Speaker 1 (00:00):
Your home for college football Saturdays and the NFL presents
Picking the Loves with Mark James and Lee Sterling, brought
to you by the fan Duel Sports Book at Suquamish
Clearwater Casino Resort. We're getting you ready for the weekends
games with Lee Sterling. Here's your host, Mark James.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
It's Picking the Locks Friday Night, December twelfth. Mark James
from MJ in the Midday on Sports Radio ninety three
to three KJRFM, Seattle sports Leader along with the great
Lee Sterling, Best sports Ady Kaper on the planet from
Paramount Sports. You can check out his website Paramount sports
dot com. And well, one of the things that Lee

(00:45):
and I have been very stressed about for over five
weeks into the sixth week, and thankfully it went our way,
but it didn't look good for over five weeks. The
College Football Playoff Selection Committee who came out with their
rankings going way back to right after Halloween, I want

(01:07):
to say, beginning of November, and that was coming off
a loss that Miami had a November first, so that's
exactly what it was. They lost as a ten and
a half point road favorite to SMU. Horrible calls Rev's
costs from the game. Then the playoff Committee comes out
on the fourth and Miami had lost two of their
previous three games, so they had started out at number

(01:29):
eighteen and for five weeks Notre Dame was in front
of Miami and the chairman of the Playoff Committee, Hunter Yurchek, said, well,
they can't be directly compared until they're side by side. Well,
then Conference Championship Saturday happened last weekend and Miami got
an early Christmas Hanukah gift from Texas Tech as they

(01:51):
came out, and I obviously I like that.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
I gave that out in Factor fiction that week.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Texas Tech came out as a huge favorite eleven and
a half twelve and a half depending where you got it,
and they smacked BYU so bad they sent them back
to Utah. Well Lee, And then, as a pleasant and
shocking surprise, Hunter Yurritchek in the committee, they got it right.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
They went with the Canes over Notre Dame.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I actually felt in a certain way that Notre Dame
should have gone over Alabama, who got absolutely dominated, should
have been shut out on Saturday in the SEC Championship
game to Georgia with three losses, but the committee got
it right going with the Miami Hurricanes. I hope that
we were gonna I don't know why Texas A and

(02:40):
m fell all the way to seven. To me, they
should have fallen to six in Miami should be going
to Ole Miss to play the Rebels without Lane Kiffen.
But nonetheless, Lee, what was your reaction when you saw
the selection ranking show and you saw them put that
University of Miami, beautiful, orange and green you out there
on Saturday morning?

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Well, I didn't actually see it, so I have to
be honest. Oh, that's driving in the car that I
had resigned myself that Miami was not going to get in,
and pleasantly surprised my brother, who God bless his soul,
nicest individual but just doesn't get all football and doesn't
get everything. He looks it up for me and sends

(03:22):
it to me literally when they're talking on the radio
and I'm listening that we're not getting in. Of course
he did chet GBT and AI had predicted we were
going to be out, so he sends me that I
was upset. Oh, and then literally five minutes later, I
started getting texts and calls and you were one of them. Yea,

(03:44):
so pleasantly surprised. I think they got it right. As
far as Mimi being in, not an Notre Dame fan,
haven't been for many years, I mean, going back. I
think I told you this story back to the seventies
as a kid, used to have to, well didn't have to,
but as a football fan, the only thing on before
the NFL Today show was Notre Dame highlights. I think

(04:06):
it was with Lindsay Nilson, and for a half hour
just basically stuffed down our throats and didn't enjoy it
and didn't want them to be in. But I think
that they were the better team, and I think they
deserve it to be in. Now. The Alabama fans can
say whatever they want. They played in the conference championship game.
We know that, Okay, I understand that, But right now,

(04:28):
Notre Dame beats him by two touchdowns. Alabama, Yeah, Alabama
beats Notre Dame. I mean Notre Dame beats Alabama by
two touchdowns, So you.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Know, I don't know if it would be that bad,
but I do believe Notre Dame is a better team
right now.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
I do believe that right Well, well, you predicted Oklahoma
State would win big. I predicted that Georgia was gonna
win thirty five twenty I told people, so I felt
pretty strong that Alabama. Obviously there was a few injuries
and things like that to Alabama, but hold on, hold
on up against Georgia.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Hold on back up. You said I predicted Oklahoma State.
They weren't anything.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Oh, I said, oh man.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Another day, Oh okay, yeah, I thought they would. But
then all of a sudden that you know, it didn't happen.
So I don't know what actually happened there, but uh
yeah uh. And then when it's all said and done,
the committee got it right.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
Yeah, they've got to make some changes. James Madison and
Tulane basically have no chance in these playoffs, so they
got to get the best twelve teams. And I think
eventually what we're going to see is maybe, well we
would have maybe seen it sooner Miami doesn't get in,
don't kid yourself. We might have seen Miami, Duke, North
Carolina and maybe one other team go to the Big

