The Texas Rangers had won only two road series this season entering the day Sunday. Make that three after a 4-2 win that clinched the three-game series over the Nationals. Evan Carter had a two-run homer among his three hits, and Jake Burger hit a key solo homer in the eighth as the Rangers won on a bullpen game for their pitching staff. Jake Latz started and allowed two runs in 3 1/3 innings. The Rangers have an off day Monday before opening a three-game series at Minnesota on Tuesday. 📌 Subscribe for more Texas Rangers content!🔔 Turn on notifications so you never miss an update! #rangers #mlb #baseball #texas #cardinals An ALLCITY Network Production SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/@DLLS_Sports ALL THINGS DLLS: WEBSITE:http://allDLLS.com/ BUY MERCH:http://DLLSLocker.com FOLLOW ON SOCIAL:Twitter: @DLLS_Sports // @dlls_rangersInstagram: @DLLS_Sports Become a DLLS Diehard and get access to premium content, our Discord channel, discounts on merch, and a free shirt! Speaker 4 (01:00):
Well, a little rain did not stop this offense from
having a day. We are going to talk about road improvements,
a bullpen game that got the job done, and so
much more coming up on the DLS Rangers Podcast. Hello everybody,
Welcome into the DLS Rangers studio. Happy to be with you,
Abby Joins Abby Jones joined with Jeff Wilson and we've

(01:22):
got the profit. We're going to start this with offensive
improvements and road improvements because the Rangers got the series today.
Before beginning this nine game road trip, they had one
of the worst road records in baseball. But they're starting
to pick things up turn things around.

Speaker 5 (01:41):
It's still really bad. I don't think it's the worst
in baseball. But it's now eleven and twenty two, which
is three thirty three if I'm doing the math correctly,
and that's not good enough. And they still have three
more games. They're going to the Twins after well, they're
going there tonight, off day tomorrow. But you know, the

(02:01):
offense did enough. Also left a lot on the table,
but a bullpen day, you know, and Jake Lats did
a really nice job, as in the rest of the guys.
But good for Jake doesn't get the win, of course,
because he didn't go the distance. Although that that really
needs to be change, like if pitchers these days aren't
going five innings regularly, but they're doing the bulk of

(02:23):
the work. Maybe that's just me. But yeah, it's a
good win, and it's two in a row on the road.
It's a third road series win of the season, first
since they beat the best team in baseball the Tigers
last month about about the sime a month ago. So
pretty crazy that this team continues to struggle overall. But yeah,

(02:44):
I mean, if you're looking for any kind of glimmer
of hope, maybe a series win, even against the Nationals,
who are playing really good at home, by the way,
maybe this is it.

Speaker 6 (02:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Jacob Lats today second start of his career, first was
his actual MLB debut. You know, he matched, He set
a career high and strikeouts today seven strikeouts. I mean,
he went longer than expected. He probably could have gone
even longer. Let's take a look at these numbers. Three
and a third, two hits, one earned run that was
home run, two walks, seven k's. Like I mentioned before,

(03:17):
exit of the game due to an injury, maybe a
cut or a blister on the thumb.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
Yeah, I think they were going to get him anyway,
but I think that the blister put any doubt out
of their minds. And you know, his MLB at debut
was at Cleveland in twenty twenty one, and he was
It was during a COVID outbreak and the Rangers had
to use the exempt rule where they could add guys

(03:45):
to the forty man roster and then take them off
without having to put them on waiver. So Jake Lance
had to start a game, and so he was added
to the forty man roster. Next day he was back
at Triple A. He pitched pretty well in that start too,
I remember, and then and then became more of a
full time reliever. Uh you know. Bruce Boch before the
game said that he thinks Lasts could be a starter.

(04:07):
He has four good pitches. He throws hard, not stretched
out in that and enough maybe to go too far today,
but hey, they'll take it. He helped the Rangers win
the ball game, and once again this this this team
allowed two runs. You know, fantastic work by the pitching

(04:28):
staff yet again. And the Rangers, I think I saw this.
They they are now twenty three and four when they
score four runs, Yeah, just four, just four runs.

Speaker 6 (04:39):
Four is the magic number.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Twenty three and four. That's pretty darn good. And that
tells you how a good the pitching he's been and
b how bad this the offense has been.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
And it's just behind the Detroit Tigers with that record.
They are the best team in that in that regard.
But yeah, four does seem to be the magic number.
The bullpen did an excellent job today, five arms combined
for nine k's. Like you mentioned the two runs there,
but I was really impressed to see that from Jake Latz.
And do you think he knew he could go that far?

Speaker 5 (05:11):
I mean, you know, lats has had a hell of
a career. He has this great, highly regarded kid in college,
went to LSU, ended up dealing with an injury. They
couldn't couldn't pin their pin down, and LSU finally was like, look,
we don't think you're hurt. And he ended up transferring

(05:32):
to Kent State where they where I believe he was
declared ineligible if I'm not mistaken. He never really pitched
for him, but he credits the coaches at Kent State
for help turning him around, getting him healthy and getting
him onto the path to the major leagues. And you know,
he's a little bit older. He's not a spry twenty
two year old. He's a little old on the older side,

(05:53):
still in his twenties. But you know, all these guys
have different paths and you think they might be a
ardor in college and they ended up being a reliever.
He's just glad to be in the majors. And you know,
he didn't open the season with the Rangers, though he
made a late push. He was hurt in spring training,
didn't really get a chance to pitch. They sent him

(06:14):
out and then he uh really he made the trip
to Arlington, and we were all kind of surprised by it.
And now we see why he's he's now a kind
of a guy in the in the bullpen who they're using, yes,
in long roles, but they use him the other day
in the eighth inning in a key spot. So a
good deal. And uh, a really good kid. So glad

(06:37):
for Jake Lats And he's a really good golfer. Is
a good golfer, great golfer.

Speaker 6 (06:40):
Did golf with.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
Him, I'm not but I heard, I heard he's very
very good. Yeah, gotcha.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Well, I think we have to talk about Evan Carter today.
I mean triple shy of the cycle also Jake Berger
triple shy of the cycle as well.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
Well, you know, that's pretty good and maybe and sometimes
as it is, only two guys that are doing it,
you know, And and the Rangers were over eleven was
runners in scoring position, and that sixth inning was really
frustrating because the three misses were all strikeouts, two by
left handed hitters, and and you know, you just are

(07:17):
kind of kicking yourself, thinking, here we go again, here's
the chance that the Rangers missed. Then on a bullpen
day with no margin for error, something bad is going
to happen. And sure enough, I think it was the sixth,
possibly the seventh opened up with an error, and and
I think the sixth opened with a hit, and then
the seventh opened with an er or there was an

(07:38):
error in the in the eighth, it was the eighth
by Josh Smith. So you're thinking, oh boy, here comes
the kicking the shorts. But the bullpen did a great job.
Robert Garcia got the last four outs. You know, I
think the last time we saw Robert, he had blown
a save there in Tampa, messy inning with that bad
play at first base to end it. And then this

(08:00):
was his This is a return home for him too.
Everybody talked about Patrick Corbman coming home and the Rangers
facing Nathaniel Lowe. Robert Garcia was the guy in the
low trade and he acquitted himself nicely today, so and
he was pretty fired up. He showed some emotion too.
So just you know, not a perfect game by any
stretch by the Rangers because of the runners in scoring position. Thing,

(08:23):
but a win is a win. There'll be a happy flight,
it will be a nice off day tomorrow. Everybody gets
to reset, the bullpen gets to reset, and then and
then they'll go into a target field where the Twins
are really good at home and we'll get into them
a little bit later.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Oh yeah, and you know, it's just one thing today
that the game didn't end in a shutout.

