Speaker 1 (00:00):
One, Ricky Zach and Manno in the morning.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
We have a special friend in the studio with us.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Friend. We don't typically have friends that come visit us,
so this is always exciting when it does happen.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
I'm glad that I can be like a special visitor.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
Yeah you are, man Zach Myers from the band Shine Down,
Welcome back.

Speaker 5 (00:18):
Welcome to our home.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Thank you. I you know what, you are very gracious
for inviting anyone into your home before ten am. That's
true that I don't. Nope, that's not happened in my house.
I'm not inviting anyone into mind.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
What's your normal wake up time on a regular day
on no Show?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I have three kids now, so earlier than you'd like
some people, Yeah, early, like like I usually between nine
and ten am, which is like way earlier than I
would like and also still seems way too early for.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Me, probably the earliest of all of the you know,
rock stars out there guys, and.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Like, honestly, yeah, and like I you know, they could
they sometimes I gotta get up early because they go
to they go to school two days a week, so
it's like I gotta get like super early. So yeah,
I nine to.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Ten between nine to ten is a dream. Nine to
ten is what I like to say, that is a
dream to.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Yeah, you guys like, so you guys gotta have like
probably what five.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Five thirty thirty when I that's no.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I here's the thing. I don't. I don't drink really,
I don't drink all at all. Actually, and I don't like,
I don't really go out a lot. I was out.
I got back to my hotel at three o'clock in
the morning last night.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
So you're exhausted right now.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Actually I got I mean I went straight to bed
and woke up at nine to get in the lobby
at nine thirty. So I'm okay, okay, yeah, I'm right
from you.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
It's probably not the forum for this.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
No, let's talk about it. Let's get into it.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Have fun out without drinking.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I always have. We were at the the IP at Loser,
so we were I had a bunch of friends. Post
was there and Riley was there, but we were we
were hanging. It was a bunch of my friends, so
it was it was cool. I you know, I just
what I found about the thing was it never helped
me one way or the other. It just and I've
never had like never done a weird fact, I've never

(01:58):
done a drug never even we've never tried like anything
like that. So the other problems I had anxiety, it
just kind of exacerbated that. So you know whatever. It's
just like it was one of those things where I
was like, I think I just better without it and
I can have a great time. I'm at like, if
that's what my friends on me last I was like
the fact that you're outtil three in the morning without drinking,
I'm like, you know what, You're kind of right. I

(02:19):
should I should have left three hours ago. You're exactly right.

Speaker 5 (02:23):
The fact that he just like breezed over a name
drop post was there.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, I watch your toast. I'm dropping names around here. Yeah,
it was. It was a it was a fun night,
so it was it was good.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
We hung Nash is always fun.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
We have a lot to talk about with you, though,
before we get into new music and things like that.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Congrats on your iHeartRadio music.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Oh thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
You got two awards, a Rock Artists of the Year
and Rock Song of the Year for a symptom of
being human.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Congratulations, thank you.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
They they they surprised us. Soon literally We've been on
the red carpet for like three minutes and they go, hey,
we have a surprise. And last time Jelly just kind
of ran out and like like abducted us. But this
time they were like, they handed us one award and
they're like, you won Rock Song of the Year, like
this is awesome, and it was like, really surprise, and
then they go, also, we're not telling you won Rock

(03:09):
Artist of the Year. And it was wild. It was awesome,
It was really cool. It was a fun surprise, and
they got it all on video, so it was yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
I love that. And dance could Dance is your twenty
second number one rock single.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
This is gonna sound so about twenty third. That was
the worst thing I've ever said. Brushing my shoulders off. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Yeah, an enormous.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
It's insane. I tell people all the time. It's like
a media base. And Billboard presented us with this plaque
when we got twenty two and it said most number
ones in the history of rock. Yeah, and I was like,
it feels like monopoly money, like in your pocket. It
feels okay. You're like, I got money in my pocket
and then you pull it out and you're like, I
still yeah, I may have more than like Tom Petty.

(03:53):
It's like I'm not Tom, Like I have a Tom
Petty tattoo, you know what I mean, He's still Tom Petty.
And so it's like it's a great honor and obvious
you guys had a ton to do with that. iHeart
and radio in general. But it's you know, it's a
cool thing to put on your shoulder. But you keep
moving forward and what's the next one, and try to
try to write, try to write another great songs.

Speaker 6 (04:13):
So wild that you have twenty three number ones and
you're so young making all of these records in rock music.

Speaker 5 (04:21):
I feel like whenever I think.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Of like a seventy like I should just have a
mustache in here.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
You should be at least seventy five that you've accomplished.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah, I'm I just turned forty one.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
Like who's chasing you?

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Like? Who?

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Who you know?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
In that amount?

