Speaker 5 (01:11):
Welcome to the DLLs Rangers Weekly Podcast.

Speaker 6 (01:14):
This is episode number thirty five.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
Today, Texas Rangers right handed pitcher cole Win's gonna join
us kind of the one of the unsung heroes. And
what he's done since he's come back up to the
big leagues. He's really been good.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Jeff awesome. Yeah, it's hard to argue.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
I mean, we're not going to talk about his streak.
That's you know that that's like talking about Jacob de
Grim's perfect game the other day.

Speaker 6 (01:38):
But he's been good.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
No question about it.

Speaker 7 (01:42):
And of course he's one of my favorites because he's
from Colorado and just a good guy, good golfer, and
it looks like he's getting established himself here in this bullpen.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
Hey, he's tell you what he is.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
He's earned his spot, that's what's great, and and it's
hard to let go of it. I mean, look, he's
not on the short list to get you know, moved
around for a roster.

Speaker 6 (02:11):
Right now, he's valuable. He's even coming in in a
few leverage situations.

Speaker 7 (02:15):
Yeah, he has, so uh yeah, we'll uh, we'll see
what's changed for him. He's been on our show multiple
times and oh he's offers us some pretty good insights.
So looking forward to that, you know, while we're while
we're intro introing everything, d LS is having a hell
of a sale right now, thirty six bucks at three
dollars a month all d ls dot com slash join,

(02:40):
get on there, get all of our content, not just
what I write, but what we do for Cowboys, maps
and stares, and you get a free shirt out of
the deal too, So it's it's hard to beat.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
So yeah, we're rolling over there. We keep rolling over the.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
Message, yeah, message Jeff, and I will well, well we'll
hitcher with links whatever to do that to get the
special do that.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
It's it's definitely worth it.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, yeah. So yeah, anyway, back to the Big League Club.

Speaker 7 (03:11):
You kind of mentioned it there at the beginning with
Jacob mcgrom.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Pretty good stuff. The other night. I was sitting there
in Baltimore and I was like, this might be happening.
It didn't.

Speaker 7 (03:22):
It didn't happen, but it was still really really good
and the Rangers won. And you know, that's the that's
kind of the luxury of de grom. You have him
to stop losing streaks, right and you have him to
start winning streaks. And so that was a big game
the other night, to win a four straight road series.
He went out there and just shoved and it was.

(03:43):
It was pretty neat to watch.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
Yeah, I mean unbelievable too. I mean, you know, it's
funny how you know, the heat. Everybody hates the heat,
especially people that watched the games and all of that.
But I tell you what, he changed nothing yet he
was hitting one hundred miles an hour relatively easily, and
I think it had to do with the heat. I mean,
when you get a little hot, you're just a little warmer.

(04:06):
You stay warmer and that arm flows a little fluid er.
But well, he had one hundred miles an hour and
he didn't look like he was changing anything or trying
to throw hard.

Speaker 7 (04:14):
Well, I think his mechanics were in good place, and
that seems to be Those two seem to be correlated.
When when Jacob de gram is growing hard, he feels
good about his mechanics, or he's not thinking about his mechanics.
When he's ninety five, ninety six, ninety seven, something's not

(04:36):
right with his mechanics.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
And you can tell by the location of the pitches too.

Speaker 6 (04:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (04:40):
You know, he's so meticulous with what he does, and
you know makes sense. He's the he is the standard.
You know people talking about well, you know, you got
to reach a certain standard. Jacob de Gram's the standard,
and he's trying to reach his own standard. And it
ain't easy when you're that good. But you know, considering

(05:01):
he's still coming back from Tommy John, you know, this
is his first full season back, so this is like
his rehab year. You know, this is the this is
the all right, there might be some bumps in the
road here, these are the bumps than wholly underwear. He's
gonna be. He's going to be pretty good. These last

(05:22):
two years of his contract in twenty six and twenty.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
Seven been worth every penny I'm telling you. And I
know that sucked what happened in twenty three and twenty four,
basically coming back from all of that, but good lord,
he's been worth every penny. This, this is what you
paid for. He looks healthy. He's just exciting to watch.
He's great. In a good mood when he's healthy, he's

(05:45):
just which he's never in a bad mood, I don't think.
I mean, he's more emotional as far as when he
was hurt, he was just frustrated. He's never been in
a jerk or an asshole or anything like that. He's
always been really nice. But it is fun to see
him healthy and going.

Speaker 7 (06:01):
For sure, you know you you you know you the
Rangers paid good money for for the guy, and but
he he really is just a heck of a heck
of a pitcher. He's he's everything that he the Rangers
said he was when they when they signed him. And

(06:23):
it's it's just h fun, fun to watch, and you
hope that he continues to feel good. And that's the key,
you know. He he hasn't missed a start. You know,
they've they've manipulated the rotation and give him extra days,
but he has made every start. He's almost had one
hundred innings and that's something to watch in the second half.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
But yeah, it's just been really good.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Well, yes, and and and that aside, this team is
is finally look at it's the last few games they've
manufactured runs. It's been fun watch. They're they're doing the look.
They're tweaking this lineup every day, They're moving it around.
Some guys are starting to look like they're coming out.
Josh Young had a good game the other day, multiple hits.

(07:10):
It's just fun. If this, if this offense can break out,
which I equate it to when you're drinking beer. It's
you know that you're drinking a lot of beer, but
you never go take a whiz, and finally you break
that seal and all of a sudden, you're wizzing the
rest of the time. This seal needs to be broken.
And and I don't know that it's broken yet. They've
scored some runs, like the record is unbelievable when they

(07:32):
score at least four runs in a game and all
of that, but they're so it just seems like the
right on the cusp of maybe breaking out. And that
just means, look, there's other There's gonna be guys in
every no matter how hot the Rangers are going, there's
gonna be guys in that lineup that go through a
patch maybe you know, four games in a row where
they don't get a hit. They're, you know, zero for sixteen,

(07:55):
something like that always happens. But those guys in that
lineup know how to do, what to do to move players,
do whatever and do things and it. But right now,
what the biggest problem is is you've had five guys
in the lineup doing that that haven't gotten a hit
in three or four days or whatever, and you just
getting it going. It's fun to see this offense look

(08:16):
like it has a little bit of life in it.

Speaker 7 (08:18):
Yeah, and I you know, I think the win on
Tuesday helped with that helped helped kind of give them
a boost confidence. They hadn't they hadn't come back from
the game they were let me, let me start over.
They were two and twenty nine when trailing after seventy
yep and the you know, they were up four nothing

(08:40):
in the seventh, no hitter for Jake Lasts and then
and then all of a sudden, Chris Martin on characteristically
is up three homers and the Rangers are behind. I mean,
that's a that's a kick in the nuts. And they
were able to respond, and they did it by manufacturing
run a walk by Sam Aggerty, two stolen bases, he

(09:01):
scored on a sacrifice fly by Jonah him and then
the Rangers ended up, you know, winning the game six
to five. Their speed played a big factor. You know,
it doesn't They can't be picky. They can't sit and
wait for their three r on homer, right, they haven't.
They just aren't hitting home runs for whatever reason. But

(09:21):
they can still put the ball in play. They can
still do what the game asked them to do, as
Ron Washington used to say, get a guy from second
to third with a grounder a second, you know, hit
a fly ball that a guy can tag on and
moved it from second to third. Whatever it is, this
team needs to do it.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
They can't. They can't be playing for the beginnings. They'll happen.

