Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're back for some more. Joe Schmidt's here peak retirement planning, Jimmy.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Yeah, it's great. Yeah, great to be here. Jim Everson
here with care Patra. Not much raw meat we're gonna have.
We're gonna have a lot of great information to share
this second hour. So yeah, it's great to see you.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Joe.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's been a while, and you know, I always enjoy
just sitting here and chatting with you and learning more
about peak retirements.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Absolutely, and that's what we're gonna be talking about today
is health and wealth, Right, how do we preserve our
life savings, especially during the turbament times when it comes
in our senior care that's needed towards a late years.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, I mean we're kind of you know, peanut butter
and jelly or right hand, left hand, because the big
thing is is you're helping families or people plan for
their future and the retirement. And you know we're here
to help when you know, their health changes and you
no longer safe at home or they're looking for assisted
living or memory care. So you know, we can help
more families that have the better financial planners such as you.

(00:55):
So that's that's really we compliment one.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
We hope we make your job easier. But we even
talk about something Jim, you've probably heard this before. We
talk about like because our clients, you know, there are
a lot of our clients are retiring earlier and there,
you know, late fifties and even sixties, and we tell
them that like, hey, that's probably the go go years
of your retirement. You probably see more people in the
you know, the the no go years, because it goes

(01:18):
from uh, you know, go go where you're healthy, you're traveling,
your spending, grandkids, your love and retirement. Then there becomes
a slogo where it's like all right, health is starting
to decline. I'm still okay, but starting to cline. And
then it comes into nogo where that's where really where
you step in and your team and how do we
help make sure we get that?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah, right, that's a great point.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
I mean, so the go go people right now, I
want to help your parents or family it's no longer
safe because you know it's the baby boomers now dealing
with their the generation of their their their mom and
dad or aunts, uncles, friends that just are no longer
safe or loses a spouse. But the no go side
I mean we help families.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
I just met with a.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Couple this week that's looking for independent living, you know,
but they want to plan a place where they can
have continual cares. So you know, I handpicked, you know,
some great option for him. But you know, just being
a certified senior advisor, I mean we're advocates for families,
but more importantly helping families for fourteen years here with
Columbus Care Patrol. I mean, you know, very similar to you.
You're an advisor, you're certified financial planner. I'm a certified

(02:16):
Senior advisor as well. I mean our goal was just
to be an advocate just like you.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, I think that's a big thing too. I mean,
you know, we're just talking about it too. Like, credentials
don't mean that you're the best person in the world
or that you know, even people don't without credentials could
still be good. But I think it's a great place
to start when looking for help. I mean we always
say this certified financial planner designation. If you're working with
an advisor who does not have that, then it's probably
not a good sign. Because only thirty percent of advisors

(02:44):
have that credential. It means that you studied all areas
of finance. So we've seen some advisors where they only
do investment management or maybe only do insurance, and it
may be just more of a cookie cutter approach, and
so we really try to encourage them to look at that.
But also that's going to show that someone you know,
is past a test, a seven hour test on that,
and it's going to be in more and rigors. And

(03:05):
I'm sure that's similar to fits exactly.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
I mean, but on top I mean care patrol or
franchise and there's two hundred and fifty offices across the country,
but you know they have a you know, they mandate
that we're you know, credentialed and they mandate we're you know,
bonded and insured.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
I mean, very similar to you.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
I mean I think that's you know, we're a lot
of word of mouth, so similar to you. But you know,
back to your peak retirement, I know you're big on
your five pillars, and maybe you can talk a little
more about your five pillars, cause I think that's the
key thing because you really focus on just you know,
structuring and planning for you know, all your.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Clients, and you know, the one of the big pillars there.
We're talking about today is that healthcare planning side of it,
where you know, it's first off, how do we have
health insurance up until age sixty five? So maybe someone's thinking, hey,
I'm going to retire at sixty and they're thinking, well,
now healthcare is going to cost a thousand plus a
month most likely, and so it's finding the right coverage
for that. You can look at things like affordable Care Acts,

(03:58):
which could be advantage just for the right person. It's
going to be based on their income if they choose that.
And then at sixty five, it's the Medica abcs and
you've got to decide, you know, what type of supplemental
Medica are you going to need? And there's a lot
of plans to choose from, and you want to make
sure you choose the right plan because there could be
a huge gap in coverage, and so we always help
people with those decisions. We have a Medicare specialist health

