City of Brotherly Love and you'll find out why.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Soon.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
We're gonna kick off the DLS Rangers Podcast. Come hang out, hey, everybody,
and welcome into the d LS Rangers Podcast. Abby Jones,
great to be with you. Jeff Wilson joining us, and
we've got Elijah the Prophet. What a day in this studio.
These might be the best numbers that we will see
from our shows. On the Dallas MAVs Show, we had
Jason Kidd, head coach of the Dallas Mavericks join, and

(01:27):
then we had three times Super Bowl champ Nate Newton
and VP of Player Personnel for the Dallas Cowboys Will
McClay joined the DLS Cowboys Show and stars are in
the Western Conference finals. So it's a good time and
a great Monday here in the studios.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Yeah, all of our potential guests are traveling today, so
like the Rangers, they traveled last night. The Friscoes and
the round Rocks are traveling. So not a good Mondays
aren't good days for Rangers guests, So I kind of
feel bad, but it's just the way you get us. Hey,

(02:02):
We're enough.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
Oh man, all right, So the Rangers end a home
stand five and two. They're above five hundred. Now the
Al West, you know, still itching their way up. We're
going to get into the weekend rivalries. As the Angel
swept the Dodgers.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
It was a big one.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
It was a big one. But you know, we're we're
heading into a very big series against the New York Yankees.
We're going to get into all of that soon. But
it's been two weeks now since the Rangers released Donnie Ecker,
hitting coach of the Rangers, and hired Brett Boone, brothers
of Aaron Boone, the manager of the Yankees. Let's talk
about what we've seen in these past two weeks.

Speaker 5 (02:42):
Well, I think you know it's starting. The grace period,
the honeymoon, if you will, is kind of ending. I
think Bruce Bochi I asked him yesterday, he said, two
or three weeks, you know, to kind of get his
feet wet. Well, we're at two weeks. Tomorrow's the two
and Well today he was hired two weeks ago. Today
he was hired on the off day in Boston. I

(03:04):
think that you are seeing effects. The numbers are slightly better,
but the confidence seems higher. Yeah, bats seem better, the
contact seems to be harder. There's still some flaws, there's
no question about it. I mean there's still you know,
Marcus Simunus continues to struggle, but you've seen Jack Peterson

(03:24):
show some signs of life and Josh Young has really
picked up the pace. So I think that that collectively
there's maybe a big cigh of relief or some pressure,
some weight taking off their shoulders. And the hitters and
now as these individual conversations take place with Brad Boone,

(03:45):
guys are getting little ideas and tweaks of their approach
what whatever, whatever it is, it's working. But you know,
that was something that jonah Heim said is sometimes you
just need your approach to change a little bit, and
it's change a fresh perspect of you know, the Rangers
are still you know, two thirds of the hitting staff
to open the season is still in place with Justin

(04:08):
Veeley and Seth Connor, and they're more analytics driven, which
is cool, I guess, but there's no clash. It's not
like Brett Boone saying, oh no, screw the analytics. You know,
they've had a good working relationship here to start so
I think that you're seeing progress. I definitely think there's

(04:28):
been progress.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Time and place for his exact words, for the analytics
side of baseball. What I like about him is, you know,
he didn't really come in guns of blazon. He said,
I just want to observe a lot. So that's what
he's been doing. Let's take a look at where the
Rangers currently rank in Major League Baseball offensively across the board.
All right, so the Rangers are fourteenth in home runs

(04:50):
compared that to who we're going to see tomorrow, the Yankees.
Aaron Judge, of course, has fifteen of those home runs.
Take a look to batting average. Rangers are ranked twenty six,
on base percentage twenty seventh, slugging twenty six, and ops
twenty six as well. So it's you know, it's not
going to be that overnight change that will want to see.

(05:11):
But these numbers for the last two weeks have been
an improvement.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Yeah, they have been there. They have And if you
want to look at the last two weeks, we don't
have a graphic, but I.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Have the numbers written down.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
You have them for you have them for may right,
I have them. I have them more specifically to break
redboon era to twenty eight average, which is you know,
not great, twenty fifth in the league, three O two,
on base twenty second, which is an improvement, slugging eighteenth,
which is just below average, and then fifth in homers

(05:46):
at nineteen. So they're doing a little more damage, I
guess with with the balls that they are hitting. Again,
you know lee leading into that the Rangers that hit
like one home run in ten games the last ten
games in the Donnie Ecker era, they had one homer.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Yeah in ten games.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
Yeah. So and again at that point, I think the
hitters were just completely flustered. Maybe maybe nothing was getting through.
They're all pressing, they all listening to their own hitting
coaches that they have hired and on the payroll. Uh
So it's just kind of I think it is starting

(06:26):
to come around. The players feel like it's starting to
come around. I think that's I think that's the biggest thing.
You know, you asked the you ask the hitters, Hey,
how's this offense doing now. Josh Young was very enthusiastic
yesterday after the game about it, and he was like,
oh man, our bat's been so good.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
Yeah, and he's been quality at bats better at bats.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Yeah, you know, you know, they're not chasing as much,
and you're seeing little things and I've mentioned this before,
like hitting the ball the other way. Hey imagine that,
you know. And and they have powered all fields, a
lot of these guys, and and they've shown it. And
and so that means Bruce Bochy said, they're not chasing
as much, so they're able to to to hit their

(07:07):
pitches or hit, you know, pitch a center in the
strike zone instead of swinging way off the plate. So
that's that's one time I think is good. Walks have
been up. You know, Marcus Simi has not been hitting.
He leads the team in walks, so it's not like
he's an automatic out if m I feel that way.
But you know, there's been some two out hits. It's

(07:27):
it's they've they've had some sustained rallies. They're hanging more
crooked numbers if you will, like that. The inning yesterday
when they scored three runs, it was the only time
they scored. So that's a problem not not continuing to
add on. But it was single single. I think there
are three singles, a sacrifice fly in there, two out hit,
so I mean, just good baseball, good offensive baseball. So

(07:51):
you know, as Wash always said, do it that the
game asked you to do? Is Bruce Boch, He says,
you still have to play the game. Those are synonymous terms,
you know, product of outs, all those things that make
offense work. The Rangers, maybe not all of them, but
the Rangers are doing them better than they were in
the first month of the season.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
And two guys specifically, let's take a look. We're calling
it just Josh and Josh Smith, Josh Young. These guys
are leading the way for the Rangers in the month
of May, producing quite a lot for these Texas Rangers.
Do you have that graphic, Elijah here it comes boom?
All right, So Josh Young actually tied third overall in

(08:32):
MLB with five home runs, Josh Smith eleven RBI Smith
and then majority of Young for the rest of the
slash line.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
And that's for May, right, yes, yeah, yeah, And you
know you'll take an eight thirty five ops. You know,
you look at these numbers, you know, the Rangers when
they at the ballpark on the big scoreboard, they put
the lineups up and the number is the ops.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
Yeah, it's not bad, it's not the patting.