Speaker 7 (09:43):
You know, maybe maybe you manufacture a run and lo
and behold you know you have it starts something you
just never know And but hey, well one run inting
is better than a lot of these Zeros and Rangers
have posted. So whatever they need to, they just need

(10:03):
to continue to get on this trend of manufacturing runs.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
And Sam Haggerty has been a big part of that.

Speaker 7 (10:09):
I just wrote a publisher story at oldlis dot com
slash Rangers about him and his contributions and depending on
what happens with Wyat Langford and this left side tightness,
that me need Haggarty. You know, I don't know that
he's an everyday player, Sam Haggerty, but sure I sure
to want to see him more.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
Hey, you know what, he kind of reminds me of
a switch hitting Janakski and what he did for the
team in twenty three in the twenty three season when
when he came in he did good things and you
and you could use him, and he when he needed
to start, he started. But his job was his job,
and he knew what his job was, which I think
also makes you more comfortable in this situation that hey,

(10:53):
I'm not here to be a starter. I'm here to
be you know what they need of me. And boy,
he's taking total advantage that he came in on a
minor league deal. He didn't even make the team out
of spring training and coming in and now that that's
what it reminds me of a little bit. Truthfully, batting
from both sides of the plate is a little more
valuable than Jankowski, who you know, I love Joan Kowski,

(11:15):
buddy of mine. I got to know him good. Uh
But I, like you said, so impressed with what Haggarty's doing.
But let's go past Haggarty because we're hearing it.

Speaker 6 (11:25):
You know it.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
They've got it announced. We're we've got Evaldi to not right.

Speaker 7 (11:31):
Nathan Valdi is starting only probably about four innings out
of him because he didn't any rehab starts. Uh, he's
coming back. I wouldn't be surprised if you know, they
haven't announced the Saturday and Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised
if if they try to split up Wider and Rocker

(11:52):
they don't. They say there isn't a need to do that.
But Corbyn would be available on.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Sunday.

Speaker 7 (12:01):
He'd he'd be he'd be available Saturday, but I think
they'd give him the extra day.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Uh, so they could go to Groham Rocker Corbyn.

Speaker 8 (12:12):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (12:12):
They also have a luxury now of having Jake Lads,
who you know, theoretically, theoretically could replace somebody into rotation.
I doubt, I doubt that would happen, but he's there
to give guys an extra day. He's there and if
a team doesn't hit lefties, well you know he he
is suddenly become a guy that the Rangers can't live without.

(12:39):
He and he does do good things in the bullpen,
There's no question about that. But right now, with Cody
Bradford out for the rest of the year and John
Gray is still probably five weeks away from pitching in
a major league game, they need they need the rotation
depth and uh, Jake Lads is suddenly a guy. So wow,

(13:01):
there's some interesting decisions to roll with him big.

Speaker 5 (13:06):
We're big fans of Jake. Jake's come on a couple
of times. Jake is just an unbelievable guy. He goes
out of his way to say hi when you see him.
I'm so happy for him. But you know, let's get
some out of the way. Since you brought him up,
there's been this kind of rumbling with the you know
who of the Texas Ranger fandom about how the media
has been hiding or the Rangers or hiding medical news

(13:27):
and all of that, and it's.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Just b s.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
I mean, we talked to Cody last week a week
before where he sounded like, hey, I'm almost ready to
go out on a rehab and do something. He ran
into some issues. It turned out to be the worst
thing possible. But these guys give you the medical reports.
We know what's going on. Not me, you guys, I'm
talking about the beach. You guys get this. This is

(13:51):
not the Rangers. Don't cover up injuries. They're giving you
what they know. Sometimes it's just the diagnosis from the
beginning until you get some imaging, your kind of thinking
it's one thing and it ends up being the worst thing.

Speaker 7 (14:03):
Yeah, you know the wold, uh, the Bradford thing is
just is it's terrible because we like Cody and he's
gonna be a good picture and the Rangers like him.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
You know.

Speaker 7 (14:18):
The if you if you want to backtrack all the
way to when it happened elbow discomfort, if that would
be three to five days, it's the imaging, all right,
then it's three weeks no throw, okay, so.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
And that's what.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
And then they laid out a rehab program for him,
and he took it so slowly and meticulously as they
all do. And and there were updates, constant updates from
him personally, yeah, on the team all along the way.
And if you paid any attention at all, you you
knew that he was on his way back and that

(14:56):
this this ligament, it just it just didn't work out
for him.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
You you always try to avoid surgery.

Speaker 7 (15:02):
That's surgery is the last thing you want to do.
You know, John Gray broke his wrist, all right, that's
a pretty that's pretty clear, you know, medical diagnosis. They'd
made it that night. He didn't have to have surgery,
and he was so grateful that he didn't have to

(15:23):
have surgery. Nobody wants to have surgery. So that's the
first thing you need to get out of your out
of your minds. Surgery is not the first option, and
you can you can go down the list.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
They're grown. They tried to avoid the second Tommy John.

Speaker 7 (15:37):
They spent about a a month, you know, maybe even
a little longer than a month with that Natali Felise,
if you want to go back to twenty twelve Natali Phillies.
They they tried to massage for a month or six
weeks before he had to.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Have the surgery.

Speaker 7 (15:57):
It's standard practice. They weren't hiding anything. And then you know,
the people are talking about Evaldi, all right. Initially, yeah,
they said it was a precautionary move and he wasn't
going to miss a start, and then it was he's
not going to miss a start, but we'll probably bump
him back a couple of days. And then they decided,
as the rangers under this medical under this era, and

(16:19):
even going back to John Daniels, they always er him
the side of caution. Yeah, so they want their horse,
who they just invested in seventy five million dollars in
to not have any issues, did not have a recurring
problem or so so it turned into something. Guess what
injuries are fluid? It requires you know, nobody recovers.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
The same way.

Speaker 7 (16:42):
And so you know, just this notion. Somebody said Jake Berger,
they announced, They announced Jake Berger. The next day, they
were concerned that night. You know, Jock Peterson, somebody said
Jock Peter. Jock Peterson broke his damn hand, all right,
and he's getting x rays today to see if he
can continue right on the timeline that they laid out.

