If you can wager on it, We're talking about it.

the hardwood with Sixers insider Sean Bernard and Sean Brace
Live picks.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
And Roll coming your way, and another edition on all
things NBA and a little focus on the seventy six
Ers with Sean Bernard who does a great job covering
the Sixers for us here on The Gambler and the NBA.
Of course, represent a squad over at DraftKings Sports Book
as well.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
I am Sean Brace a.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Lot to get to. As I said, Sean Man, we
got two, not one, but two seventy six Ers wins
to discuss. I am just absolutely floored. The Sixers are.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Back, Shann Bernard absolutely tied for the best record in
the NBA across the past two games. So you know,
let's keep them coming here, climbing up the standings. In
all serious stuff, you got to take the wins where
you can get them. Getting two back to back is
a big deal. This is a stretch where they have
a chance to pile up some victories and start to
turn this season around a little bit.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
There are some tangible signs of growth.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
With this team, Paul George looking like Paul George, Nick Narris,
leaning on some of the young guys a little bit more. Still,
we'll see if Joelle Embiid can come back and complete
this puzzle. But more encouraged than I have been at
any other point so far this year.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yeah, and that's the reality.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
That's absolutely factual, and we should be because it is
a long season. But we're nineteen games into the season
right here, they play eighty two. Everybody knows that I
did an interview yesterday where they were.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Asking me what's the out look for this team?
Speaker 2 (01:48):
You know, I'm still pessimistic beyond belief, but you know,
they were trying to make the case that the East
is bad, and from the standpoint of where.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
They're at, that's fine, that's all well and good.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
I just don't have any confidence in the big man
remaining healthy. And we'll see what Paul George can do. But,
like like you said, the focus right now, you know,
it's it could be really easy to continue to bury
this squad bury this franchise. But last night nice win
on the road in Charlotte against the bad Charlotte Hornets
team that was down a few players. They were favored
(02:25):
in that game, So we want to tip the cap
cover and number as well. Good teams win, great teams cover.
But back to tonight, they're they're taking on their Land
of Magic where the seventy six ers are actually four
and a half point dogs. So that's intriguing stuff there.
But again, I think what you said really hit the
nail on the head from Paul George's perspective, because he
(02:46):
had a pretty good game last night.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
Yeah, he absolutely did, had twenty nine points, eight assists.
I continue to be really impressed with his ability to
drive and create for others. That wasn't something that was
really high on my kind of scating report of Paul George.
Is something that we've seen a ton from him. I
think the sixer team has been so starved for playmaking
that he's kind of standing out in that category there.
But like when comparing him and I do think the
Tobias Harris conversations get a little overplayed. But when think
(03:10):
about like that role in the offense, which Obviously, Tobias
filed last year. Paul George is failing this year. That's
just a night and day difference. So that is an
area of his game that was an unchecked box for Tobias.
So having that as an option his ability to create
for others. Get a really nice kind of pick and
roll with Yabuseli last night where he hit him on
kind of the role man a couple times there and
like he looked confident down the stretch. There is just
(03:30):
like you can't speed him up. He's playing at his pace.
He's still Paul George man. So it's been frustrating that
he's been so in and out of the lineup. We
haven't really had a chance to see him or have
him grow into a key member of this six er
team just yet. Let's not forget what a special basketball
player this guy has been throughout his entire career, and
nice to finally see that he has shown up for
this season.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Six and nine from Downtown twenty nine total on the
evening in Charlotte's also from the box score specifically, really
the minutes more than anything. What was the deal last
night with Jared McCain, who finished with seventeen. Pretty good
night twenty one minutes total play, but was not a
factor in the fourth quarter due to the coach's decision.
(04:10):
Nick Nurse, what is your read on that and is
it a mistake? I think you should probably play the
rookie of the month, one of your better players on
the team in a crunch time situation.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
What does your read on that whole deal?