Speaker 5 (08:59):
Average, and but like you know, you see like big.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Numbers a lot prettier to look at.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
Yeah, but if you know anything about baseball, like a
six sixty OPS is well below average. Yeah, you know,
a lot of these guys are still digging out of
early holes. I think I think simeon Is is still
under six hundred. You know. I think why at Langford
probably leads the team in OPS and he's doing fine.
His average is to forty six. I think it was

(09:26):
entering yesterday, So it's not like he's hitting the cover
off the ball. He's kind of been a little sluggish
since he came off the injured list, but he does
hit the home runs. He killed that ball the other night,
and he's still a threat when he's up at the plate.
So I just think that this team offensively, he's turning
the right way. Starting pitching continues to turn the right way.

(09:46):
And I don't think it's a trend. I just think
it's really really faye. The one issue now is the bullpen,
you know, and the Chris Martin thing is kind of looming.
I'm sure he's at an area hospital right now getting
an MRI. I had imagine he didn't travel, but I
don't know that for sure. Stay here, get the MRI,

(10:09):
get the results later tonight. Probably won't get released to
the public the media until tomorrow, so I would Again,
we're anticipating a an il move, yeah, and maybe a
substantial absence. I don't know. You know, he was not

(10:31):
in the clubhouse yesterday after the game, unlike the other
day when he left with the elbow injury. So that's
now maybe that's a sign. He was so mad yesterday.
I don't know if I've ever seen a guy react
like that, just cursing and screaming in his glove, and
you kind of felt for him in the moment. You know,

(10:52):
he's he's thirty eight. He turns thirty nine on June second,
sometime in June, and so you know he's talked about retirement,
or it's been talked about by the Boston media. Last year,
he said he never said he was going to retire.
He told us before the season, as long as I've
got bullets and I feel like I can still go

(11:13):
out there and do it, I'm gonna I'm gonna do it.
So this is a this is a potential setback. And
again there's so much that happens in that shoulder. There's
the you know, obliques, intercostals and subscapilaris and terrorist major,

(11:34):
terrorist minor, all these things I've learned since becoming a
Rangers B writer. There's a rotator cuff the big ones,
but it's uh, you know, there's so much that can
go wrong there. And the issue is that if it's
a terror, it's six weeks minimum, you know, so six
weeks no fro and and so then you've got to

(11:56):
build back up. And unfortunately you're a reliever and it
doesn't take as long to build back up. But I'm
suspecting that this isn't going to be good news. I
think I think his luck ran out on his elbow
the other night.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
I do agree. One thing I want to touch on
with the offense is you know, these these records with
and without Seers secrets placed on the same day il
May eleventh, when Segars and the Rangers are fifteen. This
was a few days ago, so I need to update
the stats, but still worth talking about. Rangers are when
seegers in fifteen and eleven, seegers out four and ten.

(12:29):
That number may change a little bit as he's been
out lately. But you know, I mean, this is a
really big series where you really wish that MVP.

Speaker 5 (12:39):
Well, you're right, And that's kind of the one thing
that Brett Boone. When I talked to him the other day,
he's like things.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
You know.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
I was like, hey, He's like, I don't want to
get credit for this. I was like, all right, well,
you know, you guys are seven and three since since
you've been since you were hired. He goes, oh really,
I was like yeah, And he goes, well, you know,
things are getting better, and he said, and we're doing
it without are he said, Eron Judge and he goes, well,
I can't compare anybody to Aaron Judge, but we're doing now.
I found our big guy. So when the big guy
comes back in, that's going to change everything. You saw

(13:08):
it in just the six five or six games he
played off the injured list. What a difference it makes
when he's in there. So talked to him yesterday. If
you missed the postgame show he ran yesterday for the
first time, looked okay, he said, he felt okay. He
has not hit yet, and the hitting is of what
was giving him the problem this this go round. So

(13:29):
he does not expect to be back, excuse me, at
the at the minimum ten days. So it's probably going
to be a couple of weeks from when he went
on the il, which was what May eleventh, May eleven,
so and let's say he had fifteen that's May twenty six,
so that's uh, that's it gets you into. That's next Monday.

(13:51):
So maybe maybe that's when he can come back. But
they want to get it right, and he wants to
get it right. Daniel m says they've won seven or
last day without Singer.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Well, there you go, that trending in the right directions.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
There you go, there you go.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
Well, you know one thing about Brett Boone is he's
just baseball. Yeah mind, I mean, this guy lives, eats,
break sleeves baseball. So guess how he's spending his off
day in New York.

Speaker 5 (14:16):
You told me so. But I don't want to ruin it.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
All right, He took a trip to the replay room
at the Commissioner's office. I wonder if he's going to
go grab dinner with a little bro probably, I'm.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
Going to guess do you think pays? Uh, Brett, I'm
gonna lder Brett Brett's the older brother. Yeah, but like
he probably made more money in his career. I don't know.
Maybe they have I have a company card. Maybe Bretton
just put it on the Yankees tap.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
Maybe they have a company card. All right, A lot
to get into. We're gonna be previewing this Yankee series.
They just wrapped up the Rivalry Subway series. A lot
to talk about, but stick around on the DLS Rangers podcast. First,
we got to talk about some floors. If you know
who loves floors, Tim Cato does give Jim Cato loves floors.

(15:10):
I just moved into a new apartment, so luckily I
don't have to deal with, you know, the picking out floors,
and I imagine that'd be a pretty hard process. You
got to make sure it match the cabinets and all
the things. But Empire today is the go to shop.
They just do floors, so when you're going there, you're
not going to get scammed into, you know, the whole

(15:30):
nine yards. You're going there for floors. They're the experts
with floors. They also have this future you can take
out your smartphone and kind of virtually see what you're
getting before you buy it. Floors are pretty expensive, I
would imagine, So you want to make sure that you're
getting exactly what you want. You can do that with
Empire Today. We've got a three hundred and fifty dollars
code for you, and you're going to want that. Like

(15:53):
I mentioned, the floors are not cheap, so three p
fifty off is pretty generous, So use the God Deal.
A restrictions may apply. As an Empire Today Slash d
l LS for full details.

