Speaker 2 (00:38):
What me worry?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
I'm not worried. Neither are the Rangers yet. They're coming home.
That's good. The offense, that's not good, but we got answers.
We talk about it next. It's the DLS Rangers podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah, something we all, at.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Least all homeowners are a part of home improvement, and
that is exactly what they'res plan to be a part
of this weekend as they come home now for a
six game homestand against two teams from Los Angeles. And
we welcome you into the DLLs Sports Studios. It's the
DLLs Rangers Podcast. Met John Radgan, Jeff Wilson, Elijah Smith,
(01:16):
the profit over there and the Rangers of course are
off today, and that's okay because basically you could argue
that they were off yesterday and maybe in the day
before and Friday. They have not hit the ball well
at all yet this year. However, several things to consider
about that, Jeff, and we'll get to some more of
the minute numbers and details in a minute. But you know,
(01:39):
first and foremost is just Seattle, right, Yeah, that's all
you need to say. They are what is it, eight
and twenty five.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
It's outrageous, serirageously bad.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Bad bad.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Since twenty twenty they have the lowest winning percentage of
any team at any opponent. Feel so, the White Socks,
who have pretty much been terrible forever have don't have
a worse winning percentage anywhere than what the Rangers do
in Seattle.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
This is weird and it was the assros there for
a while. Yeah, but it was understandable because the Assos
are really good, and it was when the Rangers were
not really good. And now it's kind of evened out.
And I don't know if they include the postseason in that,
so then it's definitely even down a little bit. But yeah,
it's just you just don't have a good feeling when
you go to Seattle. You know it's gonna be a
(02:30):
tough series. You know, the weather's gonna be chilly. I
know it look nice and sunny, but believe me, still
coarm Yeah. So anyway, moving on, get to only have
to go there one more time, I guess this season,
so that's the good news, and try to figure it
out by then.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah, and you know, it's a good point.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
I heard somebody talking about this, that may be MLB
network somewhere that even that series in Seattle at the
end of the twenty three season, right like, all you
need to do is go up there and win, you
win the division.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Oh my, they didn't.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
I mean, they won the game they needed to, They
won the game they needed to in order to ensure
that they'd make the playoffs, but they lost the other
two or was it a four game?
Speaker 4 (03:11):
It was a four game four game Wow. And then
the the last day was one to nothing and it's like,
oh man, Rangers don't score. Yeah, they cramp away the division.
And now they get to hop on a plane for
five and a half hours and go play Tampa. Yeah.
Who was pretty good ninety eight win Tampa team. Yeah,
(03:34):
always good at home. And uh well the rest is history.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yeah, pretty good history, by the way, probably the best
history in Rangers history. So you know already there you
see a question from rarities about a day off for
Marcus Simeon. Yes, so now it's two days off for
Marcus Simeon.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
And it is interesting. We've talked obviously a.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Lot about him, and we talked yesterday the fact that, look,
you can't you don't have an option at the leadoff spot.
Jeff wrote a column about this, right, the options are
very limited to replace him at the leadoff spot. Not
that really the Rangers would consider doing that, especially not
an old school manager like Bruce Bochie. After sixteen games,
(04:20):
that's just not a large enough sample size. When you
look at the back of his baseball card, and if
the back of his baseball card had a month by
month breakdown, it would show March and April are always
terrible months for Marcus Simeon.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Yeah, throughout his career, he's like a two thirty hitter
in the first month, it's not great, you know, and
he's had you know, there's always exceptions. He has a
pretty good month twenty three, had a good first month,
but for the most part, notoriously traditionally and just look
at the career averages, he's a slow starter. Okay, great,
(04:57):
you know you know the root of the problem, you know, Yeah,
maybe maybe figure out a way to get him going sooner. Maybe,
I don't know, playing more in spring training. I don't
know what the answer is, but it shows the statistics
and everything that it's gonna it's gonna improve. You know.
The day off yesterday was strictly one of those uh,
(05:18):
you know, one game off, but you get two days, yeah,
two days and only missing one game. Uh, an old
manager's trick there. And and I'd asked Bruce Bochie, you
know the last instance we're talking about, well, how is
Josh Smith gonna play? And you know, was it still
the manager's intention to give Marcus Simon days off? And
(05:38):
he said yes, So I think that was just a
day off. It maybe it does help, and he was
you know, came while he was in the midst of
a funk, and I'm sure he went about his pregame
work the same and probably went to the cages during
the game and got warmed up in case he was
needed to pinch hit. But watching a game sometimes just
(06:00):
helps guys out, you know, maybe they can instead of
you know, finishing their bat and going to looking at
an iPad or whatever they do, maybe they finish their
bat or watching that bat, not finish their at bat,
but watch somebody's complete at bat and say, hey, that
looked pretty good and maybe maybe that's something I can
do or an approach I could take. So who knows,
(06:21):
but I would expect him to be the leadoff hitter
tomorrow and yeah and going forward.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Yeah, pretty much for the probably for the rest of
the series. He doesn't take that he doesn't want or
take that many days off career wise. In March and
April his OPS is three ninety three. So yeah, in
March and April this year so far, he's at three
eighty seven, so you know, six, I mean, both those
(06:46):
numbers are yikes, you know, yeah, but it's only six
you know, thousands through whatever that is and decimal points
down from from what it normally is. So this isn't
that unusual. Acts His worst season ops wise from March
and April was twenty twenty two, his first season here,
(07:06):
and I kind of remember that where we were all
kind of going, wow, and see, I don't think Seger
got off till you're.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Going to start that year.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Did even hit fifty Yeah, and so we're kind of going, huh,
paid all this money for these guys, Huh, Well turned
out well. But obviously it did, and the Rangers knew
what they were doing, and it turned out as well
as it possibly could have, maybe not in twenty twenty two,
but certainly in twenty twenty three. So you know, that's
but that is the top of the order, right, It's
(07:36):
the table setter. It's the guy that you know, ideally
gets everybody headed in the right direction and sets an
offensive tone for the entire game. So everybody just you know,
keep fingers crossed that Marcus Simeon, you know, finds it
sooner rather than that.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Yeah, And I think the point of what I wrote
yesterday was that a there's there's not a better solution,
But also I said explicitly it's not the biggest problem
with the offense right now. It's the biggest problem is
Jack Peterson. I mean, the Rangers have had guys on
base ahead of him multiple times in the Seattle series,
and you know, he didn't do his job. He didn't produce,
(08:18):
and that's really hard to do the score runs when
the guy in the middle of the lineup is not
is not producing when he's hitting well under one hundred,
and you know, and then you have a doles Garcia
behind well ahead of him now and a Doulas has
been a little streaky, as a Dooles always is. So
(08:39):
I mean there's just some there are guys misfiring throughout
the lineup. Really, if you want to pick a part
of the lineup you feel the best about, it's the
bottom of the lineup, yes, you know, because because him
has been really good, and you know, when Josh Smith
was down there, he was really really good. And Leodi
has been hot and cold too, but done some good things.