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Yeah, I think this is unfortunately going to be an
ongoing debate this season with Nick Nurson how long of
a lead she has for Jared McCain. I mean, Jared
McCain is twenty years old. He still is a work
in progress, particularly on the defensive side of the ball
that I think it's fair to assess that he doesn't
make all the right rotations. He's still kind of catching
up on that side of the floor. With that all
being said, when identifying what the issues have been on
(04:45):
the six Ers team, offense is far more of an
issue than defense. So I was frustrated by the decision
by Nick Nurrison last night. Played just three minutes in
the fourth quarter, which I believe were the first three minutes,
and then did not play the rest of the stretch.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
There.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
I can't hear the size argument when a guy like
Kyle Lowry is getting minutes as well. I understand you
trust him more to do the little things, make those
right rotations defensively be locked in. But to me, I
think you got to take the good with the bad,
and when McCain was on the floor last night, looked
like the third best player on the six ers that he.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Really did provide a spark.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
I thought they were finally running some offensive sets for
him off ball as a shooter, which I was really
excited to see there.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
So I need to see more Jared McCain.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
I don't know what more he could do to prove
he's ready the outside of obviously the defensive kind of
things that I mentioned, But I think the good is
worth far more than the bad there, So I think
it was a mistake by Nick Nurse. I would have
played him far more in the fourth there, and I
think like the ultimate decision came down to he went
kJ Martin over McCain and kind of went with a
defensive minded approach. I just thought he was playing prevent
defense too early in that game, so I did think
(05:41):
it was the wrong call by the Nurse. Ultimately, they
got the win, so won't Chris find him too much
beyond that. But something to note moving forward, as I
do think this is going to be kind of a theme.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah, and you know, look, these are the growing pains
of dealing with a rookie versus the veteran players. You know,
Like I said, I just think that playing jer McCain
is more beneficial than anything.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Number one.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Number two is he is one of your better players,
and he's a scorer out there, and the kid has
earned it at this point in time. He's earned the
opportunity to continue to play extended minutes, So twenty one
minutes again.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
You know, I'd like to see that bump up.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
But really, just for me, it's the fourth quarter, Like, yeah,
I want him out there.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
I want him on the floor and.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Spreads total and all the prop that's in between.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
It's the gamble. It's going to be really cool with
the knockout round. The group stage is a little funky.
You got to get through that.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I understand the diehards out there and the old heads
are like, oh dude, what is going on? Already enough
of these games, but now it's to the knockout round.
And as you said, this is when the intensity raises up.
Big time prize at the end, and of course all
eyes are on you when you're out there in Vegas
and playing for a potential NBA Cup championship. Next game
(06:55):
up will be Tuesday, December tenth. That's when we get
the Magic and the Bucks, and we get the Oklahoma
City Thunder and the Mavericks. Again, those are home games
for the Thunder and the Bucks there following dates Tuesday Wednesday,
Tuesday Wednesday next week. And then we get the Hawks
and the Knicks next are home there and Golden Say Warriors,
any Houston Rockets. Hello, that's an intriguing matchup game in Houston?
Speaker 3 (07:19):
How about that? And then Saturday of next week that's.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
When it's the quarterfinals or the semifinals excuse me in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
And then the championship will be the following Tuesdays. So
this will be.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
All wrapped up by December to seventeenth. Again, I think
the NBA has done a good job with this. I
really do enjoy the NBA Cup. We respect the Cup.
Right here on the on the pix and Roll Daily
ticket to Gambler Seam Bynard chan Brace.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
All right, you gotta play. Let me fire up Draftings Sports.
But take a look at those futures for the NBA Cup.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Are you backing a team? Is there a team that
you have your eye on? Tell you what that Rockets
home game is really interesting?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Yeah, that is interesting. I knew we talked about the
Warriors on here. I will say I do think I
overlooked the Knicks a little bit as a team that
this could be built for that, you know, kind of
my same premise here is that they are a team
that grinds out every game, They have a little bit
more to play for.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
They kind of have that chip on their shoulder.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
I'm seeing them as the favorite, and let me know
if the odds have shifted if you're seeing something different.
But on DraftKings at plus three ten for the next
right now, that's probably a pretty the angle I would
suggest to take.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
I'm still not rolling out the Warriors.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
They've cooled off a little bit, but plus eight hundred
is not a bad price tag. There pretty clear that
there's like the gap here is that is Nicks at
plus three ten, thunderneckt Bucks, Rockets, Mavericks, and Warriors all
at plus eight hundred or below. Then the Magic at
plus twelve hundred and Hawks plus twenty two hundred Orlando
isn't worth it or isn't the worst shout in the
world there.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
I am kind of buying the way that they're playing.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
They won.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
They did lose last night, but they won six consecutive
before that, and eleven of their last twelve before last night.
So playing some really good ball in Palo probably not
back by the end of this butt of talent on
that roster, So I probably lean Nicks. I think it's
a little bit of a chalk pick, but I do
think that this team could probably use that sort of
emotional boost that comes with it.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Interesting. Yeah, well the Bucks are red hot right now.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
They've turned it around Dame and Giannis. But that game
is in Orlando and it's next week, so anything can happen.