(05:47):
Ten within the next year, and teams like Florida s
Clemson a few others go to the SEC. But what
I'd like to see is I'd like to see like
four conferences with like twenty teams and then let's have
a twelve or sixteen team playoff. That's the way it
should be. And these other teams take nothing away from them.
They can play, you know, two three games against the

(06:09):
Division one teams, but let them have their own playoffs.
I think that's the way it needs to needs to
take place.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Well, there's certainly the system is still broken, and I
you know, it would have been nice for me. I mean,
you just can't say one thing. When you have James
Madison in two lane in there instead of Notre Dame
in Texas, you're not getting the twelve best teams.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
And here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Even if this thing expands lee, which I believe it will,
then you know, like you're still gonna get the seventeen
let's say it goes to sixteen, you're still gonna get seventeen,
eighteen and nineteen.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Being pissed off.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
You're never gonna make everyone happy all the time, no, right, no.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
But if you're seventeen, eighteen and nineteen, you got to
do it a little bit better.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
N exactly, all right, So so there it is. We're happy.
We get Texas A and M coming up a week
from Saturday, eleven o'clock local kick there in College Station.
But before we get to that, let's do what we
do every week, are underdog segment. Lee, you lead it
off for the big Army Navy game in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Well, the one player that everyone knows from both teams
is Navy quarterback Blake Corvett. Black Corvett is really good.
I mean, for the first time ever, they actually have
a passing game. But he hasn't been healthy for most
of the year. I mean, there is no denying when
he is fully healthy that their offense is really good.
But they haven't been as good as they have been

(07:35):
last year, and they're going to face an Army team
that actually has a pretty good defense. So a couple
of games they gave up some points, most specifically to
North Texas, but what does North Texas run spread offense?
They throw the football. They shut down Kansas State and
Manhattan and actually won the game twenty four to twenty one.

(07:57):
They had trouble against East Carolina, but other than that,
I mean, there's not one more game against the Division
one opponent where they gave up more than thirty points.
They know Navy's offense inside out. They both run the
same exact offenses. Maybe passes a little more this last year,
but Army's actually won three to the last five. They

(08:18):
did lose the only game, which was a blowout. The
other scores had been seventeen to eleven, twenty to seventeen, seventeen, thirteen,
and fifteen nothing. Last year thirty one to thirteen Navy
win was basically because Army turned them all over and
Navy was plus three and turn of a ratio, So
I doubt that that's gonna happen. I love Blake Corvats

(08:40):
as a player, but I just think that Army knows
him inside and out, and I think their defense is underrated.
And this is a neutral side game, So give me
the Army here plus the six and a half points.
I think it's a one possession game. Wouldn't shock me
if they win the game out right, all right.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
I'm gonna go to the NFL, and I'm gonna go
to the team that you know. Despite the fact that
I live in Seattle and I believe the Seahawks do
have the best defense in the NFL, but statistically that
defense belongs to a market that Seattle's arrival with in baseball,
and that's Houston with the Texans. And you saw what
they did on Sunday night to the Kansas City Chiefs,
just absolutely demoralizing them all game long. Patrick Mahomes had

(09:22):
three interceptions and they got after him all game with
Will Anderson Junior and Daniel Hunter and of course Darryl Stingley. Well,
the Arizona Cardinals, oh oh my. I mean watching this
team and obviously they're going to part ways after the season.
With quarterback Kyler Murray, he's not going to be playing
on Sunday, and justifiably so. But the Houston Texans this year, Lee,

(09:48):
when it comes to totals, and this is a number
all you need to know, thirteen games this year. Ten
of those thirteen games have gone under. So what I'm
doing though this Sunday, I'm taking the Arizona Cardinals team
total under sixteen points. So I'm gonna go Cardinals team

(10:11):
total under sixteen points. I don't even believe it'll be close.
I think that Demiko Ryans and his defense what they
like to do is they take it a pride upon
themselves to make sure that teams don't get above double digits,
and I don't think the Cardinals on the road are
going to be able to score over double digits over
But that gives you a little pad of sixteen sixteen