(17:03):
So nobody, nobody here pays attention. These people who think
the Rangers are covering up injuries, they just don't pay
attention and they don't understand. Let me take you and
the Rangers aren't the only ones. All thirty teams deal
with injuries. Ask the Dodgers about their injuries right.

Speaker 6 (17:19):
Well, they're bad right now? Yeah, they're just.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Ask the Diamondbacks about their injuries. Okay.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
Man, it's just unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
And you know what part of it is too, And
I guarantee it because I dealt with one of them
that I actually said it to and I didn't even
respond afterwards. They're not they're not behind the paywall, so
they're not reading the stories every day with quotes with
it from everything where you could be reading right along
knowing what's going on, and they're not behind the DLLs paywall.
And so when he brings it up, I go here,

(17:48):
go read the story. Here's the story right here that
lays out it was the one you wrote on Bradford, I.

Speaker 6 (17:54):
Said, explains it right here. They're not hiding anything.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
Why would I go do that when he's just and
I mean not even responding to you. You don't pay
for DLLs and that's why, and you don't know what
everybody that's a beat writers behind a paywall, and so
you're gonna have to for the inside stuff. You're gonna
have to do it. And it's so freaking cheap that
it's crazy that d LLS paywall gets you. Everybody. You're

(18:17):
not just doing Rangers. I mean, we're talking about all
four major sports in Dallas Fort Worth anyway, getting off
that bandwagon. I tend to run a little bit, but
I deal bore with them than you'll do. But I'm
telling you that's I knew exactly what it was after that,
and these these the Rangers don't hide anything. And it's
let me tell you something else. The guys that are

(18:38):
on the beat, that do this for a living. When
somebody's hurt, do you think that they don't go in
right away and go, so update this, what is up?

Speaker 6 (18:45):
Why did he lead? What's going on?

Speaker 5 (18:47):
Do you not think they do that? Or they just go, well,
they probably don't want to talk about it, you know.
So you guys have a job to do. You I
hear you asking it all the time. Any update what's
going on? And they fill you in with what they can.
They're not hiding any thing, and just.

Speaker 7 (19:02):
Yeah, it's it's I don't I don't know what I
don't know you know what what it is, and I
don't know if it's there's this uh, you know, people
feel emboldened by uh social media to say stupid stuff,
but it's really dumb. I mean, I just there's just
no other way to say it.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Yeah, and and.

Speaker 7 (19:22):
And if you and if you're if you're saying these
things and not reading, whether it's me or anybody else,
you're uninformed. Yeah, and and so you're you're you're making
yourself look like a fool while you think you're some
hot shot leaning into some conspiracy. The fact of the
matter is you're probably one hundred percent uninformed on what has.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Happened well, and and and and I'll I'll give you
examples of this too. There are people, Look, I'm I am,
I am media, I'm part of but I'm not media media.
I'm not the guys that are there every day. People
will come to me and say, hey, what's going on
with this? My response, as usually, let me ask Jeff.
He'll know because Jeff knows. Jeff is in there dealing
with them all the time. He knows who to contact,

(20:06):
who to do that. What did I text you last
night to deal with David Leo? Now risk go up?
Until earlier, I haven't looked had him listed as the
starter tonight.

Speaker 7 (20:16):
Yeah, you know, there's there's just you've seen this a
lot here lately. There you know, you have to play
the numbers game on these rosters, and so you'll see
guys that are getting transferred back and forth between Frisco
and Round Rock. It's just a numbers thing. They don't
even report because the next day they're back on the
Frisco roster. Okay, So I mean there's you know, you

(20:38):
put a guy in a development list, Well, maybe you
have somebody and you're over your numbers threshold and so you.

Speaker 5 (20:44):
Know he used to come in and get an inning
or do whatever, and.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
You just you just need a roster spot.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Right, So what what do you think the roster move
is tonight? So of all these coming off the I
l so, yeah, I mean, somebody's got to go, and
I'm trying.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
Is it? Is it gunning? Is it?

Speaker 3 (21:02):
I would I would guess. I would guess it's Dunny and.

Speaker 6 (21:05):
He'll probably just be option now, right, he still has.

Speaker 7 (21:08):
He's on the he's on the forty man, so he
can be optioned. You know, they have been operating basically
with nine relievers, so I don't think it would be
our guest. He certainly doesn't deserve it and baseball baseball
is cruel, you know, but he can provide length the

(21:28):
bullpens fresh. Yeah, but the one caveat being is that
the Valdi is only giving them four innings tonight, so
what are they going to do behind him?

Speaker 3 (21:39):
And so it'll be interesting, but.

Speaker 5 (21:43):
You know, well, let's be honest. They only want a
Baldi to go four innings. But if Valdi's under his
pitch count and he can go five, he'll go.

Speaker 7 (21:51):
I mean, if he's I would, I would think, But
but you know, as much as it's pitches, it's you know,
how many times do you get up? You know, like
how many times to do rest between Indians? So but
you know, they don't want to mess with it. They
put him on the injured list to make sure he's healthy,
and they don't want to just you know, start burning
him at both ends right right out of the shoot.

(22:12):
So that is a good question.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
And you know.

Speaker 7 (22:17):
There are there aren't a lot of candidates, you know,
so we'll see what happens.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
But something, something does have to give.

Speaker 7 (22:26):
Here, yeah, yeah, And it can't be like it can't
be Langford going to the aisle because there would still
be a position players and pictures. It has to be
a picture.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
And if Langford does go, who who do you think
there is that is this? Is that a chance for
Krim to maybe come back or maybe a Hariss.

Speaker 7 (22:45):
Or you know, I'm not sure because it's not like
Harris is killing it down there right now.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
He's been better there.

Speaker 7 (22:52):
You know, they don't have any open forty man spots,
you know, because like in the perfect world, Cody Bradford
would get called up. But I think it it I
think they're gonna depending what the image showed, they'll probably
try to give why a couple of days, yeah, to
to avoid the I L And you know, if it's

(23:13):
just the same thing that he had in Pittsburgh, maybe
they do give him ten days down and maybe you
do recall you know, I mean, Krim certainly is the
most deserving outside who's on the forty man, But it's uh,
I don't know, that'll be a that'll be an interesting one.

Speaker 6 (23:32):
Yeah, because Watt's an outfield.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
They have outfielders, I mean with Haggard, with Haggardy, Carter
and Adulis and then you can go into Durant or
Smith if you need to. There's guys that can play outfield.
So the forty minute, it's gonna be a guy on
the forty. So you would think Krim is the most
deserving could come up here in dh or do what
I mean, And there's so many things to do with
Durant's been pretty good too, or he's been better uh

(23:57):
doing that. But hey, listen, coming into this weekend though
this is series, Uh, this is a chance to I
mean to do with Seattle. This is in my opinion,
you've got to show up good this weekend.