We got a long way to go, but there's got
to be an upset in there somewhere right potentially the
Hawks over the Knicks.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Right.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Let me ask you, is there a team that's taking
us a little bit more serious than others out of
the final eight here? Yeah, that's what I think.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
If you can find the tru answer that that's your angle,
because I do think that plays a ton into this.
Milwaukee kind of got their backs put against the wall
pretty early on in this season and clearly scrapping out
of it. Giannis is playing unbelievable. I think in my
mind he's probably climbed to the MVP favorite. I know
the odds would not indicate that, but I've been just
incredibly impressed with it. The way that he's playing. I
don't see it being the Dallas Mavericks. I would probably
(09:55):
count them out for that. The thunder are interesting because
they're so young and hungry that I could see it
happening and just straight up this talented, So I wouldn't
overlook that either. The NIXT to me feel like that
team that they were gonna be kind of those hard o's,
go all out and try and find a way to
win it. So I probably leaned the Knicks for that direction.
But uh, it's it's a tough chore to get me
to root for that team.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
I'm with you there, all right. Sorry.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
I was just looking at the NBA Creator Cup that's
coming to Las Vegas, U and I would imagine that
that's going to be tied into the NBA Cup Final.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
Some of them when I was out there in Summer League.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Who I don't even know who these people are. I
know lethal Shooter, the professor. Okay, I know the professor.
I know lethal shooter because he lit his hands, he
lit the ball on fire and had a like I'll
google over him.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
All these other dudes.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Jesser, Yeah, DeAndre Harding, yp K ray, Cam Wilder, Carson Rony,
Chris London, Jube.
Speaker 5 (10:59):
Who'd you Carson Rony? I met that Jester dude.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
So I'm kind of I would say, like, you know,
loosely in the world where I understand it, but not
really so.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Shout yeah, you're in the age range too.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Like so just to give this story here, shout the
RB Philly take Who's really who hooked up us? So
when we had our press passes out there, we were
through the the NBA Creator Program, is.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
How we were kind of right.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Yeah, So we were seated in the creator section next
to a bunch of these people, none of whom, to
be perfectly honest, I could recognize, just like looking at
and saying, hey, that's somebody there. So I got seated
next to some dude who I, honestly, to this day
I couldn't tell you what his name is, was just making
normal conversation with him whatever, decent guy whatever. He gets up,
walks away, he walks out the exit, a swarm of
(11:44):
kids comes sprinting over asking for autographs, pictures, and I'm
just like, like, who was that dude? So it was
another one of the I wish I could come up
with his name on the spot, another one of the
YouTube creators. But uh, Jester was very nice talking to him.
Do remember his name? A couple of the other guys.
So same world out there.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Yeah, it's crazy world we live in, especially with the
social media digital age, and you know it's funny because
you just don't know. Like even our good friend Sheffield
Shuffler who came out on Sunday Chef's got ninety thousand
followers on Instagram, I don't know what he's got on TikTok.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Like that dude is a content creator with the hell
of a following.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
And yeah, if you put him in the right spot,
I'm sure people be coming up Philly Captain. People come
up to Philly Captain all the time and ask for pictures. Yeah,
it's crazy, it's a different day and age. Shout out
to all those guys and girls that work hard and
building their portfolios and get those followers because we do it.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
It ain't easy. It ain't easy. But maybe I need
to light stuff on fire and go shoot hoops or something.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Maybe that we need a little bit more, you know,
cinematic experiences going on around here?
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Who knows. Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
I'll stick to the sports, all right, Let's keep it
moving here, Sean, Let's talk about the Orlando Magic and
the Sixers tonight four point spread Orlando favored.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Here.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Is it telling that the Sixers are four point dogs
on their home floor, because obviously we're having fun, We're
trying to, you know, strike it up, like, oh, Sixers
are back.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
They want too straight? You know, I look at it.
Why not?
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Why Why would the Sixers be a four point dog
tonight after winning too straight? I understand the opponents there,
but you know, somewhat of a belief right now with
that team, I would imagine it's happening inside the locker
room and they're catching flour at home. I'm almost tempted
to say that the Sixers plus four is to play,
(13:39):
but I am really hesitant because they've been inconsistent. Actually,
they've been consistently bad. And now they just want two
straight years. So I want to pump the brakes just
a little bit. But Plus four talk to me about
this matchup here.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Yes, So they have a back to back.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
Both these teams, for first starters, are on the second
night of a back to back for their own games.
They also are set to play on Friday again, so
back to back game against each other. I think the
Sixers have to find a way to win one of
those two. I'm not super confident that it is tonight.