Speaker 5 (16:04):
Yeah, and go ahead and just parlay that three fifty
year saving uh with with Sleeper. Sleeper is my favorite
daily picks app. They're known as the Fantasy in the
Fantasy world, but now they're doing daily picks too, and
if you use the code DLS, they will match up
to one hundred dollars on your first deposit. Yesterday I

(16:25):
ended up making two dollars. Yeah, I hit I hit
a baseball and lost a couple others. I tell you
what it's It can be tricky. You know. I had
I had Djok getting ten rebounds you know in that
in that game, but it was a blowout and he
sat the fourth quarter. So blowouts are not your friend,
at least when your team is your guys on the

(16:46):
losing team, even the winning team. It's not really your friend.
But anyway, enough of that, go to a download the
sleeper app. Use the code d lls Rangers and they
will match up to one hundred dollars on your first deposit.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
Free money, folks. We love it all right. We have
a graphic of probable starting pitchers for the Yankees. Let's
go ahead and take a look. I'm liking what I'm seeing, Jeff.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
Yeah, you know, the pitching matchup certainly seems to favor
the Rangers with Corbin, who's got just it's kind of
the little engine that could you know he's he really is.
The gram terrific of Valdi is very good. Obviously, it'll
be interesting. I think this is de Gram's first time

(17:35):
pitching in New York since he left the Mets, so
he may have a little extra hubbub to put up with.
And then the Rangers go to City Field in September
to face the Mets, so that'll be another headache for him.
But yeah, they sure seem to have the edge there. However,
the Rangers aren't very good offensively against left handers again,

(17:58):
and you see Ryan Yarbrough and the guy on my
fantasy team, who's walks a lot of guys, but his
winning games Carlos Rodan. It could be, it could be
the Rangers will have their hands full that day because
you know that that means Josh Smith may sit in
one of those games. He sat out Sunday against Framburg Valdez,

(18:21):
so uh be interesting to see how that how that
shakes out lineup wise. And then yarboroughs just he doesn't
throw very hard, but he changes speeds a lot and
does a lot of weird stuff. So hey, we'll just
let them let him play out. But I think the
right the right hander thing, you know, you worry, and

(18:43):
that that left handed hitters in Yankee Stadium will use
that short porch against right handers. It's not like the
ball doesn't carry to to left field there though, So
I'm not I'm not sure that the ballpark factors are
as as big in a deal if it's a good
right hander. And and but the Yankees' best hitters are

(19:03):
right handed, I believe, you know, Judge, and they don't
have Sodo anymore. And Paul Goldsmith, who had a good
great seasons, bounce back season.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
Good start this year.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
Yeah, so anyway, you know. But yeah, and then you
throw in the offense. I guess we're gonna have the
Aaron Boone Brett Boone storyline for a day, which he's not.
Brett wasn't too thrilled about. He doesn't like to be
the center of the of attention, maybe at least when
he's in uniform. He does host a podcast, so I

(19:35):
thought that was an interesting dichotomy there.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
But you get it makes money, It makes sense.

Speaker 5 (19:39):
Yeah, But I think he wants he thinks I think
he wants the players to be getting the credit. He
doesn't want anything. He doesn't want any credit. Let's let's
say that doesn't want any credit, but he's gonna get
it for tomorrow. And I mean the USA Today has
already written a story about it. And I'm sure that
the folks in New York covering the series for the

(20:01):
Rangers this this time will we'll have a little note
on it. I have something I could crank out if
I needed to. But anyway, you know, I'm looking forward
to watching the Rangers in another series against a good team.
They've played so many good teams this year, and see
how they see how they hold up now that they

(20:23):
think the offense is going the right way, so that'll
that'll be the interesting one to see for me. Will
the offense continue to produce because you know, at this
point the pictures.

Speaker 4 (20:33):
Are exactly I asked the chat. You know, series predictions
getting a lot of two out of threes, Patrick Corbyn,
this is all lifetime against the Yankees two and oh
with the era of two three. Jacob degram Is two
and four uh three, two ERA in seven appearances, and
then Nathan Abaldi split five to five with a three

(20:54):
five but one hundred and two strikeouts in twenty two appearance.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
Well, when you when you picture the Reds and you're
going to face the Yankees a lot, and then the
Mets with the Subway series, Jacob had the opportunity to
face them quite a bit. Patrick's until this year had
always been a National League guy, so some interleague action,
I guess, maybe early with the Diamondbacks and more recently
with the Nationals. But pretty good, pretty good numbers, you know,

(21:20):
especially if one of those starts happened in the last
couple of years and he was no good with the Nationals.
So for more reason for optimism.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
The Rangers have the best ERA in baseball too. Yeah,
so I'm liking the numbers there. Yesterday's game, Boach put
out a righty exclusive lineup, so he said he was
kind of hesitant to do that. What's your what's your
thoughts on that? And then like you mentioned, going into
this matchup against the Yankees.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
Well you got to do whatever you can to get
the offense going. I think it's pretty standard now that
the both catchers will be in the lineup against lefties
one at d H. I think yesterday though, Garcia DH
because he got he got a day off his feet,
and I saw a comment in there maybe from Daniel.
I'm I'm ready for Garcia to be the everyday d H.

(22:11):
At this point, Grid of Peterson, the Raiders don't win,
don't win one of those games if if they don't win,
the de Grom start, if a doulas Garcia is not
in the right field. The guy's having a really good
defensive back bounce back year. His legs are working like
they normally do. Uh, he's just making great catches and

(22:32):
really good plays, and they just they do not test
his arm. I mean they're just runners. Do not do
not test that arm going.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Going for third bomb, it's at the right field.

Speaker 5 (22:42):
They are not going.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
So that's that's a that's a pretty good weapon to have,
you know, even when he's not good offensively, and you
can make an argument that he hasn't been good offensively,
I mean make a really strong argument he hasn't been
good offensively this year. His defensive adds value. Same thing
with Simeon and with Simmon's driving people crazy. But you know,
if you're not going to score a lot of runs,

(23:05):
you've got to get every out you can. And Simeon
and a Doula's definitely help with that. Jock, Hey, he
hit the hit the home run? What was it Saturday?

Speaker 4 (23:16):
And those walks so he draws walks.

Speaker 5 (23:20):
Does have some weird ad bats And uh, I tell
you what the other night, I don't know if you
saw me tweet this. Jack Peterson hit a foul ball
into the writing press box. That's the first time that's happening.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
Is that ball going to the Hall of Fame?

Speaker 5 (23:33):
It should? Uh, The Rangers pr staff has it because
it was hit right at them. But everybody was just
stunned because it did never have before ball never been
hit up there. And then you know, if if you
were we're above the broadcast which are very high. The
broadcast spoofs are. I like the point of view, though

(23:55):
you'll hear you'll hear Eric Nadell complain about the broad
cast booth height. We now at least we are, you know,
on the first base side near home plate. You know,
there are some press boxes that are in right field, Anaheim,
I'm I'm looking straight at you, and left field. Toronto

(24:18):
is in left field. It's a very nice press box,
but it is not anywhere close to the clubhouses. And
then who else the White Sox. Uh, there there are
along the first base line and into shallow right field.
But gosh, yeah, don't don't, don't get me started on
press boxes. Uh, the Rangers. The Rangers is just fine.
It is a little high which they had a stairwell,

(24:40):
even though it would take probably twice as long to
use the elevator. I wouldn't mind some stairs every once
in a while we've got off, we've gotten off subject
Yankee Stadium. Very nice press box, open air. Though, so
when it rains and the wind's blowing, first rod is
gonna get wet. Uh. Maybe the coldest I've ever been
covering a game was a Yankee Stadium two thousand. I

(25:03):
don't know Derek Holland was on the team. He took
a shoutout into the seventh and Robins Gano hit a
three run homer off of him and they ended up
losing the game. But I was so cold. I actually
went back and Sam in the media room. It was
just I couldn't take it anymore.

