Speaker 5 (00:27):
Yeah, more moves coming. Indeed, Hi there.
Speaker 6 (00:30):
Welcome to the DLLs Rangers Podcast. John Radigan here, Jeff
Wilson there in Seattle. On top of everything going on
in this very very busy, frantic down to the wire
trade deadline day. We're thirty minutes from the actual deadline
and we just get word, Jeff, not confirmed by the
team yet, but pretty good sources saying the Rangers are
(00:51):
to acquire Merrill Kelly from the Diamondbacks. And we have
not yet heard who will go back in that trade.
But it's one of two trades, uh, to help the
pitching staff today.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:04):
And and this one, Uh, this one makes headlines.
Speaker 5 (01:07):
Jeff, it sure does you know? And then you know,
I think the Rangers didn't. I know, they didn't enter
the deadline, uh seeking starting pitching. I think though that
once once all the closers, especially Bednar went off the board,
they had to they had to go to plan. I
don't know, Yeah you are, but anyway, you know, so
(01:33):
if you're not going to beat him with with a
stronger bullpen, then you have to beat him earlier in
the game. And you have to do whatever you can too,
you know, take take a load off the bullpen. And
Merril Kelly will will will do that in theory. He
can work deeper into games. He's a veteran guy. Obviously,
(01:55):
you know the the the Diamondbacks won one game in
the World Series the Rangers, and Merrill Kelly pitched that game,
started that game and was was excellent. So I think
that that's one way to help the bullpen, if you will,
by adding another top tier starter. Now what one of
the one of the young starters is going to lose
(02:15):
his job, Jack Lder or Kumar Rocker and guess what,
they throw really really hard to have dominating stuff that
can help in a bullpen. So you're you're you're kind
of you know, help helping the bullpen in a in
a roundabout way, and it's not going to stunt their
development rocker or lighter. It may help them actually, you know,
(02:37):
go to the bullpen, save some bullets. See how your
stuff plays. You got to throw strikes. When you're a leader.
You can't fart around you going there and attack and
uh and and maybe that will will help them down
the road. But that's what it looks like. This this
move that just you know, kind of broke and again
hasn't been confirmed by the team. If you see me
(02:57):
looking at my phone is because I'm sending text messages
or receiving tech messages. But it's it's a big deal.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
It is a big deal, and we will be keeping
an eye out for what the you know, in this case,
what the Diamondbacks will get in return. The other pitcher
and player acquired by the Rangers thus far here at
the trade deadline is Danny Kohloom.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
Who are Kulam?
Speaker 6 (03:22):
Yeah, Kulom Kulom, And of course he's the Twins pitcher.
That's French, by the way, Kulom, and he's that the
Twins pitchers a lefty out of the bullpen. They didn't
need him to save a lot of games this year
because they had Duran, but but he's not. He's not
(03:43):
that that closer guy, Jeff, he's done it right, Yeah
he's not. But he's but he's not if you're looking
for the lockdown closer. He's a high leverage guy. But
but he is not a lockdown closer at this point.
So you know, they would have liked to get, like
you said, a bed Nar. You know, Helsley was gone yesterday.
(04:03):
But guys like that would have would have been more
enticing to the Rangers. They just got. They got too
expensive and Coolham did not get expensive, right the Rangers.
You know, the Rangers. You had to be a pretty
good draft, I mean a prospect nerd to know who
the Rangers had to give up for him.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Yeah, and Ken Roosefald just tweeted that Cole Drake and
David Hageman are going to Okay, the Diamondbacks and there
may be more. Somebody said three players are going. Cole Drake,
his you know, is a favorite among the prospect types. Yeah,
prospect followers in in our chat and around the team.
(04:47):
You know, he's from Wiley, so that kind of stinks that, Yeah,
traded from his hometown team. He just got moved to
Triple A not that long ago. Tall, lanky left hander
David Hageman, like the Garrett Horn just returned from Tommy
John surgery. He's a fifth round pick last year from
West Virginia and the Rangers were very high on him
(05:12):
after the draft, saying, Hey, keep an eye on this guy.
Throws hard, got some big game experience at West Virginia.
So but but you know, I think he's he's either
at Hickory or Downy or not down East Hub City,
So he's not he's not about to burst onto the
scene whereas Drake was. So that that's that's a that's
(05:33):
a pretty good get really for the Diamondbacks. And again,
you know, these prices are high, and I think that
you're going to see the Diamondbacks are picking up some
of the money that's owed to Kelly. And it's not
a ton, it's seven He was making seven million this year,
so we're at about a third of that. But still
it's enough to enhance the package a little bit. Yeah,
(05:54):
do we know if he's under contract. Kelly is not
under control beyond this year. This is the last year
of a very very team friendly three year twenty four
million dollars. Boy, I was about to say it.
Speaker 6 (06:06):
If you get him for another year for seven million something,
I'm pretty happy about that.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
So so if the Raiders want to keep.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
Kelly, then they will certainly, they'll obviously they'll have to
step up and pay him.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Yeah, yeah, that's for sure. So I don't want to
mask over Danny kolom Here, a guy who during the
off season a couple a couple of our viewers mentioned
that would be a great pickup. He's only making three
million this year, he you know, and he's a reverse
(06:40):
splitz guy, so meaning he's a left hander who does
better against right handers than lefties. Now, he does good
against lefties, Okay, he has a one point one six ERA,
so it's overall, yeah, it's not like lefties are hitting
four hundred off of him, but he is holding right
handers below two hundred, so that that's an interesting arm
veteran guy has been around, so that that's where they are.
(07:03):
And I still, I still, I know for a fact
that they want to add a catcher, and I wonder
if they still have time to do it. We're twenty
three minutes from the deadline, and uh, I wouldn't I
wouldn't be surprised if they sneak one in under the
wire here. And it looks like Rosenthal just said they're
(07:23):
still trying to acquire philm Matan from the Cardinals. That's
that's one that we we've mentioned a d LS and
and and and maybe they can do that too. Good happens. Yeah, Yeah,
that's that's that's how big of a deal listens. Yeah,
the alarm is, the alarm is going off.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
And somebody, did Suarez just walk into the building again?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
I think he's I think he has reported. Maybe that's
what it is.