Speaker 6 (08:44):
It was a flip flop. Yeah, for this series.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
And you know, it's like we said, scoring those four
runs kind of is the magic number for the Rangers
because they kind of discussed this earlier on the broadcast.
But there, let's see there just above six runs per
game combined combined, which is the worst of the Divisional era,

(09:09):
but when you pair it, So just explain this to
Rangers fans, like this starting rotation has it only trails
the Mets for Major League er I mean it's a
two eight The Mets are, if you want to get
really technical, two eight four, and then the Rangers are
two eight eight and then the overall rotation only behind the.

Speaker 6 (09:32):
Mets and the Giants.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
Yeah, so when you compare that and the compliment of it,
or really not even the compliment, but you know, the
Rangers are three ish runs a game maybe on a
really good day twenty eighth, then the Mangers in that.
I mean, it's it's really tough when your starting rotation
is that dialed in.

Speaker 6 (09:53):
Heck, even your bullpen is a good day.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
Yeah, you know, you kind of you talk about, you know, football,
you hear, well, you need to play complimentary football. You know,
they need to be good on both sides of the
ball and help each other out and all that stuff.
The Rangers aren't. Aren't getting complimentary baseball if that's a thing,
and it's nothing new, you know, you know, you go
back to that. The Rangers won their first road series

(10:17):
is at Cincinnati, and they lost the first game, Rocker
got knocked around, and then they won two games, one
to nothing. And at that time we're like, oh, yeah,
it's still early. This offense is going to get going.
It's cold there in Cincinnati. You know, it's hard to
hit when it's cold. And then they went to Chicago
and lost two out of three at Wrigley and it
was cold and That was kind of when Tyler Mallley

(10:39):
emerged and we kept coming up with these I don't know,
excuses I guess for the offense or you know, those
are our beliefs at least reasoning for them not hitting well.
Now we're two months into the season, it's like, all right,
these guys have a problem. This could be who they are.
But if that's the case, then yeah, you know the
pitching who they are, yea. And and you know, you say,

(11:02):
you look at the Graham yesterday, he was so good.
I mean that that that's as good as he's been
in a while. And you know, in twenty twenty three
he had a couple of really good starts from the
Rangers before he got hurt. But that was just easy.
It was like it was it was it was like
he hardly broke a sweat. Of course he was sweating
a ton, but it was just easy short innings. He

(11:25):
could strike a guy out whenever he wanted to. It
was like he was just kind of toying with him.
And and had it been you know, if he hadn't
been coming off with Tommy John surgery, I think they
would have let him finish it. He was he was
just cruising. So the offense has to getting going, as
we know. We we we saw Ivan Carter with a
nice game today, Jake Berger, good game, you know. Marcus

(11:48):
Simmons continues to get hits and he's been one of
the best hitters in the game since uh, basically for
a week, you know, yeah, yeah, and hitting over five
hundred in that stretch.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
And some he's Sharon Judge, who.

Speaker 5 (12:06):
Yeah, right, exactly. He's shown some power just him getting
on base and doing things like yesterday he was responsible
for four of the five runs. That's that's just so
critical for this team. Now they got to Corey Seeger going,
who's in a career long over twenty five slump, So
that tells you how good Corey Seeger is. He's never
at a slump like this, and over twenty five is

(12:28):
basically five or six games, you know, and then that
happens a lot, but it doesn't happen to Corey Seger.
And I thought he was he was better today and
he's seeing the ball well. I thought. I thought he
had some good takes. So that's a good sign. It's
just a matter of getting the timing down, which could
happen in any moment. When it does, he's going to
take off. So you know, if you can if you
can take Simeon and a Seeger and and Evan Carter,

(12:53):
and if you can count on Burger for you know,
a two fifty average, let's say in a little an
occasional power. All right, well there's four of your nine. Okay,
then Sam Haggerty looks like he's kind of a spark plug.
I think Osuna probably needs to go back to Triple
A at this point. He's really kind of gotten cold.
But then who you're gonna call up? Well, you know,

(13:13):
Justin foss Hu has been pretty good lately since coming
off the injured list, and and Cody Freeman has been fantastic.
He's not on the forty man, but he's been great.
And so I mean there are options and guys that
you could call up and whatnot. But it looks like,
you know, if Simeon can lead the charge, Simon can

(13:33):
get hot, and if he can bring some other guys
with him, then the offense is gonna get better. And
if the pitching stays as it is as it appears,
then maybe maybe this team has a chance to climb
back a little bit more in the standings and get
a little bit closer to playoff contention and force the
front office to make a decision when we get to
the trade deadline and whether or not to be bigger

(13:57):
buyers and they were last year and and not sell
because they do have some guys they could sell.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Yeah, let's go back to that Simon point. Like you said,
as of the last week, you know, one of the
best in baseball, no doubt, above five hundred average, first
and on base percentage first and ops and second in runs.
I know it's a small sample size, but still it's something.
And also this was you know, Marcus Simeon was number one,

(14:26):
see your number two right like forever since we've known. Yeah,
for the last two games he's been batting in that
clean up position, first time in his career he's been
asked to do.

Speaker 6 (14:36):
So it's working well.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
Mike Bassett made a prediction that this is where he's
going to be for the rest of the season.

Speaker 6 (14:44):
What do you think about that.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
Well, if guys are getting on base in front of him,
it's great, you know, you know those like like the
other night he had two solo home runs. He wasn't
batting fourth. He's batting six or eighth. I don't recall,
but you know, solo home runs don't keep you beat.
And sure enough, the Rays ended up winning that game
because the Rangers hit three solo home runs instead of
you know, maybe a two run homer in there or

(15:06):
a three run homer. It was nice to see somebody
on base ahead of Carter for his home run today.
You know, it's just you know, it is and I
know not everybody likes to hear this, and this is,
you know, a state that evolves around football and the
urgency that comes of playing only one game a week.

(15:26):
But it's only June. The Rangers haven't hit the halfway
point yet of their season. They have more than ninety
games to go. There is plenty of time for them
to get hot. For you know, if you believe in
the old adage that offense heats up as the weather
heats up, and you know, that's kind of you can

(15:47):
apply that to some players from Latin America, like like
Big Poppy. You so always say that, and maybe some
older players, and the Rangers are an old team, maybe
some older players needed to be a little bit warmer.
But Simeon, he said it yesterday on the walk interview
with Laura. This is kind of like twenty two to him,
and he's stuck with his routine and then things started
to take off. And you know, this team has the ability.

(16:10):
This team is better than the twenty two team by
a long shot. The team has the ability to be
in there. And again, nobody in the West is running
away with it. The Mariners gave away a game yesterday
to the Angels. The Astros lost today, and the Angels
are hot and cold. But the Rangers have the ability
to be at the top of the division and to
be a playoff contender. And maybe this is what gets

(16:31):
him going. Maybe Marcus Simeon and a Roads series win
or what get him going.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
We are going to continue talking about what is sparking
this offense. Maybe somebody to keep their eyes on in
the next few games to come.

