Speaker 5 (00:46):
I had the puns already. The Rangers did fine in
the first round. Nothing could be finer. Then yeah, the
Rangers went over the shortstop class with a fine tooth
comb and then I got the announcement. The release said,
it's pronounced fiend.

Speaker 6 (01:02):
Hmmm.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Still a good pick, Still a fine pick. We talk
about it next. It's the DLLs Rangers Podcast.

Speaker 7 (01:23):
So it's a classic case of.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
Going back to the future for the Texas Rangers, who
in the past have often drafted high school players. Not
in the recent past, however, and of course by drafting
a high school player they are definitely planning on a
longer term future as he develops.

Speaker 7 (01:41):
Hi there and.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Welcome into the All Cities Sports Network studios. Welcome to
the DLLs Rangers Podcast. John Radigan here with Jeff Wilson,
freshly back from Houston. We've got Ryan over there today
and we expect lots of chatting as the Rangers are
even now still busy day two of the draft today.

Speaker 7 (02:02):
None of the MLB.

Speaker 5 (02:03):
Draft, Jeff has the the fan fair as the certainly
not as the NFL.

Speaker 7 (02:08):
None of them have that fan fair.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
But even as the NBA draft, uh, the MLB draft
just to typically in the back in the past, it
went by real quietly. It was the June draft and
people were like, what is that again?

Speaker 7 (02:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:21):
Right, you know, now they try to make a little
bit more an event out of it, which is good. Uh,
but that doesn't mean people are have yet caught onto
you know, the furor Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:33):
You know, I really think when it was in June,
you kind of had two distinct periods for an office,
like we get ready for the draft boom, draft ends
in middle June, then onto the trade dead Yeah. Now
they're doing both. They're swimming, they're swimming uphill, trying to

(02:55):
get things done. And really that's why there aren't a
lot of trades anymore, uh, in early July and in
late June, because teams are so focused on the draft.
And and I think if they had their their brothers,
it would be back to June. Runt office officials. They'll

(03:16):
get an all star break, you know. They they burned
the midnight oil right up until the trade deadline. So,
but it is what it is, and and this year
it's it's only a two round, two day draft, right,
So today's a marathon, although nothing like it used to be. Uh,
but you know, they're going to be busy today. And

(03:37):
I don't think they like the idea of the two
day draft, because that third day you could you could
kind of reconnoiter and and and figure out things to
make calls and and figure out how you want to
go about those last ten picks. And you know, like
the eleventh round pick is always a really important pick
because these are the picks where you have the time

(04:00):
really dive into who's left, make the deals. They're usually
above slot deals, so they're really kind of guys that
you want to take a chance on. It are good
players have left. But anyway, yeah, what the Rangers have
done so far, you know, ask me in four years
how it went right, you know. And that's the thing
about the baseball drum. With rare exceptions like twenty three draft,

(04:22):
which had Langford and Skiings and Dylan Cruise in it,
you're not going to know for a while.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
No, no, very, very seldom do you see guys make
it to the majors as quickly as you know, like
Jeff said, as Schemes or a Langford or you know
Caglione or some of these guys that have made it
very quickly, or you know O'Neil Cruz, those type people.
For the most part, there's at least a couple of
years of development. Even for college player. Evan Carter actually

(04:52):
made it pretty quickly.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
He did, he did, but he had a year that
he was injured. And yeah, anyway, you had interesting Evan
Carter because one of the draft voices, Yeah, very grew
up very nearby Evan Carter. Anyway, Yeah, let's run through them.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
Yeah, so the first round pick is a high school player,
and that's where we're talking about going back to the future.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
Right.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
They used to draft high school players with regularity. Then
they stopped doing that in the mid teens because they
weren't having as much success developing those players. Started taking
college players that started to work out better for the Rangers.
But they take a high school shortstop, one of sixteen
shortstops taken Jeff in the first round of the draft.

Speaker 6 (05:36):
Well, you know, and it was interesting because MLB pipeline
had having listened as a third baseman, which is where
he played a little bit with the team USA eighteen
and Under team. He also played first base, but he
said he and the Rangers very quickly clarified played shortstop
all this season. They look at him as a shortstop.

(05:58):
He wants to stay at shortstop, you know, he's a
fan of the big bodied shortstops. He mentioned bigger specifically,
but yeah, you know, and and the Rangers, I guess
got the sixth prep shortstop in the first twelve picks.
But I don't think they they see him as the twelve,
as the sixth guy on their list. They they valued

(06:21):
him higher than others. You know, the two picks, the
first overall pick, will its even holiday. I think they
were elite talents. But the gip fag and the quotes,
we had him right up there with the So yeah,
of course they're going to say that, but I believe
it because it seems like if that mean you're going

(06:41):
to go, then there's not much difference between them. And
it comes down to personal preference and the Rangers value
exit velocity and apparently the sphend kid can hit the
heck out of the ball and had some of the
best exit vlows in that grouping in in in the
in the draft class.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Yeah, and you know again there it's it's a trend
in a way in Major League Baseball. I think almost
all of the first round was either pitchers or shortstops, right,
and so that that's becoming. Now that said, what is
a shortstop. Well, a shortstop is an athlete, right, and
an athlete can play anywhere, and so you know, I

(07:21):
think that certainly has to be especially I mean, yes, okay,
it could take this kid five or six years to develop,
by which time Corey Seeger is probably not playing shortstop
and may not even be with the club for much longer.
But but you know, he also couldn't move. You know,
right now they're still running Sebastian Walcott a lot at shortstop.

(07:44):
But his future, his major league future, is much closer,
obviously than the fiend kid. So he's got to move.

Speaker 6 (07:53):
Yeah, it's crazy, Uh mentioned Walcott. Walcott's a year older
than yeah. Yeah, yeah, and it has already, you know,
we're talking about him being in the majors. But yeah,
you know, and and when you look at international signing classes,
how many how many short stops get signed? How many
of them stay at shortstop? Not very many, you know.
And the center fielders, they they generally get moved to

(08:15):
the corner in most cases. But you know, I think
a lot of people expect that that Gavin will grow
out of the position, and uh and and move to
third or or or first base as as he did.
But I think that's kind of old, old thinking because
there are so many giant shortstops. The one thing that

(08:36):
I think Gavin doesn't do as well is run as
some of the other shortstops. But that's fine. Cory Seger
doesn't run very well either. But I think that there's
a chance that you're seeing these bigger shortstops. And I
guess cal Ripken was the first one, really was, yeah,
and and but you're seeing them at at the position longer.