(10:33):
and a half. But I'm gonna just let's just call
it sixteen. I'm gonna go Arizona Cardinals team total under
sixteen points on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Okay. So I like it. And the reason I like
it is I do believe that I don't see this
Houston offense going crazy either. So right, low scoring game,
they're gonna stay on the field, So I doubt there's
going to be a backdoor touchdown involved in that game. Now,
I'm going to look at a certain player prop. You're
the master of the player prop.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
I do come up with some player props once in
a while, and I think I have one here in
Hunter Henry. So Hunter Henry is one of these guys
that when things are going good, he thrives. His total
here is three and a half receptions. Football Bills are
one of the best teams in the league, and look

(11:27):
it up at shutting down opponents tight ends, they eliminate
them from the game. Comes from Mike Rable. He's a
former linebacker here, so you're seeing a line you're like, oh,
three and a half. You know he's he's going to
be their guy because their receivers aren't great. They're good,
but not great, improved from last year. But all he
needs is four receptions here. That's easy. It's going to

(11:49):
be a tight game, you know, probably seven points either way.
But I think they're baiting here. So I think Hunter
Henry under three and a half receptions an easy winner here.
I just think it's going to be like a couple
other guys that have played them before, he's gonna be
two under receptions. So Hunter Henry under three and a

(12:11):
half receptions for the New England Patriots against Buffalo on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Well, it's funny that you mentioned that, Lee, because I'm
going to stay right there, and that's my pick for
this segment is where I look at the temperature, it's
gonna be seventy percent chance of rain and clement conditions
up in my former birth home where I was raised
there in New England at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. I

(12:36):
think it's going to be one of those miserable games.
And I think the total on this one is high,
and I think it's going to go under. I think
the New England Patriots will make this a twenty two,
twenty three to seventeen type game, and maybe that it's
flipped if Josh Allen and the Bills can get going.
But you're on the road, and remember remember that Sunday

(12:57):
night game. But this defense did Josh Allen in Orchard Park.
I'm not saying that Patriot's gonna win the game, but
that total is way too high, and.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
I'm gonna take the under on this game. On the
game total.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
I'm gonna go under fifty and a half total points
on this game. So, as my signature catch phrase goes,
take the under fifty and a half Bill's Patriots. Bet
it now, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it,

(13:31):
thank me later, and cash that ticket under fifty and
a half Bill's Patriots. It's gonna be one of those.
Really the team who runs the ball, which will more
than likely be the Patriots because they have a bet.
They have a defense the Bills do not. Bills have
a good pass defense, but their run defense is awful.

(13:52):
I can see Trayveon Henderson and Ramandre Stevenson having a
big day, but that Patriots defense will get after Josh
all in all game long. It's amazing the Bills were
able to kind of run rough shot in the post
Brady Belichick era, but that door is closed now and

(14:13):
it's not gonna be open for a while. That they
got Drake May, they've got Mike Rabel and this organization.
And guess what they brought back, Josh McDaniels. And Josh
McDaniel's most success he ever had his entire career. It's
the third time he's been the Patriots offensive coordinator and
he's won super Bowls in his first two ten years.

(14:37):
He's back as the OC and they've never been better.
And like I said, maybe the Bills pull off the upset, well,
depending on it's not really an upset you get depending
where you get the actions about one one and a half.
But I think this is going to be an undergame.
It's going to be ugly, it's and it's going to
lead to not many points being scored, to go under fifty.

(15:00):
And I have all right coming back on the other side,
we're gonna give you the blowouts. What we do for

about here as teams getting ready for the bowl games,
which I'll have a thought on that as well.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
What specials you got coming.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
Up, Well, we have what's called Double Down December. Then
get every single game from now through the end of
the month. We've got two weekends of college football playoffs,
got a couple obviously college bowls this weekend starting Tuesday.
Almost every single night there's bowl games, so you're going
to get over thirty one bowl games. You're going to
get also the rest of the football for this month,

(16:41):
three weekends of football, Thursday night games, all games on
Sunday and Monday. And we're on a thirty eight twenty
one and one run. So you'd like to give us
a try Double Down December. Use coupon code save one
hundred special for this show normally three ninety seven, two
hundred and ninety seven dollars for over three weeks of action,

(17:03):
just one place Paramount sports dot com.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
All right, So, obviously the only thing that matters when
it comes really to the college football postseason, and you know,
in March Madness refer to it as the tournament, so
but you can kind of call it that here as well,
because it's a single game, twelve team elimination tournament. Subject
to change maybe next year. There'll be sixteen, who knows. Nonetheless,

(17:28):
with that being said, Lee, there are other games out there.
There are bowl games, and which in March Madness or
during the month of March, we refer to as the nit.
So I'm going to call these games the nip which
are not in playoffs. Now that being said, I was