Speaker 6 (16:44):
Stick around on the DLS Rangers podcast.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
Abby, I'm taking a bullet for you here and doing
the Mando ad. I figure, it's four men, and you know,
I don't think you can talk about our body parts
quite like we can. Mando. It's the men deodorant that
takes care of all stinky male parts. You can insert
them here. Mando even asks us to say stuff like
balls and billy button grundles what they call taint. It's

(17:13):
taint people, all the things where you could stink. If
you're a man, you need Mando. It comes in manly sense,
like like whiskey leather leather. You know, I like both
both whiskey and leather. So John Radgan, who's off today,
he likes to he likes to use him on his feet.
Whatever works, Mando is going to help you get through,

(17:37):
like a time after the gym or just something like
that where you've got to let maybe go to the
grocery store all sweaty and gross, which I did the
other day and ran into one of my attractive lady
friends at the gym. Ran it to at the grocery
store kind of uncomfortable. So anyway, Mando dot com, Shopmando
dot com and you can get use the codel as
for five dollars off your starter pack.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
And on a light note, if you are a small
business owner, LinkedIn is the place for you. Nobody works
harder than you at your own business, and this is
a company that is going to put in just as
hard of work when they're looking for somebody to help
you achieve your dreams, your goals. LinkedIn is the one
stop shop to make those hires easy because they are

(18:20):
going to post your job for free. You can share
it with your network, you can get qualified candidates that
you can manage, and it's all in one place. You
just post your job and you can pay to promote
it if you'd like. Which was which would get you
more visibility three times more qualified applicants, but you get
qualified candidates either way. It kind of takes the guesswork

(18:41):
out of the hiring process. I imagine that's a daunting task.
I want to hire good people because people do lie
on their resume. LinkedIn makes it a little bit tougher.
You kind of got to check it out. So do that,
and you can use the code rangers and you can
go to LinkedIn dot com, slash range, LinkedIn dot com
slash rangers post your job for free. Terms and conditions

(19:04):
may apply.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
We see you guys in the chats. Oh yeah, Uncle Ted,
we see you, see you, Todd Jones, Leon slash Misty
andres will get to all of your comments a little
bit later, but we're still working on the uh working
on this series, which was really today was set up
if you want to look at it this way, by

(19:27):
Patrick Corbin and Jacob de Gram Corbyn who threw the
eight incomplete game on Friday and the two nothing loss.
De Graham who went seven solid yesterday, so they only
had to use two relievers that allowed the Rangers to
use to do a bullpen game. Really, they made the
decision yesterday, so you can thank Patrick Corbyn, I guess,
for today, but you know it goes back to you know,

(19:47):
Patrick Corbin, who has not allowed more than two runs
earned runs in any of his starts this season. Pretty good. Yeah,
de Gram, who I think is now at ten or
eleven in a row not allowing more than two runs.
So those guys set it up. And now the bullpen
game helps Tyler Malligan an extra day. It helps all

(20:08):
these guys get just a breather, catch their breath, and
that's so important because they have been writing these pictures
Hard and Malle. Let's not forget Malle coming off of
an injury as well, Tommy John surgery and plus the
shoulder deal. So pretty good stuff by those two guys.
And again, I guess we kind of touched on this

(20:29):
in the earlier series. Simeon, who is so good and
Saturday's game. You know, it's just I think we thought
we'd be talking about series like this a lot more
than we have been, so it's kind of nice and
kind of kind of fun. I don't know, we don't
really know what to do with ourselves here talking about
all these all these wins and all these things. I'm
trying to look for some negatives here just by nature.

Speaker 6 (20:50):
But I'm the good luck chun.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
Yeah, it's Abby. That's right, Abby, good work. So you know,
I'm sure you watched all the games. What did you
think of the series?

Speaker 6 (21:00):
I thought it was good.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
You know, it's I think it's early in the season,
like you said, I think it's getting to the point
of what's the identity of everything? But I think the
thing that's enjoyable to watch is the pitching, no doubt.
I mean, you wish that the offense was a little
bit more of a smart I want to touch on
that bullpen point that you mentioned, because they mentioned this
in the broadcast that the Rangers have the third fewest
bullpen innings this season, the Atlanta Braves first, Tampa Bay

(21:24):
Rays next, and the Rangers at two hundred and eleven
and two thirds, and that is because of starting rotation,
so many quality starts. And I just remember earlier this season,
like what was your bar of like a Jacob de
gram will start X amount of games because he's exceeded.

Speaker 5 (21:42):
Yeah, my h he's already in double figures. You know.
The one of his last bullpens there in spring training,
we were watching them. It was me and Michael Young
and Kolby Lewis, and I was kind of asking him,
you know what, what's a good number for Jacob And
they said one hundred and six year on hundred seventy innings.
You know, so that that means that they're skipping the

(22:03):
guy maybe once or twice, or pushing him back using
you know, like the All Star breaking off days wisely
to save his bullets. And and you know, the curious
thing is in each of his last three starts, he's
thrown eighty one pitches exactly, you know, so I think
eighty not eighty one, is the magic number, and it's
just worked out to be eighty one, but at some

(22:25):
point that that needs to increase. I really think that
he's shown that he's healthy and I know he all
is also shown here in the last four seasons that
he's fragile, but it just seems like he's in a
great spot and he finally feels like he has the
feel for his mechanics and the timing and all of that.
I mean, if he's going to pitch like that, it'd

(22:50):
be so tempting to not just let him go and
let him go and let him go. So that's where
it takes a guy who's in his twenty eighth season
managing and or renowned pitching coach like Mike Maddocks, who
this might be his twentieth season. I think two thousand.
I'll say two thousand and six was his first season
in the majors, So I mean, you know, a lot

(23:12):
of experience there, a lot of a lot of guys
who have had to do this before and manage pitchers,
and so they're doing it with de Grom, you know.
And that's an interesting note about the bullpen because we've
talked about how these guys are wearing down. Yes, they've
had the third fewest innings relief innings in the game,

(23:34):
but it's who they're using, and they're repeatedly having to
use these high leverage guys because they're constantly in these close,
close games.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
So.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
You know a ten to two would be nice. You know,
like last weekend against the Cardinals, those those blowouts were nice. Yeah,
well for morale and for you know, letting, letting you know,
Robert Garcia have a day off, or Hoby Milner, even
though it looks like he has a rubber arm, given
him some time off. That guy, that guy's been awesome.
I I, you know, you kind of look at who,

(24:07):
you know, the best signings the Rangers have made this offseason.
They're both soft throwing left handers. Arlo. You know, I
don't want to call Corbin soft throwing, because he does
get it into the nineties. But Hoey Milner, sure the
hell doesn't. And he just flips those frisbees up there
and he gets everybody out. Right handers, left handers, doesn't matter.
That's fun to see. And so I've started thinking on

(24:27):
the drive here, like they have so many guys who
are on one year deals in the bullpen, and bullpens
and baseball get remade all the time. But you know, Milner,
he lives right up the street. He's pitching. Well, if
he continues like this, it seems like he canna be
a no brainer. To resign, you know, don't give him
a raise, but I don't think he's going to not
going to break the bank, break the bank. He's only

(24:49):
making two and a half I think this year. So
there are some guys, you know, Jacob Webb has pitched
better of late. There are some wobbly moments for for
per Jacob there for a while, but he's been he's
been really good lately. He signed for barely over a million,
you know, and and they're getting a lot of value
out of these guys. But it was good to see
Chris Martin yesterday, you know, listening or reading his postgame comments,

