I say, they shuffled the deck. Boat shuffled the deck yesterday.
And the one bit of advice he for sure took
from us is to put Josh Smith in centerfield and
lead him off.

Yeah, you know, he obviously was watching the show, and
you know, it just seemed like kind of the the
right move because you knew Jock Peterson was gonna be
in there too, so you couldn't have Dustin Harris play
center field because you had to have Josh Smith in
that lineup. And there it is from last night, and
it just made sense. What we didn't think about John

was was moving Seeger down a spot. You know, he's
still your best hitter. And there's the argument, well, your
best hitter either hit second or hits third.

And it splits.

It splits up the left right conundrum, you know, your
left right left, and it helps the bottom of the
order too. So it was good and and and by god,
what happened. They went out and scored twice in the
first run at first innings.

Amazing how it happened, you know, John Smith. And it's
one of the reasons I've just said, uh, you know,
I said it on one of the shorts that we
produced that many of you I know have seen. To me,
Josh Smith is kind of ripe to be a leadoff hitter.
I think he's kind of that prototypical guy, and he
proved it in that first inning drawing the walk, Jeff.
And you know then it was just you know, kind

of scraping together two runs with sack flies and moving
a guy over on a ground out and a single
and that's how you score some runs early.

Yeah, you know, that's that's base that's that's actual baseball
right out there, not just sitting there and waiting for
the home run pitch, which which came.

It definitely came more of them. Yeah, what was a walk,
hit ground or double sackfly and boom, it's too nothing
And my god, you know, it's the last time Orangews
pitcher went to the mound with a lead that and
that early in a game. Yeah, so uh, it's good.
And and you know, the question then became, well, if

they were going to put Josh Smith first, what were
they gonna do with Marcus Simeon. They ended up moving
into the five hole, and you know, obviously it worked
out great hit a three run homer. And again, you know,
he's not your prototypical leadoff hitter. I know he likes
to likes leading off and likes to set a tone
and all of that stuff. But right now, you know,

he entered yesterday hitting one forty one, and his on
base percentage was I don't even think it was above
two hundred. That's not getting the job done, you know.
And so yeah, I thought it was curious that the
postgame walkoff interview was Marcus Simeon and he said, yeah,
Smitty started off great, like you're supposed to with a
walk Yeah, like like saying to himself, and he kind

of chuckled, So maybe he was poking fun at himself,
but there's no doubt about it. And then it made
a difference last night, and so good, good for Josh,
Good for the Rangers for you know, good for them
for trying to get the guys going in the spots
that they are intended to be in.

You know, good for.

Bruce Botsey forgiving these guys a chance to work out
of But now though, you know, after three weeks almost
a month of the season, it's time to get going
and try something new. And this may just be temporary,
you know, it may just be all of a sudden,
Markus Simon is sizzling hot and you want them back
at the leadoff spot. That's entirely possible. But I think

as long as this is working, they're going to stick
with it. But of course there's going to be a
major change.

It's change, at least for the short term. Corey Seeger
had to leave the game. It was interesting, it didn't
I mean, he's a hustler. He was busting it down
the line, but it didn't look like there was anything extra.
It wasn't like running extra hard. And that's how hamstrings,
as Wash might say, that's the way hamstrings go. That

hamstring and you could just see it he pulled up.
Anybody who's ever had that feeling knows it. It's just like, oh,
I can't run any longer. My hamstring just said no.
And anyway, those things. The problem with hamstrings, Jeff is
we all know we've we've been covering this game for
so long. You know, they take a long time. They linger,

and when you think they're healed, you know, as Mark
macklamore used to tell me all the time, when you
think they're healed, give them three to five more days, right,
because then you feel like, okay, I'm ready and you
go back out there and you pull it again. So
it's a very very you know, and again the Rangers
training staff is fantastic and so they know, they know

(07:30):
how to bring him back from this and they won't
make those mistakes, Jeff, But just have to be prepared
that it's likely that the Rangers are going to need
to use the injured list for Corey Seeger.

Yeah, it just you know, if you watch the game
and saw the replays and all that, you know, it
was it ended the inning, The play ended the right,
so of course he's going to turn right into the
dugout and go get his glove or whatever. Actually, you know,
in that situation a guy might run through the bag
and then wait for somebody somebody else. So he turned

right and just kind of walked right into the dugout
and that was that. And then if you saw also
the footage he was walking to the clubhouse, which is
a long walk at Sutter Health Ballpark center field, he
had to he was he wasn't moving well, no, you know,
and it in it where he grabbed you know, usually
you see a gry guy grab his hamstring, he's like

grabs down by his knee. He was grabbing higher. Yeah,
so I wonder if it's if it's not maybe a
little something else. And then you think about well, his
you know, in twenty twenty three, he missed all that
time with a hamstring injury. Then last season he had
a he had a little hamstringing deal and and he
also had the true hernias. So you wonder.

How much torque or what.

I don't know what the right move is stress that
he puts on those muscles just swinging a back sure,
and you know, playing shortstop isn't easy, and he does
that well. So you know, and he's a big dude.
And we keep saying that Corey Seeger is tall. He's
I'm six one and I look up to him. He's six',
three's he's got big, legs his calves are like, huge you,

Know and so you just wonder what he can do
to prevent these things in the, future because they are a,
problem and the timing couldn't be. Worse the offense he's
he's he's the, guy you, know and you don't want
your guy to, go especially.

Hitting and it looked like maybe this lineup, change maybe
it's the, ballpark, whatever something happened last night that hadn't happened,
before and you feel good about the, changes and then
all of a, sudden you're going to be a fact

Think, yeah and even through the offensive malaise that, was you,
know certainly there through the home, stand even as good
as it was afore and two home, stand the offense
wasn't really. There it certainly, was isn't there on that
abysmal road, trip the last one they. Took but through

his offense. Right he was hitting the ball hard and

he was getting on. Base but that's also one of
the reasons they wanted to move him, down not just
the left right left, thing but they wanted to have
him in a spot where there would be guys on
base in front of, him and multiple, guys not this.
Guy and again the reality is there wasn't even guy
very often Because marcus wasn't getting so so, anyway he

won't be in the three spot or any other. Spot
we haven't heard it officially, yet but you can tell
just by looking at that injury and just know at
very least he's off, today, Right, well he's. Shocked if
he's in the, lineup, yeah there's no chance he plays.
Today they're doing AN. Mri they'll know the exact you,
know the extent of the, injury and they always Proceed

will lead off. TONIGHT i don't think he'll be, off,

top of the lineup looks exactly like it did last,