(04:20):
insurance specialists that we work with in house. And then
you know, there's a long term care side of it too,
like you know when average age of needing long term
cares about age eighty three, right, and Jim, you know
the cost of long term care. It's it's very significant
and there's many different ways you can get the care,
and I know that's where you step in.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
It help a lot.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yeah, and we can help even if someone if someone
has veteran history, served during the lack of time of war,
I mean, there's a lot of pensions if they could
qualify for that. So we also can help families. I mean,
because we're we obviously work with mostly communities that are
private pay, but you know we're you know, I work
with all the communites here in central Ohio. So my
knowledge is there someone only has one year, two years

(04:59):
of funds, you know, we can maybe point them in
the direction this is a better community option because if
you spend down and you qualify for a high Medicaid waiver,
you know, you can stay at this community and there's
only a handful. So you know, me being an advocate
and an advisor, you know, I can help just you know,
we're the easy button, but we're the fast pass, so
we can help you know, both sides.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
But and very similar to you.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I mean, you can help, you know, give people guidance
if they've gotten started later in life with financial planning.
So I mean you can still jump start them and
you know, give them some guidance if they have ten
years fifteen years of planning, you know ahead.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
So yeah, we always joke around and you know we
people always say.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Like, you know, one reason they work with us is
because you know, they want to not have to DII
why their retirement. You know, they always say, I've never
done this before. I want to go to a team
of experts and professionals who have done it before. And
I think when it comes to what you're doing with
people at that stage of life, it's a matter of
like could they go and find the senior care places

(05:56):
that they need to go to, Could they know if
they're getting to taken advantage of or not. Could they
know if it's the right setup or not. I mean
that's really where you can step in that they don't
have to worry about it because if if they're loved
one or you know that person is going through those
health you know that transition, they're probably not gonna want
to worry about that.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Yeah, I mean the most challenging thing is I mean
I think families they don't know where to start. It's
a very daunting task because and then on top. If
a crisis happens, they're they're busy with the crisis. So
you here a care patrol. I mean, our goal is
just to help with you know, you know, first of
all keeping your privacy, but more importantly keeping you in control.
So stay off the internets, don't call the communities on

(06:33):
your own, because you're really talking to someone that's incentivized
to getting you in the door, getting them in their
room or in their apartment, you know where. You know,
care Patrol is going to be neutral and we're going
to give you a plan that's best and you know,
we're going to keep the tel markers away from and
the same with peak you know, perform peak retirement at.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
The same thing. I mean, you're there to do what's
best for your clients.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Yeah, I'm sure if you put your your your name
and number and online in those scenarios you're getting called
like crazy said something they want to avoid out of it.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Yeah, we try to prevent that, and more importantly, we
meet with you, we'll tour with you, so we kind
of keep things very simple.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
So and you don't charge for it either, right. The
facilities are the ones that.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Yeah, I mean we're free resource you know, we've never
invoiced any families, but you know, our fee is generated
when we do our job and we help the families
find the right fit. And you know, the communities love
working with care Patrol because you know, we bring in
a family that's you know, qualified and ready and or
ready to put a plan together. So what's the best
way to call to get in touch with you for

(07:31):
peak retirement?

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah, we always tell people like if they've watched us,
they've heard us, they've looked into us. You know, they
can go to our website and they can schedule time
with us. But we really encourage people to get a
better feel for the level planning we do, whether that's
you know, looking at further in our website, reading our
books that we've gotten. If they go to our website,
we can send them a copy. It's Peak Retirement Planning
dot com. And then there's a YouTube video that we
do on on you know, financial topics as well. But

