Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's five o'clock, got yours Tuesday? They's two Sun Roadrunners
Happy Out from Fox Sports fourteen fifty am. Jonathan sh
right Roads.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
We know the story, but you gotta tell the viewers
that starts. It's so funny.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
It's our usual Tuesday night get together.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
So I don't know. Maybe we should start implementing some
breakdance pre games during the season and see how that goes.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Right here on Tucson Sports Dation yet Fox Sports fourteen
fifty AM.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Fox Sports fourteen fifty am. Roadrunners Happy are our usual
Tuesday night get together. Jonathan Shaeffer here with Kim Coder
Roebliz Kim. How's it going. It's good. Good to see you.
It was a yeah. I feel like I haven't seen
you in a while. Roadrunners have been gone the last
couple of weeks at the single game in San Diego

(00:51):
after Thanksgiving, so really haven't seen you, like since Thanksgiving,
probably since that the twenty seventh, probably of November. We
had that Wednesday night game.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
You miss didn't you? You missed?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Haven't seen you in person at that game in San Diego.
Came back to Tucson, but we were only home for
a few days. Then we went to Calgary at that
series and now we are, uh, we're back home. We
are back home, full fun holiday week. We have our
season ticket member, a holiday party very soon tonight, going

(01:22):
to a hospital tomorrow to visit some patients with some players.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Just this past Monday, yesterday, I would say, Uh, I
went to build a bear with Andre Gazino and Kevin Connaughton.
We have a holiday skate at the Tucson Holiday Ice
tomorrow night as well, and then our games is upcoming weekend.
So it's a very very busy week uh here in Tucson, Kim.
But it's a very very fun week as well. And uh,
you're just really starting to feel the holiday spirit come up.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yeah, it's it's an incredible it's a busy month for everybody, right,
but it's like it's in December, but like, yeah, it's
there's a lot happening right now.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I feel like you gotta say, this is probably the
busiest month of the year because and I think for anybody,
right you know, whether you're the job you have or
if you're not even working at all, if you're retired anything,
maybe as a kid not as much, but you're still
a little busy, you know, having to go see Grandma
for the holidays or something, But you know, it's it's
that time of year where you're seeing family, you're traveling

(02:20):
a lot, especially us, and you're Christmas shopping, you're getting
in the holiday spirit, you're having holiday parties like we're
having this week as well. So yeah, it's a busy
time for everybody. But it's so crazy that we're so
close to Christmas. We only have, you know, this next
four game stretch that we're in Abbotsford and then the

(02:41):
Christmas break, then we're back home in Tucson, and then
that closes out December. So it's really starting to get
that at that time of year that the season's just
wrap it super moving at fast paced.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Yeah. Well and not only that, but Friday night is
Swifty Night, So if you're a fan of Taylor Swift music,
definitely come out to the Friday night game. And then
Saturday night is Teddy Bear Toss, which I know everybody
looks forward to, so I am excited to see. We
probably Johnny need to at some point discuss how many
bears we think we're gonna get and do a little competition. Maybe. Yeah,

(03:14):
I like that because I have had people tell me, oh,
I'm bringing fifty bears.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
This yeries Yeah, I know, like you think, like, oh,
you know, maybe two bears per game. Then you can
times that by like I think we're gonna hit over
six thousand to this weekend. That's my chat, I would hope,
Like I think last year we did really good with
the attendant, so you think like, oh, you know, maybe
maybe have two fans each brought a or sorry, a
fan brought two bears each. Then that you know, it

(03:40):
equivolates to twelve thousand bears, but no people bring like
fifty or someone brings a giant one.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
You know.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
It's it's and I think that's the best part of
Teddy Bear Toss is like you just see all these
kinds of stuffed animals that people went out of you know,
like people went out of their busy schedules and grabbed,
you know, and shopped for and actually picked out, you know,
and it's gonna benefit so many people, you know, And
I think, honestly, I think Teddy Bear Toss is one
of the best things to ever come to hockey. I

(04:07):
don't know who decided to start at first, I don't
know which league gets started, and I don't have the
history of it on the top of my head, but
it's just one of the best things ever. And you know, unfortunately,
you know, doing it in a National Hockey League game
would obviously be too hectic because I'd be a lot
of bears and people can even throw that far. So
it's really awesome that all minor league teams and some

(04:29):
college teams, and I've seen teams across the world do
it as well, so it's a really good cause and
I'm just so excited. I think it's the best time
of the year. I think, no pun intended, as you say,
it's the best.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
It was intended. No, it is, and we all the
bears will be going to Aviva Children's Services, which is fantastic,
so that local children who may not be getting anything
for Christmas will be getting something for Christmas if you
bring a Teddy Bear. So highly recommend coming to that
game if you are able to, and even if you

(05:02):
don't bring a bear, still come to the game because
the Teddy bear tost is just so much fun to watch.
We throw the bears on the ice after Tucson scores
the first goal, so it's we never know when it's
gonna happen. It's not timed. It's like super random and
for some somehow people are always expecting it and like
the bears just start immediately, which is a lot of