(17:51):
unaware that this bowl that was associated with the horrific,
lowly rated late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel used
to be called the Jimmy Kimmel Bowl. No wonder why
I don't even remember it or why would I even
pay attention to it. Now it's called the Bucks up
La Bowl, and it's between the Washington Huskies. We are

(18:13):
on the flagship for the Huskies Football Sports Radio ninety
three to three KJR FM. All right, so they're getting
ready tomorrow to face the Boise State Broncos, who of
course lost Ashton genty a year ago, but just won
their conference championship on Saturday versus UNLV. But Lee, usually

(18:36):
when teams go to bowl games, they want it for
those extra fifteen organized team practices, so you get ready
for next year. You'd have time for fifteen because it
was less than a week from last Saturday, so which
is crazy to me, but nonetheless, here we are. It's
going to be the only game on Saturday night primetime.

(18:58):
It's on NBC Boise State in Washington right now. Washington
started off as in I believe in eight to eight
and a half point favorites gone up to nine and
a half. I'm not touching the game, but isn't it
just weird the timing of these Bowl games and to
have it so suddenly after you know, Championship Saturday and
we like last weekend.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
Yeah, and then then they start up on Tuesday. Some
of these Bowl games, you know, the some of these
MAC teams and a American opponent. So yeah. The greatest
thing about wagering is some of the best wagers you
make or bet you don't place, so you don't have
to bet every single game, you know, So watch some
of these games. You might pick up some pointers. Some

(19:43):
of these teams are going to play younger players, you know.
We don't know what's going to go on with Washington. Washington.
I mean they beat them up the twenty twenty three
I think it was the first game of the season.
They beat up Boise State fifty six nineteen and they're
clearly the better team. But you know, we don't know
the situation of Jonah Coleman, their star running back. We

(20:04):
don't know Denzel Boston whether he's going to play or not,
or whether he's one hundred percent. Both tried to play
and played limited in their game against Oregon in the
last game, but they clearly we're not close to healthy.
So we don't know that the quarterback comes back for
Bois in the last game, Maddix Madson and they end
up winning the conference. So they're coming off an absolute high.

(20:25):
Sure they want to play and beat a team like
Washington who is a power for a conference team, but
I mean, you don't know where they're going to be mentally.
So like I said, this is just one of those
games I'm not going to play. There's so much going
on in all these bowls, Mark, I mean coaches that
the interim coaches for some teams opt outs, so you

(20:49):
got to keep track of it. Now, we've done extremely
well over the years, especially last year. I think we
were something like nineteen to nine in the Bulls. But
you know, there's a bunch of games that we pass on.
There are some situations you find out there's a couple
teams last year that had just positioned coaches or grad
assistants coaching the team for a couple of practices. Why

(21:11):
so their coaches and coordinators could go out and watch
some of these state title games and you know, maybe
get an eye on some players for next year, and
who knows, maybe flip some guys too. There's some guys
out there that haven't made final decisions. So a lot
going into it. So you got to keep in track
of it. And that's what that's what we do at
Paramount Sports, and I know you do it also. So

(21:34):
that's one of those games Boise State and Washington just
gonna lay off, watch the game, might even take my
wife out to dinner that night. She doesn't get to
go out to dinner football season too often. Take the
game and watch it later that night or the next morning.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
Yeah, no, that's what it is.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
Man.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
The nip I came up with that not in playoffs.
So the nip Bowl games, you like that, Lee, I
like it.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
I think it's good. And then some of the teams
what they do is they decide if they're you know,
not in the playoffs, like Notre Dame and some of
these other teams that have you know, the coaches stepped
down Kansas State and I was sate they're not even playing.
But it does hurt the development of players. I mean,
don't think that it doesn't getting those extra fifteen practices.

(22:17):
I go to the University Versy of Miami practices for
many many years and I would watch go to the spring,
I mean a spring prenk go to these practices for
the balls, and what would they do. They would have
a scrimmage the last week of like a week before
the game. Whoever they're playing with a third and four stringers,
all the freshmen, and all of a sudden you see
players that are like, wow, this kid the player never