You know, you're not expecting your number nine to bat
(09:00):
four fifty, So you know that's probably the spot, the
segment of a lot if you feel the best about
right now.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Yeah, And Jack Peterson was you know, talk to somebody
about it this weekend in Seattle, and not surprisingly, you know,
his thought is, you know, this is a slump the
likes of which I've had many many times in my career. However,
this one is coming at the beginning of the year.
And we always hear that when you slump at the
(09:29):
beginning of the year, or any number, sort of gets
magnified at the beginning of the year because you just
notice it more, you're paying closer attention. But if he
had a stretch like this in mid June, you know,
you might not even really notice. Of course, it depends
on how the team does during that stretch. But you know,
(09:49):
really like, there's no team in the American League that
has more wins than the Rangers, right, the best teams
in the American League all have nine so and the
Rangers are one of them at nine and seven, but
they all have nine wins. So they're doing fine in
spite of all of this.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Yeah, that's just it. They're they're they aren't clicking on
all cylinders. They have had really one game where everything's
gone right. Maybe against the Rays, you could say that.
Maybe the other day against the Cubs. Yeah, I was
gonna say that, but you know, and and here they
are and just doing just fine, you know, and and
(10:31):
could it be better? Sure? Could it be worse? Yeah,
it could be worse, you know. I mean some of
those games against the Red Sox and the Rangers easily
could have lost those. Instead they won three out of four.
And you know, the saying is that good teams know
how to win close games. So I still think thats
are a good team. You know, two weeks hasn't shattered
my belief in that. And you just, you know, and
(10:53):
that's something that you know, through all of our combined years, John,
you learn that a baseball season, it just you just
go through stuff like this and everything turns out just fine.
And the thing is, it's going to happen this month.
It's probably going to happen in June or July. It's
going to happen three or four times in the season
where they just go and have a crappy road trip,
(11:14):
and you know, it's it's what is it? It's you know,
play sixty, well, you're going to play sixty, well, you're
going to play sixty poorly. It's what you do in
the middle forty there. Maybe it's fifty to fifty to fifty,
you know. But the point being, there's still an opportunity
for this team. There's so much time left in the season,
and just you know, you've got to bank on what
(11:36):
you know about about the club and the players and
their history. So you feel pretty good about that.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Yeah, And where you go back to on that is
you go back to what the scouts start at least
they start putting it together, right. It's it all starts
with scouting and the scouts, as we've met, you know,
mentioned a few times with the bullpen this year, it's
a microcosm of this scout did a pretty good job
knowing who was who and what was what just construct
(12:04):
this bullpen on an absolute budget.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Yeah, and that's just it, you know, it's it's always
seems like a budget signing and and uh for the bullpen.
That's just the Rangers history.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
I know.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
Last year is a little different with Robertson for what
wasn't eleven and a half. Chris Martin was their big
expenditure this year at five and a half, so there's
a there's a pretty big difference there. But Kirby Yates
was their best reliever last year. And he was at
four and a half million or four in a quarter
even so it's it's it's scouting it, you know, finding
(12:41):
the right timing on guys hitting them, yeah, when they're
maybe motivated for like a rebound season, or you know,
you see something in the second half of a season,
like they did with Luken Jackson that that attracted them
to him, and and and the but I mean, these
scouts just you know, they scout so much, and then
there's the analytics and everything that's available, and the you
(13:06):
can say a guy could say, boy, if he throws
this pitch more in this count or to these hitters,
it can make him more effective. And then they find
out who they like and measure it up and see
what the money is and juila. But it's generally in
Ranger's history been not an area where they have a
lot of big expenditures. And so you kind of well
(13:28):
look at these bullpens at the start of seasons and
be like, gosh, they're really missing some arms there. And
then you know, twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen, you know, those
are the teams that come to mind, and this thing
turns out okay.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
Sure, and you were you with us yet on the
beat for the Eric gangne I missed that by a year. Yeah, okay,
but that was sort of a classic case of hitting
a guy at the right time.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Again, they weren't planning on keeping him.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
They were planning on hopefully he'll do well and then
we'll try him, which is what they did.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
But that that he's that's.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
A classic example of a guy like that, Like you're
just referencing find and again different circumstances, but finding a
guy and and try and taking a flyer. Scouts think
he's got something and and uh, you do it at
just the right time, and and it pays dividends.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Yeah, and you know, and then.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Interesting, you know, even behind that signing there, there might
have been the intention of trading him, you know when
you don't know like that, and they did and that
was the that was the David Murphy trade. We got
David Murphy. So anyway, but yeah, these these scouts, they know.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
What they're doing.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Yeah, that's the point. It all starts with that and
then it materializes. So lots to talk about stuff in
the chat. We want to talk pitching. We want to
give you an update on Jack Lighter and how he
is progressing. It's all coming up. It's the DLS Rangers
podcast and it is time for us to talk about
(14:57):
our friends at Empire Today. Oh my goodness, they are
so good at doing your flooring. They bring the showroom
to you and that is just fantastic for you because
what they do they come to your house, they take
a picture of the room and or you can take
it on yours and bring it to them either way,
and then they will put superimpose you know, magic of
(15:19):
apps and so forth. They will put that floor a
new floor in that room with your furniture and your
drapes and all that other kind of stuff. So it's
really a worthwhile app. It's really a great company, and
it's something you really want to do this time of
year is get some new floors and get it going
and get that place spruced up. Spring cleaning. What the
(15:40):
heck why not spring flooring. Empire Today has a great
offer for you. They'll come out and do a free
estimate and you'll get three hundred and fifty dollars off
your new floors if you go to Empire tooday dot
com and use the code DLLs. That's Empire Today for
all of your flooring needs.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
You know what.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
My wife, she's on yet another work trip this week,
and she got up early and left, and so I
had to I'm in charge of the kids this week
and had to get had to get them ready to go,
and you know, really got up out of bed, was
feeling pretty good, got a lot of stuff done, and boy,
I could really use a nap.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Hit a wall, didn't I hit a wall?