Speaker 7 (24:10):
Yeah, yeah, and you know it's it's one of the
teams in front of the Rangers that's pretty pretty tightly bunched.
But you know there's a gap to the Astros, but
the team's second, third, and fourth or kind of right
there at each other's heels. So yeah, chance to make

(24:30):
ground up, not necessarily on the Astros, but you know,
knock out one of the teams in front of you
so that you have a clear path to the top.
You know, we all know the Astros can pitch, and
that's you know, that's a concern for this offense. But
that's where the manufacturing the runs comes in. You know,

(24:52):
the Rangers needn't need to understand. I'm sure they do
by now they're playing they're going to be playing low
scoring games. Sure, you need to have quality of bats,
can't can't miss their pitch.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
That they get that kind of thing.

Speaker 7 (25:05):
But they also if you need to do something like
get a runner over, go ahead and bite the bullet
and get the guy over. All right, your teammates will
appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (25:17):
Yeah, manufacture it. Do it.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
Hey, let me tell you what there's I don't know
if you've seen this and you've probably not asked about
it yet, or maybe you have. I don't know you
were in Baltimore. You're out on the road for this one.
But there are some rumors swirling that the Rangers have
talked to J. D. Martinez, who has not had a
gig yet. And that is a bat that went on

(25:39):
as a good bat, got some power. He's been a
what six time All Star? I think something to that effect.
Have you heard anything or what's what?

Speaker 6 (25:50):
What do you know?

Speaker 3 (25:52):
I don't know anything about that. I don't know. You know.

Speaker 6 (25:57):
Bob Nightingale said it great.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
You gotta you've gotta temper it with the understanding that
there's not a lot of money, all right, And all
Martinez does is DH sure, okay, Jock Peterson when he
comes back, that's all he's gonna do.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Yeah, I don't know that.

Speaker 7 (26:15):
It makes a ton of sense. And then you know,
they they they the Rangers do their diligence. You know,
they check in on lots of things. But I just
don't see that one.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Happening.

Speaker 7 (26:30):
Okay, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me
unless he's willing to play for the league minimum, maybe
sign a minor league contract. But what's he been doing.
He's gonna he's gonna have to go to the minor leagues.
You know, he's not just gonna hop into the lineup.
You know, it's not a short term play. It's it's

(26:50):
something that would would take a lot of time.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
And I don't I don't know that. I I mean,
it could happen, but I don't.

Speaker 7 (26:58):
I don't think. I don't think it's up front. I
don't think the front burner issue.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
Well, I think the I think the the the words
that were used when it was a non guaranteed big
league contract, meaning I guess it's not guaranteed, or maybe
it's incentive laced or something to that effect, but that
that's what I would guess, more incentive laced or something
like that. You got a chance to earn what you want,
but you're gonna have to earn it something to that

(27:23):
effective can come and do that. I mean, but yeah,
if you if you sign him and you have to
take him to the to the minor leagues to get
some reps, I mean, don't you have to. You're gonna
have to go ahead and put him on the forty initially, right,
and then.

Speaker 7 (27:36):
Well, if it's a major league deal, he goes on
the forties. So are you taking off?

Speaker 6 (27:40):
You know?

Speaker 3 (27:41):
Yeah, I guess, I guess.

Speaker 7 (27:42):
I guess it would be Doney, But you know, garretson,
Garabido's gone. Yeah, So I don't have don't have that
one anymore.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
But I don't. I really don't have any information on it. Okay,
So I don't.

Speaker 7 (27:55):
I don't want to speculate, but to me, it doesn't
make a whole hell of a lot of sense. Ear last,
I can punch them holes into it.

Speaker 5 (28:01):
Well, hey, let's get let's get that cole in here,
and uh, let's let's talk to cole Win.

Speaker 6 (28:07):
You got anything else before we do that?

Speaker 3 (28:09):
Nope, let's get in cole.

Speaker 6 (28:11):
Win right after this. Guys. All right, guys enjoining us
right now.

Speaker 5 (28:21):
It's Texas Rangers, right hand picture cole Win, friend of
the show here. He's been on a few times, and man,
he's making his mark right now in the on the
big league team, which is where we knew he was
going to end up, and now he's solidifying himself.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
Cole what's going on? Man?

Speaker 3 (28:35):
How's it going? Guys? Thanks for having me on?

Speaker 7 (28:37):
Yeah, uh, you know I mentioned it early on. We're Colorado, guys,
we've got to stay together. I appreciate the Buffs hat
that you're wearing. Absolutely, I did it for you. Well,
I appreciate it. I had my my Colorado shirt like
that one I sent you. I did get it. I
just it's just hanging up, so I did. I didn't
put it on, but I may have to wear it
for you now. This reciprocal move here, I think we

(28:59):
should have taking to the ballpark. All right, we've got it.
I think we should I'll do a wardrobe change here
in a minute. All right, perfect, Yeah, So thanks for
joining us as always. Uh, still have the stash, so
that's a good thing.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
What what what?

Speaker 7 (29:15):
What's what's changed for you? What's changed since last year
for you? Is it just feeling feeling comfortable in the
major leagues or did you make a change mechanically.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
I think it's just getting more comfortable.

Speaker 8 (29:26):
Uh, the more time you're up and the more you're
around the guys, and you know, get a feel of
the game, like it starts to go back to the
game you grew up playing. So at the end of
the day, it is still just a game. So I
think I am feeling a little bit more comfortable. And
then you know last year being down in June and
not playing the rest.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Of the year, I think you you find that love
for the game again.

Speaker 8 (29:50):
Yeah, and I think when you get to come back
and play, I think you have a little different appreciation
for it.

Speaker 7 (29:56):
Well yeah, yeah, the dad gum, that injury just kind
of kind of flew under the radar.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
How long did it take you to get back to
you know, full health. I started throwing.

Speaker 8 (30:10):
Probably like late July, early August, and then back on
a mound in September, and then I was back healthy
at the end of October.

Speaker 7 (30:18):
Okay, so you you were able to enjoy, not enjoy,
but you didn't have any limitations in the off.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Season, right, Yeah.

Speaker 8 (30:25):
I was able to have a full off season, hit
the body back to normal, and you know, I have
a somewhat of a real off season.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Well that's good, that's good.

Speaker 7 (30:36):
What You've really been pretty healthy the you know, ever
since they drafted you.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Any any what was that experience like it was something new? Yeah,
it was different for sure.

Speaker 8 (30:51):
Obviously, you know, health is the biggest priority in the game,
and you know, up until last year, this was my
first like real injury, so it was a little bit weird.
It took a while to get used to, especially not
playing and just watching the guys online and not going
to the games is a little weird. But you know,
I was able to take a little bit of a

(31:12):
breather and kind of reflect on, you know, debuting in
baseball and you know, like I said, find that love.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
Yeah, you know, that's that's the thing. I mean.

Speaker 7 (31:23):
Obviously, you have a job that all of us would
have to have, would love to have, but you still
want to have fun at your job. Was baseball becoming
Did it feel like a job instead of a game?