(25:12):
you know, it sounds like the noise is still there,
but the pain isn't. And uh, once you once you
get to forty, he's almost forty. He just turned thirty
nine this week. Once you get up there, you learn
that your body makes noises and that it's okay. And
I mean, I'm every time I stand up, my body
makes a noise, but I'm not hurt. And I think
he's finally realized that he's he's okay. He's just gonna

(25:34):
have to live with it. So that's a that's another
positive sign for for our for our boys, you know,
and we want to see him continue to do well. Yeah,
we wanted we want them to win. It's good for business,
yeah you know we we the LS want more viewers
and more sponsors, and uh, we need the Rangers to

(25:57):
be good. I mean, I you know, I I website
that I had took off. When the Rangers won the
World Series, it was great, and then last year they
stunk and it was like, these guys aren't renewing. I
wonder why So I am. I am not against rooting
for the Rangers' success. I'm not going to cheer form
every game and say like we got to score more
runs and all of this. But my job is always

(26:20):
easier and it has been even before podcasts were invented.
My job's always easier when the Rangers are winning or
the team i'm covering is winning. Makes everybody happy, makes
it easier to cover the team, and it just makes
our job more fun. I mean, the chat's been a
lot more active with some positive stuff today as opposed
to fire Bruce Bochie that we were getting the other

(26:41):
night and all of that stuff. So far's it's it's
nice to see, like Uncle Ted they're discussed talking about
lineup changes and things like that instead of you know,
constructive things instead of destructive things. Not that i'm pointing
that Ted being destructive. Night. It was a guy named
Joe Blow, and I kind of got mad at Joe. So, Joe,

(27:03):
if you're watching yet again, I apologize.

Speaker 6 (27:05):
But I like the username would have given you a
hint there.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
Yeah, but he was a good guy because he also
you know, I apologized numerous times and he accepted my
apology each time. But yeah, this is this is better
when the Rangers win, life is a lot better for us.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
Well, you wrote an article about a certain someone that
could get the offense going.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
Yeah, yeah, not yet. I wrote this, posted it during
the game. The rain delay gave me a chance and
get it done instead of waiting until postgame. I wrote
about some Bashi and walkin. I had a nice long
talk with Ross Finsterer Maker about him and what he's doing. Well,
you know, if you've followed prospects like I'm guessing some

(27:46):
of you guys do here in the chat and watching
along not chatting, that's cool. He's number six prospect in
baseball according to Baseball America. I think MLB has him
at number eight but they both have him as a
guy who could be the number one prospect at some point,
either this year or to start next year. He's nineteen

(28:07):
years old and he's in Double A, and I think
I mentioned this the other day with John he is.
Since two thousand and six, only two players have a
better isolated slugging percentage, which is slugging percentage of minus
batting average teenagers at Double A, Fernando Tatiss and Mike Trout.

(28:30):
Things have worked out pretty well for those guys. Now,
if you look at his at Walcott's statue, you're like,
all right, he's only hitting two forty three entering today.
His on base is pretty good though, but still you're like,
it's not like he's just screaming to be in the
big league lineup, and he's not. And the Rangers aren't

(28:50):
going to bring him up from Double A, and they
want him to go to Triple A, which they think
he'll do at some point this year. If he keeps
hitting the ball hard like he has been the last
let's say two or three weeks, he's going to get
a bump. So you know, it could be a September
surprise like Evan Carter was but he has to get
better again. I'm not calling for him his promotion, but

(29:11):
I did have it bounced to me by a scout
earlier in the season that if a Doulas Garcia continues
to struggle and Walcott is holding his own at Double
A and maybe Triple A, then why not move Sebastian
Walcott to right field? Put him in the major leagues,
let him play right field. He's athletic enough to make
the position change. He definitely has the arm to play

(29:33):
at right field, and he's showing the power. But I
think he still needs some more time. But I would
put him on the back burner for now. I really
think that the Rangers would consider him if if he
graduates from Double A and does something at Triple A
that gives them hope. Evan Carter was only at Triple
A for a couple of weeks, right, you know, and

(29:54):
and so if he can, if he Sebastian can kind
of replicate that, there's a chance. Anyway, you got to
be diehard to read it, and we'll tell you how
to do that a little bit later.

Speaker 6 (30:03):
We certainly will.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
All right, coming up, we are going to preview the
series in Minnesota and we are going to give you
an injury update with these Texas Rangers.

Speaker 6 (30:12):
Systick around.

Speaker 5 (30:17):
You know, Monarch Money there are friends. There are going

(31:23):

you'll get fifty percent off your first year.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
Well, you guys know that I'm from Alabama, and in Alabama,
we like some Neon signs, and we like some.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
College football some some.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
Yeah, we definitely like Saturday Neon because they are officially
licensed collegiate logo LED Neon lights perfect for your home,
your office, dorm room, fan cave, man cave, or bar.
You can check out their college collections featuring almost fifty
of the biggest schools across the country and only seventy

(32:01):

Speaker 5 (32:03):
Yeah, and they'll make you one too, They'll custom make
you on one. Yeah, I'll make you one.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
So when I first moved out here, you know, UT
to me is Tennessee, right, You Tea out here is Texas, right,
So they do have y'all's UT Texas A and M
Texas Tech Oklahoma Oklahoma state signs tradition like no other.
You can head over to Saturday nyon dot com and
use the code DLS or ten percent off your favorite sign.

Speaker 5 (32:30):
There you go.

Speaker 6 (32:30):
I do like a Neon sign.

Speaker 5 (32:32):
Yeah. Yeah, and those LED lights are pretty cool. We
have LED lights on both our kids rooms. They think
they're great, so get the job done. Yeah there you go,
all right, yeah, well, off to Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Off to Minnesota. So this is going to be nine
games in ten days. They get an off day tomorrow.
Right off day in the middle of a well not
the middle, but off day in a road trip is
a blessing.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
It is. It really can be any you know, off
day after six in a row is a great off
day after a bullpen day, which is part of the
reason why the Rangers went ahead and went forward with
it because they knew that the bullpen would get arrest
But they're going to Minnesota. The Twins are thirty five
and thirty. They're right in the I think their second
behind the Tigers in the NL Central. They're looking at

(33:18):
al sorry, looking like a playoff team, but they are
going through some pitching injuries right now. They lost Pablo
Lopez or early last week to a shoulder injury. He's
going to be out four months. Terras Major. If anybody
in Rangers fandom remembers the Terrift Major, that's what got
Jerks and Profar in his career, also a laboram later,

(33:42):
but started with the Terriss Major, and then Zebbi Matthews.
I'm not familiar with Zebi's work, but he just went
down too, so they need a starter for Tuesday. Simeon
Woods Richardson might be that guy. Might be a bull
pen day for them too. But one thing that kind

(34:03):
of goes with the theme of our show. Twins are
really good at home. They're nineteen and ten at target Field.
The Mighty Rangers are eleven and twelve on the road,
so you know you're taking advantage Twins right off the bat, Eliza,
we got those pitching matchups. Mally Corbin, No Malley Lighter Corbyn.

(34:27):
I mean, look at look at look at look at
Patrick Corbyn three and five, three fifty two era a
festa not related to the Rangers old Festa. Matt who's
now with the Guardians. Bailey Ober is an interesting one
too for the Twins because he's apparently his velocities way down,
so there's some injury concerns with him as well. So, uh,

(34:48):
there might be some holes the Rangers can punch through
here in Minnesota. The weather's going to be, you know,
darn nice, and downtown Minneapolis can be a little bit
Harriet tis the ballparks right on the outskirts of downtown.
You got to kind of walk through I don't want
to say a war zone because that takes you back
to twenty twenty. But got to walk through a little,

(35:10):
little tough part of Minneapolis to get back to your
hotel room. But I think the Rangers, you know, got it,
got it. They're gonna at least feel good and feel
like they have a chance to win, to win all
of these games just because of who's starting.

