Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Gambline, Philly's home for all things sports, gambling, Picks
and Roll, Handicapping the Hardwood with Sixers insider Sean Bernard
and Sean Brace.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It's the return of Tobias Harris and where's Darryl Mori at?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Hello everybody, Good good day to you.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
It is another edition of Picks and Roll, Chan Brace,
Sean Bernard with you here.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
A lot to discuss in the world of the NBA
front and center. I'll think seventy six ers.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
We hit on a little bit yesterday, and I'm sure
our brain's got a little bit more going over the
next few hours. And of course conversation taking place on
the timeline extended some of those thoughts. But Sean, I'm
really intrigued to hear where you're at after what Nick
Nurse had to say. And of course I know that
there were a lot of people that were disappointed.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
In his tone. I saw one outlet's say he snapped.
I didn't get that.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
But it's where we're at present day with the Philadelphia
seventy six How you doing today, Sean.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Yeah, I can't complain if we got an exciting day
of basketball. The much awaited return of Tobias Harris to
Philadelphia here, and of course the NBA finally taking care
of business and sending a fine in the Sixers direction
for their management of Joel Embiidle or I guess the
verbiage surrounding is really the issue here.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
So I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
I don't feel too differently from yesterday after the investigations concluded. Overall,
I think this could end up being a good thing
for the Sixers from the standpoint that, like the pot
has been stirred, there are eyes on them and they're
gonna have to approach things a little more clearly from here.
But still the same frustrations that there is not any
sort of transparency. I do think Nick Nurse should have
handled himself much better than what was the case of

(01:42):
the podium there. I get his frustrations because again, this
is not him making the decision, and this is something
I'm sure is incredibly frustrated to not have the best
player available for reasons that if he even knows at
this point, so I get it, but I think he
should be a little bit more prepared for those situations
and expect that to be coming, because that is the
most pressing issue with the six Ers team. So I
wouldn't go as far as snap, but I was not

(02:04):
really thrilled with the way that he went about that really.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
So we'll get into Shams' tweet too, because there's definitely
some stuff there to unpack. But you know, we talked
about it because I think it happened, especially like right
before we went live, and I think it was something.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Along the lines of it.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
It's a it's a concoction of frustration from Nick Nurse.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
It's a concoction of.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Hey man, I got a job to do, like talk
to me about the players that we have here front office,
probably hanging them out to dry a little bit, you know,
Like I just think it's all into one. And I
don't think it was James Franklin esque where he was
kind of like, you know, like you know, whiny and weasley.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
I just thought it was like, guys, what else do
you want?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Oh? By the way, plus they were being fined one
hundred thousand dollars, which is a big damn deal.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
So and by the way, investigation not concluded at that point,
which is more reason to be a little more tight
lipped with things to give him a little bit of
you know, benefit it out here all right, all.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Right, right, So as far as that is concerned, what
was your takeaway with Shams and what he had to
say as far as his tweet, because I think that
was that was very interesting, he said. Quote sources said
the NBA's investigation showed that the Sixers did not violate
player participation policy with the beads miss games, but in

(03:24):
fact with the public comments that did not properly reflect
his health issues with his knee.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Your thoughts on.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
That, I think it kind of confirms that there's something
going on here that this isn't just you know, ramping
up and you know, staying fresh, that there's some sort
of issue going on with Joelle's knee. Now, I think
the honest reality here is this is a forever thing.
These are the genera knee issues that aren't going to
get better. I think the Sixers have approached that haven't
been upfront about it, but they're kind of aware of

(03:50):
the situation away that the public is not, which is
sort of this issue there. So I think it is
notable that he did like reference that specifically that this
wasn't that they're just holding out as a healthy scratch.

Speaker 5 (04:01):
That to me is notable.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Again, it's more frustrating from the Sixers angle than that
is the case. But ultimately I think, like I don't
know a little bit much to do about nothing, but
I'm glad.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
That to an extent, the NBA is getting involved here.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
So I saw somebody on my timeline I think it was, Yeah,
I know, it was John Kincave from The Fanatic and
his take was this morning and let me pull it
up real quick because I don't follow him, but it
did see it pop up, and I thought it was
interesting because I think there is something to be said
on this thought.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
And it was basically his take, why can't I find it?
I'm sorry about that. Essentially, his take was that it
was the finact that put it out all right, Here
we go. Your thoughts on this.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
The seventy six ers plan was not to have Joelingbiid
sit out the first four games of the year because
of some grand plan to have him play less games
so he's ready for the playoffs. He's ramping up his
enough of summer that was very busy, when again it
may be would have been better for him to have
a relaxing, quieter summer than traveling all over and doing
Olympics but it's something he wanted to do and his

(05:12):
sixers couldn't stop him. But this is not some grand
plan to take him off of games in October so
he'll be better in April, so he'll be better in May.
This is not that. What do you say to that?
Because I do believe that this is a combination of
what he said about the Olympics, no doubt about that.
But if this isn't about April and May, what are

(05:33):
we doing?

