Speaker 5 (00:45):
They'll play the All Star game tonight and not one
Texas Ranger will take the field.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Is there.

Speaker 5 (00:53):
Any way, it can still be a Midsummer Classic, I think.
So we'll explain why next on the DLLs Rangers Podcast. Yeah,

(01:18):
you know, it seems like one of those guys should
be there, and it's probably true that if he were,
he wouldn't be pitching either. Hi there, and welcome into
the DLLs Sports Studios. It's the DLLs Rangers Podcast. Jacob
de Gram not pitching in tonight's All Star Game, and
if Nathan and Valdi were there, which he should be,
he wouldn't be either. He pitched on Sunday. But anyway,

(01:41):
let's talk about all of it. It's All Star Game Day.
John Radigan here, Jeff Wilson there. We've got Ryan voters
in today and we want chat, questions and comments from.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
You all hour long.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
We're here to wrap up your lunch hour as we
go from now until around two o'clock live. And of course,
if you're watching this at another time, thanks for tuning in.
Uh So, here's the deal. It's a weird set of circumstances, Jeff,
when pitchers you know, are selected, and I mean, how
many pitchers did we see over the weekend that said

(02:16):
from both leagues? Yeah, I'm not gonna be able to participate.
I pitched on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, it's unfortunate that the All Star Game, the All
Star breaks should just be a whole week, or the
All Star Games should be on Wednesday, Wednesday, or Yeah.
Jacob de Gram said, if the game, if he wasn't
for if he was, if he had thrown Friday instead
of Saturday, he would have pitched, you know, and his

(02:43):
bullpen day is today is today, and he acknowledged that,
but he also you know, didn't didn't know if you
should get you know, ramped up for you know, one
innion of work. So I don't know of aldi. You know,
I mentioned it to him that he wasn't on the
team and I said, well, you're throwing Sunday. He goes, well,
you know, knowing me, I probably would have pitched anyway. Yeah,

(03:05):
so I think he would have been pretty pretty fired
up for it. And and then you know, you kind
of read these stories about the you know, we got
mcjowers in there, uh, going off on on the Brewers
kid Mzrawski being in there after five starts, and how
the Phillies guys were upset, and I guess that Ranger

(03:26):
Suarez had been asked if he would pitch, but would
he be able, would he be available for more than
an inning, to which he said no, So they moved
on to the next guy. And I don't know, you know,
the it is curious how this guy ended up on
the roster, you know, because did the player, did the

(03:47):
players really think that highly of them? And that and
that's supposedly how this thing is supposed to go. The
replacements are based on the order of the player vote.
I think in a case like Rangers, where or or
any team that just has one guy, if you're one
guy can't participate or declients participate, somebody from that team

(04:09):
has to go. I think that's a reasonable way to
do it. And you know, maybe you have trouble finding
a second White Sox player, right or a second Rockies player. Yeah,
but you know the Rangers, Hey, they got some guys.
So anyway, it is what it is, as they like
to say. And Jacob will line up on the on

(04:29):
the I guess where are they. They're in Atlanta, so
that's the truest. So they'll line up on the first
base side. I think I think the home team there
is in the third base Uguta. Anyway, they'll line up
and everything will be great. I'll get introduced and then
the game will go off and he won't he won't

(04:49):
be missed. And and Rangers fans should actually in the
Rangers should be frilled that he's.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
Absolutely and I love the fact that he's basically there.
And he said this, he may have said it to you, Jeff,
but he said he's there because he wants his family,
you know, the old the kids are getting a little older,
the older kids to realize, you know, like dad's an
All Star. Like he wants them to experience the joy,

(05:14):
the fun, you know, the adulation that comes with being
an All Star. And and so anyway, I think that's
great that that this is basically, essentially, Jeff in the
middle of the summer, a family vacation for.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
The de Groms. Yeah, and we're better at a vacation
than steam me Atlanta. I didn't go to the beach.
Oh no, no, yeah, I mean, I guess the good
news is that Jacob lives not far from Atlanta, down
there near Daytona Beach. So uh, there's the beach. Yeah,

(05:48):
slide over there for a day and then head back.
You know, he's not going to pitch until the second series,
so he's got some time off. Yeah. His oldest son
is Jackson, who gets it now and plays baseball and
all that stuff. Nolan is the new one. I guess
knew like two years old, maybe getting close to two,
so he doesn't know what's going on. I think they

(06:09):
have a daughter too. I'm not I'm gonna do in
between those two.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
Yeah, so she made she's probably conscious now, right, No, yeah,
she probably hasn't.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Her dad's pretty cool. Uh so, And you never know
when you're gonna get another one.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Now.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
I would suspect that if Jacob is pitching this way
this year, in his first year back, that there will
be opportunities for him to pitch in future All Star Games.
He really want He really wanted to start one, he said.
He said that to us the other day off camera,
and eighteen he had an opportunity to do it, but
the game was in was in Washington and Max Scherzer

(06:46):
was on the team, and so Max Scherzer got their start,
and Jacob was like, I totally get it. Yep, he
wasn't upset about it. If he pitched the second inning
and then everybody remembers how he came into the I
think it was the sixteen game. No, sixteen was San Diego,
so it would have been the seven the game in
fifteen think anyway, because Bruce Bochi was the manager of

(07:11):
the National League team, and so de Grom goes in
and strikes out the side on nine pitch, on ten pitches,
he almost had an immaculate any wow, And so that's
kind of that's Bruce Bochi's first real memory of Jacob
de Grom. Yeah, was that that performance there? Pretty good one. Yeah, look,
the guy's totally an All Star and uh is probably

(07:34):
going to be again as long as he stays healthy. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
Well, and it was interesting I saw on the socials
I think it was the Rangers ran around and asked
a bunch of opposing player all stars what's it like
to face Jacob de Grom, And their responses were exactly
what you think. But, uh, you know, best player on
the planet, comfortably, uncomfortable, excruciating, you know, we're some of

(08:00):
the things. Nobody said, Oh it's great, Oh, it's a
day at the beach. I mean, everybody said, this guy's unbelievable.
He was literally called by one or two of them
the best pitcher on the planet, which we've also heard,
we've said, we agree, we've heard it from Jonaheim. I mean,
I think even to this day, the guy is the

(08:21):
best pitcher on the planet. And you can make a case, Jeff,
he's even better now than he was in seventeen. Was
it seventeen and eighteen that he won the beat?

