Clearwater Casino Resort. We're getting you ready for the weekends
games with Lee Sterling.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Here's your host, Mark James.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
It's Picking the Locks, brought to you by Fan Duel Sportsbook,
Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort. Right here on Seattle Sports Leader
ninety three to three kJ r f M.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
My name is Mark James.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Your hosts from MJ in the midday ten am the
one pm Monday through Friday on ninety three to three
KGRFM in Seattle and the best sports Ady Kapper in
America from Paramount Sports. You can check out his website
Paramount sports dot com. Lee Sterling, Lee, we are here tonight.

(00:55):
Actually we've got a game. Actually we're not going to
get into as Alabama and Oklahoma because it's you know,
basically going on right now. Nonetheless, this weekend, we've got
college football playoffs. We have the NFL on Saturday and
then of course on Sunday. Just an amazing weekend of football.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
YEP, fired up about it. We've been waiting a couple
of weeks for these college football playoffs to start. You know,
last year first round, all four favorites, four no sweep.
I think they all won by double digits. So we're
gonna see if we're gonna have a repeat of that,
or you know, can some of these underdogs like our
Miami Hurricanes pull off the upset. So everyone's excited about it,

(01:43):
probably more you know, for the Miami Texas A and
M game. So fun to see how everything's going to
shake out.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
So before we get into our pixley, I want to
talk to you about probably the most underwhelming, disappointing Heisman
Trophy campaign that I've ever seen in my life. I
didn't feel that anyone truly had a Heisman season, if
you know what I mean. And Fernando Mendoza, kudos to him.

(02:12):
Born and raised in Miami, a local kid out of
Columbus High School, went to Cal Berkeley. Who would have
thought Lee that over a year ago in October on
a late kick that was at like ten thirty East
coast time in Miami when Miami played Cal. It was
cam Ward versus Fernando Mendoza, and cam Ward became the

(02:37):
number one pick obviously in this April's NFL Draft, and
now Fernando Mendoza could end up being the number one
pick and next April's NFL Draft. Who thought that game
that night Miami had to come down late in the
game to come back and win it. Who would have
thought that that would have been the first overall pick
versus the following year's first overall pick.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
No One, No one, in fact, I mean almost no
one was up unless you were really a col or,
a Miami fan, or had money on the game. And
we're watching it, so I mean give the kid credit.
I mean, you know, do he and Diego Pave do
they have you know, a claim to say, you know,
they had really good seasons. Absolutely, they probably would have
been top four, top five almost any year, but winning it.

(03:24):
I didn't have Fernando Mendos on my Bengo card. In fact,
when I was watching him high school, I even said
to a couple of my friends, and I miss out
on someone like this kid is like mediocre. They would
tell me he's going to cal Here's what I will say.
I think he's good and with the right team he
can be successful. He goes to a team like the

(03:44):
Raiders or the Jets. He's not going to make it.
It's going to be a disaster because he can scramble
and go straight ahead. His speed there is fine side decide.
I mean he looks like you out there, Mark, I
mean it's not pretty to watch. So, like I said,
I give the kid all the credit in the world.

(04:06):
He turned Indiana from a really good team into a
possible great team, and I'm excited to see what they
can do. You know, if my Miami team can't win
at all for some reason, if they get knocked off,
I'll be rooting for the kid, and I'll be rooting
for Indiana.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
And Kirk Signetti won his second straight AP Coach of
the Year and deservedly so. So it's amazingly what a
coach can do for a program to literally Indiana football.
If I said to you two years ago, Indiana will
be the number one team in the country, undefeated going

(04:44):
into the College Football twelve team playoff after beating the
defending national champion and previously undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes team,
would you have tell me that I need to be
drug tested?

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Absolutely to less than a decade, my daughter was considering
going to Hie you and to be a cheerleader there,
and someone came up to her and told her to said, listen,
let me be honest with you. The football games, everyone
goes to the tailgate. If the students last the halftime,
it's got to be one of the greatest games of
all time. Everyone is absolutely gone by halftime. So times

(05:20):
have changed. It just shows you you get a great
coach in there and you get on nil involved, anyone
can be successful now. So just wondering. You know, it's
gonna be interesting. Who's going to be the two thousand
and twenty six Cinderella story.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yeah, all right, So we've got obviously coming up next
segment will be our blowouts and the final segment you
wait for it every week the Locks, but this segment
we do underdogs and Lee you will lead us off.
Speaking of cal you've got to pick there on the
Hawaii ball coming up next Wednesday. And then you also
have a game coming up, big one on Sunday for

(05:59):
both teams, the Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens. Ravens trying
to stay in the playoff picture. If they lose this
game and the Steelers win, Wow, the Ravens put themselves
in a really precarious predicament on the outside looking in.
Could if I had told you before the seasonly that