Speaker 4 (05:34):
Yeah, I think there's some truth to what he's saying there,
But I mean, I don't think the plan was for
him to not be ready for the first four games
this season. I do think the plan is to limit
his games to manage him. I don't think like that
was the ultimate when you had, you know, the big
meeting of the brains to figure out what's the best
route to keeping Joel beeat healthy. I don't think they
went let's make him, let's scratch him for opening night

(05:56):
in the next three games, and then go from there.
I think like Rude will see the effects of that
throughout the season. I mean maybe, but I think, really.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Well, let me let me let me stop you there,
because what if he misses you and I talked about
yesterday and we were like Thanksgiving could be the date
that he comes back, right, and that's a long ways away.
So if that's the case, the further we get out,
isn't that more truthful in your mind?

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Sure? Yeah, I mean, and that could be could be
the case.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
It's these are answers that we should have, Like this
is stuff that should not We're not like digging into figures.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
I need your crystal ball, Shamana, reach your crystal ball.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
But I mean, like this falls back on Like I
guess my biggest gripe with things is all this like
horrible pr look and everything that's surrounding it, the fine
all these things.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
It's all so avoidable if there's just.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Some more truth being told or people being upfront with
the sixers directly addressing things had on. We haven't heard
from Joelle and Beieter Darryl Mory in weeks, probably over
a month at this point since training camp officially started,
which like that to me is an issue. And by
the way, you can call them prescot whenever you choose to, Like,
if there's something going on here, Darryl, you can step
down and practice, step out of the office.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
And take a couple of questions.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
If you feel like that is allowed, Joel Embiid, you're
at the facility. So like, I think like we're being
forced to read through the lines and figure out things.
I think the Olympics is a little bit of an
unfair gripe that people are holding here. We've done the
dance where Joel Embiid does nothing all summer, and that
hasn't done anything either. I personally think the best way
to keep him in shape is to continue playing basketball,

(07:28):
which was the case this summer, and very high level
basketball at that by the way. Plus, I think it
was beneficial for him to learn to like share the
floor with other stars where you gotta be a little
less ball dominant. I think there were pros to him
playing in the Olympics. It's what went down in the
several weeks after the fact that is where the questions
are concerns in there.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
So I don't know. We can point blame in a
lot of directions here, you are.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Right, you are right. We can point blame in many
different directions.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
And if Jowell Embiid, it's new media, right, Like he's
got a Twitter account, he's got Instagram, you know, he's
every player, and his team has a podcast, so you
can hop on and get his word out anytime he
wants you. Oh, by the way, Daryl Moury, it would
be great to hear from the grand.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Wizard of all of this right here, the man in charge,
and of course that is Daryl Moury. So we'll see
what happens as far as that is concerned. But moving on, man,
it's never boring with the seventy six ers, is it.
It really isn't.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Let's talk about what we have coming up here tonight.
We got a lot of games to get into. I
think eleven games any association the return of Toby quickly though.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
On last night's games though, sham Benard.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
The King of the Court, no surprise, joker, he went
absolutely off again. The list of the King of Courts,
King of the Courts on DraftKings sportsbook.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Is just hysterical. It's all the big names. Let me
pull it up for you because and.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
They extended the promo by the way Friday. Now, yeah, you.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Know, I texted my people at DK and I said,
tell you what, you guys did a really nice job here.
He got a lot more eyeballs on the start of
the NBA season than than normally and and you know, look,
I think there are people that are really dominant when
it comes to or just not dominant, but uh NBA
dominant as far as wagering versus other leagues.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
And then there are people that bet on everything.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
I think you are getting from that pot, the people
that bet on everything to get them or the people
that are less inclined to bet on everything that don't
touch the NBA to get involved with this.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Sorry that I couldn't spit that out there.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
King of the Court, though, last night Joker goes for
sixty three points, rebounds and assists.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Just to let you know, Paulo Boncaro.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
The night before, it's seventy two is the leader in
the clubhouse, absolutely insane.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Three rebounds and it sins fifty point performance will do
that for you.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Anyways, Joker last night, so we'll start there, a big
win over Brooklyn. Brooklyn gets to cover though five and
a half, five point.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Nine overtime game.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
There your thoughts on that one, Shanvanard, Yeah, I thought,
especially down the stretch there, like Jokic had seventeen points
late pretty fairly late in that fourth quarter and then
really took over down the stretch and in overtime as well,
that he just made a clear effort to use his physicality.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Back guys down the nets had no answer for that.
We know he's one of the best post scorers and
one of the dying breed of remaining post scorers in
the NBA. So Djokich doing his thing I saw. Have
some concerns. Jamal Murray's been very up and down still,
and there were the highs and lows of him last
night in a couple of different situations there. So I
still have my eyes on that from a season long
standpoint and how that impacts the Nuggets because he still