Speaker 3 (31:38):
Not really, No, I think it's it's never really felt
like a job.

Speaker 8 (31:42):
You know, it's I mean, it is. It's a game,
and you know, I've been playing it since I was
a kid.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
Like now.

Speaker 8 (31:47):
Obviously the stakes are a little bit different and the
games mean a lot more. But to me, I've never
looked at it as as like a real job.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
Okay, well that's good, but I mean, you know, uh,
you know, people say to me, oh, that's a great job, like, well,
thank you. It is fun, but you know, you still
have jerks at your job and you still.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
Run into problems.

Speaker 7 (32:08):
It's not like it's not like everything's laid down on
a bed of roses for you and especially when you're
trying to make it to the major leagues. And I
know we've talked to you about this before, but to
actually have that moment in Houston. Looking back on it
a year later, what what can you? Is it still
like I did it?

Speaker 3 (32:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (32:32):
Obviously every time I look back on it, it is like, yeah,
I did it. Like that feeling is great, Like you know,
like I feel like for everybody's first like it could
go a little bit different, but like I felt like
I blacked out out there and you know, I blinked
and the outing was over and then you know, it's
a big leader. So I think it was obviously a
really special day for myself and my family, and you

(32:54):
know it's cool to celebrate that with them.

Speaker 7 (32:57):
Well, and like it was a getaway day, so like
it was like blink, get on a plane and go.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
I mean it was like you.

Speaker 7 (33:03):
Know, it was it was it was some kind of day. Coincidentally,
my car got told that day on the way.

Speaker 6 (33:10):
To the park. I remember that day.

Speaker 7 (33:14):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, some lady uh was at a stop
late and she didn't stop.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
So yeah, a little bit like for me I guess
I had like.

Speaker 7 (33:22):
A cut on my forehead and a little whip lash
that the Rangers were giving me some medicine for. Uh,
but and then they and then uh, and then rich
Rice said, yeah, cole Win's gonna be here, like, oh,
all right, good, I need some I need some Colorado
right now, right. No, So yeah, I'll never I'll never

(33:43):
forget that day four fourteen, all right, exactly exactly. So, yeah,
the mustache name. We all know you haven't allowed an
earned run, uh this year? Did you when you did
get called backed up this year? Did they tell you?

(34:07):
I guess you didn't have anything to change, nothing to
work on. Is it just been exactly what you've been
doing since since spring training?

Speaker 8 (34:14):
Yeah, changed a little bit changed. I added a cutter
and changed my curve ball up a little bit, but
other than that, it was still just trying to tack
through the middle of the zone and challenge hitters. So yeah,
when I actually got up, all the staff was doing,
uh mustache may so I fit right in right away, perfect,

(34:35):
But theirs are.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
All gone and mine's still gone.

Speaker 7 (34:40):
Like like they say in bul Durham, never mess with
a streak, right, you can't You can't do it, so
and hey, I hope you have the I hope you
have it the whole year.

Speaker 6 (34:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
I don't know if I could do it the whole year,
but you know, I hope so too.

Speaker 7 (34:55):
I think you need to start getting creative with it,
you know, like yousembody saying him going, there's.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
A lot of things, a lot of things you can do.

Speaker 6 (35:04):
It's got a fiance man, you got.

Speaker 8 (35:08):
Well, yeah, I don't know if she would like that
if it started getting a little crazy. I talked to
her about, you know, curling it and wasn't a fan
of that.

Speaker 7 (35:16):
Okay, all right, So what what What has the cutter
done for you?

Speaker 8 (35:22):
I think it's just added more so along with the
sinker and forced him. It's just kind of like a
triangle of fastballs that gives a hitters a little different look,
and it's a it's harder. I think I've gotten up
to ninety three, ninety four, like the best ones, and
then it's something to go into lefties, which is what I.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
Guess I struggled with, like in and like up to lefties.

Speaker 8 (35:46):
So I think it's it's been good to kind of
use that along with my sinker.

Speaker 7 (35:51):
So have you have. Have you ditched the slider or
it's just replaced the slider?

Speaker 3 (35:59):
Yeah, Torso replaced the slider. Okay, yeah, because I mean
you've always you vote. I mean, you were a starter.

Speaker 7 (36:06):
You've thrown a ton of pitches your whole career, so
just you know, I guess it's the evolution of a picture,
changing the arsenal and everything. And then and then I
thought I thought the addition of Jordan Tiegs would help
out a young guy like you. How has he been
as the bullpen coach? And You've had a lot of
relationship with him.

Speaker 8 (36:26):
Yeah, He's awesome, And I think it just adds another
level of comfortability. I worked with him in twenty twenty,
he was there with us in COVID and you know,
I've had a great relationship with him since.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
So I think you know him.

Speaker 8 (36:38):
Being there, I think he he knows his stuff really well.
He knows me really well. If there's something a little
bit off, they'll come to me and tell me like, hey,
you're doing this, and then it's a subtle changeabile fix.
And I mean I think he's great.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (36:53):
Uh, I think this is relevant this question because you're
seeing you're seeing what Jacob Lance is doing. Uh, And
I asked, I asked Chris Young about it the other day.
They haven't closed the door. They're not completely closed minded
to you being a starter again. Is that something you
would like to give another go with.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (37:14):
Absolutely, they You know, if they asked me to be
a starter, I'd be a starter. They told me to
be in the bullpen, I'd be in the bullpen. I
think it's just wherever they want me, I would do.
And I was I was thinking about, like watching the
last start, I'm like, well, I I kind of miss starting,
but at the end of the day, like I'm still
loving the bullpen.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
I think right now, I.

Speaker 8 (37:36):
Think it's it's it's been really good. I think especially
for me as a picture, like attacking hitters. I think
if I went in the same mindset as a starter
and attack the hitters the way I do it the bullpen,
I think it would be I think it would be good.
But for right now, I'm in the bullpen.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
Yeah, no, I'm not. I'm not saying you go start
banging on the right.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
I know you're in the bullpen, but you're in the
big leagues and I'm mean having success. I mean I
understand what Jeff's asking. But I'm like, hey, yeah, you
want me to start all start, but you keep me
in the big leagues. I mean, I'll catch, you need
me to catch. I don't know what I want to be.
Here is where I want to be.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
That's what I'm saying. I would do anything they asked
me to.

Speaker 7 (38:17):
Yeah, and that's that's what Jacob said too. He said,
you know, if they want me to stay in the bullpen, I'm.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
Glad to do that.

Speaker 7 (38:25):
But you know, he he came up, he's always been
a starter, kind of like you were until a couple
of years ago. So, uh, you're on similar paths, different arms,
but similar paths. So hey, let's see what happens. All right,
I'm done with the baseball stuff. I think John's got.

