Speaker 2 (00:20):
It's Picking the Locks here on Sports Radio ninety three
to three KJRFM, Seattle.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Sports Leader.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Your host Mark James from mj in the midday ten
am to one pm every day, along with the best
sports Andy Kapper in America, Lee Sterling. The show's brought
to you by the fine folks at Fan Dual Sportsbooks
who Quamish Clearwater Casino Resort was over in that area
for Thanksgiving last week.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
It looks so beautiful.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Have not gotten a chance to stop by inside, but
I'm gonna definitely do that coming up sooner than later
before the year is out, or certainly after the new
year as well. Lee's turning from Paramount sports dot Com.
He's on a thirty seven and seventeen and one run

(01:06):
thirty seven to seventeen and one run in the last
eleven weeks in the NFL and nine out of the
last eleven weeks combined for college football and the NFL
lee and for all everybody out there they want to
get your money picks to go to Paramount sports dot
com and call one eight hundred and four hundred and
ninety seven four to one.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Any specials you got, run right now.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yep, double down December, and it's every single game through
the end of the month. Normally four ninety seven for
this show. Only when you check out and the checkout
box put in coupon code save one hundred, save one,
zero zero, it'll be just three ninety seven. Works out
for less than one hundred dollars a week. You get
every single game that I've gotten college football in the

(01:49):
NFL through the end of the month. So double down December,
Paramount Sports.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Dot Com, Double Down December. That is awesome, all right. Well,
the LLEGE football playoff rankings came out Tuesday night, and obviously,
you know, from our standpoint, our school, the University of
Miami Hurricanes, did not move. Notre Dame dropped the spot
behind Alabama, so their ten BYU stayed at eleven. Despite

(02:19):
the fact that they were they struggled last week at
home versus UCF. They were down fourteen nothing. They did
come back and cover the number of seventeen and a
half points, but they did struggle in the beginning of
that game. So Lee, before we get into our wrong
team favored underdog.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Picks, I just got to say that.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
I hope, obviously that this weekend goes Miami's way. And
what do I mean by that, Well, every Miami Hurricanes
fan right now in the world are rooting for the
Texas Tech Red Raiders to basically cover the number twelve
and a half thirteen depending where you get it right
now keeps fluctuating. Remember they shut down BYU a few

(03:06):
weeks ago down in Lubbock twenty nine to seven. This
game will be played at Jerry World, not in Lubbock,
but certainly will be a home field advantage for the
Red Raiders and Joey McGuire, Baron Morton and that stud
All American linebacker Jacob Rodriguez. But obviously we'll be rooting
for Texas Tech. And then in Atlanta in the SEC

(03:27):
Championship game, the Georgia Bulldogs get a chance to avenge
their only loss of the season to Alabama. They get
to do this one in Atlanta, not in Athens like
they did face earlier in the season, and Georgia is
a two and a half point favorite. So from Miami standpoint,
we'd like to see Georgia not only win, but hopefully

(03:50):
win by three scores or more. Texas Tech take care
of BYU knock them out, and I think there's the pathway.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
It shouldn't have to come to this.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
But the fact that the playoff committee right now and
they said, well, you know for weeks now, Lee, well
we gotta wait till Miami and Notre Dame are near
each other. Well, if chock cold Surf on Saturday and
Texas Tech takes care of BYU knocks them out and
they're done, it'll be Notre Dame in Miami back to back.

(04:22):
And I have to say this now, obviously, like I said,
not objectively speaking, there is a bias, but let's just
say for argument's sake, for everybody here in the Pacific Northwest,
if the Washington Huskies right now we're in Miami spot
and Washington had beaten Notre Dame the first game of

(04:43):
the year on Montlake at Husky Stadium and they both
finished with the same record, I would be as adamant
if not more, because this is basically completely totally questioning
the integrity of the game. Because in the NFL league,
and I know it's not the NFL, but in the

(05:05):
National Football League, when two teams are tied in the
division or even three, the number one criteria that they
go to when two teams have the same record, number
one head dead.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
And that's why the NFL is king.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
And if the Committee on Selection Sunday drops the ball
and puts my Notre Dame in over Miami, barring that,
you know, let's just say that Alabama wins and Notre
Dame makes it over Miami, that will be to me
one of the lowest moments in college football. And the

(05:40):
system is broken, and the system at that point, to
me is rigged.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Now, maybe the committee, Hunter.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yurchek said with Rhece Davis, who I had on my
show on tuesdayly he said that teams can move up
when idle can move up or down when idle, which
Miami Notre Dame are this week?

