brought to you by the fan Duel Sports Book at
Suquamash Clearwater Casino Resort. We're getting you ready for the
weekends games with Lee Sterling.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Here's your host, Mark James.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Hello everyone, and welcome to another show of Picking the
Locks right here on Seattle Sports Leader ninety three to
three kJ RFM, your home for the best talk when
it comes to sports gambling, and certainly there's a lot
of talk of sports gambling in Scannal, a major Scannal

(00:43):
rocking not only in the sports world, but really the
news world going on right now. My name is Mark James,
m a rc MJ and the Midday each and every
day from ten am to one pm right here on
KGr ninety three to three point three FM in Seattle,
along with the world's best sports any capper, Lee Sterling
from Paramount Sports dot com. Check out his website at

(01:06):
Paramount sports dot com. So before we get and we
always start the show each and every week. This is
the seventh episode. We appreciate everybody who's listening. The show
is growing we will hopefully knock on Wood be syndicated
in some upcoming markets in the not so distant future.
But before we get into our underdogs, our blowouts, and

(01:26):
of course the segment that everybody looks forward to each
and every week, our final segment, which we call the Locks, Lee,
I am. I did not have on my BINGO card
prior to this week waking up and finding out that
the FBI was indicting interesting A current NBA player in

(01:49):
Terry Rozier from the Miami Heat. You've been a Miami
Heat season ticket holder since before they were even called
the Heat, back in nineteen eighty seven. A guy who's
making twenty six million dollars a year right now for
the Charlotte Hornets, and uh sitting current NBA coach who
even coached the other night in Chauncey Billup, former NBA

(02:11):
Finals MVP, A Hall of Famer, currently inducted into my
hometown in Springfield, Massachusetts. Lee, what was your reaction when
you woke up on Thursday and you saw all of
this that was happening.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
I was just shocked. I mean, maybe maybe you get
something like this one thing that happens, but both things
totally independent and the depth of them. And I mean
we're not talking about a fringe player here. We're talking
about a guy that was the best player for Charlotte
Hornets for a number of years. And then another ex

(02:50):
player and current coach of an NBA team, you know,
to be involved in a mafia situation. This is just terrific.
It's mind boggling. And what they did, I mean, this
is this is even more than just for lots and
judgment if they're found guilty.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, And I spoke to had on MJ in the
midday this morning, former NBA quote rogue official that the
late David Stern called once called, and the guy that
was basically ostracized and completely castigated not only from the
NBA but really even society. Tim Donaghy on my show

(03:30):
this morning, and he said that this thing is only
going to get much worse before it even looks to
get better. And from this standpoint, you know, the one
leaguele that has always been questioned more than any other
league when it comes to referees calls in officiating is

(03:51):
the NBA. How eventually, now we don't know where this
story's gonna go, but obviously right now, this is a
permanent stain on the NBA. How will the NB or
will the NBA league that's actually not How will the
NBA ever be able to gain the trust and confidence

(04:13):
back of the fans and the public.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
I mean, they were just starting to gain the trust
back from the Tim Donoghan situation, and that was didn't happen,
you know, just yesterday. So it's a real big problem
and the problem for the NBA. Unlike the NFL Baseball,
you need multiple players probably in sports like that to
taint and to throw a result. In football, obviously it's

(04:41):
the quarterback that's probably the only guy because twenty two
players are on the field at one time. Baseball, the
margin for air from a home run to a foul
out is literally minischool So that is very, very tough
to fix. But basketball just five players on the court.

(05:01):
I've always said this from the start player props. They
need to move these limits way way down. You shouldn't
be able to bet thousands, make it seeing bet a
couple hundred dollars that teach.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Well, we'll be giving out you know me, I'm mister
player prop, and so I'll be giving out some of
those this week and had some success and you and
I collaborated on a couple of player prop bets last
weekend and hit on them. So hopefully, hopefully none of
these guys will Terry Rozier me this week and did
it hit the under?