The Magic are a very talented team. They're fifteen to
eight on the season.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
They did.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
They're also coming off the loss in the hands of
the Knicks last night, a pretty disastrous loss for him
that an ended I believe like a twenty three point
loss for him, and some pretty fiery quotes from Jamal
Mosley in the post game talking about how this is
not Magic basketball and that kind of thing. That makes
me nervous that we're gonna get a pretty focused effort
right from the opening tip tonight. But I do think
like this team's playing in some really high level hoops
(14:30):
that prior to last night's loss, they had won six
straight eleven of their last twelve. There and that being
without Palo Bancaro on the floor. So Franz Wagner has
certainly taken that leap into a true All Star caliber player,
particularly in Bancaro's absence.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
They got a lot of other young talent.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Jalen Suggs has taken another leap forward this year, Anthony
Black playing really well. It's like the talent is there
for this team. They're young, they're hungry, they play hard,
but they're not unbeatable. So for the Sixers, I think
like all the questions are still remain internally. If Paul
George wants to play like he did last night, I
gave this team a pretty good chance. I think there's
more than more for Tyrese Maxi to unpack than was
(15:05):
the case last night. I do lean towards the plus four,
but I've kind of approached this as a two game series.
The Sixers need to find a way to win one
of these games. If they lose tonight, Friday kind of
becomes a must win in my eyes.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Probably smart a way to look at it.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
There Sean and two teams matched up back on the
fifteenth in November. Wagner went for thirty one magic, won
by I believe eight. I think the game was in
Orlando here once again Sixers hosting the Orlando Magic. And
as far as a player prop is concerned, tonight Wagner,
would you look back at him due to the success
(15:39):
that he had in the previous matchup, and of course
he's having a great season. You know, they changed these
things around so many times, it's so weird. Anyways, twenty
six and a half. Twenty six and a half is
his number tonight. Again, not too much size to help
out down there. You'll have Drummond, you know, I'm sure
that they're gonna find Oh, no, Drummond.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
So did I see that?
Speaker 2 (16:03):
I don't know if I saw that anyways, all right,
so even more of a reason to palm Franz Wagner
this evening.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Correct, Yeah, and I honestly would probably give the direction
of the points, rebounds and assists for him. That numbers
at thirty nine and a half. Very good rebounder, a
guy who uses his strength and size incredibly well. He
legitimately has been playing at an all star, borderline all
NBA level for the past ten to fifteen games since
Bankara has been absent there, He's gonna be a problem tonight.
I would expect Paul George is probably the guy matching
(16:29):
up with him, assuming he's able to go. There is
obviously the concern of it being a back to back,
and if the Sixers played that a little conservative, I
personally feel that that's out the window. At this point
you kind of have lost the grace period for that
being possible. But they are going to be cautious that
he is still supporting that brace. But yeah, Wagner is
where everything starts and finishes for this Magic team in
the short term. I think he has a pretty strong
(16:50):
game pretty much regardless of who's on him.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
MAXI twenty six and a half, sugs, fifteen and a half.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Not too many players listed at this point in time.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Obviously it's early, but anything there as far as Maxie
is concerned with twenty six and a half.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Who's the Sixers score that you got your eye.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
On the most?
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Is it back to back for Paul George here?
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
If Paul George is playing, I honestly probably regardless it's
MAXI for this game that I do.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait do
you wait wait wait wait?
Speaker 4 (17:17):
If Paul George plays, I I'm saying I think he
absolutely should. I do have a little fear that the
Sixers pulled the knee injury management here. I'm not saying
they should, but all I'm saying is they should.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
They better not.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Yeah, I don't. I just like the one The only
quote I saw from Paul George on this specifically last
night was that like he basically said, like, feel good.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
Right now, we'll see what the team says.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
I plan on playing if I can, and that enough,
that enough was to be like, oh gosh, like there's
a chance in my mind, So I hope it's not
the case, but I'm keeping that on the table.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
I'll say I can't. I can't with this. I can't.
I can't. Yeah I can't. Right now, I'm.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Just just did twenty minutes positive conversation, and now there's
a chance that Paul George doesn't play tonight.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
What is going on? I just I don't know. I
don't know. Like I'm not even gonna get carried away
with it. I'm not.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
I'm not going to get carried away with it until
he is. If he's ruled out, I'm gonna lose my
mind because I just I like, what are we doing?