(08:58):
Cory Seeker is a big guy. I just don't think
people really when you stand next to him, like he
is a big, big guy. So, but you heard some
of the other details about the shortstops taking ahead of
Gavin and you know, oh, this is the fastest player
in the league. Well, you know, sounds like an outfielder
to me. And I just think, you know, so like

(09:20):
if you know, the the Nationals took the shortstop Willets
from Oklahoma with the first overall pick. They have a
pretty good shortstop CJ Abrams. Who knows what the contractual
situation is going to be, But you know, DJ Abram
shouldn't be worried that he's about to be replaced because
who knows where he ends up or Willets or whatever.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
Yeah, And you know, it's it's interesting because when you
talk about the development or the ascension of those players
to the major league level. You know, Ethan Holliday ends
up going forth to the Colorado Rockies, which is just
such a cool story. Yeah, that's where his dad was,
and I mean really a neat deal. But but his
brother was who with the big club, right, and he was,

(10:02):
but he was first overall. So does that indicate necessarily
that Willitts or Ethan Holiday in this case ascend to
the major leagues more quickly than you know, let's say
a Gavin Fine.

Speaker 6 (10:16):
Well, you know, I think a lot of it depends
on the team situation. The Orioles are are a good
team and Jackson Holiday did nothing but hid in the
minors and he's been a nice player for him this year.
He beat the Rangers on that Monday game and Camden Yards.

(10:37):
But I you know, why would the Rockies Rushan Holiday, right,
because they're not They're not going to be in yours.
The Orioles were in it. You know, Jackson had support
around him in the lineup. Ethan Holiday. If he gets
to the majors in two years, he's going to be
like the only guy.

Speaker 7 (10:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (10:57):
I mean, they just don't have a good team. So
you take your time with him, and then when he's ready,
or when you know you feel like there's no doubt
he's ready, then you make him a major leaguer. So
it'll be interesting to see the timeline that these guys
go on. But if you're a high school guy, I
think you can expect that you're gonna be the money.

Speaker 7 (11:16):
Sure.

Speaker 5 (11:16):
Absolutely, second round the Rangers take with the fifty seven.
Pick a fifty second, I should say they take a
j Russell. He's a right handed pitcher out of the
University of Tennessee who's coming off missing a couple of years.

Speaker 7 (11:29):
Basically Jeff with Tommy Johnson.

Speaker 6 (11:31):
Well really he had the internal brace. Okay, so we
had it in last summer, so June of twenty four,
and he came back real quick. But he didn't pitch
a ton this year for them, I think twenty five
innings at Tennessee. And the Rangers though, look back at

(11:53):
what he did in earlier in twenty four and then
in twenty three too, and they really believe this is
a guy who would have been a top ten, top
fifteen talent had he not had surgery. So they feel
like they got a premium talent, one of the best
talents in the draft at at in the second round.

(12:13):
And and you know, the Rangers have never been shy
about drafting guys with who have had Tommy John surgery
or what is now the brace procedure, because, as it
turns out, their fourth round pick, Mason Montgo, Mason McConaughey
from Nebraska, he had it, had it fifth rounder then

(12:35):
now it fell from TCU, the fifth rounder has had it.
He had the brace procedure too. So I think I
think they look at it a couple of ways. One,
all right, Tommy John's already out of the way, sure,
and they feel good about the successes they've had rehabbing
their Tommy John guys. Uh, you know, and they love

(12:58):
Keith Comstock there in Arizona, who leads kind of the
the rehab program and uh playing uh Pichardo, who's who's
very very good, and they do all the studies and
very proactive on getting these guys back. And so you
can look at you can go look they can grom
had Tommy John surgery twice but he he had it

(13:19):
with the Rangers and he's doing great. Cole Reagan's obviously
the first one didn't hold, it didn't didn't take, But
second one sure has. Yeah, he's you know, he's a
he's injured now, but it's not his elbow, so they're
there are Those are just two examples. But they've had
so many guys coming back from Kamara Rocker, yeah, you know,

(13:41):
I mean that's uh. Cole Wynn hasn't had it. They
had that that group of guys that did h Mason
Englert and and and Owen White from that same draft
class in eighteen. They've both ended up pitching in the
major leagues. So the Rangers feel good about chances that
these guys will come through the proof.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
We think Alejandro Rosario has made some point. We don't
I'm not sure about that, but forty seven run is right.
There's two kinds of pitchers in Major League Baseball, those
who have had Tommy John surgery and those who will
I mean a little overstated, but in this day and age,
when we've you've talked, i know, to Keith Meister about this,

(14:25):
with all the pressure you put on the elbow, with
all the spin right and all that other stuff. Yeah,
you're you're putting very very intense pressure on that elbow,
that ligament, and the result is so many Tommy John surgery.

Speaker 7 (14:40):
So let's talk a.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
Little bit more about the draft picks. Let's talk about
cleaning up, and we'll get to some of the comments
that that discuss cleaning up the first half of the
season for the Rangers. It's all coming next. It's the
DLLs Rangers Podcast.

Speaker 6 (14:57):
Oh Empire Today, my turn. I just looked. They're they're
the best. We love Empire Today. They've been with us
since the start and they've helped our help design our studio,
make it look sharp, and they're going to help you
with your house. They want to give you the home
field advantage, which everybody knows is so critical in sports.

(15:19):
Well it's critical at home too. You don't want to
walk in and see wrecked floors, you know, floors that
look like they're at involved in a crime scene something
like that. If that's the case, that's how bad your
floors look. And you need to call Empire Today today,
set up a free in home estimate. They're going to
come to your house. They're going to help you decide
what you want, what matches the best nail down a price,

(15:43):
and they can start as soon as the next day,
the very next day. What you need to do schedule
that free estimate, go to Empire today dot com slash
dls and you'll get three hundred fifty dollars off your
new floors.

Speaker 5 (15:54):
Hey, any chance you're headed towards Atlanta, maybe just on
a trip going that way.

Speaker 7 (15:59):
Guess what's there? The All Star Game?

Speaker 5 (16:01):
And guess who could get you tickets to the All
Star Game?

Speaker 4 (16:05):
Time?