Speaker 4 (16:21):
And you know what it is, John, Aging?
Speaker 2 (16:24):
It is.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
It's aging. More than that though, it's dysfunctional. And so
our friends at Timeline have the cure for that. They
have this patented agreement called Mitopure. It's a post biotic
nutrient clears out that bad mitochondria, your your cells battery packs,
and it helps you get through the day better. You'll
feel better, you'll have more energy, focus, and uh, I
(16:48):
could really use some of that right now. So here's
what you got to do. You go to Timeline dot
com slash d lls today to get ten percent off
your order of Mito Pure Timeline dot com sladh ds.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Yeah. All right, So first Jack.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Lighters, he threw another thirty five pitch bullpen. So it
was a thirty five pitch bullpen. With a band aid
on a fifteen pitch bullpen with the band aid off,
and then yesterday through a thirty five pitch bullpen with
a sort of a glue, which I was wondering about
that is there something that you can put on that
(17:26):
lister that will still give you the feeling Like a
band aid, you're not going to have feeling, but this
glue apparently still allows you to sort of have maybe
not exactly the same, but some feeling in that finger.
And anyway, he did that and the next step was
to see how he was, you know, the next day.
But he did very well from that and the thought
(17:48):
is now, Jeffy's going to go out on a rehab assignment.
That's what Boat said was the plan was to have
him go out on a rehab assignment and then you know,
hopefully be ready to pitch, probably early in the first
series of the next road trip.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Yeah, the glue thing. You know, as you know, John,
there are lots of blister remedies or shortcuts or cover ups.
And yeah, I remember, you know when when you darvismissed
out on that perfect game. The next day he had
a blister. Yeah, and it was something that lingered and Uh,
(18:25):
they did have to to. They used glue in his instance,
in his case, and you know that it's not it's
not unusual at all.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
And you know Jack Jack.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
The last time I saw him on the last homestand
he showed me the finger and it looked okay, it
looked like the new layer of skin had formed, but
it wasn't thick enough. And they're worried about that tearing.
And if that tore, then it would be a real problem.
So it sounds like they're being extra cautious with this
thing and making sure they're taking the proper steps. So
(18:57):
if he's able to throw at the band aid a
even and if he can't have a great feel for
the ball, at least he's keeping his arm going right
and able to do some stuff there. He's thrown twice
now without a band aid, so you figure that's a
pretty good sign.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
And and yeah, if they feel good enough to send
him out to a rehab assignment this week, I think
Frisco is back home, so it would probably be Frisco and
and then send him, send him and get him ready
for that that that series at Sacramento where he pitched
there last year. Obviously he didn't face the ace. He
faced the Sacramento river Cats, and he saw seven seven
(19:36):
shutout innings, five hits, now walks, eight strikeouts. So maybe
maybe the thinking there is, hey, get him back to
a place where he's performed all in the past and
knows it and get him back in there. But it's
all good news. It appears to be all good news
with Jack Lyder.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Yeah, and that that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
It's just a fantastic opportunity for the Rangers because really
through all of this, you know, the pitching on this
last road trip was actually okay.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
I mean Jack's start was one of the best.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
On the road trip, and the others, you know, Jacob
de Gram, as we mentioned yesterday, Jacob de Gram said,
I didn't do anything well. I mean, in his own world,
I didn't do anything well. I didn't hold runners, I
walk for people. You know, I just I didn't do
anything well. And he's hard on himself, and he did
lots of things well, but not in his high standards.
And you know, even Evaldi yesterday, I mean, it gave
(20:32):
the team a chance to win, but you know, he
plunks a couple of batters there at the in the
his last inning, and that scored. You know, what was
that insurance run. It wouldn't have mattered, as it turns out,
but that was the third run of the ball game.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
Yeah, yeah, he's hard on all these great guys are
harder than themselves. Even the bad ones are harder than themselves.
And you know, he he does what a veteran often does,
and that's shoulder all the blame.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Yeah, you know, he knows that they In fact, he
said this one's on.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
He knows that the team is hitting under two hundred.
He knows, he knows that, and and so he knows
that he probably needed to go out there and allow
more than one or two runs, and and it didn't happen.
But if anybody knows what's going on with the team,
it's that guy. He observes things, not just about pitching,
(21:27):
but offense from you know, seeing what other hitters do
to attack him, how other teams pitch have, you know,
the Rangers. I mean, it's crazy how deep his knowledge
runs about the game and the team. But anyway, yeah,
he was fine. Yeah, you know, I mean he got
(21:48):
a lot of help from Hoby Milner. And sometimes you
need a little help from your friends in the bluepen.
But I obviously there are no concerns there about Valdi,
and it'll be better the next time. But he's got
any he's the next time is going to against the Dodgers,
so you know, it's going to be pretty pretty tall
task for him.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Yeah, it'll be a very one of those very dramatic type,
you know moments. Really, that whole game would be a
little bit like yesterday was when if you had a
chance to watch any of the masters, it was pretty
dramatic sports viewing yesterday. And I got a feeling that
Jacob de Gram against the Dodgers, right, the best against
the best, iron sharpens iron and all that kind of thing.
(22:26):
So but anyway, Yeah, so that's Jack Lighter's situation right now.
And the question there I see from Gallaga Champ is
do we send Rocker down when Jack's ready and hopefully
get him right. We talked a little bit about this yesterday.
That's certainly one of the options when it's time to
put Jack back on the roster.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
Yeah, I think so, And it's you know, I think
I think whenever Patrick Corbyn pitches next, and it's looking
like it's going to be tomorrow, Yeah, how good is
it going to be, you know. And you know, here's
another thing. Do you want Patrick Corban to face the
Dodgers right, you know, which would be the start on Sunday.
So they do have some options. And really if if
(23:14):
it just sort of swap Molly and and Corbyn, it
would it would be uh probably advantageous for them to
do that. So we'll see. I haven't heard back officially
yet from somebody I texted about it, so hopefully that
comes out soon. But it's back to Rocker. I would
(23:36):
think it would be Rocker or Corbyn. And you know,
one easy thing you can do is you can send
Corbyn to the bullpen and then send one of the
other guys and send send out a you know, and
and so that's that's one option. I don't think. I
(23:57):
don't think Rocker to the bullpen is an Yeah. I
think they want him to start wherever it is. They
deem his best for him and and you know, if
if the bullpen's getting there, if the rotation's getting by,
and you can live with some bumps and bruises from
your young guys, and then I think they'll let him stay.
