Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we begin every service, We begin every day just
as we began our life and him at the baptismal
font in the name of the Father and of the Son.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
And of the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
And that is who you are.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
That's who all of you are.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
Good morning and welcome to Peace to you from Peace
Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colorado. Today, Pastor Guy and I
are going to talk a little bit about some exciting
changes that we've talked about here for a couple of weeks,
but we just want to explain it a little bit
more for you. And that's our and that's our podcast,
and Pastor Guy, this is an exciting time for us.

(00:50):
We're going to be able to reach so many more
people for Christ and I'm personally excited about it, and
I know you are too, And maybe you can just
explain a little bit more about how we're going to
reach shot and where these folks can find our program.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, thanks, Kent.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
As far as I understand, I've been here for a
little less than a year, and Peace has a long
heritage of radio ministry.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
How long has that gone back, Kent.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Gosh, I'd say fifteen years, fifteen minimum.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, and a pretty large audience over the years.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yes, yeah, we pulled. We were pulling about eight thousand.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, and when I when I got here, they were
broadcasting in Utah and here in Denver. Yes, but some
of some things had changed over the years. We had
a pretty nice slot and on a good on a
pretty well known radio station. And over the years we
kind of got drawn back in that into right not
as not as prime time and like five in the
morning and and on kind of more of an off

(01:45):
radio station. But the cost, you know, stayed the same,
and and so and the audience had had dropped, and
and so as we reviewed this mystery, we just thought,
you know, how, how is it what what can we
take advantage of here to broad the audience to reach
more people with the Gospel of Christ. And so we've
kind of moved forward with this plan, which is to

(02:07):
take this broadcast and be able to broaden it beyond
just the format we've used for radio twenty seven minutes,
you know, radio show, to be able to have the
equipment and the option to bring guest speakers in, to
bring you know, have topical conversations, to continue to do
peace to you as far as talking about the sermon.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
But not be limited.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
If the conversation is good and we want to talk more,
we can and then to be able to cast, you know,
spread that out amongst a lot more people. And the
ways people are consuming you know, the ways that most
of people are consuming their media these days, well.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
You know, and I'm personally really excited about it because
a lot of times we have guest speakers, these missionaries
from all over the world, and they come in, but
when it comes time to do the radio program, they're
back to wherever they were coming from. You know, we
don't get that opportunity to really delve into what they're
doing and why they're doing and how they're doing it,
and their successes and things like that. And now we're

(03:04):
going to have that opportunity to talk to some folks
and bring in these extra people around here that work
at the church that you don't necessarily get a chance
to talk to, are hear from and you know, our
ministry to children, our children's ministry and all those types
of things in our school, to talk to the director
and do those things. I'm just really looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah, it's going to be exciting, and you know, some
of the things you may have heard this, uh, this
we have are our piece to you, and this ministry
will be kind of in attditional places.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
It will be on our website. You can access that
still through.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
SoundCloud cloud, and then we also have it linked to
our weekly email. So if if you want to have
a link to that and listen to the previous week sermon,
you can go ahead.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
And if you're not already, called.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
The church office and we'll get you signed up for
that list and distribution list. And then also it'll be
weekly kind of posted to places you might be more
familiar with, like YouTube, and we're exploring Facebook, and it
will continue to be on SoundCloud and Spotify, Podbean, Amazon Music, Audible, Podchaser, iHeartRadio,

(04:11):
which it's currently on now Player fm and more, and
we're waiting for we're kind of waiting to get confirmation
that will be on Apple Podcast. But this move will
allow us again to broaden our ministry and to cover
those topics and the like. So and just one last thing,
if you're of an older generation and you have no
idea what we're talking about, but you really kind of

(04:32):
come to rely on this ministry, please please do not
hesitate to reach out. We have the ability to literally
burn CDs that we can send to you and you
can listen to them. We're more than glad to do.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
That absolutely, you know. And I know a lot of
people are familiar with Thepeaslutheran dot net, and that's another
area where they're going to be able to.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Access this right there on our website.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
So yeah, right, so yes, if you if you're like
me and I'm somewhat hampered with some the technology and
things like that, you know, please please give us a
call and because we want you to have that opportunity
like you always have through the radio, but now you
can do it at any given time and at your convenience,