Speaker 5 (16:06):
Yeah, it's the best secondary market ticket provider out there.
You can get great deals from them. You can know
that there are very few minimal fees, right, It's not
like some of these places where the fees are almost
as much or more than the tickets. And there's guarantees,
not that the All Star Game would be canceled, but

(16:27):
if it was, by God, you'd get your money back.
Game Time would guarantee that they'll show you where your
seat is going to be. And of course they're going
to have tickets to all of the games that the
Rangers have in this what is it, three team I
can't remember, nine or ten game homestand that comes right
after the break so tickets for anything you could possibly want,

(16:50):
including the one I mentioned the other day. Not necessarily
proud that I like this band, but I like the
Google dolls. So twenty dollars off your first purchase with
the code d l LS at game time. All right,
So first we didn't mention the third rounder. That's Josh Owens,
and he's pretty intriguing guy. Yeah, Ryan asked us, you

(17:12):
know earlier, what is what is the position TWP? That's
two way player. I guess they could put s h
o right because it's it's show. He's the American Show. Hey,
Josh wants to pitch and play, and you know the
Rangers are gonna let him.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
Yeah, his dad playing it, played professionally for a long
time and was the coach of the MLB Draft League
team that Josh played on and pitched for. He gets
it up to ninety five. He's six three one eight five.
They say scouting terms here, it's loose, it's projectable, so
there's some more velocity maybe headed headed that way. The

(17:51):
Rangers they feel like it's a legit two way opportunity here.
He he doesn't hit for a ton of power, hasn't,
but the raw power is there. Fag said that they
had some guys in for a workout recently at at
glob blay Field and Owens was posting balls into the
right field seats pretty routinely. Uh you know, he he

(18:11):
He has drawn comparisons to Evan Carter. Know, same height,
same build outfielder, fast, same same not just he's the
same damn road. Yeah, I mean, it's it's pretty crazy.
So I'm guessing Evan knows him or knows of him. Uh.
They obviously they weren't teammates or anything, but willing to

(18:33):
bet when Evan gets back he'll have some have some
thoughts on the pick that we can talk to him.

Speaker 7 (18:39):
So that's it.

Speaker 6 (18:39):
That's a pretty interesting one.

Speaker 5 (18:41):
And so did did Evan go to that Providence Academy
as well?

Speaker 6 (18:44):
No, he did high school?

Speaker 5 (18:46):
Okay, Yeah, so Providence Academy is in Johnson City, Tennis. Uh,
but it uses the same field, the same facility there
in Elizabeth that that that was used by Evan Carter.
So they basically played on the same high school field.
And so yeah, pretty cool. They're from just down the
road from each other. And this kid, this kid's intriguing

(19:07):
and his dad like Jeff said, his dad got to
Triple A with three or four different organizations and then
he's been coaching the kid ever since. And I think
all of those, all of that sort of tutelage has
paid off. I always talked to you know, my son
played on a basketball team for years and years with
a guy who the young man whose dad made it

(19:28):
to actually got a drink of water with the Cleveland
Indians back then. And he was a catcher and he
got called up right around the same time that a
guy named Sandy alomar.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
So.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
And this kid's out of and he was not a
kid anymore. He's a dad now, but he was from Everman, uh,
and he you know, just got there but didn't quite
get there. And all the people, all the other parents
in the basketball team. Yeah, he flamed out in Triple A.
I'm like, do you have any idea how good an
athlete he is to have made it, you know even

(20:05):
I mean he got were a uniform at the major
league levels. So his dad this the point is this
kid's dad a really good player who knows the game.

Speaker 6 (20:14):
Really Yeah, yeah, you know Everman. That was what Ellis
Burks is from, from Everman's and so that's interesting, but
it's so hard, you know it is, and and and
one one point, you know, why why the why the draft?
You know, you're you're drafting eighteen year olds. I mean
the Willet's kid, the first overall pick was seventeen. Yeah,

(20:36):
is seventeen.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
He's the youngest since that gum Ken Griffy Jr. Yeah,
I mean it's it's it's pretty And and then you
know how many high schools in the country play baseball?
I mean twenty, I don't know how many high schools
are there, just say, you know, they all play baseball.
They don't all play football, but they all play. You know,

(20:57):
all these colleges. And it's not just the Division one division,
it's an ai A, it's junior college. It's so you
have such a massive draft pool. You have no idea
who's going to take who. In these mock drafts, you know,
they they don't necessarily consider financial component because you're probably
trying to make slot deals. The Angels who took the

(21:18):
prize everybody with their pick, the Bremner pitcher from UCSB.
Nobody thought he'd go number two overall. But they're probably
going to save a pile of money on him that
they can sprinkle throughout the rest of the draft. That's
a huge component of it all, you know.

Speaker 7 (21:34):
And and.

Speaker 6 (21:37):
So something else to consider. I did, I do want
to go back and look at these mock drafts. How
people did, Yeah, I did. I think a lot of
people did have Ethan Holiday on them. But I think
that's about all anybody's gonna get. Yeah, Mason, you beat
me too at their own prokes. I don't know German
or or wherever he's from. Sounds like it sounds like

(21:58):
a German beer.

Speaker 7 (22:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
Anyway. Ninth rounder left hander from Duke. He became their
Friday starter at one point this year. Made only twelve
starts this season, his first of his career, so it'd
be interesting to see what we hear about him. The
Rangers in the eighth round drafted pitcher from Mississippi State

(22:22):
who he had seventy two strikeouts in fifteen walks. Wow,
but it's kind of like a it seemed like kind
of a swing roll or else. Mississippi State really guards
their picture as well because he didn't have a ton
of deep outings. But see what happens.

Speaker 7 (22:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Rarity has asked a good question of the majority of
the Rangers draftees projected to sign or will some go
to college. You know, I think the Rangers are really
good about getting him signed. And immediately, you know, immediately
Gavin Fiend said, oh, I'm not going to Texas, which
is ironic that he had agreed to play at the
University of Texas out of California, but he's going to

(23:01):
go to a different Texas, the Texas Ranger.

Speaker 7 (23:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (23:03):
I asked him about that and he said, yeah, I'm
going to forego that. Of course he is. Yeah, I mean,
I know, an I all, money's getting ridiculous, not not
five point seven million, and it's not the opportunity and
it's five yet and and you know, again he may
he may go for for less than that, right and

(23:25):
and maybe maybe the Rangers are so high on Russell
and maybe he had some good leverage going back to Tennessee.
Maybe they have to give him a little bit more,
even though he does have a health I'm not sure,
but it's it's it's it's just a big part of
the draft now, especially because every team has a pool
and you can't violate the pool and there are all

(23:46):
these rules and whatnot.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
So it's not like you know it was, I don't know.
And years ago the wow wow West. Yeah, the guy
with the most money wins.

Speaker 6 (23:56):
Yeah, and he could hold out. I mean what did
Strasburg Central nine point nine?

Speaker 5 (24:00):
Yeah, something like that. That was before the pools. But yeah,
and did I see that the Rangers pool is just
over ten million.

