Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for MIT Mobile.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Now.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
I was looking for fun ways to tell you that
Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for fifteen dollars a
month is back.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
So I thought it.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Would be fun if we made fifteen dollars bills. But
it turns out that's very illegal. So there goes on
a big idea for the commercial. Give it a try
at mintmobile dot com.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Slash switch up from Team at forty five dollars for
three month plan equivalent to fifteen dollars per month required
new customer offer for first three months only. Speeds low
after thirty five big bites of network's busy taxes and
fees extra Cement mobile dot Com.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
With sixty two games left, you really don't talk magic numbers?
Or do you find out next? On the DLS Rangers podcast. Yeah,

(00:57):
so sixty two games left and you really don't talk
magic numbers. With sixty two left and yet we'll throw
this one out there. One. Let's explain here in a second,
John Radigan, Abby Jones, Jeff's still on vacation, and it's
basically my daughter always says this when it's me and
her daughter and their female dog it's the girl gang.

(01:20):
So we kind of got a little girl gang going
in here, don't we. Yeah, because I fit in in
that girl gang. So I'm doing okay here too. So
it's the girl gang talking Rangers baseball with you today.
I know I'm a tough sell on the girl thing,
but in any event, one abs becomes the magic number.
And it's so boring and it's so annoying, but it's

(01:43):
one win tonight, right. They just the Rangers just like
they can't assume anything, especially offensively, I think really at
this point they could start to assume things on the
pitching side, but offensively they can assume nothing. They took
two of three from the Tiger this weekend. That was fantastic.
They didn't hit worth a dang.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Right, Yeah, so one barely a buck fifty?

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah tonight one just go out play well, you know,
a good team, offensive approach to the game, and get
a victory and then tomorrow one more.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
That's what Cory Seeker said. It's just one day at
a time, you know. That's how you take the season
and look at it. You can't look at it as
a whole or one sixty two. You'll get overwhelmed. You
can't look at what you just did or what you're
about to do against the Atlanta Braves. You look at
today and what they have today is a guy that's
not that great on the mound for the A's and
then Jack Lder, who's been surprisingly you know, better this

(02:43):
entire season, and the Rangers have ACE one and ACE
two hopefully on the mound. We're going to get into that,
but yeah, I mean, it's looking like a good series
for momentum to welcome the Braves.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, no doubt about it. And first things first, that
is the athletics. And by the way, all about Sports Zone,
we appreciate you and we'd love to have more chatting
in here. We're going to get into the whole trade situation,
which mostly at this point involves a relief pitcher, but
we'll get into all of that coming up in the
third segment of the program. So yeah, we'll talk about

(03:19):
who and what and all that. Is Josh Young ever
coming back? Yeah he is, And Bruce Bochi Pat was
asked about that specifically on Friday because they'd made so
many moves, including calling Cody Freeman up and all those things,
and they said, you know, well, what Josh Young. Oh
my guy said, Josh, Josh, you'll be back. He's just

(03:42):
down there figuring it out, right, And that's exactly what
he has to do. He just has to figure it out.
He had home runs and back to back games over
the weekend, so.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Easier said than done to just figure it out.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
He is a big leaguer for a reason.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah, yeah, Look, his only problem is he gets inside
his head, right, he overthinks things. I saw something on
Twitter the other night where it said me trying to sleep,
just a calm guy, and then me overthinking things, and
it's somebody with like a shovel to the back of
your head. Right, you can't sleep because you're batting yourself

(04:18):
with a head with a shovel. And that's a little
bit what the very cerebral Josh Young does. But he's
figuring it out. He will be back, and he could
be back sooner rather than later. So that's really good.
But this series is, as Abs mentioned, is a good one.
It's against the Athletics. And one of the things I

(04:38):
said and one of the things I write on there
is the Rangers have now won back to back series
from first place teams. The Astros and the Tigers. Can
they win a series against a last place team? And
that becomes a challenge, right, because again it's a different focus,
it's a different mentality, and abs it gets back to

(04:59):
that one again, Right, You can't think about them And
I don't think the Rangers do this terribly. I think
they're pretty focused on this kind of thing. But you
can't think about this as three games against the last
place team. You have to think about it as one
game where we have to go out there and do
what we do.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Right.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
The Rangers are coming off of back to back series
wins of you know, first place teams, and playing up
to the competition is such a great thing for this
baseball club to do. But it's the games that you've
got to win that you've got to win. Respect to
every single team in Major League Baseball. They're professional athletes.
But when these you know, bottom of the half teams

(05:38):
come in, I mean, these are the games that you
need to build your confidence, You need to do damage.
You need to plug in those guys that you know
might be a little frightening in that Sunday night baseball
lineup and things like that, and put them in these
opportunities to work out the kinks on you know, the
baseball players, yes, but maybe not the Yankees and the

(06:00):
Dodgers and Tigers and and things like that. So yeah,
I mean, you're you're hoping, you know, with who's coming
in today, the numbers kind of point to maybe a loss,
but you're hoping that the Rangers figure it out.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Well. The reality is that the the A's, the Athletics,
they don't have a Terrek Schouoble. Almost nobody does, right.
The Rangers kind of do from the other side in
Jacob de Gram, but there are so few Errek Schouble
Jacob de Gram Paul Skeens type guys out there. There's some,
there's others, but that Terrek Schouble thing was ridiculous last night.

(06:36):
And the Rangers, you know, got right back into that
baseball game in part because of great pitching, really great
pitching from Jacob Lats in the bullpen tonight. As Abby said,
they send Jack Lyder to the mound and and he's
got it. He's gotten an extra day of rest because
of the All Star Break and all that, which is fantastic.

(06:58):
And we had a little bit of ups and downs
from Jack Lider in the first half of the season,
which is what you expect from a rookie. But overall
body of work, you would say Jack Leider is developing nicely.
And I will say this, I don't feel any sense
of trepidation or nervousness about sending him out there and thinking,

(07:21):
as we did a lot last year, that he's going
to be that the moment's going to be bigger than him,
and or that he's going to spit the bit. He
hasn't done that here. He's had some setbacks, but he
hasn't spit the bit. He hasn't let you know, his
emotions get the best of him on the mound, which
we saw happen last year.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, Jack Lder's coming off of a win against the
Astros was ten days ago. It was his first win
since May thirtieth. You know, he he walked four batters,
so that numbers up a little bit. But Jack Lder's
been you know, I use the word pleasant surprise again.
I mean I think going into the season, people thought
Kamar Rocker was going to be the guy that kind
of stepped up to that role. Jack Lder has done

(08:02):
a great job. They the A's have a lefty on
the mound today today and the Rangers have lost seventeen
of twenty three games against left handed starters this season.
That's a little bit of a shocking number, but you
know you're gonna take your chances with Jacob Lopez, and
my money's on Jack.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah. No, I like that too, And I like the
way this Rangers offense is trending. I don't like the
way it appeared and performed against the Tigers this weekend.
As Abby said, was it actually under one fifty the
batting average or right at it?