Speaker 6 (07:50):
Maybe that's exactly what it is. They're going crazy in Seattle.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
And the Rangers are still, you know, as we know,
working and working and you can you can mute for
just a minute, Jeff, maybe it's gone okay, good. Yeah,
the Rangers still working it. They will work it right
up to the deadline and beyond and and the way
this whole trade deadline day has progressed, Jeff, we talked
(08:15):
about it last night during the postgame show. It seemed
like this was probably going to go right down to
the wire for the Rangers. And the main reason for
that is, look, somebody, I think it might have been
Leon tweeted to us earlier. You know, boy, you know,
Ray Davis is making Chris Young GM this thing as
if they're the pirates.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
But the reality is that appeared that.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
That, you know, the ownership was going to be pretty
steadfast in that we're not going.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Over the CBT.
Speaker 6 (08:46):
And if that's the case, it just makes it hard
to get deals done until the other team is quote
unquote desperate and really wants to make that move.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
Yeah, you know, it's it's you know, I wrote about
it yesterday. It's it's frustrating, and I understand where the
fans are. I don't know this for a fact because
he hasn't said it to me, but I guarantee you
that that Chris Young gets frustrated by it, no doubt.
And and boy would they have loved to have had
(09:19):
David Bednar. Yeah, for sure they would have or even uh,
you know, maybe they get in with with Hellsley, maybe
they get I don't think they would have been done
to Ran because the twins were asking for too much.
But it sure seems like Ray Davis put put the
Rangers in the front office in a tough spot, you know.
(09:39):
But and and let's let's be honest. The farm system
isn't loaded. Now, there's a big gap. You know, there's
Sebastian Walcott, he's kind of you know, double as an
upper level Uh, and their next best prospect is still
waiting to have Tommy John surgery, right with Rosario and
then you and then where are you gonna go? Well,
you probably go to the either this year's first round
(10:02):
pick or last year's first round pick Malcolm Moore. And
you know, you can't trade draft picks from this year
for six months. But it's not like the Rangers have
a huge farm system right now, and so that's also
been kind of a handicap. But it looks like somebody
is saying Mitch Bratt has been traded. I thought I
(10:24):
thought Bratt might be one to go to go go
in the Kelly deal. Yeah maybe, I don't know. Maybe
they got them both. But I haven't seen the Mitch
Bratt thing. I suppose I could text him, but they
might be a little busy. Yeah, true, he may not
(10:45):
want to answer that one. So anyway, Uh, you know,
this stuff is flying off the shelves, and you know
a lot of reporters these days are now at the
Mercy of the national writers who you all follow, I'm sure. Yeah,
it says that Nick Nick pie Caro, who is with
(11:06):
one of the Diamondbacks beat writers, is saying that Mitch
Brad is the third player. So that's a lot, that's
a big that's a big Yeah, that's a big hit
on the on the Rangers farm system. You know, he
just shed three starting pitchers, yeah to him at at
upper levels. So that's that's a big one. Both both
(11:29):
good guys. Mitch was the fifth rounder in twenty eleven.
He's from Canada. He went to because of the pandemic,
though he went to high school in Georgia, lived with
lived with some family friends down there in the Atlanta area,
uh and and was drafted there. He had committed to
Florida State and the Rangers were able to get him
(11:51):
away from that. So that stinks. But Diamondbacks are getting
a really good guy and and really you know the
biggest most people know Mitch Brat for a start that
happened at Bank One Ballpark wherever they call it now,
what is it called? What is that thing called Chase Field.
(12:12):
He was pitching for Team Canada and or Baseball Classic
against the Team U s A. It didn't do very well,
you know, and you could tell it was a big
moment while he was upset by it. But he's a
good dude because I called him the next day and
we talked about so anyway, so there's some there's some
familiarity if if you're a baseball fan in the in
(12:35):
the Phoenix area with Mitch Bratt. So, but this is
this is the price. This is the price you pay. Okay,
this is this is what happens at the trade deadline.
You overpay. You know, there's no guarantee that Merrill Kelly
is here beyond the end of the season, right, and
you are going to see free prospects potentially become major leaguers.
(12:58):
Uh now, the good news is it's in the other league,
I suppose, yeah, But you know it's it's a it's
a pretty big, pretty big package there it is.
Speaker 6 (13:08):
And of course, the other side of that coin is
though there's no guarantee that Cool Drake or Mitch Bratt
or Hegeman develop right into all that. So you know,
that is the that is the balancing act. But but
just based on who these guys are as prospects, this is.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
A pretty big haul.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
But again you're you may they may still I mean,
if if we're hearing and adding and doing the math correctly, Uh,
maybe the Rangers need still need Arizona to pick up
some of Merril Kelly's remaining salary.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
Uh well, I think that's the case. I think that's
I think the money is is uh is is a
factor here because that seems like a pretty pretty big package.
But again it's only two and a half million dollars,
I know, I know. So what you know either way,
you know this this if it is that the Diamondbacks
(14:09):
are having to pick up the money, this is on
Ray Davis. Yeah, you know, at the end of the day,
whatever happens with them and whatever happens with Kelly, uh
and unwillingness to to you know, spend out of your
very deep pockets to get your business, to improve your business,
(14:30):
if you're going to run it like a business, invest
in your business. And because you know, we all saw
what happened when the Rangers won the World Series. There
are five hundred thousand people at that damn parade, yeah,
you know, and and Ranger gear yeah right, buying shirts?
You know that the what was it the next morning
that the line was wrapped around the damn building to
get the T shirt it. You know, he should recognize that.
(14:56):
And if and if they're having trouble getting uh sponsors
for or the TV network that they've started up. Everybody
likes a winner, baba, you know, and companies want to
be part of a winner. So and fifty percent of
the overage. Let's say let's say Kelly takes the over
by three million. All right, so you've got to pay
(15:17):
the three million and then another one point five. That
ain't bad. Ray Davis can find one point five under
his damn driver's seat, right right. I mean, it's it's
so so, you know, I'm I've kind of gone off
a different direction. I thought I would. The good news
if the Rangers are are making upgrades here at the
last minute. The bad news is you wonder if they
could have done more and what the farm system is
(15:40):
going to look like after this?
Speaker 6 (15:41):
Yeah, all right, so we've got more to talk about here.
There was one more trade. It was for not surprisingly
cash considerations. We'll get into that next. And also what
the rest of the American League West has been doing.
It's it's been a very busy, very active division we'll
talk about it next. It's the DLLs Rangers podcast, is
it you, Jeff?
