us this show very very soon is the all star
Cameron he Big, Kim, Hey, Hi, how's it going good?

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Here are you?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
It's good. We had a great day today. A little
side start we had. The VA here today is a
nonprofit organization that helps recovering veterans. And they came by
practice today and met Steve Popvin and the captain Osabaganski.
Kevin cannot in the Robbi Russo as well, showed them
the locker room. Our equipment manager Eric Bechdel showed them

(01:06):
around as well, show them Matthew Waltz's old mask and
a couple of skates kind of explained to them what
he does, and it was it's been an awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Day, that's fantastic. Okay, So I felt, I think Dylan
Wells's mask when he was here, those goalie masks are heavy.
They're super heavy. Have you not never held did anybody
say anything about that when they were visiting, because and
when I picked it.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Up to it, well, okay, so the vets were like
holding the helmet, but yeah, I don't know, I didn't
hear anything about anyone saying it's heavy.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
I need somebody to like talk to me of if
that was because I was I couldn't imagine that amount
of weight on my shoulders as I'm skating around and
trying to stop pugs. I mean, it's intense, and I
know it has to be intense to to stop the
pugs that it needs to do. And Maddie's helmet actually
think came flying off at our last.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Name, which is scary domed hard.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Yeah, that was super super scared.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
His head. His hair is kind of long now, so
he kind of had to like suing it act that like,
you know, get that, get the helmet, back on. I
don't know, maybe when we get Jackson Stobber on the
show eventually, Uh, we can ask him, you know, what's
what it's like kind of holding your helmet, like so curious.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
And it had nothing to do with the veterans. I'm
so excited that the veterans were here and got a chance,
yeah to horror and spend time and understand. And I
mean I'm a vet, so obviously that's those are right people.
So very very excited for that. Yeah, I definitely need
to get them back out here again. I think.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, it was great when Steve came out first. Uh
kind of got them in a circle and just thank
them for their service, and you know, just hap to
have him here and he kind of, you know, doing
what Steve does, you know, just having some philosophical things
to say. Yeah, and you know he's like, yeah, we're
on a Well the funny part was he was like,
he's like, what, we're on a five six game. Like

(02:46):
he turns to me and Chase, He's like, well, we're
on a five six game losing for good. It's like, ah,
who's counting? Who's counting? Steve? But yeah, no, it was
a fantastic day. Steve just always great to have. And
then yeah, Paganski cannot and Robbie Russo came out and
Travis barn as well and gave him some pugs. Got
to meet them and yeah, and then we kind of

(03:06):
walked them around the concourse. I showed them the press box,
showed them my radio gear, explain to them my role
chases role as well. Bennett came by when practice started
and kind of just told them of all what we
do and then showed them by the benches too. We
didn't we didn't go on the ice, don't worry. We
showed them on the fan side of the benches and
then once the guys took the ice, we took them

(03:27):
to the locker room so that it was less chaos
in there, and then got to show them around. So yeah,
it was an awesome day. You know, it's it's gonna
be a great week. We have this season ticket member
signing day coming up tomorrow nights as well, so that
would be a that'll be a fantastic day. We're grabbing
McGregor and Lamouf for that. We're gonna do a little
pre recorded special for All Star breaks.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
So yeah, I'm excited for our season ticket members to
be able to yeah, to get to I know that
they love talking to the players and this is a
great opportunity for them to get some good one on
one time with the players. And it's actually Maverick Clamor.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah, kind of new new face. We haven't talked to him.
I mean I've interviewed him a couple of times, but
he's fantastic. We haven't had him on the show yet.
We haven't had GREGGI on the show yet either, So yeah,
that should that should be a fun one. And yeah,
the busy wee continues. We have two big games coming
up versus the Ontario Rain on a six game losing streak,
so you know, it would be it's nice to have

(04:21):
the guys that have their practice this week kind of
get back into the swing of things and just some
stuff to figure out. But you know, it's it's still
a long season. It's every team goes through a stretch
like this, so we're just gonna keep it rolling. Now,
joining us forward All Star Cameron he big Cameron things
for joining us first off man, Congratulations. Uh just couldn't