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Your thoughts, Well, it kind of reminds me a little
bit of the year two thousand yea. Miami had played
Florida State earlier in the year and beat them head
to head close game. I mean, even though the score
was close and Miami and Notre Dame this year, if
you watch the game, Miami was clearly the better team,
so it should have count for something. It doesn't happen

(06:18):
often in college football, but it happened in two thousand
and it might be the case here. What was really
disturbing was how they moved Alabama ahead one spot after struggling.
I mean, they were lucky to beat Auburn who was
five and seven, starting a quarterback for only the second
time in his college career, and also without a head coach,

(06:40):
a bad five and seven Auburn team. And he had
the audacity to say that that win impressed him. Well,
that impressed him. He should have been doing backflips about
what to be honest with what Notre Dame did and
they dropped. And also Miami did against a ranked opponent.
They beat Pitts so bad that kid for Pittsburgh deck

(07:02):
quarterback and those offensive and defensive linemen. I'd be surprised
if they ad to show up at school until the
start of the spring semester.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
They were, they were, and you know, Miami did what
they were supposed to do. Yeah, had a lull there
in mid October two out of three weeks, lost to
Louisville at home coming off of bye and then the
inexcusable one on the road November.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
The rest were horrible.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
We're not just saying that as sore loser Miami fans.
The refs were so bad, but there's no excuses. You
can't lose to an inferior talented SMU team on the
road as a ten and a half eleven point favorite.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
You can't do that.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
They shouldn't even have been in that game period. So
at the end of the day, I just hope that
everything works out. But for Miami's sake right now, you
got to be the biggest Texas Tech in Georgia fans
in the world, and not just Georgia winning Georgia just
absolutely dismantling. So Go Kirby, Smart Go Dunner, Stockton and

(08:08):
Nate Frazier and the dogs. All right, So Lee, speaking
of the dogs, this is our wrong team favored underdog segment.
Let's start right now with the Big twelve championship game
at Jerry World in Arlington between Texas Tech, who's favored
by thirteen versus BYU.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
So I do think Texas Tech is clearly the better team,
but it's tough to beat a team twice in the season,
and that first game I watched the game, it reminded
me there's just been certain instances where you just step
out on the field and it's just not your day.
And give Texas Tech credit. They were dominant at twenty
nine to seven win over BYU, and the score actually

(08:50):
could have been worse. But Texas Tech, even though they're
I mean, they're great defensively, top ten in almost every
major statistical category. BYU is still a very good team,
and they did win eleven games. I think BYU is
going to make adjustments after playing them. I think that
they're gonna be sky high now that looks like they're

(09:11):
head coach Kalanie Sataki is going to be staying. That's
another plus here. I think Texas Tech is really good,
But do you really want to lay that many points
over double digits in a game that is going to
be played on a neutral site, even though it is
you know, in Dallas a lot more Texas Tech fans.
But let me tell you something, BYU fans travel very

(09:34):
very well. I bet you's sixty forty I like BYU,
I'm going to take take the thirteen points here ix
to see Texas Tech winning by seven or ten and
we're happy, and BYU covers for me also, all.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Right, I got to tell you that's not my pick,
but I'm not touching that game.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
But I like, I like the other side.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
I do think it'll stay close, and I think that
probably towards the maybe the beginning of the third, middle
of the third, I think the Red Raiders will open
it up and that crowd's gonna be a major factor,
and they're gonna have a huge home field advantage, just
like you know, because it's in Texas and there's gonna
be a lot of people coming up from Lubbock. So

(10:19):
we'll see what we'll see what happens there, all right.
For me, I'm actually gonna stick in that gamely, and
I'll tell you what I'm gonna go in that game
right then and there. I'm gonna look at BYU. Their
team total is seventeen and a half points, and I

(10:39):
think that Joey McGuire and Jacob Rodriguez, that Texas Tech
defense is gonna shut them down. I'm not saying I'm
gonna be held to single digits like they were in Lubbock.
But I do believe that the Red Raiders will hold
them to under seventeen and a half points BYU. Of
their eleven games this year, six of them went under

(11:03):
so and I think Texas Tech with that defense, I
think Texas Tech is a team lee that could make
a run to Miami on January nineteenth in the National
Championship game.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
And that's how much I believe in them.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
And I'm gonna go BYU team total under seventeen and
a half points. That's what I'm going with next for
you coming up, You've got one in the AC Seed
Championship that you like.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Yeah, I'm gonna look at the running back for Duke.
Name is Nate Shepard. Freshman and didn't start off getting
a whole lot of playing time, but boy did he
come on and get some tough defenses. Like Clemson has
sixty yards on just thirteen carries. Connecticut, who people don't
know how good they are, but they beat some good teams.