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Around one?

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yeah. They got four hits last night.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
They were consecutively all three nights.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Yeah, all three nights they get four hits. They didn't
score until the eighth or ninth inning with a ninth inning.
I get no eighth inning on Friday. Yeah, And so anyway, Yeah,
they need to do better offensively than they did coming
out of the gates, and I think they will because
the first two weeks of the month of July, the
Rangers offense was basically as good in most categories as

(09:01):
anybody in baseball. They've broken through we think this problem,
but again back to one, right, they have to do
it again tonight. If they do it tonight, I think
we'll feel a lot better about ourselves and the team.
I think your point as about confidence was so important.
You can build your confidence against teams it becomes contagious.

(09:26):
We've said it a million times, but you can build
your confidence against teams with guys who don't have Terrek scoogls.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
Well, here's the thing. A win is a win. You're
gonna take them all. Winning against the Tigers, I mean
a sweep would have done a little for this club
because they are the best team in baseball, and especially
Eric's scougble reigning so young winner. But I think when
you don't win against the teams that you should, it's
almost even worse because you're like, man, we really should

(09:54):
have won here, and you know, we were kind of
looking up there before the show started. The Rangers have,
you know, one of the tover schedules for the rest
of the season facing above five hundred teams. But there's
good news because the Rangers. Let's just have this all right.
So the Rangers took two or three from the Tigers
over the weekend. Their next nine games before the trade

(10:14):
deadline come against teams with losing records. So you got
the A's, the Braves, and the Angels. Okay, so I'm
not saying those are all chalk them down as a
sweep every series, but you really need to play. This
is a very important stretch of baseball, especially before the
trade deadline. The Rangers have the sixth best record since
June seventh, twenty one and fifteen. Yeah, so the you know,

(10:37):
they need to keep on the momentum that they're going on.
It's great and it's really exciting to beat those good teams,
but you've got to win against this.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
This half true, and the reality is you got to
win series. You know, I mentioned last night on the
show if you got the postgame edition that Abd and
I did after that that Trek Schooble game. I was
standing in the dugout this weekend and talking to Matt Hicks,
one of the radio announcers, and of course Dave Raymond
and hicksy brought up He said, you know, the Rangers

(11:07):
did so well on the road this last road trip.
They were five and five. That's and against that competition
and the way they started that was a really good
road trip. Okay, especially when there was a four game
series mixed in. Those are difficult to win. So okay,
you were five and five. You beat the Astros two
out of three, you're feeling good out of your about yourself.

(11:27):
But in order to make that count, to make that
worth anything, Hixy said, I think they need to go
six and three on the homestand and right now they're
off to that start, right that's the pace they're on
six and three. Well, how do you get to six
and three? Well, you win two out of every three
game series, and they're at six and three. There it is.
There's the rest of it. The Athletics, as we mentioned,

(11:50):
who don't have a home. I mean they do, but
it's a bad one. They're here for the next three games.
They take Thursday off, and then it's the Braves over
the weekend. The Braves who are underachievers. They're at the bottom,
not the not last place in that East, but they're
only because Washington's in it. They're second to the last
in the East. The A's are last in the in

(12:13):
the American League West. So these are teams you have
to try and fatten up on. And I agree somebody
said earlier in the chat, we desperately need a sweep.
I don't know if it's desperate, but we need to sweep.
It'd be nice to sweep one of these teams and
make it seven homes.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
To sweep an ale West opponent when the division play
is really important, especially with the Angels later. But yeah,
I mean the Rangers, you know, they're they're in good position.
And for those who didn't watch the show last night,
we kind of talked about the team is celebrating wins

(12:49):
and not focusing on individual success or failures because there
are pivotal guys for the Rangers lineup that aren't doing
a ton like White Langford hit was in his last
fifteen at bats, but then again, Kyle Hagashioka over his
last ten games, he's hitting three eighty nine, three home
runs and nine RBI. So you know, it's it's a

(13:11):
checks and balance a little bit, but the Rangers are
finding a way to getting it done. Also, the one
n one run win ball games, the Rangers are kind
of starting to to secure them.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Yeah, they were so good at those at the beginning
of the year, and then they went into a real
tail spin and now to Abby's point, they're coming back
and improving that. But again, I think the fact that
they've had so many is a great sign or you know,
it's just it's almost lucky, right, because if they're in more,
they're more prepared for them because of their experience with them.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
Yeah, yeah, Misty is she says, being twenty one and
fifteen since June six is nice, but it's just half
a game better than the Mariners. So she's really focused.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
And actually, yeah, he loves Misty, but yeah, yeah, it's
all good. Yeah, But anyway, but the point, it's a
great point. That means three teams in the American League
West have been playing well obviously since that time, and
and one of them, one of them is not the Astros,
which is why teams are making up ground on the Astros.

(14:15):
They did get a victory last night to avoid the
sweep at the hands of the Mariners, but there's no
doubt that, you know, the other three teams just below
them are right now playing pretty well. So we continue
to talk about the American League West a little bit,
and we continue to talk about this Rangers home stand

(14:35):
as we go on. We also want to go back
in time just a little bit and talk about one
of the cool stories of this weekend. It's all coming up.
It's the d LS Rangers podcast. Oh yeah, it's my
Shady Ray time. This is the other pair, you know,
I had the I had the new aviators on this weekend.

(14:57):
But this is the other pair, and they're the ogs
as I like to say, almost really almost indestructible. I
actually it was the aviators I dropped out by the
pool and we've got that pebbled stuff that's you know,
on the pool. And last time I dropped a pair
of really expensive ones on that scratch right across the lens,

(15:21):
not the not the Shady Rays no scratch. And the
cool thing is if I had scratched them, it wouldn't
mattered because they would have either fixed or replaced them.
For me, one of the greatest things about Shady Rays
is you just don't have to, you know, worry that
you've that you've ruined your expensive sunglasses even though they're
not really that expensive, and you can make them even cheaper.