(04:43):
be more happier for you. You know, it's been a
fantastic season. You're you're playing off the rails right now,
and seeing that notification at email from the league saying
that you would be added to the All Star roster
made my morning and can't even imagine how you're feeling
about it. Thank you.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
I appreciate that, Johnny. Yeah, I'm super excited. It's gonna
be a be a great experience and I'm really looking
forward to it. And it's great I get to to
get to go and experience that, and family is gonna
come down and experience it with me, So we're we're
super excited and I'm just really looking forward to it.
I think it's gonna be a jam packed a couple
of days and lots of events and meeting new guys

(05:21):
and so I've heard it's it's a great, great couple
of days and first time experiencing this. So I'm, like
I said, I'm super excited and can't wait to go.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
And I know, like, obviously during a season, you're you're
focused on the play, You're focused on winning. But was
there any thought in the back of your head that
maybe there is a shot you made it? And adding
to that question, what was your reaction when you were
told that you were going to the All Star Games.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah, not really. I wasn't really thinking about it. No,
I was just kind of focused on focus, focused on
our season and going day by day and going about
the day's business. And you know, it's getting the call
from John Forderson, it was. It wasn't expected, you know,
it was, but uh he called me, and I was just, yeah,

(06:06):
I had no plans and for the All Star breaks,
so I was I jumped at it, and I'm super
excited to go and so but uh, yeah, it's it's
been a great, great a couple of weeks here.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah, That's what I'm always worried about, right, Like, you know,
we get tour, we get our initial roster, and I'm
never sure if some guys planned, like to go out
of town or anything for the All Star breaks. So
I'm glad that you were able to, uh to plan
out for it. And yeah, just what you like looking
most forward to, you said, you know, meeting the other
stars of the league. It's it's in a new venue
of course in Coachella Valley, and uh, you know anything

(06:40):
that you're kind of preparing for for those skills competition
and that three on three.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah, well, it's gonna be a lot of fun. I'm
not sure what skills I'm I'm gonna be doing. I
had to put in the order of which which ones
I would prefer, so, uh, waiting to hear on that.
So we'll see. And then uh, three on three, that'll
be a lot of fun. And I like I like
playing three on three. It's uh, I think it's a
lot of suits my game good. So, but uh, yeah,

(07:07):
I don't really know what to expect her that. I've
been trying to pick other guys' brains that have been there.
Valalta and Agazino and Russo and Connton, they've all been
to one, so they've kind of been filling me in
in their experience and kind of what to expect and
that sort of things. So but yeah, it'll be fun.
It's a first time experience and girlfriends coming down and family,

(07:28):
so it'll be nice to have them there. And uh,
we're we're looking forward to.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Were you at home when you got the call? And
then who was your first call after you hung up
with John Ferguson?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Yeah, I called my mom. Yeah she Uh she's always
been my rock and so supportive of me, and uh,
she's been through it all for me and the ups
and downs, and she's always there to offer advice and
help me through things. And so I I thank God
every day for her. She's she's amazing and super thankful

(08:01):
for her to kind of lean on her when things
are tough and she always seems to know what to say.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
And wait, what is her name?

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Diana?

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Have we talked about her before?

Speaker 3 (08:11):
No?

Speaker 2 (08:12):
We have.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
I don't never talked about your mom.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Oh that's awesome, big shout out Todayana, he big? Yeah, Yes,
what does she do? What's what's her job?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
She works for the university in uh for the University
of Saskatchewan distance Education and okay, so yeah, but yeah
she's looking forward to retirement here and uh so uh
yeah yeah so soon. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
So you said your your whole family's coming right and
your girlfriend? Is there anything you're going to show them
out in Palm Springs with the games that we've played there,
what you've seen in our trips.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Yeah, it. Palm Springs is a great, great spot for
this All Star event to happen. And it's so nice
that we're lucky we get to go there with the
road Runners here, so kind of experienced some of it,
and I love it every time. It's just so beautiful.
The weather is always nice, and golf courses and shopping
and that kind of thing. So but yeah, my sister

(09:06):
in law's grandparents live there, so I think they'll they'll
do some touring with my mom and kind of show
them around. And last time when they we were there,
they showed me around. They know the spots and kind
of where to go, so it'll be good. It worked
out good for it to be there and then living
there so they can take in the the All Star

(09:26):
events too.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
And how is your niece doing?