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Here.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
If he's if he's ruled out tonight, come on, man,
this season's cooked. Like, we gotta be honest. If he
can't go back to backs And at this point, we're
twenty games into the season, Like, this isn't Opening.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Day, this isn't the first week of the year.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Here, this is twenty games into the season, and you stink, like,
what are we doing here? If he needs to sit
out enough of these that's that's the thing that's being
I told you.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
I wasn't gonna do this, and now I'm doing it. Like,
what are we doing with the whole Oh, he might
not play tonight?
Speaker 2 (18:58):
You know, if these guys can't go, why do we
not just rule him out for two weeks?
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Why do we say, you know, he's got to rehab
in rest for two weeks, we're gonna bring him back.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
I'm okay with day, like, you know, a spot miss
here and there. I'm not dumb, but come on, man,
this is absurd right now.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
Yeah, I'm certainly not arguing that he shouldn't play.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
I want Paul George to be out there tonight, but
I've just been putting it out there that I'm not
giving it a one hundred percent chance that he is
active tonight.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
I hope I'm absolutely wrong about that.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
I hope that that thought never never crosses the minds
of the six decision makers there.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
But I did see like.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
That one little quote from PG last night that maybe
be like, Okay, there's a chance that they're gonna be
pulling the same nonsense going from here for Paul, Like,
I have pretty much entirely different outlook than I feel
with Joel. The Joelle stuff is to me like going
to be here forever. This is a management situation. I
don't feel that that's the case with Paul George, that
he very clearly had legitimate injuries those bone bruises that
(19:55):
we saw on full display in the middle of the court.
He is rocking a pretty significant brace out there. It
looks to me like the ACL stabilizer brace, which I
was kind of confused and surprised to see there. He's
also got the likes leave over top, so it's tough
to get the official look, but clearly they're being very
careful with the knees, so wouldn't shock me if they
go this direction. I do hope that is not the case,
but I do think not seeing odds for Paul George
(20:16):
listed just yet is also a little bit telling there.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
I don't know. I just don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
It's just been a disaster, you know. And if he
doesn't play tonight, then like it just a home game too.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
This is a home game. People are gonna lose their minds,
but they they don't care.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
One dollar tickets ahead of tonight, come on upper decks.
So for one dollar last night? Why well on what
stub Hub game time? This was where I was looking.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
But yeah, one dollar tickets. While have we fallen? Yep,
we have fallen? Face first. This is crazy, all right, Uh,
let's keep it moving here. Next game up, they're.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Up to the cheapest is up to two dollars now,
so maybe the wind got some people out of their
seats last night.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
I wonder want the like down low. See what I'm
This is how my brain works. You know, if you
can get me in the building for two dollars, that's great,
my brain would work as far as Okay, that means
down Low has got to be cheaper as well, so you.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
Can what take a guess for what down Low?
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Give me this? Where we are we sideline or.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
We section one section one O three, row four.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
And then one of three would beware on the floor
behind the home bench.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
So and you said, what row again four?
Speaker 2 (21:46):
I mean that ticket's normally going for like three four
hundred bucks, if not more.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
N Wow.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
See that's where that's where my brain works. And that's
a damn good ticket. Yeah, you're in on the action, dude.
But if I spent ninety eight dollars to go see
the Sixers team and Paul George doesn't play, I'm gonna
lose my mind.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
Yeah, I hear you for sure on that. Hopefully that
we have good news in the near future on that.
But I'm just keeping that on the table for people
that I do think there's a chance of.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
That ninety eight bucks.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Wow, Hey, go down there and sit that close to
the sixth bench.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
You might get called upon by Nick Nurse. You never know, well,
tet of Jared McCain.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
All right, we got another five matchups to cook, to
kick around here and see if we can find some winners.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Talk to me about the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Everyone's losing her mind about Lebron James and there's the
older twelve and nine. I know that he's hitting some
numbers that he hasn't done before. I think in the
last few games he's over nineteen from Downtown. Not really
happening for the King at this point in time.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
But I'm still not going.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
To look at the Lakers as a team that can't
compete here.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Like I get it.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
You know, to me, there's not much difference of this
Lakers team versus years past. I guess where do you
stand on the outlook right now for the Lakers?
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Yeah, And I think we kind of talked about that
leading into the season that to me, like JJ Redick
was hired as a win now coach without truly win
now personnel. That I think like that is kind of
the issue with this Lakers teams. There is not enough.
They have good players, they don't have guys that are true,
like championship caliber guys. When you talk about looking down
the roster of the D'Angelo Russells, all these guys that
are good but aren't quite what this team needs.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
That's still the issue there.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
So until there is a roster move and they try
and upgrade in some sort of regard there, I think
this kind of is what it is for this Lakers team.