(15:43):
Use the code d l l S at shady rays
dot com and you get thirty five percent off.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
While you're at it. With the money that you save,
I bet that Clarence Hill could benefit from a rugged
road cooler out in Oxnard.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
You know why, no, no question.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Long days at the field you're gonna need snacks, Pop
Pop's gonna need drinks. Pop Pop's gonna need a whole
shebang of things, and you can carry it all with
a rugged road. It is floatable if you're interested in
taking it out on the lake. It is lightweight, durable
and dependable, also versatile. You can use it for tons

(16:18):
of outdoor activities fishing, tubing, camping, tailgating, even when jeffs
taking his kids to the ballpark, civic Center, all the things.
Grab a rugged road cooler because it is the best
in the game. Gear up with your next adventure with
rugged road coolers. They are reliable, durable, and built to
be used. Rugged road is your ultimate outdoor companion. Head

(16:41):
to Rugged Road outdoors dot com and use the code
DLLs and personal.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
Yeah, and those training camp days as you mentioned earlng
I covered about fifteen of them in the nineties and
early two thousands for the Cowboys, And plus, you have
a lot of walking to do. Two huge fields. You
gotta go from one end to the others, so make
sure you hydrate even if you go out. There's not
that hot in Oxnard, obviously, but you still need to hydrate.

(17:08):
So take your Rugged drove about hydrating. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
all kinds. I'm not worried about him hydrating at night.
I'm a little worried about him hydrating during the day
as he goes to club A Pop Pop there, out
and out in the probably goes to Ventura. That's where
you hang out when you're an anyway. So yeah, the

(17:29):
team right now is in a position where they know
they need to go on a run, right And the
challenge is to not think about going on a run,
because you go on runs by winning, you know, a
game and then a series, and then a game and
then a series. And I love the fact and and look,

(17:53):
I wish I could be somebody just Blake just said,
you know, he believes that they have a fifteen and
five run in them during a twenty game stretch. It's
exceedingly possible. I mean, let's remember this team started the
season eight and two and they weren't hitting. Then that's
that's really not that far from a fifteen to five

(18:16):
type thing. But I wish I could feel more confident
about that. This team hasn't let me yet feel that
confident about that. This team definitely has that in it.
They just they just I'm worried about again the collective
confidence of this team, and I think we need to

(18:39):
start seeing it back, you know, beginning tonight, and to
your point, get some confidence built against the A's, get
some confidence going against the Braves, get some confidence or
continue more confidence against the Angels who they split with
out there. I mean, and that was after losing two
of three to San Diego. A split didn't feel that great,

(19:01):
but ultimately since they took two of three from the Astros,
a five and five road trip did feel pretty good.
But this confidence, this offensive confidence, needs to be there
with this team, I believe. And you've taught. You talked
to Brett Boone over the court. I mean, you talk
to Aaron Boone too at the All Star Game. But

(19:21):
I believe that Brett Boone's message is taking hold. And
we see Jack Peterson out there wearing the Boonie Podcast
T shirt and stuff like.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
That Brett left.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Yeah, so they're buying in. I think they're buying into
Brett Boone's message. And look, it's an old school message
that I love. That's you know, been preached to me
as I sat watching hundreds of games with Mark maclamore
over the years you know, you have to be selfless

(19:54):
in this game if you want to have team offensive success.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
I love Misty's point, too bad that we don't seem
to do well against teams with a losing record. That
is a point to be made, you know, because, like
we just said, the Rangers have you know, below five
hundred teams coming into play. I think the thing that
maybe fans don't realize about players is that the Rangers
don't have, you know, a whiteboard in the clubhouse checking

(20:26):
off consecutive wins. Baseball players aren't ones to look at streaks.
I mean they don't. Actually, they don't like to be
told they're streaking because then it's a mental thing and
you think about it and it's the elephant in the room,
you know. So I think that they're focused on today
what they can do in this at bat. And I
think that's where Brett Boone has really stepped in and

(20:48):
shown the guys it's just this moment. I mean, he
loves watching the games, and it sounds like a silly
concept to watch the game that you're playing in. But
with all of the technology and the iPads and you know,
the scouting reports, it's easy to get caught up in
the numbers. Brett Boone is just taking it back to
an old school approach of Hey, we're in this game,
take a look at your outing, take a look at

(21:09):
the swing, make the adjustment that you need to, but
then get your head back in the ball game and
focus on this. And so yeah, I think you're seeing
that right now. Corey Seeger. We talked to him when
the Rangers won two in a row against Freut and
you know, he said, we said, do you feel a
streak coming? He's like, well, gosh, Like if you could
tell the future, you would love to, but we're focused

(21:29):
on today and then tomorrow. So it's just it's small
things and it's I think the biggest improvement is what
we've seen from the Detroit Tigers series, because, to be honest,
I think in the first half those are games that
the that the Rangers would have lost had they been
playing in that way. So they're doing the little things right.
I think the biggest thing to stress is that the

(21:51):
plate discipline, the equality of the app bats, those have
just been completely different. We saw that with jonah Heims
at bat last night against Trek's Google. I think that's
to be the biggest telltale sign of this Rangers club.
How are they going to be with one run ball games?
Are they going to win those or lose those? Because
Bruce Bochie says, that's what makes the team a team.
And then with these at bats, are they going to

(22:13):
put together thoughtful at bats, put the ball into play,
do the small things all?

Speaker 2 (22:18):
Yeah, they got to see pitches and as we say,
Jonah did a great job of that last night and
got basically got school out of the game at least
one hitter before he wanted to leave. He wanted to
finish that seventh inning, and he and they could. He couldn't.
He was already at one hundred and five, one hundred
and six pitches and Missy brings up for Leon brings

(22:38):
up the two and five record against the Athletics, the
oer and three against the Royals. Yeah, I mean, these
are not things you're proud of. And the reality is,
thankfully the they've finished the season series with the White Sox.
But remember they were on the verge of being swept
by the White Sox. Talk about that earlier this year, right,
So they did get back and took care of the

(23:00):
White Sox when they were here but the reality is,
you know, you can't get swept by the White Sox.
They don't have anybody that approaches Trek's google, right, you
can't be tipping your hat to their pitchers every night.
The lefty thing is a thing, it really is. The
Rangers will face two for sure EBD for the middle
game of the series against the against the Athletics, but

(23:22):
they're gonna face Lopez tonight, and they're gonna face JP
Sears on Wednesday on Getaway Day, which is a night
game by the way. And anyway, that's a that's a
concern with this team right now and hopefully one that
you know that can be dealt. They need to hit
lefties as well as they do righting.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
That needs to be figured out, you know, yeah, point blank.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Look, it seems like that's been a life long Ranger Yeah,
it does. I mean, it's unbelievable how long it seems
like that the Rangers have had trouble with left handed pitchers.
So they'll see two in this series. And look, they've
been built, uh to try and address that situation. That

(24:10):
and the fastballs and so the pieces are there. They
just have to make it work. They may have to
make it happen, and that starts obviously tonight when they
when they face off against the Athletics. Let's go back
to the weekend though, and and just talk about we met.
We wanted to get to this last night, but the
postgame information I got the best, got the best of us.