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Hey? Lee, you know.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
You know one thing that I noticed though, just the
last thought on this is about Chauncey Billups. It's one
thing for Chauncey to tell everybody, Hey, you know what,
we're tanking. We're not going to play our top four
players against the bulls, and the guys go out and
bet a lot of money. That to me is tougher
to find. Obviously, the FBI needed surveillance subpoena power to

(05:56):
be able to find that. But when thirty that's are
placed randomly in a regular season game two years ago
and Blockxississippi and Louisiana thirty bets on unders on Terry
Rosier statistics and all thirty cover, well, that's kind of

(06:17):
a red flag.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
The only thing worse might have been in college baseball,
the gentleman who put his phone down and had the
phone number of the person he was talking to him,
I believe wanted to place a I think it was
one hundred thousand dollars wager on a college baseball game.
It was that LSU game. I think it was about
two years ago. So we found out the coach from

(06:42):
Alabama no longer coaching college baseball because he was giving
him information that gentleman. Obviously, the game was in the South,
and he's trying to bet a game in Ohio for
one hundred thousand dollars on a college baseball game. That's
obviously going to raise a lot of red flag. Finally,
it's not just a gambling here aspect of it. There's

(07:04):
more that goes even deeper. The NBA obviously didn't, from
what we're hearing, did what was going on in the
situation to the Miami Heat when they were about to
make this trade in twenty twenty three. So they're stuck
now with twenty six million of dead cap money that

(07:25):
they would love to use. And also they owe this
Charlotte Hornets a first round picking the t and twenty
seven draft. They don't want to cough that up now.
So there's going to be a lot lot more to
be heard on this situation.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
All right, Lee Starling joining us here on picking the locks. Okay, Lee,
let's get right into it, and you got a couple
games here for like you like to call wrong team favored.
Let's start tomorrow and you start us off with the
Houston Cougars versus the Arizona States des coming off that

(08:01):
huge upset over previously undefeated Texas Tech last weekend.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Yep, Sam Levitt came back and that was one of
the main reasons they were able to win. Didn't play great,
but one of the biggest things is he avoided turnovers,
so that will keep you in games. Here. Their defense
played a high level. They were at home, the crowd
was really into it. Texas Tech obviously played their worst game.

(08:27):
Now you get a Houston team who has a very
good defense with Fritz their head coach, I think is
very well respected here. And they have a quarterback Connor Wegman.
At one point he was a starting quarterback and annoying.
It is maybe the next great Texas A and M
quarterback quarterback in the Houston Cougars. He can push the

(08:47):
ball down the field here. This is a great set
up here. Arizona State off a big win. I still
don't think we know what Arizona State is all about.
They're so up and down. Give me the seven and
a half points. I think Houston wins this game straight up.
Run team favorite Houston Cougar's plus seven and a half
is to play here.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
All right, there you go. I'm going to go for
an underdog segment. I'm going to go to the NFL. Now,
the one of the teams who's had certainly that nobody expected,
certainly not me, the brightest season, and a guy who
a lot of people are talking about for MVP right
now in Drake May. The New England Patriots, who are

(09:26):
red hot. They're in first place in the AFC East.
The Bills have fallen. Patriots went in a Buffalo a
couple weeks ago on a Sunday night and shut them down.
Bills lost the following week at Atlanta, so they they're
in a spot right now. They cannot afford to lose
three in a row. New England facing the Cleveland Browns
and Cleveland nice win last week. First the Cleveland you

(09:49):
know for Cleveland Browns. Of course they weren't playing a
good team in the Miami Dolphins. But the Patriots have
one of the best run defenses in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
That's what Mike Rabel.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
This team Prize itself on they are at home early
kick in Foxborough one o'clock Eastern Standard time. Quin Shawn
Judkins has been one of the best rookies in the NFL.
But I gotta tell you it's a tough number, but
it's a lower number. Quinn show Jenkins averages seventy about
seventy eight rushing yards a game. The total on this

(10:21):
player prop is sixty six and a half. I know
it's a little lower. I feel better if it was
seventy two and a half. Nonetheless, I have faith in
the Patriots. I think they're gonna shut down Quinn Shod Judkins,
and they're gonna try to make rookie quarterback Dylan Gabriel
beat them. So I'm gonna go Quinn Sean Judkins under

(10:43):
sixty six and a half rushing yards on that one.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
What do you got Nextly?

Speaker 4 (10:50):
All right, the next game I'm gonna look at is
a game in the NFL, and I really like this game.
It is the Tennessee Titans. So everyone is falling in
love with the Indianapolis Colts and I've been riding them too,
But we're probably going to see regression. When do you
see it? The most? Usually in inner division games, especially

(11:12):
after you've already beaten that team on their home field.
In that game the first game, Tennessee missed two field
goals that contributed to the game. Since that time, Tennessee
has fired their head coach. They've simplified the playbook. They
look great the first couple drives last week. They just
need to follow up on it. I still think that
Indianapolis has some holes on defense. I think you're going