(22:39):
saw him play before, saw him you know, in the fall,
and he had limited practice time against the better players,
and all of a sudden he's shining. And that's almost
like treated almost like a spring game. Sometimes.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
Yeah, I want to say this too, because one one
school who's gotten dragged all week long, and I want
to get your thoughts on this. Two Lee Notre Dame
that I've called it notre shame. They didn't get in
the playoffs. They took their ball or balls. It's providing
they have any and just said we're not gonna play
in a bowl game.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
Okay, whatever.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Now they're Athletic director Pete Bavaqua came out. He's going
on this nationwide self pity party tour and he said, well,
you know, I talked to Marcus Freeman, and the captains
don't want to play.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
I find that very hard to believe. I really do.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
You're telling me Jeremiah Love, who's up for the Heisman
tomorrow night, doesn't want to play one more game, you know,
I don't know against Michigan or Texas or whoever.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
They don't want to play. Really, you're telling me CJ.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Carr, who just got his first, you know, start this
season after taking over for Riley Leonard, you're telling me
he doesn't want to play. I just don't see it, Lee,
And I'm gonna tell you right now, I think Notre Dame.
They they look like a bunch of babies, and they
look like ass faces.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
They're showing their ass and their asses.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Their face, and they're looking like a bunch of petulant
prima donna is that didn't get their way at the
toy store. And the thing about Notre Dame, I kind
of say this when I say to you know, certain
females who all meet who you know, they might look
like fives, but they act like tens. They're nickel dimers.

(24:17):
Notre Dame is the five who acting like they're at ten.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
Yeah. I don't feel sorry for him.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
No either.

Speaker 4 (24:23):
You know, if it was one of the top five teams,
I thought my mind, would they're playing? Well? Absolutely, but
go playing the game. I don't think though Jeremiah Love
would have played in that game. I think a lot
of these guys who would have been first and second
round picks probably would have opted out. So you know, hey,
don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
When that says, all right, we're gonna start with blowouts here.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
So I'm gonna start us off here and I'm going
to go to Sunday and this is a huge game.
I mean, did you ever think going into week fourteen
that you would have a situation week fifteen.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
That both the Baltimo More.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Ravens and Kim's Seat Chiefs could be on the outside
looking in and miss the playoffs. Wow, didn't think Baltimore
would lose last week.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
At home at Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
But they have put themselves in an unenviable, precarious position. Well,
they go on the road and they face the Cincinnati Bengals,
and Lamar Jackson's just gonna basically have to do what
he did his first couple of years in the league
when he got his start after Joe Flacco left. And
he's gonna have to take over in this game, Lamar.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
If it's not the end.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
By the way, the Bengals actually have one of the
worst defenses, if not the worst statistical defense in the NFL. Well,
this is gonna be a big game for Lamar Jackson.
His rushing yard total is thirty and a half. I'm
going over, way over, Lamar Jackson. Player prop over thirty

(25:53):
one and a half rushing yards, Betett, Now wait for it,
wait for it. Thanked me later, Lamar Jackson over thirty
and a half rushing yards against the Bengals in Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
What do you got, Lee?

Speaker 4 (26:09):
All right, I'm going to take a look at the
Seattle Seahawks against the Indianapolis Colts. Well, if you watch
the Indianapolis game last Sunday, you're like, oh wow, as
soon as Danny Dimes went out, they were cooked. Now,
not that Riley Leonard didn't try, and he completed some
passes underneath, but it was a combination. I mean, he
just can't push the ball down the field, doesn't have

(26:31):
the expertise as a passer, and their defense was terrible.
I mean they have hit the wall. So he ends
up and he's limited with a spring pcl. So he's
just as questionable for the game. Behind him as Brent
Rippon been around a bunch of different teams. Not good enough.
Then they signed Philip Rivers. We don't know going into

(26:54):
the game. They might even lie and say, you know,
it's going to be Leonard, and they might even try
to start Philip Rivers, who hasn't started a game in
almost five years. Are they crazy? I don't care who
you are. I don't care how old you are. Even
if you're thirty five and you stop playing when you
were thirty, you can't just step in on the field

(27:16):
and all of a sudden play at that high of
a level. So the three losses for Seattle have come
to contenders in the playoffs by total of nine points.
Sam Darnold his best yards per attempt in the league
eight point nine yards per attempt here, and Seattle is
covered seven to eight and should be able to run
up the score against the team that I think that's

(27:37):
going to really struggle to remove the ball. Let's shot
at the Taylor and they're going to stack that line
eight nine guys on the line of scrimmage defense to
stop him. Less he can somehow have one of the
greatest games of all times. I think there's a Seattle
blowout here. I'm going to be very generous. I'm gonna
say Seattle wins thirty five to seven. It would shock

(27:58):
me if they get more than a field.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
I'm with you on that one, Lee, I'm with you there.
And speaking of blowouts, that said goes. I'm gonna go
player prop on this one right there? What you said,
Sam Donald, And you saw him get back on track,
especially in the second half last week after a rough
first half to where they were only able to put
up six points on the road against the Falcons in Atlanta.
His total passing yards in this game is two hundred