I don't think it's fair to Lebron James to have
to expect him to be carrying this team on an
every night basis. It is pretty shocking that he's over
nineteen from his last nineteen three point attempts.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
There.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
That has never been done before in his career, and
it does feel like he's been a bit more passive lately.
You are seeing the signs of father time a little
bit more than ever before. But he's still playing at
a very high level overall, so I'm not gonna fully
come down on him. Anthony Davis still also playing very well.
But I think the reality is that beyond those two
and beyond kind of the top end of these players,
(24:00):
even guys like Dalton connect and Austin Reeves who's been good,
are they ready to be in the same conversation of
when you look at a team like the Oklahoma City Thunder,
who have the Jalen Williamson and the chet Holmgrins and
all these other guys that can step up here, I
don't think that is the case for the Lakers. So
I don't think the Miami Heat will be a team
to overly expose that today. But I do think when
having a wider conversation, there is reason for concern that
(24:20):
this roster just straight up isn't good enough.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
Yeah, I saw people.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Yeah, it's the same old song and dance right, Like
you know, the same conversations with Darvin Ham coming up
right now with JJ.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
It's like, I don't know, Like Lebron is running the show.
Lebron's not taking a back seat. He's not going to
sit himself.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
He's not will he takes some games off. Sure I
could see that happening. Lebron's not a dummy, but he's
the one that's calling the shots, and it's him and
JJ at this point in time connected at the hip.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
I would believe.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
I haven't really watched the Lakers in great detail, but
definitely I'm unaware of what's going on.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
I just yeah, I think nothing has really convinced me
that things would be different for this team this season.
Last year they had a pretty good run. They made
the semifinals in the Western Converts. I want to say something.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
Along those lines, like they made a little bit of wrong,
but you knew what their ceiling was, and I see
it similar this year.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
Yeah, I think that's fair.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
I like I might even argue that they might not
have the same kind of I guess my real argument
is the West got.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
Better than the Lakers didn't, is really the better way
to put it.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
There.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
There's a lot of talent in that conference, and I
don't think the Lakers took any strides in that forward direction. Yes,
Talton connect is awesome, Yes he's a positive player, but
beyond that, there aren't like that many like needle moving changes.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
That they did bring in there.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
And I also say like I personally felt more impressed,
and maybe this is just my bar of expectation has changed,
but I was far more impressed watching them through the
first couple games of this season than I have been
in racing games here. Now some of that may be like, again,
the West got way better, I think, like my, the
margin for error has shrunk for what this team is
capable of. I do think that there needs to be
a shake up on the roster. Until that is the case,
(26:04):
I think the outlook is kind of grim on the season.
So it's sad to see Lebron going down at this
stage of his career with that being the reality, but
that's kind of how I feel how it is. So
we'll see if they decide to change things up or
hope for a prayer that he can kind of find
the fountain of youth for one playoff runt.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
All right, conversations coming in as we are live here
and people just texting or checking in and back to
the sixth or shirt just a second.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
About Paul George.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
And you know, I think a lot of people are
on the same kind of wavelength where it's like, prepare yourself,
right that Paul George won't play tonight, that's great whatever,
like that's kind of what.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
We've been beaten down with.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
But you are I am seeing a few people say
the season is over, team stinks, Who cares if.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
He plays again?
Speaker 2 (26:51):
I think the big thing would be we got to
separate the fandom from what actually is being a professional.
And if I'm Nick Nurse and these guys are playing,
these guys are trying to strive, like they don't look
at the season is over, man, Like it's December fourth,
it just started, and yes, everybody makes the playoffs. Everybody like,
(27:14):
if you're that bad, you're gonna make a playing game.
There's a lot to play for from the Sixers, but
there has to be some sort of sense of urgency
at this point in time.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
Although it was December fourth, so I'm talking out of
both sides of my mouth. I just like, dude, Paul
George was.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Signed to be a guy to take this team to
another level, and without Juelle Embiid, he has to be there. Yeah,
And like if he's healthy, if he's healthy enough to
go yesterday, get your ass out there today.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
I agree with all that.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
And as far as like the season long outlook for starters,
they're two and a half games out of the playing
tournament currently sixty plus left in the season.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
They are going to be just fine.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
They they're all their season long over that it this
way for the people that are the tank this season,
it's over. It's truly not an option that their draft
pick for starters is top six protected, So that means
if it falls when the first six picks, they get it.