(11:34):
to see him make some trades here as we get
close to the trade deadline. And how about this, Indianapolis
has gone from twenty two points per game last year
to thirty three points per game this year. They're not
going to be able to keep up at that level here.
I think they'll win the game something like thirty to
twenty three. But I'm taking Tennessee here in all those

(11:56):
double digit points.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
All right, let's go to the NFL for me, and
we're going to go down to Houston. I got to
see this Texans team play up close on Monday night
when they were here in Seattle against the Seahawks. They lost,
but they do have arguably the best defense in the NFL,
asked Sam Darnold. They strip sacked him in the end zone.
Will Anderson recovered on a touchdown. These guys are rough

(12:21):
and they are tough. And Daniel Hunter Darryl Stingley Junior. Now,
when this line opened up, the Texans were getting a
point and a half. Well, there's been some movement now
depending on where you find it. Texans right now. You know,
before we were doing the show tonight, Lee, As I
woke up this morning, when I went to bed last night,
the Texans were a one and a half point favorite.

(12:42):
Now it's at two. There's a reason for that, and
it's what I like to call the trap line. This
is a trap line what the odds makers and books
are trying to get the public to do. Joe Q
public with his twenty five dollars ticket at Caesar's Palace
in Vegas. They want you to take forty nine Ers
because they're the better team. Forty nine Ers have struggled. Now,

(13:03):
they struggled. They lost at Tampa. They struggled. It's weird.
They're great within their division, they're undefeating their division, but
they've lost to Jacksonville and they lost at Tampa. They're
on the road for this game, and now with the Texans,
originally being the underdog, now they're a favorite. Well, originally
the wrong team was favored, now the right team is favored.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
I'm laying the points one and a half to two.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
You better bet it tonight because this thing could go
up to three by Sunday. Give me the Texans minus
one and a half to two over the forty nine
ers at home. They cannot afford to lose this game,
all right. Coming up next, we've got our blowouts, and
we've got a lot of them. You can always check

(13:50):
out Lee's site, Paramount sports dot com. If you want
to pay for his big time money VIP picks, you
can call him at one eight hundred, four hundred nine
to seven for one. That's Paramount Sports. That's where the
the paying customers they get even more. But we are
giving you our best picks here as well. So blowouts

(14:11):
coming up next right here on Picking the Locks, brought
to you by fan Dual Sportsbook to Quamish Clearwater Casino
Resort on ninety three to three KJR at them.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Are you looking for a lock this weekend? You've come
to the right place. Now back to Picking the Locks
with Mark James and Lee Sterling brought to you by
the Fan Duel Sports Book ats Kwamish Clearwater Casino Resort
on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
Picking the Locks right here on Sports Radio ninety three
three KGRFM, Seattle, your home for the best sports gambling
show on the planet, and we are moving at a
rapid pace. Here in episode seven, MJ from MJ in
the Midday every day ten am to one pm Monday
through Friar on ninety three to three KJRFM, along with

(15:02):
Lee Sterling from Paramount Sports dot Com. Of course, we
were sponsored by Fan Dual Sportsbooks, Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort.
Now Lee, one of the things I've noticed so far
when it comes to college football, which is kind of
like what it's been for a while, is that nobody's safe.

(15:24):
And last weekend we found that out you and I. Unfortunately,
our Miami Hurricanes, previously undefeated, number two team in the
country five and zero, took the loss at home, coming
off a bye to Louisville. Also last week, you look
at a team like Ole Miss, they were well, they
got up big early against Georgia, could not sustain and

(15:49):
they suffered their first loss of the season and a
high scoring at fair. I actually nailed that on this show.
The over on this show, which is fifty six and
a half, Georgia almost got up to fifty six points
by themselves. So from what you have looked at early
in the college football season, I think one thing is
for sure. They're really even Ohio State and I got

(16:12):
to see them up close here about three weeks ago
in Seattle against the University of Washington, the Huskies and
Tamon Williams. They look really good. But there are no
dominant teams in college football this year. I think this
is a wide open of a season that has ever been.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
Oh it's right. Yeah, Like I said, it is wide open,
but there are some good teams. I think Texas A
and M is also a complete team when you're at home.
You know Washington was able to stay with Ohio State
for a half. You know, you got the crowd, you
got the momentum. You don't have to travel. Team is
traveling east West and two or three times Z it

(16:53):
does matter. So that's why it's so competitive in the SEC.
These teams aren't traveling three or four thousand miles to play.
We're seeing much more varied results. In the Big ten
here so far over the last couple of years, with
all these teams in the travel so it is a lot.
But in the end, generally the teams have the most