(28:23):
and thirty one and a half.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
And I just the Colts have no business.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
I mean, this is really it's almost like I'd have
more respect. Well I wouldn't have more respect, but I
would understand it.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
Lee.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
If the Colts just forfeited this game. The league probably
would understand.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
It, Roger Goodell and Park Avenue and at the NFL
headquarters wouldn't understand it. But they should just do just that.
And I think Sam Donald's gonna have a big day.
I think he's gonna have probably closed over two hundred
passing yards by halftime, and I think then Kenny Walker,
Zach Charbona, they're gonna run the ball, but Donald will
go over. I'd love to give you an over receiving

(29:00):
yards on Jackson Smith and Jigbub but it's not out
yet anywhere. I don't know why they have Tyler Warren
and Michael Pittman Jr. I've looked on so many sites,
but Jasn's not out there. So what I'm gonna do
is this. I'm gonna go with the guy who's thrown
at Jasn, Sam Darnald. Over two hundred and thirty one
and a half passing yards. That's an easy cover for me,

(29:22):
no doubt about it. And I'll throw when they come
out with the total. I don't know why it's out
there because Jasn isn't hurt, and neither are the only
person who's hurt. For the receivers for the Seattle Seahawks.
Who's on IR is Tory Horton.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
So I don't know why these aren't They're not out yet,
but nonetheless I can't find them anywhere. But yet Sam
Darnold's passing yards total is out there, so over two
hundred and thirty one and a half passing yards.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
This is Picking the Locks, brought to you by fan.

Locks coming up.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
Are you looking for a lock this weekend? You've come
to the right place. Now back to Picking the Locks
with Mark James and Lee Sterling, brought to you by
the Fan Duel Sports Book at Sir Kwamish Clearwater Casino
Resort on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.

It's picking the Locks, brought to you by Fan Duel
Sportsbooks on Kwamish Clearwater Casino Resort. Mark James from MJ
in the midday along with Lee Sterling from Paramount Sports
dot Com. You can check out his site Paramount Sports

Speaker 3 (31:05):
Lee.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
Before we get into the locks, which everybody waits for,
I am still in shock. Didn't have my bingo card
this week. Sharon Moore fired at Michigan.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (31:21):
Yeah, it's sending I mean shock waves everywhere. So I
think we could have anticipated, obviously the Penn State firing
that came a little earlier than most people would have expected.
But in some ways I think they might have held
off on this till after signing day.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
So oh, but but now these guys can get out
of their letter.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
Ten right right, I know, I know, but I think
they'll wait most of them until the holidays. Uh, some
will obviously opened it back up, so uh gonna be interesting.
This is definitely a prime job. This is clearly a
top to ten in college football.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
No question about it. That's insane. That's utterly insane that
that happened.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
Lee.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
I uh wow, I didn't think he was a great
coach to begin with. I kind of that was an
underwhelming replacement for Jim Harbaugh and and and and well
they get out of that, and now they when you're
fighting with Cause, guess what, you don't have any uh
you got no money to pay out for a buyout.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
No buyout when you when you fight with Cause, none. Right,
So and.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
It's great. I mean, this is this is Uh, there's
been a lot of speculation going on, but I have
a feeling we're not gonna have to wait a couple
of weeks. I think they're gonna they probably have it,
and I think they're gonna I think they're gonna target
someone uh smart you know smart ads. They've got a
list at all times of five different people or more

(32:54):
that they'd like to target and like to get and
you got to have that. And then there's some other
you know ads like Penn State a d where it
took him, you know, it seemed like two months to
find his guy. So then the Musical chairs what was
going on in the SEC. So I'm excited for it.
I think that's going to give them a much better coach.
I just didn't think they were competitive this year against

(33:16):
the best teams. And they get the right guy, they
could be right there with Ohio State and Oregon. I
don't know about next year, but certainly within two years.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
News that happened this week did not have that one
that prediction, but I'm not listen, hey, And remember they
didn't have a buy out with Jim Harbaugh either.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
He went to the NFL.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
So it's not like they're paying a bunch of different
coaching staffs like LSU is LSU's paying, you know, at
our Jeron Brian Kelly and Alane Kiffin.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
You don't have that at Michigan Michigan.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
So they got money to spend and they got no buyouts,
so that's really good for them. All right, Let's start
with are locks of the Weekly and I know you
got one.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
I gave you before on the Lamar Jackson over rushing
yards in I know you like something there on that
Ravens Bengals game.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
Let's give us your first two locks.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
So I'm going to give you Derek Henry and I
think that his over eighty eight and a half rushing
yards is as close as you can get to a lock.
Why do I say that they only have two active
running backs? Keaton Mitchell and Henry are the only guys
that were active last week. So it's not like they
have a deep stable backs and they can move in
guys here. They got a ton did the Ravens a