Speaker 4 (25:18):
Well, Aaron Judge Triple Crown.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
Watch, Yeah, you know what a player.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
I saw a tweet that during the Subway series. I
think it was the second game he went over five
and they the words were his batting average was down
to four oh two.

Speaker 5 (25:33):
Yeah, yeah, it's had four oh one after last night.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Geez, what a guy.

Speaker 5 (25:41):
I mean, it's it's Triple Crown Watch. Sure, but it's
it's it's it's kind of Ted Williams watch. I mean,
you know, we've had we've had guys go flirt with
four hundred later in the season, namely Gwinn and George Brett.
Brett was nineteen eighty. I think Tony Gwynn was not.

(26:04):
In nineties. I want to say, obviously they fell short.
So it's been shoot, what was it forty one forty
two when Ted Williams hit four h six. You know,
the curious thing about that is that sacrifice flies what
are known as sacrifice flies today counted as at bats,
whereas no other player appearances, and so if if by
today's scoring standards, he would have batted I think four nineteen.

(26:28):
So anyway, the guy was good. You know, hitting three
hundred is a lost start these days, so for Judge
to be where he is, and it's really it's not
even close. Second place is close to him in batting average,
so what a player. Rangers will have their hands full
of him. But even when he's hitting four hundred, it
means he gets out sixty percent of the time. Well,

(26:49):
he also walks a lot, but you know in his
ad bats, his on base percentage I think is around
five hundred. So you're gonna see a lot of Aaron
Judge on base this series, though maybe not, maybe not
with de gram and Avaldi who just don't want guys.
So we'll see how, We'll see how it shakes out.
But always liked the Yankee series, you know, I guess

(27:11):
I always go back to the twenty ten ALCS, the
games in Yankee Stadium. It was games three, four, and five,
Game three, Derek Holland probably maybe maybe John gray usurped him,
but a critical relief appearance, maybe the most critical and

(27:32):
Rangers postseason history, when he entered for Tommy Hunter and
kind of quieted the Rangers while Benji Molina hit a
three run homer to put the Rangers in the lead.
And then the next night Cliff Lee was just it
might be one of the best games I've seen pitched
with my own eyes. Just dominated, absolutely dominated. Josh Hamilton

(27:53):
hit two home runs in the game, is like nine
to nothing, wiped him out when it had three to one.
Next afternoon, CJ will and spit the bit so they
had to come home to clinch. But I'll never forget.
I'll never forget.

Speaker 4 (28:06):
Those games for like nostalgia. Are you like a Fenway
guy or Wriggly or Yankee Stadium.

Speaker 5 (28:14):
It's not this Yankee Stadium. It's cool and yeah it's
Yankee Stadium. It's super nice, but it doesn't have the
charm you if you will, of the others. I I
like to look at Wrigley Field. I don't like to
cover a game there. Small Fenway. They've kind of kept

(28:34):
up with the times better than Wriggly has so I'm
more of a Fenway guy. I think if I had
to pick one of those three, I would I would
definitely go a Fenway.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
Well, we were talking about, you know, Dad strength to
for you know, Corey seeger one when he gets back in.
But Aaron Judge is well just circling back there. And
you know, last like he's on a mission because last
World Series he was mad, Yeah, very good. With Soto leaving,
you know, I think that ignited even more of a
fire in him. Oh you know, maybe the money thing,

(29:05):
But I want to go go out and show you
made the wrong decision. I watched this big breakdown on
MLB Network about how he's you know, he wasn't pitched
to a lot in the World Series and how he's
I mean, for him to have a better season than
he did last year is mind boggling. But he's on
pace for that. Yeah, I mean, this guy's a monster.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
Yeah, he's the best player in our league. Then you know,
in the National League has Otani, who's you know, throwing
bullpen sessions, and it's going to start pitching at some
point this year. But I think right now, just based
on the offense, I think I take judge judge.

Speaker 4 (29:41):
Absolutely, yeah, absolutely, there's a comparison. Yeah, I'm taking judge
all day long, all right, except this weekend. Prefer to
not take judge this weekend. All right. Well, coming up next,
we are going to be talking wrapping up things around
the league, and then we have questions and answers for
you guys. Submit them. We're going to get into them

(30:01):
in the fourth segment. So let me tell you about LinkedIn.
If you're looking for a job, LinkedIn is the place
to go. You can post a job, post your job,

percent of people using it say that they help them

(30:21):
find high quality candidates. It kind of takes the guesswork
out of the hiring process. Hiring somebody can be probably
a headache. You don't know who you're getting, and I
imagine that people lie a lot on their resumes.

Speaker 5 (30:33):
Yeah, ye know, well, I mean even professional coaches have
been caughtline on the resumes and fired.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
There you go, so you're going to take the guesswork
out of that. Two point five million small businesses use
LinkedIn for hiring, so you can find your next great
hire on LinkedIn today post your job for free LinkedIn

Speaker 5 (30:57):

But you know one thing that I'm not good with.
I lean heavily on Missus Wilson for this is managing
our money. UH, and Monarch Money will definitely help you.

percent off if you use the co dls.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
Yeah all right, So, uh let's talk about the umps.
The last umps you game. That Rocky series was horrible,
y Astro series.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
The Tiger series series. Tiger Series would be the worst
of the last three series for the Rangers as far
as the umpiring. I tweeted this, and you tweeted something
else yesterday too when Joe a spotted got Let's take
a look at the pitch. So, I mean it was
both ways. Ick Marley was bad in both ways. So

(32:56):
he was at least consistent in that regard. But that
was that strike that was called. There appeared to be
very obvious below the zone to the naked eye. Nick
Marley called a strike and Joe Aspota went ballistic and
and I don't know he's gonna have to pay a fine,
but it was pretty It was pretty uh blatant the

(33:20):
at bat in the eighth inning. You know, I don't
know if you guys follow up scorecard on Twitter, but
he Nick Marley did did not quit himself nicely, at
least on that uh. And the two most egregious miss
calls were in Jack Lighter's last at bat to Cam Smith.
If you looked at the MLB dot Com Game Day