Speaker 6 (35:23):
Yeah, can you finish the song lyric? Does it get cold? Leg?

Speaker 5 (35:30):
I get my peaches down in Georgia?

Speaker 6 (35:32):
No? I did that own luds sometimes always always great to.

Speaker 5 (35:37):
I can't finish that song lyric Minnesota, Okay.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
But hopefully it's not not cold.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
So all right, So we'll talk about a Valdi injuries
because this bullpen day did give some extra rest. So
following Monday's off day, I mentioned Malley's going to start Tuesday,
then lighter than Corbin will go on extra day's rest,
and that Evaldi is eligible to come off the aisle

(36:03):
on Friday. Uh huh, Yeah, it would give to grom
extra day of rest as well.

Speaker 5 (36:09):
Well. It worked, It definitely would work out. It's not
Bruce Bokes. He said before the game talking to Matt
Hicks that that wasn't the plan necessarily to have this
bullpen game and skip that spot, you know, Kumar Rocker,
I'm sorry, Kumar Rocker. Being optioned has created an opening
in the in the bullpen and the rotation and the

(36:31):
need to shift things around. I guess it sounds like
Evaldi is not throwing off a mound yet, so he
would need to do that obviously and come through without
any of that triceps tightness. They might want to set
up a live VP form, which you know they could
probably do pretty easily. But maybe Saturday would be the
day for him because Jacob is you know, by virtue

(36:52):
of the off day tomorrow, Jacob will have an extra
day's rest, so he could pitch Friday in the home
opener against what the White Sox and and not have
any issues. Usage would be on the extra rest instead
of now, if they started a Valdi that day, it
would be two days rest. So I think I think

(37:12):
you probably need to buy a Valdi a little a
little time, especially if he needs to throw a live
a bullpen and then a live VP in there. That
would give him plenty of time to get ready for
Saturday or even Sunday. You know, they could even still
figure out a way to cover cover it with maybe
another bullpen game. I mean, if if the starters keep
doing their job, then you know that that would that

(37:32):
would lend themselves to do that. You could go down
and get a starter if you needed to, a lot
of options here. But Avaldi, again, the expectation was he
would be out. The minimum are very close to it.
I'm sure that's what he thinks. That's what the Rangers
thought before before they the Ayele moves. So he's going

(37:54):
to be back pretty soon. It just won't be in
this twin series. So but they'll be fine. I mean,
you know, again, and you kind of look at Malley,
who's been an incredibly pleasant surprise, you know, a lighter who,
you know, without the injuries to Gray and Bradford, probably
would have started in the bullpen. But now he's he's
in the rotation, and I can't I can't imagine even

(38:16):
when Gray and Bradford are healthy that they would take
Lighter out. And then Corman, who's just you know, it's
just remarkable, and he's a really good guy on top
of things. On top of that, and you know, the
Rangers seem to know their limit for him, though he
kind of surpassed that the other day going eight innings.
It had been kind of you know, once he hits
that third time through, the numbers really went up and

(38:38):
and the Rangers would get him out. But you know,
it's also kind of a that's kind of where the
Bruce Bochi Mike Madison comes in. Again. They don't lean
strictly on the stats. You know, they can tell if
a guy's good, if guy's going good, hey, let's keep
him going, let's get yeah the old eye test. Yeah,
imagine that. So I do you know, the Twins are

(38:59):
probably a little bit better offensive club than the Nationals.
So we'll we'll see how it plays out. But again,
the Rangers have to feel good every day going to
the ballpark that they're going to win a game or
have a chance.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
Right, and it starts with the starting rotation thirty seven
days until the All Star break. What would a successful
road trip at this point do for this club?

Speaker 5 (39:25):
Well, you know, they need to they need to sweep
to have a winning road trip overall, and that's that's
just going to be hard to do. But they could
win this series when back to back series. Know that
in Tampa Bay they really blew two games, basically two
games that they should have won and didn't you know
they could. They could feel really good about that. Then
they come home and you know, the White Socks are

(39:47):
playing better, I guess, but it's still still the White Sox.
You know, you need to win. You need to win
that series. And then the Royals after that. And the
Royals are kind of like the Rangers. They're not schol
weren't a ton of runs, although I think they got
seven to day, and their pitching has been really really good,
so you know, that could be a lot of two

(40:08):
to one ball games. Who knows? Those are the Rangers
favorites going home and then they go and then they
go back on the road, but they go to Pittsburgh
and Baltimore and they're not They're not very good teams
right now. So if they can avoid Paul Skiings, you know,
they go, Hey, they got to like their chances there,
although the Pirates keep losing those Paul Skiing starts. I'm
not sure how I went today. He started in Pitchford

(40:29):
really well, I think no.

Speaker 6 (40:31):
I saw a hilarious tweet.

Speaker 4 (40:32):
I was going to bring it up in like batt
and clean up, but it said it's really hard to feel.

Speaker 5 (40:36):
Bad for like twenty year old John mentioned that the
other day dating.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
A model got to sign like almost a billion dollar contract.

Speaker 6 (40:42):
But man, you feel bad, you do, And.

Speaker 5 (40:47):
I don't know. The Pirates aren't gonna be able to
afford that, So at some point they're gonna have to
trade him, probably not probably probably three years this season,
maybe two more and then and then work out of trade.
But they've kind of hit a stretch here in the
schedule where there's a chance to to kind of take

(41:07):
off a little bit here, you know. I mean, the
Nationals aren't good, and the Rangers won this series the Twins.
All right, it's gonna be tough. But then again White
Sox Royals who have a good record but are doing
it the way the Rangers are going about it. Then
the Pirates, then the Baltimore's and the Baltimore So you

(41:28):
got to feel pretty good short term.

Speaker 6 (41:30):
Twice because it goes Seattle and then Baltimore.

Speaker 5 (41:33):
Oh really yeah, Well then you get it to chance
to play the team that's a hit, a team that's
ahead of you in the division. And then the the
Orioles at home, so a good, a good friendly stretch here.
Then they go to the Padres, Angels, Astros, All Star Breys,
so you know, there's some opportunity to make upground and

(41:53):
they really need to. This is where they need to
be good. This is where, uh you know, because if
they're going to get back into the thickest things here
and if they're going to show positive signs that the
offense has headed the right way, they need to do it. Now.
The trade deadline this year falls on July thirty first.

(42:13):
It should always be on July thirty first. I don't
know why they started doing it like any time between
these two days. Maybe to give MLB people a day off,
I don't know, But it's the thirty first this year,
so you got to figure that at the All Star break.
And then they come out of the All Star Break
against the Tigers, so they've got to you know, they've
got to play well going into the All Star break

(42:34):
and probably the two series after to really convince ownership
of what to do. So this is a this is
a big stretch. This is a really big stretch for
the Rangers, and the schedule kind of kind of favors them,
gives is giving them a chance to win some ball games.

Speaker 4 (42:53):
Yeah, what's so, what do you think is with the
the mental side of like three All Star post All
Star for these players, because like Josh Smith last year,
you know, there was like a there was a difference, Yeah,
from free to post.