(34:39):
ton of you know what flack from the press. They
were killing them for not running enough, so they were
all over them for not running on a really bad
team last week and the Bengals, and I think you're
going to see a lot of running here in this game.
And you know, I really think that, you know, they've

(35:01):
got to I mean, they've got to protect Lamar Jackson.
Lamar Jackson is the supreme guy. He was obviously playing hurt.
He's got to let it go. I think both those
guys are keys to them, you know, at least staying
into the playoff fine here, So against Cincinnati in this game,
the worst rushing defense I've seen they're tackling is absolutely atrocious.

(35:25):
Trey Hendrickson's not coming back. He's done for the season.
They're loss last week I think kind of made them
fold up the tenth, So I think you're going to
see two offenses go back and forth. Defense will be
after optional here. You know, I like both Lamar Jackson
and also Derek Henry. Here are rushing totals over eighty
eight and a half. Rushing yards is my first lock.

(35:47):
All right, So another game I like a lot, and
I'm gonna look at the Kansas City Chiefs taking on
the LA Chargers. So the line is four and a
half and you're saying, wow, Chargers, much better team. If
they don't win the division, they're going to finish in second,
going to be a wild card. They won on Monday night. Well,

(36:07):
some things going against you. So Kent City last year
was winning every close game. Denver's like them this year.
Kent City this year one in six straight up in
games where they have had a final score seven points
or closer. That's right, one and six, just not winning
the close games here. The Chargers took down the Eagles

(36:29):
and put the Chiefs in an absolute hole here, so
it's a must win game. They lose this game, Dani'll
see them start playing some younger players, some guys that
are injured. They'll realize it's over and start wresting them.
But the Chargers team played great, especially the defense. They
made life really difficult for Jalen Hurts. I don't think

(36:49):
you're going to see Patrick Mahomes turn the ball over
five times like Jalen Hurts. So things haven't been great
the last couple of games from Patrick Mahomes. Play calling
has been real sharp, but I don't see him turning
it over five times at home. Jalen Hurts him fact
to one play had two turnovers. Chargers have got their

(37:09):
own quarterback issues here, justin Herbert, who's clearly compromised. He
was sacked seven times here. He was hit eleven times
in their Week one win. Herbert he did lit up
this Chiefs defense here for three hundred and eighteen yards
and three touchdowns. But now since then, their offensive line

(37:30):
is absolute shambles here, and Herbert really only has one
functioning hand here, his throwing hand. And to get them
together and to ask them to grind out another win
after a hard fought win against the champions from last year,
the Eagles here, this time it's going to be on
the road, and I just don't think the Chiefs can

(37:51):
afford more losses here. I don't see this game close here.
I think the Chiefs are going to score early and
often here I'm laying the four and a half points here.
I like the Kansas City Chiefs here in a blowout,
and I think this is gonna be my second lock here,
Chiefs over the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
All right, So I'm gonna go to Sofi Stadium where
you know there's been a lot of great games, and
you know we saw on Monday night between the Eagles
and Chargers went to overtime, but the Eagles took over
that stadium. Now the Rams have more of a fan
base than the Chargers, but not much more. So I'm
gonna go for my two locks on that game. And

(38:30):
I think this is gonna be an absolute shootout. I
really do. And the total started off really at like
forty seven and a half, then it went to fifty
one and a half, fifty two and a half. Now
it's up to fifty three and a half. I'm gonna
go over. I think both teams are gonna score plenty.
And you know, Jared Goff against his former team. The

(38:52):
Lions desperate, absolutely desperate. They need this one to make
the playoffs because they have to stay on the heels
of the Packers and the Bears in that NFC North Division.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
So I think this is gonna be a shootout big time.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Now that being said, Lee, I also in that game,
I'm gonna go. So my play on that is over
fifty three and a half Lions, Rams, bet it now,
thank me later. With that being said, I think the
Lions are gonna put up a lot of points. The Rams,
we've seen them. It's weird which Rams team's gonna show up.