(17:15):
talent and the most depth and the best coaching, they're
gonna win out. So you would think though, it's just
like baseball. There's teams like the Yankees, they spend a
lot of money, teams like Texas Longhorns spending right up there,
top three in the country, can't get it done. You
still have to evaluate talent. You know.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Another thing tou Lee and Nick Saban brought this up
this week is that this nil and I'm paraphrasing coach
Saban here, who's the greatest college football coach in my lifetime,
is that he said that this nil thing, you've got
rich alumni with deep pockets. That has led to Billy
Napier got fired last weekend, the weekend before James Franklin

(17:54):
at Penn State got fired. Florida Penn State is open.
A couple weeks prior to that, Sam Pittman at Arkansas
was fired. Prior to that, to Sean Foster at UCLA
was fired. So we are now seeing that there is
not really a lot of patience and latitudely for these
coaches that if you're not successful pretty quickly, you don't

(18:19):
have a lot of time. You don't get that benefit
of the doubt, the way that Duke basketball did with
a guy by the name of Mike Krzyzewski back in
the early eighties, who I believe his first three or
four seasons he had a losing record. The athletic director
at that time stuck with him, obviously the greatest decision

(18:42):
in Duke's school history. But now you're seeing that and Lee,
I mean, Florida State, that's gonna be open at the
end of the year. Auburn they've gone off to an
zero to three start for the third year in a
row under Hugh Freeze. That's gonna be an open job.
Some other jobs we don't see, we don't know right
now could also be open. Hell, I mean, you know,

(19:03):
there are rumors here in Seattle about Jeed Fish's future.
Maybe the University of Washington job is open at the
end of the season.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Not saying that it is, but you just don't know.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
So there is a constant turnover, which like when coaches
are getting fired from power flow programs during the season
prior to Halloween. Penn State, Arkansas, Florida, UCLA. That's I
don't think I've ever seen that before.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Lee, Well, you have to hit the ground running. So
with a portal here, it gives you an opportunity to
turn things around quicker. You know, I was growing up,
everything was at minimum of a four year usually a
five year plan. Sometimes you know, they just cut the
cord after a year or two. So you got to
get the right guys and the right position. You got

(19:52):
to evaluate talent, and you got to have the right scheme. So,
you know, if this is what the world's all about,
everyone wants to have that satisfaction and they want to
turn around these teams. If you're five and seven to
one year, they expect you to go seven and five
your first year.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Board, no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
All Right, well, now what for our second segment we
like to do is the blowouts. So here we go, Lee,
you're the Battle of the Jayhawks State. Well, well some
people call it Wildcat State, but Kansas Kansas at home
minus three versus the Kansas State Wildcats.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
So it's called the Sunflower Showdown, and Kansas State is
absolutely dominated this matchup in fact, they've won sixteen straight games.
And we used to see a situation here where Kansas
State they were much better and their head coach, Bill
Snyder used to run up the score big time. But

(20:55):
it's gotten a little bit tighter here. I do think
that Kansas has the quarterback Jalen Daniels and the head
coaches in Lance Leipehold that can pull the upset. We're
seeing a regression here in this Kansas State team. Avery Johnson.
He's okay, at best, middle of the pack in the
mid seventies and most major statistical categories as a quarterback.

(21:18):
Since that Iowa State game that they played overseas to
start the season, they've already had their top deep threat.
He defected. He ended up leaving the program, Chris Clime.
It looks like his recruiting has gone by the wayside.
And their defense in the fourth quarter they used to
get better as the game went on. They're giving up
ten points per game in the fourth quarter alone on average.

(21:39):
So I think it finally ends. We're going to see
Kansas at home finally raise the trophy here. They are
going to be Sunflyer Sunflower State champions. Finally Kansas Jayhawks
here all Special thirty one to twenty one over Kansas State.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
All right, I'm going to go to Eugene, Oregon. And
we know the last time, you know, the Ducks were
playing at home or a few weeks ago, they got
upset at home by Kurt Signetti Fernana Mendoza in the
Indiana Hoosiers.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
But they have since rebounded.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
They win on the road, huge blowout win on the
road versus Greg Chiano and Rutgers. Now this game, you
are laying a lot of points in this. So if
you want to if you're feeling like, hey, you know what, Yeah,
I'm willing to go with Oregon minus thirty one and a half.
And I'm not saying it's not good, but you know what,
I feel better about. I feel better about the team
total seen at thirty seven and a half to thirty

