Speaker 1 (00:00):
That's all my friends on C one O one a
day to remember. I don't know why, Greg Warren nothing,
I don't know why you called me.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I don't know why.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
That song kind of feels like your your stand up
go hang out with all my friends and this.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Is a rock and this is a rock station.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
I think last time, I think, the last time I
talked to you, you had just done The Salesman, which, yeah,
like you know, millions, like what three ish million people
watched that.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah, thanks to guys like you man it uh that one,
that one really took off. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
How does how is success measured nowadays with stand up comedy?
Because it used to be everybody.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
The same way as it always has been, how many
chicks you get?

Speaker 1 (00:51):
That's why I did it. I have I have to
say with I thought about this last night. I went,
you know, because on on like TV, it just automatically
goes to like these different stations it jumps to and
I'll see like, you know, the best of Letterman stand
up or you know whoever you know just or or

(01:13):
or Conan O'Brien. With these shows, not not not that
they're not popular, but you know, it's not that they're
they're not churning them out like they used to. Where
do comics go now to be seen by a bajillion people?
Is it all YouTube now?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
I mean I think it's it's so like sort of
spread out, you know, it's definitely YouTube. I mean, it's
definitely YouTube. It's uh, it's you know, you can you
hear a lot of comedy on on on serious radio. Yeah,
you hear it on Spotify, you uh, I think people

(01:54):
you know, Netflix does a great job with it. Hulu.
The last couple of specials I did, it went to
YouTube and then and then we put it on Hulu
and you found this on this whole other audience. So
you know, back in the day, it was like you
watch it either on the Tonight Show or somebody got
an HBO special and that was it.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
I mean, that was the hope that you would land
one of those gigs and that you'd get to do
one of those, you know, one of those types of shows.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
So, which is.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Crazy because there's all I mean, I mean, they're doing
like three HBO specials a year. There's a lot more
funny people out there than that.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
And and you find them all over social media. Also,
it used to be you know, before social media, there
were very few people that, oh, yeah, that guy's really
really funny. And I think it's just because nobody had
heard anybody else's sense of humor. But now you get
to hear everybody's sense of humor. I mean, just like
normal people on TikTok finding fame by being funny comedians

(02:52):
that never would have broken out if it weren't for
social media. Are you all over? Are you all over
social media? Is that something like that?

Speaker 3 (03:01):
It's been great.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Honestly, it's do you hate it?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
No?

Speaker 3 (03:05):
I kind of love it. I mean, you know, you
know I I I think it changed my career. You know,
were just the clips and then the last the last special,
and then this special that's coming out today. I I hope, uh,
I hope is A is a really good follow up?
You know. It's we're putting it on YouTube. We're not
putting it, we're not taking it somewhere else. We're putting

(03:26):
it right on YouTube. Anybody can watch it. It's on
Nate Bargatsi's uh YouTube page, which gets a lot of
a lot of views. And Nate's pretty big dealer these days.
And it's and Nate's developed his own HBO. I mean
that his network is sort of you know Nate's the
He's really really funny, but his sort of network is like, hey,

(03:49):
anybody can watch it. You can watch it with your kids.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
It's basically saying nice.

Speaker 1 (03:52):

Central timesne at live at nine am.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Oh cool?

Speaker 1 (04:36):
All right, good, So people can actually you know, turn
me off and go watch Greg Warren. Yeah, you all
been sitting around with me for thirty five years. Let's
let's see what Greg's gotta say. You you you came
into comedy in a in an unusual way.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
You did a contest or.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
I was reading that you would want a contest, and
then people said, man, you're really funny, you should do this.
And then how on earth did you do that? Where
was that bridge?

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Well? I, you know, I was wrestling in college at
Missouri and one of the guys on the team worked
at a comedy club in the summer and they had
the contest and he signed me up without me knowing,
and I did it. And then but you know, I
was interested in at that time, and I did it
a little bit here and there, but I didn't go

(05:24):
for it. After college, I took a job selling peanut
butter in South Texas, actually in Houston you were.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Doing it was a Jiff and Pringles.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
It was Jiff and Pringles and dunk Hines. And I
don't know what you're laughing at. Man, these are some
very big brands.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
I have them, Yeah, I have them in my light.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
You want to talk about how much Sunday to Light
we sold in the Valley Sun. Yeah, so yeah, I
did that for ten years and I would sort of,
you know, work the but Mike's scene in Houston for
a while. Yeah, it was Texas. It was a good
place to start. And after about ten years, I was like,

(06:07):
I think I'm as good as some of these guys
coming through town. So I quit a job making a
lot of money and took about a ninety three percent
pay cut for the first year, and I just lived
out of my car and it was it was pretty fun.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
And now look at you, your own special millions of
people watching. Has life you know, has life changed for you?
Or is just money money? You know, I'm not saying
that you're like, I'm I'm going always ultra rich, but
you know, I find people that can make all kinds
of different money. And and but happiness doesn't change. Happy
is just happy depending on what you're making. It really

(06:45):
doesn't change it all that much. I mean, we'd all
like to try it, But I mean, yeah, are you
as happy now as you were when you were selling
jiff and pringles.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
I think I'm happier, you know. I just I think
it's it's fun. It's a much more fun business for me.
Like you just, I just always feel like if whatever's
going on, it's like I could just go try and
make something and I could put it on stage tomorrow night.
And that's a pretty cool feeling, like I could be
like do that. And also, I mean, I don't know

(07:19):
how rich I am, but I'm a pretty big deal
in some of these hotel loyalty programs, like.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
I HG, yes, I was gonna mention that I was
gonna make it. I'm a bit. I'm a big deal too.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Man.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
I'm like plat walk in and they're like.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
You're getting a sweet, mister Gabriel.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
I'm like, yeah, well.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
I don't get that. Would you like points or a snack?
I'm like, I'm diamond and you're offering me a snack?
Can we not call it a snack? I'm a grown man,
like I believe I've earned a little more respect than
a snack. And then what do you got juice boxes?

(07:58):
Back there? You all? I'll take him like I don't
eat snaps. I mean I in between meals, but it's
usually a full size bag of Fredo's and after the
third one it stops being a snack. It's a problem, really,
is what it is.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Now, Going from wrestling the stand up comedy, Did your
parents think you were crazy? Because i'm reading your dad
was actually was he your coach, your wrestling.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Coach, my high school coach?

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Really?

Speaker 1 (08:26):
So did he think you were nuts when you were like, yeah,
I'm gonna dad, I'm really funny, You're not.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeah, he didn't think it was a good idea. My
dad's very supportive, so he supported me, but he didn't
think it was a good idea at all. And let
me know that my mother was a writer. My mom
was a writer and very creative and was you know,
encouraged me and was very happy for me.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
That's cool.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Now the special is called The Champ and it's streaming
for free on YouTube on nine am this morning. Anything
else that we need to tell people before I cut
you loose to talk to the next DJ guy.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
No, I just I hope people give it a shot.
You can watch it with your grandma, you can watch
with the kids. But I promise that that doesn't mean
that it's lame. It's got an edge to it, but
it's a it's family friendly. And if you do happen
to jump on at nine I will be in there
the first hour, you know, answering questions and commenting as
you're watching. Cool.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Well in the chat all right, everybody check out Greg
Warren at nine. Turn me off because all I'm gonna
play is like no all I'm playing and I'm gonna play.