Speaker 1 (08:29):
In eighteen and nineteen eighteen.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
And nineteen he won the back to back cy youngs.
And he's a little he's a little smarter now, that's
what I mean. He pitches now, right, he doesn't just throw.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah, you know, I think it was twenty one. It
might have been twenty two, twenty one. He had an
ERA for most of the first half underneath one. Yeah,
I think it finished at one toweight he got injured,
you know, but it was it was it. You know,
he was pumping one hundred pretty much every time, every pitch,
every fastball was one hundred miles per hour. He's dialed

(09:00):
that back this year, he said in spring training. Less
is more, and maybe it is, but he's still tinkering
with his mechanics and fighting those things. So but he's great. Yeah,
he's he's he's as advertised and the thing is, you know,
this is his bounce back year, his comeback year. They're

(09:21):
you're giving grace in these years and they don't expect
a lot, So theoretically he could get better as as
this goes on.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
So, uh, the first question in the show was about
Nathan Valdi and our thoughts on him not being there.
Let's first go to our colleague Abby Jones, who is
in Atlanta, and she caught up with one Jacob de
Gram to give us his thoughts on Evo not being there.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Irritation.

Speaker 6 (09:54):
You know that everybody's just kind of feeding off each other.
You know the season Evo's having. You know, honestly he
should be peer at this and you know we're just
kind of feeding off each other. And Jack Kumar have
stepped out done a nice job. You know, Patrick's done
a great job, and it's just you know, trying to
pick up where the other guy left off, and it's

(10:15):
go out there, try to have quick innings and let
the offense get back in and try to put a run.
So as a staff, not trying to do too much.
One pitch out of time and go from there.

Speaker 5 (10:27):
Yeah, I mean, obviously he thinks Evo should be there.
We think it, and most fans think it. Most I
mean even you know, not just Ranger fans.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Jeff.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
The guy's only five innings away from being a qualifier.
So if you're gonna say, well, he's not a qualifier, well, hell,
neither is Misroski. Now granted, that's the other league. It's
not like he took a spot away from Nathan Evaldi,
but five starts compared to what Nathan Valdi did is
is nothing. Now, I just can't believe when did you

(10:59):
say the vote was the player vote?

Speaker 1 (11:01):
It ended? It ended in late June, because I remember
distinctly seeing it on the signs and the whiteboards in Baltimore,
and and then that Friday coming home from Baltimore, turning
your player votes.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Right, So at that point, miss Rowsky only had three
or maybe four at the most starts.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
He had started against schemes in Well, the Rangers were
in Baltimore and a couple of guys commented on it,
and they they recognize that he's really, really good. But
of course that's the other league. So the Rangers didn't
vote for him. But you know, I'm not sure if

(11:46):
it's an out of out of sight, out of mind thing.
I don't know what the ballot looked like like. Did
they only give to the players the qualifiers? Maybe that's
what is on there. And I don't know that a
lot of players are gonna put a whole hell of
a lot of research into the no right candidates. Yeah, uh,

(12:07):
it's it's not right. But these things happen all the time.
They do. Unfortunately, there's snubs in every every All Star
game for every sport. And but but this is a
pretty big one for old one point five eight eight.
That's right.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
We got a new nickname for him. I don't know
how long it'll lasts, not very long, at.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Least until his next start.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
We have him won five to eight Nate, as well
as Nate the Great and Nasty Nate and all the
other Big Game Nate, all the other monikers that he has.
J C's in there saying, you know, baseball is the
only All Star game that's still acceptable to watch, and
I agree, I mean, especially if you're one of your
guys is. But it's a it's gonna be a good
game tonight.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
You know.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
You see a lot of great talent and a lot
of great pitching. Obviously, the starting pitchers Trek Skooble, you know, obviously,
and it is just such a fun guy to watch
as his Paul schemes. I mean, that's gonna be a
fun sure, fun starting matchup. Sure, and that's it for
one inning. But everybody they said it. I just saw

(13:09):
on Twitter that Dave Roberts said he's starting Kersh in
the second inning. Okay, well good, and then he said
I'm gonna give him two outs and then put.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
The Padres guy in there.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
So I don't know if that's a little slap at
the Podres, but Dave Roberts embraces this thing. And it's
who knows if it's Clayton Kershaw's. It's likely Clayton Kershaw's
last All Star game. He was a Legends pick or
whatever the heck the commissioner calls it. He doesn't offer
one of those every year. But yeah, I mean, I

(13:42):
imagine Clayton Kershaw's He's still got enough juice left in
him to get fired up for these All Stars.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
I bet. And and you know, if you're gonna let's
go back to this the miss here for a second.
If if you're you know, if if MLB wants certain
guys in the game like they do with Kershaw. Yeah,
and they have the legends exception. Why not why not
a rookie from every league, one rookie from every league?

(14:09):
And if if that guy gets voted in like Jacob
Wilson did for the A's, then you go to the
next guy. Okay, and how about uh a utility spot?
You know, right, I think that's that's a pretty good one.
You know, Josh Smith. The reason Josh Smith isn't in
the game as a as an alternate is because he
was on the ballot as an outfielder. You know what, what,
how do.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
You play about ten games maybe in the outfield that maybe?

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Yeah, so I think I think that that's that's something else.
You know, they're they're going toward the utility, gold glove, utility,
silver slugger. Do a utility absolutely, and he may not
have he may not have been the guy. You know,
uh what what is a mckistry from the Tigers ended
up making the team. He's a guy who plays a

(14:54):
lot of positions. Dylan Moore for for the for the
Marin the former Rangers draft choice. So and there are
guys around the league like that. So, I don't know,
there are ways to do it, but of allD not
being on, there's a pretty a pretty bad it's a
pretty bad job by the players.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
It's fairly egregious. But as Jeff said, you know a
lot of times, I mean when it was all player,
all fan vote, it was even worse. Right, it was
a popularity contest and a lot of it had to
do with the popularity of a Player of the year
before and consequently you didn't get the best guys on there.
So anyway, that's been rectified. Some still should be a

(15:34):
fun game tonight and hopefully a Midsummer classic. More coming
up as we continue on this All Star Game day,
and we're going to talk about the draft, a new
entry in All Star festivities. But the draft is done,
let's talk about how the Rangers did in more. Next,
it's the DLS Rangers Podcast.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Folks. It's it's time for you to get some new floors.
Ours are holding up pretty well. It hasn't been a
year yet here in the studio. Oh it looks great. Yeah. Yeah.
The Wilson's need new floors. And when we get him,
we're going to empire. Tooday dot Com the og d
lls sponsor. We love them. We appreciate him, and they
love you too because they want to give you the

(16:17):
home field advantage and they want to give you three
hundred and fifty dollars off your first purchase of new
floors at Empire tooday dot com slash d ls, so
you schedule the estimate. They're experts. They're flooring experts. That's
all they do. One of their experts is going to
come to your house, probably how to clean the dishes
and pick up some stuff, take the trash out. But

(16:38):
he's coming to your house. She could come to your house.
They're going to help you match your floors with the furniture,
go through the variety of choices and prices and by
gum if you want. In many cases they can start
the next day. So again empiredoday dot com slash DLLs
for three hundred and fifty dollars off your new floors.