But he needs to show some improvement here because you know,
(24:21):
one on one off, I don't know. I don't know
what good that's doing anybody. If if he's not able
to repeat from one start to the next to success,
then there it feels like maybe there's a flaw there
in the delivery, something he's not able to repeat, because
I don't think it's scouting reports, you know, just kind
of reading some more about the start the other night.
(24:41):
You know, he he didn't feel good about a slider,
so he was too heavy on the curveball, and then
he was falling behind. And you know, no matter how
good you are, when you fall behind and counts, these
hitters are going to sit fastballs and if you make
a mistake with one, they're going to hit it hard.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Yeah, and he was missing with the sanctor. He tried
to know use that sinking fastball and it was staying
to getting catching too much of the zone. But you're
right about the slider. He used it very rarely in
that game, and that's generally been his you know, his pitch,
that's his go to sure if you know, if they
do get to the point to send him down, that's that.
(25:18):
And they're way smarter about this than we are. But
he's he's got to go down there and work on
this pitch mix stuff, right. I mean we watched him
a few times in the minor leagues last year and
it'd be fastball, fastball, slider out, you know.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Right.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
He didn't have to throw very many pitches because he
was dominating, particularly at the Double A level last year.
So you know, the pitch mix is huge, and it
is as he's learned, you know, quickly here at the
major league level.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Yeah, you just don't see guys who have two pitch
now and because you know, if one of them's not
working that day, you're in trouble. And and you know
that's why Cody Bradford added a curveball and why he's
you know, trying to just add to give him something
else to think about it. Sure, and instead of fastball,
(26:14):
change up, fastball change up. So you know all these
pitchers do it, you don't. I mean, Tim, Tim Wakefield
had one pitch, but even occasionally Wakefield would try to
throw a fastball there. Yeah, same thing with ra A. Dickey.
You know, he had a little more uh pitching moxie
to him, but you know, it's it's just hard to
get through it with with two pitches. You can do
(26:34):
it in the minors, and you can do it in
the bullpen, and you can do it in the bullpen
for sure. But like a Valdi, all right, he's got
five or six pitches to choose from. So if three
aren't working, well, guess what, he's got three more than are.
And and you know de Grom with the curveball now,
which is a great, fantastic Yeah, you know, he has
four pitches that can help him, you know when his
(26:56):
fastball commands not up there. So yeah, you've got to
have multiple pitches. You've got to be able to command
them all too. That's just it's not just oh yeah,
I can throw a curveball. Well, anybody can throw a
crappy curveball up right there. But it's got to be
something that you can land as a strike and then's
you know, going to help you get.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Out and command. Right, It's just got to be a
quality strike. These hitters are too good. If your sinker,
as it was you know with the with the rocker
the other day, if your sinker is just catching a
little too much of the hot zone, they're going to
hit it and they're going to knock you out of
the game, which is exactly what happened the other day
(27:31):
with Kamar. So, uh, yeah, I don't know, it'll be
really interesting to see. I think they're they're going to
continue to be careful, you know, with him. He's too
valuable of a future commodity, of a piece that could
be such a huge part of the future. They want
to do this, you know, they want to do this carefully,
and of course they want to do this right.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
Yeah, And you know, you're not doing a guy if
any favors, if you're not put him in a position
to succeed and you know, maybe him going to triple
a if if that's the case, gets him to the
point where his body synced up and his pitches are
working right and everything's good, so that when he comes
back he has a better opportunity to succeed. So we'll
(28:18):
have to wait and see. You monitor that one, because
that's definitely an issue that's going to present itself next
week when Jack is able to come off the aisle.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Yeah, so we'll be keeping a close eye on Jack
lder a close eye on Kamar Rocker. We expect that
Jacob de Gram will be himself and you know, I
think that most of these guys and he in particular,
Jeff seems to be that guy that's like he's angry
next time he goes out in the mound after what
(28:49):
he thought was, you know, a performance where he didn't
do anything right. Yeah, and then you know, anger is
not a bad thing, no, you know, if you can
contain it, and yeah, it motivates you, and it makes
you compete a little bit harder, a little you know,
there's a little fire. And another thing about Rocker that
Bruce Bochi has talked about is tempo. You know, pitch
(29:12):
with tempo. Keep these guys off balance. That's another thing.
Don't let them, don't let them get too comfortable in there.
And you think the pitch clock would help with that,
but you know, Kamar doesn't move fast for anybody, you know,
And that's something else that Bruce Bochi has talked about.
But yeah, hey, little anger, whatever it takes, no, whatever
(29:33):
it takes to get back to yourself. And then, of
course pitchers try to mimic what the guy before them
in the rotation did. So get one of those starts
by Jacob de Gram and the next thing, you know,
you might string a few of those type performances together.
More coming up, we get to the power rankings, We
get to lots more of your questions, and we continue
(29:54):
to talk baseball.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Rangers are off today.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
They are second place in the American League West at
nine and seven after sixteen games.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
We talk power rankings.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Next, did the Rangers fall out of them out of
the top ten? We'll find out next it's the DLLs
Rangers Podcast.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
You know, John, I'm looking at our reads and the
one that I've kind of has intrigued me the most
here lately is monarch money.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Maybe it's because we are just paying our taxes, yeah,
and being like, oh ye, holy cow, we probably just
manage our money a little bit better next year, whatever
the case. And tomorrow is tax day. For those of
you who haven't filed yet, you can get extensions and stuff.
But I don't even know how to do that, but
you know anyway, all right, So monarch money easy way
(30:47):
to track your finances and it helps you get into
the position to where you can have the kind of
life you want. And you know, if you have kids
and you need to figure out how to say for
their colleges, monarch can clear up your financial picture for
you so you can do all the things and then
still have some money left over when it's time to retire.
(31:08):
I guess I'm getting there, John, I mean, I don't know,
I remember naking up, but yeah, well that's a college
and b retirement. I don't know if if either one
is going to be feasible. So anyway, I'm off topic.
But get control of your overall finances with Monarch money.