(11:54):
Connecticut their head coach moved on to Colorado State, think
they wanted something like nine, nine, maybe ten games, And
then he also gained ninety against North Carolina seventy five
against Wake Forest. I just think that this is a
kid that does it all. He's very talented, and they're
playing against the defense. It is not a good rush defense,

(12:17):
so I mean he can this kid can really get
going here. So, like I said, didn't play much first
couple of games Elon Illinois, but they figured out that
this kid can play. Also, he averaged averaged over five
and a half yards per carry. That's impressive. Scored nine touchdowns.
So I think you know, it's basically a home game

(12:38):
playing in Charlotte here, home crowd here, a lot to
play for.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
It.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Not going to get in to the NCAA College Football Playoffs,
but winning a ring is important to these kids, and
Nate Shepherd certainly one of the reasons everyone talks about
Darien Menshall, but they Shepherd very impressive running back, true freshman.
Will take his over seventy five and a half rushing yards.
I think he gets ninety one hundred yards easy.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
All right, I'm gonna go to the Big Ten championship game.
And you got to say one thing about Ohio State.
They haven't really been tested this year. I'm beginning in
the Michigan game at the end against Texas. But more
or less, they have not been tested and their defense
has been outstanding, absolutely.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Amazing this year.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Out of their games, they have held teams right now
in terms of their eleven games eight and three on
the Unders. So the Unders have gone under the total
eight out of eleven times. That is unfreaking believable. And
you look at specially recently. Let's go back and look

(13:45):
at what they've done. I saw them here in Seattle
against Washington, held Demon Williams and that offense to six points,
Minnesota three points, Illinois on the road.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
That was the team that.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Scored the most sixteen, Wisconsin shut them out thirty nothing,
Penn State fourteen, Perdue ten, Ucla ten, Rutgers nine, and
then last week at the Big House in Michigan nine.
So I'm looking at this number right here, and I
think it's gonna be a tough day for Fernando Mendoza
and this Indiana Hoosiers offense. Their team total is twenty

(14:21):
one and a half. I don't think that's gonna come
close to it. I think Ohio State is gonna shut
them down. Caleb Downs rvel Reese take Indiana team total
under twenty and a half points bet at now wait
for it, wait for it, thank me later. Indiana team

(14:44):
total under twenty one and a half points coming up next.
Right here on Picking the Locks Pozzy by Fanuel Sportsbook,
Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort, Mark Teams, Lee Sterling here with you.
We were gonna get to our blowouts, and there will
be a lot of blowouts, and then at the end
of the show, the locks. What you wait for the most.

(15:05):
We will have the locks, but the blowouts are coming
up next for a conference championship weekend and of course
NFL Week fourteen.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Right here on Picking the Locks.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Are you looking for a lock this weekend? You've come
to the right place. Now back to picking the Locks
with Mark James and Lee Sterling brought to you by
the FanDuel Sports Book at Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort on
Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FN.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Locks brought to you by FanDuel Sportsbook, Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort,
Mark James MJ in the midday ten am the one
pm on Seattle Sports Leader ninety three three KJRFM along
with Lee Sterling from Paramount Sports dot Com. You want
his VIP money picks, you can call them that one
A hundred four hundred nine to seven for one. All right,

(15:57):
we got a lot of blowout specials here, and then
of course our final segment, like we close out each
and every week, we'll have the locks for you, so
stay tuned for that. But one of the things I
like to get into LEE is teams that we like
and maybe teams that we don't, so we will have
a better beware type teams that you might not want

(16:22):
to invest too much money in. You go ahead and
start and tell us who you like in these college
football playoffs.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Yep, So a couple of teams I don't like. I
do not like Ole Miss, So you don't have a
coach here. I think trend Dad chamblists their quarterback. While
he's been good in the regular season, I think once
he gets against better defenses, I think he's going to
have trouble. So you know, it's gonna be one of
those cases here where I think they've reached their limit

(16:52):
here and they're going to have a lot of trouble.
So that's one of the teams that I don't like.
Another team don't like a whole lot here is going
to be Oklahoma. I think they're limited on defense because
they can only play defense and they can't play offense.

(17:13):
So defense probably top five unit. Offense, John Mattier has
not been the same at all since that injury. You
look at the teams like Alabama, Notre Dame, Miami that
should be in even Texas and Vanderbilt, they would scare
me more. I think Oklahoma. I think their ceiling is
maybe winning one game in the playoffs, so I really

(17:34):
don't think they have much of a chance at all.
So you give them credit. They beat Alabama at Alabama,
but they should have lost the LSU, no doubt about it.
They hit on a big play to win that game.
Other than that breakdown by LSU, LSU was probably the
better team and team I like at the oddss Georgia
eight to one, probably gonna have a buy in the

(17:57):
first round. They get that buy and they win on Saturday,
they don't have to play that first week, might get
to play, say someone like Texas, A and M matching
up against Notre Dame in the first week, knock out
one of those two teams, and those two teams whoever's
left may not have much for the second game. And
they'll also be able to play probably close to home.