(06:20):
Patrick Mahomes three times Super Bowl Champion, three time Super
Bowl MVP, three time MVP, and Lamar Jackson two time
League MVP would not be in the playoffs this postseason,
you would have said, Wow, whatever weed you're smoking, you
need to sell that because you can make a lot
of money. But nonetheless, here we are, so tell us
what you got for the Hawaii Bowl coming up next Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
All right, so it's gonna be Hawaii at home facing Cal.
And you're saying, okay, Hawaii, you know, good team. Throw
the football on paper, should be able to throw on Cal.
But here's a couple things that had me saying, maybe
not so fast. Timmy Chang four season, done a nice
job first bowl game here, Not like it's that much

(07:06):
of a home field advantage. They played in front of
like fifteen sixteen thousand fans and they're on campus arena.
Cal fired head coach Justin Wilcox, and who did they
replace him with? Offensive coordinator Nick Rolovic. He's the former
Hawaii coach. So if you think that they're just going
to have one to go out and have fun and
not take it seriously. I think you're going to be

(07:28):
mistaken here. They actually have done a decent job stopping
teams that throw the short pass, and that's what Hawaii does.
They use their passing game first and second down like
most teams. Running game here. So Hawaii also without there
by far number one receiver here, Jackson Harris caught forty

(07:49):
nine balls for nine hundred and sixty three yards. That's right.
He averaged nineteen point seven yards for reception and had
twelve touchdowns. He opted out. He's obviously looking to be
at a bigger school, bigger name, and showcase his talents.
But I think Kal has a good enough offense here
to win this game. Stanford almost won the game Week one,

(08:12):
twenty to seventeen, probably should have won the game. Freshman quarterback,
this young kid, seventeen touchdowns, just nine interceptions here, have
a running game. Everyone knows Jade Non left, but after
I've left, kid Kendrick Grafael put together eight hundred and
fifty three yards rushing twelve touchdowns. Jacob Dehayeshu's ninety nine

(08:34):
receptions for eight hundred and ninety two yards and another
five touchdowns they throw to their tight end. Also, he
has thirty five receptions. I mean all the receivers. I
mean these guys, almost all of them are twelve plus
yards per reception. So they do a lot of play
action here, and they've moving out a lot of guys.
And I love their middle line. Have a great young

(08:55):
middle linebacker number zero, that's all over the field here.
I think team's favorite. I think Cayle wins this game here,
thirty to twenty seven. Take the points.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
All right, very nice?

Speaker 3 (09:06):
All right, I'm going to go to college station tomorrow
morning local time kick there at Kyle Field eleven am,
very early. Doesn't give the locals a lot of time
to get rowdy, rambunctious. Yeah, they can still drink before
eleven am. But trust me, I've been to both that valleys,

(09:29):
the one at LSU and the one at Clemson, and
there's a fine line between a day game and a
night game. And I know they'll be over one hundred
and ten thousand people. They'll probably try to squeeze one
hundred and twenty thousand in tomorrow, but nonetheless, it's gonna
be eleven a m kickoff. The Miami Hurricanes are Miami Hurricanes.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Lee. The committee got it right. They did the right thing.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
You know, for five weeks, six weeks, we were stressing
it out, and it looked like that Miami was gonna
be on the out side looking in, especially on the
penultimate College Football Playoff rankings reveal the week prior to
Championship Saturday, when Notre Dame was still a couple spots
ahead of Miami.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
And guess what that didn't happen.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
I'll tell you this right now about Texas A and
m They're a great team, Casius Howell, Marcel Reid. Good
teams win, great teams cover Miami on the season nine
to two ats against the spread. What's Texas A and
M five and six Miami Hurricanes the only team in

(10:35):
college football to have a top ten O line and
a top ten D line. Good luck to Cashius Owl
going up against cc MAUIOA on the other side, the
top two rated defensive ends and next year's NFL draft
Rubin Bain a team as a door. This team is ready.

(10:58):
We were, you know, I wouldn't say we're lucky we're in.
And Nick Saban, the greatest college football coach ever said,
Miami gets in, they could be the most dangerous team
in the playoffs. You talk about wrong team favored, this
is it. You could take the points on this one.
You can give me the three and a half. But
I'm telling you right now, you don't need them. Take

(11:18):
Miami money line tomorrow morning. Bet it now, wait for it,
wait for it, thank me later, and cash that ticket.
Miami Hurricanes win the game on the field in College Station.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
Well, I've been there before, Mark, and I think it's
a pretty tough place, but can't be that much tougher
than Florida State. So been to both places. Florida State
only has sixty five thousand fans. They say it's like
one hundred and five hundred and eight, But I like
the facts. Also that Miami already played there in two
thousand and twenty twenty two, so I think that's an
advantage also for the Hurricanes. So I'm going to finish