Use the code d LS at monarchmoney dot com in
your browser for half off your first year. That's a
heck of a deal. That's fifty percent off your first
(31:30):
year at monarchmoney dot com with the code d LLS.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Yeah, and save. Take a little bit of the money
you save, and maybe you'll get that return on your
income taxes, you know, some money back. And you can
buy a Neon sign at Saturday Neon. They're fantastic, they are.
They are led Neon signs, so they're not their old
traditional kind with gas running through the tubes. And the
(31:56):
other thing about those led lights man inside there. They
just don't burn out, but they look just like old
fashioned Neon. And they're done in the motif of fifty
of your favorite colleges or universities. I'm sure yours is
on the list if you went to one of those
fifty schools. So you go to saturday Neon dot com
and you get a ten percent discount if you use
(32:19):
the code DLLLS at saturday neon dot com. So the
new Power rankings are out. They do it every week
and I find it fascinating. And there are Jeff I
don't know if you've looked at.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Him, Oh I didn't.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
I always like this to be a surprise.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
I do too.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
There are only three American League teams in the top ten. Okay,
which three American League teams do you think would be
in the top ten?
Speaker 4 (32:55):
Boy, I'm going to go I'm going to go Royals, Okay, Rangers,
and I'll go Angels.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Very interesting.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
The three American League to you've got none of them
right now?
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Good?
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Hey, yeah, perfect, it's a good thing. This isn't our
sleeper whole thing. The three American League teams that are
in the top ten are in our seven, eight, and nine.
And those three teams are in order, in seventh place
(33:34):
in your power rankings. The New York Yankees come on.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
Down from three, okay.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
And they have they've been hitting well, but not in
the middle of their lineup, you know. So anyway, number
eight up from thirteen, the Detroit Tiger, maybe Roight Tiger.
This might be their year again. And then number nine
(34:05):
previously five. Last week they were fifth in the rankings.
Your Texas Rangers. Oh and look at that. They start
the thing with Jacob de Gram's quote. Didn't do anything
well is their description, didn't locate well. Here's the exact quote.
Didn't locate well, walked four guys, didn't hold runners with
two strikes, didn't locate well, was all over the place,
(34:28):
put us in a bad spot, and the bullpen had
to come in for a lot of innings. That's on me.
I've got to do a better job. That's the total
quote after that game on Friday from Jacob.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
Jacob Yeah, again hard on himself, but whatever.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Yeah, we like we say, probably overly hard. But again
that's a veteran move and that's a good thing. He takes,
takes the pressure. Coaches will do that, especially at the
college level. That's all my fault, that's all. It's not
the kids, you know, that type of thing. But anyway, yeah,
so we've got those three American League teams in the
top ten of the Power rankings. The only National League
(35:04):
team below your Texas Rangers is the team they've beaten
the twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Three World Series. I've heard of them, Arizona Diamondbacks.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Okay, so it was it was one through six was
the National League, and then seven, eight and nine seven Yankees, Yankees, Tigers,
and then who Rangers? See I said Rangers. I got
the Rangers. Oh that's right, you did say Rangers. Sorry
what yeah? Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, all right.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
So yeah, Dodgers are number one, previously number one, Padres
previously number four, move up to number two. The Phillies
previously number two, make the slight fall to number three.
That's way up. Ooh, from number nine to number four
(35:54):
on the list. Okay, the Cubs previously six, slightly up
to five.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Giants not Giants, I mean again, that's are they still
ahead of the Dodgers both the I think both the
I know the Podres and the Giants are ahead of
the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
And Giants had a nice series Yankees.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Yet they did.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
Yeah, and the Giants are up to six from eight. Okay,
So there's your power rankings, and you know it's just uh,
none of it matters, uh until the end anyway, But
it is interesting to see how you know, again this
they base it not just on the week, but on
the team. And that means that the Rangers are still getting,
(36:39):
you know, a lot of respect from the people who
who consider these things and really it's their living.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
They have to make a living doing this.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
And people understand baseball and what is happening here. Yeah,
and they know that teams go through this stuff frequently,
like we keep talking about, and I know it's not
a doesn't make a lot of you guys out there
feel any better. You know, we got we got Natalie
all ticked off it at Leoti, she's she's done with him.
(37:09):
And then nellis harrena is that is that if that's
a person hello, or if that's a saying, I hope
it's not dirty. Paul, Yeah, but he's been kind of
all over the team. Coal. It doesn't really matter who
they throw. If this team can't hit, that's a pretty
good point Coal. So anyway, and some shots at Jock
(37:33):
all right, now they're well deserved, I think, but yeah,
I mean it's and again the baseball has taught me
John how to not take a defeat.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
So hard.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Yeah, you know, whether it's a I don't know what
a personal defeat would be a bad day, you know.
So it's like, all right, tomorrow's a new day.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
You know, these guys lose five times in a row
and it's like, all right, the next day, got a
chance to win again. You know, you get a do
over in baseball pretty much right away, you know. And
so that's the mindset that these guys are in. Of
course they want to be performing better, but they know
that if they stick with what works and has worked
for them to pass, that everything will come together. It's
(38:16):
just a matter of time. Marcusimi's not going to hit
one thirty all year. No, Jack Peterson's not going to
hit oh, seventy whatever whatever it is.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Yeah, now Jake Berger, right, he's not gonna hit one
fifty five or whatever he's at right now. Yes, it's
just figured it out, and it's it's one of those things.
And I've mentioned this once on the show before. At
the fan fest this year, I'd never heard it described
this way, but I heard Chris Young again, you know,
Rangers GM and or president of Baseball Operations and a
(38:46):
former Major league pitcher, and he said, you know, baseball
players know that on any given day, they can be
the worst player on the field. It's particular acute for pitchers, right,
who can just get bombed one day. But still even hitters,
you know, they can come to the plate not having
(39:08):
a clue against somebody and go zero for four with
four strikeouts, and that same guy, whichever he has to
come to the ballpark the next day believing he's the
best player in the stadium. Right, And that's a tough
one to overcome, because to your point, a bad day.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
We wake up after a bad.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Day and like, oh god, man, I just I don't know,
can I even I hope I can have a better day.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
Right.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
We don't necessarily wake up and go I'm still the
best at what I do.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
Right, Because we had.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
A bad day, we're kind of beaten down by it.
And it's a and that's what a team has to
do too, right the team. The same logic applies to
the team, the team which just went one in five
on the road and could you know, couldn't you know
hit their way out of a paper bag in Seattle.