(18:18):
So this Georgia team getting better and better. And I
don't think they showed anything in the game last week
against Georgia Tech. So I was looking at some of
the plays they were running. It was basic vanilla. So
give me Georgia plus eight hundred if you want to
make a bet on someone to win the national title.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
All right, I agree with you on Oklahoma, by the way,
on a better beware type team. I am so with
you on Ou. I think that they have zero offense.
They're very limited. You know, it's just amazing to me
that from Miami that you know, Alabama can end up

(18:56):
being the reason Miami doesn't get into the playoffs. In
twofold number one, they lost to Oklahoma at home. I
don't know how that happened. That would never happen with
Nick Saban. They've lost to Oklahoma two years in a row.
Oklahoma knocked them out last year when Jalen Milroe. They
only scored three points on the road against a garbage
Oklahoma team last year. And plus the fact that Alabama

(19:17):
has Isaiah Horton and Isaiah Horton had three touchdown catches
against Auburn on Saturday Night former Miami wide receivers. So
I'm with you right now on Oklahoma, I just don't
buy them. I just I look at them and I
think that they're extremely limited. Also about teams you mentioned
Ole Miss, I would say that, but Charlie Weist Junior

(19:40):
is sticking around two call plays.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Now. This team is.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
They've had a great season, but I don't know if
they get further than the quarterfinals, especially on the matchups
and go back to that game at Penn State.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
And I'm talking about Indiana. I'm not sold on the Hoosiers.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
I know Fernando Mendoz is an unbelievale year, it could
win the Heisman, all that stuff, But I just wonder
if they're in a position like that and they're not
playing a Penn State team that didn't have a coach
at the time, can they pull a rabbit out of
the hat or out of another place like they did
against Penn State.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
I'm not sold on them either.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
The team that I'm very bullish on, and Leo back
me up on this because I placed a futures bet
on them to win it all, like a great value
at plus eleven hundred Texas Tech. I said it in
the first segment. I'm saying in it again. Texas Tech.
Right now, by the way, I think they're the best,
most underappreciated, underrated team in all of college football. And

(20:46):
I mean that. Baron Morton, Jacob Rodriguez. This team is unbelievable.
On the year they are and listen to this, I
kid you not. They are eleven in excuse me, ten
and one. I think one game push ten and one
against the number that's the best in America. Give me

(21:07):
Texas Tech all day long. I love the Red Raiders,
all right, and Lee, I think they could win the
national champions I'm very bullish on them.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Not many people get to see them. They're in the
Big twelve.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
They're down in Lubbock, but watch out, and they're gonna
be a power for years to come with their billionaire
philanthropists Cody Campbell. All right, Lee, I'm gonna go to
the blowouts, and I'm gonna give you two because they're
both in the same game, the Bills in Bengals. Actually,
my blowouts and locks are all on that game. But
the blowouts I'm gonna give you on this one are

(21:42):
from the Bills. Bengals game. The Bills and the Bengals
have two of the worst run defenses in the NFL.
Bills are thirtieth against the run, the Bengals are thirty second.
So in this game, I'm not overthinking it. I think
Chase Brown is going to his total in this game
for rushing yards fifty two and a half. He's averaging
sixty rushing yards a game that'll go over. How about

(22:05):
James Cook. You saw what he did last week and
that big number he put up against the Steelers. He's
going up against a porous Bengals defense that can't even
stop a cold is over though his total ninety nine
and a half. It's a big total, but he should
have that covered most of it by halftime, just like

(22:26):
I gave you on Devon HGN last week for the Saints.
So I'm going Chase Brown over fifty two and a
half rushing yards, James Cook on the other sideline over
ninety and a half rushing yards. Bet those now and
think me later.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Leave for you.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Let's go to a game Boise State going up against
the fighting Dan Mullins in UNLV.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Boise State a three.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
And a half point I believe are they they're a
dog in this right Yeah, favorite, favorite favorite this one, Yep.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
Game is at home. Yep, it's in Boise So did
you know did you know Dan Mullens never won a
conference title anywhere?