(12:01):
off the wrong team favorite segment and I'm going to
go with the New England Patriots, and I had Buffalo
last week. That's a great thing about gambling. You can
be riding one team one week and against them the
next and that's time to ride New England. So I
love Fabian Henderson. Two long touchdown runs last week fifty
six and sixty two yards, has five touchdowns of over

(12:23):
fifty yards on the season. I don't think this Baltimore
team is good. They haven't been good all season. Lamar
Jackson doesn't want to run just two runs here last
week versus Cincinnati. Drink May is a better quarterback right now,
running and throwing the football here. Give me New England here,
wrong team favored. They win the game straight up, twenty
eight twenty all right.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
I'm going to go to the National Football League and man,
the Dallas Cowboys had had really a chance to make
the playoffs, and they blew it on Monday night, giving
up thirty four points to JJ McCarthy. I can tell
you this one thing about the LA Chargers. They are
battle tested, and they were the team who just eliminated

(13:08):
the three time MVP, the three time Super Bowl MVP,
and the best quarterback in the world, Patrick Mahomes at
Arrowhead last weekend. They go into Dallas against arguably the
worst defense in the league this side of the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Chargers on the season eight and six Ats. I
love what I've seen so far of them this year

(13:30):
four and two on the road, and this is a
game they have to win because there's a lot of
good teams right now vying for wildcard spots. The Buffalo Bills,
the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
By the way, don't count out those Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
I saw him last weekend with Grandpa Philip Rivers coming
out of a five year retirement. I'm gonna go with
the LA Super Chargers. I can't say San Diego anymore,
but the Chargers. Give me the Bolts in this game.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
I love.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
I can't believe they are getting points two and a half.
I think they win the game on the field, but
I'll take the points anyway. Jim Harbaugh, Justin Herbert and
this team, Quinton Johnston, they get it done. Hopefully a
Ronde Gatson junior doesn't have any more drops. I'm gonna
take the Chargers in Jerry World coming up early kick

(14:19):
on Sunday and give me the Chargers. I love his
team and everything that Jim Harbaugh. He's got his culture
in there. It's year two and you could see it
and don't be surprised. Maybe if Justin Herbert can finally
get that proverbial monkey off his back and make a

(14:40):
run in the playoffs, He's not a big game, QB.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
You gotta do it, and.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
You gotta close out the regular season strong and then
get ready for the playoffs in January. Must win for
the Chargers. Cowboys have like a one point five percent
chance to make it. Their season is over. I'll take
to Chargers plus the points. Bet it now, thank me later.
Coming up next the blowouts. We've got a lot for

Speaker 3 (16:17):
You got going on right now at Paramount sports dot
com and they can give you a call at one
eight hundred, four hundred nine to seven, four to one.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
Yeah, well, if they want to get to every single
game we've gotten, we still have like twenty five twenty
six bowl games, plus two weeks two rounds of the
college football bowl games and three weeks of the NFL
normally three to ninety seven. If you use coupon code
save one hundred, just two hundred and ninety seven dollars
comes out for less than one hundred and fifty dollars

(16:47):
a week. There's games every single day from now through
the December thirty first, and this is my phone service.
This is my top service. We rate the game from
ten to fifteen units, so you know how strong to
play each game. Just call phone number once a day.
Here every single game on a tape and we won
twelve in the last fifteen weeks in the NFL and

(17:07):
college football over the weekend. So love to have someone
try me if you've never been with me before. And
the games come out early weekdays, you have at least
four or five hours for the first game, not like
they come out fifteen to twenty minutes beforehand. And then
on the weekend Saturday and Sundays, they're up by five
point thirty in the morning Pacific time. So we're ready

(17:28):
to go and looking to help you out. And hopefully
you're happy and you come with us for other sports
or you tell other people about us Paramount sports dot com.
You can always call me here at the office eight
hundred four hundred nine seven four one.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
All right, that is awesome.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
Yeah, let me ask you this, how do you when
you people can go to your site and get your service,
how do you approach betting and handicapping bowl gamesly.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
Okay, So it takes a little bit longer than ten
fifteen years. You have to look and find out every
single player that's opting out yea. And with so many
coaches getting fired, I think we're up in the twenties now.
So what you have to do is you have to
find out who's coaching the game, what coaches stayed behind. Also,
there's a lot of state championship games, you know, going on,

(18:18):
so a lot of these coaches and coaching staffs are
going to these games. There's a couple teams in bowls.
There are two teams that actually they had grad assistance
running a couple practices. So you know, you got to
find out these things. And you can find out, believe
it or not, some of these things on Twitter and
x and you know, googling things on the internet. So