Speaker 5 (16:56):
So there's three things we know that humidity does. Humidity
makes wooden doors and windows expand, so they'll stick. You
sometimes have to kick the door open because the wood
has expanded. They'll make curly haired people's hair frizz. Humidity
will and humidity will make your crotch as it is swampy.

(17:20):
It'll make it swampy. It'll make it chaf Frankly, crotch
chafing is one of the three. So look it up.
Those are the three humidity. It's what they do, what
it does, and you have a solution for all of them.
I don't know about the things in the constitution. Actually
is it in the constitution, So I think it might
be an amendment. Anyway, you have a solution at least,

(17:42):
at least for the crotch, and that's Mando. We encourage
you to get these products and put them on your
crotch or your pits or anywhere else that you feel
like you need them, certainly anywhere that you get chafing.
Mando dot Com DLLs five dollars off the starter pack. Yeah,
I think let's look it up here. Yeah, it is
the constitution. Okay, good, yeah, okay, all right, So Rangers

(18:06):
have what seventeen picks they made?

Speaker 1 (18:08):
What it was yesterday? Twenty overall they made seventeen seventeen
yesterday on the last day of the draft.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
Okay, so twenty yeah, good, yeah, I mean yeah, yeah.
I saw Kip facts that he intends to sign all
of them. I saw last year, they only didn't sign three, yeah,
of their players, so they that's the goal. Yeah, and
that's part of it.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
You know, you you don't want to waste your time
and energy on a guy, you know, and you know,
draft him and then not get the deal done. And sure,
sometimes there's there's a risk and you know, they know
that they're not going to sign them, but they take
him anyway and maybe they can talk them into it.
But it was a pretty straightforward draft I thought, as

(18:51):
far as them taking guys, you know, they they for instance,
you know, you'll and we talked about it yesterday, in
a draft, you'll see a guy seventh round senior from
Georgia Southern. It's like, oh, they drafted him because they're
only going to sign him for one thousand dollars. Yeah,

(19:11):
they're going to use that money on the slot savings
somewhere else. They did that with their tenth round pick.
I thought, kid from Central Missouri. I believe it was
a picture. And but the rest of the guys are
pretty straightforward. And you know, the curious thing. A couple
of curiosities are interesting notes. They signed two players with

(19:31):
Metroplex ties, Ben Abelt, who went to TCU, but he's
from McKinney, left hander. In the fifth round, and then
in the ninth round, we were trying to figure out
how he says his name, Owen, I gotta think about
that Prooks Proch Prooks. So he explained it was Brooke

(19:54):
but with a p so Prook and then you add
the Sehn Prooks. He's from Duke, but he grew up
in South Lake and went to South Lake.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Carolin born in born.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
In Wisconsin and Brewers fan, but now he's a big
time Rangers fan because they're signing his paycheck of course.
So anyway, so the two local guys now A Belt
was one of four guys who either just got out
of Tommy John or are in the midst of recovering
from Tommy John. A. J. Russell the first round, the

(20:27):
second rounder from Tennessee. He had the Tommy John brace
deal last June and pitched for the volunteers this year
twenty five innings. A Belt went down right before the
start of this season, so he had the surgery. Meister
did it, and he'll start throwing next month, he said.

(20:47):
And then the fourth rounder, Mason McConaughey from Nebraska, and
the eighteenth rounder Julius Sanchez from Illinois, all guys who
are recovering from Tommy John. So why on earth would
they do that? You ask, Yeah, and it's a fair
it's a fair question because the Rangers did it twice
last year. They have a history of doing it at
other times too. You kind of a and this is

(21:12):
being very cynical, but hey, they got there Tommy John
out of the way. Yeah, that's hey, you know they
got it out of the way. Uh So then, uh,
the the other part to that is the you know,
these guys were would have gone higher in the draft
had they been healthy, Like if Russell had had a
health hadn't had Tommy John and had had a full

(21:33):
healthy season. The Rangers think he's like one of the
top ten or fifteen guys in the whole draft. Yeah,
and and Abel was a preseason All American. He was
moving to the rotation for TCU, and you know, he
probably would have gone higher than the fifth round. And
then I would assume the same for the McConaughey kid
or Nebraska. So they think they feel like they're getting
some value out of it. They trust their their rehab

(21:57):
staff and player development staff. I mean Comstock the former
major league pitcher. He's been there, he's been their rehab
coordinator forever, and so he hangs out in Arizona in
the sun and gets these guys up every day because
it's monotonous and it's tough, and they've had the success stories,
you know of guys who have come back from Tommy

(22:18):
John and pitch really, really well. So they feel good
about these picks and the chances going forward that these
guys will be productive players and you know, either get
traded or pitch for the major league.

Speaker 5 (22:31):
Sure, and fifteen twenty or certainly before that years ago,
you'd be like, what, Yeah, you drafted a guy who's
had Tommy John or who you know, whatever.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
The reality is they all.

Speaker 5 (22:44):
Have or will have Tommy John. Now that's just the
reality of the game today. So like you say, you
might as well have a guy who's gotten it out
of the way.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Now.