They've got to hit the field tomorrow in Arlington, and
(39:56):
they will believing that they're gonna come out there, and
I mean they they don't think about sweeps, but they're
gonna believe. They're gonna come out there, and they're gonna
really put it to the Angels starting Tuesday night, and
and they'll believe it Wednesday, and they'll believe it Thursday,
which would be a sweep.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
And then they'll believe it against the Dodgers too, you know.
I mean, you never know what's gonna happen in baseball,
and any game. Every every game is different. It may
look it may look the same, but something different happens
to get you to this what might be the same result.
Those back to back one nothing games against the Reds
entirely different games. And uh, you know so. But you
(40:34):
believe in the guy next to you. You believe in
your teammate, you know who they are, you know their
track record, and just try not to put too much
pressure on themselves. It's it's easy to do though. You've
seen guys do that before, sign these sign these nice
deals and they come out and can't figure it out.
Andrew McCutcheon was what was one that comes to mind
right away? You know, these guys care about how they're performing.
(40:57):
They don't want to make outs, but they also know
that there's a process involved that if they stick with
what works, eventually all the stuff is going to start
turning out the way they usually have performed.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
And there's nobody better at that, maybe in baseball than
Corey Seeger and Marcus Simeon. Those two guys are so
detailed in their routine. I wouldn't I wouldn't call it superstition.
It's not really superstition. It is a routine and it's
(41:30):
you know, we see we see Seeger's routine because it's
away from the rest of the team, it's separate from
batting practice, and it's usually in the hollows of the
old any stadium, I mean rahome End Road. He sets
up a camera and he is in touch with his
personal hitting coach daily before every single game. The routine
(41:52):
does not vary, and I think that's one of the
reasons his consistency has been so great through his career.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Yeah, and you know, you can tell though he's made
some changes this season too. His stance looks a little
more open, but he you know, it has started to
click for Corey Seeker. Okay, he is hitting the ball hard,
he's finding holes. I think Corey Seeger is no longer
a concern. He was there the first couple of weeks.
(42:20):
It's going to be fine again. It's it's and it's
not just three guys. I mean, there are three guys
that really stand out, but really everybody except for let's say,
Josh Smith, Steger Now and jonah Heim could use a
kick in the shorts. Sure, they really could something to
get them going. And it's coming. I think it's coming.
(42:41):
You know, if I have any long term concerns about
the offense Peterson because I don't know a lot about him,
Adules because you know last year and he's just so
wildly inconsistent. And then you know, the center field, to
Natalie's point, probably needs to be better. I don't think that.
(43:02):
I don't think the Rangers want to put wyat Langford
in center field. You know, they want him to sit
in left field and just hit the ball, all right,
that's they don't want him to have to worry about that.
Josh Young is clicking too, yeah, good point, Sports Zone.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (43:17):
And but back to Wyatt, you know, when he comes back,
I don't think they're going to put him in center.
They really want to try to avoid that. He's fine,
he said, playing center field. Josh Smith played center field
pretty well spring training. But I don't think they're there yet.
I really think that they would try polar every day
(43:38):
as opposed to, you know, if they're that down on LEODI.
And of course the center field or that they really
really want is Evan Carter. And he's got the day
off today because he's at Triple A and Triple A
and none of the minor league teams play on Mondays.
But he was off Friday and Saturday. He played yesterday
(43:59):
one or three with a walk, he stole a base,
you know. Concerns about his health and the back thing.
You know, they're still learning how to manage it, I think,
but the indications are he's able to play. If he's
able to go out and steal a base. I think
his back's feeling pretty good, no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
And there was somebody in the chat earlier asking is
he going to be able to hit again?
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Yes, he is. He is too good at.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
This U it's just there's a mental block or there's
uh maybe a slight mechanical thing. But he will be
who we've seen him be again there's just almost no
doubt a guy who works as hard as him and
who has such a high baseball IQ, he'll be back.
It's just a matter of when will be back to
talk about our cleanup segment. Lots to talk about there,
(44:46):
including a tie to the Masters in Baseball that's coming
next on the DLLs Rangers podcast.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
We screwed up. We forgot to mention at the top
of the show.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
Oh my god, what a great and I say we.
When I say wee, Jeff's like you got a mouse
in your pocket.
Speaker 4 (45:43):
That was your job. No, I screwed up.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Because we've got this, We've got this die hard deal
thirty six bucks and you could be a die hard
thirty this shirt if you wanted to order or that
one would be thirty five, thirty four to ninety nine.
Thirty six dollars. You become a die hard and so
for one dollar, basically because you get the free shirt.
(46:06):
For one dollar, you get all the content that we provide.
Jeff's writing, I'm going to start doing some writing. We've
got all the writers over there at the Cowboys and
the Stars and the MAVs, right, and one dollar basically
one dollar for the year. So we encourage you to
become a die hard today. There you go, thirty six
(46:26):
dollars and the Cowboys are getting credit for this because
it's draft time, but it doesn't matter. You get the benefit.
Speaker 2 (46:32):
Whether you're a.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
Baseball, hockey, basketball, whatever your fandom is. It's thirty six
bucks for you to join and become a die hard.
And if you do that, you get twenty percent off
all of our events, which include the Lone Star Open
coming next Friday, twenty fifth.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
Come play golf with us. We'd love to have you
join us.
Speaker 4 (46:54):
I don't know, it's not really golf court etiquette to
wear a T shirt. No, but maybe because it's our tournament,
we can.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
You know, that's why they need the polos.
Speaker 4 (47:04):
We're we're just wear the shirt. But anyway, Yeah, stored
on Allcity network dot com. When you become a diehard
for thirty six bucks, you're gonna go over there and
get your free T shirt. There's six or seven Ranger
shirts to choose from, maybe eight now with the new additions,
including the one I'm wearing, which John wore yesterday. We're
monitoring each other's wardrobe so that we don't double up
(47:25):
on the shirts, trying not to look like that. So anyway,
do that because if you're going to be a diehard,
you want to go all the way and have the
look to So.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
I mentioned the Masters and the high drama that it
was yesterday. I've never seen a roller coaster, you know,
any of the amusement park in the world and certainly
in the United States, would be very proud to have
a roller coaster with the dips and the valleys and
the hills that Rory McElroy had to climb yesterday after
(47:56):
a double bogie on the first hole. He's the first
goal forever to have four double bogies in a tournament
and still win the Masters. You just don't make four
doubles and win the Masters. He had a one hundred
and twenty five yard shot in on eighteen. All he
had to do was knock it on the green and
two putt and he wins. And he knocked it in
(48:17):
the sand and then two putted and luckily for him,
that only made it. So what was a tie? He
had to go play extraal. It was high drama, okay,
And so anyway, there was a tie to baseball at
the Masters yesterday and really to.
