Speaker 1 (00:01):
So glad you guys are spending you on a neighbor
day weekend with all of us here on six to
ten WTV and on RALL and we're going to be
joined by a former Buckeye defensive end, Matt Fvenkas, who
has just come up with a brilliant idea and Boots,
I know you and Matt go way back.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, he's been a good guy in my career too.
He's helped me like you have all you local legends
have helped the old Boots. He thank you, Matt.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Do you hear him? Do you hear him? What's he wanted?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Pretty sick? What does he want? Throw him on?
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Hey, before we talk about your brilliant idea this behind
the O app, we got to get your thoughts about
the game. What do you think the first game of
the season beating Texas?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yeah, I think that they came out and played really well.
You know, talk to a number of people last week,
thought this was going to be a really close game.
Ended up being a really close game. You kind of
got the feeling though that Ohio State was the better
team throughout that game, just hadn't really you know, capitalized
or really let things fly. You got a new quarterback there,
so I understand kind of the apprehension and you know,
(01:05):
not opening up the playbook here, you had a lead,
You're being pretty effected. Your defense was tremendous all day long,
and it didn't look like Texas was threatening too much
to blow things open. So yeah, I mean, I'll say,
you what for a young quarterback who's you know, nineteen
years old to come into that situation and be able
to come out of there with a win and play solid.
And you know, most importantly what killed Texas was the turnovers, right,
(01:27):
so you know we avoided those and they had them.
So I mean that's that was a big difference.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
I think if we had our receivers they need I
usually try not to pick on one position, but our
receivers dropped.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Five easy first gaming season.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
No I know, but I think the receiver coach was
ticked in the hawker room afterwards because some of them,
they were hitting them right in the chest. I can
even catch those.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
You remember Jeremiah Smith's first first target last year, he
dropped it, yes, and he went on to do okay,
So let's let's see what happens here in game two.
I got a feeling that he's going to about back in.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Ther Sorry for arch Manning, but that's the mom and me.
You know, I think a good kid.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
I think he's a great kid. I think the media
taken them won't be nice.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
He'll be He's going to be a good quarterback, tough.
I mean, you know, here's the thing. I mean, again,
arch Man You've got a twenty year old kid. You're
going up against the NFL defensive coordinator in the shoe,
and you've got yeah on the road, and you've got
NFL guys across from you. I mean, you've got Cale
down is probably the best player in the country. You
got some really good linebackers and safety. They did a
(02:36):
lot to confuse and try to really disguise what they
were doing with them. So I think that, you know,
that's a tough test for that guy. He'll be okay.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yeah, he grew up fast yesterday. All right. So I
want you to tell Boots and all of our listeners
about this behind the O app. It is really really
cool man.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah, I appreciate him, and and thanks for having me
on to talk about it. You know, we're excited about this.
It's you know, kind of our soft launch has been
rolling out over the past couple of weeks. It's going
to really be starting to be pushed out heavily here
in the month of September. But what it is, that's
the way for Buckeye fans to connect to and to
find all of their Ohigh State information in one place. So,
I mean, it's very It's a social media app. It's
(03:15):
an open social media platform, so anyone can sign up
post what they want on there. You know, we want
them to keep it about Ohio State. We don't want
cat videos and recipes on there. We're trying to make
this all about the Bluck Eyes and not just not
just O high state football. You know, We've got athletes
from you know, a number of the of the sports
across the spectrum. Gymnastics, softball, baseball, track and field, wrestling,
(03:37):
you know, you name it, and we've got athletes that
are going to be on there, you know, kind of
posting about their day to day lives and posting about
what they go through as a student athlete, you know,
the travel, the training. You know, sometimes it's just hanging
out with their friends, you know, sometimes it's watching the
Ohio State game. You know, from the from the hotel
room that as they're on the road. Is what we
did with our volleyball players last yesterday, So it gives
(04:01):
people a sense of what happens and a little bit
behind the scenes with these student athletes, and then just
what Buckeye fans are going through as well. So a
lot of great content on there yesterday from game day
from our fans and from our students out there that
are posting stuff. So as it grows and as it
continues to get better and better, it'll just be more
Buckeye information, which everybody loves.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
So they teach you, guys not to pay attention to critics.
So are you going to filter the criticism because I
would feel bad for you know, like I mean, I
feel guilty even saying they drop those five balls, let
alone getting on a media platform and not into attacking them.
Can you stop that?
Speaker 3 (04:36):
No? So, I mean it is an open media platform.
We can turn some comments on and off for people
as well. You know, we're trying to foster a good
and you know, in a healthy environment for everybody, and
you know, we're hoping Buckeye Nation takes that to heart.
But we do have some parameters and some controls to
be able to stop you know, fan, the crazy fans
from getting on there and attacking student athletes. Absolutely, but yeah,
(04:59):
I mean we hope at the end of the day,
this is just an open and fun platform for these
kids to be able to earn some NIL money, right,
so paying them to be content contributors. So in this
new era, you know, we're allowed to be to do
that and to allow them to earn a little money
while they're out marketing themselves and showing kind of a
little bit behind the scenes of what they do. And
(05:20):
we're also you know, making donations back to NIL, both
on the for profit side and the nonprofit side. So
we'll be contributing a portion of our net profits back
to NIL at Ohio State, not just again for the
football and basketball programs and for the revenue share programs,
but for all the sports that are participating across the.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Board, right And he's making that revenue from ads and stuff.
So it's free for anybody to download this app. I'm
just so mad at you, Matt, that you didn't create
this last year or the year before.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
As I know, a really good.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Player help in us. Yeah, Cammy's been great helping us,
you know, she signed us up a softball player. But
I told her, you know, and I told you the
admitted was like, man, this would have been perfect for her.
She was all about that offline the time. But yeah,
I think, But yeah, I mean that's a great example.
I mean, someone like like Candy and that can go
out and you know, build a social media platform or following,
(06:09):
and we allow them to monetize it immediately. So you know,
it's not like you've got to build you know, a
million Instagram followers for us to being able to monetize
it for you. We can do it immediately. And again
it's all Google ad revenue and YouTube ad revenue base.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
What a great idea.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, you make two categories there. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Yeah, So I mean the.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Nio guardrails of making everything market based, so it's not
just we're not paying you know, hundreds of thousands of
dollars for a couple of autographs. It's all market based stuff.
So it passes all the smell tests of the of
the new and Io platform. And again it just it
allows them to make some money and market themselves as
they go through their college experience.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
All right, we're up against time and break here, but
tell people where they can go get this free behind
the O app.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Absolutely yeah, any app store, whether you're an Apple or
Google Play, go in there and search the next level
behind the O or just behind the O and it'll
come up. Download it and it is totally free. There's
no paywall, there's no subscription. All you got to do
is get on there and scroll when you're generating nil
for athletes. So it's free for fans and nil for athletes.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Yeah. I always say it's free. It's me Matt Fingus defensive.
Then thanks buddy for joining us, and we'll talk to
you maybe down the road to see how you feel.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
All right, Thanks brothers, all right, all right, Raw Minion