(10:37):
doesn't look like the best version of himself just yet.
But he's showed a couple flashes last night. So you
shouldn't be bragging about an overtime victory over the Brooklyn
Nets if you're at the Denver Nuggets, but ultimately got
the job done last night.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Road win is a road win and also a really
good game from Russ.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Russ twenty minutes played, twenty two points, scored, perfect from
the stripe ten to ten, five to twelve, not so
many boards, fastists, a couple steals. Nice game, by Russell Westbrook.
You can get that from him look out. Obviously, that's
easy to say.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
There, all right.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
The other game that I want to shine a light on,
of course is Dallas Minnesota. Nice call by you on
that one. Dallas ends up winning. They were five point dogs.
Of course the night before they played and won that game,
so short, short night there to get into Minnesota. They
were five point dogs and they went outright one fourteen.

Speaker 5 (11:30):
Yeah. Body's flying all over the place in this game.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Daniel Gafford getting hurt, Luka Doncic getting banged up, Anthony
Edwards tweaking things a little bit. So with a physical game,
you felt a little bit of the playoff atmosphere. Probably
one of the more intense games that I've seen so
far this season, which was cool to check in on.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
Lucas terrific man.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
He really is just one of the best processors of
the game that we've seen, guaranteeing that he's getting the
best look from the offense. That late three that kind
of daggered where he's talking trash after so cold blooded man,
he really is.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
I thought ant got a little bit out.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Of control down the stretch there that I thought he
tried to do a little too much end up hurting
the team. He had a couple of costly turnovers late,
so little growing pains there from obviously one of the
up and coming stars in the league. Well, Luka Dancic
is that dude. They gave him a chance to close
things out and he took it. So shout out for
Mavericks forgetting the job done there.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, and it was my pick for King of the
Court and he had a great first quarter I tweeted
it out and then all downhill from there.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
But definitely get props to Dallas.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Dallas, no surprise, right, they were a finals team last year.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
They looked good.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
So yeah, they had Clay Clay's hitting some big shots.
I really like that addition. We'll see what happens.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
As far as Iri was very good last night, as
Al Kyrie was fantastic.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Man.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
It's it's a pleasure to watch him play basketball. It
is it has been from day one, really is watching
him last night, I couldn't agree with you more nice
work on that one.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Finally from last night, Shaan Bannard in.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Big picture question, does the NBA have a prop last night?
Classic example the Golden State Warriors twenty one of forty
six from Downtown New Orleans eight to twenty one. Final
score one twenty four to one oh six Golden State one.
Now that's not the end all be all. Of course,
there were turnovers that we're gonna play dumb possession and

(13:11):
so on and so forth. But man twenty one of
forty six versus eight of twenty one from downtown, I'm
ninety nine percent of the time gonna tell you the
team that attempted forty six three pointers are gonna win
that game. You know, handover fest here. So where are
we at right now? I do see some people in
the national media asking the question that the league cannot

(13:32):
sustain this. There needs to be some changes. It can't
be this way moving forward. It's not a good watch.
I don't know the numbers will tell you different. Right
people are still tuned in. But from the standpoint of
winning basketball, you know, taking your team up to another level.
We talked about the Pelicans and everything that they had.
The addition is nice draft picks zion another season, and

(13:56):
then they go into Golden State and lose to a
Steph Curry list team because they can't hit three pointers
like that.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Your thoughts on that.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Yeah, So a couple points here for starters.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
This has been one of my takes coming into the
season is I think there's gonna be a lot of
three point records broken this year.