(39:30):
The team that looks like one of the best defenses
in the NFL, or the team a few weeks ago
who went on the road down to Carolina gave up
thirty one points. So the Lions in this game, I
think the Lions are gonna put up a lot of points.
The team total on this for the Lions is twenty
three and a half. Now, when it comes to team

(39:51):
totals this year for the Detroit Lions, they either thirteen games,
eight have gone over. They scored forty four points against
the Cowboys last Thursday night and they gave up thirty.
That's what's gonna happen on Sunday. I'm not picking a winner,
but I A'm saying this. Give me the Lions team

(40:12):
total over twenty three and a half points, over on
the game at fifty three and a half total and
over on the Lions team total over twenty three and
a half points. All right, Lee, what's your final lock
of the week.

Speaker 4 (40:28):
All right, my final I'm gonna look at the Green
Bay in Denver game and some pluses for both teams.
Green Bay loved the play calling from their head coach
and thought that they really executed in their last couple
of games, especially last week against the Bears. So what
did they do? They were able to isolate the Chicago safeties.

(40:51):
One of the star safeties was out, so what did
they do? A lot of crossing patterns made those safeties
cover across the entire field and they weren't able to
do it. Masterful play calling. Thought they played at a
high level. Thought their running game got going when they
had to come up with a stop. They were able
to come up with that stop against Chicago Bears. But

(41:12):
they're coming off of three consecutive division games where they
won all of them. They're now sitting in first place
Denver a couple of weeks ago, they're playing Washington and
traveling on Monday night, and thought I saw some great
coaching by their coaches. What did they do? They realized
that Washington was gassed, so in overtime went to hurry

(41:35):
up and were able to score a touchdown and win
that game. Last week, thought that they looked really good.
And you know, this is a team that just wins
close games. I mean, you can't hold it against them.
Kansas City did it last year. Denver's the team this
year and what have they done? And their seven games,

(41:55):
they're six and one in games that are four points
or less. So just love this Denver defense here. I
think it's a top three defense and I think they're
catching Green Bay at the right time. Green Bay three
and six as a road favorite since last season, You're like, wait,
why is in Denver? Denveritely has two losses? Why is

(42:17):
the team with a better record at home and underdog? Well,
public loves green Bay here, they're still doubting Denver. So
green Bay three and six as a road favorite since
last year's season. Worse if you go back another year
three and eight, another two losses against the spread as
a road favorite. Even worse when you go back another

(42:38):
year four and ten against the spread and you go
back a fourth year, and they're six and thirteen against
the spread as a road favorite. So they're off these
three straight division games, and who do they have next?
Rematch against the Chicago Bears in Chicago. So this is
the one game they can lose. The games at over

(42:59):
five thousand feet altitude, you got to go there three
or four days to I think, get used to it,
and they could be sucking win late net game. Here,
give me Denver plus two and a half points here,
that's gonna be my third and final lock for the week.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
All right, So I was surveying the landscape, but what
I want to do and whether or not and I
love this. I mean, listen, you know one thing about
the San Francisco forty nine ers. They're like cockroaches. You
just can't kill them. I mean really, they they just
keep going. You know what, last year they were besieged
by injuries. This year, Rock Perdy was out for an
extended part of time beginning of the season, George Kittle

(43:37):
was on ir he came back. Then Bosa done for
the year, Fred Warner done for the year. But they
continue to keep coming and coming and coming. And I'm
going to tell you right now, I think that's going
to continue, and I think it's going to continue on
Sunday against arguably the worst team in the NFL, the

(43:58):
Tennessee Titans. They're at their confines of Levi's Stadium in
Santa Clara, and I just, you know, you gotta like
George Kittle what he's done. I'm looking at him and
Juwan Jennings, but both of them really and so I've been,
you know, liaman vasselating back and forth. But I'm gonna
go with George Kittle. I'm gonna go with the guy

(44:18):
that I believe one of the best tight ends in
the NFL. I think Brock Purty that's his safety net,
that's his safety blanket. Kittle player prop receiving yards total
over forty nine and a half versus the Tennessee Titans.
As my final lock of the week, George Kittle player
prop receiving yards total over forty nine and a half

(44:40):
versus the garbage trash Tennessee Titans. So again, if you
want Lee Sterlings VIP money picks, you can go to
Paramount Sports dot com or give them a call at
one eight hundred four hundred nine seven four one again
one eight hundred four hundred nine one next week for

(45:02):
Picking the Locks. Guess what, We're gonna have some picks
on the college football playoff games Miami at Texas, A
and m coming up. Uh, we'll be able to go
into that and some other Oklahoma Alabama, we got some
of that coming up.

Speaker 3 (45:19):
And of course Week fifteen of the NFL.
