the state of Ohio. It's a great way to live
and I'm so glad that we are doing this. We
are also talking about today it became a kind of
a controversial subject, Christopher Columbus, this statue that was here
in the city of Columbus for years.

an effort to possibly bring it back. So I'm half Italian,
My mom was one hundred percent Italian. Carmela Nancy Benedetto.
Obviously this subject, it hits so close to home and
it means something to me, and it means something to
a lot of the great Italian people throughout central Ohio

and beyond. So now they're trying to decide where to
put Christopher Columbus, this beautiful statue back up.

suggestion of where you think this statue should go.

Well, as far as the statue, I think it should
be put right back where it was taken from. I
think it is part of our city's history. And yes,
it should have never been taken down in the first place.

Yeah, I think that it was during a time with
this country was just taking down every type of controversial
statue with no rhyme or reason. They just wanted something
to make a statement, and I think that's where this
Christopher Columbus statue fell in line with Yeah, I think.

We do need to preserve our city's history. Mindy, I
do have a tip for you about lake life, Yes,
and your dog falling into the water. Yeah, they make
a ramp that floats on top of the water and
you can just attach that to the dock and then
if the dogs I have an above ground and I
have one of those because if my dogs fall in,

they can't get out of an above ground pool.

I wanted to weigh in on the property tax, but
what I will say about the statue is yes, it
should never have been taken down, and I think the
Italian community should have had a loud voice outcry about that.
I had neighbors that were two doors down that were
full Italian on both sides, and I never heard a

of the family, that's one hundred percent. I can't believe

What I wanted to say is I live in southern
Delaware County in the only Tangi school district.

And this was at least ten years ago, and I
dug into it, and I wanted to find out because
I knew prior to that the Supreme the Ohio Supreme
Court said you cannot use property tax to basically fund
the bulk of schools. Okay, but they were still doing it.
And so I called around and this one office I called.

The woman said, the reason that it was still going
on even after what the Supreme Court of Ohio said
was because no one will enforce the law.

So and then when we had a levy levy past
year and a half it failed, And in almost forty
years of me living up here, there's only there's been
two levees that I'm aware of that failed for the
Old Tangy School district.

And then just let me say this real quick. The
superintendent got on TV. He looked like he was going
to sit down and cry. Really, they're top heavy in
administration to begin with, you need to do something the
taxpayers cannot keep paid.

We are absolutely, absolutely, And then if you go inside
their schools. I was a substitute teacher in Old TANGI listen,
they're great schools. So yeah, I mean there there's a
lot of money being spent for sure. Listen, I'm glad
you called in, Kendall, and I think a lot of
people feel like you do.

they removed it they could keep it because they were

other statues across the country coming down at the.

Was and part of the reason that MAYBE i heard
one of the colors saying The italians weren't involved as,
much it was simply because it was done so. QUICKLY
i got a call actually at about two to three
in the morning Of july, first saying it's coming down
in an, hour and literally jumped down there with my,

husband called some, people, texted some people BECAUSE i knew
we were on alert it was going to come. Down
but we were there and kind of was shocked to
see how intense the project. Was and you, know they
were beautiful in taking it. DOWN i, mean there's both
sides to every, story and they were. Careful nobody was
slamming it.

OR i know where it? Is i'm not permitted to actually,
say because we want to protect, it but it is

about where they think the statue can go back. Up
and it was originally placed in this location, downtown but
they don't want it there, anymore so it's going to

was a group the two million dollars was given from
The Mellon foundation to a city derivative to see where
we should have The Columbus christopher's, statue where it should

committee along with Another, italian a local, Attorney Jamie, cisto
from twenty to. Twenty we are the Two. Italians there
were other individuals that were on this. Committee Native, Americans, Blacks, Orientals,
chinese just everyone that you can think of was on this.
Committee it started out very. Large it started to kind

of AND i wouldn't say, disintegrate but let's face, it
The italians were the one that. Stayed The Native americans,
stayed and The African americans we stayed on all this.
Time that's what was kind of cool about it in.

okay we'll do something at The Ohio History. Connection please
invite who you'd like and make sure It's. Italian what
about the invitation to the. City that's not really going
to happen on this.

The Mellon foundation to a city derivative to see where
we should have The Columbus christopher's, statue where it should

ON i have been on the, Committee Christopher Columbus Statue

committee along with Another, italian a local, Attorney Jamie, cisto
from twenty to. Twenty we are the Two. Italians there
were other individuals that were on this. Committee Native, Americans, Blacks, Orientals,
chinese just everyone that you can think of was on this.

The italians were the one that. Stayed The Native americans,
stayed and The African americans we stayed on all this.

about the invitation to the. City that's not really going
to happen on this.