(18:38):
just takes a little bit of time. And also on
top of that, you got to look at underdogs normally
during the regular season college football. Just take the point
if I'm taking an underdog Bowl season, if you like
an underdog, you better put a quarter to a third
of year wager on the money line because you can
see double digits, underdogs end up winning the game outright

(18:59):
all the time. And lastly, probably the most important thing
is if you don't like a wager, don't bet the game.
There's gonna be one or two more games that day.
Wait till the next day. I write notes, and believe
it or not, with a lot of these backup quarterbacks
playing in a lot of these bowl games, take notes
and this way I can come out firing once the

(19:20):
season starts next year.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
In college football, and one of the things you mentioned
about coach getting fighter, what about coaches leaving like Lane
Kiff And we've never seen this before. Lee a coach
leaving and he's not going to be able to coach
the team that he just led to eleven in one
season and they berth in.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
The College Football Playoff. That's crazy.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
And his offensive coordinator, Charlie Weis junior who's coming with
Lane to LSU, is going to be coaching. Conversely, the
guy that was the interim coach at LSU was hired
by Ole Miss last Wilson.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
So this is a little bit weird as well.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
And then there's some talk out there about Trinidad Chambliss,
the starting quarterback for all miss and whether or not
he was gonna consider playing.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Like, dude, it's the playoff. I get it.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
If you're in the freaking salad Ball or the toilet Bowl,
you don't play. I love that kid. He's got such
a bright future. You're in, to quote Jim Morris Senior,
the playoffs. You're in the playoffs. You've got to play.
And so I hope that was just some sort of
clickbait article that I that that I looked at. But yeah,

(20:30):
I mean, this is this is big time. You've got
to you gotta get ready, and this is why you
play sports, is to win championships. Coming up and the
the beginning of our lock segment, I want to get
to the future of bowl games because I have a
nickname for them and it has a March Madness spin

(20:50):
to it. We'll get to that coming up. All right,
we're gonna start the blowout segment. I'm gonna do this
right now. And wow, uh you talk about a must
win and I told you about the LA Chargers and
then Nina must win. Well, the Detroit Lions after another
loss to Jared Goff's former team and former coach Sean

(21:14):
McVay and.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
The Rams, the Lions right now.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
They are in a predicament Lee They're a zero I
repeat zero, margin four error coming up on Sunday. Luckily
for them, this is a team that puts up points.
They put up thirty four on the road at so
far against Stafford and the Rams on Sunday. They put

(21:39):
a forty four the week before against the Dallas Cowboys.
So this team can score, and they can score at will.
And I don't like Dan Campbell calling the plays, but
it is what it is. They get Aaron Rodgers and
the Pittsburgh Steelers and DK Metcalf in a Ford field
on Sunday. This to me, I was gonna put this
as a lock. This is blowout. Whatever you want to do.

(22:01):
Lions team total over twenty eight and a half points.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
I don't care if it's twenty eight and a half.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
I won't say thirty eight and a half, but I
don't even care if it's twenty nine, twenty nine and
a half. The Lions over team total twenty eight and
a half points. Bennett, Now, thank me later, Huge game
for Goff. I'm on Ross Saint Brown, Jamison Williams and
Jamier Gibbs and the Lions will win. This game and

(22:29):
help out Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens who are
fighting with the Steelers for that AFC North Divisional title.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
Yeah, so gonna come back with a player prop here.
I know that's your special Yeah. I think I know
these two teams know Oregon well and also James Madison,
And I'm gonna look at running back Noah Whittington for
the Oregon Ducks. They haven't met eighty two and a
half rushing yards. I think there's a huge discrepancy and
talent here no Whittington. During the regular season, you know

(23:01):
he's gonna get your you know, twelve to fifteen, fourteen
to seventeen carries.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
But in a.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Playoff game, teams like Oregon, they want to make sure
they get to win. They're gonna up that usage here,
and so I see them giving him the ball early.
And I also see James Madison. They don't want to
give up the big play. I think they're gonna have
their safeties roll back a lot. And what does that
mean Where sometimes he might get five six yards, he's

(23:26):
gonna get fifteen twenty yards. So he's gonna break off
at least two three plays of at least fifteen to
twenty yards. I think he might get there by the
end of the third quarter. And then if they get up,
you know, they're gonna not gonna want to, you know,
take a chance by throwing the ball all around the yard.
They'll just keep handling the ball off and eating up
clock getting to next week. And so I like Noah

(23:49):
Whittington here over eighty two and a half rushing yards.
I know Jordan Davidson another good running back, but Whittington's
their guy, and they're gonna go to him early and often,
and they want to make sure, you know, they get
this win. And also he's one of these guys that
doesn't fumble also once the game goes on. So no
Whittington over eighty two and a half rushing yards for