If it doesn't, you don't, it goes to the Oklahoma
City Thunder. In order for that to be the case,
(28:16):
you have to really try to bottom out this season.
I think even if that were the mindset, here, are
you telling me that the Sixers team will be worse
than the Washington Wizards or you know, the Toronto Raptors
or the Utah Jazz this season. I just don't see
a world or the players that are on this roster
can end up with a worse record than those teams.
And the worst case scenario would be the calculation that
(28:38):
this is the direction we go, you get there, the
lottery happens, and that pick ends up as the seventh pick,
and all of a sudden, this season was for nothing.
So I think very clearly in Daryl Morey's calculations, and
I kind of agree with him here, there's a higher
likelihood of this team having a puncher's chance in the
playoffs to make a little bit of noise than there
is for settling and hoping to get that draft pick.
So the season is far from over. There's a lot
(29:00):
of balls still to be played. Teams are gonna get worse.
The Chicago Bulls are gonna lose more games than the
Sixers moving forward. When you look at the rest of
the Eastern Conference, do you think the Atlanta Hawks will
stay at five hundred for the entire season? The Pacers,
the Nets, the Nets are currently in a playing seat, like,
I don't see these things lasting the season, So just
you know, they gotta scrap out and win games. But
I don't think this is the season should be thrown
(29:21):
away the way people talk about it.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
Nah, you know, and I get it.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Our fandom is gonna kick in and we're all miserable,
and you know the outlook Like I'm not sitting here
saying I even want a playing experience.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
I really don't.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
But at the end, you know, this team who knows
what the season looks like in January, February, March right.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Like, we got a long way to go. And I
sure as hell don't want to.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Watch a team just completely lose every single night that
they take the floor. So I understand the frustration. Believe me,
I'm there with everybody on that. But come on, man,
you have to put yourself inside that building. These guys
are professionals, and you said about wasting a year like
that really hits home for me, Specifically guys like Tyree
(30:09):
Smaxi at the top of the list. Dude, he's he is, like,
he's there right now, He's on the cusp of being
a guy that's gonna be one of the top dogs
in the league, and you were just gonna waste this
year for him. Can't can't do that, can't operate like
that that's not the way that they operate. So we'll see.
All right, let's keep a moving no more sixers persison.
Do you have a play in that Miami's Lakers game.
(30:31):
Miami's fair by two points.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
I do lean towards the Lakers getting the upset the
plus one ten on the money line here. I think
they're due for some positive regression Lebron specifically in a
couple other members of that team. I still have my
doubts about this Miami team, So not a passionate play
of mine, but I do lean towards the Lakers win
in that game.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Celtics seventeen and four on the season, continuing to look
like that great team.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
What's Porzingi's been doing since he's been back.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
Look pretty solid. That he hasn't been this breakout stud,
but he's had his moments. I mean, the picking pop
threes are just absolutely dynamic. He's so big man, like
real deal, seven foot two, just shooting over guys. So
he adds another element to that team, and they've already
looked like probably the best team in basketball even without them,
so they're scary.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
Boston's the real deal. I think it's extremely likely they
repeat this year, that would be my pick currently.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
Hard to Are you hard to? Are you all right?
They're taking on the Pistons this evening.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
They matched up last time in October twenty sixth Boston
got the best of them. They won by eight points.
The game was in a Detroit Tonight Draftkicks sports book,
showing us here that the Boston Celtics are thirteen and
a half point home favorites two twenty one.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Your total Your thoughts?
Speaker 4 (31:39):
Yeah, I like Boston to cover the number at thirteen
and a half. They're that they are just unbelievable. They're
gonna launch threes. This Detroit team, they're fun, they're spunky,
they're young, and they're more solid than they have been
in past years. But I don't think it's the style
of play that is kind of has the ingredients of
an upset or putting up a challenge to a team
like Boston. That they play hard. They got their guys
that can make a splash there. But I just don't
(32:00):
think that it kind of aligns in this matchup here.