(05:14):
not at six thirty in the morning.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
So, you know, one of the things for all of
you who are listening out there and have been associated
or have been benefiting from the Ministries of Peace for
years or however long, it's been one of the things
that I have experienced here is just being incredibly impressed
with this congregation and their desire to reach people with
the gospel and to care for people. And this ministry

(05:37):
has been no exception, and I'm excited to see where
we lead. In fact, that is the topic of the
sermon today is just to follow the lead of Paul,
who begins his letter really impressed with the Church of Philippi.
And so what you'll hear in a message today is
that as impressed as I am with this ministry, with
this church, with the people here and their love for

(05:57):
the Lord, I'm just incredibly pressed by God's faithfulness through
the years.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
And so today I.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Enjoy the sermon, and if there's any time left, we'll
be back to talk about it.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
After well, Pastor Guy has time for our sermon now
and we're just really looking forward to it. So folks,
I will want you to listen in listen to everything
Pastor Guy has to say to you today. And without
going on any further, here's Pastor Guy.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
How many have you ever heard this before? Grace, peace
and mercy to you from our God and Father. Anyone
heard something like this before? Where have you typically heard this.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
In church?

Speaker 1 (06:36):
What part of the service when the pastor starts right now?
You haven't heard that from me? I do it tof
I start with word of prayer always contrary, and I guess,
but if you've been a Lutheran for any amount of time,
especially in other churches, that's how they start Grace and
peace to you from.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
God our Father.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
And I don't know where that came from as far
as starting as the beginning of a sermon, but we
certainly know where it comes from. It comes from Philippians
chapter one. It's how Paul starts his letter to the
Church of Filippy, where he says two of them, grace
to you and peace from God our Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ. And that is the way he begins

(07:16):
this letter. This letter, this section of scripture that we
read today is one that's in our lectionary. It's one
that comes up every year, and it's one I've never
preached on. It's not a passage that I preach on.
In fact, I know I'm not alone in this. As
I talked to other pastors, they too gravitate towards the
other ones. And when I went and checked out the seminary,
they didn't have very many examples, only one actual sermon

(07:39):
where someone choose to take it on. And I cited,
with all my extra energy, with all the things that
the Lord is giving me, I was gonna challenge myself
and preach on this text today, and so I did.
I laid it out and I was starting to read
through it, and I was like, oh man, there's a
reason why people don't preach on this because it is
basically a greeting to a letter. And while it is

(08:00):
the words of Scripture, it's pretty personal. It's kind of
intimate to this one church and flip by by the
apostle Paul. And so I decided, as I prepared for
today that I would just follow his lead then, like
to preach on this, to explain parts of it from you,
That's probably going to be difficult, but I could just
take a page out of his book and follow his lead.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
And so that's what I'm gonna do today.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Because last February fourth, where was a Sunday, February fourth,
twenty twenty four, at four pm, I walked out those
doors as your new senior pastor.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
That was the minute. That was the moment.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
It's like, I don't know the math. Exactly a little
over ten months ago I walked right outside those doors.
And I spent some time this week reflecting on what
that must have been like for you. I know what
it was like for us because we lived it, but
in general, what would it be like for all you?

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Maybe?

Speaker 1 (09:02):
And this is all me imagining, But maybe there was
some excitement. I know that you have been waiting for
a long time, and maybe there was some wondering. And
as the weeks kind of rolled out, as you kind
of went through this, I wondered what you were thinking.
Like for sure, I know at least some of you did,
because you came and told me, why are your sermons
so short? You remember that now you've probably gotten used

(09:23):
to that, right, more used to that?

Speaker 3 (09:27):
Or what's with all the vests? Why is this guy
always wearing vests?