(22:32):
eight take away the game against Indiana and in the
other three games the Oregon Ducks are averaging fifty six
points a game at home. Well, this is one of
those games. I'm very confident and comfortable. Thirty seven and
a half thirty eight points. I'm gonna go Oregon. Team

(22:53):
total over thirty seven and a half to thirty eight
points in this game all So next one, I'm gonna
go to the Pros. This one's gonna be a major
blowout to me. Cowboys at the Broncos. Cowboys can light
it up, but they're an over dream. They can light

(23:14):
it up, and yet they have the worst defense in
the NFL that can give up over forty points. Now,
Denver has a really great defense, arguably one of the
best along with the Texans and the Seahawks. Nonetheless, Dak
Prescott is having a envyp statistical type season, and I
believe points will be scored glow. Hey, remember one thing

(23:36):
about the Broncos league Last week they.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Give up thirty two points to a rookie quarterback at home.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
Dak is having arguably his best statistical year of his
entire decade plus career. The numbers fifty one, I'm gonna
go over on the Cowboys Broncos fifty one. By the way,
Cowboys so far this year even two on overs, I'm
going over. I think Ceedee Lamb, George Pickens, and of

(24:05):
course Javonte Williams are gonna have big games. But I
believe the Broncos as well. There's gonna be a lot
of points fifty one. I know that's a lot in
the NFL, but I don't think it'll be a lot
in this game. Go over fifty one in that game?
All right, Lee, what do you got next?

Speaker 4 (24:21):
All Right? The last game we're going to look at
here in our blowout is going to be the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers. And you're like, well, why are going to
we gonna play here? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They're coming
off of a loss. Well, let's look at their opponent,
the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans Saints have lost the
heart and soul of their team. Just like in baseball,

(24:41):
you got a catcher, you got a pitcher and a
center fielder, three most important players. And what's going on
here with this New Orleans Saints team. Well they've lost
their center and Eric McCoy, and lost their top two
running backs here in Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller. Yeah,
kill them more credit. Spencer Ratler only won interception this year.

(25:03):
But they need some semblance of a running game. They
need to have balance to be able to just hang
with Tampa Bay. I mean, if you're in long downs
and distance situations against this defense, you are in trouble.
They will blitch you. They have the quarnerbacks that can
make plays on the ball and get interceptions. We know
Baker Mayfield right now is one of the best quarterbacks

(25:25):
in the NFL. I think he's playing at a high level.
He's without Mike Evans, but they still have enough and
they use both of their backs out of the backfield. Also,
their tight ends otten playing better the last couple of weeks.
And I just think also special teams could be a
factor here also, So I'm gonna go with a blowout special.
Lion seems kind of low here at four and a

(25:48):
half all out special Tampa Bay Buccaneers twenty eight to
seventeen over the Saints.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
All right, very nice there, Lee's feeling big time blog.
You know the Saints, man, they are, Yeah, they certainly
are not the team.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
They're already on the clock.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
All right, I'm gonna give one more blowout special here.
And last week Lee knows, I Lee knows that I
was really good on my player props last week. But
one of them that I placed on my own was
Bjean Robinson on Monday Night Football to go over on
rushing yards versus San Francisco forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
That did not happen.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
Unfortunately, Bijon got held in check by that vaunted Niners defense.
Even without Nick Bosa and without Fred Warner, it didn't matter.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Bijeon was held to forty rushing yards.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
Well, let me tell you something right now, this is
what we call a get right game. Bjeon Robinson's averaging
over eighty seven rushing yards a game. They're at home
versus the worst rush defense in the NFL, The Miami
Dolphins are giving up one hundred and fifty nine.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Rushds a game.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Numbers big on Bijon, Big ninety and a half to
ninety one and a half. I don't really care. I
think he's gonna hit triple figures. I'm gonna go over
b Jean Robinson ninety and a half, ninety one, ninety
one and a half. It doesn't matter if that numbers
shouldn't even come close.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
He should be over one hundred yards.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
I expect him to at least have seventy five by
halftime against this porous Dolphins defense, which is giving up
one hundred and fifty nine rushing yards a game, worst
in the n f L. So I'm gonna take b
Jean Robinson on that one, and Lee, you know you've

(27:41):
seen this team up close down there in Miami. How
bad is this Dolphins defense, especially against the run?