Speaker 5 (14:10):
And to give a.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Little context on things, the Celtics broke the record last
year for most three point attempts per game with forty two.
So far the season, Boston themselves is averaging fifty point
three three point attempts per game, and there are six
teams in the NBA attempting more than what was the
previous most per game, which was set last year at
forty two, So six teams currently breaking that to start

(14:32):
that season, that being the Boston Celtics, the Chicago Bulls,
the Golden State Warriors, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Charlotte
the Charlotte Hornets and the Orlando Magic. There So not
even exactly like the candidates you would expect.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Now.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
For the last night's game specifically, I don't think it
was the story of that game. I thought that was
more about the way Golden State defended. I was really
impressed guy like Lindy Waters who was swarming all over
the place, Gary Payton making his impact foul.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
They were trapping all over the floor, and I think.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
This is especially concerning for New Orleans when you factor
in a guy like Brandon Ingram, who this is one
of the like the overarching concerns in his game is
there has been some decrease in his three point volume,
shot three of six last night, and look way more
active and attempting to get perimeter shots up. So if
he's a guy who's seeming like he's inching toward a
solution and it's still being a problem for the team,
that is an issue there. It's not my favorite style

(15:18):
of basketball to watch. I hate how much like a
three point contest things are becoming. But it is simple math.
I the three is more than two, and when you
dive into the odds here, the simple way I always
try and break it down is if you're a good
three point shooter and you're making forty percent of your threes,
if you're attempting ten of those, that comes out to
twelve points for every ten possessions there. That means you
got to score a sixty percent rate from inside the

(15:39):
arc to match that. So you just have less margin
for error if you are scoring from inside the paint
at kind of a similar volume, there. It's a tough spot.
I don't think it's going anywhere. I think it's only
going to lean further in that direction. It'sn't think it's
great for the sport of basketball, but it is the
route to winning, all right.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah, I'm with you there. You know I got to
keep firing. I didn't know about the busts of Celtics
of that number. We talked about them after opening night,
but man, that's that's eye opening.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Only a few games into the season, but you could
see that this.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Is definitely dedicated it in a way that teams need
to go about it from here on out.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
Speaking of the Boston Celtics quickly on this. Did you
see what Joe Mizula said the play?

Speaker 5 (16:17):
Yeah, he's a quote so I didn't see.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
I didn't see the power play. What was the power play?

Speaker 4 (16:22):
I think he was asked by like a role suggestion,
and he said for foul trouble, allowing teams to play
five on four for a couple possessions or things like that,
so start to create like a power play. He is
a quote machine, Joe Masla, He's a special kind of crazy.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
I mean it mostly as a compliment, but the dude
is a psychopath.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Oh it's great, fantastic stuff.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Yeah, he said, you know, look, you got others look,
and I'm old. I'm definitely you know, no one's going
to agree with me on this one.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
I hate fighting. I hate it. I don't think hockey
needs to have it.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
Last night, Beef.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
And I are doing a hitter for Beef up front,
and like, out of the corner of my on the TV,
I just see these two dudes beating the hell out
of each other with the gaps and the rangers, and
I'm just like, it's the start of the game, Sean,
like literally three minutes in, and it was all due
to some triple A fight that they had in minor
leagues that are hirshing it. It's like really, like really

(17:16):
and Missoula's point was like, man, that's like on a
hard con ice surface and he got these guys just
duking out in the NBA. They can't even leave the
bench without being suspended for a week. So yeah, a
little interesting there though, But.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Moving on, Let's get to the game. Sean Banar a
full slate of games.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Let's start with the seventy six ers and your thoughts
and what we're gonna see tonight six or four point
favorites two nineteen. They shouldn't have trouble, shouldn't have trouble with.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
The Detroit Pistons.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
But this is the Philadelphia seven six Ers or twenty
twenty four to twenty five.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
Your thoughts, Yeah, I don't think the Sixers are gonna
have much much trouble taking care of business tonight. I
do think that Pacers win was big for them on Sunday,
that they needed to get one in the win column there,
and just the way that they played with tires Maxie
looking as good as he did part clearly in that
second half. It'scoring thirty seven of his forty five in
the second half in overtime there. I think that carries
into today and he looks like the best player on

(18:07):
the floor pretty comfortably. They're four point favorites in the game,
A little bit steep for me just from the standpoint
of I could see this one going down from the wire,
but I still think you should have no problem laying
that and then they do cover the four and I'm
looking right at Tyrese Maxi for how the job gets
done from my point perspective, So his numbers sitting at
twenty nine and a half. I think he clears thirty again,
and I also will float out there. Tobias is sitting

(18:28):
at fourteen and a half. So you want to have
a little hate parlay or something and take the under there.
I don't think that's a bad idea.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
All right.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
It is Maxie's show, and we know that he's going
to step up here. He has to be. He'll be
called upon. It is funny to look at that, Tobias Harris.
Of course, Andre Drummond, what is your thoughts as far
as his as far as he's concerned, is there somewhere
that we can target rebounds? Are are they priced? You
know right where they need to be? Your thoughts on that?