(33:43):
strike zone box, all six pitches were strikes, all right,
one was a very borderline, But there were two missed
strike calls in that at bat that changed everything. You know,
Nick Campsmith should have struck out twice instead he ends
up flaring a single into in the center and put
runner at first and second with no ounce instead of

(34:05):
just a runner at first and one out and the
rest is history. So I don't I don't like blaming umpires.
You know, there's so much that unfolds during a game.
You know, Jonahim got thrown out a third on a
really poor bas running decision. So I think that you
can definitely uh point to all parts of a ballgame

(34:27):
as to why a team lost. But this this one
was very egregious and very instrumental in the outcome of
the game. And you know, there's a story that that
Ken Rosenthal and Jason Stark have written at The Athletic
that I retweeted on my Twitter account that talks about

(34:48):
the Challenge system and the robotomps and how it's flawed
and you know, it's not one hundred percent accurate, and
so players are wondering well off asout one hundred percent
off it's only ninety nine.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
But humans aren't.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
We want humans are not one hundred percent accurate, and
you know they're probably about ninety five percent accurate. Challenge
system's got to be in there, you know, and maybe
it's going to take some more fine tuning to get
it accurate, to reduce the margin of error. In the
Hawkeye system, which is used in tennis, it's going to

(35:19):
be using the NFL this year for marking.

Speaker 4 (35:21):
The US has some good replay fees.

Speaker 5 (35:23):
Yeah, so I think that I think you need the
You need it for situations like this. So maybe Jonaheim
challenges the first miss strike, all right, that changes the
imbat the bat entirely. Cam Smith was batting ninth. He's
not their number one hitter, right, He's not their clean
up hitter. He's their number nine hoole hitter changes everything,
gives the advantage to Jack Lder, who you know again

(35:48):
in that bat through six strikes, yeah and get.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
A strike, and his outing was masterful. It was very
very I mean the stat line doesn't spoiled it. Yeah,
so I agree with you. There are you out on
the robom.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
I like the challenge system. Not everybody in spring training
got to use it because there are It was only
in parks where teams shared facilities, and there are fewer
of those in Florida than in Arizona. So not a
lot of not a lot of.

Speaker 4 (36:19):
The gering is caring got it.

Speaker 5 (36:22):
So but I saw in that story that of the
calls that were challenged in spring training, it was slightly
more than half were overturned. So you know, half the
time the players right, half the time the umpire's right.
But it needs I just think if the technology is there,

(36:43):
even if it's at ninety nine percent, you gotta know it,
you gotta try. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (36:48):
It was funny though, because Espinata that was like his
sixth time getting thrown out in his career. Bochie's number
is up there. But if you have the six most
wins of all time as a manager, I mean, you're
going to get out a lot. You're around long enough,
you're gonna see enough and uh and be tossed.

Speaker 5 (37:04):
I think, I think, I think Bobby Cox is still
the all time leader.

Speaker 4 (37:07):
All time leader. Is that a record you'd want to have?

Speaker 5 (37:11):
I don't know, maybe stand up fight for you guys. Yeah, maybe,
I don't know. I'm sure. I'm sure the Braves paid
the fines for him a few times, and so on
and so forth. But you know, the fines get more
expensive with each one, of course. Yeah, so all right,
Bobby is probably playing paying pretty heavy there at the end.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
Let's talk about the rivalry weekend, fun weekend and sports,
no doubt about that, and a lot of good storylines too.
I mean, we talked about the Subway series with Sodo
playing the Yankees. But one that was very important for
the Al West Dodgers and Angels.

Speaker 5 (37:51):
Yeah, that was interesting. The Angels pulled off the sweep,
you know, And and and also pretty important for the
Rangers was that the Mariners swept the Podres. So that's
that's a pretty big deal, you know, And and both
those in All West teams are really good and All West.

(38:12):
You just keep looking at the Giants are playing well
against or the right back in the thick of it,
Diamondbacks are uh they struggled actually against the Rockies. At
least they're they're pitching staff did. I think they won
two of the three games, but they ended up giving
up a ton of runs. Merrill Kelly was pretty good
yesterday though, but Zach Gallon was terrible Saturday. He's having
some he's having some issues this season. Not good timing either,

(38:34):
because I think he's a free agent after this year.
But uh, you know, to see the Mariners sweet podres,
that's uh, that's kind of a blow for for the
Rangers and all the other West teams because now the
Margins two and a half games. But you know, it
is it is fun. The A's and the Giants no
longer across the Bay from each other, which sucks. But

(38:56):
you know, Wilmore floor is he had three home runs
the other night and he was asked afterward about playing
in the ballpark there in Sacramento, of the minor league park,
and he said, oh, we always have a good time
when we play at Oakland, and somebody correct him and
he goes, now, they're always going to be Oakland for me.
So that's that's kind of nice. But yeah, well, I

(39:17):
mean it's hard. Dave Dave Raymond said it once, and
you know, it's it's just you're just so used to
it after all these years. It's like the Guardians Indians thing.
I still have to catch myself from saying Indians and
the like the Redskins commanders have no chance. It's I'm
always going to see red Skins. I just can't. I
just can't get over it. So but yeah, it's a fun.

(39:41):
It is a kind of a fun weekend in baseball. Now.
You know, are the Mariners and Padre's true rivals, Hell no,
they're not. Are the Yankees and the Mets? You know
the Subway Series. I'd say the Yankees Red Sox is
bigger than that bigger revalry. But it's now it's a

(40:01):
division It's been a division matchup, yeah, for one hundred years.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
So they can just think they want to give people
in New York something to find about.

Speaker 5 (40:08):
Maybe yeah, and maybe maybe it's for the Mets. Maybe
it's more for.

Speaker 4 (40:12):
The Mets fans to be honest, Yeah, that's probably valid.

Speaker 5 (40:15):
But then the Nationals and and the Orioles, neither team
were for Squad really right now, Big If you missed
the show yesterday, you know we talked about the trouble
of the Oils are having their last place they can
their manager there at least are Buddy Kyle Gibson and
trying to get that turned around. So there's a lot
of interesting you know, rivalries don't necessarily think of as rivalries,

(40:42):
but you know those two teams they have a dispute
about their TV deal and who can watch it and
who can't, and they're not They're not very they're not
very far apart either. I mean I drove from I
took an Uber once from Baltimore to thee It was
twenty eighteen because the All Star Game was in DC

(41:04):
and I was going to cover the All Star Game
and rather I just dropped my car off and took
an Uber and it was like it was it was
very reasonably priced. I don't know what to be today,
but yeah, it wasn't that expensive. It was cheaper then
it would have been to like drop my car off
at the National Airport there in DC and then and
then commute to my hotel. So anyway, I don't know

(41:27):
what the point of that story is, but anyway, they're
very close. They're a lot closer than you thought. Oh yeah,
and then Galaga champ Boston Atlanta rivalry. True in air quotes,
he says, but it was the Boston Braves once. Yes,
so that's got to be it, right, Yes.