(24:11):
the Oregon Ducks tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
All right, I'm gonna say it right there, because that's
my second blowout. I'm going with the Ducks as well
at Otson Stadium in Eugene. I mean, this is what
you're watching here, Really are the Probes versus the Joe's
James Madison. I mean, come on, to have a group
of five teams in and it would have been such
a better playoffs. If Notre Dame and Texas would be

(24:36):
in over jmu in Twulane.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Nonetheless, though they gotta let it.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
You know everybody in they could be violating antitrust laws
if they don't. Okay, whatever, Well, guess what, James Madison,
You're gonna see what big boy football looks like up close.
You mentioned Jordan Whittington. How about the tight end Lee
ken Yon Sadik, a guy who's the highest rated tight

(25:00):
end and April's NFL Draft, he's got Dante Moore throwing
to him. I absolutely love It's gonna be blowout city.
I think Dan Lanning and the Ducks will be up
by this number, which is twenty and a half twenty one,
depending where you get your action. I think they're gonna
be covering at halftime, and I think it's only gonna

(25:21):
get uglier than Rosie O'Donnell in the second half.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Give me the Ducks all day long.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Quack quack quack, Dantae Moore, Jordan Winnington, Kenyon Sadiq and
this defense. I mean Oregon, they now they understood Dan
Lanning understood when he came over to Oregon from you know,
being one of Kirby's Smart's assistants at Georgia.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
He knows what it looks like.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
And you have to be elite, and you have to
win in the trenches, not only on the O line,
but on the D line.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
And this team is unfreaking vable.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
I saw them up close a few weeks ago against
the Washington Huskies and they look great.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
So give me the Oregon Ducks.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
They will quack, quack and smack down JM.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
You like they stole something big time? Bet it now?
Thank me later.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
Oregon Ducks blowout City MIAs twenty and a half, twenty
one over JMU.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
Yep, I like it, and also one of the toughest
venues to play in a long, long, long road trip.
So thank you know what, Our Miami Hurricanes didn't have
to play in Eugene, Oregon, and Mario didn't have to,
you know, face his old team. So I'd rather, you know,
Mario go and play at Texas A and M, where
he's been before. Now I'm gonna come back and play

(26:47):
another believe it or not player prop and I found
one in the NFL that I love, CJ. Stroud, So
he's gonna be facing your dreadful Las Vegas Raiders. And
how bad have the Raiders pinned? Well, they can't score.
And what happens is teams take the early lead, they

(27:09):
run the football against them, do whatever they want, and
then the last quarter they just eat up clock. So
what does that mean? CEJ. Stroud under thirty two and
a half pass attempts. I don't think they want to
throw the ball over the yard like they've had to
in a couple of games just to stay alive. They
want to get that offensive line in the running game
working marks the running back of the rookie out. Yeah,

(27:34):
also have a couple other guys that they move in there,
So don't be surprised if they run the ball thirty
five to forty times in this game. So I expect
Houston to run and use the running game to set
up play action and then once they get that probably
seventeen to twenty four point lead, they'll just run out
the clock here. So, like I said, a lot of

(27:54):
people love to play over and touchdown passes. They love
to play over in yards, but also play over under
in the number of attempts here and people love to
play over, But this to me is a dead bang under. CJ.
Stroud under thirty two and a half pass attempts against
your dreaded, dreadful Las Vegas Raiders.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Oh well they're not my Raiders.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
But I see what you mean to people who might
still be cheering for Gino Smith in Seattle. Yeah, I
uh wow, that's got to be a painful, painful team
to root for.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
That is really really bad. Lee.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
Another thing, too, is that I like how you went
player props. What what made you decide to go my way?
Because I tell you, man, I uh, this was sort
of you know, I'm not a big fantasy guy, but
I guess I sorted in because I gotten a player
props a few years ago, and I've just had so
much success and I'm like, well, I'd rather like this

(28:49):
to me. Last week, as you know, Lee, I had
three player prop bets. I had actually four. I gave
out one on the air, George Kittle over forty nine
and a half receiving yards easy cover. I had Josh
Allen over one and a half touchdown passes.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
He had three easy cover.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
Sam Darnold over two hundred and thirty five and a
half passing yards over the Colts ended up being an
easy cover, and Jackson Smith and Jigba, a guy who wow.
And he was coming off that horrible game a couple
of weeks ago against the the Vikings when we only

(29:28):
had twenty three receiving yards, had just a ninety two
the week before against Atlanta, and he had over the
ninety eight and a half receiving yards. So I hit
all four player props last week. I just decided him, like,
hey man, this might be my thing. This could be
sort of my wheelhouse here. I still look at sides
and totals, but I'm a PPM, I'm a player prop master,