(05:22):
fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
I know, like I've seen instances too where I think
I saw it was another it was a gamers because
a lot of teams have already done it, they've already
had their teddy bear to escape. We saw it was
a ton last weekend. It's just depending on when you're
home or not. And obviously there's gonna be a lot
more this upcoming weekend. But there was one team that
had a goal waved off, I believe, but regardless, like

(05:47):
all the bears got onto the ice, so technically the
goal didn't count, and then the teddy Bear toss happened.
But then I think that same team scored like minutes later,
so I people were like, Okay, cool, it didn't matter,
like we got our goal our Uh yeah, Nathan Smith
scored it for us last year. UH Insider podcast came
out this past week as well. James Kelly and I

(06:11):
made our predictions. James went with Josh Jones, so he's
kind of cheating because Jones playing electric hockey right now.
I went with the captain, Austin Bagansky because he scored
two goals in our last home stand and uh, he
started to heat up a little bit. So I went
with Pogo as my first goal. Guest, Kim, do do
you have one?

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Do you have a?

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Of course I do.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
I am gonna go with.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Igor so Club. I like I would like him on
like a power play, you know, like his classic one
timer from the left circle. H goes through right through
the net and then it's like, all right, toss the bears.
So yeah, those are goal scorers. Uh, if your fans
want to tweet at me, uh, tell me what who
you guys think will score first, and we'll maybe we'll
do atally or something. I don't know, maybe like a
little survey. Anyways, Kim, Yeah, so yeah, it's gonna be

(07:00):
great time. Anyways, Kurz Douglas will be joining us shortly,
but before that, we're gonna do and uh, we're gonna
do our draft first. Usually we're doing our draft last.
We're gonna do it first this time, Kim, We're gonna
be drafting our favorite Christmas songs. I've been listening to
a lot of Christmas music lately. We're starting to get
into the holiday spirit, so we're, uh, we're gonna be
doing that, all right.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
I'm I'm prepared, aren't mostly prepared?

Speaker 2 (07:25):
We want to go first because go for it, because
this was my awesome idea. Next week we're gonna do
Christmas movie, so you'll go first. Ten but uh oh yeah, okay,
And we're also gonna try to queue these these songs
up on our phones as best are we. I mean,
I'm gonna try to, like I already have it right here. Okay.
So my first one is gonna be a Wonderful Christmas

(07:45):
Time by Paul McCartney.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Are you gonna play it? Are you gonna sing it?

Speaker 2 (07:49):
I'm gonna Oh, I'm gonna play it here, I have it.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
No, you should sing it.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
No, I'm not singing it. Do you hear that?

Speaker 1 (07:56):
No?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Can you not hear it?

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Is it tough?

Speaker 3 (07:59):
It's have to hear.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Yep?

Speaker 3 (08:05):
I gotcha.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah see I love it. You know, it's like wonderful
Christmas Time. I don't know, it's a classic. I love it.
You can't go wrong with Paul McCartney too, so.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Oh yeah for sure. Okay, oh Okay, so the my
number one. I didn't know the name of it, so
I just wrote chestnuts Roasting on an open fire. But
apparently the name of it is the Christmas Song. Really, yes,
I didn't know that. It's an old song that my
dad used to sing all the time, so like, and

(08:38):
he would like be very theatrical about it. So let
me see if I can find it. But if not,
it goes like this, chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
jack roast snipping. Like I can only sing it very
theatrically because that's how he sing it.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Yeah, he sings. They're really good. He sings are really good.
That's that's that's a good one. That's a class Uh.
Next one. Next one for me is from uh SpongeBob
square Pants. It was the episode where and it was
this was when SpongeBob was like good classic stuff. Because
I don't know what I've said this before. I don't
know what the heck SpongeBob is nowadays, but this is

(09:16):
when it was a good, great show back in the day.
And they had their first Christmas episode and SpongeBob brought
Christmas the bikini bottom and they sang, uh, they sing
this song.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
It's going in and out?

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Is it going in and out? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (09:37):
What is it called?

Speaker 2 (09:38):
It's called the very First Christmas.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
You have to sing a little bit of it because
they couldn't really hear it.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
So it goes like because Christmas. This Christmas feels like
the very first Christmas to me because it's like.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Their, Yeah, that's cute.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
I literally have never heard that song before. It's a
it's a good one, Okay, my number two. I think
this is a song that isn't a lot of movies
that I can't recall right now, but like I can
hear it in my head. It's rocking around the Christmas Tree.
I like that chick's voice who sings it, just like
rosing and around.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
You always hear that song in movies, like when there's
a Christmas and there's music everywhere, Yeah, or like that.
It's always that song at like a Christmas party setting.
It sets the scene. That song by itself, it really does. Okay,
next one for me, I'm gonna try it. I'm gonna
stop playing these for my phone because I don't think
it's going too well so far. Uh Little Saint Nick