Speaker 4 (41:44):
Also, we're geting a lot of Mariners winning the division. Noted, noted, everybody.
Tigers there are two games ahead of the Dodgers and
Mets for the best record in Major League Baseball. They're
going to visit the Cardinals, who are undefeated in their
last seventh series, and they move within two games of
the n All Central lead early in the season. But

(42:06):
what are you thinking about Tigers Dodgers World Series?

Speaker 5 (42:09):
Well, it's I think that I think the als wide open,
I really do. I think, you know, if the Rangers,
if the Rangers can get there, with the Grom, Evauldi Malley,
that's three really good pitchers that I don't know if
i'd want to face in a short series.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (42:29):
If if Tigers are counting with countering with scooball all right,
that's really good.

Speaker 4 (42:35):
But then in a different year than last year.

Speaker 5 (42:37):
Yeah, yeah, but still he's gonna be really good. But
you know, then then who else, said Flaherty. I'll take
my chances against Flaherty Yankees. You know, with with rodn
Max Freed, who's having the sensational start this season. I
guess it's lucky the Rangers are missing him. But you know,
those two could be pretty good. And I don't know who.

(42:59):
I don't know who's them emerge as their third starter,
but you know they're going to get the rookie of
the year back at some point. Gil is how it's
pronouncing g I l yel luise yal. He'll be back
probably in July, so I don't know, yeah, yeah, And
then the Mariners, if they get they get Logan Gilbert

(43:20):
back healthy and can go with I don't know whoever
whoever they want to pick out of that rotation, as
long as they're healthy. They're dealing with some injuries too.
Pottery's are going to get you Darvish back. He's on
a rehab assignment right now, so that might give the
Dodgers and problems because the Dodgers they're pitching sets beat up,

(43:42):
beat up right now, and Kirby Yates just went on
the injured list.

Speaker 4 (43:46):
I proposed a fun question in the chat. Everyone healthy
what's your starting rotation for the Rangers.

Speaker 5 (43:51):
Oh yeah, I just wondering what those all those answers were.

Speaker 4 (43:54):
We got a de gram Evo, Malley, Corbin the lighter.

Speaker 5 (43:59):
Yeah, right now, I would probably sub out Brad, Bradford
and Corbyn. I just I just think that Bradford, and
I know I'm kind of splitting hairs here, he just
seems like he's a I don't know, that's a tough

(44:20):
one hit. I don't know. I don't know. Let's go
with Let's go with the four right handers, and then
I can't choose between the left. If I have to choose,
I would no, I'll stick with Corbyn because I think
that Corbyn would be starter than a better reliever, and
I think Bradford would be a better reliever than a
better starter. So that's my answer.

Speaker 4 (44:41):
There, You have it, all right, Well, we are going

Here, Yeah, spectacular day. And I don't I don't know
what you guys were if you guys were able to
catch the MAVs show. But towards the end of Jason
Kidd's appearance, he said he wanted a dal As hat
and a deal A shirt. Well, and I think that
you people, if you don't have your stuff yet, you

(46:29):
need to get a deal A shirt. The hats are coming.
The hats were working on the hats. They're getting closer.

Speaker 4 (46:35):
Jeff will be the first.

Speaker 5 (46:37):
Everyone everyone all have. I mean, I love this Hall
of Fame hat that I got last year at the
Hall of Fame before the Adrian Beltray party because I
needed a hat to match my suit. But anyway, stored
out Alltity network dot com. That's where you get your merch.
I am wearing the for the Love of Texas shirt.

(46:58):
Actually have two of these thanks to my wife and
I fail only to communicate, and that's fine. I wear
them both. They're comfortable, they're they're I've worked out in
one before, I've slept in them. I've done just about
everything you can do in these in these shirts and
I love them. And again I have fifteen of them.
Soll uhy network.

Speaker 4 (47:16):
On John Moore? Did he got his dime?

Speaker 5 (47:18):
John More got one today? Yep, he sure did.

Speaker 4 (47:21):
Well. Go ahead and while you're there, be a die hard.

Speaker 5 (47:24):
Yeah, I mean you got to. You got to get
the free shirt.

Speaker 4 (47:26):
If you do the math. What is the math on that?

Speaker 5 (47:29):
Well, the shirts are thirty five and you're getting it
for free, and so then you're you know, you're doing
some track thirty five and the membership is like.

Speaker 4 (47:38):
They have all these deals all the time too. But no,
you want to be a die hard because we do
have events. We had a golf event that got delayed rescheduled.
It would have been fun. You could have went on
went and played with Jeff Wilson.

Speaker 5 (47:53):
That's right. It was available like fun to play with not.

Speaker 4 (47:57):
A bad price. We curse a lot on here too.
I do curse, but go ahead and become a diehard,
all right. So off day, So we wanted to ask
some questions. I took it to Twitter first.

Speaker 5 (48:08):
Twitter.

Speaker 4 (48:10):
Fun question. I kind of want to ask right now,
how many relievers do you trust with the lead and
the playoffs right now? And how many relief pitchers would
you trade for at the deadline? Man?

Speaker 5 (48:24):
Hm, trust them? How like? Trust them to close the game?
Is that? Is that the question?

Speaker 4 (48:30):
Yeah, I'm gonna go with the that kind of situation.

Speaker 5 (48:32):
Well, you know, I think at this point the Rangers
would would have to do matchups. I think they'd have
to play matchups. You know, Garcia, I've said it many times.
I don't care for the left handed closer, but I
I you know, he he definitely has a battle plan

(48:54):
against lefties and righty's. That's that's different. He pitches him differently,
and he's had success so far. Yesterday, now I was standing,
you know, Luke Jackson came back and had a nice
outing yesterday. You know he really everybody has to command
their fastball to make their off speed pitches work, but
he has his curveball can be really really good. Basically,

(49:18):
I think what the question is getting to, would I
like the Rangers to acquire a true closer? The answer
is yes, yes, definitely, a very strong yes. I don't
know that who's going to be available. You know, with
the Cardinals playing so well, Ryan Helsley seems like he
may not be available, and that's a that's a big deal,

(49:41):
you know. So they'll they'll find somebody and it may
not be you know, remember in twenty fifteen, the Rangers
got two relievers at the deadline, Jake Diekman and Sam Dyson,
and they ended up they completely changed the face of
that bullpen. They were set up guy Sean Toolson was
the closer, but if it got to the seventh inning,
the Rangers were really really good. So right now, I mean,

(50:09):
you know, if Martin is healthy, I trust, I trust Martin.
I probably trust Martin most of all, a healthy Martin.
Beyond that, though, for like a playoff atmosphere that you
guys are talking about, Jackson has postseason experience, h Armstrong does,
Garcia does not. Web has some because Rich Mitch Garver

(50:32):
hit a Grand Slam against him. So anyway, I don't know.
I don't know that I trust a lot of them,
if I'm being perfectly honest.