Speaker 3 (23:09):
I do not know that.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
Yeah, yep, at Mississippi State and at Florida has not
won a conference title, so it would be big for him.
But here's what's going on in this game. First of all,
whenever you check things, you check weather and you check injuries,
So two positive things for Boise State. Maddox Mattson the
quarterback is going to be coming back for Boise State,

(23:32):
and I think he is a huge upgrade of a
mexicol fort So think they getting upgrade there. On top
of that weather, it's going to be high thirties, low forties.
But what's the kicker here? Rain and these Boisy kids
know how to play in the rain. UNLV home games
are indoors, so whenever you see a snow game, a

(23:56):
bad weather game, always very favorites. Boise weather up there
is just horrific. It seems like about nine ten months
out of the year. So UNLV also hasn't beaten Boise
State since did you have summer reading when you were
a kid mark when you were in like middle school,
high school.

Speaker 3 (24:15):
Yeah, well I had it, but i'd never participated.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
Mobi Dick, Moby Dick. UNLV hasn't beaten boys he stay
probably since moby Dick was a minum.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Oh god, boy, that's a long time.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Nine times yep, nine times, so not able to do
the number here, So the question is here. Two of
the last four times they lost to him just were
not even competitive. They had a chance. When they played
him earlier in the year, it was fourteen to three,
Broncos led UNLV pulled within twenty eight, twenty four by

(24:51):
halftime quarter twenty one to nothing. Didn't seem to phase
him at all. A pretty good quarterback, Anthony Calandria comes
over from a program in the Big East where he
runs and froze, and he's decent, but he's not even
as good as Utah State's quarterback Bryce and Barnes. Utah

(25:14):
State last week they played Boise. Bryce and Barnes, who
I think is the best quarterback in the conference. He
ran the ball for eighty nine yards. He had looks
like Boise. They were leading almost the entire game. Didn't
face Boise. They came back here, so I think there's
a lot of pressure here on Dan Mullen. They're one
of those teams, in my opinion, they reach a certain ceiling.

(25:37):
They can beat all the teams better than them that
you know that aren't as good. I'm sorry, he's not
as good as them, but teams that have more talent
and they have to, you know, have some things happen
in the game and playing in certain conditions, they just
can't make it up here. So I'm gonna take Boise
State here late to three and a half. I think
the line's going to go up, and I'm like I said,

(25:59):
take Boise State ye should be an easy win. Other
play I'm gonna look at is I'm going to look
at the over over in the North Texas and two
lane game. And why am I looking at this game here? Well,
North Texas can do it all on offense. Drew mister
Miiker is a kid that, if you follow this story,

(26:22):
red shirt freshman when he started. I believe it was
the Bowl game last year, first time he'd ever started
an organized game of quarterback, and he played some other positions,
but he was the backup all year. Last year. Bowl
game was his coming out party. How good has he
been this year? Well, just twenty nine touchdowns and four interceptions.
He's completed almost seventy one percent of his passes. And

(26:44):
get this, for ten yards per attempt most quarterbacks the
six to seven maybe eight yards per attempt range. Ten
yards per attempt. They've scored fifty two or more points
in five to the last six games here. Last year
when Tulane won that game and covered Tulane, Uh, they

(27:07):
didn't play. This year ran for two hundred and ninety
seven yards and did it mainly with Maki Hughes Macky Hugh's. Uh,
there was there running back heat transferred to Oregon, but
they still have a bevy of good running backs. Plus
this year a running quarterback. Jake Retzlaff, the quarterback came

(27:27):
over from Byu running and throwing the ball. And it's
all about matchups. Facing a North Texas defense gets US
one hundred and twenty ninth in yards per game allowed
rushing and one hundred and five to seventeenth and yards
per carry allowed. So great match up here. Got this
North Texas team that can't stop the run, that scores

(27:50):
quick and uh, Tulane. You know a lot on the
line here. Even if the team gets up, they're gonna
they're not gonna take a chance. And and and you know,
call off the dogs here. They'll keep scoring. They want
to make sure they win this game of the winner
is going to be going to the college football playoffs.
So get me the over sixty six total points. I

(28:11):
think we're gonna see a high scoring game here.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
Yeah, I did too.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
I did too, And I think that's something I'm gonna
partake in. I like that, pick Lee, I really do.
I think it's going to be a very high scoring game.
One game we talked about before Georgia Alabama.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
What do you anticipate that? Do you think that could
get up there?

Speaker 2 (28:32):
And in terms of scoring of the total in that game, you.

Speaker 4 (28:39):
Know, I don't know why. Why do I say that
george is going under and a lot of their games
and once they get the lead, they just run the football.
And also their quarterback, you know, he's one of these
guys that you know, they get the third down and
they manage the clock, and then what do they do
after that point? Gunner stocked in a one four on

(29:00):
third and five, get the first down, staying bound and
they move the clock. So it should be a good game,
but you know you're looking at totals, you know it's
unless Alabama has not been the same offense over the
last last month. So you know they had that great
win at Georgia. That's also another game. Tough to beat

(29:23):
a team twice.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Yeah, no, it is. It definitely is.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
By the way, I want to just make one reference
on Texas Tech. They are eleven and one this year
against the spread, So that is unbelievable. And I'm telling
you on that game, man, it could be close for Wiley.
I respect your opinion, and you know you want to
take the points, but I think that once Joey Maguire

(29:47):
releases the Hounds and they just start to impose their will,
could be a long day for Bear Bachmeyer and that
BYU team. They're not in Lubbock, but you know, it
could look a little different. And you're getting that many
points and when you look at like, wow, why is
it that much?