Speaker 7 (24:06):
Right yeah?

Speaker 6 (24:07):
Right, yeah, So they've got enough wiggle room and to
get it done. And you know, you'll see guys who
are drafted as you know, a ninth round pick. I don't.
I don't think Proch is a senior, but you know,
see all these names and then you see like a
college senior in the top ten. Well, he's going to
get about five thousand dollars, is that?

Speaker 7 (24:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (24:27):
And that's just so that's a straight money pick to
save money for for somebody else down the road. And
I haven't looked to see if the Rangers have any
of them. I think I think they have. I don't
think they've taken a senior yet. But sometimes you take
a guy who is a little you know, rated, a
little bit lower, take him a little bit higher, and
I'm like, we're going to take you here with this

(24:48):
is money you're gonna get and he's excited and so
he takes it more than you would have gotten. But
it's not as much as plot.

Speaker 5 (24:54):
Sure, absolutely, So you know that's part of the process,
no doubt about it, and that Rangers are already to
answer the question, are good at trying to make sure
they get, you know, as many of these guys signed
as they can. But again you're given almost six to
you know, and again it could he could be a
little underslot. You're given almost six to him, got four
left for everybody else, So you've got to use that sparing.

Speaker 6 (25:15):
Yeah, and I don't remember really the last time they
didn't sign they Brandon Sproute was a kid that ended
up going to Florida who they didn't sign, who was
like a six or seventh round pick. But otherwise they
usually get the top ten guy blocked. Sure, it's the
like the nineteenth rounders. In fact, a nineteenth rounder from

(25:37):
this a couple of years ago. His name was obramcad
or Owen ober Mueller. He was high school kid from Iowa,
left hander. He decided to go to Iowa and the
Phillies took him in the second round yesterday. Okay, So
you know these guys sometimes will bet on themselves and
and win and win, and that's a that's a heck
of a job by him.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
Yeah, good for him to have done that and to win.
And I did see that the Nationals believe they'll get
Willets for a little under the eleven million slot. And
so there's your answer. I mean, the Nationals pool is
obviously much higher if they have to give eleven million
of slots. Says they got to get give eleven million. Yeah,
for the first round pick, first overall pick.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
Well, last year, the slot for Malcolm Moore was two
point nine, I mean two point ninety six. Rangers gave
him three, okay, and then Lighter signed for a little
bit above slot in twenty one, but then Rocker signed
for like two million less, Yeah, more than two million less,

(26:40):
which they then used to get Porter or Brock Porter. Yeah,
Langford signed right on the right at the number. So
you never know, but they work these deals out ahead
of time, and especially when they have the first round pick.
You know, they get to know the families. Fag you know,
went to er with with Bean's parents in February, and

(27:04):
you know, you really get to know the guys and
then you start to work with the advisor and and
you get it, and you get it to the spot
where they want it, and you know, really hard to
turn down that kind of money unless you're out of
place where they're just gonna money whip you with with
n il money. But baseball is just not no, they
don't get it there yet, you know. And the and

(27:25):
the scholarship situation. There a lot of times the nil
money goes to pay the remainder of the tuition, you know.
And yeah, and so I I think that that it's
starting to get a little more of it to become
a little bit more of an issue. But I think
it's for guys later in the draft. These guys at
the top of the draft are not going to turn down.

Speaker 7 (27:44):
So Adam, do you know this? Did so?

Speaker 5 (27:46):
Did Kip fag have deals with four or five different
kids who might have.

Speaker 7 (27:51):
Come to him?

Speaker 5 (27:51):
I think they probably do. Yeah, yeah, okay, and wow,
because the kid knew right away. I mean, it wasn't like, yeah,
he'd have much time to negotiate or yeah.

Speaker 7 (28:02):
And and you know, but it's.

Speaker 6 (28:04):
Interesting because he was asked, what a fairly standard question
to draftees, what did you know about the organization? He's like, well,
I know, they won the World Series and twenty three
and that's a talented team. And then he goes. But
in the last couple of months, I've learned who the
people are and the great people stuff like that. So

(28:24):
this isn't just a you know, stab in the dark,
and sometimes it is. Sometimes it's like, oh, you'll ask
a guy, hey, what was your draft story, Like, well,
you never talked to the Ranger? Yeah, right, right, but
that's going to be a later round. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
These guys guys at the top, they really know and
have targeted. And then in the case of Russell from

(28:46):
Tennessee Rangers, the second round pick last year was Tennessee
Dylan Drylying. So I'm sure that they saw a lot
of them last year pre injury, he pitched at Globalife
Field and one of the college tournaments that they have
and had one of his best outings in college career there.
So they do a lot of homework on these guys.

Speaker 7 (29:04):
They have to, they do.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
It's a big expense and it's the future. And lately,
you know, Jeff just mentioned all the guys that they
have taken lately. You know, so many of them now
are already in the big leagues. Right, it's working for
years and you know you taught you think back to
that twenty fifteen draft when nothing worked right and the

(29:26):
Dylan Tate year and you're just like, oh my gosh,
and the Rangers had their fair share of them. But
lately they haven't had really any of those not complete
bust type drafts.

Speaker 6 (29:39):
Yeah, but and you know you got to hit the
first rounder.

Speaker 7 (29:43):
Yeah, you do.

Speaker 6 (29:44):
It's so important. You're getting a premium and amateur talent.
They're spending a ton of money on them. That's the
one you got to get right. And for a long time,
the Rangers just didn't get them right.

Speaker 5 (29:55):
No, they're getting them right now and hopefully they have
gotten it right with Gavin and the rest of the
guys they've taken in this draft. More coming up as
we continue to talk draft, but we'll also talk first half.
We'll get to your comments, questions, maybe dabble into the
home run derby. It's all coming up. It's the DLLs
Rangers podcast.

Speaker 6 (30:16):
It's Monarch Money time. And you know we've mentioned Monarch
Money for a while now. There are good friends too,
and it's incredible when you have a kid and we're
gonna have two kids and they're in sports. It's incredible
how much money you spend on those sports. And now,
when I was a kid, it was like you paid

(30:37):
the eighty five bucks yeah for your season and that
was it.

Speaker 7 (30:41):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
You know.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
Now you've got individual coaches. I'm not Kenya. This is
the truth about our daughter. I'm embarrassed by it. He
has first space lesson today, had a pitching lesson yesterday,
has a hitting lesson this week. Wow. Yeah, So I
need Monarch money to help sort all this you do.