Speaker 5 (43:09):
Yeah, you know, no, in his case last year, he'd
never played that much, right, so you know, you figure
he'd be better equipped for doing that. And a lot
a lot of a lot of rookies will run into that.
You know. In Langford's case, let's say he took off
in September. You know, maybe he finally felt comfortable. He
you know, he was off the day he needs to

(43:29):
start feeling comfortable again. It really is kind of weird
how they have sometimes just dramatic splits, but sometimes, you know,
it gives you a chance to catch your breath. These guys,
if they're not on the All Star Game, they all
try to get out of town and and and catch
their breath for a little bit, get away from the
game as much as possible, reset as much as they

(43:50):
can and come back. But there's something to it, you know,
and a lot of times it is who you're playing
a lot of time. It is the schedule, the dog
days on an experience team usually gets through the dog
days a little bit better if you're starting pitching is
held up. That's another key factor as far as a
team's success. Individual success. Yeah, sometimes it's just you know,

(44:13):
a bad break here there or a good break here
there and leads to a good or bad second half.
So but but these these games, if they're high leverage games,
the Rangers have experience now of doing that, having done
it in twenty four and kind of scrape their way
into the playoffs, kind of skidded there at the end.
I think they have a they're they're just positioned to

(44:35):
be good. We just keep saying it and saying it
and saying it. This team should be a lot better
than it is, and it's not. But maybe things are
gonna start, you know, sun starts smiling on the dog's butt.
Maybe maybe, maybe maybe things are are getting ready to change.

Speaker 4 (44:52):
For what a way to end that third segment? That
should that that might be on a shirt, Jeff? All right, Well,
where you're going to back clean up around things happening
in Major League baseball and stick with us.

While you were at it, you're here, you're listening to
these post games. I saw one guy in a chat,
don't remember whose it was, but he was like, I
have a lock on my computer from like eleven to two.
He's like, it's DLA sports all day long.

Speaker 5 (46:12):
Well, I know that's awesome.

Speaker 6 (46:13):
If you're a sports fan, this is the one stop shop.

Speaker 5 (46:16):
It is and if you're a die hard, you can
read all of our copy. We're not just podcasts. We
have experienced reporters. I mean, Clarence Hill has been covering
the Cowboys longer than I've been alive, forever, longer than
you've been alive. You know. Sam Nesler, it was his
first year covering the Stars, but he's covered NHL teams.

(46:37):
Tim Cato has been a fixture on the mass beat
I think since he was a teenager. I've been doing
this for a long long time too, So it's it's season.
It's seasoned reporters. We know what we're doing. We're good
at our jobs. And you can become a die hard
by scanning if you're watching the QR code on the screen,
or you can go to all dls dot com slash

(46:59):
join and join seventy nine to ninety nine a year,
pretty cheap, and they have.

Speaker 4 (47:04):
Good deals too, so if you want to hold out,
I don't know when the next one is, but we
just had one of them and it was like how
much for.

Speaker 5 (47:10):
The It was thirty six dollars.

Speaker 6 (47:12):
Yeah, cheaper than a shirt, less.

Speaker 5 (47:14):
Than half same price as a shirt, so you get
a free shirt when you're a die hard. I'm wearing
the Texas Diehard shirt today.

Speaker 6 (47:21):
Think that is that one Rad's favorite.

Speaker 5 (47:24):
I think he likes the Texas shoe. I don't know.
I think he just got this one. But anyway, these
shirts are great. Stored at All citynetwork dot com. Hats
are coming soon. We keep asking about the hats. My
Hall of Fame hat is starting to show some wear
and tear, so I could use a refresh on the
hat side. So when those get here, that'll just be
more money out of my pocket. Monarch money can help

(47:45):
me with that. But right now, stored out All citynetwork
dot com, I am officially fifteen shirts, two sweatshirts.

Speaker 4 (47:55):
You definitely have the most. I think Owen might have
the second most.

Speaker 5 (48:00):
Okay, well, rangers are better than stars, all right, oh.

Speaker 4 (48:05):
All right, all right, we're going to keep it moving. Hey,
we've got a question in the chat.

Speaker 5 (48:10):
Missy misty, Yeah, tons of questions.

Speaker 4 (48:13):
Yes, When when did Jeff get his first Hall of
Fame ballot?

Speaker 5 (48:18):
My first Hall of Fame ballot was the Pudge Roderiguez year.
Oh yeah, so it worked out well. I voted for him.
Uh yeah. And if if everybody wants to take a
shot at me or not, I always I always voted
for the steroid guys. Not that I'm accusing Pudge of that,

(48:38):
but I remember getting an email I think it was
from Joe Morgan that year saying that there are some
people on the ballot and who've gotten into the Hall
of Fame. Who we know you steroids? Well, Joe, nobody
knows for sure, but anyway, baseball profited, the Hall of
Fame profited from the steroid guys. So I voted for
him because you can't be a hypocrite. You can't get you.

(48:59):
You can't have your cake, need it too, all right,
you gotta you gotta eat the bad cake too, all right.
Leon Nathan Valdie update, we have done that one this
home stand early in this homestand CJ. Corvello, Yeah, you know,
it sounded like he was going to be the guy
that get to get called up and they stuck with
Chris Martin rather than adding him to the active roster

(49:22):
and putting Martin back on the IL. It worked for
a game. He's been really, really good. He did not
he did not allow a run in May. That's pretty good.
He's got like a one sixty three e r A.
I think this year at Round Rock in a pitcher
friendly league, so that's good. He was the Rangers like
first free agent signee, even though he had never pitched
above Double A. He got a major league deal. So

(49:45):
a lot of teams bought highly of Luis and he
signed with the Rangers. So there you go.

Speaker 6 (49:52):
How about Bradford.

Speaker 5 (49:54):
Bradford, he's throwing bullpen sessions, He's nearing live batting practice.
He could be he could do that maybe this week
or maybe right when they get home. And if he
does that, he's got to do that two or three
times and then it's rehab assignment. So you know, you're
kind of looking at maybe before the All Star break

(50:15):
if they want to bring him back as a reliever.
I mean, he doesn't need to get stretched out that far.
He'd probably gets stretched out the three innings, I think,
because he could give them a lot of handy innings
out of the bullpen. So Bradford at that point, who
and Sports Sports is kind of on the same track
as Bradford. So you could be talking about two pretty

(50:36):
good arms coming back to the Rangers bullpen before the
All Star break. John Gray's a little further behind them.
And you know, amid all that kerfuffle, a couple a
couple innings a couple of weeks ago or earlier this
week about Kamar Rocker going to the bullpen. John Gray,
let's go ahead and say that he's going to be

(50:57):
in the bullpen. He is throwing off a flat ground.
I don't know. I don't I didn't see him pitch
two innies. I don't know that he's been off a
mound yet. Frankly, he the last time we talked to him,
he was like, no, I'm just backing up a little
bit every now and then. He had not been off

(51:17):
a mound yet. And this was as of let's say,
started the last homestand so I don't if he advanced
to a bullpen session, it's news to me and I'm
not going to doubt you. But I also doubt that
he would have gone out and thrown that many pitches
in his first or second bullpen session. But he feels great.

(51:38):
He did say that the ligaments around the fracture were
a little stiff in store, still stiff and sore. So
he's dealing with that. But I think he's on board
and understands that his fastest way back to the team,
and perhaps where he could make the most impact would
be as a relief pitcher. I think it, yeah, I

(52:01):
mean he's been so good in the World Series and
then a couple of times he's done it.