I think the perimeter attack from Boston is going to
be too much. Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown continue to
look like the two clear cup, best players on the
floor and all the depth behind him. So sign me
up for the minus thirteen and a half. I think
this probably stays a game through the first half and
then they poured on in the third quarter.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
As my prediction there all.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Right, next game up on the DraftKings card, Let's talk
about the Brooklyn Nets and the Pacers, both nine.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
And thirteen on the season.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
One team somewhat expected to be a little bit better
at where we're at currently right now in December, Pacers
two point road of favorites in Brooklyn two twenty fives
are total your thoughts.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Yeah, I would say teams coming from the opposite end
of the spectrum. As far as the Pacers underwhelming expectations
the Nets being far better than expected here, both enter
with a nine and thirteen record, directly tied for the
ninth seed in the Eastern Conference currently, I do think
Indiana has to turn things around to some extent Tyres
Halliburn has not been this all NBA All Star guard
that we kind of had him labeled at due to
(32:56):
his play over the past really two seasons since he
got to Indiana, but last year more specifically, was the
breakout I have to believe that's coming back at some point,
but I don't think it happens just yet. So I'm
kind of buying what this NETS team is selling. As
far as Cam Thomas has taken a legitimate leap forward
and his processing the game, he is still out with
a hamstring injury, but that is the guy that kind
of stirs the entire drink for this NETS team. I
(33:17):
like what they have as far as a ton of
deep talent, Cam Johnson playing very well, Nick Claxton still
doing his thing, So I think I like the Nets
to get the outright victory. I'm wrong with the underdog
Aya in here at plus one fourteen on the money line,
my man.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
All right, next one up.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Sorry, I just got to where the debt and company
is renewed at the Spear in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Gotta get there.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
My wife said, you still haven't paid off the last
two trips that you went on the Vegas.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Yeah, that's really tough. All right.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Hawks and Bucks four point spread, Bucks favorite at home
to thirty six, possibly one of the hottest teams in
the game.
Speaker 4 (33:53):
Your thoughts, Yeah, I'm ryan with the hot hand that
I do think Milwaukee and more specifically Yiannis has just
been incredible, and there's Brook Lopez seeming like he's found
a little bit of youth again. They're getting a little
bit of play from some of the complimentary pieces. They're
still dealing with the Chris Middleton injury, which is probably
be hopeful that that ceiling of that team can be reached.
But ultimately I don't think Atlanta is quite good enough
to keep them under wraps here. I do like what
(34:14):
Atlanta's building. I think reese' shay has been pretty impressive.
Is the number one overall pick and a guy that
nobody really had much buzz about Jalen Johnson very clearly
having this outbreak as an all star caliber talent. That
does change the equation for Atlanta moving forward. Before tonight, specifically,
I think Milwaukee keeps it moving. They covered the minus
four and continue kind of proving to people why they
were talked about. Is this Eastern Conference threat. We're starting
(34:36):
to finally see that happen all right.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
Final game on the DraftKings Card Clippers and the t
Wolves game being played in the Dome out there in
LA and so far Clippers have looked pretty good this season,
fourteen to nine record, inconsistent, but middle of the road
for the t Wolves ten and ten on the season.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Definitely some issues there, some.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Players call each other out all that, but we'll see
what happens this evening. Once again spread three points. Timberwolves
are favored on the road at the Clippers.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Who's missing the game?
Speaker 4 (35:11):
From LA's perspective, I don't let me double check that
right now. That's probably a pretty normal line to me though.
That wasn't something that jumped out due to injuries, but
the dive into the exact injury report for LA. We
do have Kevin Porter Junior that was ruled out of
last night's game. See if he's back. Terrence Mann sustained
a fractured middle finger, so that probably will keep him
out for tonight. No Kobe Brown and then obviously PJ.
(35:33):
Tucker and Kwi as well, so no real needle movers.
Kevin Porter Junior probably the most impactful player to keep
an eye on here, but.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
They're favored by three Interesting Why is that?
Speaker 4 (35:42):
Uh? I mean both these teams are pretty similar to me.
I think Minnesota has played below expectation and they're kind
of waiting for an increase in the output. There would
probably be my guest on it. I think Clippers are
probably on the opposite end of the spectrum. But in general,
my favorite play for this game would be the under
of two thirteen and a half. Both these teams top
eight and opponents point per game allowed. They have this
kind of defensive minded, tough approach. I think that's like
(36:05):
an ideal style of basketball just around James Harden with
with the Derek Jones juniors, the Terrence Mans, the guys
that just want to a mere coffee, want a buzz,
and compete defensively. There, they got a lot of those dudes.
So I think both these teams are gonna make an
impact with their perimeter defense. I don't think points are
gonna be easy to come by whatsoever in this game,
So I like the kushion of the two thirteen and
a half, think this one is a strong chance of
ending below triple digits for both teams.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
All right, just hit the.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Car talk excuse me extended seventy six ers conversation there.
I'm not gonna sell you a dream. I just want
to be entertained. So get out there and see what
we got this evening against your Lando Magic, and we'll
see what happens as far as who's available and fire