(29:53):
I'm a PPG, a player prop guru, and so I'm
gonna stick with what I know. And I got some
big time I'm player props coming up Nexte in our segment,
we will close out the show. I'm picking the locks,
brought to you by FanDuel Sportsbook, Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort.
I've got not one, not two, but three player props

(30:15):
for you to win money on this weekend in the
n f L. All that coming up next with Lee
Sterling from Paramount Sports dot Com.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
I'm MJ.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Mark James from MJ in the Midday on Seattle Sports
Leader ninety three to three kJ r f M The
locks coming up next right here on picking the Locks?

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Are you looking for a lock this weekend? You've come
to the right place. Now back to picking the Locks
with Mark James and Lee Sterling, brought to you by
the FanDuel Sports Book at sue Quamish Clearwater Casino Resort
on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FL.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Final segment on Picking the Locks brought to you by
FanDuel Sportsbook, Suquamish Clearwater Resort. Here in the Seattle area
PNWIMMJ from MJ and the Midday on Seattle Sports Leader
ninety three three KGRFM from ten am to one pm
Monday through Friday, along with my great producer who produces
this show, Christopher Kidd kid always does a great job

(31:17):
with us, Lee Sterling from Paramount Sports dot Com. Lee,
Before we get into our picks, I just want to
hit upon one thing. And when you look at March Madness,
you got the tournament. Sixty four Now sixty eight teams
are in the tournament. They're talking about even adding more,
which I am not a fan of. I think at
that point it becomes water down. But if you don't

(31:39):
make in the tournament you go to what is known
as the NIIT. So that being said, we have a
twelve team playoff field, second year in existence. Hopefully we'll
add and expand next year to sixteen teams. I think
sixteen is good for a while before we start getting
to twenty. But for the teams who don't make the
college football playoffs, to me, if you have the ni

(32:02):
since you have the NIT in college basketball, to me,
I call the bowl games that are non playoff games
the NIP not in playoffs. I mean, come on, and
pretty soon, you know, Lee, You're gonna look at these
games and yeah, I'm you know, happy, because we are
the flagship station for the Washington Huskies and they had

(32:23):
a nice blowout win over Boise State last Saturday night
in LA.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
But for the most partly, why are we playing these games?

Speaker 3 (32:32):
If in sport, the thing that you want to do
is win a championship. Are we gonna have a tournament
in the NFL for the Raiders, the Saints and the
Giants and the Bengals and the teams won't be making
the playoffs? No, So I think maybe not next year
or the year after, We're gonna start to see a

(32:54):
lot of these Bowl games possibly come to an end
by schools. Notre Dame's not playing in one, Iowa State's
not playing in one. It costs schools money to go
and travel. Do you see that being a trend in
the future.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
Maybe a few games, you know, might get get the clip,
but I think we're still going to see these Bowl
games and they got I think the biggest thing is
you got guys that are projected like fifth, sixth, seventh
round that are skipping out based on, you know, advice
from their agents. So you know, you see it in
high school, there's guys that have you know, they got agents,

(33:29):
trying to get the money going into college, and you know,
I think that there should be you know, starting at
that level, they've got to have some type of you know,
tests they've got to pass because you know, what they're
doing is I mean, I'm hearing cases where guys are
coming into colleges and telling, oh, I got this offer
from here, this offer from there, and they're out right

(33:50):
line and they're not doing the kid, you know justice.
So I think there's got to be a level, you know,
of of knowing what you're doing, and you've got to
have Hey, you go you pass college, you got to
pass certain tests. You want to be some type of
an agent, and then iel agent, let's pass tests. And
then you know you're telling guys also that are also

(34:11):
agents for players going to the pros to skip out
on the bulls if they don't get let's say a
first or second round grade, I think they should be
playing in the Bowls. So, I mean there's a lot
of games I said, not only coaches not playing. Now
quarterbacks on both sides, starting quarterbacks, and I mean there's
guys opting out with a couple of games to go
in the season. Happened at Miami of Ohio. Whoever gave

(34:32):
this kid to Kwan Finn the advice to skip out
on the rest of the season, trust me, he's not
going to get drafted. So it's a little sad, but
I still enjoy the enjoy the bowl games. Some of
the greatest games. You know, we've seen some comebacks over
the years, Teams down twenty eight to thirty thirty five
points come back and tie the game. So you know,
it gives you something to do over the holidays. You know,