(10:38):
by the Beach Boys. It just sounds good. But let's see,
let's see, how did the lyrics go. It's like, oh yeah,
it's like, oh, Maris, and it's like, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
I literally did not know that that was that song.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
But I know the song, but I didn't know the
name that you've never been told in a real famous
cat all dressed up in red and something like that.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
But yeah, gonna do just do the whole thing, Just sing.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
The whole thing. Sorry, no churs, Douglas. We're just gonna
sing Christmas songs this entire time, right.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
I feel like Curtis would join him. I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Oh my last. We won't make them draft, but we'll
ask him his favorite Christmas song.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Sure. My number three is Here Comes Santa Claus.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Here Comes.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
I.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I used to have a little like a snow globe
that you would turn and it would and it'd be like,
I think I still have it. It's just like super
slow now because it's very old. But ballerina boxes. I
don't know what you call it.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Yeah, okay, yeah, like a jewelry box.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Yeah. I was kind of like one of those. So
that's w I remember. Our next one for me is uh,
I think it's called Run, Run.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Rudolf, Run Run Rudolf. Who sings it? U?

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Shoot? Who does sing that song? It's uh, let's see,
let's see, let's see. Oh, Chuck Berry, it's called run Rudolph.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Oh oh okay, oh okay, got.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Run rude off something something something I don't know. And
then like there's a guitar solo and then and stuff too.
I'm sorry to like the classic rock like Christmas songs
is what I'm Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I think it's the songs that like remind you of
your childhood a little bit. Yeah, you like gravitate towards.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Well, it kind of sucks because like when you get older, Christmas.
I'm not saying Christmas gets less enjoyable, but like when
you're a kid, Christmas is like the best time.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
The thing, it's the thing, it's thething you.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Look forward to. And then as an adult it's still awesome.
But he obviously doesn't feel the same because then.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Well, you have obligations that the adult right abilities, and
like as a kid, you can just enjoy life and
it's fantastic. Okay, my number four, it's funny that you
mentioned that because my number four is nostalgic for me
because my mom loved this movie, so we used to
watch it every Christmas. It's white Christmas and yeah, I

(13:19):
don't do you know that song? I cannot sing it
because he sings it very very low. But he I
think it's being Crosby. Yeah, he says, I'm I'm dreaming
of a white Christmas, just like the ones that, Just
like the ones I used to know where the tree
tops listen and Jill, Nope, wait, am I doing white Christmas?

(13:41):
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas? Yeah, just like the
ones I used to know. No nothing, Jonathan Schaeffer.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Let me, let me, let me see.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Days be Mary and Bru. Your Christmas is be white.
It's horrible.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Well, I'm listening to it right now. U, I'm trying
to I'm trying to pinpoint this. I don't think I've like,
I don't think I have. That's crazy. It sounds like
a classic though.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
It definitely is. It's it's very old, all right.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Next one for me, U, I think it was my
last one. Yeah, it's my last one. Grandma got ran
over by a reindeer?

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Yeah classic? How did your grandma feel about that song?

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Reindeer walking home from our house? Christmas Eve. You can
say there's no such thing as Santa, but as for
me and Grandma or me as me for Grandpa, we believe.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
And then there's a classic like animated movie about it too,
because like Grandma got run over by a reindeer and
then there was like some events, but like it turns
out she wasn't ran over by raindeer. I think she
was hit by a truck or something.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Oh my gosh, or something like dark.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
You know, like I don't even think she was ran
over by a raindew. It was like a truck. But
then Santa showed up and like saved the day.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Was this a cartoon cartoon?

Speaker 4 (15:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:12):
I don't know. It was a crazy cartoon and there
was like a cover up for it and everything.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
I think, my god, was this true crime or a cartoon?
Have we got into true crime podcasting?

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Yeah, it'd be kind of cool. We are the insiders
for true crime in Tucson.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Christmas related true crime. Oh my god, that's so not Okay,
that's not the thing. Okay, So my last one is
let us know, let us know, let us know, let
us know, because she goes like this, Oh, the weather
outside is frightful but the fire. So I love that.
I love how campy and upbeat it is. And when

(15:51):
I was a kid as a family, when we were
driving home on Christmas Eve to go home, this was
the song we all sang together, like in a movie
kind of thing. That's so us snow let its snow Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Well nice, well cool, Kim. Great draft. Honestly, we should
have should have gone those songs to play, but as
always we always thanks time. We always like doing our
drafts a little uh last moment, but great songs. Holiday
Spirit is definitely coming next week. We'll we'll draft our
our favorite Christmas movies because there's a lot of plastic

(16:27):
ones out there as well. All right, well, Curtis Douglas
is coming up next, so we're gonna go grab him.
He's ready to go now joining us, Curtis Douglas. Curtis,
how's it going, man? We're coming up on Christmas very soon,
have a nice stretch of games. But uh, just how's
it going for you? And what are you looking forward
to for the holidays coming up?