Speaker 5 (16:02):
I think with the I haven't even looked moday. I
tell you what. I tell you what Empire today they'd go,
they'd go over the luxury tax threshold. That's how much
they want you to have the home field advantage with
your house and your flooring. These are these are like
the flooring experts. It's all they do. They're not selling
(16:24):
toilets or lumber or anything like that. They are floors, floors, floors,
and they're going to come to your house. You schedule
free and home messament. They come to your house. They
help you match the furniture to the right colors of flooring,
find the best fits for the high traffic areas and
all of that. And they can do it. They can
start the next day anyway, three hundred and fifty dollars off.
(16:46):
If you go to Empire day dot com slash d ls,
do it, get started. You won't regret it. You know
what I need?
Speaker 6 (16:52):
Actually, maybe right there where those where those bobbleheads sit
is I could use a Saturday neon So maybe I
could get they make them personally, you know, for you,
I could get one that says dllls, you know, or
I could get DLLs Rangers podcast, whatever I wanted. A
Saturday Neon would make it for me. They also have
(17:13):
some just sitting there in stock for around fifty of
your favorite colleges and universities. So Oakland University, my alma mater,
is not one of them, or otherwise i'd have the
ou Gold and Grizzlies sitting right behind me there. But
as it is, that's not one yet. But Saturday Neon
is a great product. It's seventy five bucks for a
(17:35):
Neon sign that's not really Neon, but it sure looks
like it is. Lights up a room, shows your loyalty
and really isn't that expensive to take your man cave
or your office like this to the next level. So
go to Saturday Neon dot com, use the code DLLs,
and get ten percent off your Saturday Neon product. All right,
(17:59):
So the Cody Hoyer trade to Detroit for cash considerations,
Jeff is so far anyway, and we've got twelve minutes
ish before the trade deadline expires. But you figure the Rangers,
I mean those cash considerations, right, You have to think
we're an effort to minimize the hit and to give
(18:23):
them just a little bit more money to spend.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
Yeah, you know, it's interesting because Hoyer, if you go
look at what he's been doing at the Triple A.
He was kicking button, taking names. He was on the
forty man roster. You know, he is a former Cubs
prospect who many thought would be the next great Cubs closer.
His arm fell apart and it's been a while to
get it back to where it was. He was terrible
(18:48):
in spring training. The Rangers did bring him up in June.
Maybe it was late May. He made an appearance at
Tampa Bay to you know, help the tide hold over
things as the bullpen was collecting itself, I guess. But
he had a weird, a weird minor league deal that
(19:10):
if the Rangers had called him up, they were it
would have put a pretty big dent in what they had,
what cushion they had left before the luxury tax, so
they'd been very hesitant to call him up. So that
the Tigers acquired him. And I'm a I don't I
don't know this. I haven't followed it after it broke,
but I'm assuming that that he's going on there on
their major league roster. He's good. Yeah, and if he's not,
(19:33):
then he will be very very soon. But anyway, that
kind of tells you where the Rangers were money was,
you know, and so. But but to trade to trade,
Choyer gets them relief on the or created a spot
on the forty Man, which I'm guessing they're going to
use for either Kelly or kul Ohm. And if they
get mate film mayten, they'll need another one. So it's
(19:58):
crazy right now, my my, my twitter feed. Yeah, there's
this stuff happening all all all over the place.
Speaker 6 (20:08):
Yeah, it's flying around. It's kind of fun to do
this at this time of day. I've never actually been
doing a show live as the deadline hits, and it's
actually pretty fun and exciting.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
We appreciate you.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
Guys hanging out with us too, and and uh, we're
going to try to bring you all the very latest.
Jeff may have to peel off here in just a
moment as he heads over to hear from the Rangers
from see Why and all the other principles involved about
what the Rangers are doing. Meantime, elsewhere in the American
League West, if you were with us last night and
if you have social media at all. You saw the
(20:43):
big news. Uh is that? Well, actually this news came today.
I was going to mention the Suarez thing, but let's
get to the Astros thing.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
Today.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
Carlos Correa is headed back to Houston and he will
play third base. He told the Minnesota Twins Jeff there
is only one place he would go, and he is
thrilled to have an opportunity to get back with his buddies,
and Houston says he's been, you know really even still
talking to them and texting and talking baseball with them
(21:13):
almost every day. Uh. They also acquire hey, Sue Senchez
from Miami. So you know, the Astros, like everybody else
in the West, realizes this is a very competitive division.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (21:26):
They can hear the footsteps of the Mariners and the
Rangers in particular, and uh, and they knew they had
to get better.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
Yeah. And I think there's there, you know, if you
if you believe what's being put on the on the Twitter,
they're still trying to get a starting pitcher. Yeah, and
and so we'll see how it goes. But they needed
to do something with Codez hurt for the rest of
the year, right with Like I think it's the worst
hamstring injury I've ever heard. They're thinking he's going to
(21:55):
be out six or seven months, which is, oh my goodness,
that's is crazy. Wonder right off the he must have
I don't know. That sounds like a surgery coming too.
So yeah, anyway, every team in the in the West,
uh got better except the A's. And you know that
trade that they made for Mason Miller, I was gonna say,
(22:16):
they're going to get better in the long run. Yeah,
they got they got a number three process number three. Yeah, Devrees.
I mean that kid.
Speaker 6 (22:23):
That kid is one of those regarded as sort of
a can't miss guys.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
So yeah, they they definitely. I feel like, you know.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
Again, when you're the A's, you don't really have to
be that great for three years, right, three years, you've
got to be really good because you're theoretically.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
In three years you're moving to Las Vegas. Uh, but
you don't.
Speaker 6 (22:43):
You don't have to be that great until then, and
so uh, you know, do make moves like this. But
I'll tell you what they also traded, Uh then that
was a trade with the Podres and they also traded
JP Sears, which the Rangers are gonna love.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
You don't have to see that son of a pitch anymore.
That's right, That's right. They're they're they're kryptomitis out. So yeah,
that's pretty funny. But yeah, that's that's that's that's that's
a benefit to the to the to the Rangers, I guess.
And and Rosenthal just tweeted that they're close to acquiring
(23:21):
Phil which is interesting. All right, interesting, you know he
Brainger Sands probably know him for two things. He pitched
her the Astros for a long time, and then he's
the one who's fastball broke Josh Young's arm last year. Yes,
so that's gonna be a little awkward in the clubhouse.
I assuming they won't be lockery next to each other.