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Yeah, it's a high number, and rightfully so you can
get the over a thirteen and a half at plus
one oh five. This is gonna be a tougher matchup
from him because Detroit does have some big bodies. He
really hasn't been tested with that so far. He's been
the best rebounder on the floor every single game so far.
And you know, I don't think that trend's gonna change much.
He's a monster on the glass. He's been very good
that Pacers game in particular, he really impressed me. He

(19:18):
shifted out on the perimeter a couple of times, had
two huge deals late in that game that I didn't
really think he had in his bag there. So shout
out to Andre for showing up. I do like the
over thirteen and a half number. It's a lot, but
he's leading the entire NBA in total rebounds right now.
He's the self proclaimed best rebounder of all time. He's
going to get every single defensive rebound that is there,
which is kind of a comforting feeling for the Sixers

(19:40):
to have that.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
So shout out to Drummond.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Very hungry, and you know, a Pistons team that needs
to find a win, a desperate Pistons team owned four
on the season, coming in once again.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Sixers and Pistons tonight and.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
The semi six or four point favorites on a DraftKings
sports book.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Sixers are winning tonight, Shaan Binar.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
I do think six of their winning. I think they
got pushed it to and two. Detroit still looking for
their first win. They're still figuring things out. And as
much as I, like Kate, didn't think this team should
be better, than like they seem to be heading down
the pathway again this year. I haven't seen much signs
of life just yet, so I'm holding off on it.
In Detroit belief early on.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
All right over to the rest of the card here
on DraftKings Sportsbook. Last night we had a Western Conference Final,
you know, rematch from last year, and basically it was
the same thing.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
It was Dallas on the road in Minnesota. Well, here
we are with the ECF this evening. Boston on the
road in Indiana last night was five and a half.
Right here, six and a half? Will we have the
same result? In your mind?

Speaker 4 (20:41):
I'm riding with Boston all the way on this one.
That they've just looked too good for me to go
any other direction, and that six and a half feels
too low to me. For the start of things for
the Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton has really struggled to start off
this season. His worst game obviously came in that matchup
with the Knicks, where he was held scoreless zero points,
five assists, one rebound, one steal, shot, oh for eight

(21:01):
from the field for seven from three. If he's not
his all star dominant itself, the Pacers are just not
gonna be that good of a basketball team. And yes
there's other players that can step up. There is talent
on that roster, but nothing that compares to the Celtics team.
I think you can make a strong case. I think
at least the top two in Jalen Brown and Jason
Tatum are the top two players on the floor. I
think you'd extend the case a little beyond that for

(21:23):
the Drew Hollidays, and you know, for the level that
they're playing right now. So I'm riding with the Celtics
all the way. They look incredibly dominant and I don't
see that changing anytime soon.

Speaker 5 (21:31):
So sign me up for the minus six and a half.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
All right, next game up on the DraftKings card. Let's
keep it moving here, Lakers and Calves. Bronnie, this is
supposedly going to be the game that he plays going
back to Cleveland, and then he's gonna go to G League. Now,
I don't know when the G League starts off the
top of your head. Never asked a question you don't
know the answer to, But do you know when that starts?

Speaker 5 (21:53):
I don't, off the top of my head.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
I know they're doing tryouts and stuff right now, so
I guess in the next couple weeks is when things
will fully speed up.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
I can find that should we take Brownie's stats, should
we fire on Brownie tonight?

Speaker 5 (22:07):
Not something I'm gonna be recommending.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
They do have a nice I did check out that
they have a void if he does not clock him inte.
I see the buzz that he's seems like he's gonna
play tonight, so we'll see if that happens there.

Speaker 5 (22:18):
But I'm not promoting any Brownie James props. I'll say that, And.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
There's nothing undraftings at this point in time either for
that conversation. But what is intriguing, though, is the Cleveland
Cavaliers are a big time, hefty favorite here, five point
favorites at home two twenty five and a half as
are total Calves.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
I believe are still undefeated, doing really well. I'm a
big Calves supporter, I have been.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
In previous seasons, so it's good to see that them
getting off to a good start here. Not so much
from a sixer perspective, just as a gambler, but five point.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Favorites against the Lakers.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
Your thoughts, Yeah, I'm riding with JJ and the Lakers
I like the plus one sixty on the money line.
The Calves have looked unbelievable to start this year, and
I do think they're gonna be a good basketball team.
It's not like I don't believe in them, but I've
been really impressed with how this Lakers team has been playing.
I also love the way that it really like ate
it JJ and the one loss that they have picked
up and watching him deal with that at the press conference,

(23:10):
I'm buying that they bounce back from that find a
way to get a win. I think that, like there
are still some limitations with this Cavs team when you
talk about the pairings of Evan Mobley Jared Allen and
kind of the limitations that come with having two big
men in today's NBA.