(31:03):
And Monarch money, they're gonna help you live the life
you want to live, not the life that you're just
scrambling to get by. Hold your head above water. The
Wilson's could use them, and we're gonna look into them.
So get control of your finances with Monarch money. Use
the codls at monarch money dot com in your browser
for half off your first year.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
Yes, and don't forget about my warning of last week.
With all this humidity out there, you got to watch
out for chafing. You just gotta do it. It's gonna
be a problem. It's too hot and it's too humid.
It's not that hot, but the humidity is much higher
than normal and because of all this rain, which is
great and it's a blessing, except for the chafing part.

(31:45):
So through yourself a favor, get your Mando products and
get them in all the places you need them, all
the places that men chafe. I think you know what
those are, and we've told you about them before. So
hit the grundle the taint if you will, you know,
h hit everywhere in that region and use these creams

(32:06):
and these wipes and everything else and the next thing
you know, no chafing, no discomfort, no itch, no smell.
Mando used the coddlls at Mando dot com and get
that starter kit for five dollars off. Okay, so let's
do some of this stuff about the the first half

(32:26):
of the season. And I saw somebody in the chat saying, ah,
got it.

Speaker 7 (32:31):
Sucks.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
Finally get the offense clicking, and now you got to
take five days off.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
I didn't want to touch on the twenty fifteenth draftroke,
Oh yeah quickly, yeah, because it was so awful. Yeah,
Dylan Tate who got traded the next year because they
didn't like the Eric Jenkins, little speedy outfielder. Never I
don't even know you got to Frisco. Hey, the name
Michael Matchuela, who is a big college star from Duke,
but he broke down. Jacob Lemoyne, who I believe was

(32:56):
injured when they drafted him from Houston, Chad Smith, Tyler Ferguson,
Dylan Moore, Dylan Moore who now plays for the Mariners,
Blake Bass and then Pete Fairbanks.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
Oh gosh, who's pretty good. Had a pretty good year round.

Speaker 6 (33:12):
Nine, round n round, but he had to have Tommy
John surgery as well. Eleventh Scott Heineman who made it
to the big leagues. Curtis Terry thirteenth made it to
the big leagues, Tyler Phillips sixteen, I believe it's still
in the big leagues, but not with the Rangers. DeMarcus Evans,
everybody really liked him. He was the twenty fifth rounder.

(33:34):
Jeffrey Springs probably the best one of the draft. Thirtieth
rounder who's pitching for the A's now and had pitched
for the Rays. But guess what, he had Tommy John
surgery last year. So that's an awful draft class.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
No, but you look at owen Port Prokes taken in
the ninth round and you think Pete Fairbanks maybe okay,
well he's lefty, but good.

Speaker 7 (33:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
So anyway, I saw somebody in the chat saying, man,
it sucks that the offense is finally clicking and you
get five days off. It does, but everybody on that
team needs down time, right, They need to relax, because
it's not just the toll that that the major league
season takes on the body, which it takes exacts a

(34:17):
huge toll. But the reality is there has been they
have been putting a lot of pressure on themselves. There
has been a lot of pressure on this team to
figure it out, and they can now just take another
mental break and maybe that continues to help them. Jeff,
just do what they do.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
You know.

Speaker 5 (34:35):
Marcus Simons talked about that, I'm just I'm stopping with
all the minutia and I'm just gonna go do what
I do.

Speaker 6 (34:42):
Yeah, I think I think the Rangers here have also
had kind of a pretty big mental exhaustion. Yes, that's
these losses were just wiping them out, these extra any losses. Yes,
it's sucked and it wore out the bullpen, but people
keep losing those games when you need to win games.

(35:04):
It's tough. So yeah, you know, some of them do
go home. Kamar Rocker said he's gonna go visit his
college roommate, Big Glasses staying here. He said he went
last year, went to Newport Beach with his agent and
came back and didn't feel like he'd gotten any rest,
you know. And then keep in mind, this team has
been on the road for the last ten days. So

(35:24):
Marcus sime and he said, no, I'm going home. I
haven't been home. So he's somewhere here in the Metroplex
with his four four kids and pregnant wife. Oh wow,
how about that?

Speaker 7 (35:34):
Wow? Yeah.

Speaker 6 (35:35):
So anyway, a lot a lot of guys though you
did see scatter about. Uh they you know, headed headed
off to an airplanes somewhere airport. Jake Berger, his daughter
Penelope has a check up in Nashville, so they're headed.
He was headed to Nashville to be with the family.
And so anyway, but the key is, don't go to

(35:57):
the baseball field, try not to think about it. Think
just get get your mind off of the game. And uh,
you know, maybe they're going to work out Thursday, the Rangers.
Maybe that's when you start downing in Maybe you do
think about things that you could have done better and
need to do better, but you know, don't waste a
lot of time on it. No, and and again, this

(36:17):
team is in a good spot. You know, they don't
they don't need to do much more. The offense has
been good. And again, offense is not gonna be there
every day. Starting pitching is not gonna be in there
every day. But if there, if it's there more days
than it's not, then you're in good shape. I know
a lot of people in the bullpen are are not
in the bullpen, in the chat, are wondering about the bullpen.

(36:38):
And and yes, the Rangers want to get some help
for the bullpen. You do get Josh s Boris coming back,
but he's not going to be one hundred percent the
Josh Sporesy was in twenty three playoffs. The velocity is
not there yet and basically he and the Rangers know that.

(36:58):
But still he can be He can be pretty useful.
What do you do with John Gray? Well, right now,
you know you're starting pitching, so it's pretty thin, so
you probably need him as a starter probably, you know,
see what it looks like, See what a veteran looks
like as opposed to Rocker or Lighter, who again have
been good at times and not so good at times.