(23:42):
But uh, that's that's an interesting one. So we'll we'll
have to ask Josh about that when we finally get
into the clubhouse.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Yeah, it's interesting too. I wonder if they've even ever
talked since then, right, I mean, you don't necessarily hate
the guy. You hate the accent, you know, the accident
or the act. But you know, no, of course it
wasn't like a purpose pitch or anything like that.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
So that is an interesting one. I haven't actually talked
to many guys about that in the past.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
But yeah, so the Mariners, where Jeff is, they got better.
We knew that with Josh Naylor, of course he's going
to be their first baseman. And Reno Suarez comes back
to the team. And so last night when Seattle was
getting ready to leave West Sacramento after playing the Athletics,
(24:36):
their plane was just sitting on the ground. Jeff and
everyone on the team is going, what the hell's the delay?
And you know how that is. You know, I've been
on charters before. It's even on charters, it's hard to
get any information. You know, You're like, why are we
You're looking outside, it's not raining. You're like, we're the
only plane here, it's late at night, what are we doing.
So they're waiting and they're waiting, and then finally the
(24:58):
door opens and in watched Gino Suarez because they were
coming from Detroit and they were going to play right
there in West Sacramento, so they waited so that he
could fly with them. And so anyway, Suarez jumped on
the plane and everybody cheered when they saw him, and
(25:19):
he went through literally and hugged every player on the team.
So uh, let's say that the Mariners will be somewhat
sky high, although uh that delayed them even further getting in.
So you know, both teams got in extremely late last
night to Seattle.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
Yeah, a couple tired teams maybe, but uh, you know,
he like he's just obviously he's just very, very super popular,
you know. And it was the seam it always was,
and you know, it's kind of kind of weird, but
I had to use the restroom before we started, and
I went in there and there was a guy in
a Mariner shirt and he had he had start or
(26:00):
leaving himself before I got in there, and I finished
before he finished. I'm washing my hands and I look up.
I'll be damned as Jerry Depoto. So I wonder what
was the last time he'd gone to the bathroom because
he Yeah, you know, that's how busy they've been. And
they also got Josh Naylor. We can't forget that at
first base from the from the back, so you know
they've done some work. They got the left hander Ferguson
(26:22):
from the Pirates. It's kind of been a quiet day,
I think for them so far. But again, we got
three minutes until the deadline, and you never know what's
gonna happen, okay, because these guys will there will be
there will be moves that are announced after the deadline passes,
(26:42):
you know, trying to sneak him into the sneak everything
into the MLB headquarters to get to get everything finalized.
It turns out those alarms that went off, I don't
know if you could tell them that A couple of
firefighters just walked behind me. So yeah, maybe this place
is on fire. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
You know, when you just told the story about about
using the restroom and you said, you know, the guy
next to me began to relieve himself. I thought you
were going to say you were in there with a reliever,
but as it turns out, you were in there with
the front office man. So yeah, anyway, that's that the
we mentioned last night. The Angels didn't do much, but
(27:21):
they they bought in the two wins against the Rangers
in the In the first two games of that series,
we could see where Perrymansian's head was.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
Now.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Again, like we said about the Rangers a year ago,
I believe that you know, in their efforts uh to
to improve their team, Uh, the Angels were basically shopping, Jeff.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
But they were shopping at the dollar store. Yeah yeah,
it had it well. I mean, you know they got
Yosemite Sam, same guy. Yeah yeah, So that's that. That
kind of tells you the level they were at at
least five below maybe the dollars store, but not not
a you know, and and you know, these things are
(28:05):
a psychological boost. And you did see that their bullpen
wasn't great, so they needed to address that, I think,
and the period to have done so, the Angels farm
system has gotten better. You know, when you're bad, your
farm system gets gets good while you're while you're stinking.
So probably doesn't hurt them to do this and see
(28:26):
what happens. You know, it's it's wide open. Yeah, no reason,
it's wide open. Yeah, no, it really is. And it's
really an exciting series.
Speaker 6 (28:35):
We're going to talk about a little bit more about
this series in the in the final segment of the show,
as we continue to get you set for the deadline,
which is nigh upon us. We're in the final minute
before the deadline right now, and at any moment, Jeff
may have to peel off for a conference call with
team personnel.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
Coming back next No no, it's not right now, But
why don't you handle these ads while I go and
figure it. There something else for equipment. Yeah, yeah, we'll
do all right.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
So we've got we've got more coming up as we
continue to wrap up Deadline day. Deadline is hitting as
if we speak, and so we'll talk about that. We'll
get to the series in Seattle. It's all coming next.
It's the DLLs Rangers podcast. And I'm actually a little embarrassed.
I thought I was putting on one of my DLLs shirts.
(29:26):
But we've got a Baseball Time in Texas one and
this one actually is All Star Time in Texas. This
is a shirt I bought at the All Star Game
last year, so it's not one of our DLLs shirts.
It's still a cool shirt. But we've got this basically
same shirt at d LS. We've got a lot of
(29:47):
great ones, including that new one with Nolan punching there.
It is down there on the lower right corner as
you're looking at the screen there and there's Nolan punching
on Robin Ventura. I've ordered the one that got Dallas
versus all y'all. That's fun to wear, especially when you're
out of town. You know, it just makes people know
we're tough, and we are. And anyway, great great shirts
(30:10):
that we have available for you. Our merchandise is available
at store dot Allcitynetwork dot com. It's very very reasonably
priced and there are sales available too. And of course,
you know, if you're going up north, as I am soon,
I actually was thinking about maybe getting a hoodie or
something because when you go up north this time of
(30:31):
year sometimes it gets cool. So anyway, start out, Allcitynetwork
dot Com is the place to go to get all
things you might need merchandise related, and that merchandise is
something you will want to wear when you go to
Las Vegas. With True Fan Travel. There's our trip November
the fifteenth through the eighteenth, and the Cowboys play out
(30:56):
there in Las Vegas. And I'll be danged if I
wasn't flipping through through my Twitter feed, you know, the
last couple of days of course a lot, and I
noticed that the Bears must be playing out there too,
because our Cchgo affiliate, same company, just the Chicago version
of our little network. They're doing the same trip. Obviously
(31:20):
not at the same time because the Bears play the
Raiders at a different on a different weekend.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
So anyway, pretty cool, pretty.