Speaker 2 (48:34):
The whole weekend.
Speaker 3 (48:35):
And that tie is Jackson Joe the Tigers pitcher, who
is you know, one of the guys who's in the
conversation and now jack Lighter has inserted himself into this
conversation and others to.
Speaker 2 (48:48):
Be Rookie of the Year.
Speaker 3 (48:50):
And Jackson got his first major league win this weekend
for the Detroit Tigers in Minnesota, and there is Job.
After he got the win, he went and played golf.
No that he's the little one that's two thousand and six.
His dad is Brandt Job, who played in the Masters
(49:12):
three times. And that's the par three day when when
golfers go out there and they can take family man.
We saw I think I saw Jordan Speeth's kids hitting
golf balls this weekend and other you know, other people's
young ones out there having fun. And that's a really
fun part of it. And so anyway, that's probably appropriate
(49:33):
that his first major league win, Jeff was on Master's weekend.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
That's pretty cool. I'm moving down, Yeah, and brand Job
is sticking out of my head for some reason. And
I mean I remember the name. I'm trying to figure
out though if he has a local tier from Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (49:49):
Right, Yeah, did he win the Colonial?
Speaker 4 (49:52):
Maybe I don't think he was that good. Maybe maybe
he just remember him from the old Sega golf game
he was on there. Maybe he really yeah, was always
waxing beating the crap.
Speaker 2 (50:02):
Out of him.
Speaker 4 (50:02):
But he won six times in Japan, so that's pretty good,
four times in Asia, twice in Canada, you know big
Hooters Tour win. He won the nineteen ninety two Colorado Open. Okay,
maybe maybe maybe you remember that. Yeah, don't, but maybe
it's starting to click a little bit here.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
So does he have any pgs? Is the Colorado Open
a PGA Tour win?
Speaker 4 (50:24):
No?
Speaker 2 (50:24):
No, no, so he has no PGA Tour win sprint?
Speaker 4 (50:27):
Correct. His best finish in a major was tied for
fourteenth at the ninety nine Masters.
Speaker 3 (50:33):
It appears okay, that was six there that picture we showed,
and yeah, all about sport zone, says Ken. Griffy Junior
was taking photos at the Master. That's a good point
I saw that. I mean, is that I wonder how
he got a credential? Yeah, you know, so anyway, Yeah,
that was pretty cool though. That's neat to see him
(50:53):
that interested in doing that. And he went down with
the great Unwashed.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
As we like to call ourselves. So that was cool.
Speaker 3 (51:01):
It was a really fun weekend of golf in Augusta, Georgia.
As normal, this weekend two also marked in Minnesota the
same place where the Jackson Joe victory took place. It
marked the unveiling of the Joe Mauer statue. Now Joe Mauer,
the longtime Twins catcher and then first Baseman deserves a
(51:25):
statue for sure. But I believe the twins are over statue.
They have a lot of statues. They got a statue,
a lot of statues. The former owners, I think their
former right, the Polars, poll Odds, whatever their name, both
mom and dad, they both have a statue now here.
Speaker 2 (51:41):
Here's who deserves a statue there, Kirby Pucket, Yeah he's
got one.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
Maur he's born and raised in Minnesota and played for
the hometown team and uh.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
Rod carew rod carew. But does herbec does Aliva Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 4 (52:03):
Is in the Hall of Fame statue?
Speaker 2 (52:05):
I don't know, I don't know. Maybe you know.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
I think they're over statued. I'm just saying I think
that needs.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
To be really special. But I believe Mahur is one
of the guys that should.
Speaker 4 (52:15):
Have a statue. Yeah, okay, So I'm still stuck on Branjo. Sorry, yeah,
come on, I wasn't ignoring that Branjo moved to Denver
to young age. Okay, so maybe I remember from that
he did live in south Lake for a while.
Speaker 2 (52:30):
Oh here, So.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
I think it's following. It's all coming together. He was
following me that's right.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
Yeah, Uh, Spencer Strider and somebody mentioned Spencer in the chat.
I think now mentioned uh Spencer in the he's one
of those guys with the two pitch cheat code.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (52:47):
Uh, he's back Wednesday. Yeah, he's going to start in
Toronto for the for the Braves after only making two
starts last year due to the injuries that that basically
took the season from him, and to to what Jeff
always says that I couldn't agree more. Uh, you know,
took one of the games great pitchers away from us, right,
I mean, we love I love seeing a guy like
(53:09):
him pitch, even if it's against my team, and in fact,
especially if it's against my team if we do some
of the things right as the Rangers did against and
I'm drawing a blank real quick on his name, the
kid in Cincinnati who's got a one fantastic yeah, and
the Rangers got him.
Speaker 4 (53:28):
Yeah yeah. Well, and then you know Justin Steele, who right,
the Cubs they got us. He's gonna he's having Tommy
John surgery.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (53:37):
So you know it went from elbow inflammation to second
opinion to uh, season ending elbow surgery. So that's not.
Speaker 2 (53:47):
That's not good.
Speaker 3 (53:48):
No, no, it's not good for the Cubs, and really
it's it's not a good look for the Rangers. They
should have won that game. Poor bastard had a torn
ligament and still stuck a tool.
Speaker 4 (53:58):
I'm telling you that cold weathers the cold weather.
Speaker 3 (54:00):
Yeah, it's the heck of a point. Yeah, and I
think somebody needs to ask him. Yeah, I think there's
some narrative out there that that. In fact, it was interesting.
Note from that. We mentioned yesterday that Garrett Crochet near
no hitter against his former team, the White Sox. I
didn't see this yesterday, but that that No note, Jeff
(54:21):
was broken up by Chase Medroth.
Speaker 4 (54:24):
Oh you don't say Chase.
Speaker 2 (54:25):
Huh. It's one of the guys he was traded for.
Oh is that right? How about that?
Speaker 3 (54:30):
Here we go, they got okay, and he said, you know,
they asked Garrett about it afterwards.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
He goes, yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (54:36):
Thought that was pretty ironic too, He said, I noticed it.
I mean, I don't have much of a feeling about it.