(07:54):
for Jim, we're who should they? This is me and
I need help?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yeah, if you call six one four eight eight eight
safe or go to Columbus dot Carepatrol dot com. You
can get on there, see our Google reviews, see YouTube review.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Of US or interview of US. So you know it's
very simple six one four eight eight eight safe.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
All right, that's an easy one. So we'll be right
back here. This is Jim Everson and Joe Schmidtz and
you're listening to Raw with many of boots. Always Protected
by the Undefeated. Meritica made tititle Tale from the Heartwin
Bank Studios on News Radio six to ten WTVN.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Well we're back on back again for more. Yeah, So
Jim here with Care Patrol and you know we're here
just to.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Help find seenior living options.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
But you know, Joe, I mean you're you're a natural
and you've been helping you know, clients for a long
time here, so I mean for financial planning. But you know,
I know we had you know, a lot of things
that we want to talk about. So I mean I'm
excited to you know, kind of you know, let people understand,
you know, what we can do. I mean, especially for
financial planning, you know, putting a plan together, and the
same with care Patrol when you're dealing with you know,

(09:29):
someone that is no longer safe at home or even
needing in home care. So that's you know, while we're
here and you know, we want people to give us
a call. I mean, put our numbers down and you
know we're free resource just to help you, you know,
give you a guidance.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
So yeah, and we're kind of talking about that, Jim
over break, like maybe fill us in, fill the listeners
in when someone reaches out to like, when someone needs help,
what is the process? What are you doing to make
them feel at ease and get the you know, find
them success.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
So I mean usually two different situations.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
One is someone's in a christ cys mode, someone's you know,
in the hospital discharging going to rehab and not safe
to go home, or someone's been you know, in home
and you're just wanting to put a plan together and
it could be a year plan out, you know, So
we try to decipher what the current need is. So
if it's a fast need and you need it done
within you know, forty eight you know hours, you know,

(10:19):
two three days, I mean we can help with that.
And again I always say we're the fast pass because
we can help, you know, coordinate, because if you call
Commune on your own, you're probably behind about you know,
twenty thirty other voice messages and you may not get
a callback for seventy two hours. When you call us,
I pick right up and I can get it right
to the community and get tour set up very quickly.

(10:40):
But really the process is, you know, you educate us,
educate care patrol on what your needs are for mom, dad,
or yourself even and then I can then come up with,
you know, kind of a plan and give you guidance
on you know, what you're needing. So if you're needing
assisted living, memory care, even in home care, you know,
we have home care companies that we know. There's hundreds

(11:01):
and hundreds of home care companies here and we work
with a handful. So I mean it's different than you.
I mean, when you're helping, you're doing the intake. You're
trying to figure out, you know, what's important to them
because that's all we're going to do. And then you know,
the key thing is is we're an advocate, you know,
for you and the family and making sure safe decisions
are made so you make the right decision the first time.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Yeah, and you said you had a client example you
wanted to share as well.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
So yeah, I mean I just had I mean great scenario.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
I mean, we helped so many families but one that
I you know, just recently helped is you know, two
sisters and living in New York City, had great accents,
great sweet people with their sister here in New Albany
had a crisis and was in rehab. And you know
that they knew about Care Patrol and out of New
York and they called me, and you know, they flew
in after I put a plan in place, after I

(11:47):
figure out what was important, and you know, we basically met,
We toured you know, three of the five communities that
I offered, and within a day, they put a deposit
down on one of the apartments that one of the
communities for their sister. And you know, took probably about
three or four weeks after that and they transitioner, got
her moved in and you know she's doing great right now.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
So it just those things make us feel great.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Makes me feel good that we were able to help
and you know, put a plan together and you know,
and being the easy button. So that's why you know,
you Care Patrol exists. So if you ever have a need,
I mean, we take questions, so just call us six
one four eight eight eight safe. But more importantly, no
question is a silly question. And you know we can
help just guide and you know, how about you, I mean,

(12:28):
give me a quick scenario. I mean, because you help
so many. I mean, you know, you've been.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
Growing so much since you've started.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Give us a little history on you know, you know,
peak retirement, and tell me a little bit about just
you know kind of it sounds like you're you're bringing
on a lot of advisors right now, so I know
you're in that growth mode right now.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Yeah, we're we're growing quite a bit and we've got
clients all across the country, but we've really got a
heart to serve here in Columbus, Ohio. We do a
lot of workshops in the community. We've we're on TV
quite a bit. Actually, Mindy, you know people watching this
It's Many and Boots show. So we do a lot
of segments on TV. We'd write articles in Kipling, or
we have a YouTube channel. I've written some books and

