Speaker 1 (00:00):
Seven nine three nineteen fifty seven is a magic number. See,
I've got Jim Eerson from care Patrol and filling in
for Mindy's one and only Joe from Peter and she
and you know what's funny. You said that you weren't
here till like five per two, and Mindy would have
been blowing your phone up.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeap. She calls me whenever I'm wrong. Oh my god,
run in that five minutes early, she'll call me.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
There there are two people in the world that if
you don't answer the dip my buddy Dicky Klein hands.
If I don't answer, he'll call three times in a row.
Finally I'll call him back, and then he's on talking
to somebody else. That drives me nuts. If I don't
answer your phone call, that means I'm one the other line.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
It really is.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
And I do have a fantasy top retirement. My retirement
is a flip phone. That would be just heaven to me,
the old star tech that barely works back in the
good old days. Actually, Brian hes she saw me on
my cell phone as a guy in his table tale.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
He started out he.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
In the cellular place here in Columbus, And that's where
he did a smart thing, he made good money, sold
it out, and then started tattleteal. So you know, you
say Midwest millionaires all time, Joe, and I often think
you don't realize how wealthy some people are just here
in canw Winchester Grove City and how I'm not jealous,

(01:20):
but I am envious more of I've lived a good life,
having toys, glor or cars, glory or stupid stuff. If
you saw the money I've spent my lifetime, you probably
smacked me upside the head. But the guy that we've
also joked about in a car business coming with a
water cash and is poking his bib overalls, I'm like,
he's homeless. That's the guy. And that's probably most of
your clientele, just the good old boys and girls.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah, I mean that's who we serve, hard working people.
We like when we tell them because there's only ten
percent of people that have a million dollar net worth
or more, and it's typically the people who have just
never like they always live paycheck to paycheck, but they've
always made room to save and they're diligent, and now
they're in a position where they have more money than

(02:02):
they really know what to do with for how frugal
they are, and you know, the best savers of the
worst spenders. So now in retirement we have to encourage
them like, hey, you know, you can spend some of
this because if you don't, you can't take.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
It with you. And so brings truck behind hers.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah, that's exactly what I say all the time. And
so they have to make a decision to either spend it,
give it or gift it. And you know, if not,
then who's ever the beneficiary's going to get?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Have you ever had that guy walk in your office
before You're like, oh, boy, are you just have a feeling?
Or I mean, where do your where's most of your
clients come from?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, I mean we we have a lot of clients
here in Columbus, but at this point we have a
ton of clients who come from to us all across
the country. So we have a YouTube channel and I've
written three books that we get a lot of national
presents from. But most of our clients have pensions in
some sort, So we get a lot of retired teachers,
military nurses, federal employees, you know, police and fire and

(02:56):
so that's a lot of our clients. So again those
are people mid class people, but they've done really well
and they have a pension, which only twenty percent of
people have a pension, and we actually call it a
two percent club, less than ten percent of people over
a million dollars, less than twenty percent of people with
a pension. You combine those two percentages as the really
crowd we serve often is that two percent of the population.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
I'm gonna ask you a curveball question. I guarantee no
one's a rash. Leave it the boots. You don't do
this for the money, because as smart as you are
doing this, you could be financially set doing it just
for yourself. You do it because I think you get
off and get high off making people rich. That's hate
to say.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Yeah, No, I mean at this point, I definitely enjoy
the impact that we're able to make. There's a lot
of decisions that I can make within our business that
would make me more money than I don't because we're
more into it to serve the client. For example, we
charge the same fee as other advisors around town, but
other advisors may only do investment management. We do all
five pillars all in one place. We have the attorney,

(03:53):
we do tax prep, we have Medicare specialists. We call
our five Pillars of planning, and so we spend and
excessive time with our clients every year, and we don't
necessarily have to, like we have a we I mean,
we just clients don't leave us because we do it
so well. But even if we didn't, they'd still not
leave us because there's nowhere else better they could go to.
Is kind of the take I always have. And so
you know, we have two advisors in every meeting. We