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Some of you also said that to me, and I
know that just because it's human nature, I know that
you probably did what anyone would do, which is comparing
and contrasting, because I mean, your pastors you've had here
have served historically for a long time. Pastor Dave, your
senior pastor, is here for twenty five years. Pastor Tim,
who has only been a pastor a portion of this,

(09:53):
but he's been here longer, right, So thirty four thirty
five years we're working on here, right, And you've seen him.
His hairs probably was not that color when he started,
and now he's wearing glasses apparently, which makes sense.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
And so you've had trusted pastors.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
You've come to know them, you know them very very
well over the years. And so now you got this
new guy this coming in here, and he's doing crazy things.
I know at eight o'clock. One of the things that
shocked people. I could literally see it on their faces.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
The first time.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
I chanted, because that's not a thing that's done. We
don't do that in this service. But you know it's
Lord opened the eye lips and everyone sings back and
they're like the pastor singing right, And this is all
things that we have to learn. And from our part,
from our family's part, we were excited but wondering. We
had left a wonderful family which we knew very well,

(10:48):
that church family and the people there and what their problems.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Were, and like, how is this all going to work out?

Speaker 1 (10:53):
And so together the Lord then brought us all together
comparing and contrasting. And after that, after ten months, ten
a little over ten months, I'm ready to stand up
here in front of you and say this.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Two things. Number One, I.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Like you guys, Yeah, like you're nice, and like fun,
you guys are fun. That's not true in every Lutheran church.
I just want you to know, Like you can go
to other Lutheran churches and they're not fun. They just
to give a different vibe right, like this right, and
you're like, what's going on in there? Don't do that,

(11:32):
that's a bad idea.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
And so you're right.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
There in that place if you have is these people.
And when I came here, you're just from the very
beginning fun, joking around, knowing each other and laughing and worship.
And I just gotta say, I really like you.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
I've enjoyed this.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
I don't know many of you as much as I
hope too in the years to come, but everyone I've
gotten to know has just been such a joy.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
So that's number one.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Number two, I'm impressed with you, Like I am impressed
with you. I continue to be impressed with you. And
I made a list of things I'm impressed with and
this is not all the things. But I've learned that
you're not just fun, and that you're likable, but you're
joyous your joyous congregation. You engage and you sing, and
you give praise to the Lord, and you enjoy being

(12:18):
with one another. And I love that you want to
do things that make a difference and that matter that's
cool to be a part of a congregation, to be
a part of to see this where people want to
do things that matter for the Lord. And I've learned
that you're able to self evaluate that's not normal, like
your good job, Like I could stand up and give

(12:38):
my impressions after six months and all these cottage meetings,
and not only did you take it and replied about it,
but you actually engaged and asked questions and have followed
up with it.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
That's exciting. Bodes well for the future.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
I'm super impressed, and I'm impressed with how committed you
are to God's word and how many of you are
engaged in active Bible study, and how many of you
think that this is the center prize in importance of
a church. And I've learned that you have a very
talented staff. I don't know if you knew this, but
the people that work here when I arrived are all

(13:10):
the same. People still praise God right, and they are talented,
and they do great work, and they're committed to excellence.
And I've learned that your leadership and your elders, all
of your leadership, your lady, that your counsel and your
elder are also equally gifted and committed to the work here.
And I've learned that all of this time, all of this,

(13:31):
all of this is not new. This is Piece's heritage.
You've been doing this for years and years and years.
And why the pastors may come and go, and the
staff may come and go, and the leaders may.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Come and go.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
God has done this good thing here for a long time.
And I am impressed. I can honestly say that after
forty four weeks, I can add my voice to Paul's
voice when he was writing that Church in PHILIPPI can
echo these words from Philippians, chapter one, verse three through five.

(14:04):
I thank my God for all of you always in
every prayer of mine for you, all for you are
making my prayer my joy complete because of your partnership
in the Gospel from the first day until now. Like
when you read this passage, I can relate to it.
As a pastor of a congregation. I am thankful for you.
It is good to be here. But since I am

(14:34):
your pastor, it is important that I say this and
focus on this that jut as impressed as I am
with all of you, the one that I am most
impressed with, and the one that we should all be
impressed with. For all of the things I mentioned and
all the things you know that I don't know, is
Jesus Amen, because he has done these great things.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
Whatever is good, whatever is noble, whatever is.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Pure, comes from Him and him alone. And so I
read to you. The next verse after Philippias chapter one
three through five is verse six. I am sure of
this that he who began a good work in you
and me will bring it to completion at.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
The day of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
And I got to tell you, when you stand up
in front of a church and you make your vows
and you walk out that door. Now, as a congregation's pastor,
this is the hope that you cling to. Not that
you're gonna be able to figure it out, or it's
all gonna go smooth, or that you're gonna be the
perfect pastor and they're gonna be the perfect congregation. But this,
I am sure of this, that he our Lord and