Speaker 5 (22:53):
You know, the top two pitchers in the Rangers organization
have both had it twice. That's you know, Jacob de
Gram and Nathan of All. Evo's last one I think
was like nine years ago. Yeah, and he's had some
of his best success since. And he had success before
it before a second one, but he has had some
of his best success since.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Yeah, Kamara Rocker, Yeah, yeah, Cody Bradford is having it now.
And it's not it's not always these guys that are
trying to throw it through a wall. I mean, Cody Bradford,
God bless him, throws about ninety one. Yeah, you know,
it's just it's just bad luck, is all it is.
It's and and it's it's putting the arm through a
motion that is not natural, you know. You know, you

(23:34):
see these college softball players and now I guess professional
softball players. They can throw every day because they're throwing underhand.
It's natural. Yeah, I mean, and there's a lot of
power and whip and everything that goes into it, so
it's not like they're just lofting it in there. But
it's not. It's the natural movement of the arm, whereas
the arm's not built to do what these arms are

(23:57):
doing these days. So you know, don't be surprised. You know.
We Alejandro Rosario, who is a due to have Tommy
John surgery just any day now. Apparently for the last
six months, you know, he was thrown ninety eight with
a nasty slider Tommy John surgery. Yeah, you know, it's
just gonna happen to a lot of guys, and so

(24:17):
these these four have gotten it out of the way.
So yep, hey, hats off to them, step ahead of
the game.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
To your point about the All Star thing, you know
that that young gal from Texas Tech who they they
gave a million dollars to come over there Tech did
and from Stanford, Uh, she actually uh did pitch every day,
every game, every step of the way. But then when
she got to the final game against Texas, it did
seem Now again, it's not.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Like she blew her elbow out. Yeah, she's just tired, right, Yeah,
she was fatigued.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
But yeah, pretty much you can throw every day with
that natural motion and it's not you know, we talked
about yesterday how it's the new spin rates and all
those things. Look, I mean, it's an unnatural move to
throw up, to have your arm and your shoul and
your elbow throw a ball that hard. It's it's not
natural for the body to do that.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Yeah, and then when you do things even more unnatural
like yeah, over pronating on a sweeper right or going
the other way with a with a power curveball, slash
almost a screwball. Yeah, you know, it's just adding more
wear and tear because those are power pitches. I mean,
the sweeper may only come in at eighty four, eighty two, eighty,

(25:28):
you know, somewhere in the eighties, but you're throwing it
with the intent of making it do something powerful like
dive out of the strike zone by three feet. Yeah. Yeah,
So it's it's interesting to hear Keith Meiser talk about it.
And again we got to get Keith on Yes, I
mean it sounds like you though he's operating on guys daily. Yeah,

(25:50):
he's a busy guy ten times a day from yeah,
seven am.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
Pretty much does anybody in Major League Baseball and even
major college.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
Well he did. He did Ben a Belt, and he
did McConaughey. Yeah, and he did Brock Purdy, the forty
nine ers quarterback. Yeah, for crying out loud. I mean
he is, he's one a you know, the Dodgers doctor
Ela trace Is is also a leading guy. But you're
talking about a world renowned guy. Sure who works for

(26:24):
the Rangers or they keep him on retainer or whatever
it is, however it works. Yeah, I'm sure he makes
his money off of them just fine.

Speaker 5 (26:31):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he's not hurt. And I'll tell
you that my son had acl surgery at his place.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
And so we were there a lot. And yeah, he's.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
Got a he's got a really good setup there in
the one in Arlington. I think he's added a few
more too.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
There's one, there's one in Mansfield, and I think there's
one in.

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Like out north somewhere, Yeah, somewhere like that.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:54):
So anyway, yeah, the Rangers are really blessed to have
a guy like that here because you know, then it's
it's really easy for everybody to do their rehab right
there at one of his facilities. So yeah, but anyway,
so it was a good draft the Ranger. We said
yesterday that the that the Rangers, you know, president of
Baseball Operations, is of mind to never do you have

(27:18):
enough pitching?

Speaker 1 (27:19):
Right?

Speaker 5 (27:20):
And what did they take? Eleven or twelve? They took
a lot of pitchers, pitchers. I think they took at
least eleven, maybe twelve of the twenty were pitchers. They're
just you know, they're going to do that. That's the
that's the way they go. I was a little surprised,
if I if I read it all correctly, Jeff. They
never did dabble in catcher.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
They no, but they have signed they've signed a guy,
an undrafted free agent from from cal Poly, Okay, and
you can you can do that. That's something that was
new in the twenty twenty draft after they were reduced

(27:59):
at so sgnificantly in rounds, and they've maintained that you
can sign those guys up to one hundred and fifty
thousand dollars. And so sometimes it's better for the player, sure, yeah,
to not get drafted, not get.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
Although I thought I read an MLB today that your
allotment is only for your first ten rounds.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
Yeah, and then you have that one.

Speaker 5 (28:22):
Hundred and fifty available to anybody after ten unless there's
more money left in the allotment, and then you can
give some of that. Yeah that there are some tricks
and such and you know, but you can't there's a
certain number. You also can't go over total from from
eleven to twenty. Oh yeah, I thought, And so it's

(28:45):
it's it's a there's just a lot about the draft
that a lot of people don't know, including me, right,
So it's changing, Yeah, yeah, it's changed drastically lately.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
So yeah. I mean, it's not forty rounds anymore. It's twenty,
you know, and it's just crazy, crazy stuff. So let's
see Russell count Owens, he's a two way player, was
a pitcher, right, McConaughey, a belt, c Ai goddamnit, pro

(29:16):
Rooks Brooks, Brooks, Prooks, McReynolds. Jacob Johnson from Pearl River
Community College. That sounds cool, Jake Barbie high school kid,
Aiden Robertson from Walter State which is where Brett Martin
and Cole Drake went to college. Then Land and Mansie, Okay, Jackson, Grossman,

(29:42):
Julius Sanchez, Corey looks like ginzer so that looked like fourteen.
So that's a lot of twenty. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (29:51):
And again that's the way that Chris Young anyway rolls,
and it really is and he's probably right. Uh, it's
generally correct. You know, you have more need for pictures
than which is amazing because it's one spot. But again,
it's half your team, right between the starters and the relievers.