Speaker 2 (09:28):
How old is she now?

Speaker 3 (09:30):
She's awesome. Yeah, she's uh, she's too now. So yeah,
it's she's growing up fast, she's changing. And they actually
just had another they had a baby boy.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Oh my god, congratulations, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Thank you so in uh in January here so uh
baby Nash and uh so yeah, Lena, and so it's
been an exciting time for the family and uh to
see their their family growing and it's it's so fun
to see and getting to FaceTime them and just see
how happy they are. And Lena is always hugging her

(10:07):
little brother and giving her giving them kisses and so
it's it's so awesome to see and I can't wait
to get back and see them in person.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
That's fantastic. That's awesome, Cameron. We talk frequently about how
many times have you been the hardest working player, like
you just are a mass producer at this point of
goals and assists, you're just making points happen. And we've
seen your trajectory over the last how many seasons have
you been with us? Four or five?

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Five?

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Just absolutely your trajectory is like where all my all
my stocks I'm hoping are going. But so how for
yourself do you find how do you define success? What
does that look like for you? Do you think you're
successful now or are you constantly looking onto what's next?

Speaker 3 (10:55):
That's a good question. Yeah, I'm always trying to describe
trying to get better. I don't think you can be
ever satisfied. This game is too good. As soon as
you think you are good, there's someone's gonna pass you.
So you always have to be striving and looking for
ways to get better and improve. And I think coming
into this league, yeah, seven years ago, I've learned so

(11:15):
much and just mentally and how to face that there's
ups and downs. It's it's a long season, and so
getting stronger mentally I think has helped me over the
years and learning learning that way and experiencing and but
for sure I'm I'm still learning in that department too.
I think it's a huge part of it. And physically too.

(11:37):
I think, yeah, in the summers, working on skills and
off ice stuff and working with our skills coach here, Brian,
he's been really helpful to me. And so yeah, I
think you always have to be striving to get better
and keep improving and working at your craft.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
We'll get back to Brian in a second, but I
just wanted to point out, so you just had a
birthday last week, is that right? Okay? Last week? So
you're a Capricorn. So I had to look you up.
And I'm sure that you don't believe in astrology, but
I just have to say, after that answer, I looked
up what capricorn means. Okay, relentless and persistent. You're your
own biggest critic, but you love power and leadership when

(12:13):
things are going really well for you. So I just
had to share that with you because it sounds very
much like your answer. So yeah, Okay, So going back
to Brian though, what does it look like Brian's the
skills coach. Yes, so we don't have him here all
the time. He's only here sometime. When he's here, are
you just constantly utilizing him to to just grow and

(12:36):
get better?

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I try to.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Yeah. He usually if we have a week off for
days between games, he'll come down and practice with us.
And so it's been awesome. He lives up in Phoenix,
so he comes down and works with us, and for sure,
whenever he's available, I try to hop on it because
he's he's just so knowledgeable about the game, and he's
so fun to work with and good guy. And I

(13:00):
think he just brings a lot. He eat like his
skill work, it's it translates well to the game and
just the stuff he does it. I see it in games,
and I see how valuable it can be. And just
his mind of how to show me clips and stuff
like that, how to get open and offensive his own
plays and that kind of thing. So it gives me
a different view on things that side of it mentally too,

(13:23):
And and and just the skills I think in the
puck touches and and uh and working on that because
a regular practice, you know, I mean, you don't. You
don't get a whole lot of puck touches and shots.
So I think if you can stay out later and
kind of kind of work on the skills that way
and kind of refine them, and I've found it helps
with just confidence and hanging on to pucks and making play.

(13:44):
So it's been it's been awesome to get to work
with him.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
I have a question about your pregame routine because it
seems very regimented, but you don't play Super Bowl, and
so I was curious how number one you avoided that
because this is all encompassing. It feels like but you're
very like you have your your head on, you're not
looking around, everything is on straight, and you're just like

(14:09):
very very focused. But it seems like if I could,
I could probably set a clock by the things that
you do pregame.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
So what does it look like for you?