Speaker 6 (52:05):
Just a longevity plan if you really think about it.

Speaker 5 (52:08):
Well, yeah, and then he becomes a free agent after
this year, so it would make it pretty interesting, really,
you know. I could he be a starter, could he
be a reliever? He probably would want to be a
starter just for finances, financial purposes. But if he could
be a badass relief pitcher, hey, who knows?

Speaker 6 (52:27):
I know a few.

Speaker 5 (52:28):
Yeah, And there were some other questions. I saw Uncle
Ted who was talking about Cold Drake, and Ted, I
hear you. We talked about Cole Drake. I talked about
him with Ross and also Mitch Bratt, who different left handers.
Bratt is actually having better results than Cold Drake in

(52:50):
terms of earned runs and such. Cole Drake is more
of a strikeout guy, throws a lot of strikes. Mitch
Bratt throws like an incredible amount of strikes and knows
how to pitch. So, but neither of those guys is
going to be under consideration until they go to Triple A.
I was told that their rangers are unlikely to skip
a level with them, even though they have some serious

(53:14):
questions about their their rotation depth right now, you know
their rotation depth basically is Kumar Rocker, who just got
sent down and has to stay down unless there's an injury.
Or Dane Dunning, who isn't on the forty man. Yeah,
there's there's your son, Gharibido, who at this point, I'm
pretty convinced he has compromising photos of Rangers executives because

(53:39):
there's no reason for him to be on the forty man.
He's getting beat around. There's no way that a team
would claim him. Yes, he has options, and that's very
attractive to get this young guy with the big arm
that has options. But he's twenty nine, all right, and
there's a reason why he was out of organized baseball
for two years, all right. He was a nice story

(54:00):
last year, but he has like a nine ERA at
Triple A. I don't think he's going to get claimed, so,
but anyway, that doesn't help the Rangers have thin rotation depth.
I would think that Bratt and Drake could be moved
to Triple A soon and that would help their chances

(54:24):
of helping the big league club, But not until they
pitch in Triple a and that's just what I was told.

Speaker 6 (54:29):
Yeah, I think that's a pretty smart move. Guess who
was about to join the three thousand club? Who certain
Clayton Kershaw?

Speaker 4 (54:37):
Oh, yes see, I think said he's seventeen strikeouts away.

Speaker 6 (54:42):
Okay, three thousand.

Speaker 5 (54:43):
He pitched today Kershaw did.

Speaker 4 (54:45):
Yes, there's currently nineteen members. The last to join Max Sureser.

Speaker 5 (54:51):
Hey, there you go, all right? You know Max Max?
Max traveled with Tampa with Toronto. He was at the
ballpark the other day and you know, he would go
and talk to He talked to boats you one day,
talked to Graham one day and came over and talked
to the guys and they were stretching. He's not doing anything.
I think he's on the sixty day with this, you know,

(55:12):
continued problem. None of us went and talked to him, though,
the reporters and he was a good guy, very helpful.
Some people were annoyed by him. And it's basically the
same questions over and over again, Max, what's wrong with you?
And he gave answer, Yeah, he'll tell you. But none
of us, uh made time to go see him, which

(55:33):
I don't know. I guess I kind of regret at
this point because he's going to be in the Hall
of Fame, and again he was helpful to us and
a good guy.

Speaker 6 (55:39):
Never said last year.

Speaker 5 (55:41):
You know, I can't imagine it's not his last year.

Speaker 4 (55:43):
Yes, I just well, he's doing the you know, the
chase with Orlander and strikeouts.

Speaker 5 (55:49):
I think these are going great for him either for Lander,
although I guess he threw like a thirty or forty
pitch Live VP the other day and is getting closer
to returning to the Giants, I tell you what. Speaking
of the NL West, Patrick burn or Corbyn Burns hit
the Tommy John surgery. He's gonna have Tommy John surgery.

(56:09):
He was a huge signing for the Diamondbacks from Scottsdale
or lives in Scottsdale. They they shelled out a lot
of money, pretty creative contract. I think he had options
to get out of it, but very clearly he's not
going to be getting out of it now and he's
probably not going to be back until late late next season,

(56:30):
if at all next season. So that's kind of a bummer. Yeah,
you know, he hadn't He hadn't. I don't think he'd
ever been on the I l he'd always made his starts,
and so Tommy John got him. And that's too bad
because he always always liked to see the best guys
on the on the mound, the best players in the lineup,
like Mike Trout being back and being hot is great
for baseball. So that kind of stinks. But you know,

(56:55):
and and that's going to affect the West, you know,
I mean that that really is. The Diamondbacks have pretty
good rotation without Burns, but not having him. You know,
when you have to go up against let's say, I
don't know, Logan web for the Giants, or if you
have to go up against U Dylan Ceese or whenever

(57:17):
you darbage you gets back, or you know, Yamamoto for
the Dodgers, who themselves are ravaged by pitching injuries. It
just makes makes it a little bit harder on you
to make the postseason. So it's too bad for baseball,
too bad for the Diamondbacks if you're a Diamondbacks fan
out there. But yeah, that one, that's a that's a
pretty big blow for the for the for the game,

(57:40):
and for the Diamondbacks.

Speaker 4 (57:41):
Also for the NL Central. We mentioned feeling bad for
Paul Skins, uh huh. But It's true today seven and
two thirds, two hits, zero runs, one walk, seven k
he ended up with a no decision.

Speaker 6 (57:54):
His ERA is now one eight on the year.

Speaker 4 (57:57):
Yeah, one when last seven starts, it's just quite having
a one.

Speaker 6 (58:03):
A one to one ERA and.

Speaker 4 (58:05):
The seven starts. Man, is he gonna want to sy
Young with?

Speaker 5 (58:08):
Well, yeah, two wins? I mean, you know, obviously nobody
cares about the win anymore statistically speaking, pitchers care about it.
But you know, he just kind of look at Jacob
de Gram. Jacob de Gram, you know, one to cy
Young with like eleven wins one year twelve wins. It

(58:29):
was it's ridiculous how how well he pitched. Let's let
me let me get that for sure up here. So yeah,
I mean I think it's possible, but it's not the
player's fault that his team is. His offense is so bad.
I mean, maybe we're saying this about Nathan Valdi or
Jacob mcgram later. Can they win a cy Young even
though they only have nine wins or whatever. De Grom

(58:53):
had a one seventy ERA in twenty eighteen and won
ten games.

Speaker 3 (58:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (58:58):
The next year he had a one to eleven games
won the cy young both years, So it's possible for sure,
but it's got to be that it's got to be
that dominant it's and and Skens appears to be headed
that way.

Speaker 6 (59:11):
Man crazy though, you know.

Speaker 5 (59:12):
And the Pirates, you know kind of you know, they're
kind of like the A's, you know, they kind of
gave you like some false hope, you know. They they
went out and made some moves, and they've acquired some
good young players and and and have some good young talent,
and then they just are kind of spitting the bid here.
And they didn't win a Day's game though, they didn't

(59:33):
win that game two to one over the Phillies, who
are pretty good, but you know, you you you kind
of we were kind of let on by them, I
think this year. And the A's to the A's, I
think beat the Orioles, who are terrible. But the A's
have really gone down down the drain here. Some of
their young guys like JJ Blede, who had the nice

(59:54):
year last year you just called, got called back up.
But it just hasn't worked out for them, And I
don't know, just kind of maybe we should all learn
our lessons.