Speaker 5 (16:44):
Yeah, it's going well. I'm looking forward to some Christmas though.
Snow which is nice. So obviously I love the Christmas
with the snow being from Canada, but it has a
different feeling too soon. It's pretty special and different, and
I'm pretty excited to spend a year and uh seasoned
teammates and and have some fun over here.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Any plans you have for the holidays? Are you going
home right after that Abbotsford trip? Are you coming back
here to Tucson?

Speaker 5 (17:07):
No, as far as I know, I'm gonna stay here
in Tucson and kind of just hang out with the
guys and and just just rest and kind of reset cool.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Did you have any special gifts on your list of
Santa this year?

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Curtis No, not really trying to think.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Yeah, what is Curtis Douglas ask for?

Speaker 5 (17:30):
I'm pretty simple, I don't. I don't really care for
nice things. I'd rather like food or experience or something.
Maybe I'll try and get my girlfriend and I like
a concert or something for the summer, something cool like that.
I don't know, But I'm more of an experience or
a food guy than I am anything really material, So
kind of kind of a little bit more difficult that way,
but easier in a way for for saving money, I guess.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
No.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
I appreciate that I'm very much an experienced person too
over a tangible a tangible good. So I'm with you.
Swifty game is coming up on Friday Night. I don't
know if you knew that or were prepared. You had
to because you did the videos. You just did the videos.
You did a good job on the videos. And I'm
guessing that's because of your girlfriend that you know the

(18:18):
answer to Taylor Swift questions.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
No, ma'am, I like that.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
That's you.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Okay, Oh, I don't mind Taylor.

Speaker 4 (18:26):
So she's talented.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
I'm not the biggest fan of renewer works, but I
like the old Taylor Swift stuff quite a bit.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
She's very in her feels in the latest drops. So yeah,
it's gonna be it's gonna be interesting. But so we
did a little last Taylor Swift game last year. She's
literally released like I don't know, like thirty four new
songs or something like that since then. So it's gonna
be a fun game. Okay. So this is my question.
We made bracelets for you guys last year, which is

(18:54):
happening again this year. If you were gonna make a
bracelet for Ryan Gregor, what would it say if you're
going to make him a friendship bracelet.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
Mm hmm. Do you want this to be meaningful or funny?

Speaker 3 (19:07):
How about one of beach?

Speaker 5 (19:08):
Sure, if it was gonna be a funny one, I'd
probably say Pinocchio on it. Oh, then uh, it was
gonna be a go on, I'd probably say, like hmmm,
probably something like uh, I don't know, like like like uh,

(19:31):
trying to think something something meaningful, probably something to do
with like being funny or something I don't know or
like or like it's on it, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
You guys are living together again this season or now
for sure?

Speaker 5 (19:43):
Okay, we actually have Josh down now as well. He
just moved in a couple couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
Oh yeah, he told me about that. Okay, So everybody
talks about how Ryan McGregor is such a funny guy,
but he, to me seems so introverted. I've never seen
funny Ryan McGregor.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
He's a professional kid, that's why. Is that what it is? Professional?
When he needs to be oh right, right right?

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Yeah, rink, but home and away from the rink. I
guess he has a hard time shutting up.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
So so Curtis Teddybird toss this upcoming weekend. Just what
are you looking forward to for that to see all
the bears come out there on the ice. Have have
there been any talks in the locker room of guys
saying they're going to score that Teddy Bear Toss goal.
I'm not sure if you've ever scored one before either,
but you know, if you happen to score that first

(20:30):
goal for us, you've been on a good streak as
of late. Any sellies that you would do, is it
just kind of would all be in the moment.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
Yeah, I think it would be all in the moment,
But I honestly I didn't know it was the Teddybar
Toss this weekend. It's a special, special game. I'd assume
it's towards some sort of charity event thing, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Well it's pretty special. I think it's pretty cool when
you get a decent amount of bears too, so it
makes scoring that pretty special.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
But there hasn't been much talks yet.

Speaker 5 (20:55):
I'd assume day of it'll get a little more heated
towards that, And it's pretty cool when you're on the
ice and you get to see all the bears and
get hit with a couple.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Sorry, when I was gonna say, Curtis, do they have
you help rounding up the bears.