Speaker 4 (27:48):
Well, I mean they drafted a player in the first
round and he's the bottom five and as as far
as production, as far as based on the grading Pro
Football Focus, so you know, they're just not getting the
job done. Syler is even having an off season, so
they have no backups there. The linebackers not big enough,

(28:10):
strong enough, so even in the secondary they can't tackle.
So probably every single cornerback that sees the field wouldn't
make any other roster. So Chris Greer has just done
a really poor job of putting together this roster. And
ijon ninety yards, that's low here. We just saw Rico

(28:31):
Downe he put up two hundred and five yards two
weeks ago. I think he's going to have one hundred
and thirty two one hundred and eighty yards in this
game rushing.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
Molly, you know, when you go with me on my
player props, you do pretty good, right, would.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
Have pretty good. We might be taking a vacation to
the islands here, or you're on the West coast now,
so or maybe to Hawaii.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
There we go.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
You know, I've never been in Mexico, so we can
go down to Cancun. We unfortunately hate to see is
because it hurts and I'm hurting. We can we can
go join the Mariners down in Cancun because they're down there.

Speaker 4 (29:05):
Now, Okay, as we go to well, the Maurners, the
miners can go to kan Kun. We'll go to Acopoco.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
All right, yeah, absolutely, all right.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
Coming up next the segment you've all been waiting for
right here on Picking the Locks, uh, brought to you
by FanDuel Sports Books, Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort, The Locks.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
We have that for you.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
Coming up next right here, MJ Lee Sterling Picking the
Locks Sports Radio ninety three three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Are you looking for a lock this weekend? You've come
to the right place. Now back to Picking the Locks
with Mark James and Lee Sterling, brought to you by
the Fan Duel Sports Book ats Quamish clear Water Casino
Resort on Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
It's Picking the Locks, brought to you by Fan Dual
Sports Books, Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort, Mark James aka MJ
from MJ in the midday each and every day on
Seattle Sports Leader ninety three to three KJRFM, ten am
to one pm, along with the best sports any gapper
in America, Lee Startling from Paramount Sports dot com. If

(30:06):
you want Lee's big money VIP picks, you go to
Paramount Sports dot com or you can call one eight hundred,
four hundred ninety seven four to one. He had a
great weekend last weekend on the NFL, so he's looking
forward to hopefully capitalizing on that and continuing that momentum
of course tomorrow with a college football slate and then

(30:28):
again on Sunday. All right, Lee, before we get into
our locks is what everybody's waiting for here. What have
you noticed about teams coming in and out of the
bye weeks and how they performed?

Speaker 4 (30:45):
Well, most people think, you know, you're going to go
into a bye week and you're gonna come out hole.
You're going to get some players back who were injured.
You're also going to be refreshed. You can put in
some game plans. Bottom line is, though they get these
players off three or four days to recoup and they're
going home to families, they take vacations and the numbers

(31:08):
just don't bear it out. How about this team's coming
off of a buy since twenty eleven, one hundred and eleven,
one hundred and forty and nine. That's forty four point
two percent.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
If you're betting now, now, hold on, he's off of
a buck leave.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Is that college in NFL?

Speaker 4 (31:28):
No, just NFL the NFL, okay, so just NFL. You know,
with college, a lot of times you have a team
you know they could have been playing on a Tuesday, uh,
and then they have a buy. It's a little tougher
to evaluate and pinpoint numbers and days rests. But the
bottom line is, if you're betting teams off of a

(31:48):
buy in the NFL, forty four point two percent probably
living under a bridge. So something that taken into into account.
If you're thinking of taking any of these teams thinking
all of a sudden they're going to go from having
trouble to all of a sudden, you know, playing much better.
And also we've seen many teams go into the buy
and they have trouble.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
No question, Yeah, they're they're definitely Hey listen, even on
the college side, Miami was coming out of a bye
against Louisville a week ago on Friday night, and look
what happened. They were two touchdown favorite, and they completely
wet the bed and Louisville went in down a hard
rock stadium and knocked off the previously undefeated Hurricanes. So

(32:29):
you know, we've seen it even when it comes to
college football, which to me is inexcusable.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
All right, Lee, let's start with the locks. You already
on blowouts.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
You did the sunflower Seed whatever the hell shu showdown
in Kansas. But now it's the battle of Well, I
guess they what would they call? I mean the state
of you know, American cars. Michigan Michigan State two touchdown underdog,
fourteen and a half points. But they're at home versus

(32:59):
they're hated Michigan Wolverines, who are coming off a big
win last weekend at home versus Demon Williams. They intercepted
him three times in the Washington Huskies, Michigan State getting
fourteen and a half. You and I got killed on
a horrible backdoor cover the other way last week when
Indiana was looking to close out and then Michigan State,

(33:22):
Michigan State comes down the fields with a backup quarterback
and less than seventy five seconds and kicks a field
goal at the end to kill our cover. That's neither
here nor there Michigan State plus fourteen and a half
versus the Wolverines.