(37:20):
So you can you get a little more consistent in
the rotation John Gray? Probably? And will they trade for
a closer as as a lot of people are asking,
all right, who are the closers who are out there?
Emmanuel class A potentially, although the Indians, you know, you
never know what they're gonna do. Bednar from the Pirates, right, yeah,

(37:44):
a pirate is always available, right, any pirates availables up
Steens the cat from the Twins. Don whether Ryan and
it's not durant? Is that it's on or something like that.
It might be durant anyway, what about the well the
cards have actually kind of the Cardinals are kind of

(38:05):
a little bit although they're not going to do it,
you know, so Hellsley, you know, probably won't go all right,
So there are their closers and the Rangers afford them.
Remember that teams. The team's also up against the spot
where in the luxury tax. They don't want to go
over the threshold again, So could you see a deal
for a closer in which the Rangers trade somebody who

(38:29):
has a salary kind of a salary swap situation, you
might have to throw in a better prospect, but it's
a situation where that's going to have to be at
the top of their list for consideration. Now you can
also get go find the next Jake Deakman and Sam Dyson,
who in fifteen, the Rangers bullpen was not great and

(38:53):
they had Seohn Tolson who was doing fine, but they
needed help. And those two guys just changed everything they
did in the seventh and eighth. Boy, it was it
was a done deal. So maybe there are some guys
like that. Uh, those two are under control, so but
maybe there's a rental out there. A rental won't cost
you a lot in prospects or salary, so maybe you
can go get a rental and and and overhaul the

(39:14):
bullpen that way. But you know, I don't think the
Rangers are in a position to just go all in
on a guy who's going to walk after this year.
Blake Bryant says he likes Kyle Finnegan, who's on a
one year deal. Native Texan Nationals. Aren't aren't aren't contending?
You know, he was there for the Rangers though in
the offseason, and they didn't do something right. Maybe there's

(39:36):
something they don't like about him, But anyway, I don't
think they're going to stand pat as as Natalie is suggesting.
I think they're going to try to do something. I
just the way they've played in the last three weeks,
not getting blown off the field, being in being pretty
much in every game, I think that that's uh. The

(39:57):
offense has turned the corner. Pabden, Grom and a Baldy
who if you get them in a five game series,
it's gonna be really hard. It's gonna be really hard
to not win this.

Speaker 5 (40:06):
Sure, you know, sure, And if they keep Malle and
if Mally comes back and pitches as he was pitching
prior to being hurt, now you got three plus rocker
and potentially lighter and potentially gray, and you know there's
a lot there's suddenly for a five or seven game series,
there's pitching depth. But that whole thing about exceeding the

(40:29):
threshold that the sell the luxury tax threshold, here's where
it gets dicey. If especially you know, if you're if
you're Ross finscher Maker probably see why more likely trying
to sell Ray Davis on it. Right, If you're knocking
on the door. Man, if you're pounding on the door,
I think it's a pretty easy sell for Ray Davis

(40:49):
to go over. But if you're like, you know, you
see why and you're going, Ray, I really believe, I
really well, you've believed in a lot. I mean, I
can hear him, you know, like Ray is a pretty
I guess he's obviously really astute, sharp businessman. Yeah, and
and he's protective, and so anyway, it's a lot easier,

(41:10):
you know, And and the Range. I don't think the
Rangers have enough time even to be pounding. I suppose
if they win every game coming out of the break,
maybe they're pounding on the door. But I don't think
they have time to pound on the door before the break.

Speaker 6 (41:26):
It's uh, you know. They they open with Detroit, so
that's a tough series. A's should be okay, But the
A's always figured a way to be away needle the
Rangers and then the Braves, who are the Rangers of
the Rangers of the National League. Yeah, not a big disappointment.

(41:46):
Under underachieving, you know, rarities asks about David Robertson. I,
you know, the the Rangers didn't get a Bray a
message from him in the off seat. They inquired, and
there was never any like kind of him and Todd.

(42:07):
They thought that his wife was ready for for him
to retire. You know, they live in Rhode Island of
all places, and kids are getting older, and you know,
it's it's hard going back and forth. Now he is
his own agent. So I don't know if maybe and
and and nobody really seems to know. Has he been

(42:28):
playing catch right, throwing on the side anything like that?
You know, can he crank up the arm if he
hasn't done it for a few months? And do you
want to take that chance? Maybe if he signs for
the minimum, you know, but right, why would he come
out of retirement for the minute of that? So I
don't know that that that's out there or not, but
maybe who knows. Yeah, it'd be nice. I mean he

(42:49):
was a hell of a pitcher for HiMAT Yeah he was.

Speaker 5 (42:50):
And if but if you live in Rhode Island, you
want to leave there in the winter not the summer.
It was like, why the hell am I going to
leave here? There's the ocean, this is beautiful. Yeah, And
I don't know where they live in row, but if
it's Newport. That place is nice. Now, Yeah, that's beautiful.
So anyway, and there's a lot of coastal regions along

(43:12):
there in that smallest state in these United States, Rhode Island.
Man over there along the coast a beautiful place. Yeah,
So who knows if they're gonna I don't think. I'm
like Jeff, I don't think they're gonna stand pat I
mentioned the other day on the show. Guy stopped me
in the street the other day and said, what are
the Rangers going to do with the deadline? And that
was right after they'd won the Friday night game with

(43:34):
a really good performance out of Jack Ledder. I said,
if the trade deadline was this minute, they're buying. I
don't know that they're big buyers. And I feel the
same way at this moment. After the good series and
the good finish to that long road trip and all that,
I feel like, as of this moment, they're buyers. Now
are they going out there and getting you know that

(43:55):
and making that big splash, the you know, the Cole
Hammils splash, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (43:59):
I don't don't think so well, you know, they're just
there are a couple of ways they can go about it.
They can try to add for this year and the
next couple of seasons. You know, that's where a guy
like maybe Mitch Keller from the Pirates comes into play.
You know, any of these young starters who are going
to be made available, who have some control and are good,

(44:19):
but think the Rangers would be interested. So maybe there's
something there. But I think it's a reliever reliever, and
you know, you I think they need a left handed hitter.
And then you know you want to you know, you
got Jack Peterson coming back, and and you know he's

(44:40):
a left handed hitter, but what's he going to come
back like? I don't know, but definitely address the bullpen.
That's number one on the number one on the agenda.
And I would think, honestly that another starter.

Speaker 5 (44:53):
On the list to Yeah, we have to remember who
the president of Baseball Operations is, Chris Young, who told
us in in the off season, right out words, right
out of his mouth, if we had fifteen starting pitchers
who were major League ready, I'd still say we need
more pitching. You know, that's how he feels. He always

(45:14):
feels they need more pitching. And you know what, he's
generally right. Yeah, could have used it in the first half,
and they certainly could have used to close there. Although
let's don't you know, let's don't poop on the bullpen.
It's near the top in baseball right now despite some
of the failures that they've had lately. So anyway, more

(45:35):
coming up as we continue to get you ready for
the All Star break too, but we're also talking draft.
There's some nuggets from the draft and some cleanup from
the season. It's all coming next on the DLS Rangers Podcast.

Speaker 1 (45:48):
Okay, it's Ryan Reynolds. At Midmobile.