(34:53):
you got some some relatives in can watch him bet
the Bowls. So like I said, it's just more opportun
tunities for us to make money.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
There are speaking of opportunities to make money, it's time
for us for our number one segment, the locks right
here on picking Locks, brought to you by fan Duel Sportsbook,
Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort Lee. I know you've got a
couple lead us off, and I know one of them
is tomorrow night at Soldier Field Packers.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
Bears.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
Yeah, no one saw this coming. No one saw the
Chicago Bears leading the division this late in the season.
But things have happened. You know. Obviously, Detroit's had some
injuries on defense, really tough schedule, and Chicago's winning all
the close games. Now Green Bay, what are they gonna
do on defense without Michael Parsons Last week against bo Nicks,

(35:47):
not even a sack, not even close. Chicago's Caleb Williams.
He also, he's got good wheels and it's gonna be
tough to get to him without Michael Parsons. So maybe
Chicago's catch Green Bay here at the right time. Also,
Christian Watson, there by, I think by far their best receiver,
best speed guy, great hands and first game what he did,

(36:11):
you know, crossing the field. They were trying to match
him up on the safeties on Chicago, and what do
they do. He ends up scoring two touchdowns. But he's
not one hundred percent. He went out last week in
the game, So you're you're gonna be without your best
player on defense, probably if not your second or third
best player on offense, or if not, he's going to

(36:31):
be limited. Chicago. I thought that they were gonna tie
that game and go it to overtime. Caleb Williams. You know,
some people say it wasn't a great call, the play
action on fourth and one from ten to eleven yard line.
I actually loved the call. He just waited too late
to deliver the ball and just were way short or
else the guy's just standing in their end zone could
have called a fair catch. So since Week nine, the

(36:54):
Bears are number two in EPA per rush attempt, number
two in rushing success rate. You look at their center
and their two guards. Their top six, all three guys,
and last year all three guys were in the bottom five.
They are road graders here. First game, what did they do?
The Bears threw the ball thirty five times in this game.

(37:17):
I think they're gonna run the ball. They only ran
it twenty seven times in the first game. I think
you're gonna see that flip. I think they run the
ball thirty five to thirty eight times and only throw
it twenty to twenty five times here, So you're gonna
see some ground and pound and the Bears are gonna
stretch out the lead to one and a half games
the two games left. Ere, we're gonna go with our
first lock of the show, Chicago Bears twenty eight to

(37:39):
twenty over the Packers.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
All right, give us your next one.

Speaker 4 (37:43):
Yeah, next one. We're gonna look at the Houston Texans
and they're gonna be playing the Las Vegas Raiders. So
look to the player prop there we are looking at
the under number of pass attempts for CJ. Stroud. Well,
why not play the game? Also, the r on offense
two times in the last two months have been shut out,

(38:04):
and we're not just talking about shutout. October nineteenth, against Denver,
they had ninety five total yards, not rushing yards or
passing yards. Ninety five total yards. They were zero for
seven on third down conversions. Then last week against Philly
they did that even worse, seventy five, just seventy five

(38:24):
total yards. In fact, the only averaged one point eight
yards per play. So this offense is horrific. Here, their route,
an offensive coordinator, the fired Tip Kelly. They just can't
do anything on offense. So on top of that, I
always think it's in a mistake to draft a running
back number one. They drafted Ashton Genti number six. Overall.

(38:46):
What has he done so far? Nothing? Nothing forty two
sixty fourteen fifty thirty one, thirty and thirty five rushing
yards the last seven games? Did Pete Carrol here forgot
the memo to everyone in the league, not the drafter
running back until the third or the fourth round. Here, Houston,

(39:07):
nice workman like easy win here Houston thirty one ten.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
All right, I like it, all right, I'm gonna go
right now.

Speaker 3 (39:15):
And I told you I got some player props and
so that's what I'm gonna go with.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
And this is easy.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
I mean, this one could be my best bet of
the entire weekend ever. Ever, I mean like, this is
one of my strongest plays of the weekend, maybe one
of my strongest plays of the year. I mean, listen,
the Cincinnati Bengals defense dead lasts in the NFL in
rushing yards given up per game, they're giving up nearly
one hundred and sixty one hundred and fifty eight exactly

(39:42):
rushing yards per game. Well, look at Devon ah Chan
and what he has done for the Miami Dolphins, and
he's been absolutely unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
Last couple of weeks held a little.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Bit in check, but now you want to have two
a tongue of Iiloa throwing picks all over the field
because he's not playing. He got bench for seventh round
rookie quarterback Quinn Years out of Texas.