Speaker 6 (31:28):
Fun, and you should make sure you get a chance
to get on out there and yes, become a fan
of all the guys on our show at in Las
Vegas for the DLLs Cowboys podcast. Jeff's back and so anyway,
just an unbelieved. I think it might wind up being
(31:49):
a record setting day. I was on MLB Radio most
of the day to day, Jeff, and they were already
predicting that we were going to exceed fifty trade, which
would be a record.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
Yeah, it's it's just been crazy, you know. And now
that you know the deadline has passed for two minutes
past the deadline and there will be you know, things
announced here in the next ten to thirty minutes like
that that that just got just got in under the wire.
And now I do wonder if there's not an opportunity
(32:27):
for the Rangers to get a catcher here. I think
that that's a that's a glaring need for this team.
They need they need a catcher. Yeah, and well maybe
they say maybe they do it on a minor league deal,
I'm not sure, but they one hundred percent need a
darn catcher.
Speaker 6 (32:46):
Yeah, And were we saying that Maydan is a deal
or is it just still kind.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
Of Rosenthal is saying it's done. Okay, So haven't you
know none of these deals have been confirmed by by
the team. And of course I can show you all
the text messages I've sent. Uh, they don't respond, but
maybe maybe one time you'll catch them in a moment
of weakness. I don't know, but right, yeah, sure, yeah. Anyway,
(33:12):
so we're waiting on the conference call and rich Rice
will we'll let us know and and then I'll give
you the high sign and duck off. But yeah, like
the Tigers just got Charlie Morton, you know, right right,
I mean that's the thing.
Speaker 6 (33:29):
So the time the Tigers also got Kyle Finnegan as
this was just today. Uh, you know, two of the
guys that they got, and Finnegan of course, was a
guy that that was on the Rangers radar. I feel
the Tiger's got a bunch of relief pitchers and you.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
You don't, I don't know that any of those guys
are better than Will Best.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
Uh, but I guess you know, they know their their
bullpen and their their team and their system better than
we do. But it seems like they're just the Tigers
are throwing numbers at it, and and they still I
think they still need some help offensively.
Speaker 5 (34:08):
Yeah, you know, you can't. You can't. You can't overhaul
your roster completely at the deadline. But that is a
little bit surprising that they didn't get get a little
help in there. And I know they were trying to
get Suarez and yeah, even tried to break his finger
to make it happen. But you know, it's it's it's
(34:30):
the usual suspects. You know, the Yankees just got Camillo
do ball from ye from the Giants. He only throws
one hundred to two, you know, so. Uh. But but
the teams that are willing to spend the money, don't
don't give it, don't give a squat about the luxury tax.
You're going to see them making moves and and really
the big moves. And now, while the Rangers appears of
(34:52):
making some pretty substantial news, I mean Merrill Keller, Kelly
has been a trade deadline name. He's been out there
for a long time. Uh, He's one of the big
ones that was available, and the Rangers got him. But
at what costs? You know, we'll figure that out. A
couple of years. But yeah, now it's time to go.
You know, it's they've gotta they've got a playoff spot
(35:14):
to win. And their job got harder because again, the
Mariners got better, the Astros got better, the yank you know,
the Yankees got better. I don't know what the Red
Sox did.
Speaker 6 (35:24):
Yeah, I'm seeing a tweet right now. They just got
Dustin May from this.
Speaker 5 (35:28):
I did see that Dustin May from justin Northwest High
School carrot Top look alike. So, you know, the playoff
race tightened, and uh, the Rangers may not have gotten
what they plan to get going in, but they did
(35:48):
get better. You know, Merrill Kelly makes him better. I
think that uh Maydan and uh and Kulo make him better.
Do they still have questions at the back of the bullpen? Probably,
you know, but you know, if you're if you're still
thinking back to what happened in twenty twenty three, you know,
you just got to get hot at the right time.
Speaker 6 (36:10):
Yeah, yeah, there were a lot of questions exactly two
years ago right now about that bullpen right now, and
and if I remember correctly, in twenty three, the Chapman
move came significantly before the deadline.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Yeah, it was June twenty ninth or June thirtieth, that's
what I thought.
Speaker 6 (36:29):
Yeah, yeah, So even once they got him uh there,
and they were using him, you know, in a high
leverage but not a closer situation, it seemed like there
were you know, they were there were still many questions
that that bullpen was still basically blowing more. And then
it's saved blow more games than it's saved.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
Yeah, and and you know, you saw the clerk hit
and sports was really really good, and they used they
used Chapman very very uh specifically and in a limited
way in the in the postseason, but he still got
some big outs for him. But yeah, it's just a
(37:15):
matter of getting hot. And you saw John Gray come
off the injured the injured list there, uh and Pittrooler
really well in the last two series. So you know,
John Gray is another name that that didn't get traded.
Now there's a lot of speculation he would because of
the salary and and all of that, but you know,
you're talking about a bullpen upgrade here, we're getting him
off the i L. And you know, so so this bullpen,
(37:40):
you know, just off the top of my head, looks
like you know, you're gonna have Garcia now. Now Webb
and Martin are on the injured list, I'm not gonna
include them. But then uh, you know Armstrong, Maiden, cool
Oam Milner Gray, Uh, you know, lats Uh is a guy.
(38:01):
I'm assuming that Luis Caravella will be joining Round Rock.
He might already be on a plane, all right, he
might already. Well, no, they don't have any of those
players here yet. But my point is, you know, the
bullpen got better, it got deeper. You're not gonna you
probably aren't going to see Jay glliants pitching trying to
get outs in the eighth, you know, and and allow
(38:22):
him to go back to the the role of a
long reliever who can who can maybe make a spot start.
And then again, lighter rocker is probably going to the bullpen. Yeah, yeah,
And that's a hell of a situation, it is. And
I wonder on that if you basically, if you boil
that one down.
Speaker 6 (38:42):
To who do you think is best to handle that mentally, right,
because that's a that's a big transition in the brain
for a young pitcher.
Speaker 5 (38:55):
It is, it is, you know. But the thing that
they've always talked about since the day they draft him.
You know how strong he is mentally and the you know,
the adversity had to overcome with the twenty two draft
or the twenty one draft not working out, and then
you have to add the surgery and all that stuff.
(39:15):
You know, that's been his deal. He's this mentally strong kid.
So we'll see what happens. Also, and this is good
news for him. He doesn't really have to worry about
the run game as much because right, that's true. Look
forlievers don't really have to slidestep. Yeah, you're going to
have your best stuff, put in your most powerful delivery,
and you know they want second base concentrate on the batter.
(39:38):
But yeah, this is a it's pretty eschly. I'm still
waiting to see if anything, any little thing else comes along.