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Well, it's that much for a reason.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Listen, Vegas always knows all right, coming up next what
you we can't agree.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
We can't agree. We can't agree on everything.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
No, and that's a better when we don't. It's better
when we don't, Vegas always knows. And coming up next
Lee and I we're gonna pound our chests a little bit.
We won the competition last week against our afternoon show,
Softy and Dick. We'll talk about that next. On Picking
the Locks, brought to you by Fan Duel Sports Books
u Quamish Clearwater Casino Resort, Sports Radio ninety three to

(30:34):
three KJRFM, Seattle.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
Are you looking for a lock this weekend? You've come
to the right place. Now back to Picking the Locks
with Mark James and Lee Sterling, brought to you by
the FanDuel Sports Book ats Kwamish clear Water Casino Resort
on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
It's Picking the Locks right here on Sports Radio ninety
three three KJRFM. Mark James, M Jay in the midday
from ten am the one pm every day on KGr
ninety three to three FM. Lee Sterling from Paramount Sports
dot Com. Before we get to everybody's favorite segment, the locks,
Lee's got three.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
I have three.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Before we get to that, we're gonna, you know, kind
of pound our chests like King Kong top of the
Empire State Building a little bit. So we had a
picking the Locks Tag team challenge against our afternoon show
Softy and Dick last week, Dick, Fane and Lee and I.
You know, we were trailing a little bit after the

(31:35):
four o'clock games. They were six three and one and
we were five and three, and we needed Lee to
win on the Commanders plus six and a half in
that game on Sunday Night Football, And that got a
little dicey there because the Commander it went to overtime,
but the Commander's allowed a touchdown by the Broncos to

(31:57):
start overtime. So we needed Marcus Mario to come all
the way down the field and he did, and he
led the Commanders to tying the game up with a touchdown,
and then they went for the two point conversion, and
after Denver kicked the extra point, they went for the
two point conversion. It failed and Denver held on. They've
won seven straight games after trailing that that's never been

(32:19):
done before in NFL history. And so then it was
all up to me and I had going into Monday
Night Football. The New England Patriots first half team total
over thirteen and a half. Well, they scored thirty points in.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
The first half.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
It was over before it even began thirty points in
the first half.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
So Lee and I won combined.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Seven to three versus Softy and Dick at six three
and one, And kudos to Dick Fane. He went undefeated
five and zero, and unfortunately he had his anchor holding
him down, his co host Dave Softy Maller, who went
won three and one. So the pros beat the jos
Lee as expected. But man, if it wasn't for Dick Fane,

(33:02):
that would have been a bloodshed beating for those guys.

Speaker 4 (33:06):
What you didn't tell me was that Dick Vane walks
around with a notebook, his gambling notebook and taking notes
and puts his bets in. At every single week someone
has a notebook. They're pretty serious about winning. So tell
me about that. I just thought, basically we had to
beat Softy and Dick would be you know, two and
three or three and two, but five and zero, you know,

(33:28):
like I said, give him kudos, incredible. I mean, he
was right on the money. So started off great. I
think we were something like four and low and they
were one and two, and I'm thinking this is going
to be easy. And then they went on their run.
You know, that double win on Carolina was very impressive.
They won that out right, and they both picked that,
so we allowed them to do that, and that was

(33:49):
part of the rules. So give them credit there. One
of the best picks I've ever seen plus ten and
a half points won the game outright. But bottom line
was in the end, you know, you had a bunch
of weeks this year where you went four and one
and I might have gone three and one, three and
two or two and three. Uh. I had one of
my better week four and one, and you were solid

(34:10):
three and two. Both of us won and and Softy
uh ended up costing him. I know, who knows, maybe
next year Dick, Dick might you know, just he might
cut Softy out, might go with you know, one of
the support staff might go be going with one of
the sales, uh someone.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
Maybe maybe the janitor.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Could be right, couldn't do much worse.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
No, it couldn't do much more, So Softy did no.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Uh you know, yeah, no, I I it was fun.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
Those guys all in good fun.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
And I give him credit, man, I mean, you know,
thanks to to Dick Fane, they said toe to toe
with the pros, and you know, but as the late
great means gene Okerlin one so eloquently said close only
counts and horseshoes and hand grenades, so uh yeah, you know, close,
but no cigar, all right, Lee, uh.