Speaker 5 (21:13):
Or yeah, just use our sticks to get them closer
for the for for the guys to clean them up,
which is makes a little easier faster.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
It goes really fast. Yeah, I always impressed.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
But it can take like ten minutes sometimes to clean
all those bears uff, So we do appreciate the help. Curtis,
You're on a good run as of recent. Three points
in your last three games. I talked to Igor Sokolov
after Saturday's game, and obviously it was a tough series,
but a lot of guys on this team right now,
I've been playing great hockey as a recent and I
told him about the points, but he didn't really say.
It's not about the points at the end of the day,

(21:44):
it's about just you know, playing your game and you'll
get rewarded eventually. And he actually did bring you up
as well. He said, he's you've been playing great all season,
and as true as that is, you know, sometimes the
points so show up and then it starts to get rewarded.
How do you just go to your go on your
game every day and play your game and sometimes maybe
you don't give reward with the points, but how do
you not let that gets you to eventually the point

(22:05):
the points start to come, and it's like, Okay, yeah,
this is what was expected to happen.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
Yeah, I mean, it's part of the game.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
You're not gonna especially in the role that I play,
You're not gonna score every night. It was really nice
to get that one off the back and get the
first one and and just kind of not worry about it.
But I feel like my game as of late has
been pretty solid, and even though the points weren't coming,
I was feeling like I was in a position where
it could it could happen at any moment, and uh,
just a lot of averages. You keep keep putting your
foot to the pedal. Eventually, eventually it starts going your way.

(22:34):
And and this weekend it it did a little bit,
which was nice and and honestly it's just been credit
to the teammates and Bear and and Matica and and
Drew and and a couple other guys who got to
play with who have been playing great as well, and uh,
just kind of like coming together and having more fun
and and focusing on the process and and now the
the other part is certain common. Hopefully I can strengthen

(22:56):
more together here.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Yeah, and you're pair than that line once again that
we saw a lot of last season with you, Travis,
Baron and Hunter drew lots of names for the lots
of names for the lines, you know, big boy line,
jugging out line. But just once again, what's it like
playing with those two and now that you guys are
kind of in year two of having that line together, Yeah,
it's awesome.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
It's a it's a privilege. I mean, they're awesome players,
awesome people. I I think I'm lucky every day to
be on the ice with them, and and.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
We're really really close off the ice. They're some of
my best friends.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
So it's it's pretty special and and I'm trying not
to take any of the days for granted and just
continue to have fun with some of my best friends.
And and when you get to hug them on the
ice even more fun. So when the puck goes in,
it's pretty special, and it's it's it's pretty cool, and
like I said, just trying to take good time.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
It was nice to see you smile this last week,
and Curtis, that was fantastic because you know, obviously we
don't have Ohl down here. You know that our kids
come up through a really different system. Staying in, what
does it look like? At what point in your past
career did you assume what your role was going to be,

(24:08):
what it's what it's become today. Like, at what point
in the past were you like, Okay, I'm good at this,
and then I'm gonna I'm gonna get better at it.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
Fortunately and fortunately for me, I've had I've had some
great mentors, great coaches growing up, and honestly, since I've
been pretty young, it's been pretty uh ingrained in my
mind the kind of role and player that I've got
to be to make it to the next level. And
like I said, i've been I've been fortunate enough to
ask people that I've really believed in me, and it's been,
like I said, it's a privilege and it's been really

(24:38):
special and I couldn't have done it without them, And
hopefully the next step will be able to credit to
them as well. And Yeah, so since some pretty young age,
since I was probably thirteen fourteen, I've I've always kind
of had in mind what I wanted to do and
what i wanted to be and I'm just kind of
continue to try and grind every day and continue to
get better and hopefully take that step of it actually

(25:00):
and and uh kind of have no regrets.

Speaker 4 (25:02):
Kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
We're all waiting for that next step for You're going
to be very excited for you. If I was going
to call your mom right now and ask her to
describe you at fifteen, what would she say about you
other than stinky, which all hockey players, all male players,
hockey players, and fifteen are horribly stinky. I'm sure.

Speaker 4 (25:21):
Are you talking about as a person or as a
hockey player.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
As a person?

Speaker 5 (25:27):
Oh, I was always uh, I was always kind of.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
As a person. As a person, I kind of like
to uh to always be outgoing and kind of one
of those people that you kind of got to step
on their throat to shut up. And uh, it's hard to.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
Get me to stop flapping my gums sometimes, but it
would get me into trouble sometimes, But most of the time,
I was looking out for other people's best interests and
and other people's needs before mine. And I think that's
been I'm gonna keep saying fortunate, But I've been fortunate
enough to have amazing parents and my brothers are awesome,
and people around my family that have been amazing and

(26:12):
shaping me into being a person that sees other people's
needs ahead of mine. And I love to say I'd
love to think that she would say that I was
a very kind and lighthearted individual that looked out for others.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
I love that. That's fantastic, but definitely very different than
how she just grabbed you as a hockey player.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Yeah, you also had a lot of family at the
games is past weekend in Calgary. I think you had
like two guests the first game and then twelve the
next one who all came to the games This past weekend, it.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
Was my mom's. My mom came.