Speaker 4 (01:00:05):
Yeah, you would think, you would think, Misty asked kind
of a fun question, Abby, do you have any memories
of your dad when he got his three hundredth career save.
I bring this up because it was against the Minnesota Twins.
So it was in September sixteenth of two thousand and seven.

Speaker 6 (01:00:25):
I was actually in.

Speaker 4 (01:00:25):
School, so we would like split the season and we
would get out of school earlier, go to school a
little bit late, but we were in school at this point.
I do remember we as a family were coming up
with a really creative way to celebrate his three hundredth.
So we made like this art project out of baseballs
for the three hundred. My mom flew out to be
there for the occasion and whatnot. I was with my grandparents,

(01:00:49):
I believe when it actually happened. But did happen in Minnesota?

Speaker 5 (01:00:53):
So you were how old in two thousand and seven?

Speaker 6 (01:00:55):
Oh, that's a lot of math at the moment. I'm
going to go with like nine or ten.

Speaker 5 (01:01:02):
Yeah, okay.

Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
Ellis a prophet and I are the same age, so okay,
his math might be better than mine.

Speaker 5 (01:01:08):
So you weren't just scribbling, you were we were able
to Yeah, you know, do some do.

Speaker 6 (01:01:14):
Something, do something pretty nice?

Speaker 5 (01:01:15):
Yeah, Okay, good.

Speaker 4 (01:01:18):
But yeah, and then Nathaniel Lowe good to see, good
to see a former Andrew Chaffin forgot.

Speaker 5 (01:01:23):
That, Yeah, Andrew Chafin.

Speaker 6 (01:01:25):
Uh, baseball is such a small world, you know.

Speaker 5 (01:01:27):
It really is. It really is. Yeah. And and you
know Nate low he looks just kind of like the
same the same, same guy.

Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
He's going to be a dad this year, and his
wife expecting a baby too.

Speaker 5 (01:01:39):
Not wasting any time because they just got married ago. Yeah, well, hey,
why waste the time?

Speaker 6 (01:01:47):
Finds of dad's strength?

Speaker 5 (01:01:49):
Yeah, he could use a little strength. He's he uh,
he's kind of built like me. And that's sound a
good thing.

Speaker 6 (01:01:58):
Do you think he's an orange theory guy?

Speaker 5 (01:01:59):
No, I don't know that he's anything.

Speaker 6 (01:02:03):
Jeff, Oh my goodness. Okay, so it is.

Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
It's not the middle of summer, but summer started, which
means NBA Finals over time. We are going to continue
the conversation online. Thank for joining the d l LS
Rangers podcast.

Speaker 6 (01:02:18):
Are we good?

Speaker 5 (01:02:19):
We're good, and keep going.

Speaker 6 (01:02:21):
We'll make this kind of short. Basketball and hockey.

Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
Last year, Oh my gosh, Elijah and I were working
the finals. It's a great time and I'm going to
not try to cry this year. It's a thunder of
the Pacers. Who you got currently thunder They're up one?

Speaker 5 (01:02:37):
Oh no, the Pacers won that game.

Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
Yeah, Pacers, Sorry, come crazy, comeback one.

Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
Well, I mean if if when I don't know anything
about either team, and I don't really know anything about
these guys. I mean, I know some of the names
because thanks to the sleeper app, but uh, I think
it boils down to coaching, and Rick Carlisle is a
really good coach. So I'm going to go if I
want to go with old Brick Carlisle to win his
second title. And Jim Carrey a little Jim Carrey. I

(01:03:06):
had to cover the MAVs once for the fourth paper,
and I introduced myself to him, said, yeah, it looks
like I'm gonna be covering this team for you know,
covering baseball and MAVs. He goes, well, I guess you
needs my phone number. He just gave me his phone number.
So he was a very way to do business. He
was a very very friendly guy in that regard, easy

(01:03:27):
to cover, understood what what writers have to do. So okay,
I'm going to root for him. And I don't like
Chet Holgrom. That's that skinny guy oddly specific. Yeah, I
don't like Chet Holgram at all. I went went to Gonzaga,
who I really don't care for. I think their phony
and uh I think that uh, I mean, he's he's

(01:03:48):
he's this tripod is thicker than Chet Holgren. So I
think that I'm against Chet.

Speaker 6 (01:03:54):
All right, Chet, that was Elijah and I are. That
was oddly specific.

Speaker 4 (01:03:59):
Jeff, Well, I'm gonna pull for the Thunder. I came
from Bally and we were Bally Southwest and Oklahoma, so
I've watched the Thunder for the last four years. Okay,
really fun team all right, really good team s JA
won the MVP, so I'm going to go down that road.
Although it's not like a rivalry, but it's it was
always a good series matchup with Okay, see in the Maps, however, Okay,

(01:04:24):
Luca or that was Luca post Luca and it's a
different vibe.

Speaker 5 (01:04:27):
Well, I guess that Cooper Flagg is working out with
the Mans this. You know, I'm looking looking forward to
that because I think.

Speaker 6 (01:04:33):
He's the Maps might be God's favorite.

Speaker 5 (01:04:35):
I think he I think he has a chance to
be better than Luca. Uh, he's he's just he's just great.
He probably doesn't shoot the deep ball as well, but
he's a better defender, like he was the best defensive
player in college basketball this year. Yeah, and he can
he can do it all.

Speaker 6 (01:04:54):
And he's you want to have any to Jeff, I'm just.

Speaker 5 (01:04:58):
I'm just going that's that's how I feel, all right,
So I wanted to do this. Oh sorry, it's not
really hockey, you know, I don't know. I don't know
that I care.

Speaker 4 (01:05:08):
Okay, Well, I'm going to go with the Panthers. A
local former ballet employee was Southwest is their team reporter?

Speaker 5 (01:05:16):
Oh well, Katie Inglestate, she just.

Speaker 6 (01:05:18):
Won a ring with them last year. Yeah, it wou'd
be two for two.

Speaker 5 (01:05:21):
I like Katie, always like Katies.

Speaker 6 (01:05:23):
Great girl. So we're gonna go with the Panthers. There
she went to Alabama, right, she went to Obama.

Speaker 5 (01:05:26):
There you go, all right, Jake Berger after this series
batting two twenty three, two fifty five on base four
twenty slug six seventy five ops, nine homers, twenty five
RBIs Nathaniel.

Speaker 6 (01:05:43):
Low Oh you want to make a point.

Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
No, I'm just comparing them, Okay, two thirty one, two
ninety five three seventy two six sixty seven eight home runs,
So advantage very very very slightly to Jake Berger if
you go by o ps and home runs.

Speaker 6 (01:06:01):
I've missed the first part was that on specifically the series.

Speaker 5 (01:06:04):
Or no, that was his overall Jake Berger has only
six walks. Yeah, that's gotta be better. You know, Nate
Low will Nate Low will draw w wash, but he's
struck out more than than Jake has as well. So, uh,
this trade, you know, that seems to be a wash.
The Robert Garcia edition makes it advantage Rangers. Plus they

(01:06:26):
saved a bunch of money. So anyway, that's where that's
where that stands, and that's a good way to sign off.
Advantage Rangers vantage Rangers.

Speaker 4 (01:06:38):
There you go, all right, thanks for joining us this Sunday.
We will be back with you tomorrow Monday.

Speaker 5 (01:06:44):
Fine the man.