Speaker 4 (35:02):
Oh oh, And we're gonna have and we're gonna be
going to Joe's on your boys. I know, we'll send
it some picks, we'll put them on Twitter. And we're
not just talking about you know, having you know, the
medium size stone crabs. We're gonna go for the jumbos.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
We're going hash browns, yep.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
And don't forget that grit, that grit that tomato, uh
covered tomatoes, cheese spinach covered tomatoes, right, oh.

Speaker 4 (35:28):
Yeah, it's it's a tomato, huge tomato cut in half
and then they put the spinach on top, and then
three different types of cheap oh melted on top, oh.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
My lord, and followed up follow up with a key
lime pie.

Speaker 4 (35:42):
There you go, there you go, each one each and
you know we might have to have a cognac on
the side, you know.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Oh yeah, Well it's softy and dick or pain for it.
Let's go all right, uh now, let's go for our locks.
Lee SEC Championship Game Georgia two and a half point
favorite versus Alabama.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Who do you got?

Speaker 4 (36:00):
I like Georgia a lot here. Auburn out gained Alabama
by one hundred and thirty one yards. Games being played
Incedes Dome, and that's almost a home game. I mean,
most of their fans, they have a lot more fans there.
There'll be some Alabama fans. I'm sure you know they travel,
but this is going to be probably sixty forty, seventy
thirty or more for Georgia. I think Georgia's defense has

(36:21):
improved as the season has gone on. Here. Beating the
team twice, as I mentioned, is very difficult here, and
I think Bama has regressed. I mean they've had some
bad moments this year. Got destroyed by Florida State, destroyed
by a very bad Florida State team that didn't even
come close to sniffing the playoffs or a winning record.

(36:44):
They got pounded pounded in some other games and somehow
came out and won. Oklahoma could do nothing. Oklahoma's defense
shut him down. And one of the games that they
won against LSU, they always scored two touchdowns on offense
at home with a team, you know, playing with a
quarterback that was taken out for LSU and also with

(37:06):
an interim coach here. So I like this Georgia team here,
and for Miami's sake, I don't think they're gonna win
by seven. I think they're gonna win this game. I
got a thirty four to seventeen. So I like Georgia
here by way more than the two and a half points.
I could see him win him by double digits.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Okay, yeah, no, and we hope, so we certainly hope.
So I'm gonna go right now with my locksley and
then you can close it out.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
I'm gonn I'm gonna keep this well. I just win.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
We don't need to reinvent the wheel when you know
things are gonna go your way.

Speaker 4 (37:43):
Now.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Last weekend I took a bath, and that was one
of my losses.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
Last week.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
I had Josh Allen over two point fifty two and
a half passing yards.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
He didn't even come close.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
But he's at home coming up on Sunday, and he's
going up against the worst defense the NFL, the Cincinnati Bengals.
So I think Josh Allen's gonna have a big day.
Here's a couple of things I love. Three things I'm
gonna give all three locks for this game. Right now,
Josh Allen will go over two hundred and twenty eight
and a half passing yards on Sunday. Bet at now,

(38:17):
thank me later, and cash that ticket. While he's doing that,
he's gonna throw for over one and a half touchdown passes. Now,
for those of you that like to parlay things, that
could be a nice little parlay there, the overpassing yards,
the over touchdown passes as well.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Well, did you.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
See what Joe Burrow did on Thanksgiving Night against the
Baltimore Ravens. Well, guess what he's going up against the
second to third worst defense in the NFL. Now, I
know Buffalo is better as a pass defense than a
run defense, because run defense, they are the second worst
defense next to the Bengals. It doesn't matter, I believe.

(38:58):
With obviously a healthy Jamar Chase, no T Higgins, I
don't care, Joe Burrow will be able to get into
the end zone. So what I'm going to do on
this I'm going to go over Joe Burrow one and
a half touchdown passes. So my locks this week Josh
Allen over two hundred and twenty eight and a half

(39:20):
passing yards, Josh Allen over one and a half touchdown passes,
and Joe Burrow over one and a half touchdown passes,
And this could be a game that kind of hits
the over. So that's what I'm going Those are my
three locks for this week, Lee for you and the
Indianapolis Colts. Man, Oh boy, that was a tough loss

(39:43):
last week at home to the Houston Texans, and they
are right now.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Man, looked like they had.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
A stronghold on that AFC South Division, but the Jacksonville
Jaguars right now are in first place, tied with the Colts.