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Yeah, I try to get here pretty early, usually one
of the first guys in the rank for game day,
and I would say, yeah, I'm pretty tiled. I have
a routine and I like to go roll out and
stretch when I first get here and maybe get a
and then maybe go get a banana and peanut butter
sandwich and and then yeah, I I I kind of

(14:43):
hang out and do my thing, and and then there's
meetings and yeah, I try to just try to focus
and think about the game and that kind of thing.
I've played with it over the years. Sometimes I think
if I'm too serious, too focused. Yeah, so it's it's
kind of a balance for me. Sometimes it is good
to loosen up and have fun and joke around and
but other days I'm kind of just in the zone
and don't feel like talking. And so yeah, it's a

(15:06):
long season, and I think, uh, you got to find
out what works for you. And I think I've I've
found a nice balance for myself.

Speaker 4 (15:13):
Do you have any superstitions that you're willing to share
or are you still superstitious?

Speaker 2 (15:17):
You will share your superstitions.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
I'm actually not superstitious, really, no, okay, because I mean, yeah,
if if it doesn't go for you one game and right,
and then so then it's in your head, oh I
didn't get to do this certain thing and then it
and then it's so I try not to let that
mass with me if if you know, so, it's uh,
I think that's the mental game as well. You just
got to go with the flow, and and that's why

(15:42):
it is.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
It's interesting because I think fans have a lot of superstitions,
and I feel like hockey fans maybe more than other
fans have superstitions. Yeah. Like even my ten year old
cousin was like, oh, I wore my Grace sweats and
they lost, So I know I can never wear my
Grace wets to the TCC again. So yeah, so we
play like I even like I used a certain pen
and we win, I will be using that pen the

(16:02):
next time that we play, just in case case it
has any bearing on what's happening at all. So you
don't have any superstitions like that.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Uh No, I just I don't really wear anything sirtain.
I mean, I wear a purple tie for our chatinas,
but it's not like a oh if we win, I'm
gonna were type of things. So no, I just don't think. So, okay,
all just gotta go with the flow. Sure, sure, I
appreciate that Cam obviously tougher stretch for us right now
than you know, what we've been accustomed to in the
last two years. But as you just said, it's the

(16:32):
more you look at the negatives, they're gonna build on you, right,
And all you can do is is look ahead. And
you know I always say is you know, you can't
get out of the hole until you stop digging, right.
And it's a tough series against the Ontario Rain. But
I think it's good that we're got a good, nice
practice weekend, you know, getting the extra work. But yeah,
just what's the game plan for for this weekend in
Ontario and what's the kind of the message in the

(16:54):
locker room right now? Just for us to just try
to get out of this funk going into the All
Star break.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Yeah, I think it's up to us. We got to
focus on moving forward and solving this, and I think
this week off here will help. We had a good
meeting today and good good video excuse me, and just
focusing on how we can get back to, you know,
our values and what we focus on in the standard
and getting back to what we're good at, because yeah,
it's been a bit of a struggle for us and

(17:20):
a little bit of a slides here. So I think
just getting back to that foundation and I think Potsy
has been focusing on that and it's up to us
in the room. Obviously, losing that many I think is unacceptable,
and you know, you gotta win games. It's tight, tight
division and every team is good, so I think we

(17:41):
have the group in there to do it and and
to figure it out. So just getting back at it
and having this week and kind of working hard and
and you know, just getting back to I know I
keep repeating it, but yeah, just working hard and and
focusing on that, putting in the extra effort and what
each guy can do to get better. I think that
was the message today and I think guys took that,

(18:03):
and we're gonna work and and have a good weekend here.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
And that's what I'm always excited, right, you know, it's
it's two more games for to grow and for more
opportunities as well. And yeah, it's been a slide, but
there's just still so much season left, and you know,
how are we gonna try to use this? You know,
we're we're more than halfway through now, with you know,
maybe a couple more games, but you know what, what's
your takeaways from the first half of the season going