Speaker 5 (23:23):
I think J. J.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
Reddick finds a way to expose that that he draws
up some plays and cooks things up, and Lebron James
and Anthony Davis continue to look like both top ten
NBA players. So sign me up for the Lakers on
plus one sixty on the money line.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Hornets six and a half home favorites here against the
Raptors two twenty five. Kind of putting a finger on
the Hornets. You know, look, we know that they're not
going to be consistent. It's to Charlotte Hornants. But when
they do play well, they should cover this number and
they should smash the Raptors.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
Raptors are in a bad spot. Your thoughts in this.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
One though, show Yeah, I'm not gonna make a play
until I find out about the status of Scottie Barnes.
I know he took a knock to the face last night,
so I'm not sure if he's gonna be suiting up
or not for this game. If he is in, I
would lean towards the Raptors to cover that plus five
or plus six and a half. If he's not, I
don't have a ton of belief in this Toronto team
and a matchup of two bad teams, two young teams
that are still figuring things out here.

Speaker 5 (24:15):
Not anything that super jumps out to me, but I
would say just.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
Lock in and check on that Scottie Barnes injury report
for making any sort of decision here.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
Very smart stuff there from Sean Bernard.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Hawks and Wizards Hawks five point road favorites two thirty
two and a half.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
Trey young Man looking good so far this season.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
Your thoughts, Yeah, I lean towards Atlanta here.

Speaker 4 (24:36):
Washington's still figuring things out, and I gotta say the
Kyle Kosman experience seems to be even worse this year
than was the case in past seasons, for the way
the sporadic play that he has down there in Washington.
I have been impressed with what I'm seeing from Trey Young,
and I will say Reese to Schet for how much
he's been made fun of from the Hawks standpoint, doesn't
look bad so far. That the dude hustles he competes
out there, got some real deal size and this is

(24:57):
the matchup between the one and two picks, and this
year so doesn't quite come with the same spotlight that
it typically does in most years, but still will be
cool to see them face off. I think I like
Atlanta go in there and take care of business. Trey
Young is gonna be I mean, LaMelo ball has been
playing great as well, and I think that there are
some similarities there, but I think Tray's just a little
more polished and to me looks a lot more locked
in than he has been in a couple of seasons.

(25:18):
So we'll see how it shakes out. But I'll ride
with Atlanta tonight.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Game that I'm looking forward to this evening is the
Knicks and the Miami Heat. Knicks A point and a
half favorite two fifteen and a half. Stop talking about
the statue talking about teams on the floor here, although
the statue was pretty funny. Knicks though, favorite on the road,
right team favorite here in your mind?

Speaker 5 (25:36):
Shown, Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
I haven't been impressed with either of these teams to
start this year, to be perfectly honest, New York one
and two, Uh, the biggest thing that jumped out to
me from them is they're not doing enough to get
Karl Anthony Towns premier shots up. He's had only two
three point attempts in every game so far. This is
a dude that's averaged as many as seven point nine
per game in this season for his career, So you
gotta get him launching. That is the entire reason that

(25:58):
you brought him to New York is to space the
floor and have this perimeter threat from the big man
spot there. You got to lean into that now that
you did make that deal. So New York's still work
in progress as far as how they're playing. But Miami
seems pretty jeckleing hide for when they're there and when
they're not. Jimmy Butler was brutal on Opening night, did
bounce back and I had a nice game against Toronto
and seems to have found himself a little bit. But

(26:19):
I just think that there's a lot of flaws with
this Miami team and it wouldn't shock me if they're
looking down the barrel of potential Jimmy Butler trade this
season if things continue heading in that direction.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
New York at least we know who they.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
Are and what they're building towards, So sign me after
them to take care business.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
All right?

Speaker 2 (26:33):
Next one up here on the DraftKings car let's talk
about the Brooklyn Nets and the Memphis Grizzlies. Brooklyn back
to back games on the road and Memphis taking on
Zach Edie that dominant offensive game that he has Grizzlies
twelve point favorites, two twenty six star total.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
Yeah, Grizzlies haven't been as impressive as I expected so far,
but this is the type of game that they should
be looking to late on second half of a back
to back on already pretty bad team with the Brooklyn Nets.
I'm gonna lean towards this being the game that they
do breakout and they do cover the minus twelve here.
I think Brooklyn's a little bit more respectable than their
given credit. Cam Thomas is a guy that can get
as hot as anyone in the league. But I think

(27:11):
there's too much talent in Memphis and they're gonna figure
it out soon.

Speaker 5 (27:14):
So sign me up for the minus twelve. Hopefully it
happens tonight.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Spurs and Thunder, this is gonna be a great game,
but a bit spread. What am I missing here? Twelve
and a half to twenty one? Okaysee favored?

