Speaker 1 (00:01):
Back from vacation. You hear jummy Buffett, And don't you
just think a vacation. Don't you just think of drinking
a margarita, putting your toes in the sand and your
booty on the sand as well? Fun to go on vacation,
But it's as great as vacations are. Don't you guys
think it's always better to come home. I mean that's
how I feel, Zach. You feel that way being a
family man, I mean, seven kids.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
There's nothing like our giant bed. When we got married
and start we knew we're gonna have a lot of kids.
My wife was like, we need the biggest bed we
can find. I was like, really, why, because I want
all the kids in our bed. Whenever they want, do.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
They come out there? Do you sleep with all those kids?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
We don't sleep on them all, but they they'll sometimes
wine up with three in a night, you know. Whenever
in the middle of the night they come into our bed.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
We just let them fall asleep in our bed. But
that was that movie too with Steve Martin. Was it
Father of the Bride or another or no, what was it? No,
he had all these kids and they all the time
would sleep all in their bed and when they were
not with the kids, they had all these pillows representing
the kids. That's awesome. I can't think of it was.
It was a Steve Martin movie. Anyway, it was really
(01:04):
really well done. So lad you raised a little bit
of scuckus, I guess I could say, or something like that,
because you asked on Stand and Speak. You created a
post about there is a movement right now possibly the
Cleveland sports team, the baseball team considering bringing back the
Indians name and doing away with the Guardian's name. Tell
us a little bit about what you found.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
So I'm never stopped agitating to bring back the Indians
name back because I thought that was the stupidest thing ever.
But President Trump actually wide in and has weighed in
before on the Washington Redskins and commander's team name. He
mentioned a few weeks ago he said, we got to
change that name back. And so when you talk about
the Redskins, you got to talk about the Indians. Now.
(01:46):
The Cleveland Indians were one hundred and six year old
baseball franchise that my dad watched, I watched with him,
my brother watched.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
He used to tell me about Satchel Page and Larry
Dobie and Bob Feller. Those were the Cleveland in the
Cleveland Guardians doesn't mean anything to anybody. But they changed
the name back in twenty twenty after the George Floyd
death to bow to the woke, you know, to like, oh,
you know, to just say okay, yeah, we're going to
(02:15):
offend anybody will change this name. It didn't solve any problems,
it didn't save any lives.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
It just didn't make the team any better.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
So it's sure, well, you know the team is that
we call it the Indians, like we never stopped calling
it the Indians.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
I agree with you. I think the true blue people
who have followed this team for years, if not decades,
could never even say the word guards or Guardians come
out of their mouth because to them, it will always
be the tribe. It will always be the Indians. Cleveland
Sports Talk tweeted something out and it said help us understand,
and they put aloud and under the word allowed. They
(02:54):
have Kansas City for Kansas City Chiefs, they have Florida
State for the Seminoles, they have the Braves, and they
have the Chicago black Hawks. But they put not allowed
Redskins in the Indians.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yeah, and it's because those organizations said, you know, hey,
heck with you, man, We're not going to change our
name and throw another thing in there. There's the Spokane
Indians out in Washington. They're a single A baseball team. Now,
what they've done is they partnered with the local Indian
tribe to respect Native American heritage and partner with them.
And they have stuff around their little stadium about actual
(03:28):
Native Americans and Indians. So they kept their name. Why
couldn't the Cleveland franchise do that?
Speaker 1 (03:34):
So realistically you think it'll come back. I mean with
President Trump saying something, he's got a lot of pool.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
You know, who knows what momentum will bring. And there's
anti woke momentum with pushing out DEI of corporations and universities,
and people are tired of the woke. And you should
see the comments on the stand and speak channel for
this video. I mean, it's we're right there with you, buddy.
It was a dumb move and heck with the woke
(04:00):
and so on.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Six one four a two one nine eight eight six
six one four eight two one nine eight eighty six.
We want to know where you stand because you have
a chance to stand and speak Indians or guardians. Let's
go to the phone lines. Paul, you want to comment
on this. It's one of the topics we're talking about today.
Lad you have something else that's on your mind, Ernean,
(04:22):
how are you good?
Speaker 5 (04:24):
Paul?
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Thanks for calling in, Thanks for listening.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Now, Mendy, I can tell you you're crazy at a
softball game. But your daughter is an amazing softball player,
because because I saw my daughter play against your daughter.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
So I'll leave.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Oh wow, and you know, you know crazy.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, yeah, yes, my wife is crazy too. So it's okay,
it's all good. I love it, Okay, okay. The point
in the story is it's funny to me that all
these Indian groups look at the Washington Redskins. And I'm
sure you talked about before. I just tuned in. Sorry
I'm late, But the Washington Redskins, the tribe originally wants
(05:08):
the Redskins name back. They want the Washington Redskins to
be the Redskins, not the Washington Capitals or whatever they're
called today. They want them to be the Redskins. And
it's funny to me that how all this stuff goes.