Speaker 6 (39:46):
Yeah, it should be nice to, like you say, it'd
be nice to see a catcher who happened to be
a right handed hitter.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
But and I do remember we were in twenty three.
Speaker 6 (39:56):
We were literally walking to the see Why press conference
and across the field and we're walking to the press
conference that was exactly two years ago right now, and
I happened to be walking next to Neil Leibman and
uh and Neil Leeman goes, hey, we just got another catcher.
(40:17):
We just got this guy named Austin Hedges. He can't
hit a lick, but he's a he's a good catcher.
So it happened super late. I remember that the Hedges thing.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
So yeah, and you know, there are a couple guys
who might be available on waivers, air costs or Tiger
Brewers just let him go. He could be a guy
who the Rangers add, you know, I think I think,
you know, and they were talking about Ryan O'Hearn reportedly.
(40:48):
I think they're ready to move on from John Peterson
frankly or really put him in a limited role because
you know, why would you talk about a left handed
hitting DH if you're right, if you were ready to
make a move there. So there's gonna be a lot
that shakes out here the next couple of days. And yeah,
there is.
Speaker 6 (41:06):
Although now I saw that O'Hearn and Loreano both went
to the Padre as well.
Speaker 5 (41:12):
Yeah okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean the pod Now,
look the Padres.
Speaker 6 (41:17):
Uh, I suppose if somebody and somebody is gonna win
this deadline, the Padres might have something to say about it.
Speaker 5 (41:26):
Man, have they been active?
Speaker 1 (41:28):
A J.
Speaker 5 (41:29):
Preller is going crazy today? Yeah he has. And you know,
the Mason Miller thing is a big one. The bullpen
already had three All Stars. Now you have this guy,
and you're looking pretty good. They didn't they traded for Sears,
who all right, whatever, Yeah when he when he's not
when he's not facing the Rangers, it's like, okay, he's
not that good. Yeah, and then you know, so there.
(41:53):
But they didn't trade Dylan Cees, who most people thought
was going to get traded. So they've loaded up on arms,
they loaded up on bats. I mean, they're just kind
of loaded up. So and the Dodgers are vulnerable. I
know everybody talks about, oh the great payroll and great roster,
and it's true, but you know, all their pictures, it
seems like are always hurt. I know Snell is coming
(42:16):
back this weekend, but they have issues. They have a
lot of guys on the internet list and everybody found oh,
they're going to win one hundred and twenty games. They're
not going to win a hundred and twenty games now,
So you know, when you get them in a short series,
you know, if you get five good innings from your
starter and you have this bullpen like the Potterys have,
could be trouble. It could be a tough matchup for
(42:38):
those Dodgers or anybody for that matter. Yeah, it really would.
Speaker 6 (42:41):
And it's got to be somewhat frustrating if you are
a j Preller or really any other GM in that
division to try and fight against that that monolithic budget
that the Dodgers have. And again, as you know, we
remember I said at the beginning of the year during
spring training, Dodgers ain't winning a World Series.
Speaker 5 (43:01):
I stick by it, uh, and I don't think they will.
Speaker 6 (43:04):
And so just because and as people were I think
I said it in response to people just hating the
fact that they just keep throwing money at it. Well,
that's not necessarily what wins. The Yankees proved that over
many times over the years. Uh, they spent the most money,
but they weren't winning that many World Series, at least
(43:26):
not lately.
Speaker 5 (43:26):
So anyway, Uh, you know that.
Speaker 6 (43:30):
But the Padres, that's just like all right, here we go, here,
here's our chance. Let's see if we can do it
this year. And sure, and who knows, maybe maybe this
is it. You know, it would be uh, they've been,
but they've never won.
Speaker 5 (43:41):
Right yeah, and again you know you just got to
get a spot in the tournament. And last year, look
how close they were to beat in the dots, right right,
So yeah, you know that's that's uh, that's gonna be
an interesting one down the stretch there, because you know,
the Giants sold, the Diamondbacks sold, the Rockies are they
sold years ago, so you know, it's it's it's a
(44:03):
two horse race, and those teams have got a lot worse.
So you know you're gonna see you can see you know,
a the second place team in that division with let's
say ninety five wins and be the be a wildcard team,
and like the Rays were a couple of years ago
when they won ninety eight games and were a wildcard
and yeah, yep, yep.
Speaker 6 (44:23):
So anyway, busy day, active day as it is. The
trade dougline has expired. Like you say, Jeff still may
have to bug out of here. If he does, we'll
thank him for his work and hope we can hear
from him again later. But if not, we'll just keep
chatting about this for the next fifteen minutes or so,
talk mostly about the upcoming series with the Mariners.
Speaker 5 (44:44):
Next on the DLS Rangers podcast.
Speaker 1 (44:47):
Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds at Midmobile.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
We're bringing back our promotion every three month plan for
fifteen dollars a month.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Give it a try at midmobile dot com slash switch
from king.
Speaker 4 (44:56):
If we have dollars for three months, QUI only fife
dollars on month required to customer off for firstree months
only speeds lefter. I think guite to networks by text
some fees extra.
Speaker 6 (45:02):
But if today has proven anything to you, it is
that you need to become a die hard. And I'm
getting I'm hearing that clock tick right now on this
this die hard deal, and I don't want you to
miss it. I think we're in the final forty eight
of this deal, and so you've got to go either scan.
Speaker 5 (45:23):
That QR quote or go to alldlls dot.
Speaker 6 (45:26):
Com slash join and get that thirty six dollars deal
that's fifty five percent off. It's a crazy, crazy deal
to basically get all the content we give you for
three dollars per month.
Speaker 5 (45:38):
You also get twenty percent off.
Speaker 6 (45:40):
Any and all of our events, including that Cowboys trip
to Vegas that we talked about earlier.
Speaker 5 (45:47):
So there's there's lots and lots of reasons to become.
Speaker 6 (45:50):
A die hard, including today, I said, proves it because
of all the stuff that is behind that paywall that
Jeff's going to write about has already written about. If
you haven't had a chance to see that, then you
haven't had a chance to be as up to date
as you would like to be as a super fan.
And we have one of those guys, one of those
jets for each of our teams. We've got a Clarence
(46:13):
Hill who's with the Cowboys and Ox, and Sam Nessler
does the work for the Stars, and Tim Cato does
our work for the Mavericks. So great team of writers
that keep you completely up to date and keep you
on top of your fandom. Become a die hard for
just thirty six dollars within the next day or two.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
Are we talking merch? I thought we talked merch already.