(15:38):
Savior Jesus Christ, who has begun this good work, he
will bring it to completion on the day of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And I would be a
bad pastor if I did not emphasize this, focus on
this and point you firmly to Christ, because it is
he who has done all these things. And I begin

(15:58):
to wonder, like, as I was writing this sermon, this
sounds familiar. It sounds kind of like the very first
sermon I preached here on February fourth, and this was
at the eight o'clock service.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
I went back.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
I found a direct quote.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
I stood here at the eight o'clock service, and I
said this promise to all of you is a congregation
that as long as I serve as your pastor, I
will bring you Jesus.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
Do you want to remember that?

Speaker 1 (16:28):
I said a version of that to a ten to thirty,
but it's not as clear. I just want you to
hear it again. As long as I serve as your pastor,
as long as Pastor Tim serves as your pastor, we
will bring you Jesus. And that should be your expectation.
That we are a people rooted and established by the Lord.
That the generations that have gathered here, the people that

(16:49):
have come, the staff, and all the rest who have
come and gone, they are all part of his greater work.
That he has not only begun it, but he will
bring it to completion on the day of our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ, because this is what He has
done in every one of our lives.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
We started this service today, boys, look.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
At me right now.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
We started this service today in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Remember that it was a few minutes ago, and we
began every service to begin every day, just as we
began our life in Him at the baptismal font, in
the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit. And that is who you are.

(17:33):
That's who all of you are. I love Pastor Tim's
children's lesson today. If fits so perfect. We didn't even
talk about it, but it fits so perfect. I love
when God does stuff like that, because this is who
we are. When people see us, they should see who
That's who we are, you know. And so we leave

(17:55):
this place as a witness and light to Him, condensed
and compacted in this room right now, about to be
spread out as lights in the community, lights to Christ.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
This is who we are.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
And so I am sure and certain, there is no
doubt in my mind, and incredibly thankful to be a
part of what God is doing here. And I'm excited
to see because again I'm super impressed. Like I went before,
I went before God and prayer the summer, and I said,
what should we be doing?

Speaker 3 (18:22):
We got to do something here.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
We're going to be doing a lot of boring planning
and thinking about the future and making our plans. But
what can we do to make a difference? And the
Lord put it on my heart that we would do
this trip to Guatemala. We build as many houses for
as many families. We talked about with the staff and
they're like, yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
And I got to me. I was a little doubtful, like,
how's this going to work? I don't know this church.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
It's a lot of money to raise and we raise
the money in like twenty seconds through the generosity of
God's people. And then like I think you'd learn your
lesson right, And I said, God, okay, well, I guess
you're challenging us back. I mean, how are we going
to get enough people to do this? And then we
have like fifty some people?

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Was it, Lauren?

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Are you here? Where'd you go?

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Who's signed up? Like?

Speaker 2 (19:04):
For sure.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Thirty seven signed up? And how many are on the
I'm going But I'm just too lazy to fill out
paperwork page forty five. So forty five plus thirty seven
is that right? Forty Okay, who's good at math? These guys?

Speaker 3 (19:23):
Eighty two? Does someone do that? All right? Inner rain
man back there?

Speaker 2 (19:28):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
So that's eighty two.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
People said they're going, okay, God, because we're most impressed
with who.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Yeah, he's going to do incredible things.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
We have nothing to worry about.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
We get to live in this privileged place, and now
we get to leave here today as a witness to
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Amen.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
And I can honestly say it is good to.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Be here with you.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
We pray, Almighty God, your word is cast like seed
into the ground. Now let the dew of heaven descend
and righteous fruit abound.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
I'm in.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
Well, that was a great message past your guy, you know,
and just the whole just going back to when you
first came here and what we've learned so far, you know.
And I just really encourage people to come to come
to church on Sundays and join our family here and
be a part of this and be a part of
the Bible studies and the things that you're teaching us.