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (27:24):
I mean the Thunder are just very good, is I
guess the biggest thing here. I will ride with the
plus twelve and a half. With a little bit of
respect to wemen Yama. I do think that he shows
up for these games. There were the little fireworks between
him and Chet last year when they matched up, which
was really fun to watch there. I do think Wemby's
gonna make his legitimate All Star case this year and
be in the mix for some end of season awards.
That's how good that he's gonna elevate to be in

(27:46):
year two. I think that carries with elevating his team
to being competitive. We haven't really seen the Spurs team
click yet. I thought Chris Paul was gonna make more
of an immediate impact than has proved to be the
case so far. But I'm not giving up on that
becoming the case. So maybe it happens tonight. The thunder
gonna throw everything they have at them and just so deep. Like,
I continue to be impressed by how good every name
on that bench is, but I'll ride with Wenbinyama out

(28:08):
of respect and take them to cover the plus twelve
and a half here.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Excellent stuff. Pelicans and Warriors. Let's talk about this game here,
Warriors again.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
You know last night two and a half point favorites
running it back two nineteen and a half.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
What was the number last night? Let me look that up.

Speaker 5 (28:24):
One and a half last night in favor of the Pelicans.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Yeah, so now we flip it once again, one twenty
four to one oh six. Anything different for you in
tonight's game.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:35):
I was pretty high on the Pelicans entering last night.
Laid the number with them and should not have done that, obviously.
I was pretty impressed with the way the Warriors defended.
Was my number one takeaway that they were just swarming.
Buddy Heil was excellent as usual, the way that he
battled through it to give like the full turnover numbers
here again it was then blitzing and doubling all over
the floor. But from the team overall, they were talking

(28:57):
about well, twenty fouls, the turnovers. Twenty four turnovers for
the Pelicans compared to eight for the Warriors last night.
So that's gonna lose you games right there. I thought
the way Lindy Waters particularly swarmed and made things happen,
shot the ball really well.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
He impressed me.

Speaker 4 (29:11):
Kerr continues to roll with the deep bench, which I
think is kind of hurting this Warriors team to an
extent right now, but obviously didn't matter last night that
they were just rotating quick and all that thing. So
I think I like the Warriors to take their business again.
There's good energy and a youthful energy around that team
right now, which kind of surprised me. So sign me
up for a back to back taking care business all right, and.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Final game on the NBA card a ten to forty
late one here Clippers and Trailblazers and that brand new
arena that seems to be getting a ton of love
and rightfully so we need to get a picks and
roll trip out there, Curtsey of our friends at DraftKings,
and so we could take in that new stadium. Eight
and a half two seventeen is your total And this one.
Haven't paid too much attention to the Portland trail Blazers.

(29:55):
Something surprised. Something tells me I shouldn't be surprised at
what we've seen so far. But with this one here
once again Clippers three and oats this season Portland two
and one ats though eight and a half point spread
to seventeen.

Speaker 4 (30:09):
Yeah, I don't love the Clippers like ability to put
away teams right now. That's kind of my biggest concern
with them is I think they can scrap. I think
they can win some tough, hard nose game, but I
do question like who can take the ceiling off and
produces that sort of blowout. I do lean towards covering
the plus eight and a half from Portland's end just
because of that, but there's not a ton of reason
for optimism with that team. Haven't seen Scoot Henderson taking

(30:30):
those next steps just yet, which is really what I'm
watching out for and hoping there's other talented guys on
that roster, Jeremy Grant and a number of other names
that will be relevant or competent basketball players. So I'll
go with the plus eight and a half because I
expect this to ultimately be a game. But I do
think the Clippers find a way to win this one.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
All right, Sean, we were we woke up this morning,
text message was firing and there were plenty people, plenty
of people talking about.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
The award for Rookie of the Year. So I want
to hit two awards with you before we get out
of here, MVP and Rookie of the Year. Let's start
with Rookie of the Year, Zach Edy five to one.
Your thoughts on Edie being the Rookie of the Year
after it's all said and done.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
Yeah, I think Mark's taking the victory lap a little
bit early here, but he's He's right that he's looked
bad like there's no denying that. From Edie's standpoint. What
he has in his favor from like the resume or
at the campaign standpoint is he's got guaranteed minutes and
guaranteed opportunity that a lot of these other rookies do not.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
I do you think it's been mispriced that Eddie should
not have been the significant favorite the way that he
is and still currently is. I don't think he ultimately
ends up winning Rookie of the Year, But when kind
of looking down this list, he does have probably the
clearest out of any of these guys, just the pathway
to opportunity, which is the biggest deal there. So I
understand the appeal, but can't overlook the fact that he
has been pretty poor so far. So I think there's

(31:49):
better days ahead for Edie, but I don't think it'll
be Rookie the Year.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
All right?