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Yeah, I mean Tom Petty was close. I don't think,
you know, I don't know if he's probably you know,
I don't know if he has like a Tupac style
vault of songs that could come out. I don't I
don't really know who's close. I don't ever. Honestly, the
fact that we're even in the race whatsoever, it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
So what you're saying is you guys don't sit down
and make a goal of like we want this many
before we.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Never you know what. For us, it's like we don't
even sit down and got to write a hit song.
You know. There's like we're in a town of people.
It's like that's their job, that's their nine to five
is too right, hit songs, you know, and it's just
not as when as in a band who's been doing
it for this long for me just to sit down
and go, I want to write two things, A good

(05:17):
song and a song that it will help someone in
some way whatsoever. And if that connects, you did your
job the right way.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
I think this is a great segue actually into three
six five the latest single that you guys just came
out with, that's a deep one, very where's your head out?
When you guys kind of you know, put these songs together,
when you perform these songs, because you guys have so
many deep, very sentimental a lot of topics that people
don't typically like to touch, and you guys perform these

(05:46):
songs and put these songs together.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
What does that like?

Speaker 3 (05:49):
What's it like? Is crazy? I tell people all the
time that I have the best job ever because only
in the sense of like if you think about an actor,
you think about someone like they get to make art
that changes people's lives or help someone through the day, right,
But they don't get to be in every movie theater
and watch the reaction. Yeah, I get to watch the
reaction and that you know, when I'm on stage, like

(06:09):
you know our last one that went's top forty symptom
of being human, Like I'm watching people crying and like,
you know what, I'm having some stuff go on today too,
So like I start crying, and so it gets heavy
because like, well that song especially like if you look
at three six five, we're coming out of the pandemic.

(06:29):
Our bass player who's our. He produces the records, he
mixes the records. He had a ton of loss, like
he lost his dad, he lost his grandmother, his wife
lost her sister. Like so that one all in a
very short amount of time. So when when you hear
that song, like that's kind of what it's about. But again,
like another thing that we do is I don't really

(06:50):
like what I don't never. You never want to reveal
it too much because like you might think of that
song and think about someone you knew when you were younger,
you know. So I don't ever want to give you know.
I think the song is should be interpreted. However the listener, Yeah,
that's all music now. I always joke like there's I'm
a huge like John Prime, Phantom, a huge Billy Joel Fantom,
a huge oldon John. Feel like there's certain songs where

(07:10):
I'm like, man, this song means a lot to me,
and I think it's about this, And if you ask him,
they'd probably be like, oh, this is about a ham
sandwich I hate, you know, It's like, oh, don't say that,
you know. So, Yeah, I like to leave it open
to interpretation.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
But I do have a question for you, because you
guys are going to be back in Nashville at Bridgetown
Arena on May tenth, yes, which we're so pumped for
the show. Nashville is known for special guests. Who are
you bringing?

Speaker 3 (07:33):
I mean there's probably an obvious one that people could imagine.
I don't know, Yeah, how sick would that be? Yeah,
I'd imagine there's going to be some There usually are
I mean, our friendship with Jelly's pretty noted. Yeah in
the press. I've known Jelly for a very long time,
and we brought him on his first like real national

(07:55):
tour that he ever did. That's sick and like then, yeah,
we talked about doing it again the year and I
was like, buddy, you're not gonna open for anyone ever
again next year. So we are now here. We are
he's and also, you know, again, it can't happen to
a better person.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
I feel like there are like three Jelly Rolls out there,
the amount of shows that he shows up.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
I don't understand. Dude. He's like he's not he's not
as old as he's a little younger. But I'm like,
I don't understand how he does. And I tell him that,
I'm like, hey man, at some point got to learn
to say no. Yes, Like you have to learn say
no because he's got all this success right now, and
it's like you don't want to wear yourself out. But
it's like he doesn't want to let anyone down. Though

(08:35):
it's not like, oh, I gotta I've got to get
on the cover of everything. He doesn't care about that. Yeah,
he doesn't want to let someone down, like that's the coolest.
That's the coolest part about that. Guys like I just
don't want to upset anyone by saying I can't do
their show or can't do their radio show.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
It's another good segue to jelly Roll performed at our
river on.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
The rooftout this night summer.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yes we did.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Yeah, so yeah, it's a free show. We're not paying
the artist and jelly Roll he couldn't turn And you guys,
I want to say specifically about your band. You guys
were out there and you played far longer than we
asked you to, which was just the coolest thing for
the I mean, your fans showed up, they waited in
line forever, and you guys wanted to put on a
show form.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Yes, though people have to line up since it's free,
so they were there for hours.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Ordering, yes, yeah, ordering, and then people showed up. It
was crazy. We're we're sometimes fortunately and sometimes unfortunately know
over playing longer than we should. Yeah, sometimes we get
fined by venues and you know for doing that. But yeah,
it's honestly, we're of the ilk that like, if people
showed up to see you do what you would be