Speaker 4 (50:38):
Well that's why we're here. There's another question. I think
you'll like this one. Do you think we have any
offensive prospects who could step up and make a real
impact or is it more likely to trade for a
bat if we make a trade. Who would it before?

Speaker 5 (50:53):
Yeah, you know, I don't. I don't want to put
Subastian Walcott in the major leagues at this point. But
he's he's really holding his own as a nineteen year old, Yeah,
nineteen nineteen in Frisco, and you know, you look at
the numbers and just across the board and you're thinking,

(51:14):
this guy's really nineteen.

Speaker 4 (51:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (51:16):
And it's getting better too, you know, And and it's
going to get better. I know they've moved O Soona
up to a round rock and I think he's done
okay there. It's too small of a sample size to
declare if he's ready or not, but the Rangers loved
him the spring. Foscu has been nice down there. Crim

(51:36):
has been nice out there, but it just hasn't translated
for Foscue at this level. And it hasn't. It didn't
translate for Krim now. Maybe it will the next time.
I don't know, But I don't know if there is
an impact back at triple A or double.

Speaker 4 (51:51):
At Sam Hackerty's done lately.

Speaker 5 (51:53):
Sam Haggerty has been really really, really good. Yeah, but
I don't know that, you know, I don't know if
that there's an Evan Carter right now, like the twenty
three Evan Carter. I don't know there's a twenty three
Evan Carter. And he basically came from Double A. He
spent like two weeks at Triple A and they called
him up. Maybe maybe that, maybe that happens, maybe Walcott

(52:13):
gets hot and maybe they're like, we can't live without
this guy. But where are you going to play him? Yeah,
because he's a short stop. All right, you're not going
to move Corey Seeger out. They talk about, well, he's
going to be a Rye fielder. Well, we just talked
about how great defensively. You don't want to put some
guy out there that's ever played the position. So I
don't know. That's a tough one. That's a tough one.

Speaker 4 (52:35):
A long way away. But Spores.

Speaker 5 (52:39):
Spores will be back in like July. He says. The
worst case scenario for his return is August first. He
wants to be back before the All Star break. He
is throwing bullpens right now. Uh so is Bradford. John
Gray is not throwing bullpens, but he is throwing. John
Gray is a guy who is going to be interesting.
I know his name was thrown around our chat.

Speaker 1 (53:00):
You know he.

Speaker 5 (53:02):
Okay. So if if if let's take your rotation question further,
if the five current guys in the rotation plus Rocker
plus Bradford plus and Gray are all healthy, what are
you going to do because you can't have any man
rotation and I don't think Rockers built for relief?

Speaker 4 (53:17):
Do you think just six?

Speaker 5 (53:19):
No? No, because you're if you're in contention, you need
to grom and EVOLDI and at this point Malley pitch
as often as possible. So I would say that Gray
becomes this this unbelievable option we talk, especially especially if
Martin's hurt, especially if somebody else gets hurt, especially if

(53:41):
these guys starts spitting the middle a little bit, he
becomes an intriguing option.

Speaker 4 (53:47):
Well, we talked to a bout about it at winter meetings.

Speaker 5 (53:49):
Yeah, he wasn't oppose and John Gray is not opposed
to it, even though he's going into free agency. I mean,
he would rather start. But you know, it's easier on
the body, and we know that a.

Speaker 4 (54:02):
List of injuries doesn't work quite long.

Speaker 5 (54:05):
The armworks all his other injuries except when they're broken,
but all his other injuries aren't haven't necessarily been forearm
and shoulder. It's been leg, knee. Uh, he got hit
by the line drive once in the forearm that cost
him a starter, or to this thing with the broken hand,
Gallaga Champ, Yeah, we can put Grain in the bullpen
and get him back sooner. That's that's entirely correct. So

(54:25):
that's something else to think about. And then Daniel, what
about David Bednar pirates turn rebuild mode. He's been terrible.
They optioned him to the minor leagues at one point
early in the season. Maybe it's a change of scenery
scenario for him, But I don't know that he's better
than any of the Rangers right now. And somebody else
had mentioned on Twitter, Craig kimberl who's in with the

(54:49):
Braves or he's in Triple A. He's really he's pitching really,
really well. I don't know. Maybe you never you never know.
These closers will go through highs and lows. It wasn't
not a good year for Kimberle last year, but maybe
he thinks he's figured something out. A question from Joseph
wondering what what what role Win can step into if

(55:12):
he continues to do well well? It depends on the opportunities.
But for him to he has to get big ley
opportunities and excelling those. And then we shouldn't forget about
Emiliano Teodo, who is back with Round Rock after being

(55:32):
shut down with his shoulder fatigue. He needs a couple
more outings, I think before the Rangers consider him. But
it could be he could be like this week. It
could happen this week that he gets in the work
they want to see. He's got to throw strikes though,
That's the big thing with him. He's got to throw strikes.

(55:53):
And then all the way at the beginning, Elijah, we
have the question from our man down under, where is it?
Where is it? Where is it? Oh, it's Dino there.
It is Chris Stratton, guy who the Rangers traded for
with Jeorge Montgomery and twenty three just got released by
the Royals. I don't know. I don't know if they'd

(56:17):
make a claim on that. I haven't seen what a
stuff is like this year. Apparently it's not very good
if a contending team is looking to part ways with him.
But the Rangers could use another experienced option, that's for sure.
So I don't know.

Speaker 4 (56:34):
Are your thoughts on Rocker in the pen.

Speaker 5 (56:36):
No, I don't think it's Rocker in the bullpen. I
don't think it. I don't think it serves him well
as a somebody who's again in his first full season
back from Tommy John, still trying to figure out some stuff.
So I don't I don't think. I don't think I
like him there. I'd rather him be starting at Triple A.
But we'll we'll need to see what it looks like

(56:57):
when he comes back, what adjustments he was able to.

Speaker 4 (56:59):
Make, He's doing. How many rehubs starts.

Speaker 5 (57:01):
Well, it's multiple, it's going to be more than one.
I think I think it'll end up being three. But
you never know what happens. Somebody might need to go
on the injured Listen, he might be their best option,
and they might have to go short, and you know,
let him finish his rehab in the majors or his
building in the majors. So that's that's another question that

(57:26):
that's gonna pop up here in a couple of weeks.
You know, well, what do you do with Kamar Rocker
and Triple A might might be a real thing for him,
especially if Corbin's getting outs and and still pitching well
and if Lighter has you know, he put together two
good starts on the homestand so there you go. Uh

(57:46):
one large scoop is asking is the range is? Is
there a Rangers a closer in the Is the Rangers
closer in the organization right now? I don't know, great
and great Maybe I don't know that Toyoto, you know
they can throw that on him. I guess kind of
like Nephtali Follies had it thrown on him, but Felie

(58:09):
had it thrown on him in April of twenty ten,
not in October, not in July or August or September.