Speaker 5 (26:45):
She flew into Calgary from Toronto and nice with her
best friend, and her best friend invited a bunch of
her family as well, which is really cool to meet them.
She's like a family friend. I've known her since I
was like three or four, so it was really cool
to see her. And she's a hockey family as well,
with with two boys, so it's uh, it was pretty
special to uh to see her and my mom and

(27:07):
awesome to see my mom and see her in a while.
So it's nice to have that, uh, that support, and
I might have to fly her up more often because
I ended up being a pretty good two games except
for the end results.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Yeah, sure was I mean? And just how was it
for all the other guys to have just you know,
family to come in and watch. Obviously those results aren't
what we wanted. But at the end of the day,
they you know, took time out of the really busy
schedules to you know, travel out to Calgary. Obviously it's
the closest spot that we can get to, but a
lot of them took time out there's busy schedules to
come to you guys playing. Just what did that mean
for you know, not only you, but the other guys

(27:40):
in that locker room.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Yeah, it's awesome.

Speaker 5 (27:42):
We have a lot of Canadians on the team, and uh,
it's pretty pretty interesting when we get to go back
to Canada, and especially in December, I thought it was
awesome to go in the city and see all the
lights and the Christmas colors and and and Christmas attire everywhere.

Speaker 4 (27:55):
It's so much different than than here where.

Speaker 5 (27:57):
It's not forgotten, but it's just being as it's much
much different. It doesn't really feel like Christmas, So I
think that was pretty special, and it's always it's always
awesome to see family and support systems and kind of
get that reset through them.

Speaker 4 (28:10):
So that was great.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Wait, seventy degrees and getting a tan outside doesn't equate
to Christmas for you.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
I don't get it.

Speaker 4 (28:18):
Yeah, arm yesterday and I was at the pool.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Oh goodness, Yeah, no kidding.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
So curtis a couple of your fights recently. I noticed
y'all had words before you like you weren't in the
middle of a scrum. You know, it was very deliberate
and dropping the gloves and getting to work. What are
the discussions like on the ice with the other person?
Is it very quick like you want to go or
do you know that it? Does it like like this

(28:45):
last weekend? Did it build up or what happened? What's
the transaction there?

Speaker 5 (28:51):
It depends on the person. The first one I think
was a gains Calgary as well, what of the last
year you're talking about? And he hit someone got hit
in the corner. That was a little bit, uh. I
didn't love So that was kind of just standing up
for one of my teammates. And then the other one
was I just didn't like the way our team started
the game, and I thought maybe we needed a little

(29:11):
bit of sparks. So it's kind of just seeing if
there's anyone there and I don't know, trying to do
something to help the team, and and uh uh that's
that's kind of how it was. There's a couple of words,
but most of the guys are pretty pretty professional about
it and and know that it's it's just business and
and uh, there's nothing really too uh too harm poll

(29:33):
about it, I guess you would say.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
And it's not like you're trying to kill each other.
It's we're doing jobs. So that's about it.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
This is kind of personal. But do you have all
you of your own teeth?

Speaker 4 (29:45):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (29:45):
My front four are all halfs, but I got most
of them. All are still in there.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Yeah, oh really, I guess it would be six.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
But oh interesting. I didn't know you could have a
half tooth. That's interesting.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
Like they're all just like feelings halfway down.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
That's fascinating. I had no clue. Wow, okay, interesting. So
would you say you've talked about both the serious side
of hockey and the fun side of hockey? Is it
fun or is it serious?

Speaker 4 (30:13):
Is what fighting hockey.

Speaker 5 (30:16):
Oh, I think when people get too serious about it, it
gets less fun. At the end of the day, we're
grown men playing one of the most fun games in
the world. And when you stop seeing it like that
is when when you start to see less success, I think.
And when you have fun, you play better, is what
I think. So, I mean a lot of people are

(30:37):
different in the way they approach it, but in my approach,
I think the more fun that I'm having, the better
I play. To an extent, and as having a pretty
good time.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Yes, it's always fun.

Speaker 4 (30:48):
Fun.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Holiday season coming up, Teddy Bear Toss coming up this
weekend for you guys, it's just another short stretch of games.
But are you guys going to take one of them
at a time and uh, just get a nice stretch
before the holidays.

Speaker 4 (31:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (31:01):
I think we're not too happy last couple of games
and the results, And I think we're doing a lot
of growing this week and hoping to really take it
to our next couple opponents and come out with some
wins and go to this break and reset with our
families with a with a grin and hopefully be in
a in a much better spot than all right now.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Perfect man we'll be looking forward to it. Thanks for
coming on the show again, we really appreciate it, and
then we'll see you this upcoming weekend for Teddy Bear.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
Toss Sweet Thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
A lot of guys have been playing great on this
roster right now. Kim I talked to talk to Igor
Sokolov about it, and you know, just the the way
has he's he's been saying it. You know, a lot
of guys have been playing great this season. Obviously the
stats done show, but you know, guys are just starting
to kind of get rewarded now. And of course we
say his name all the time, but Josh Doane has
been He's been on an electric run lately. He has

(31:51):
seven are part of nine points in his last seven games,
had a goal and an assist last Friday in Calgary,
had an assist on the Saturday game as well. I
believe in his last seven games six to them he
has points in as well. So we're really starting to
see Josh Done just kind of just play like himself again,
maybe playing with an extra step from from last season.