(09:37):
doing even if you were homeless, you know what I mean,
Like I have the best job, Like I would be
doing this job if I made no money doing it.
So the fact that people are going to show up
and take time out of their day and maybe get
a babysitter or a call off work, because that things
earlier in the in the evening, you know what I mean. Like,
I'll play as long as up till till they unplug us.
That's so cool.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
I will see you guys are pretty like mem mesmerizing
while you're playing. Though, because it was until somebody said
to me like, oh, we have to go up there,
like we're past the time to go up there to
do our goodbyes for the show, and you guys were
still going and I went, oh, I didn't even realize it.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Went that back.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
I'm so sorry. You guys probably wanted to go to
band and we're like we're like, no, we're gonna keep
We're going to stay up here.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
No, no, no, we were all very into it. Like
I said, didn't even realize it was happening until that moment.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Good, I'm glad it.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Kevin. Actually that was like, oh, we're past the time.
We got to run back down the stage.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
I'm always the one who's me too.

Speaker 6 (10:29):
Man, you clearly love Nashville. You played our river on
the rooftop you were. I saw you exploring around Nashville
yesterday and you're playing Bridge Stone. Is there a restaurant
that you have to go to every time you come
to Nashville?

Speaker 3 (10:41):
The new one is No Co?

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (10:43):
Hell yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
My buddy owns No Co. It is so good. I
haven't gotten to go to Kasa case case. I think
what was called the Oma costa place next door. I
haven't gotten to go, and I can pull a favor.
I could probably be like I heard their book like
four months out.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yea six months six.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
I love it for.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Somebody else because you good for him.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
They open it at like midnight for like weeks and
weeks and weeks ahead, like months ahead of time. And
if you don't get in there at midnight, you can't
get anything. I've tried multiple it.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Couldn't have no better guy though. He's the best.

Speaker 6 (11:10):
So it's like call your friend that owns it and
we can all go to dinner together.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
I think I think I'm gonna go there tonight, so
not to I'm not gonna go to the normal cosway,
I'll just go to the Toko. But Noko's great. Uh,
my normal lunch spot would be like Martin's. Probably.

Speaker 6 (11:25):
I love Martin, you.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Know, it's his national stuff.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
Oh and speaking of food, you brought your Shinedown hot sauce.
There are three flavors here. I want to try this.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
I don't have anything to put it on hot sauce
before ten am is Wild.

Speaker 4 (11:36):
That's okay?

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, dude, dab on your finger.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Where can people get this?

Speaker 3 (11:40):
On shineedown dot com, torchbear dot com. It's in some stores.
I wouldn't know which ones, but Upper Midwest. Well that's
this isn't that?

Speaker 4 (11:48):
So it doesn't a big ol'd lick of the pineapple jerk.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
So all right, that's a all right you start on that, No, dude,
I hey, starting on any hot sauce at ten am
is Wild.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Did a nice little clear.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
We got in there.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
I did the Chipotle garlic one and it got in
there good.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
The Chipotle garlic is the main thing, you know.

Speaker 6 (12:06):
What I mean.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
I'm intolerant to pine apple. Yeah, I'm intolerant to half
the world. It's so depressing.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Oh no, are you bubble girl like you can't have
like I just I.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Found out I was having so many medical issues, and
I found out that I'm like intolerant to everything.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
That I was eating.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
That's why I'm desperately afraid. I'll never go do one
of those tests.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It got to the point where it was like unbearable.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
As they tell me gluten or cheese or something like.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
That, tolerant, I'm gluten intolerant.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
No, I can't do it.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
The Chipotle garlic is really good. I'm putting that on
my breakfast.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
It's really good.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
That's a like as a general hot sauce, it's definitely
one of my favorites, not just of ours, just in general.
I love that one sauce.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
We're gonna let you go in a minute here, but
what inspired hot sauce?

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Our drummer and I have been cooks for a very
long time just as a hobby, and he likes hot
sauce on everything, and so anytime we go somewhere, if
there's like a local hot sauce, he'll get that. And so,
you know, I think with a lot of the you
see these things kind of novelty items they would call them,
I think mostly like a hot sauce company would hit
you up and go, hey, we have all these hot

(13:07):
sauces sitting around. You want to slap your name on one,
and like, that's not what our drummer. Our drummer was
kind of in charge of this berry, and he like
it was like a six month process of like add
a little bit more paprika to this, had a little bit,
you know, like it was crazy. Really, he really got
into it. So it means a lot to us, it
means a lot to him.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
So that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
I'm gonna try this one that says attention, attention, this
is hot.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
It's definitely got a cake.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
It's a it's not it doesn't hurt you though.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Hurt your throat. You know, it tastes you can taste
the mango.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Normally when it says like attention, attention, this is hot,
you can't taste anything except for mouthful.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
You can't take you taste regret.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
This is really good.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
I'm glad. Thank you very much.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
We thank you for bringing hot sauce. Bridgestone May tenth.
It's really good to see you, brother. Thank you for
having me.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
I appreciate it.