(20:31):
Now are just unbelievable. Go, I'm back into my Bible
one hundred percent. I always did, you know, but now
I'm thinking back, Jee, what are you saying. I know
there's some folks that talked about in the sermon, you
talked about he will bring this, he will bring it
to completion, and what exactly does that mean?

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Yeah, there's the for us as Christians. Christ has done
everything that needs to be done, and so we have
been brought into the faith. We've been given new life.
There is zero more things that have to happen. Yet
we're still a part of his plan. We're still living
in linear time. We're still living in this place in
which He never leaves us where we are. So while

(21:10):
we struggle with our sin, while we struggle with this world,
we're still waiting for his return. And so that's kind
of what this means, is that he will bring what
he's begun in us for us at our baptisms in
the name of Father Son, the Holy Spirit. He is
continuing on. He is sanctifying us, making us holy. We're
not the same as we were ten years ago. It's

(21:30):
kind of hard to track that unless you're looking in
the rear mirror it. Certainly it doesn't seem to be
things we're actively trying to improve ourselves, but yeah, it's
just happening. And at the end, then when Christ returns,
all things will be completed and that work that He
begun in us and all of creation.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Will be done.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
And it is kind of the forward leaning the life
of the Christian. It is a it's good to keep
your eyes focused forward exactly.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
And what I really appreciate about the lessons that I've
gotten since you've been here is that it fits for
me lifelong Lutheran, you know, Christian, and which is so
many years. We won't talk about that, but several. The
thing is it fits so completely with the new believers,

(22:17):
the new people that are coming in, because there's folks
and I've talked to them here that have never had
this in their life, which to me is like, I
don't get it. How could you not have had this believe?
But the way you're putting into perspective, you can see
how they can really fully understand of what it means
to have when Jesus was on earth, when he's walking

(22:38):
among us and when he's talking and what the Bible's
telling us. It fits it makes sense, and especially just
starting from creation.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Yeah, it all fits together. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
And if you listen to the sermon, you heard me
list all the things that I'm impressed with about this congregation.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Well, it's cool because we have purpose here.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
We're not just waiting around Forsus some other thing, like
we have been made new. Creation is the victory is one.
And the work we do today matters like it makes
a difference, and so everyone wants to be a part
of that kind of work, and this church certainly is.
And what I'm most impressed with is God's faithfulness. Most

(23:18):
impressed with what He has done here, and that this
congregation has been willing to listen, because a lot of
congregations they just kind of they kind of hide off
in the in the corner. They you know, put their
head in the sand, and they they act as if
we're just waiting around, and and you know, we're not so.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
And Jesus asked us to go out and teach, teach
all nations, baptizing the folks. And that's what he asked
us to do. And that's what I see here. When
I first started here, I was impressed as you were
when I first started at this church. I was impressed
by how many people were such great teachers, Yeah, and
so knowledgeable.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Yeah, you know, it's just it's it's made it easy.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
It's an easy transition to go from one church to another,
or if you've never been churched, which I have some
friends that Billy had never been churched, but they can't.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Hear and they say, oh, yeah, I like what I'm
hearing here.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
That's kind of how I felt. I had challenged the
Lord a little bit, kind of in my heart, like
you know, okay, if you're gonna do this, make it happen.
And uh and not only did he make it happen,
he may happen incredibly quick, more than we asked for.
And then it's like you never learn. I was like, okay, well,
I guess you're challenging us back and whatever. And now

(24:28):
I hope we can get enough people to go build
these houses and boom, we have enough people. So it's
uh all within six weeks. In fact, we had one
member who has been gone for the last six weeks
and they caught me yesterday and said, what is going on?

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Like what happened? I've only been gone six weeks?

Speaker 1 (24:47):
You know where you know, we've raised me money for
four houses and we have eighty people what what have
you what?

Speaker 2 (24:53):
And I'm like, it's God.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
We asked for his help and boy did he ever
give it great? Well this, you know, I'm I just
encourage the folks to keep listening and and there's some
really exciting things coming down the pike here and I'm
really really excited myself to be a part of all
of this. So Pastor Guy, thank you so much for
all of your work, for your for your words in

(25:18):
the sermon, and just blessings on your week you as well.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Thank you, m.