But the one thing I wanted to call in today
about was I want people, I want you to have
(05:28):
a show about kids, children, well adult children that have
a family member with Alzheimer's and dementia, and how do
you make that person come live with you? Because you know,
the Indians thing doesn't matter to me. But the thing
(05:50):
is is how do you make your mom or dad?
How do you how I don't want to say make them,
but how do you convince them to come live with you?
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Paul.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
That's a great topic and I think that is something
that we really do need to tackle. And we were
at that stage toward the end of my own mom's
life where I was really trying to convince her to
just and she didn't have Alzheimer's. Her mind was great,
but her health was dwindling, and we wanted to be
able to be able to take care of her. Twenty
four to seven, Mom will live with us, you know,
(06:24):
because my sister and I, most of us were going
and staying the night at her house so much. But
we wanted to just make it easier and everybody live
with us. But sometimes the older you get, it's that
prideful thing and it does need some convincing and they
have to maybe see it. Oh, that's a tough, tough topic,
but Paul, you're right. I think that we could absolutely
(06:44):
divulge some time to talk about that. So thank you
for the idea, and we will definitely look to tackle
that a little bit later here on raw or maybe
even what matters right now there our phone lines are
blowing up a little bit. Thanks for a Paul for
calling in. Let's go to Caen Cayden real fast. What
do you vote for? Indians or the Guardians? Caden here
(07:07):
on the air. All right, we're gonna skip down to Andrew. Andrew,
same thing. We're going to take your phone call right now.
Are you leaning more toward the Indians or the Guardians?
Speaker 6 (07:19):
The Indians and I'll I'll pay you a few gosh
a few years ago after they changed the name to
the Guardians. And have you ever been in a situation
where you just feel so bad for somebody? So I'm
in this kind of mixed crowd and this couple has
a kid and you we're in a Cleveland he can
have been five years old. We're in a Cleveland Guardians
T shirt. And someone else standing near by looks at
the kid and says, hey, you know, that's supposed to
(07:42):
be the Indians. And I just felt so bad. The
kid didn't know what the guy was talking about. The
parents were dumbfounded. So yeah, bring back, bring back to
Indians and stop picking on kids, and stop.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Picking on kids. That's a big thing. Andrew, thank you
for calling in. We'll take another call.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Let's go to Phil.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Phil, this is obviously a hot topic for people, which
you found out lad on your own. Sorry, Phil, what
about you? What do you think?
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Well, well, I think it should be the Indians. And
they also ought to go back over the years and
change the names of all sports teams, college or pro.
They've had the the the fit of changing them to
away from Indians or or Warriors or whatever. They should
(08:28):
change everything back to what they were.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
That's a great point. Phil Stanford Miami.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Branford, Miami Redskins, Saint John's Red Men.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
That's a great point.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
You know what, Phil, I know one name that will
never change. You know what that is?
Speaker 5 (08:44):
What's that?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
The buck Eyes. They're just nuts. I don't care if
you're woke, not woe conservative, liberal, Buckeyes or Buckeyes, and
you can't change that name. Right, Zach.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
And if Brutus goes well, that's the.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
End of it.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Oh yeah, if Brutus goes awoke, we're all done. That's true.
He's notty enough, right, Yeah, it's Brutus. Well obviously a
very very good subject. Yeah, you always have time to
call in. I just randomly put it on my Facebook page.
I just wanted to put our phone number out there
and said, hey, call in. Let us know what you think.
Indians are Guardian Guardians. Everybody so far as common and
(09:21):
saying Indians, Indians, Indians, Indians, Indians, Indians. So you know what,
maybe it is something that will happen. Maybe President Trump
will have enough legs in this process to get the
name changed back.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
That would be fantastic.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
I think you'd make a lot more people happy than
disappoint them. Do you think any Guardians fan would be
disappointed that the name is going back to the Indians?
Do you think you're going to upset people? Just the
guy who had the idea, probably who did have the
idea originally.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Do we know? I don't know. They're named after Guardians
are named after these statues that are on a bridge
up there in Cleveland. That really doesn't mean anything to anybody. Yeah,
you know, so I think some of the more left
leaning fans they embraced the Guardians because you know, they
were doing something virtuous and not offensive. And maybe maybe
(10:11):
some young people who you know, that's the only name
that they know. But hey, they changed the name once,
they can change it back.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Did the players ever speak out against it? The name change?
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Originally they should have the name was wasn't It wasn't
the name to honor the first Native American baseball player
major League baseball player.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I believe so, Louis Saka Alexis Yeah, yeah, all right,
we need to take a break.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
But you know, another example was when they took Aunt
Jemima off It was the.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Same time Syrup Uncle Ben's. Yeah, it was at the
same time, same attitude.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
I think when you do things like that, you're overthinking it.
You know, Aunt Jemima's family was really offended when they
took her name off of that that was a big
honor for her at the time, in her family and
her heritage. So I think sometimes you just overthink things
to make things politically correct. Not necessary. It just doesn't necessary.
All right, we'll be back with much more. We're going
to hear more about. If you need a job, we
(11:04):
know the perfect place to apply, and you'll be happy
while you work. You're listening to six ten WTVN always