Speaker 2 (45:50):

Speaker 5 (46:36):
Hey, we want you to be ready for the fact
that our die hard program is about to be bolstered. Man,
it's about to be We got an internal email and
they're really fired up about some internal changes that were
made that will make the die hard program even better.
They think way better than it is, and so we're

(46:59):
excited to see all those changes that are put into place.
But it's already great to be a diehard. I was
on the site today and I was just looking at
you know, Jeff. When Jeff writes a story, uh that
that everybody has and it's just like the I think
it was the story about the fact that the Gram's
not going to pitch. Yes, that's just out there for

(47:20):
everybody to read it zat see. But when he's out
there getting stuff that other people don't get, which is
so often it's die hard protected, it's die hard only.
So become a diehard get access to all that and
to all the stuff that Tim Cato does for our
MAVs site, and that Sam Nesler does for our Stars,
and Clarence Hill does for our Cowboys. We have so

(47:41):
much good stuff out there, so many good reporters, and
so much experience. There's nobody better in the in the
marketplace for that covers each team as well as we do.

Speaker 6 (47:54):
I agree, and I'll put us up against anybody. And
when you become a diehard, you get a free shirt.
John is modeling the Wings shirt that's his favorite. I
have og Yeah, I have one on underneath my pull up.
Tomorrow we will be debuting. We will be wearing that.
John will be wearing the long awaited shirt that we've

(48:18):
been telling you about. Yeah, that you guys are gonna want.
I'm going to have another new shirt for DLS. So
we got some new merchant dropping tomorrow at storre allsitynetwork
dot com and you want to go there, check it out,
make the purchases. And again, as I always say, it's
a unique way. So support for your favorite team.

Speaker 5 (48:37):
It is and we think we are or if we're not,
we should be your favorite team.

Speaker 7 (48:43):
So here we go.

Speaker 5 (48:45):
Oh, I had this on the show yesterday, but we
didn't quite get to it because we had a lot
to talk about regarding the game. But our buddy Tito
got his two thousandth win yesterday, and you, I'm sure
you weren't on the beat yet. When Terry Francona was
an assistant coach in the in the Raged organization, yeah,

(49:05):
and very well thought of in the Rangers organization. He
always really loved his time here. But he left and
soon after that I think he may have gone great
to Boston and took them to two World Series, you know,
and broke the curse and did so many great things there.
So anyway, he had and you know, amid retirement, right

(49:28):
retired after his time in Cleveland, came back to Cincinnati
this year and he now is one of one of
only two active managers Jeff with two thousand or more wins.

Speaker 6 (49:40):
The other one is some guy named Bochi.

Speaker 5 (49:42):
Yeah, some guy named bochiyeh. And of the guys who
have I think thirteen have gotten to that level, and
ten of them are in the Hall of Fame, and
the other three are Boach, Francona and Dusty who's not
eligible yet.

Speaker 6 (50:00):
Oh yeah, they'll they'll be in the Hall of Fame. Yep,
each of them.

Speaker 5 (50:03):
So now anyway, fun for him, he's a he's a
really fun, funny, affable guy. So you know, I again,
when they're not when the Reds aren't playing the Rangers,
or when the Guardians weren't, or when the Red Sox weren't,
he's the kind of guy you're root for.

Speaker 6 (50:18):
Yeah, and he's kind of guy you'd want to go
out and have a beer with and ball with. And yeah,
he's you know, kind of gravelly voice, not quite like
not like boats. Yeah, the cadence is different. You know,
it's a little faster paced, but they're they're not they're
not separated at birth, but they're they come from the

(50:40):
died in the same wool, Is that it? Yeah, from
the same cloth. Yeah, they're very simp from the same cloth.

Speaker 7 (50:45):
There you go. Yeah. Uh.

Speaker 5 (50:47):
And I will say this yesterday on the broadcast, when
they were getting ready for the seventh inning stretch, Dave said, now,
the only man, Dave Raymond, This was on the broadcast
just now, the only man with a deeper voice than
Bruce bow G. Here's Bob Ford, the PA announcer for
the there at Houston and Bob. Bob was actually our
booth announcer all those years at Fox.

Speaker 7 (51:09):
Oh really, and so.

Speaker 5 (51:10):
I've known Bob for years. A great guy, you know.
But yeah, he has a set of pipes down here.
He says, you know, now it's time for God bless America.

Speaker 7 (51:19):
You know, it's so deep.

Speaker 5 (51:22):
But anyway, yeah, that's just a quick aside after the
talk of vocal patterns between Harry Francona and Bruce Bochi.
How about Paul Konerko. They had a day to honor Canerico,
you know, the captain of that two thousand and five
World Series team, speaking of the Astros that swept the Astros.

(51:42):
I had a chance to cover that because I was
kind of on the Astros beat when I first got
to Fox. The coverage didn't last very long, just a
game two game trip to Chicago and then it was over.
But anyway, it was it was a fun year in
Houston until it wasn't. Paul, Well, Canerko was the captain
of that team and they're celebrating twenty years and so

(52:04):
they honored Kanerko this weekend at the ballpark and he
got a really really special honor from one of the
fans who was in attendance at Game one of that
World Series back in two thousand and five. Back then
he was known as Reverend Robert something or other. I

(52:25):
can't remember his last name right now. Now you know
him as Pope Leo. And look at that. That's a
he signed that jersey somewhere over there in Rome down
there on the lower left. Pope Leo signed it for Canerico.
And I'm not sure who the priest there is from
Chicago that was able to deliver it to Canerico. But
on his day, look at that big smile he's got

(52:47):
on his face. Pretty cool to be that connected to,
you know, again, one of the guys who's the leader
of one of the largest organizations in the world.

Speaker 6 (52:55):
Yeah, I mean, you know, the pope's the man.

Speaker 7 (53:00):
Yeah, you know.

Speaker 6 (53:00):
And if you're a Catholic and it's a it's the
procedure with the white smoke. Yeah, you know, it's big
news on every ever, leads every news report, yep, every
day during the conclave.

Speaker 7 (53:14):
Conclave.

Speaker 5 (53:15):
Yeah, there's a movie recently made about it.

Speaker 7 (53:17):
We watched it. We watched it. I watched that too.

Speaker 5 (53:20):
Yeah, So anyway, cool for him. Uh, and uh, you
know it just did continue to go. I tell you
there's only one. There's a whole fan base who hates that, though,
and that's the damn Cubby's fans because they all tried
to claim they tried to claim Polplo from Chicago. He's
got to be a Cubs fan, but no he Uh,
his White Sox fandom is now one hundred percent well documented.

(53:44):
A couple of draft notes, Jeff, there were twins drafted
in the first two round. Yeah, did you see this,
Tyson No, Kyson Kyson and Malachi Witherspoon Oklahoma.

Speaker 6 (53:58):
Yeah, yeah, and uh.