(24:33):
But yeah, this Cody Freeman deal is so much fun. ABS.
As you know, he was in Vegas with the team
with the Triple A team as they were getting ready
for a series out there, and yeah, it all started
in Vegas.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
He woke up. We asked, we havesked some clarify because
he said, you know, it was the morning, and I
was at the blackjack table. And we're like, well, clarify morning.
That could be one in the morning, or that could
be seven in the morning. He said seven in the morning. Yeah,
We're like, oh, wow, you were spending your early morning
at the blackjack table.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
We're sure he wasn't up all night.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
I don't think so. I think he'd just woken up. Yeah,
he and his dad were there, and then his mom
was at the slot machines and he started. He walked
in there as a minor league baseball player, walked out
as a major league baseball player. We got the opportunity
to talk to him. So here from Cody Freman.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Yeah, no, I don't know that we have that cat. No,
it might be in there.

Speaker 4 (25:30):
Teated up thirty seconds high, beautiful girl. All right, Well,
let's talk about Cody Freeman because he's a third baseman.
It listed as a third baseman, but he can play
anywhere in the infield. He also can provide the catcher
position if needed.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Yeah, he played one hundred and thirty eight games at
catcher in the minor leagues, and Bruce Pochie was quick
to point out he can play the outfield. So this
is a very versatile guy. This is Swiss Army Knife.
This is a Josh Smith. And it'll be interesting to
see if if Cody stays up, if he becomes a
third catch because right now it's still listed as a
big heel ran. But very interesting. But yeah, So Cody Freeman,

(26:07):
his story is is just great. He's playing blackjack. He's
got seven hundred bucks on the table and he gets
the call and he gives it seven hundred chips to
his dad, and then he came to Arlington and talked
to Abby.

Speaker 4 (26:20):
Abby Jones of Alsity Network.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
Here with Rangers' newest in fielder, Cody Freeman.

Speaker 4 (26:25):
Cody, Welcome to the big league.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 6 (26:27):
It's it's a blessing.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
Tell you that I thought you're talking to Bruce Bochie
a little bit earlier Sunday Night baseball. You're facing one
of the best pictures in baseball, Tarik School Bowl. Did
we offer any advice on this and we'll be debut.

Speaker 6 (26:38):
Yeah. He came out to me instantly asked like, well,
my brother, like if we talked, you know, on his
advice too, And I said, yeah, and kind of advice
I'm getting. It is just like soaking the moment. You know,
you only get one debut and don't like the moment,
like you know, there's too many thoughts just take over
your your one debute. So it's just you know, just breathing,
have fun. Remember that's a child's game.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
And my best You mentioned that your brother's in v
debut Tyler Freeman, that you were more excited for him.
Were the roles kind of reversed this time?

Speaker 6 (27:05):
Yeah? Oh yeah, it was the same way. He was
just as excited as I am, and then I was
just excited as he was. That's just our brother we
rob we have grown up being competitive and both of
our both of each other's dreams. So it's it's finally
that's happening.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
How many people do you have here to watch with
the night?

Speaker 6 (27:20):
Bool? Oh, I got about ten ten to night. There's
a little bit more yesterday, but we got ten and nine.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
I want to talk about minor leagues. You're a contact
approach hitter. I mean you have two thousand and one
hundred and fifty minor league played appearances and a fifteen
percent strikeout rate, crazy discipline.

Speaker 4 (27:37):
Talk to me about this approach.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
How did you learn that?

Speaker 4 (27:39):
Is it something that you and your brother worked on
when you were young.

Speaker 6 (27:42):
I think it's just like a more of a mindset thing,
you know, like you step in that box, you uh,
you don't like that picture. You know, you know you're
not going to beat us. And that's just the mindset
we have froming to go down and put in play.
That's my that's my mentality, and it's just I guess
it's just something you grew up with that mentality, and
I think it's more of a mental things and physical
But I mean, I could be wrong, but that's just

(28:03):
the way I think when I set up to the players.
I'm not going to let this picture string.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
How yesterday, I think when we talked to you, you mentioned
Errek Spoogle and you didn't seem intimidated.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
You've said I'm ready to go.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
So talk to me about your approach of facing a
former cy young winner.

Speaker 6 (28:16):
Yeah. No, it's just I mean, this is the highest
level you can play. I mean I'm gonna face guys
like this pretty much almost every night. But I like that. Yeah,
credit to him and his career that he's had, and
it's incredible.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
He's a great picture.

Speaker 6 (28:27):
But come six ten, it's it's game off. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Can you have imagine your MLB debut being this kind
of story with this line up Sunday and Night Baseball, I.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
Mean, the stage could not be bigger. Is it better
than you dreamed?

Speaker 5 (28:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (28:42):
I don't think. Uh, I don't think I thought of
that sattle, you know, just yack you said it's it
can't get bigger than this, and I'm just I'm super excited.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
You're listed as a third baseman. Talk to me about infield.
I know that you mentioned outfit a little bit. What
potion do you feel most comfortable at?

Speaker 6 (28:57):
Honestly, does to me, it doesn't matter anywhere in field. Yeah,
I'll field. I actually feel really comfortable out there, and
if I get the chance to play out there, I
get my.

Speaker 5 (29:05):
Own and that's all I could do my three hundred
batting average. Talk to me about your approach, how what
do you think the transition is going to be like
from the minors to the majors.

Speaker 6 (29:13):
All my day, it's just part of the process, you know,
Like that's why there's minor leagues and you know, each
each level you develop and that's part of the development.
And we have such a great development coaching staff from
this organization and they've helped me to maintain and do
do different things, try new things, and you know, just
be myself and each and every year it's just it's

(29:33):
part of the developent process. And finally made it here
and just you know, this is this is it. I
can't say how it is because I haven't played yet,
but I'm excited.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
Twenty nineteen, you were drafted by the Rangers. That's a
stacked draft class. You know, what was it like working
with those guys that are in the major leagues?

Speaker 4 (29:49):
You know in that time, anything that they.