Speaker 4 (33:36):
Who do you like a little more here nor there
than most people would think, because obviously it stinks when
you lose a game like that, when they dominated and
they could have scored earlier on another field goal, they
went for it early in the fourth quarter. So Indiana
is a good team. One of these teams, I think

(33:56):
it's going to be Indiana and in Ohio State in
the end, then you have maybe a team like Michigan.
And what happens with these lines. They base the lines
based on what they see last week, and the public
takes a hold of and watches and also what's happened
in the last month or so. So last week Michigan

(34:17):
at home, it was tied at half, close game, but
in the second half they took over give them credit,
a pick six all of a sudden changed the game.
They end up winning by seventeen points at home. Remember
at home against the Washington team that's had trouble traveling
cross country in the two years that they've been in
the Big Ten. Now they're going to play a Michigan

(34:39):
State team that has lost four straight. Three of the four, though,
have been on the road, and they've actually covered three
of those four games. Now they're coming home. They're playing
big brother, and I'm the big brother. I know when
I used to play against my brother, we used to
sit in the front yard and go one on one
all day long. He's going to give me his best

(35:01):
effort and play harder and go faster than he's ever
gone before. So I think you're going to see a
really good effort from Michigan State because they are at home.
Their defense is the problem. They've given up thirty two
point two points per game, giving up six point two
yards per play. That ranks one hundred and nineteenth in

(35:22):
the country. But defense is about effort. It's about giving
that extra ten to twenty percent getting up off the
ground when you're knocked down, maybe still chasing the quarterback.
Maybe it goes from being a sack and you hold
them to a one or two yard game. So I
think the crowd is going to be a big factor here.

(35:42):
I think this line should be like nine and a
half to ten points because of Michigan looking so good
last week, and the public perceives them as right under
Indiana and Ohio State. They have them laying fourteen and
a half points on the road, So I think Michigan
State will be in this game here. I like their
quarterback Aiden Shiles. He can push the ball down the field.

(36:04):
He might have been brought in as a savior by
Jonathan Smith. Jonathan Smith, head coach. He needed one game
in this rivalry to get it under belt, so he
understands what it's all about here. I think this game
goes right down to the wire here. This is going
to be my first lock of the show here. Michigan
sat plus fourteen and a half. I think this is

(36:27):
a one possession game.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
All right.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
And then your next one in the SEC Arkansas at
home versus Auburn. Arkansas a one point favorite. But have
we seen with Auburn. Yeah, they've been the victim of
the worst calls in college football. Matter of fact, I
mentioned this to Tim Donahey. The referee that screwed them
in their game versus Georgia has been permanently suspended by

(36:52):
the SEC. Me he's done forever. They're on the road
in Fayetteville. This could be perhaps the Gus Malluson game
he used to coach Auburn.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Maybe his next school could be Arkansas.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
Arkansas a one point favorite with Bobby Patrino and Taylor Green.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
Well, there was no denying the game against Oklahoma was
poorly called. There was four or five horrific calls there.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
Leave the game against Georgia was worse, and that entire
game change when they.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Scored and they overruled that.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
And then later on the game Kirby smart clearly calls
time out and then he convinces that dumb ass referee
and his three blind mice, the three stooges, that oh,
I was just clapping my hands and they went for it.
I mean, these guys, it'd be laughable if it wasn't
so pathetic. So but again, Arkansas right now, clearly their

(37:48):
next thing is who they're going to hire for their
next coach.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
So, but Bobby Patrino can put up points.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
Yeah he can. And you also have to factor into
this equation weather. It looks like it's going to be
rainy there, and I think you got to have a
quarterback here that can make plays. And I think Arkansas
has the better quarterback here. I mean, I'm not saying
that Jackson Arnold is terrible. He can still run, but

(38:18):
Taylor Green he makes one cut even in bad weather,
and he is off to the races here. So I'm
not a lover of you, Freeze. Even though all those
calls went against him. You got to find a way
to rally your team here. In that game where they
had the bad call to the goal line, they should
have been up seventeen. Nothing. His team did absolutely nothing

(38:39):
second half, didn't cross midfield. So that's on the coach
quarterback that he's partially the blame here too. Last couple
of weeks, Arkansas's lost by just three points in each game,
so we're seeing a maximum effort from them here. Maybe
Alburn is, you know, starting to throw it in here,