Speaker 5 (38:41):
Some I got a few to be some. No, But
you know, like you said that, it is fun that
he's that. He's like Jacob did the same thing. What's
really fun is to watch homegrown talent that was drafted
by this organization coming up. And there's a ton of
them that are having success one of them and that's

(39:01):
fun to see. With somebody grew up a fan of
the Rangers, it's fun to see development of pitching working out.
And we're seeing the great arms throughout the system the
big league levels where it's supposed to pay off, and
it's paying off. Cole Win's doing it, Jake Latt's doing it.
We've got Ladder and Kamara that are up there too.
I mean, you're seeing a lot of guys that grew
up in this organization. Bradford unfortunately before his injury, he's

(39:23):
another guy that started out with this organization. But I mean,
it's fun to see that. But let's go back to
the fun stuff. Okay, this is so different and I've
always wanted to know this as somebody that Jeff and
I we would love to have been major big leaguers.
We were never good enough to do that. You always
want to know this. What's the difference in a plane
ride when you're in triple A in a plane ride

(39:45):
when you're in the big leagues.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
There's a pretty big difference. Ye, all right, we're getting arrested.
What's going on? There was some comps over. They're pulling
somebody over, but j a little strong graphic violation. Here's
a street over.

Speaker 8 (40:06):
We're there, We're good here, but yeah, the plane rides
are a little bit different most times. I ain't, especially earlier
this year, I got put in the middle seat in
the back of the plane in Triple A flights, So
I think you're just a little bit more comfortable on
big league flights. You know, you can get up, walk
around and it's first class seats all the way back,

(40:29):
and yeah, I mean it's just it's a lot different.
You know, you don't have to go through like the
TSA security and yeah, I mean it's it's great. I
can't complain with the big league flights.

Speaker 5 (40:42):
Hey, so you know right now and you've been up
for a while now and you've habitats. You haven't been
to all of them yet, but we know Globela Fields
your favorite big League stadium because that's your home stadium.
But besides that, being on the road, where have you
gone to on the road now and said, Wow, this
is this is cool stadium I really did this, or
the atmosphere, I can't believe I'm here doing this. Has

(41:03):
there been a stadium or two that you're like, man,
this is really cool.

Speaker 6 (41:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (41:08):
I think Yankee Stadium earlier this year, I think it
was really cool just because of it's Yankee Stadium, New
York is awesome. And then another one I really liked
was Philly last year. I really liked Philly. I don't
know what it was. Whether I thought the stadium was
really cool, Yeah, I thought. I thought the fans were funny,
yelling at you constantly.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
I thought that was great.

Speaker 8 (41:30):
But yeah, i'd say those are probably my top two.
And then Atlanta last year. I thought it was cool
that be my top three.

Speaker 7 (41:37):
What did you think about the Camden Yards? I mean
it's it was like, you know, the first of the
the uh. I guess they're not new anymore, but you know,
they went through that wave in the early nineties, probably
before you were born, talking about these new, these new ballparks.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
What did you think about it? I liked Camden Yards.

Speaker 8 (41:58):
It was cool, the bullpen was nice, the playing service nice,
amount was great.

Speaker 6 (42:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
I really liked Kenyon. I thought where we stayed it
was cool too, by the water and oh yeah, yeah
that's a good that's a good spot, that's a good hotel.

Speaker 5 (42:13):
Which one of them had the best spread? I know,
you guys get fed a little differently than minor leaguers do.
I mean, they cooked for you guys, what did you
go to and went? Man, it's some good, credible.

Speaker 8 (42:22):
I think New York was probably my my favorite. That
spread was the best so far.

Speaker 3 (42:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (42:29):
Are you are you a big crab guy? Because the
first night in Baltimore, as you learned, they always do
the theyways do the I don't.

Speaker 3 (42:36):
Know, blue crabs or stone crabs, some kind of crab. Yeah,
I didn't. I didn't try any. I am a crab guy,
but I didn't try any don't. I don't know why.
I was just walked right out, didn't even pay attention. Well,
it was hot. I don't know if I don't know
if that I don't know crab leather or not.

Speaker 5 (42:54):
Yeah, right, yeah, yeah, and we're gonna get you out
of here.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
I got I got one for him before.

Speaker 7 (43:03):
I mean, well, while you were talking about the first
round picks, there's the last.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
There's six of them right now on the on the roster.

Speaker 7 (43:10):
Yeah, and Cole's like the oldest one draft because he
was the eighteen draft. He's not the I don't know
if he's the oldest player. So I think Josh, he
was young.

Speaker 6 (43:21):
He was eighteen coming out of.

Speaker 7 (43:22):
Right, right, But I mean that's you kind of have
like draft seniority. It's kind of weird, but like eighteen
through twenty five they're all on the ross, or eight
through twenty three they're on the roster right now.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
That's kind of cool. Yeah, that's really cool. It's really cool. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (43:36):
I think Josh Young has got me beat on age
and then obviously big league time.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
So I think he's probably that the captain of the
first round group right now. Yeah, are you older than Rocker?
Are you guys the same? I think I think he's
got me beat by a few days.

Speaker 8 (43:53):
Okay, we're pretty close because I think he's got a
November birthday because you're remember.

Speaker 3 (44:01):
November.

Speaker 7 (44:02):
Yeah, he's okay, so he's the twenty second all right,
he's got me by three days. Okay, there you go,
three days and.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
You're over because your your lockers over by Jack? Is
Jack younger than you or older than I.

Speaker 8 (44:15):
Think he's younger than me. Yeah, I think I got
him beat by a little bit.

Speaker 6 (44:19):
You know, to mess with him about peanut butter, right
if you and he hates peanut butter.

Speaker 3 (44:23):
That's what I heard. Yeah he was. Yeah, you're saying
he doesn't like peanut butter.

Speaker 8 (44:28):
I don't I don't know if I've ever met somebody
that doesn't like peanut butter.

Speaker 3 (44:32):
That's not a lergic.

Speaker 5 (44:35):
Yeah, he likes peanuts, but he doesn't like it. But
I talked to his mom all the time in Double A.
She was like, it was the worst. When you're trying
to travel to watch his dad play ball. You got
to make snacks and all the daughters love peanut butter
and he wouldn't eat it. So okay, right now on
the big league team, who's your mentor, who's somebody you
really go to you bounce stuff off.

Speaker 6 (44:55):
Is there get anybody that's really helped you out?

Speaker 8 (44:57):
I think sports Josh spores to be the one I
go to and just kind of asking questions like, hey,
is this something I should be doing?

Speaker 3 (45:05):
Is like not doing? And I think he's been great
with kind of guiding me through the first couple of
years in the big leagues. He's been awesome with that.

Speaker 8 (45:14):
And then Luke Jackson is always approachable, go up to him,
ask him anything.

Speaker 3 (45:19):
I mean, he's been doing.

Speaker 8 (45:20):
It for a while with many different teams and he's
got a lot of experience, So you talk to him.

