
And like I said, we're probably dress for twenty his
first time I can't remember, but I know it is
the first time I've never done this. We're traveling next
week on passenger vans. Wow, wow, you know, so two

(05:37):
fifteen passenger van and things. But we're taking a pier.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
That's a new deal for you, coach, that's a.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
New deal man. So, but but you don't care about
that many kids and says and getting to make sure
of us.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Yeah, now I'm gonna bring this up, y'all.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Got Pale City, blunt coach, this is a heck of
a schedule.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
To be a two day school.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Right, yeah, when we're one, ain't number wise we're only
two eight competents.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Oh that's right, that's right. This is a tough scheduing.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Coach pros is.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
We got Touchcludes Academy at Tennity here, that's right place.
So so we've got four, you know, four really tough
non ragion games in cort region. Uh play Southeast and
and and our toughness ringing opponents. Me Mark is our
thirty one. I mean it's our third game, which is
Southeastern as far as in the region. They got to

(06:31):
get football team and we played them. We got to
play pal Steam. So it's Pierce Peal seen in the
Southeastern right off the bat. And it's going to be
a difficult task. Say the list, Are.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
You fired up? Are you ready to go? Coach?

Speaker 2 (06:44):
You fill up to the task you're doing? Okay, I
didn't even ask you that.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah, yeah, I'm really good. I mean I kept himself
in good shade, Mark and you know, exercise and it's
good heat, right and all those kinds of things. So
you know, I feel I mean energized. I've been bored
a little bit anyway, you know. And you know, and

(07:08):
this may this mark, this may do something to me
that it may bee maybe I'm going to get back
and coaching full time. You know.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Maybe I'm not. Maybe I'm not done. And so man,
I will throw opportunities next year in Georgia and Alabama
and see where the Good Lord leeds men. If he
sees it fit me to coach again after the season,
then I will definitely entertain it. Well, I'm not, you know,
And I told them I'm doing this for no pay.

(07:40):
I didn't know that four month one dollar a month
about the yeah, and so I just I didn't want
it to be about pay and all that kind of stuff.
So I told him I didn't do it free and
more basingly free and for that period of time. And
you know, just use you're served, you're served. I mean,

(08:02):
you know, the Lord calls you to do something, and
that's what That's what I'm doing. To be honest with you,
I just want to help his young men and give
him an opportunity to get in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
You know what you did, coach, You took that restricted
you were out, they got the restricted approbation lifted. You're
the coach down. And you know what, I'm proud to
school gave you another chance. We've been friends a long time, coach,
and I told you the other day, I was really
proud you got another chance.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Is nothing wrong? That's what the Good Book says we're
supposed to do forgive.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Yep, that's exactly right. And I just think I think
it's not. I don't think it's just happened. The Good
Lord got a hand in this. And and I really
truly believe this. And plus there's some good people here
and and I'm just understading blessed them that they allowed

(08:49):
me to do this.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Good for you. How's your wife doing? She good in
the family?

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Oh yeah, everybody's good, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah. Got
any grandson in the family, so he's me five months
next week.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
And then I got two granddaughters in in South Georgia
that I don't get to see en up, but they're
they're darling, and so got a super steve and I
haven't got seven children, and we we've been blessed with
our family. Man, it's been it's been really good, been
really good.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Good deal.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Let me tell you something. I appreciate you taking time
to call me. I know you've got a lot going on.
It means a lot, buddy. I'm glad you're back into coaching.
Best to you and acousta Christian coach for us. Thank
you very much.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