(30:13):
It's it's exactly half of your roster. So you know,
in this day and age, you need that many in
order to have enough, and especially with every one of them,
at some point needing a year off for Tommy John surgery.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
So one catcher, Noah Franklin, a prep from Florida. Okay, good,
all right, and mcjowers, you'll forget we had a beast
international signing class. I've heard that the next signing class,
if all, if everybody stays together, is going to is
going to be one of the best ones in Rangers history.
The next international next one, So twenty six okay, I've

(30:49):
heard twenty sevens looking pretty good too. So and yes
they are. They are already scouting kids for who are
twelve years old? Geez, And so they're they're talking twenty
thirty one in twenty thirty two. It's it's a it's
a heck of a deal down there. But I'm really
looking forward to seeing what comes out of this next class.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
All right, we are looking forward to that. We're looking
forward to tonight's game. Last night was fun too. Our
own Abby Jones, as we mentioned, is there and she
was a significant player in the home run derby. We'll
talk about yeah and her involvement next on the DLS
Rangers podcast.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Oh but first we got we gotta do some game
time in here. Yeah, I know, that this is John
Stayered app. His best friend is Nicole with game Time.
You know on the sports scene. The Rangers open up
here the second half with nine home games. They do
first three or against the Tigers on the twentieth, it's
the Sunday night baseball game. That's the Scoobal game. And

(31:51):
there was speculation last night during the home run derby
that that was the game of WALDI was going to start.
Plenty of tickets available on game Time where you can
download the app, you find the game or concert or
comedy show or play you want to go see, and
the seat chart pops up. It has the prices, that's

(32:12):
the all in pricing. You hover your little cursor over
it and you get to see the view. I mean,
game Time really does have it all. It's one stop shopping,
our favorite secondary market. So download the game Time app,
use the codls on your first purchase, and you get
twenty dollars off.

Speaker 5 (32:30):
So the Rangers immediate future is so bright they gotta
wear shady rays. Actually I don't even know if that's true,
but anytime you can get a line from Tim Buck
three into the show Tim Buck three, what a great
band name. Anyway, Shady rays. If the Rangers were wearing
shades because their future was bright, they'd be wearing Shady rays.

(32:52):
You should too. They're my favorites. That's my latest pair
of Shady Rays. I'm in the market for another. It'll
be my third.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
If you go to a Shady rays dot com and
use the code DL unless you get thirty five percent
off the relatively low price of these Shady rays. And uh,
they are basically forever glasses because they'll fix them or
replace them if anything goes wrong with them. So there's
no reason not to go ahead and get you a

(33:22):
pair of Shady rays. Tons of colors, tons of sizes,
tons of looks.

Speaker 6 (33:28):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (33:28):
I think you're gonna love them. Shady rays dot Com.
All right, So Abby's there yesterday and that's actually I
don't know if we mentioned it when the when we
did the de Gram interview, but that was her interviewing
Jacob de Gram.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
She's kind of been we mentioned it. Oh okay, good.

Speaker 5 (33:43):
There's only one uh, only one Ranger there, so Abby's
kind of just following him around. She's part of the
family this week. But anyway, uh it it uh, you know,
it's such a fun week. Three days I guess four days,
depending on I mean, they've made it a week in
the city like it was here last year. But in

(34:07):
any event, it's a fun three or four days. There's
a lot of activities, a lot of fanfare. Of course,
for me, one of the biggest has always been Jeff
the home run derby Well, and that last night happened, and.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
Abby was there.

Speaker 5 (34:25):
And let's look at the picture first, Ryan, if you
don't mind. So Abby's up there just minding her own business,
doing her work in the auxiliary press area, and one
of cal Raley's home run balls hit. You see the
dent in her computer. It hit Abby's computer, So she
needs a new computer. I hope she asked Cal for it.

(34:47):
Actually we know she didn't, and we'll show you that
in a minute. But anyway, I love that picture. She
gave him the ball and did it's probably the only
home run derby ball that he got back.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
It might be, yeah, you know, and it was very
of course, of course you're going to give it back.
You're not going to hould him up for ransom as
a as a media member. I mean I might said, hey,
cal My, my computer needs some repair, a new computer.
How much did you just win for winning this thing.
Yeah right, here's my Venmo buddy. But I think that

(35:23):
that was pretty cool, and you know, just her opportunity
to give him the ball. He seemed very appreciative, and uh,
you know another memento from well, it was a huge deal,
you know, and it wasn't just him out there by himself.
It was his dad throwing him the VP. This dad
was money man and then his brother was catching yea.
So it's a pretty cool like a teen year old brother, yeah,

(35:44):
young kid. Yeah, yeah, So I thought that was neat
and uh. The one the one issue though, I take
with this is that he advanced to the second round.
He tied with Brent Rooker from the A's and stack
cast apparently or some measuring device says that he hit

(36:05):
it like an inch further than Brent Rooker for four
hunder seventy one feet and six inches and Rooker was
like four inches or something. It was ridiculous. Make him
swing it off, right, make him swing hit a homer
to advance? Uh, And I think I think Brent Rooker
was a little upset by it. I saw a headline,
I didn't read the story, but I think though that

(36:30):
MLB got the story they wanted. The guy who has
leads the majors in home runs bomb and is uh,
you know, on pace to break Mickey Mantle's record for
a switch hitter and is an MVP candidate and a
good just a good dude and a good story with
a great nickname, Big Dumper. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so Dumper.
I think it was a good story. I liked, you know.

(36:52):
O'Neil Cruz was pretty impressive like that. Yeah yeah. And
Junior Ca Camonaro from the Rays, who was the runner up.
He's a heck of a player. Man.

Speaker 5 (37:05):
He had one robbed you may have seen by an
overzealous no And actually, as it turns out I saw
today they gave him credit for that home run, right
even though some you know kid out there ball boy,
I think he was actually the son of the official
score in Atlanta. Oh really yeah, so he's that kid,
that guy's son. And anyway, he went up and he

(37:28):
made a nice catch. He robbed him of a home run.
I guess back in the day somebody else got robbed
and they didn't count. Oh really yeah, And now they
they say, if it was going to be a home run,
we still count it, and how much fun for that
kid to be on He was like the highlight on
ESPN and all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
Last night there was one of the kids who like
he did it, and the kid was going like this
like what are you doing? Yeah, yeah, I don't blame him.