Speaker 6 (29:51):
Taught you, oh, just you know, because they're all all
the college guys you know, Josh Davis, Wornzel, Alen Strom,
Justice Slay. These are college guys that wouldn't be for me,
one right after me, and uh, there's just more about
experience and like how is in college and they're telling me, like,
you know, what they've learned from college, what they learned
from college, and like what I can take away from
that kind of stuff. Yeah, just growing, like going through

(30:14):
the system with a lot of guys that went to college.
It's pretty cool because I you know, each college is
different and then each high school is different. So you know,
I just got to pick each other's brains and try
to get try to get each other better.

Speaker 5 (30:24):
What kind of player are the Texas Strangers going to
get out of you? What do you want fans to
know about you?

Speaker 6 (30:29):
I'm always smiling. I'm having fun.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
I noticed.

Speaker 6 (30:31):
Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm having fun and I'm gonna
give it mile every single night. And uh, I'm not
going to take one pitch off and I promise you
guys that. And I'm just excited to be here. Thank you.

Speaker 4 (30:42):
He really is always smiling. Yes, I haven't I haven't
seen somebody that excited about an MLB debut in a while,
and just we were kind of talking about it earlier
the minor league guys like man, they're just they're so excited.
Oh yes, thank you, yes, thank you so much. It's
blessed to be here, Like it's there's nothing better to
me than those kind of reactions.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
Yeah, it's great, and he's still looking for that first
MLB hit. But he scored a run. He scored a
winning run in his debut when he came in as
a pinch runner in the eighth inning, and he was
at the plate when the Rangers tied the game last night.
ABS was calling for it. ABS was calling for like
a hit where he might just get his first hit,

(31:23):
his first two RBIs. It would have been and the
Rangers would have won the game. But as it was,
he was at the plate when the wild pitch was
uncorked and that tied the game at one to one.
So great start to the career of Cody Freeman. And
we appreciate you grabbing that, Abs. That was great to have.
And we've got more coming up. Let's get to this
whole business about the trade deadline. There's lots of stuff

(31:46):
going on. We're just a couple of weeks away from
that deadline. Things could happen even before the deadline. We
talk about all of it and some candidates. Next on
the DLLs Rangers podcast.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
Guess what time it is?

Speaker 5 (32:02):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (32:03):
Game Time?

Speaker 4 (32:03):
Game Time. If you have last minute plans, game Time
is your place to go because they have ticket options
whenever you need them. If you want to be proactive,
you can. I'm not the most but some people are.
If you want to be proactive, you can log onto
their site and plan your day days in advance. But
if you're anything like me, you wait until the last

(32:25):
minute and you need to see at an affordable price.
Game Time has the best offers on the market. And
I've used other outlets you know for these tickets and
the price isn't bad until you check out, and then
it's like three hundred dollars of things that I didn't
know was you know, going to be on the on

(32:45):
the bill. So Game Time there's no secrets there. You
can actually check out where you're gonna sit before you
buy the tickets, so you know it is a good ticket.
So go to game Time. Take the guests work out
of buying tickets. Download the app, create an account, and
use the code DLS for twenty dollars off on your
first purchase. Terms apply.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Yeah, look, the Cowboys are at training camp right now,
which really means Cowboys season has begun, doesn't it. And
that means you got to start planning. Like ABS is
talking about. You need to go get yourself a ticket.
Go to True Fan Travel and get a ticket to
be on this trip with us. When the when the

(33:25):
Cowboys Monday Night Football go to Las Vegas for a
Monday night football game. I heard guys in a couple
of the local radio stations saying they're making that trip
out there too. This is a big one everybody from
It's like going to be one full American Airlians flight
or something out there to get everybody from Texas out
to Las Vegas for that game. So we've got you

(33:46):
covered with True True Fan Travel. You go out there,
you hang out with our guys over the course of
the week. It's an all inclusive trip where we take
care of the ticket for the game, we take care
of the plane, we take care of the hotel, and
you pay one payment to True Fan Travel and you
get to go with us to watch the Cowboys against
the Raiders. In November. Okay, so ABS, it's it's coming

(34:11):
up on the trade deadline. And we mentioned this last
night on the show, but let's let's say it again.
You know everybody's going to say, well, the number one
trade target is Eugenios Suarez and the Rangers need a bat. Yes,
they can't afford him. I mean, they can't afford the prospects, right,
they can't afford the prospects. They can't afford within their

(34:33):
salary structure, they can't afford him. Yeah, so he's not
an option right and right now, as with Chris Young
as the president of Baseball Operations, ABS, they're looking at pitching.
They need and have needed a closer from the beginning
of the season. We know Jeff and I have mentioned
it on the show. We know the Rangers were definitely

(34:55):
trying to get Kirby Yates back this year after the
great job he did last year. He decided to sign
with the Dodgers. And like, I mean, the Dodgers have
been fine, they've been okay, but they've been struggling lately.
And anyway, he hasn't done and he hasn't even approached
what he did with the Rangers last year. So anyway

(35:17):
they were trying. They've known, they still know just like
you do, just like we do. It would be really
nice to get a closer with more experience. So there
are some out there. There's quite a few available always,
but especially now at the trade deadline abs and so
they've got to go out there. And and when somebody

(35:39):
at the very beginning asked, who's calling the Rangers? And
and you know, what are they what are they offering
and what are they asking. Look, let's not discount the
fact that the Rangers are calling people because they know
what they need and they know what they want and
Chris Young always wants pitching.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Right And you know, at this point in the season,
I mean, these free agents are not These players are
going to go to the contenders because especially in the bullpen,
you need those arms for a postseason. Can never have
too many arms. So the Rangers want to contend.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
Oh yeah, they need some arms and they intend to contend.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
Let's start with Felix Bautista, right hand, a pitcher for
the Orioles two six era. He had Tommy John in
twenty twenty three, recovered in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Yes like that, and he's been great this year. He's
been really, really good. He's got eighteen saves and what's
the current era, six's six? Yeah, eighteen saves in a
two six era. I'm very happy with that. He's rebounded
beautifully from that Tommy John surgery. And remember, as we've
seen with Jacob Jacob de Gram, you have that year

(36:45):
off after the surgery and then as you go, you
get stronger, you get better, and that's what we're seeing
from de Gram. I'm sure that's what they could see
from Bautista. The thing you like best about Bautista too,
is the fact that he has basically five hundred thousand
dollars remaining on his contract at the time of the

(37:05):
trade deadline. That completely fits within the Rangers budgetary concerns
and efforts to keep their salary under that luxury tax threshold.
So that would be fantastic. He would be now here's
the part right, now, here's the butt. But got two

(37:27):
years of control left, So what does that mean? That's fantastic.
Everybody wants a guy with two years of control. You
kidding me? We could get this guy and have two
years of control and you know, yeah, No, the problem
with that is that drives up the price in prospects, right,
so there becomes the concern, can you and yeah, X

(37:49):
would turn Busies Day into a monster, no doubt about it.
But the problem is the prospect price yere you go.