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Well, guess what, Indianapolis.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
They got to go down to Jacksonville this weekend for
a huge, huge game, the first of two games they
have not met all season long, and the Jaguars going
into this gamely are an underdog at home.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
Yeah. So here's what's interesting about this game. I don't
think anyone in the right mind but that either one
of these teams, we're gonna have eight and four records
at this point in the year. So give the coaching
staff credit, give the players credit here, and this is
gonna be a fun game that's still under the radar,
you know, there's a lot of really good games going
on this week, and you know, we love watching great games.

(40:41):
People are gonna be watching obviously the Green Bay and
Chicago game, Philadelphia and the Chargers, Kansas City and Houston,
but this game could be as bigger, bigger. So I'm
looking at this Jacksonville team here, and there's a couple
of things I don't like. I think something's going on
with Trevor Lawrence and Liam Cohen the head coaching quarterback.

(41:02):
They just don't mesh. They have to run the ball
to be successful. Whereas Indianapolis, I think, is one of
these teams that they can use to pass to set
up the run, or they can run. Obviously Taylor with
the best running backs in the NFL, to set up
their passing game to play action. So I like that
they have that here. Now, some people will say, well,

(41:23):
the game's outdoors, you know, they're playing on grass. Could
be a problem. I don't think. So here's something most
people have not figured out. This Jacksonville team is going
to be down one starter on the offensive line and
three other starters are listed as questionable. One or two
of these guys may not play in the game. So

(41:45):
Patrick McCary. Their starting right guard didn't play last week,
had a concussion, may not even make it back this week.
So this is this is this is gonna be a tough,
tough matchup here for Jacksonville. Also thought that Indianapolis. I
thought the rest didn't do them right by last week.
There was one of the calls. I thought that the

(42:07):
clock had ticked down and they didn't call delay a
game on Houston, let the play go on. Big play
for Houston that changed the game. So there were things
just it wasn't their day. So that being said here,
with the injuries to the offensive line in Jacksonville, if
they can't run them football, I don't think that Trevor
Lawrence is going to be the guy that's gonna be

(42:28):
able to carry this team. Also, on top of that,
Jacksonville's defense playing Indianapolis nothing like the defenses that have
given this Indianapolis team trouble, nothing like Kansas City. Not
as good as Houston and Pittsburgh played well that one game.
So I think this is gonna be an easier defense
that the Indianapolis is facing. Here. Give me the Colts

(42:50):
here aver one and a half points here, I think
they win this this is going to be my second
lock and to finish the show, going to look at
this game is horrible Cleveland in Tennessee. I'm sorry for
making people watch this game and bet on it, but
there's a clear advantage here. So Cleveland three and nine

(43:10):
facing one and eleven Tennessee. Tennessee should not even have
won that game against the Cardinals. They were so lucky.
At one point, I think the Cardinals were at like
ninety eight percent chance to win the game. In the
fourth quarter, like six straight plays had to go Tennessee's
way for them to win, including the running back dropping
the ball team maccario right before the goal line. Now

(43:33):
they got to face Cleveland at Cleveland, Miles Garrett is
on a mission. Nineteen sacks already. He might end up
with over thirty sacks. It looks like he's going to
clearly have the NFL sack total and leader for.

Speaker 2 (43:49):
Oh yeah, he's gonna break Michael straight hands, which with
Michael Strahan's record was kind of fraudulent. Anyway, when Brett
fav took a dive and listen, TJ. Watt already tied it.
So it's gonna be TJ. Watt slash Michael Strahan's record,
and he's going to do it the right way. He's
the best defensive player in the NFL. You know, league,
he might be the best player in the NFL this season.

Speaker 4 (44:09):
Agree with you one hundred percent. Talk to some offensive
lineman NFL. They say he's unblockable. Unblockable so big, long, fast,
and doesn't stop. Knows how to play the game. And
on top of that, the rest of the defensive line
is good. I mean, they get sacks over forty sacks
for the year, both of their linebackers, Schwinger and also
Devin Bush, who it looked like he was finished with

(44:30):
the Steelers. I watched him a couple of years ago
before he get released. He was unwatchable. He's not even
thirty years old and looks like he revitalized his career.
Those two guys one hundred and six and eighty two
tackles while they're facing cam Ward, who takes the most
sacks all ready, forty eight sacks they've taken on the year.
So Cleveland going to get the job done here. Cleveland.

(44:53):
If they hadn't gone for it on fourth down, fourth
and one and fumbled the punt, they might have won
last week. Let's go with Cleveland. Here lay the four
final lock of the week.

Speaker 2 (45:01):
All right, so again, I had Josh Allen over passing yards,
over one and a half touchdown passes, Joe Burrow over
one and a half touchdown passes for my locks. Lee
took Georgia minus two and a half, Colts minus one
and a half, Cleveland minus four. We appreciate you joining