(38:59):
so you Freeze. I think he's living on bart time
even through all these bad calls. Don't like his play
calling here. He was known at one time and Ole
miss is one of these great play callers. I'm just
not saying here. So I'm going to take Arkansas here
a small spot here. It's gonna be my second lock
of the day. Arkansas razorbacks over the unlucky and hapless

(39:22):
Auburn Tigers.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
All right, I'm gonna stay in the SEC. This is
one of the biggest games of the weekend. Two six
and one teams facing each other. Vanderbilt a two and
a half point favorite versus Eli Drinkwitz, Bo Prebulah and
the Missouri Tigers who won last weekend at Jerden Hair
Stadium in that primetime showdown versus Auburn Diego Pavia. This

(39:44):
guy is you know, he's Johnny Manzel with class.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
He just this guy.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
You watch this guy and anybody to take the a
team that was a perennial bottom feeder for decades in Vanderbilt,
a team that was just favored in their first SEC
game versus LSU a couple of weeks ago for the
first time since nineteen seventy eight. This is a big
spot for Vandy. I believe in him. I love Clark Lee.

(40:14):
I hope Clark Lee stays at vander but I know
they don't have the money that Penn State does. Maybe
he could follow in his predecessor, James Franklin's footsteps and
listen to Penn State or Florida or any other school,
because this guy is certainly proving to be one of
the best college football.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
Coaches in the country. I'm taking the doors.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
Give me Diego Pavia and Vanderbilt lay the points. Give
me Vanderbilt minus two and a half. They're four and
two ats against the spread this season. I think Vanderbilt
wins a big one. What do you got for your
last Lockley?

Speaker 4 (40:50):
It's gonna be my favorite player of the weekend. And
I'm gonna take a look at the green Bay Packers
and Pittsburgh Steelers, and some people are saying, well, to
be green Bay. They have the best player on the field,
and Michael Parsons no denying that. Here's a guy that
one man wrecking crew. Last weekend he had three sacks.

(41:10):
But other than that, I can't name one other player
that's playing well on defense. I think they have bottom
five cornerbacks. Sometimes they're there, they're in position, they can't
make the play. Then you have their offense. Since the
week one against Detroit, what have they done when they
punched Detroit in the face. Absolutely nothing since that time.

(41:31):
Jordan Love not impressed with him at all. Since then,
they're wide receivers. They have no number twos. I think
they have a bunch of threes. Guys that just fill
out the roster here. And on top of that, they're
going to face Mike Comlin. Mike Comlin ten and four
as a home dog or a small favorite the last

(41:53):
three years. And to go with that, you have Aaron Rogers.
He said he's at peace now with what took place. Well,
why he's not with the Jets anymore. No, I prepare
like crazy here for this game. Give me Pittsburgh here.
I think they win this game here, twenty eight to
twenty my strongest lock of the week.

Speaker 3 (42:17):
All right, this is my strongest lock of the week.
I'm gonna go player prop wise, and no, I don't.
I didn't get tipped off by this guy like Terry
Rozier did to his friends.

Speaker 2 (42:26):
I'm gonna go over though.

Speaker 3 (42:27):
I just I'm befuddled and that this total is so
low because the Denver Broncos are going against the worst
defense in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys, I mean Dallas
Cowboys are an absolute sieve. They're an over cover dream
special because they score a lot of points and they

(42:47):
give up even more. Courtland Sutton in this game, we're
talking about a guy who's one of the best wide
receivers in the NFL. He's had a really good season.
He only had one down game. You look at him
versus this Cowboys defense, which to me is an absolute joke.
I am shocked. Courtland Sutton's over in this game is

(43:11):
fifty seven and a half to fifty eight receiving yards.
This should be covered in the first half with Boonick
throwing him the ball against this Cowboys defense, He's gonna
want to eat the way the guys on the other side.

Speaker 2 (43:25):
Well, the only thing is the guys on the other
side are.

Speaker 3 (43:28):
Gonna be going up against a really good defense led
by Patrick sartan junior.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
Cowboys don't have that. I Lee.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
You talk about lines that the odds makers get wrong,
This to me is one of those lines. How is
Courtland Sutton only fifty seven and a half total on
his receiving yards? Give me the over, way over Courtland Sutton.
And you know what I like to say, betett now,

(43:56):
wait for it, wait for me. Yeah, the hold on,
let me wait for wait for it, Thank me later,
bet it now, thank me later. Courtland Sutton over on
that fifty seven and a half over receiving yards.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
That to me is the easiest cover of the weekend.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