Speaker 5 (37:53):
I don't blame him, but I don't blame the kid
for trying to make a shit I would have done.
I'd have tried to do like the Gary Matthews thing. Man,
I'd have been climbing wall if I'm out there. So anyway,
you know, it's relatively fun now you know some of
the people and look, I don't know if you know.
So Rooker was doubly upset because I just happened to
see on the on the tweet this morning that some

(38:16):
guy says, really, Rooker, you got to feed your baby.
We need you to play baseball. I'm like, shut up,
And he was too. He's like, yeah, yeah, at ten
o'clock at night or whatever it was, my baby needed
a bottle, you know, like, just shut up, dude. He's
you know, faceless people on social media. And by the way,

(38:39):
who cares if he wins the home run derby or not?
I mean, held may but you as a fan, shouldn't
care not that much.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
People take a shot at the guy. People the unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (38:54):
What were the other things I wanted to Oh, and
you know the kid, the one thing about the uh,
the home run Derby. They interviewed the whole Raleigh family afterwards,
but the fifteen year old brother, They said, well, what
are you going to get out of this? You know
you did a nice job back there, and he said, well,
I'm fifteen. I'm hoping he'll give me a car, maybe

(39:15):
a truck.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
I thought they won a cart. They yeah, that's right.
They did use to.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
My brother used to. My brother used to give that
thing away. Work for GM at the time. But uh, anyway,
so a big night with the home run Derby. Here,
let's show let's show Abby actually giving the ball back
to cal Raleigh's fine.

Speaker 6 (39:38):
I want you to have it. Yeah, the home runs.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
That's very nice. Abby is a sweet person. Go over there,
find him and give him that ball.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
Yeah, instead of saying sign this, you know, sign this
for me. And it brings up the memory of all
Star games and certainly home run Derby's passed. And I
didn't realize that. Actually, I guess it makes sense with
leap years and all that, Jeff, But it was thirteen
years to the day, two thousand and eight that Josh

(40:15):
Hamilton had arguably, I mean, I mean, I'm sure if
it's arguable the best performance in a round in the
home run derby, yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
I think his record has been broken. It was twenty eight.
But where he did it and the c stances, Yeah,
his first All Star Game and then to be embraced
by the Yankees round. Yeah, it was just really cool.
It was the last year of Yankee that Yankee Stadium,

(40:47):
and you know, good and good. It was a good
that was That was my only time to Yankee Stadium
because the Rangers had played there during my honeymoon and
so the All Star Game was there. So I went
to the All Star Game and you know, was in
the old press box and the old tunnels to the
dugouts and all that's all that cool stuff. And then

(41:08):
for Josh to do that, and of course everybody doesn't remember,
you know, we we remember he didn't win the home run.
No Dustin Moore, no from the kids did because poor
old Josh was worn out. But he had Clay Counsel.
I think his name was throwing he's seventy two or
something throwing in batting practice from North Carolina, and I

(41:28):
mean every pitch was perfect and Josh just was crushing
balls and it was just kind of a magical night.
And it was it was looking back, it's like, wow,
I you know, that's something cool that I can tell
my kids. I was at Yeah. I told Henry today.
He was like really, I was like, yeah, so so
did he see like videos of Yeah, yeah, it's pretty cool.

(41:50):
It was. It was a magical night I had.

Speaker 5 (41:54):
I had a chance to interview the the you know
coach has I guess it was his former coach that
was the pitcher that night, and real humble guy, you
no North Carolina guy and a real down to earth guy.

Speaker 1 (42:05):
But boy, he grew that thing. Man.

Speaker 5 (42:07):
He threw it exactly where Josh wanted it. And Josh
knew that. I mean, he knew that coming in, Like
he brought him from North Carolina for a reason.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
Right, And yeah, And those are kind of the cool
things that happened in and all sort in a home
run derby.

Speaker 5 (42:24):
Yeah, and the and the Raleigh family involvement last night
is another right, This is a this is a family
game of family event. And so to have your dad
out there throwing to you and your brother, fifteen year
old brother behind the plate catch and not that you
have to catch that many, but you know.

Speaker 1 (42:43):
Yeah, it's pretty amazing. Forty pitches in three minutes there.
It's rapid fire stuff. So I could see how they'd
worry you out. It really would.

Speaker 5 (42:51):
The five thirteen by O'Neil Cruz is a non Cores
field record, right, so that course field all bets are off, Jeff,
I wonder what the record is at Coors Field, but yeah,
if you at non Core's field, venues five hundred and
thirteen feet is the record by O'Neil Cruz. And did

(43:12):
you see his reaction after that round?

Speaker 1 (43:14):
He was?

Speaker 5 (43:15):
I saw he was really fired up and should be.
I mean, that's I like, regular people don't even know
the feeling like of hitting a ball that well. I
will say this just from you know, being a rank
amateur golfer. But when you pure you know, a drive
or really any shot, but if you pure a drive,

(43:38):
it's a really good feeling. And I'd have to think
and it doesn't hurt, there's no you know, sting, and
I'd have to think. That's how hitting a five hundred
and thirteen foot home run is right like you barely
feel it. It's just like you swung so easy. Nicholas
used to say that in golf farther, I wanted to
go the easier. I swing right right, And I imagine

(43:58):
that's what O'Neil Cruz sort of approach was yesterday.

Speaker 1 (44:02):
Well, it's impressive. I'm sure he's got a win in
him somewhere down the line here. Yeah. I mean, he
hits the ball as hard as anybody, or harder than
anybody in baseball, and so, you know, it seemed it
seemed like, I know, cal Cal might not agree with us,
but because he won it batting left handed primarily, but

(44:22):
it seemed like the right handers had an advantage because
crews didn't didn't advance. Uh, James Wood did not advance,
and they were they were left handed hitters. I think
that you know, poor chestism in his his three homers,
and at least at least the Olsen from the Braves

(44:42):
got hot and made it interesting. But uh, it wasn't.
It wasn't great for lefty hitters, and it wasn't great
for left handed hitters last year. I don't even know
if I think there might have only been one in
the in the one in here in Arlington.

Speaker 5 (44:57):
Yeah, yeah, I saw a meme on the Socials that
says Jazz Chisholm in the All Star and the home
run derby last night, This poor four hundred pound man
that not even the how to swing in a batting
cage somewhere, you know, like those cages at the uh
you know, on the road side.

Speaker 1 (45:15):
And yeah, it was it was bad night.

Speaker 5 (45:22):
Who did Sodo oh Soto hit win five twenty five
five twenty so five twenty not even that? Uh not
even that's significantly much further.

Speaker 1 (45:35):
Uh what one percent?