(13:04):
so we've got a lot of people that reach out
based on those mediums. And so a lot of people
reach out and they say, hey, this is a type of.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Planning I'm looking for.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
And you know a lot of people say they want
help with tax planning. So we work with the crowd.
We call them the Midwestern millionaire, and so it's hard
working people who are diligent savers and they're frugal, and obviously,
you know that crowd is better savers than there are spenders,
which means that when they get to retirement. You know,
most of our clients are in their fifties and sixties,
they're they're going to be in a great spot. I mean,

(13:33):
most of them have accumulated and assets total of a
million dollars or more. Their house is paid off or
close to it, They've saved in their retirement accounts, and
they find themselves in a place where they're going to
have an enjoyable retirement. And so now it becomes a
matter of what's the fulfillment, what's the purpose of that retirement. Again,
they're going to have a big tax problem, because you

(13:53):
know those people, taxes may be the biggest expense in
their retirement. So we do a lot of help with
that and then just really make sure they get everything
in place. And Jim, I know it's what we're talking about,
is just having a state planning documents in place. I
think for this crowd, especially, you know the crowd you
work with, you said, you don't necessarily work with those,
you know, you mostly work with the children in the

(14:14):
family because their parents are the ones that are needing care, correct.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Right, I mean a lot of times and this is
one thing that you know, just by reaching out to
care Patrol here, we can help because the toughest question
is you know, approaching mom or dad. You know, a
lot of times, you know, I have a scenario where
my father said, hey, when this happens, I'm you know,
this is what I want to do. And so we're
putting a plan together for them. But there's a lot
of you know, you know individuals and parents that are

(14:39):
just resistant. They want to stay at home, but being
at home, they're not social, they're declining, and every time
you see them, you're concerned about them, and you know,
once they go down and unravel, it's like what do
you do? So having that plan in place, but you know,
we have a great guide if you contact care Patrol
here and we can actually just give you a great
guide that you know is you know, gives you good

(15:00):
topics to talk about being on their side and just
you know, being concerned about them. But you can kind
of you know, put away the resistance but just you
make them look and know that you just are concerned
and you care, and we got to come up with
a plan. You don't have to do it right this minute,
but it's always about proper planning.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
So yeah, and that's what we always encourage, is like
people with that any stage of life, anyone eighteen or
old or needs a state planning documents in place, and
so just the basic power of attorneys. You know, who's
going to make those decisions financially and healthcare wise when
you no longer can or having that will in place,
who's going to be the executive or of all the decisions,

(15:35):
or you know, making sure you have potentially a trust
in place, or maybe you don't need a trust. You
could save some money and just do a TOD on
your property so that it transfers on death so you
can avoid probate. But I mean for this crowd specifically,
I mean, when you reach into into life, you got
to have those dialed in. You need to update your
estate plans, and so we'd always encourage people to get
that updated. But but you know, more importantly is like

(15:59):
you know, if it's no matter what your situation is,
you're going to need different documents depend on what the
situation you're in.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
So I love how we compliment on one another. I
mean how you're you're educating your clients on getting prepared
and then you know, once they have their plan in
place and our you know, things are calm for them,
but they're financially strong and their health declients and they're
you know, looking to you know, transition and find senior care.
You know, this is how you know, you know, we
we kind of compliment one another with Columbus Care Patrol.

(16:27):
But you know, one other thing that you were telling
me something I noticed. I know, I've come down and
presented to a group of your clients on you know,
senior care options.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
But you know, I what I learned and what I.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Like about peak retirement is is you have a team approach.
So you know, tell us a little bit about your
team approach.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Yeah, a lot of our clients say they'd rather have
five minds looking at their plan than one, and so
we always have to advise in every meeting. But more importantly,
we are in the meetings with the professionals. So we
have the CPA and house, the estate planning attorney and house.
You know, Jim can meet with our clients. We've got
medicare specialists, so like we always we don't want clients
to go to ten different places to get the job done,

(17:05):
and so that makes us more unique. Most firms don't
do that and have that, you know, all in one.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
I call that like concierge financial planning. They're they're different.
We were concier care, you know. I mean, we're we're,
you know, white glove and we're gonna take great care
of you and do what's most important and give you
great advice.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
So exactly, yep, And that's all we've got on this
segment here, Jim. But we'll go ahead and hop off
here and be right for the next one. But you