(32:13):
I see a lot of development from last season to
this year. You know, just the way he's been playing
and I'm excited to just see what else he can
do this upcoming weekend.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
Josh is the kind of not just player, but the
kind of person who seems like he's constantly growing. So
the fact that his game is advancing and that he
is becoming more and more of the player that I
think he wants to become, right you know, Like he
doesn't seem like he's the kind of person who is

(32:46):
satisfied at any level. Like no matter where he's at,
he's going to constantly be pushing himself. So watching him
right now is a lot of fun. Calgary was interesting
because I think Calgary played at a level last weekend
we had expected from them since the beginning, and and

(33:06):
the thing about it that I thought was interesting is
that we were there with them for most of it.
You and I talked about this, like the road Runners
didn't didn't lose the plot at any point. They were
there with them. They were skating hard in the third
you know, using you know, absolute last resources to to
try and meet the Wranglers where they were. It's just

(33:30):
the Wranglers were William Stromgrin. I don't want to, I don't.
I hate that he was. He was an absolute minute.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
I said that name so many times on that on
those broadcasts, and yeah, seventeen seconds in the game one,
he scored a minutes and one second, sorry, three minutes
and one second into Game two, both on breakaways, and
it's like, oh my gosh. Yeah, you know what was
so tough about that series, Kim, We just we were
playing catch up the whole time, you know. Yeah, and

(34:01):
we played good games. We had good third periods, like
we almost came back in both, but you know, talking
to some of the guys and the coaches after those games,
it's like, you can't. You got to do that the
full sixty minutes. You know, you can't go down early
against a team like Calgary. And it's funny because I
talked to their media guy Rees yet Sched I believe

(34:24):
that's his that's how you say his last name. He said, like, yeah, man,
Ever since you guys swept us, we kind of just
like we took that personally and we've we've gone on
a run and they have now they're winners of the
of last five, I believe, and part of that is
it was sweeping us. So yeah, the Wranglers, I believe
it's the last four last four or five. But yeah,

(34:45):
Wranglers took that sweep by Hearts and now they're on
a good run. You know, obviously, you guy give credit
where credits toe. They're a good team, and we played
a good game, but the beginning stages of each one
just we just couldn't do it well.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
And I think that this more than anything, was an
excellent learning opportunity for the team as a whole, right
because Calgary was so intense from the very first punk
drop on Friday night, like it was, you know, they
obviously showed that they were not there to play pun intended.

(35:20):
They were not there to play games. They were going
to go hard as hard as they possibly could the
entire time. And and I you know that then us
having to match that can be difficult. So why are
we not playing our game from the very beginning? And
I think that that's you know, especially for the younger guys.
You take this information about Calgary, you use it for

(35:41):
every other team that we see this season, and you know,
you just push and you know that you can't sit
back on your heels at any time. And we talk
about this division all the time and how insane this
division is, but when you look at the stats of
this division versus other divisions. It's it's really jarring. How

(36:05):
the Wranglers are the number one team in the in
the league right now.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Yeah, they're back to number one. Yeah, so when we
swept them, we got them down to number two. So
they also did not like that. You know. It's like
they I don't know they they actually no, technically they're
back in second. I believe they're two points behind.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
No, we're looking at.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Two different ones because there are two points behind Hershey.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
At the moment, they're two points behind her. She was
looking at that.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
Place in a conference. So like that's you know, and
again like none of these you hardly ever see a
Western team play an Eastern team anyways, until like it's
to call a cup final. What I hate about it
is like, no, I guess I'm not too worried, but like,
I just don't want to see a Hershey, I don't
want to see the Hershey Bears reached the car.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
I'm over it.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yes, I'm a little over it, you know. And again,
they're they're a good team, and they you got to
respect the good teams like like they are. But it's like,
come on, let's let's start seeing other teams. And I
remember the Cleveland Monsters were so close to beating them
last year in their Eastern Conference final. I think Cleveland
made like a were there even down by like three games,
and they came back and almost won it. But what

(37:14):
that means to.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
Do for a rebuilding year here pretty soon?

Speaker 2 (37:18):
I know, Well, that's the thing. Like in the AHL,
you you hardly get rebuild years because you can know,
you can just keep signing guys to one year deals
because that's that's that's just kind of how it works
in this league. You can either be aggressive or not
be aggressive and play your prospects, or you can try
to mix in the vets in that system as well.
And that's what the Roadvers did this offseason. And obviously,
you know, ten and ten on the year through the

(37:40):
first twenty games were past the quarterway point, and you know,
not really at that stage anymore where we're saying like, oh,
it's a it's a progress, it's it's all process, and
it still is, but you know, we need to, you know,
start seeing the results a little bit. The Roadvers did
have a good stretch where there were five and one
in the last six games going into the series versus Calgary,
so you know, and again there were two still really