Speaker 5 (45:37):
Yeah, yeah, maybe that's about what the altitude gives you. No,
thank you for that rising a lot more than that. Yeah,
we appreciate Ryan coming through with that. Uh that was
the That was the talk about the the big time
home run derby. More to talk about as we try
to clean this up. Get to some of your comments.
If you have questions, bring them because on All Stars

(46:00):
our Game Tuesday, there's not a lot in the cleanup segments.

Collection shirts. You see, I've got Jeff and I have
two of the three on the bottom row. I've got
the Nolan Ryan commemorative shirt as he punches Robin Ventura.

(47:18):
And Jeff's got the Dallas versus You All, which is
a pretty damn cool one too. Yeah, and really all
those are great. I saw kg, our buddy from the
MAVs show, was wearing the the MAVs one, and I like,
I may end up getting I'll probably get at least
Jeff the other. Well, I'm gonna get the one you

(47:38):
have and the other two in the in the top
row on the ends.

Speaker 1 (47:43):
I anticipate getting all of them. No, I'm gonna get
the first one on the top row. I like that
the Vegas sign type thing, the MAVs shirt, and then
the Nolan shirt. Yeah, those are all pretty sharp. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (47:57):
So anyway, you go to store dot al citywork dot
com and you can get be a part of this
Dallas collection of shirts. They're pretty cool. We appreciate our guys.
They these come to us from our design crew in
Denver and they do a good job. They consult with
us about what we should commemorate and those types of things.

(48:18):
So anyway, very cool and we want you to do that.
We want you to be a die hard too, don't we, Jeff.

Speaker 1 (48:25):
One hundred percent we do because you get a free
shirt hello, and then for it's only eighty dollars seventy

a diehard is you get to read all of our
stories that are behind the paywall, and most of them
are behind the paywall. My story today I actually posted
late last night about the draft the remainder of the
draft class as behind the paywall. I'm going to be
writing a couple of stories here today that'll be behind

(49:09):
the paywall. So it's important for you to be a fan.
I'm way over the two minutes, by the way, but anyway,
become a diehard at alldls dot com slast joint.

Speaker 5 (49:18):
Yeah, and we went over the two on the new
merch we had to rave and you know, fawn over
the new merchandise. So we hope you'll be as excited
about it as we are. So a couple of things
to talk about in the cleanup segment. First and foremost, Jeff,
that ABS system, you know, I'm looking forward to that.
We'll be in use tonight. Yes, I'm looking.

Speaker 1 (49:38):
Forward to people seeing it who haven't seen it. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (49:42):
Ryan and I were talking before the show. He was
at a spring working in the truck at a spring
training game, and his initial impression was how quick these
decisions are. Right, everybody's so afraid that with this, you know,
automated ball strike system that you know, it's going to
bog down the games, which we all love having been

(50:03):
speeded up, but in spring training it didn't know.

Speaker 1 (50:06):
And you know, you can go to minor league games
also if you want to head down to I think
round Rock has it. I don't think Frisco does. And
it's quick. You know, it's the pitcher, catcher or batter
if they don't like the call, tap their helmet or
tap their head. The umpire comes out, turns on. Mike says,

(50:26):
you know, the batter's challenging the strike call, or the
pitcher's challenging the ball call. Whatever, shows it on the
scoreboard immediately and then the umpire comes and says calls, confirmed, calls,
overturned counts, whatever, and that's it. It takes less than
thirty sevens.

Speaker 5 (50:42):
Yeah, and let me ask you this, I don't know
if I ever did during the spring. Or is it
the umpire on the field right there that gets to decide,
or is he in communicado with somebody in New York.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
They're just watching the scoreboard.

Speaker 5 (50:55):
Just watch just right there as you can see.

Speaker 1 (50:57):
Because they they have the rectangle in the square. And
if it's if it's outside the box, it's a ball.
And I believe it'll say on the screen if I
remember correctly, baller strike. Okay, so, but it is fast
and then the game continues, and and you know, my
my concern about it is, if you have a real

(51:19):
crappy umpire, which pretty much all of them are, you got,
you gotta you gotta cap it. You can't have ten
replays a game, right, You've got to figure out a
way to cap it, because you know, some of these
guys you're gonna be, You're gonna be every batter, every
pitcher is gonna you know, right. Jacob mcgram the other day,
his third pitch of the game against the orioles right

(51:41):
down the middle. Ball he's hitting the head right. Yeah.
And then and then in that same ad bat, the
strike called to strike three to Jackson Holiday, he's gonna
challenge because it it was a ball called a strike.
So you know that's two and one ad bat. Yeah,
it's gonna get out of control if they don't find
a way to limit it. You know, it's kind of

(52:03):
like the replay. Now, Well, actually it's not. You get
two challenges in the minor league, right, you get two.

Speaker 5 (52:10):
Right, and but but don't you get to keep it.
You get to keep it, so you have two forever
if you're right, right, there's always two in the sort
of in your wallet if you're right, But if you're wrong,
you only have one left.

Speaker 1 (52:21):
And then if you're wrong again, you have none. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (52:23):
So it's it's so managers would probably tell people, you know,
tell their guys be judicious with this, right, be damn
sure that that you're because we've only got two of them.
But so the limit is there right now. Although, as
you say, as bad as these umpires are, but if
you keep getting it right though, right, that's the thing,

(52:44):
you know, if the umpires are wrong every time, yeah, guys,
just keep challenging and challenging, and that would I don't
know that it would because you say it's quick. I
don't know that that would slow down the game necessarily,
but it would bog down the game, right, I just
we don't want to sit there every third pitch and
watch the scoreboard. Yep, he's right, it strike you know, yeah,

(53:08):
you know, but you got to make sure. Like like
if you're a pitcher and you're walking guys left and
right and you think one's close, but it's you.

Speaker 1 (53:17):
Gotta you can't be on tilt. You gotta you gotta
be smart about it. And same thing with a hitter.
You know, if you're oh for three and you're going
for the golden sombrero, you gotta make sure you're right.
No what Yeah, just let it go.

Speaker 5 (53:30):
Just take the golden at that point, because yeah, you
you damn sure don't want to challenge it and go, no,
that is your fourth strikeout, sun, go sit down.

Speaker 1 (53:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (53:40):
Yeah, so anyway, it'll if you haven't seen it, I
think you'll enjoy it tonight. Do they have the UH
limit in place tonight? They just so, but I don't know,
two per team up per night, but again, you get
to keep them alive as long as you as a
team are right. You'd think they probab have good good

(54:01):
a good officiating, good umpire crew on the game tonight.