Speaker 4 (58:16):
And then my favorite, when we had Andrew Chafin, he
used to always walk around in a shirt says field Starter. Yeah,
and I was like, that's it's great marchandise.

Speaker 5 (58:28):
One and then and then Skyler Hale's I don't know
if we want to talk about him, but double A
throws one hundred, was in Big League camp, participated in
that no hitter last week, got the last outs there.
And I tell you what, Cole Drake, I know he
was on the Weekly Show. He's our last guest on
the Weekly Show. That guy can pitch man and he's

(58:48):
been really good, good stuff. Mitch Bratt another lefty. Different pitchers,
but Mitch Bratt's premium strike thrower. I would suspect that
he's due for a promotion pretty soon because he's He
was at Double A last year too. But if we
want to go down to the Double A, think about
those guys there maybe options.

Speaker 4 (59:08):
You are the minor league encyclopedia for us. One thing
not asked in the chat, but I think people do
just have a lot to say about Simeon because he
gets paid X Y Z all these things. If you
could share some perspective to a Rangers fan or you know,
let's have that conversation of what what is it going
to take for Simeon to click? You know, do you

(59:30):
think when Seeger's back that one two punch is that's
something that he needs to elevate his game?

Speaker 5 (59:37):
Like, yeah, you know it's it's I guess if you're
looking looking to be comforted he We can go back
to his first year in twenty two. He didn't hit
his first home run in the season until May twenty eight.
He had started to hit in May more so than

(59:59):
he's sitting now, but he didn't show the power until
he hit that home run. So maybe maybe maybe he's
on the same path, maybe maybe something's about to click.
He's a start to about to heat up and get going.
You know, he has been drawing walks, so that would
that would be an indication that he's not chasing as

(01:00:19):
much as he was early on. And and you know,
if he's going to lay off that slider and forced
pitchers to throw him strikes, then he's gonna he's gonna
do better. He had a hit yesterday, a solid single,
came up empty in a spot early on where the
Rangers could use the hit to get a run home
with two outs. So it's still not there. Obviously, you know,

(01:00:42):
the one seventy whatever average tells you that. But if
you want to go back in his personal history, go
to twenty two and kind of look at what he
did after after May, and maybe you can start to
feel a little bit better about what's ahead.

Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
Proposed a question and the chat, who is your MVP
of the Rangers so far this season? And we had
one large scoop of love. Nasty Mate is the MVP
so far? Also, like he should be more. In the
conversation of a Cy Young, they're doing ranking. Yeah, they're
doing rankings and he's you know, getting his way up there.

(01:01:19):
But uh, someone Daniel said de Gram on the pitching side,
Langford on the offensive side, Josh Smith MVP so far. Yeah,
I think can't disagree with that.

Speaker 5 (01:01:31):
Just you know, he's hidden, he hits for some power,
he steals bases, he plays all over the field.

Speaker 4 (01:01:37):
Is that you're.

Speaker 5 (01:01:40):
Yeah? I think so, And then I would I would
actually cast a vote for Tyler Malley because it's been unexpected.

Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
We're we're carrying the conversation into overtime. Thank you for
watching the DLLs Rangers podcast if you want to come
hang out the stick around on YouTube.

Speaker 5 (01:01:55):
All right, Yeah, so biggest surprise would be cool or Malley.

Speaker 4 (01:02:01):
I think will be surprised. We're gonna superlat.

Speaker 5 (01:02:05):
Who's the best rookie? Uh? Do they have any rookies?
I mean, I don't think they even have any rookies,
do they? I'm trying to think Garcia is very young.
I mean, am I just overlooking somebody completely obvious here?
And I feel like an idiot when they pointed out in
the chat a rookie. I just don't think they have

(01:02:26):
any My brains, I guess I guess Cole win with
one two scoreless Indians. I don't know. I don't know
because Carter's not a rookie and.

Speaker 4 (01:02:37):
Carter's not a rookie.

Speaker 5 (01:02:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
So, and that's my favorite topic of conversation of why
at Langford's playing time versus having a harder Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
Yeah. If the Rangers call up Osuna, who would play
center field between o Sooner and Langford? I think Osoner would.
I think they really like Langford and left. They don't
want to have him think about worry about something else.
Not that he would worry. I don't think the guy
worries about anything. But they liked the idea of him
just being in one spot and doing everything he can

(01:03:07):
at the plate. So that's how I would answer that one.
I don't think, but I you know, I don't know
this this uh you, Haggarty is is showing pretty well
in ciderfield, and now you have Polar healthy again his
lighter still a rookie technically, yes, Gallagan Champ, there you go,

(01:03:29):
there's your there's your Rangers Rookie of the Year. I
was thinking only position players. Well, then I guess I
went to win. Rocker is still a rookie, so uh,
lighter than Rocker, then cole Win, then we'll go cool
cool in for his one outing. I would you know,
I do want to see you soon to play more
Triple A. I mean, I you know, everybody got excited

(01:03:51):
about him at Double A or at spring training when
it's like really really hard to evaluate players did great.
He did great at Double A after a slow start.
I'm not saying he's not a good player, but I
don't know that he needs to be in the major
leagues right now. Maybe maybe in August, maybe when rosters
expanded September, maybe if there's a key injury to an

(01:04:12):
outfield or maybe at that point you do it. But
even then, I think he only platoons. So we'll see
how that plays out. But right now, just they just
I think the Rangers have the oldest roster in baseball.
I think they have the oldest team in baseball, even
with the even with Carter at twenty three and Lighter

(01:04:33):
at twenty five and Rocker at twenty five or twenty six,
I think they're now when Langford. Langford's only twenty three,
so you know they've got they've got a real young
They have some young players. But you go and look
at the older guys. The Grahm's thirty six of all
these thirty six, Martin's gonna be thirty nine, Jacob Webb's

(01:04:55):
not young Seegers thirty Simons thirty five, Evos thirty five.
Maybe see means not thirty five yet, but it means
younger than I and adults is order than older than
you think because of the whole Cuba stuff. Ye, so yeah,
there there are some older guys on this team.

Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
But anyway, well, it's gonna be a fun few days
we chatting out. It's gonna be a fun few days
in New York. Come on hang out tomorrow. We're gonna
be setting up the series, John Radagan, we'll be back

one o'clock Wednesday, post game show Thursday, then off Friday,