Speaker 2 (40:04):
They should have done this a long time ago.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
But when Devon e Chan gets his time, he's averaging
eighty five rushing yards a game. There was a stretch
for three straight games against the Bills, the Commanders, and
the Saints. He rushed for a Bucks seventy four one
twenty and one hundred and thirty four rushing yards. A
couple weeks ago against the Jets ninety two. Well, I
think it's gonna be a very heavy usage rate by

(40:30):
Mike McDaniel. Devon eighth chan rushing yards total is eighty
one and a half. Go way over that. I think
he'll have that covered by halftime. Bet it now, wait
for it, wait for it, thank me later. Now I'm
gonna go to Dallas big game. I gave you the

(40:51):
Chargers earlier as an underdog at Jerry World. I'm still
sticking with it. But I one thing. I am the
player prop guru. I am the player prop master, and
this is too easy. I'm gonna give you a couple
of the rest of my locks right here, right now,
because they're both from the same game. Dak Prescott is
a guy who's a volume passer, and that's what you

(41:12):
want when you're playing player props, fantasy football, whatever. He's
averaging two hundred and eighty one passing yards per game
his last four games against the Eagles, Chiefs, Lions, and
Vikings a Brian Flores coach defense. Three point fifty four
against Philly, three twenty against Andy Reid, three seventy six

(41:34):
against Detroit, and two ninety four against Brian Flores Vikings defense.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
Dallas right now is desperate.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
They're playing out their stranged guys need to put numbers
up big time, and I think that Brian Schottenheimer.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
Is going to put the ball up big time.

Speaker 3 (41:49):
Give me Dak Prescott easy over two hundred and fifty
and a half passing yards per game. And while you're there,
give me his number one target who actually will show up?
And I'm not talking about George Pickens. Some games he will,
some games he won't. Give me his number one guy.
There's a reason he wears that great number eighty eight

(42:12):
that Michael Irvin used to wear. Ceed Lamb receiving yards
total in this game seventy five and a half easy cover.
Give me Dak Prescott over two fifteen and a half
passing yard, Ceed Lamb way over seventy five and a
half receiving yards and those eighth chm Prescott and Lamb
my three locks of the week.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
What do you got to wrap it uply?

Speaker 4 (42:35):
All right, I'm gonna go with you and running rebels here.
This game is on Tuesday, It's the Frisco Bowl, and
I know you and LV was disappointed they had a
game against Spoise State trying to win the Mount West
Conference didn't happen. But now they can take out some
of that aggression against a lesson seller Ohio defense. Ohio

(42:57):
really has played absolutely no one this year, totally different
level of talent here. They ranked just outside the top
fifty in points allowed, which is fine, but their yards
per play numbers both on the ground and the air
actually rank them closer to one hundred. Here. They didn't
compensate by forcing turnovers, so this really is just a

(43:18):
defense that has a lot of things to work on. UNLV,
on the other hand, a powerful running attack. They averaged
almost five point seven yards per carry, good for tenth
in the country. Add in a top forty passing attack.
They played a high pace here. We know Ohio ended
up firing their head coach, Brian Smith, So you don't

(43:38):
think these guys are gonna be sitting in the hotel
and talking about it with their other teammates and their families.
Absolutely here, defensive coordinator John Howser is going to coach
this game. But I think it's a very very small
chance they keep around anyone from the staff here, Locke
here on Tuesday night in the Frisco ball here, UNLV

(43:59):
big probably by two or three touchdowns over Ohio. All right,
Daddy Morley, No, that's it, all right, good one, all.

Speaker 3 (44:08):
Right, those are them, So you've got it. I hope
everybody has a great weekend again. Devon ah Chan over
big time Ceedee Lamb receiving yards over Dak Prescott two
hundred and fifteen and a half passing yards. He will
go over that by the middle of the third quarter.
No problem that. I'm going to say this too on

(44:29):
behalf of Lee Sterling Gokaines tomorrow, nine o'clock kick locally
here in Seattle on the PNW. My flight lands in Sonny, Tampa,
Saint Pete tomorrow about ten forty five in the morning,
which gives me an hour and fifteen minutes to get
to Saint Pete to watch the kickoff. I think Miami,
and I'm not just saying I've never given out any

(44:51):
picks all season long on the Hurricanes. I believe I'm
supremely confident Miami will handle business on the field and
take the three and a half. You won't need it,
take the Canes over A and M. So we appreciate
everyone joining us. Hope you have a great weekend. Lee

(45:11):
and I won't be back next Friday, but we back
the following week once we get right before the new
year and the final regular season week for the NFL.
I believe Week eighteen nineteen, whatever it is, so for
leasting from Paramount Sports dot Com. I am Mark James
MJ and the Midday from Sports Radio ninety three to

(45:33):
three KJRTM, Seattle Sports Leader. We hope you have an
unbelievable weekend. Bet responsibly, Lee and I. We both had
winning weekends last week. We expect nothing less this weekend.
Have a great one. We'll talk to you in two weeks,
right before the New year. Right here on Picking Locks,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