Speaker 2 (31:52):
Is there anyone that you think we can make money
on at this point in time? I'm seeing Reed Shepherd
buried on the depth chart at Houston. A lot of
good players there don't connect. Is he getting enough minutes
with the Lakers? You got Ryan Dunn doing things that
we're getting attention on the timeline. I just feel like
it's not going to be eaty, so therefore there's money
to be made in this market.

Speaker 5 (32:13):
Yeah, I agree with that. It's gonna be a weird race.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
It probably reminds me of the closest of like the
Malcolm Brogden and Dario Sarage Rookie of the Year race
that were kind of strange one Joel Embiid by the
way split votes and I think tied for second in
that one while playing just thirty one games his rookie year.
But for this season in particular, like each of these guys,
I do I think Stefan Castle at plus six fifty
where I end up putting my flag down there. I've

(32:36):
been very high on minus Buzzellis and still love him
as a talent, but he's long just twenty four total
minutes so far, so you can't win rookie year when
you're getting that level of opportunity.

Speaker 5 (32:44):
Feel the same way about a lot of these guys.

Speaker 4 (32:46):
Cannet's been great, but I do think he's not gonna
get enough minutes to ultimately win the award. Reed Shepherd
definitely buried there, and there's just a lot of bodies
down in Houston, Carlton or Bob Carlton, Bob Carrington. I
do think actually in Why Washington has plenty of opportunity
there and this guy that I like quite a bit,
that's not an awful shout at plus eighteen hundred there,

(33:06):
but I think Stefan Castle at plus six fifties where
I'm gonna be joining that team. As far as campaigning,
he I loved him at Yukon. Well, I was a
little skeptical from like the positional fit because he was
very clear about wanting to be a point guard when
he didn't play that like at all at Yukon. It's translating,
all right. I think the dude's winner. I think he's
gonna be just fine. So maybe that at plus six
fifty is probably where my head's at right now.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
Right excellent stuff. And then over to the MVP.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Way too early, only one week into the season, but
right now SGA plus three twenty Luca.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
See, we talk about these markets too. It's fun to
update them.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
So this way you get those numbers in your head
as we go week by week to see where these
things move a lot like the Heisman Trophy number. But
SGA plus three, twenty Luca plus three, twenty Tatum five
to one, Joker seven to one, Anthony Everards eight to one,
Janni's fourteen to one, Anthony Davis fifteen to one, Brunton
twenty five to one, Pallo Bancaro thirty to one, Victor

(33:57):
winb beyond a thirty to one, I'll stop there. Thoughts
on the MVP at this point time.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
Yeah, Anthony Davis at plus fifteen hundred, it's a little
intriguing to me. Leading the league in scoring currently a
guy that looks a little bit higher on I guess
how the offense is built around him this year with
JJ Reddickton has been the case for most of Lebron era.
He's been awesome. He was really healthy last year, played
seventy five plus games. If that continues for this season
and he keeps up this level of production, I do
see the pathway to him winning the award there, So

(34:24):
that might be worth the swing at plus fifteen hundred
to me, But I do think it is between Shay
and Luca is probably the most likely outcome.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
Look where your mind's at.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
No longer known as street closed Davis after last season. Yes,
hopefully he can remain healthy and the Lakers got a
little bit of buzz, a little bit of pop.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
I mean, it's the Lakers at the end of the day,
but they are playing well. We'll give him credit when
credit is due.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Sea Minard, I'll give you credit all the time, once again,
a fantastic episode of picks and Roll, getting you caught
up in all things NBA king to court tonight.

Speaker 4 (34:53):
Uh hmmm, I'll roll. I'll take a nice tyrese Maxi
flyer right here. I do think he builds off the
forty five points. He's gonna get plenty of attempts. So
a bit of a far far shout here that I
could see one of the more usual suspects taking care
of business.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
But I think Maxi has a big day tonight.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
Lebron going home. M it's a road game. Who knows
what happens there? Give me somebody at home here, Harden.

Speaker 5 (35:25):
At home, don't hate it.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Yeah, they could blow him out though that's the only
issue there.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
You went with Maxie, I'll go Lebron, I'll go Lebron.
Why not, he's going back home to Cleveland. You know
that this could very well be one of the last stops.
I don't know if they play again. I think they
might play again at there.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
I think yeah, And the fact that Lebron isn't hanging
it up without getting that Swan song, you know, the
the circuit at the end, you know, going around from
place to place.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Yeah, farewell, throw there you go, so we'll see, but
we'll see.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