Speaker 5 (53:59):
They were drafted fifteen by the Red Sox and sixty
two by none other than the Detroit Tigers. So I'll
be keeping an eye on Malachi Witherspoon, no doubt about
that as he makes his way through the Tigers organization.
But what an amazing thing. They're born fourteen minutes apart
and they're now both, you know, in Major league organization.

Speaker 6 (54:21):
So did Jojo Parker? He was, he was a top
ten pick. Yeah, he has a twin brother. Okay, I
don't know if he has been selected yet either, but okay,
there were two sets of draft twins who were thought
of as really good draft talent.

Speaker 5 (54:38):
Yeah, yeah, that's pretty cool. That's pretty amazing. Yeah yeah,
what is that? And then of course it separates the family.
What do the parents do now, you know, we got
we get to not got to we get to go
watch this kid play, you know, in in paw Tucket
or wherever the Red Sox are, or in Toledo where
the where the Tigers Triple A is so anyway, and

(55:00):
they're going to be a minute those kids before they make.

Speaker 7 (55:02):
It to Triple A.

Speaker 5 (55:03):
Those are decisions they'll have to make down the road.
How about Corona High School in Corona, California. They made
a little history today two or this weekend, they did,
as they had three players for the first time ever
one high school had three players drafted in the first
round barely but Billy Ebble was drafted thirty second by

(55:27):
the Milwaukee Brewers and Billy Carlson. These two were both infielders.
By the way, Billy Carlson was drafted tenth by the
Chicago White Sox and Seth Hernandez, a pitcher was drafted
sixth by the Pittsburgh Pirate.

Speaker 6 (55:46):
Is a pretty stout talent. He's he's sixth overall Yeah, yeah,
he can bring it. He can throw a hundred. He's
going to be a good pitcher.

Speaker 5 (55:57):
There's a chance, and it may have happened. Since there's
a chance, are going to get another player or two
drafted in this draft. And I meant to look it
up and I didn't, But please tell me, and if
you saw this, let me know. Tell me that Corona
High School won a state championship or something. If not,
I hate to say it, And good for you, coach
for for shepherding this talent, but you got to be

(56:18):
a shitty coach.

Speaker 7 (56:19):
I'm just saying.

Speaker 5 (56:20):
If you got three first rounders on a high school
team and you don't win a state championship, do you're
not a very good coach.

Speaker 6 (56:27):
Yeah, yeah, you probably get fired.

Speaker 7 (56:29):
Yeah. I just and and and a fourth kid at
least one one.

Speaker 6 (56:33):
Appears as though they didn't win the championship. They beat
Harvard Westlake, which is another well known baseball power.

Speaker 5 (56:41):
Okay, that's good, Yeah, but they didn't win the state champion.

Speaker 7 (56:44):
Chris, the three first rounders. I don't care how small
the school.

Speaker 5 (56:50):
Is relatively speaking, but I guess maybe if you don't
have pitching, Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 6 (56:55):
Know what do we got here? What do we have here?
A story that shocks me?

Speaker 5 (57:03):
Trying to find out if Corona High School one at
least hope, no, no, Corona did not win it.

Speaker 7 (57:09):
Did they get to the did they say where they where?
They bowed out?

Speaker 5 (57:14):
Hang on, now we're trying to find out if they
at least made it the state semis maybe the quarters.
I know California is a good baseball state, but man,
it's the first high school ever to have three players
selected in the first round. And they've been they have
been drafting baseball players since the sixties.

Speaker 6 (57:33):
So it appears as though they did not win the
state title. Well, sorry, but.

Speaker 5 (57:38):
The kids all get to go play in the well,
they get to play in big league organizations. Who knows it,
they'll make it so uh anyway, and then one other thing,
Slater debrun Jeah did you hear about Slater good hit,
good hitter, good fielder. Uh taken. I'll try to see
exactly where. But a lot of people might know him

(58:00):
better as Lil Slay, Little Slay. He is also here,
he is he is. Orioles took him. Orioles took him
with what pick they took him on? They won so
number thirty seven. Okay, he's the thirty seventh overall pick.

(58:20):
And Lil Slay is also a country music star who's
had songs played on the radio and stuff. Will Slay
Slay is s l a y Why why it's a
country song? No, his songs hang on, they're gonna sound
You're gonna you're gonna like it, You're gonna like the
names of them.

Speaker 7 (58:41):
I'll be done.

Speaker 5 (58:41):
Little Slay's country singles out or break my Heart and
find Me a bar. Parenthetically, and a kid. The kid's eighteen. Parenthetically,
it says, although he reassures us that he does not
like bars and he does not go to bars. I
guess he can't. He's only eighteen years old.

Speaker 6 (58:57):
Does he have gigs? He's gonna have gigs in bars?

Speaker 7 (59:00):
A good point. Yeah he might have. But yeah, he said.

Speaker 5 (59:03):
There's a connection between baseball and and and the music
thing because of the vulnerability, Like you're out there by
yourself if you strike out, you're out there by yourself
with the microphone. So anyway, watch out for a little
sleigh because this is a kid who even if he
can't even if he can't hit the curveball. Jim he
might have a pretty good crow. Is this gonna something

(59:25):
to fall back on? He's got something to fall back on.
I better not play this because we could get in
trouble by MLB. But yeah, we don't look like there
might be some video him singing over there with a
green bat in his hand. Anyway, look him up, little
Sleigh or Slater Debrunn. It appears as a he's got
a he's been graded.

Speaker 7 (59:44):
He's a lefty.

Speaker 5 (59:45):
He's been graded as a fifty five hit tool, a
sixty field and a sixty five run. He's a five
to ten kid speed. He draws comparison chef to Corbyn
Carroll WO, so that's not bad. He's the next Corbyn
Carrol or either the next Blake Shelton. I don't know
which it'll be.

Speaker 6 (01:00:06):
Either one's lucrative.

Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
I think Blake Shelton might cringe at the name. Little
Slick doesn't Blake doesn't Blake Shelton on a show?

Speaker 7 (01:00:15):
Or did he leave that?

Speaker 4 (01:00:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (01:00:16):
No, yeah, he left the voice. He left the voice.

Speaker 5 (01:00:18):
I'm a voice p one not proud of that either,
But you know what, put it out there, John? What
else are you not proud of.

Speaker 4 (01:00:27):
That?

Speaker 6 (01:00:27):
And google the voice. Yeah, and John likes to wear
banana Hammick's at the pool. I don't know, John, Oh
you saw the picture?

Speaker 5 (01:00:37):
No? No, so all right so anyway, Uh, fun day.