I don't know, Yeah we did. Yeah, just keep telling
more about the my heart. Yeah, yeah, you know. I
worked for the Forwork newspaper, which is now, you know,
non existence when it comes to our sports coverage outside
of TCU. I guess they covered the Cowboys still and
then and then the Dallas Paper very good writers too.
(46:58):
But my god, is it? Boy? Is it ever? You're
not going to find a better deal out here right now?
So go ahead, come a diehard again. The thirty six
dollars is fantastic to get the free shirt you renew
at the normal price next year. But who cares. You're
coming out way way away ahead in the game.
Speaker 6 (47:18):
Yeah, all right, So series against these Seattle Mariners. You know,
the bad news for the Rangers as they go into
this thing is they could sweep the series, win all
four games and not have the tiebreaker. The Mariners have
already won the season series Jeff, with a seven and
two mark against the Rangers, including a sweep when the
(47:42):
Rangers were out there earlier this season. So yeah, again,
I mean, not like anybody in the clubhouse is thinking
about that or worried about that, But it's a little
annoying that you think doesn't in a way, it doesn't
matter what we do if we're tied at the end
of the year.
Speaker 5 (47:58):
Those sobs get the uh, they get to the tie break. Yeah, Well,
you know if you if you sweep them, they also
fall four games behind you. That's right. It's a little,
a little cushion there between yourself and the tiebreakers. So
it's a big series, no doubt about it. It was
a nice day here today in Seattle, but it's gonna
(48:18):
get cold, no, no question about it. Always does always,
and uh, you know, for for right handers. So that
helps the Rangers out a little bit. They're a little
bit better against the right handers. There you see the
pitching matchups. I'm assuming they're not going to discuss with
Rocker or Lighter their future and the rotation for a
couple of days. No, probably probably make that decision on oh,
(48:40):
let's say Sunday. But anyway, you know, you like de Groam,
you expect that to Grom will not have two stinkers
in a row. And and then my man, my man
Patrick Corbyn and uh, look at that, Look at that
that that those numbers after what he did last year
in the previous five years, is U pretty happy for
(49:01):
the guy? So anyway, but but they're facing a much
different lineup. You know, I'm assuming I haven't seen the
lineups yet, but I'm guessing that As will be in it. Yeah,
you know you might as well. And so that's that's
another bat you gotta worry about and if they can go,
(49:21):
if the if the Marriers can go, huh, cal Rawley,
Sworez and uh and Naylor. That's that's that's pretty yeah
up there in the middle of the lineup. So they
got a little bit better on offense. So I still
don't think they're gonna have a good offense just because
of the ballpark. But my point being, it's a different
(49:43):
looking Mariners seem than it was there at the end
of the end of June when the or may or whenever,
all those Dame extra inning games were in the end
of June, when really the Rangers could have won all
three of those games, and of so good of the Mariners. Yeah,
and they did.
Speaker 6 (50:00):
So the reality is the Rangers face that George Kirby Knight. Uh,
he's faced the Rangers nine times in his career. He's
seven and zero with a one fifteen r Yeah. So
so here's what I'm saying, he's due. Yeah, he's due
for a stinker.
Speaker 5 (50:21):
He is. No, he's just he's just really good and
the numbers don't show how good he is. You know,
he was great last year. Yeah, and even in twenty three.
I mean, his success against them goes back. Uh you know,
he pitched, He pitched Game one sixty two and beat
the Rangers. It's one to nothing game. Yeah, so that
was you know, they know what they're up against. Yeah,
(50:41):
one hundred percent, Yeah they do. They have a six
game losing streak happening in Seattle. And if you go
all the way.
Speaker 6 (50:49):
Back to twenty twenty, the Rangers in forty three games
since uh, you know, since the year twenty twenty, are
you know a bizmol there, they're like eight and thirty five.
It's the worst A one eighty six winning percentage in
Seattle and it's the worst winning percentage of any visiting
(51:14):
team in any ballpark.
Speaker 5 (51:16):
Since twenty twenty.
Speaker 6 (51:17):
I mean, so you're counting you know, the Rockies and
the Nationals and the White Sox and all those teams
that have struggled the A's, all of them. None of
them have been worse than what the Rangers have against
the Mariners. So you hope that that trend just doesn't
continue it really can? They need to be better than that. Yeah,
(51:37):
they have to be and they know it. And you know,
this team does pretty well when they're up against it.
Speaker 5 (51:45):
So we'll see what happens as I look at on
the field. I might be wrong, but sure looks like
intro Suzuki's out there playing catch. So that's pretty cool. Yeah,
freshly minted Hall of Famer. Yeah, that's pretty amazing. Yeah, yeah,
it's not surprising either. You can still throw it at
fifty one or whatever.
Speaker 6 (52:05):
He is amazing. It's amazing, what good shape that guy
is in. And Abby and I were actually doing the
show around Hall of Fame and she was going when
we saw him in a suit, She's like, I don't
know if I've ever seen him in anything other than.
Speaker 5 (52:17):
Baseball clothing, you know, like he is.
Speaker 6 (52:20):
He is always even since retirement, he's always in some
sort of a uniform.
Speaker 5 (52:25):
So yeah, good for him.
Speaker 6 (52:27):
It's it's a it's a really cool place to go
to a game, uh, you know, physically cool obviously, but
also it's a it's a neat environment up there in Seattle,
There's no doubt about that, and that's that's part of
the reason why.
Speaker 5 (52:43):
So I just saw that.
Speaker 6 (52:44):
So I just got the Rays acquiring Adrian Hauser from
the White Sox. So okay, yeah, so there's still still stuff.
Speaker 5 (52:52):
Going on, but quite a journey for Adrian Hauser who
was in Ranger spring training this year and I thought
she'd maybe opening day roster and then yeah, triple A
and next thing you know, he's at the White Sox
and dealand Zeros, and now he gets traded to Tampa Bay.
So yeah, a crazy, crazy year. Yeah, and that's an
interesting one.
Speaker 6 (53:08):
So Tampa Bay did not end up trading Pete Fairbanks
at least not that we've heard of yet, and I'm
pretty sure we would have heard of that one.