(38:01):
close games the Roadrunners were well within both of them.
But now this is a more favorable six game stretch
for Tusoon. We have two against Henderson this weekend. They're
near the last in the Pacific Division that we have
two against San Diego, not in back to backs, but
still very quickly later because we have this Friday Saturday
game and then a Monday Wednesday game. Then we fly

(38:22):
on over to Abbotsford for a two game series, all
before Christmas. And I think the tough thing about that is,
you know, you just don't want that mentality of I'm
so close to seeing my family, I'm so close to
being home finally for a few days. Let's just get
through these games. No, we need to be ready for
these matchups and we need to go full steam ahead
through these games and then enjoy the time off.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
Yeah, you're one hundred percent right. And the shirk closest
to the boat right now is Henderson, who are currently
sitting at six fifteen oh to oh but with three
hundred and sixty one penalty minutes, which is the highest
in the league right now, that's usually us right, I know.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
Yeah, that is.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
Actually we've actually done a good job at staying out
of the penalty box this year.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
We we yeah, we have. We've talked about the more
mature game that the team is playing. We're thirty minutes
behind them in penalty minutes. So I'm expecting a very
scrappy game this weekend, not not at our at our urging,
but I think Henderson is going to be They're just
gonna scrap. I have a feeling that's the way that

(39:25):
it's gonna go. They're gonna get those disco chrome domes
on and they're gonna, you know, they're gonna want to. Yes,
because we've got Curtis on the show, we can talk
to talk to him about that.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
But we are. We are wearing our Kachinas this weekend
for the first time this year, So Kachis are making
their Saturday. I believe might be both games. I'm not sure. Yeah,
I have to I have to double check that we
might be wearing them both games, just so because we'd
have to make Henderson bring both jerseys. That's a lot
of work for on their end as well for the

(39:55):
equipment staff. But with that being said, if Henderson wears
their whites, then no, they are not going to be
wrapping the domes. So yeah, that's actually a good question
to have to doubles check. I know for sure Saturday
we're wearing the kachinas. Bridday might still be in questions,
but regardless, katinas are coming this weekend. Finally they are here,
They're ready to rip. I'm excited to wear my purple

(40:16):
tie that I wear every Kachina game, which I feel
like I was wearing all the time last year because
we just kind of wear the katinas the rest of
the way once we get them.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
We had a lot of Kachina games last year. Wait, so,
so Henderson doesn't wear the chrome dome if they're wearing
what color?

Speaker 2 (40:31):
If if Henderson only wears the chrome dome when they're
in their silver jerseys, if that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
It danes, But I've seen their silver helmets in the
in the building before, so I'm trying to remember what
color they were wearing. Well, believe me, we do a
whole disco ball thing about it.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
No, because the first half of the season, you know,
the away teams wear the home jerseys. Home jerseys wear
their ways, but and against teams can sometimes choose that
they want to wear their home jerseys, like the Roaders
are doing with their katinas. When Henderson has their whites,
they don't bring the Combe helmets. They wear their white helmets.

Speaker 3 (41:05):
I understand. I'm telling you, I've seen them before. They
have been Oh no, no, they've been here before.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
I'm just saying they I don't know if they're gonna
be here or not, because I don't think they try
to miss the match them up and I'm pretty sure
we'll wing Kachina's both games, so it might be I
need to ask that question. But carls of that, Yeah, Kim.
Two big games coming this weekend. We have Teddy Bear
Toss on Saturday, Swifty Night on Friday. But yeah, I'm
really excited for this Teddy Bear Toss. Bring as many

(41:31):
Teddies as you possibly can, bring all the stuffed animals.
We have our season ticket member holiday party very soon.
We're actually gonna be pre recording one of our next
Happy Hour shows right before Christmas. So this you'll be uh,
we'll be on the radio once again recording that and
it will play it for you folks. For I believe
that's gonna be a Christmas eve showing. So yeah, it's

(41:52):
gonna be a fun time. We're grabbing Ardum, Duda, Peter Delibatory,
and Dylan Wells.

Speaker 3 (41:58):
I'm looking forward to. We haven't talked to any of
these guys all season. Artem's brand new right, never never
talked to us at all. I don't think have you
talked to him on the Insider podcast?

Speaker 2 (42:09):
No, not yet. No, this will be the first time.
This is gonna be Artam dude to his radio debut.
I haven't talked to Peter yet this season. We haven't
talked to well since he has been back here in Tucson,
So it's gonna be a lot of great insight. I
think all those guys have had tremendous stories in their
young and early careers, and it's gonna be a great
time talking to them. So we're looking forward to it.

Speaker 3 (42:30):
Yeah, and I know Dylan Wells is a fan favorite.
When he's not here, I frequently get asked where he is,
so I think lots of people will be listening to
that one big, big, big draw for Dylan.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
Yeah, perfect, looking forward to all Right, Kim, great show
once again. We'll see everybody at the season ticket member
party shortly and we'll see you all later on this week.
And for Teddy Bear Toss, this has been roaders Happy Hour.
Have a great rest of your night, folks,