Speaker 4 (37:59):
Something to note. Let's talk about David Bedner for right
handed pitcher for the Pirates, one of the best relief
pictures available. Two four ERA on the season right now.
He actually had a pretty horrible twenty twenty four. He
had a five plus ERA, he was demoted to triple
A and since then things have really turned around. So

(38:19):
the Dodgers and the Yankees interested in him. Dodgers are
looking for that high end bullpen arm. He's probably their
number one target to be.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
Yeah, and look, the reality is that the Rangers have
been interested in Bednar for a long time, even through
the struggles of twenty twenty three or twenty twenty four.
They were kind of kicking the tires on him during
the off season and maybe making, you know, looking into
making a trade for him. He's only got two million
left on his contract at the trade deadline, and that's

(38:49):
really good because the Rangers either have that I mean,
with some of the money they saved on Dane Dunning,
they got some money back, and a few other places
they've squirreled it away. And it's always really difficult to
tell exactly where the Rangers are relative to that two
hundred forty one million dollar luxury tax threshold, but I
believe they're within that two million dollar range under it.

(39:12):
So he'd be greaty. He's thirteen, He's thirteen for thirteen
and save opportunities this year. He will be arbitration eligible
in twenty twenty six. But to your point, if the
Dodgers and Yankees are in on him, that drives up
the price too. So now do you have do you
have the the you know, the equity in prospects to

(39:35):
be able to compete with those two clubs? The Dodgers amazingly,
for everything they have and everything they've spent, they still have.
You know, I don't know if it's exactly one right now,
but it's going to be one of the top three
arm systems in all of baseball.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
Amazing It's unfair. Yeah, all right, this next one for
a fun storyline, I guess, Manuel Classe. I mean, what
else to say about the right hand closer for the Guardians.
Three time All Star, two time Mariano rivera relief Reliever
of the Year, a one eight career eer A. My

(40:10):
favorite stat of his for twenty twenty five forty four
innings pitch forty four. My favorite you know what you're
gonna get from class.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
My most heartbreaking stat of his is that he was
a former Ranger and they traded him for Corey Klueber,
which at the time seemed like a really good trade,
and it was so horrible. And that's what happens with trades.
Emmanuel Classe is not coming here. There are reports all
over the place and they're apparently the Guardians are interested,

(40:40):
but they want huge prospects back for him, right, So
I really believe if you want to get in the
conversation with him the Guardians about Emmanuel Classe, you got
to have Walcott on the list, and we're not trading
Sebastian Walcott for Emmanuel class A. And you know, I

(41:02):
know we see it in chats and on the social
media all the time. People are gonna say, well, you
know what if you gave him Tyler Malley and John
Gray too, They don't. They don't want That's not no
that they aren't stupid, right, They they want they want
one of the best prospects out there. That's how they
got him, right, Oh, we've got Klueber. We've got this

(41:24):
big equity piece who's the best. And they scouted well.
And you know, because Class hadn't really established himself as
that yet with the Rangers, they knew who he was.
They got him good for them. I think he could
get traded, but I don't think he gets traded them.

Speaker 5 (41:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (41:40):
Uh. And you know, he has a little bit of class,
has a little bit of shoulders comfort from like a
heavy workload. But yeah, he's not like yeah, all right,
Pete Fairbanks, right handed pitcher from the raising weapons, swing
and miss stuff.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
Yeah yeah. And the Reality Tigers what our interest.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Larings? Okay, you know their bullpens.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
Yeah, yeah, I like best. I think vest Man vest
came in and looked pretty good last night. I'll say
this though, Fairbanks remember another former Ranger the Rangers traded he.
First of all, he was the shining star of the
twenty fifteen draft, right, that's the draft where they got

(42:23):
Dylan Tate in the first round with the fourth overall pick,
and then none of the early round picks hit and
then Pete Fairbanks ninth round pick hit and he pitched
I don't know, ten games, fifteen games for the Rangers
in twenty nineteen, and then the Rangers traded him for
Nick Solak and anyway, that's another one of those things.

(42:46):
That's what happens with trades and anyway. But Pete Fairbanks,
you know, right now, I think there's I think he's
got like six he'd have six million left on his
contract at the at the end of or at the
trade deadline, which is a lot. He's a big strikeout
guy though, and he is, you know, the best of

(43:07):
the of the candidates out there. He's really the best
velocity guy. Yeah, nine and a half to it too. Yeah, yeah,
So I'd love Fairbanks. But that's that's an plus. By
the way, Tampa Bay is ahead of the Rangers, just
ahead of him, but ahead of the Rangers in the
wild card standing. So are we sure they're going to

(43:31):
sell him. I don't know that we're sure of that
at all. We throw the name out there, like, go
get fair Banks. Well, you got to have two willing
participants in order to make a trade.

Speaker 4 (43:40):
Oh you do. Let's move on to Kyle Finn again,
right handed pitcher for the Nationals. My Dad mentioned him
as a sneaky sleeper ahead of the season starting back
in December or to e ra A. This is the
first time in his career that he has had an
e r A over for He has nineteen saves though,

(44:01):
and he was an All Star in twenty twenty four
for the first time. He doesn't strike a lot of
guys out, but he also doesn't walk too many.

Speaker 2 (44:08):
Yeah, ninety six mile an hour fastball, so that's pretty good.
But that strikeout rate thing is big. I think for
the Rangers, they need a guy. We've said it so
many times with the bullpen they have and as well
as it's done, nobody is that big k guy and
they need that guy to come in and overpower hitters
and you know sort of put yeah, put the fear

(44:30):
of guy. Well yeah, yeah, maybe earlier in his career,
but you need a guy that's going to come in
put the fear of God in him. And plus Finnigan's
got i think five or six million left on his
deal at the end of or at the time of
the trade deadline, he would be a classic rental probably
not a guy you're going to re sign. So these
are all things that back I mean you could resign him,

(44:54):
but who knows, depends what he did here, But all
these things factor into this decision making press I'd put
him fairly I'd handicap him fairly low based on that.