(04:15):
have a fifty to one client to advisor ratio, whereas
the industry is two hundred and one. So if I
really want to just make a ton of money, we
would just pile in clients. We'd take on everyone that
wants to work with us, and we would just give
them a subpar service. But that's not why I started
the first.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Places to do that.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, all that all the time, and there's a bigger
firms too that are especially doing it. But yeah, I
mean it's very very common. We get a lot of
people that come to us from advisors that just say
simply they just weren't getting called, like, they were never
getting communicated on. They hadn't heard from their advisor in years.
It's just it's just crazy the stories we hear.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
So Jim, And that's one thing I noticed just being down,
you know, meeting your group, I mean your whole team.
I mean, as you just said, it's a fifty to
one ratio where you know, it's a everyone's collaborating. And
you kind of explained to me off air a little
bit about how you kind of rotate, you know, some
of your advisors around just to keep things fresh. So
I think that's a that's a kind of a nice.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
You get people reach back to you and go, hey,
I just talked to my mom and she's so stoked.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Thank you for placing her. Well, it's I'm never going
to hear the word stoked.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
I mean, but what gives me satisfaction is everyone's putting
their head on the pillow at night. Now your mom
or dad or their loved ones safe. You know, that's
that's the challenge. Yeah, someone's safe. You know if you
you have a peace of mind now that your mom
or dad have a purpose again. You know they're in
a routine again and they're getting their medsvantaged, and you

(05:35):
know they're now around others that are like kind and
you're making some friends.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
You know, that's the part.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
You know, it's just if you can be you know,
someone can be twenty four seven super you know, kind
of like we heard on air. I mean, you know,
I have someone coming to my house and care for me.
You know, that's a great thing. But when you start
to have dementia and now you know you're you know,
you're no longer safe at home or you know, obviously
if you're paying a lot with home care, you know,
we can help manage that a little bit. But more importantly,

(06:01):
you know, find an option, and if you do it
sooner than later, it's more affordable because the longer.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
You wait, the more care you have.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
So if we can get you somewhere, you're going to
actually be able to you know, kind of plateau and
maybe not have your health you know, decline anymore. And
it actually, you know, will you know, kind of save
you money in the long long run from my perspective,
because you're now keeping someone you know where they're in
a routine, but they're on their meds and they're you know,
having you know, a nurse on staff that's watching you daily,

(06:28):
so you have that you know, safety.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Net around you do you have any couples there. I
mean there are couples, yeah, I mean that aren't really
bad but still need some help.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
It just depends.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
I mean there's certain couples that you know, one maybe
a little rougher than the other, has a little more
higher care needs. And you know the care that we
call about, you know, what we call is caregiver burnout,
where you start to have one of the spouses, you know,
you know, burning out because they're caring and putting a
lot of care and it's draining them. So yeah, you know,
there's a lot of families that just get into that situation,

(06:58):
especially if there's memory care needs. You know, seeing a
lot of people getting dementia today, and it just becomes
they can become too much of a handful. And you know,
keeping them home as long as you can is great,
but when you realize that they're not safe and mom
or dad's wearing out now, and you know, if you can,
you know, give them that safety net, you know, mom
can still you know, maybe be you know, an assisted

(07:19):
living if Dad needed memory care support, and they can
still be in the same structure. So you know, we
do help in those scenarios as well, so that's why
you should call and we can help put a good
plan together. And you know that's the part. You know,
there's a lot of people hearing me today. I mean,
just call me and you know I can put together
a thirty minute talk with you and you know, no obligation.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
And feel comfortable because I don't care what you're doing nowadays,
from going to dinner to getting a place for your
final years or getting invaded. You just want somebody that
you can go to, that you can trust that It's
it's a sad world. When you go to restaurant and
get good service, you're walking. Man, they were actually really good. Yeah,
never said that twenty years ago.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
So the thing I like is the hug I get
after touring, you know, because we meet with the families,
will tour the communities once and we'll set them up
at the families you know that are involved helping them
make the decision.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
You know, you see that relief.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Coming off them because they have found that community that's
going to be a fit.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
It wasn't what they thought it was going to be.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
So you know that's the part that I my satisfaction
is most satisfying is you know, seeing that I have
helped and I have taken that.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Pressure off of someone.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
And you know, the other thing is is you know,
going on the Internet and thinking you're going to get
the magic list. I mean, stay off the internet because
all you're doing is you're just becoming a fish in
or barrel and they're going to shoot at you because
now you're going to have about twenty telemarketers chasing.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
You and you're in your car warranted.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
So so we prevent, you know, and help manage your
privacy and help maintain you know, just your control.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
That's why they should use care control.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
All right, quick break, friends, We're going to be right back.