Speaker 5 (53:17):
Who else was out there? And they added Griffin Jacks
to their right before the wire, so they, you know,
they always have to be creative with their finances and stuff,
and so they traded Danny Jansen, who was making a
lot of money, right, They got a young catcher from
the Marlins who's theoretically will be with the Rays for
five or six years. And they traded Taj Bradley, one
(53:40):
of their starters. But they got Griffin Jacks, so yeah, yeah,
you know, they probably got better too. And again it's
wide open here, and it is they sound like they're
twenty games out of the wild Card. They're the kind of.
Speaker 6 (53:53):
I don't think i'm hearing, Jeff, are we are you.
Is that me or is that everybody? That's okay, it's everybody, Tanner,
thank you.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Ye.
Speaker 5 (54:00):
So, yeah, it's an interesting thing.
Speaker 6 (54:02):
And I just saw a recent update or one of those,
and again, the power rankings kind of make us mad.
But I saw one of the recent power rankings that
has the top five ranked teams, all National League teams,
the top five World Series contenders.
Speaker 5 (54:19):
I think it's said they're all from the National League.
Speaker 6 (54:22):
I'm like, well, they've got to be an American League
team in there somewhere. But the reality is, I think
it's proof and it makes the point that Jeff was
just making, which is to say, the American League pretty
wide open right now. There are a lot of teams
that certainly believe and certainly do still have a chance.
The Texas Rangers among them, who have acquired as far
(54:44):
as we know, they've acquired at least two bullpen arms
and a starting pitcher in this trade deadline.
Speaker 5 (54:51):
And they've done it all within the last hour or so.
Speaker 6 (54:55):
And they've done it all, it appears, and stay under
the collective bargaining tax. And they've done it all without
sacrificing at least the farm system. Jeff, you've Beck, I'm
not hearing you yet, so that's unfortunate, but it's all good.
Speaker 5 (55:14):
You keep working on it.
Speaker 6 (55:16):
So the Rangers in the month of July are off
to a really good start. There's sixteen and eight, and
I say start, but the reality is today is obviously
the last day of July. But right now the Rangers
are sixteen and eight in July. That's the third highest
winning percentage in the American League. It's the fourth highest
(55:38):
in all of baseball. And the Rangers have a chance
to win their seventeenth game if they can figure out
a way to haul up and win that game against
George Kirby and the Mariners tonight. By far their best
month of the season, and it actually is their best
month since.
Speaker 5 (55:56):
Way back in May of twenty twenty three. Jets.
Speaker 6 (56:00):
Uh, you know, there's there's this is this has been
sustained good play from the Rangers.
Speaker 5 (56:09):
It has been and there's now fighter juts going overhead.
It's all kinds of stuff happened in today. But yeah,
you know, the Raiders are playing well, there's no question
about it. And now they have they have a lot
of work to do here. They're not they're not finished,
you know. This this they can't take their foot off
the gas and and it you know it's going to
(56:32):
be it's going to booy their spirits to see these
new new players come in, uh, to see what the
front office was able to do. They don't care about
the prospects. Frankly, they really don't. I remember, and I
told Michael Young this, and when I saw him a
couple of weeks ago, there was there was one point
(56:53):
where we're talking about a trade deadline. I was like,
asking about a trade. I was like, would you trade
this prospect? And he goes, trade them all? I would
trade them all, you know. And I told him that
story and he laughed because now he's on the other
side of it.
Speaker 6 (57:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (57:05):
Yeah, he understands it that you can't you can't deplete
your farm system. But the players are very happy that
the Rangers did this, no matter the prospect cost expense. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (57:18):
The Phillies were another team that's activized on MLB Radio
today and Jim Bowden was talking about they played a
Rob Thompson's sound bite something about, you know, being this
excited and sorry we had to go up those good
players or whatever. Boden goes he didn't care about those prospects.
He goes, he cares about July thirty first through October
thirty first, that's what he cares.
Speaker 5 (57:39):
And he's right. I mean, you know, I'll worry.
Speaker 6 (57:41):
About twenty seven and twenty eight and twenty nine in
those years. For right now, man, I want those guys,
those horses that'll help me be better for the next
sixty days and you know, maybe have an opportunity to
win a World Series. And that's that's exactly what we
talked about on the show last night, the psychological impact of.
Speaker 5 (58:02):
Not being able to get anything done.
Speaker 6 (58:05):
Thankfully, not only were the Rangers able to get something done,
but but these are these are pretty substantial moves, Jeff.
They're not you know, they're not like you Sabody, Sam
and Carson Kelly.
Speaker 5 (58:17):
Yeah, you get a guy and Merril Kelly, who, like
I said, won the only game of the twenty three
World Series for the Diamondbacks. He beat the Rangers, and
there was there was some apprehension, you know, because he
would have been the Game six starter, you know, if
if the series had come back to Arlington. It's like, geez,
they want to face Kelly again, And you know, it's
not overpowering stuff. But it's it's a couple of different fastballs.
(58:38):
I go a couple different ways. Uh, I think he
has a change up in there. And again he's a
better guy now he's been he's been on the I
l uh this year, he had a knee issue. I
think last year. I know this because he's on my
fantasy team. And uh, but again he's going into free
agency and you know what, you know what guys always say,
you know, going into your walk. Your guys always well,
(59:01):
what a better situation for him to make more money
for himself going forward than to on his new team
pitch and pitch him into the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (59:10):
Yeah, look at there, there's the numbers for Merrill Kelly,
one of the newest Rangers. So fantastic acquisition by the Rangers.
It'll make the team feel good, it'll bolster them psychologically,
and it will obviously bolster them physically as it improves
this already unbelievably stout pitching rotation.
Speaker 5 (59:32):
So it's been fun, Jeff. We appreciate you fighting through
the sirens, the firemen, the audio problems, the fighter jets.
It's like they're after you.
Speaker 6 (59:40):
But good job staying with them all I know you've
got to go here the conference call now. It's been
fun though, talking this through from from an hour half
an hour before the time. Yeah, yeah, now till now.
So anyway, enjoy the game tonight. We will talk again
on Sunday. Are you still in Yeat.
Speaker 5 (01:00:02):
No, No, Sunday, I'm coming. I'll come home Saturday night,
so I'll be in studio with you, John.
Speaker 6 (01:00:06):
Okay, you'll be in studio with me on Sunday. Okay, cool,
all right, well we'll be I will be there Sunday
to wrap up this series. Hopefully the Rangers fare better
than they have in recent years.
Speaker 5 (01:00:17):
They're in Seattle. That's going to do it for us.
Speaker 6 (01:00:19):