You know, we still won the game all as good,
but yeah, that that that's that's a really ironic twist
to breaking up a no hitter.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
There's no doubt about that.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
Yeah, Nell's Herena asked about John Gray. I also looked
up nell A's herena and what it translates to Herena
means flower, but it can be slag for doe, like money,
money and the Dominican. So we're getting there. I remember
when you want, if you want to, if you want
to q us in a little bit more feel free.
(55:10):
I think it might also be a song.
Speaker 3 (55:11):
Yeah, And I remember when, you know, when poor Cory
Seger had to miss, you know, an extended period because
of an arena.
Speaker 2 (55:19):
He's ad to Arenas is at too arenas.
Speaker 4 (55:22):
God dang it. John Gray. The update on John Gray.
It's been a couple of weeks since I saw John Gray,
and he'd see him this week. Yeah, he said he
was going to get He's he should be getting to
scan this week, and if if all's good with the scan,
then he moves another step closer to whatever is next
(55:44):
in his rehab process. He was in he was in
good spirits considering and and he was he felt really
good about a spring and feels like he still has
a chance to come back and do some good things
this this season. So, but it's still going to be
a while. It's still still June July. Uh for for
(56:06):
John grading it back on the mound, yeah, or get
back to the Rangers.
Speaker 3 (56:10):
The Rangers, Yeah, because it's just it's just such a
long build up. I mean, it's basically, okay, now you're healthy,
go have spring training.
Speaker 4 (56:18):
Yeah, you know, you know, if it had broken, his
left arm still would have sucked, but he could be
keeping that arm active and doing some form of throwing
and whatnot. But he's not doing anything now. And hopefully
the Cody Bradford h he had hoped to play catch
last week for the first time, so hopefully that happened.
Speaker 2 (56:40):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (56:41):
I don't you know. The Rosario thing, and I've asked
about it, and Evan wrote about it too. It's a mystery.
They're not they're not really.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
Yeah, they're inane saying why yeah.
Speaker 4 (56:50):
And I don't know if it's a matter of timing
when they want to time this thing out. You'd think
you want to get it done as soon as possible.
So I wonder if there's something worse.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
Maybe they're not going to rent on their insurance.
Speaker 4 (57:02):
Maybe maybe they're they we.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
Got to get that insurance premium, and they need to.
They need to call Global Life.
Speaker 4 (57:08):
Yeah, see if they can get that taken care of him.
But you know the thing is, I have all Hondro's number.
I should just call him and say what is going on?
But I don't know. He's probably under strict orders to
not say anything about it.
Speaker 2 (57:20):
Yeah, I contacted by do not answer Jeff Wilson's calls. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (57:25):
Yeah, so anyway, Uh so I don't know, but he's
not going to pitch this year.
Speaker 3 (57:31):
No, sadly, and and really what this does right now,
this delay pushes him back probably till the All Star
break of next year.
Speaker 4 (57:39):
I mean it, it happened in February, I know it.
So it seems like this is really uh it's very curious.
Speaker 3 (57:48):
Yeah, I mean because we're now we're now in remember
that you know Jacob de Gram last year when he
had Tommy John, he was you know, he only came
back what was it in August in September, So that's
what we're looking at.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
Timing wise. Now we're well into April.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
Uh if if for Sario has it now, we're looking
at August or September next year for him to be
ready to pitch. So yeah, this delay hasn't been hasn't
been great, but there must be a reason. And by god,
we're going to be out there this week and we're
going to try to find out, aren't we.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (58:22):
Andres are ten and oh at home, ten and oh.
They say you're supposed to win fifty percent of your
games on the road. The Padres are three and three
on the road. Yeah, and they're ten and oh at home. Yeah,
if you win, if you win fifty percent of your games,
go five hundred on the road and win all your
games at home, you're gonna win. You're gonna win something big.
Speaker 2 (58:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (58:42):
Yeah, that's great. You know, you know when win your
home games and you know, go five hundred on the
road and you're you're in hell of a good shape.
Speaker 2 (58:51):
Yeah, if you win them all. Yeah, all they really said.
Speaker 3 (58:53):
The rule of thumb is two out of three at
home and five hundred on the road, right, and you
basically you're a playoff team, and you're a really good team.
And obviously they're not going to go eighty one and
oh at home. But apparently the vibe right understandably, the
vibe right now in San Diego, which is just truly
one of the great ballparks, one of the great settings
(59:15):
in all the baseball and that vibe is really strong
in there right now.
Speaker 4 (59:19):
Yeah, you know, and and teams are picking them to
be not teams procrastinators or maybe they're procrastinators, but they
were thinking, hey, this team's not going to be you know,
maybe fourth best. The Rockies are obviously going to be
the worst in the NL West, but diamond backsloaded up
on pitching, and maybe maybe the Giants would would be
(59:41):
a little worse than the Potters. But you know, you
looked at all these playoff projections like, well, the Potterys
aren't gonna make it. And maybe some of that is
the Dodgers winning the West and relegating the Patres to
a wild card, but you know that I really think
that Dodgers, uh a Dodgers Padres Division series last year
was the series of the post agreed. I mean, it was,
it wasn't great. I think whoever won that series is
(01:00:03):
gonna win the World Series. That it was. You know,
the that was a good Podres team. They have a
really good lineup. They're going to get you Darvish back
at some point. So so the you know, the two
kind of younger inexperienced guys. They have the rotation and
one of them is going to go away. So and
you know, AJ Preller is going to make some sort
of trade at the deadline to upgrade the rosters. So
(01:00:24):
I was always kind of bullish on the podres.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Yeah, former Rangers assistant general manager A J. Preller and
a guy, a guy we like. He's a really good guy,
and you root for him. He's a good He's like
a college friend of John Daniels.
Speaker 4 (01:00:37):
Yeah, they were a fraternity brother, fraternity brothers in college.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
So pretty amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:00:43):
Uh the success that both have had, although AJ hasn't
quite gotten them you know there yet, but maybe this
year it'd be fun because again I predicted that the Dodgers,
and I'm staying by it. They're not winning the World
Series this year. I also did see I think it
was now well again who said we hope the rain
he hopes the Rangers or she hopes the Rangers beats
(01:01:04):
up on the Dodgers, especially on Rokie, And as we
all know, I root for his failure.
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Rokie.
Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
Uh, he spurned, he spurned the Rangers, and uh so,
by god, I'm with you, No, I'm with you in
particular beat up on Rokie.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
This weekend a Globe live field.
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
Okay, it should be a fun week Angels first, then