Speaker 3 (45:26):
And obviously Chris.

Speaker 8 (45:27):
Martin and the book, been really approachable, great with the
young guys.

Speaker 3 (45:31):
But yeah, I'd say those were my top three right now.

Speaker 6 (45:35):
Awesome. I love to hear that.

Speaker 5 (45:36):
I love to hear the big league guy that that
you guys helping each other out. That's fantastic.

Speaker 6 (45:41):
All right, So win us the wedding, by the way,
not sure yet.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
We haven't. We haven't set a date, so we're still
trying to figure that out.

Speaker 6 (45:49):
When did you get engaged to get engaged for the
season or.

Speaker 8 (45:53):
It was right around probably a week or two after
I got called up.

Speaker 3 (45:57):
I was planning on doing it and then yeah, just
so happened. I got called up and did it here. Okay,
this is a this is a recent thing. Yeah, really recent.

Speaker 5 (46:07):
Okay, I wonder Now she's somebody you grew up with.
Where'd you meet her?

Speaker 3 (46:12):
I met her? I dmd her on Instagram?

Speaker 8 (46:15):
Okay, yeah, there we go, and then met up in
spring training in twenty two, twenty one two, and yeah,
I've been talking ever since. She originally grew up in
Hawaii and then went to college in Arizona. So I
met her in Arizona.

Speaker 5 (46:34):
Okay, that's fantastic. You know, my daughter's twenty seven and
her and her current boyfriend, who I think are probably
gonna end up together. They kind of met that way
to the Instagram thing or whatever.

Speaker 7 (46:45):
It was a right started some DNS man, Yeah right,
have you wait? Have you does her families that live
in Hawaii?

Speaker 8 (46:54):
One of her sisters do, but the other ones living
in California and Arizona.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
Well, there would be some pretty sweet family big nations.
Yeah right.

Speaker 8 (47:04):
I've actually never been to Hawaiian been trying to get
out there, but tough to get out there.

Speaker 3 (47:10):
I've heard the good things, very good.

Speaker 5 (47:12):
Yeah, Hey, is there anything you're streaming right now?

Speaker 6 (47:15):
Any shows or anything?

Speaker 8 (47:17):
You're not really no, I'm I'm a big rewatch shows,
so I'm playing.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
I started rewatching Peaky Winders.

Speaker 6 (47:27):
That's a good one. I was going to start that.
I like that.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
I like that. I think the fourth season is my
favorite season.

Speaker 6 (47:33):
Yeah. I didn't get to it yet.

Speaker 5 (47:34):
I've always like things changed during the second season. By
the way, have you have you ever seen that?

Speaker 6 (47:39):
Jeff? I have not.

Speaker 5 (47:41):
You know who's in it is what's his name? The
guy that's the lead.

Speaker 6 (47:45):
What's the guy's name?

Speaker 3 (47:46):
He's one of the most Cillian Murphy.

Speaker 5 (47:49):
Yeah, Cilia Murphley is the lead in that. Now he's
Academy Award winner and all that.

Speaker 6 (47:54):
He's good.

Speaker 7 (47:56):
You're talking about. Oh, here we go, let's let's Ooh
he's Irish. All right, I know who you is.

Speaker 5 (48:02):
All right, Hey listen, Cole, seriously, we thank you for
coming on here. Let's get you out of here. You've
got to get to the stadium soon. We're going to
see you out there in a little while. You know,
we we You and I talked a couple of weeks ago.
You're like, yeah, anytime, let's do it. Jeff got in
there and you were immediately like, yeah, well, let's get together,
let's do it. It's been great. We're gonna do it again,
hopefully by the end of the season. It'd be fun

(48:24):
to do it. Maybe for a playoff preview, would be fun.
We want to see you, guys, that's what we're gonna do.
And if you're stay in the Metroplex this offseason, we're
gonna try to do some sort of live show or
something like that. Maybe come out and hang out and
bring your fiance. We'll meet her and get her some
food or something. But uh, hey, we appreciate it. Look,

(48:45):
we really appreciate it. We really appreciate you coming out
and we can't thank you enough.

Speaker 6 (48:49):
Bud.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
Thank you guys for having me on a couple hours.

Speaker 5 (48:54):
Yeah, all right, guys, we're gonna go down on the
bus leagues right after this. Good thanks to Cole Winn
for coming on there.

Speaker 6 (49:06):
Guys. Now time to go down and the bus leagues.

Speaker 5 (49:08):
We're going to start at the top with the Frisco
Rough Riders school all the way down. We'll leaven touch
base with some DSL news the Frisco rough Riders. First
of all, every team in the minor leagues right now
has started their second half of the season. None of
them ended up winning their division the first time, so
we don't have any playoff teams yet confirm playoff teams.
Frisco was the closest. I think they lost it there

(49:29):
that last weekend. In fact, I went out to a
game this week. I didn't know I told you that
you were in Baltimore. I ran out for that day
game Tuesday. Kathy's group went out there, and so I said,
you know, I'll go out and get my credential and
hang out in the press box and do that. I
did talk to Carlos for a second. He was calming by,

(49:49):
gave me a big ol' hug and asked, if you know,
he said, if we get the bats going, So I
guess they were wanting some offense to get rolling. And
again the guys that were impressive were impressive. But let's
start with Triple A. They're in the second half of
the season. They're in second place right now, they're two
and one starting the second half. They've won two in
a row. Who do we talk about there?

Speaker 7 (50:09):
Well, I mean, you know, they're getting some some offense
here in this series. Alan Treo's had a nice series.
He was in big league camp. He's even in the
majors for a little bit this year with the Rockies.
But Krim keeps hitting h Cody Freeman keeps hitting Uh. Again,
It's it's all all about pitching here, and they're kind

(50:31):
of just kind of piecing things together, you know. I guess, uh,
Howers on the forty man, Corvello's on the forty man
if a reliever is needed. So yeah, Bosley needs to,
you know, do his do his time, you know, do
his do his Fifteen days after the option.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
He'll be Yeah, he'll be back in the big leagues
pretty soon.

Speaker 5 (50:56):
Yeah, and so you know that that's that, it's normal
what we see down there. They're getting going the double A.
Frisco rough Riders sit in first place again. To start
it off, they're two and one starting out the second
half of the season. And they started that Tuesday when
it started. They're two and one. They've won one. So
they won Tuesday, lost yes Wednesday, and then ended up

(51:20):
winning yesterday.

Speaker 6 (51:22):
There. I mean, I'll tell you this. I was out there.

Speaker 5 (51:24):
I mean again, it's fun to watch Sebastian Walcott. Sebastian
got a couple of hits. They weren't scorchers, but boy,
his legs or something else.

Speaker 3 (51:35):
Well, you know, again, the keys are how's he doing
when the strikeouts? All right?