Speaker 4 (45:05):
What about the ten eleven year veteran Russell Iglesias pitcher
for the Braves, proven veteran postseason experience, It's twenty twenty
five numbers a bit disappointing to his standard for three ERA,
but you know, most obvious trade candidate on the Braves roster.

Speaker 2 (45:24):
Yeah, and we're going to see him this weekend, and
I think that you know, he's got a good strikeout rate,
and it's not quite as good as like a Fairbanks,
but he's got a good strike out rate. He's got
about five and a half million left at the deadline,
and I do think that is something that the Rangers
could probably massage and move money around and get that

(45:46):
with still stay under the luxury tax threshold. He's another
one though that's simply a rental and so they've got
to deal with that. But you know, he's definitely definitely
a candidate. He'd be an upgrade. Again, are the Braves
trading him? I mean they're underachieving, so they may be interested,
but yeah are they Okay? Well, wow, we got one

(46:08):
more to talk about when we come back. We got
to talk about Duran and Joan Duran, and then we
also get to our cleanup segment. That's all coming next.
It's the DLS Rangers podcast.

Speaker 1 (46:21):
Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile.

Speaker 5 (46:23):
Now.

Speaker 1 (46:23):
I was looking for fun ways to tell you that
Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for fifteen dollars a
month is back. So I thought it would be fun
if we made fifteen dollars bills. But it turns out
that's very illegal. So there goes my big idea for
the commercial. Give it a try at mintmobile dot com.

Speaker 4 (49:03):
Fan of him, right, I had a pitcher for the Twins. Yeah,
one six era. Dodgers yet again interested in him. That's
because they spent so much money on Tanner Scott and
then he has a four era and a few blown saves.
So the Dodgers really looking.

Speaker 2 (49:17):
Kirby Yates exactly. Mean they got themselves two closers in
the offseason.

Speaker 4 (49:22):
I wasn't going to say him first, it's going to give.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
It, but anyway, so yeah, I love this kid, Duran.
He's only allowed three runs in his first twenty nine
outings of the season. Uh, and he's out there pitching
lights out. And so the Twins are not in a
must trade situation with Duran. And he is under club
control for two more under club control until twenty twenty seven, which,

(49:47):
as we mentioned earlier in that discussion in the last segment, Ah, yeah,
that drives up the price a little bit. So, uh,
there's a chance that Minnesota is going to really get
into We've I've seen them do it before, get into
restocking their whole farm system by trading the likes of Duran.
So we'll we'll keep an eye on him. But he's

(50:09):
a guy who might be flying a little bit under
the radar right now as far as those guys that
are available as a closer for the Rangers, and they
really need one.

Speaker 4 (50:19):
So the Rangers get any of these guys, all of
you can say, hey, I heard about that, I heard
about this first. Yeah, maybe got the lowdown.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
No doubt. And by the way, if you know, if
they're going to go after a bat, right, It's not
going to be Eugenio Suarez. It would be more like
a Ramon Lreano of the Orioles, Right, who you know is?
I mean? I actually I thought he was destined for
greatness when he first got with the Athletics when they

(50:50):
were still in Oakland. And and he's he's kind of
fizzled a little bit. But I think there's a lot
of talent in that guy. And I think, you know,
and I think you could probably get him. Uh, he
only's I think he's only owed a couple of million
dollars as opposed to Asuarez, who's not only owed more,
but it's going to cost a lot more.

Speaker 4 (51:09):
Yeah, I mean he's going to be.

Speaker 2 (51:11):
And Loriano with the Orioles were almost certain they are
in cell sell sell mode.

Speaker 4 (51:17):
So mister Crazy said it best. See wise comments make
me think he's just going to add bullpen help and
pray that the current roster turns things around completely. Ye
that at once, I'll say it again. His favorite comment
is the best thing you can do is internally improve.
So you know, but it's true. When the Rangers won
the World Series, our starting lineup had career years. Nolas Garcia,

(51:39):
you got the best out of Himheim, you got the
best out of him. Even the ninth hole hitter Loodi,
ta Veriszkieldran, those guys stepped up. So yeah, I mean
the goal is that who you currently are paying plays
the best to the their ability. And you know, see
why knows that this formula works, worked before.

Speaker 2 (52:00):
That works yep, uh, and counting on it working again. Uh.
And there are some new faces and some new players,
some of whom are coming back sooner rather than later. Finally,
Jock Peterson among them, Jake Berger among them, John Gray
among them. We could see John Gray, you know, back
as soon as Wednesday, so we will obviously keep you

(52:21):
updated on all of that. It's our batting cleanup segment
time now, though, as we get to the story of
I don't know if you've heard of this guy each
eu Ro pretty good. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (52:32):
I think there might be some celebration for him this
upcoming weekend as well.

Speaker 2 (52:36):
Yeah, yeah, in the Hall of Fame. Yeah, so, let
us did I type this wrong? Cat? Let's go to
the the comps. This isn't each Ero that I put
it in the in the chat as wrong. I mean
in the Tani well, yeah, I put it in the chat.

Speaker 4 (52:56):
Mean, are we just looking at greatness?

Speaker 2 (52:57):
Yeah? Can we look at the Otani comps please? This
is insane.

Speaker 4 (53:03):
Babe Ruth, Ben Griffy, Nolan, Ryan Clayton, Grushaw. What does
show Hae have in common with all these guys that's insane.

Speaker 2 (53:11):
Well, in the reality, as we've said for years, we've
seen you know, he's seven years, eight years in the
league now Tani, and we've said for all those years,
we're looking at Babe Ruth because he pitches andy hits,
which you know, Babe Ruth is one of the very
few comps that was successful at both although Babe Ruth
was nowhere near the pitcher that Shoe Hee Otani has been.

(53:33):
But the reality is we're looking at Babe Ruth, Nolan,
Ryan Clayton Kershaw, and Ken Griffy Junior. I mean, this
guy is all in one.

Speaker 4 (53:40):
It's that's actually disgusting, stunning.

Speaker 2 (53:43):
He's got more strikeouts after ninety one starts than show Hey.
He's got I mean than Nolan, he's got a better
era than Clayton Kershaw, who's just you know, going to
retire and go five years later, right into the Hall
of Fame. Obviously more RBI than Ken Griffy Junior, a
Hall of Famer, and seventeen more home runs through his

(54:07):
first less than a thousand games than Babe. It's unbelievable.
It's like, this.

Speaker 4 (54:13):
Is I'm like, actually speechless.