Speaker 1 (54:06):
Maybe Dan i Asonia he's he's the play dump. He's
pretty good. Yeah, he is pretty good.

Speaker 5 (54:10):
Yeah, Yeah, okay, all right, so that's that the ABS
system is working. All About Sports Zone tells us that
Schooble asked Freed if he was okay with him starting
the All Star Game, since Freed is a former pitcher
in Atlanta. Uh, you know again, if if that's I
hadn't heard that, but if that's true, again, it's another

(54:31):
example of Schooball being a pretty good dude.

Speaker 1 (54:33):
Yeah, and you know, recognizing and the moment and respecting
other the other player, and you know, school is still
pretty young. You know, he's he's not a you know,
Freed was a free agent for the first time this
last off season, so he's got more time in the game.

(54:54):
So yeah, that's pretty cool. And I had not seen
that all about and it's good to see you. I
hadn't seen a while there in the chat.

Speaker 5 (54:59):
Yeah I used to be there, and uh, and I
think that it's one of those you know, uh rules,
unwritten rules of baseball that are not a bad thing.
One of them says, you defer to the older guys,
right and in virtually all circumstances. And we probably don't

(55:19):
see that enough in the game today. And uh so
I like that. I think that's kind of an old
school approach there.

Speaker 1 (55:26):
Yeah, the game, the game is changing to where the
rookies have it a little bit easier, and so it's
it's definitely trending in the right way. Uh, you know,
don't have the rookie yeah, not you know, not acknowledging
the rookies and not talking about them and things like that.

(55:47):
They still they still are put in there, know their place,
you know. Uh, they still have the pink pack backpack
that they have to carry to the mound and do
little things like that. But it's not it's not a
it's a lot easier to be a rookie than it
used to be.

Speaker 5 (56:02):
Do they still does anybody still do the dress up
the rookies like the Rangers used to do.

Speaker 1 (56:08):
It wasn't that long ago that they I know, I
don't know that. I don't know if they've stopped or not.
I don't remember, like they have stopped and uh, but
I wasn't on the last road trip last year, but
I don't remember seeing any pictures.

Speaker 5 (56:20):
Yeah, I don't think I saw any pictures either. And
I hate it if they have, because they would they'd
dress them up and they'd make them like get out
of the bus a block or two away from the
airport and make them walk in their get ups uh
to uh to the from the airport, but from the hotel.
And they'd make them walk a couple of blocks in
the in the in the get up to the hotel.

Speaker 1 (56:40):
Now.

Speaker 5 (56:40):
You know, there were times a couple of times I
was on the trip when the last series of the
season was in Oakland, and so they they stay in
San Francisco. So they'd get off the you know, the
bus a couple of blocks from the the hotel there
the west and Saint Francis in oak in San Francisco
and uh, and it they'd blend right in. Nobody even

(57:04):
looked like, oh, yeah, a go, there's a you know,
there's SpongeBob. Yeah, like I mean, it was like it
didn't matter in San Francisco.

Speaker 1 (57:12):
Yeah, everybody's dressed like that. So yeah, yeah, I remember
Adrian Beltrae was last year, so eighteen they were in
Anaheim and then they went to Seattle and he actually
dressed up with the rookies, did he. Yeah. I think
they were cowboy thing or something. It was like a
cowboy or farmer. I kind of remember situation. Yeah, so

(57:34):
he did. It had overalls and it had I remember that.

Speaker 4 (57:38):
You know.

Speaker 5 (57:39):
And Adrian beltra is one of those guys that looks
pretty good in anything anywhere, you know, an amazing uh,
an amazing thing. But yeah, that's that was a fun tradition.

Speaker 1 (57:50):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (57:50):
And it was what's the word harmless, Jeff?

Speaker 1 (57:55):
It was And I don't know, I'll be on the
last road t so hopefully.

Speaker 5 (58:01):
Oh you are on that good good good. Yeah that's
good to know. Yeah, that way we can, oh you know,
have some fun with that, take some pictures of that,
all that kind of stuff. Rangers, of course, don't have
a game today with the All Star Game, nor tomorrow
nor Thursday, but they do have a workout at home
on Thursday, Jeff, as they get ready to start the

(58:22):
unofficial second half of the season with ten days at home.

Speaker 1 (58:27):
Yeah, knock off the rust if you will get the
body back doing baseball stuff and it won't be a
hard workout or anything like that. And I would I
would guess that certain players will be excused from it.
I would I would guess that Jacob Degram is permitted
to not be there because he didn't didn't have a

(58:50):
k Yeah, So anyway, so we'll see how that goes.
A couple couple things here in the chat here that
on the radio they're talking about if the Rangers get
swept by the Tigers, they would make everybody besides the
Grom and Valdi and Langford available, and apparently that includes

(59:10):
Corey Seeger whatever. I don't think that's founded in anything legitimate.
I don't think that the Rangers are going to no
trade their core guys.

Speaker 5 (59:28):
So no, And I did see one earlier about the
possibilities with the Doles, and I still think he's the
one that would be possible. And I've seen some traction
on several sites about the possibilities and the interest in
Adolese Christia. The interest is up a little bit because
he's played well and hit well for the last month

(59:48):
or so, and and the Rangers know they're going to
have a decision about him to make we believe Sebastian
Walcott could be the right fielder of the future, right,
you got to find a spot for this guy. Granted
he hadn't played it yet, but he could be right. So, Okay,
maybe Adules is a candidate, and especially if you can

(01:00:09):
get something decent back for him. But I don't think
any of those other guys in the core are candidates.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
I don't either. And and you know, you know, should
should should they be? No, I don't. You know, they
put this thing together and have structured payrolls going forward
with these guys part of the mix. And it's this,
This isn't a teardown situation. Now, you know, these aren't
guys at the end of their careers, at least in

(01:00:40):
the case of Seeger. And I would say I would
say Simeon too. I mean, I know Simeon's a little
older and everybody was talking about who was showing his
ages earlier on this year, but he looks like this
not lately. Yeah, bring chicken right now. So and another thing,
if the offense is picking up and a dole Scarca
is part of it, and that's the key to your
team getting back into contention. I don't know that they

(01:01:02):
are going to trade him.

Speaker 5 (01:01:04):
Well yeah, no chance, no chance, all right, So that's that.
We're back tomorrow, but it's a later show and it's
a special one as we do our what if show.