Speaker 7 (51:41):
Again the strikeout rates down from last year. All Right,
the power is going to be there. He hasn't he
hasn't hit for much power of late.

Speaker 6 (51:49):
But I think he's got eight home runs? Didn't he eight?

Speaker 8 (51:51):
Or on?

Speaker 7 (51:52):
Yeah, this is a young kid, you know, we're still
talking about a nineteen year old cam Cauley's having a
little resurgency, showing off a little power. Luis Miesa's continues
to hit home runs again, at a not a top
flight prospect, but you never know. You never know when
a guy is gonna gonna bloom. Aaron Zavala, he hit

(52:12):
a three run homer last night. I believe he's cooled
off a little bit, but still a nice rebound year
for him. And then on the pitching side, you know,
Cole Drake, I can't imagine he's in Double A for
a much longer. Yeah, just just really dominant here of late.
Mitch Brat's been very, very good, of course, So those

(52:33):
two guys, I'm guessing will be on the move at
some point. I think Drake before Brett guys.

Speaker 6 (52:38):
I think.

Speaker 5 (52:39):
I think Friscro's in town until I think they do
take a break next week. Is there an All Star
coming or something to that. But they they're in town
the rest of this week and I think even going
into next week. So if you've haven't had a chance
to get out there, get out there. The tickets are
it's you're gonna see big leaguers playing for Frisco rough Riders,
future big leaguers.

Speaker 7 (52:58):
There's a figure of the speaking of big leaguers in
round Rock or sponsor. They're playing Ta Coma and and
uh Leodi Tavers is on the Tacoma team. Uh so I.

Speaker 3 (53:12):
Miss He's a good man and which nothing but the
best for him.

Speaker 5 (53:17):
Yeah, let's go down to hub City, the hub City
Spartan Burgers. That's the high A team. Hub City is
three and three starting the second half. They won last night.
This guy we talked about all the time for Frisco
or for hub City, is now going to be the
still I'm assuming the starter listed to night for Frisco,
David dev Leo. He's already been up there, he's made

(53:40):
one start, he's supposed to start tonight. But in hub City,
you know our guy Keith Jones, the second Yeah, didn't
win Player of the Week or something.

Speaker 3 (53:49):
He's been on a he's been on a roll. Uh.

Speaker 7 (53:52):
You know, they've been battling rain here. So they played
a double hitter last night. Glider Figurero won the second
one with a walk off homer. He's up to twelve
home runs. Still not still still kind of all or
nothing with him. But but you know grantlyd and cooked
the second and third rounders from last year, you know,
not great, but they're playing every day and getting their reps.

(54:15):
So you know, Anthony Goutiers again hot and cold. Malcolm
Moore is back, so that's that's the big one there. Yeah,
he came back after his little thumb injury wasn't little
as a fracture that cost him, you know, basically two months.
So anyway, they're they're kind of getting getting the pieces

(54:36):
all back together there.

Speaker 5 (54:37):
Right Hickory Crawdeds and their their player of the week
was also Maxton Martin, who we've had on here. They're
five and one. Uh there, their first place in five
and one. They started out hot this second half they
won again last night. Maxton Martin's a name to watch
down there. There's uh who else we.

Speaker 7 (54:54):
Well, you know the the the I mentioned last week
if this happened, I miss it. But Dalton Penn's is
going to be getting called up to Hub City pretty soon.
Mason Maline has already been called up. You're still watching Scarborough,
you're still watching rock Porter if you're interested in him,
and you know, it just keeps going out there and I

(55:16):
always say it's the same thing every week. But he's
been he's been pretty good. So it's not like a
huge star power team.

Speaker 8 (55:26):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (55:26):
There are some some international guys on the hitting side,
like Cabrera, who who is picking it up a little
bit here. So I would imagine that this, oh, Devin
Fitzgerald of course has been called up. He's betten two
fifty in his first six games. You know, this roster
will start to see some of the complex league guys

(55:48):
toward the end of that season get called up to
the full season squad. So that's that's kind of This
is a bunch of a bunch of young guys and
some maybe some college guys who are filling spots will
be honest, but the Rangers still like them to some degree.

Speaker 5 (56:07):
I tell you what, And if you're a baseball nerd
and you love baseball and do all of that, I
tell you we're at the end of June. We're coming
into July. There's still some weeks left this summer. If
you're looking for a vacation, it might be worth taking
a trip into the Carolinas, which is beautiful itself, but
to get in there and maybe make a baseball trip
out of it. Go see hub City and go see Hickory.

(56:27):
They're not that far apart. I only think they're about
eighty to ninety eight miles apart.

Speaker 3 (56:31):
Yeah, they're pretty close.

Speaker 5 (56:33):
You can spend one day at one and one at
the other see a couple of the Rangers' prospects. That
there are always minor league games are fun to go to,
and I'm so glad that they're around the country for
people that don't live in big league cities, it's a
great chance to go see some guys do that. We're
gonna go down to the Arizona Complex League where they're
in second place right now. They are twenty two and seventeen.

(56:55):
This team's been good pretty much all since it started.

Speaker 3 (57:00):
Yeah, they have some good young talent.

Speaker 7 (57:02):
Polino Santana is kind of finding finding his footing there.
You know, they don't have Devin Fitzgerald anymore. So I'm
sure that was kind of a blow. But you know,
the pitching side again, hag him In is going to
be getting called up real soon. He was the fifth
rounder last year out of West Virginia, had the had

(57:24):
the Tommy John and so he'll be moving up. And
so that's you know, that's it's just hot and those
kids are out there working hard.

Speaker 6 (57:33):
It is hot.

Speaker 7 (57:34):
It's not any fun, I don't think, but hey, good
for them.

Speaker 5 (57:39):
And below that and another place that's hot. If you
go to the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic, the DSL Rangers.
There's two teams playing there. Red team right now is
eleven and six, which we've already talked about a couple
of times they did to stack one team and not
the other. And the blue team has won three games,
so the three and fifteen. But it doesn't matter. Look,

(58:02):
if you're on the blue team, if you shine there,
it's going to give you a chance to move up.

Speaker 3 (58:05):
But it's just a chance. These kids are so young, you.

Speaker 5 (58:09):
Know, absolutely, we're talking sixteen seventeen year olds in some cases.
But that seems like a trick. I might like to
do some time. Go down you've seen it, right, You
made a trip down there to see that complex.

Speaker 3 (58:22):
Yeah, I did go with Rangers officials. I think that's
the key.

Speaker 7 (58:25):
Don't go down there unless you speak the language and
understand Dominican life.

Speaker 5 (58:31):
Yes, well, if I ever decided to do something, there
are some vacation spots in the Dominican Republic. I just
wonder if they're close enough, you might do that.

Speaker 3 (58:40):
Put Ta Khan is way on the other side of
the m Yeah.

Speaker 5 (58:43):
Absolutely, Well, guys, we're gonna wrap this one up. A