Speaker 2 (54:15):
This is the guy that you need to watch, Like
any if you're in a town where he's playing, go.

Speaker 4 (54:23):
Have a countdown. You can't miss it. Really, they have
the whole countdown on a bat.

Speaker 2 (54:31):
I mean, oh there, yeah.

Speaker 4 (54:33):
On TV. You can't miss it, you know. It's it's
just like, Also, he's like a nice guy.

Speaker 2 (54:39):
Yeah, he seems like it. I saw him.

Speaker 4 (54:40):
Teammates love him.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
Yeah. Just see that thing on Twitter the other day somebody,
I think it was this weekend, somebody hit a home
run and he's just sitting there waiting for them to
give him his high five. He's just waiting, wait, waiting patiently. Finally, Oh, thank.

Speaker 4 (54:54):
You, one of one.

Speaker 2 (54:56):
Yeah, he's really cool, dude. Uh So Lance bragg U
Alex Alex Bregman is Alance Bergman, Alex Bregman. Alex Bregman
back into the lineup for the Red Sox as that's
about six weeks early he had the quad injury and
he feels good. So they're going to take it easy

(55:17):
with Bregman right now. But you know, the Red Sox,
they went on a little heater of their own and
they got right back into the race. Now that the
Blue Jays are on the heater right now, but the
Red Sox feel like they can be a player in
the playoffs, maybe even in the division race. So they're
going to be really careful with Bregman. But there's but

(55:38):
the fact that he's back six weeks early, I think
probably you know, fortifies them and makes everybody feel better
and and you know, gives them that that boost of confidence.

Speaker 4 (55:48):
Yeah, he didn't start Sunday, he pinched hit three run
home run in the eighth and he's slugging five forty
seven this season, fifth best in the American League.

Speaker 2 (56:01):
That's amazing. Yeah, that's a good slug rate. Yeah, but again,
we knew that would happen. That short that short porch.
That green monster is Taylor made for him. He's either
going to hit it out or he's going to hit
a double. Almost every time it was the it's the
perfect pairing and it's a little surprising. Let's see on
the four year one hundred and twenty five millionaires at

(56:22):
three year one hundred and I think it's three years,
one hundred and twenty five million, whatever it is. Uh,
I can't believe. He just didn't want to sign a
longer deal three for one to twenty something, which.

Speaker 4 (56:32):
Is interesting because when he was in talks with the Astros,
I mean, he was like, I don't want it if
it's not the max number.

Speaker 2 (56:38):
Five or six years. Yeah, like, and they don't.

Speaker 4 (56:40):
Do shows, are notorious for not handing that out.

Speaker 2 (56:43):
They just don't. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (56:44):
I think the fact that he took three years actually
quite funny.

Speaker 2 (56:47):
Yeah, it probably really offended them. But the money annual
average value whatever they call that AAV. He was a yeah,
it's a forty and he was he was obviously, you know,
only at twenty eight with that Astros offer. So okay,
So good for him, and more of that coming up.
How about the Brewers. We talked about them last night

(57:09):
on the show. They've won ten games in a row,
but this team has just been you know, like out
of nowhere. Even manager came out and said, you know what,
we're just a bunch of average jos nobody's heard of us.
Nobody knows us and.

Speaker 4 (57:26):
Hairway have that like underdog look and feel.

Speaker 2 (57:30):
There's just no question. There's just no question that they do.
And again they are average jos. They sweep the Dodgers
for that tenth straight win. They get to the top
spot in the National League Central, tied for it with
the Cubs, who have been playing so well. And for
just a minute yesterday because the Tigers played at night,
the Cubs, the Brewers, and the Tigers were all tied

(57:53):
at fifty nine wins for the best in baseball. Tigers
got that win last night against our Rangers and so
they're up to sixty. But really just an amazing thing
when you see the names of the guys that are
that are you know, doing getting this done for you know,
Pat Murphy's team there in Milwaukee. So very fun, very

(58:17):
fun story and one of those I mean, small market team.
Nobody thought this was going to happen. They're they're so underrated,
they're forgotten, and it just shows if a team plays together,
abs right and has the right attitude and the right
you know, connectivity, anything's possible.

Speaker 4 (58:36):
Yeah, I mean they're looking for one number eleven today
it's so to be the third time in club history
that that would happen. And then if they win today
and Detroit loses, they will share some of the best
record in baseball this late into the year for the
first time since nineteen eighty two. Wow, So this club's
doing something historic. But yeah, I mean even when they

(58:58):
were in the postseason last year, you know everyone checked
them off immediately, right, and you know they put up
a good fight. So yeah, I'm always it's that Morgan
Wallin song like I'm a gambler, I'll take the over
on the underdog.

Speaker 2 (59:12):
Oh I like that.

Speaker 4 (59:13):
Yeah, that's uh, that's kind of how I feel about
the Brewers. I like these gritty teams.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
Yeah, that's true grit. That really is true grit in
this in this Brewers ball club. All Right, so we're
running low. Let's get to we'll get to that tomorrow.
Let's talk about this Dave Parker Hall of Fame speech.
And this one fires me up, and we don't I
really probably don't even have time, but his son is
going to deliver it. The fact that it took the

(59:39):
voters this long to vote Dave Parker into the Hall
of Fame just annoys me so badly because this poor
man deserved it. Years ago he died since he's he
knew he was going in, but he died of parkinsonce
just recently, his son will give the speech that Dave
Parker has had written.

Speaker 4 (59:59):
That's insane.

Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Fifteen years that's gods sucks.

Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
MVP, seven time All Star, hom run derby champ, two
time World Series, three time Gold Club, three times Silver Slugger,
two time Batty Title, All Star, MVP.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Leader of you know that wonderful we Are family team
in Pittsburgh in nineteen seventy nine. I mean, it's just tragic,
just tragic that he didn't get to deliver the speech
that he wrote, you know, according to his son David,
some fifteen years ago.

Speaker 4 (01:00:32):
So yeah, man, that's I can't wait to watch that.

Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
It's going to be a good class, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:38):
Yeah, it really is. Ceci Sabathia happy birthday, yeah, forty
fifth birthday forty five today.

Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
So yeah. Anyway, that's what we'll talk more about the
Hall of Fame coming up, because it is coming up,
and tomorrow we'll talk more about what the Rangers do
in Game one against these Athletics. That's at seven o'clock tonight.
We appreciate you joining us today and thanks for chatting,
hanging out, talking ball with us. We'll do it again
tomorrow one on the DLLs Rangers podcast.

Speaker 6 (01:01:07):
You don't like the.

Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