(18:27):
into half number two now, especially with you know that
that line of you Peganski and Yamamoto really connecting together
and just for everyone else as well.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Yeah, I think, uh, I think as a group, we've
proved that we can play with any team. You know,
we'll have good periods and and show that we can
play with anyone. So it's about putting it together for
sixty minutes and uh doing that. And I think during
the season it's there's there's always stretches of adversity and
and ups and down. So but as a group, you

(18:56):
can learn from that, learn from those adversity times because
when it comes down to the end of the season
in playoffs, and you can look back on those experience
and and those have helped you become stronger team Bill,
you build your relationships and will help us down the
stretch for sure. So we can look at this as
a as a learning curve and and use it to
our advantage. I like that.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
That's a super healthy positive mindset. Yeah, I really appreciate that.
What are you reading right now?

Speaker 3 (19:24):
I just finished, Yeah, I just finished The Mountain is You?
Brianna West is the author, and then she has another book,
one hundred and one Essays That Will Change Your Life,
which I just started yesterday. Same author. My girlfriend gave
me both of them, so she she seems like a

(19:45):
good author, and I'm enjoying them so far.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
Wait, and what's your girlfriend's name? You talk about your girlfriend,
but we don't know who she is. Haley Hailey? Okay,
I have seen her a few times postgame, but I
haven't had a chance to meet her yet. So what
does she think your Tucson is? Is she a fan?
It's very different.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Yeah, she loves it. Yeah. We're both from Saskatoon and
so it's cold there in the winter, and so she
loves coming down in the sun and the heat and
it's uh, you know, taking around hikes and showing around Tucson,
and I think she likes it. I think, how can
you know? I love it here and living in Arizona,

(20:23):
and so it's always nice when she's down and we
can too around and see a little bit of the city.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
How much time do we have?

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Well?

Speaker 2 (20:31):
I got a question. I gotta ask one, okay, and
you can you talked about this? Okay?

Speaker 4 (20:35):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Do you watch football at all?

Speaker 3 (20:37):
Not much?

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Not much? Okay?

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Well wait wa wait, do you watch TV at all?

Speaker 3 (20:41):
A little bit?

Speaker 4 (20:42):
Okay, okay, a little bit.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
So I don't know if you saw it. So a
player on the Eagles was reading a book on the sideline.
It was Brown. He was reading the book in Her Excellence.
I don't know if you've ever read it before.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Okay, I think I've heard of it. I've never read that, okay.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
So yeah, so he's he's reading it on the sideline
and I sent it to him.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
It's like between plays, yeah, like during game and I
sent it.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
To Kim and I'm like, Cameron, heap I can see
him doing in between hies. Sorry, I just had to
bring that up and see, like, Okay, how would you
relate to this?

Speaker 3 (21:14):
But yeah, that's good. I like that he's maybe he
had a bad play and he goes back and what
he can work what he can work on mentally, I
like some motivation.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
Yeah, yeah, no, I appreciate that. Caim. If you had
an extra hour a day, what would you do with it?
Would you be on the ice?

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Oh? Man, I'm not sure what I would do. That's
a good question. I feel like I make the most
of my days.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
And yeah, you're so regimented. Yeah, you're like, I don't
need an extra fitting it.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Maybe some sleep, I don't know, call the family. Yeah, yeah,
how about you.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
Oh my gosh, I didn't expect you to ask me question. Oh,
I'd probably prioritize the gym a little bit more. I try.
It's it's so hard in the wintertime. I know it's
warm for you guys here, but it's so cold here
right now. Like normally during the summer time, I would
wake up at like five and go to the gym
when it's nice outside. And now I just cannot get

(22:11):
up early because it's so cold and dark outside. Yeah. So,
and I'm not a nighttime gym person. It has to
be first thing in the morning. But if I wake
up at seven thirty, I got to get to work
right away, you know, like you don't have half time.
So if I had an extra hour, I would try
and figure out a way to get to the gym. Yeah,
more efficiently.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Yeah, some days that extra hour would be nice, that's
for sure.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Yeah, one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
I would just sleep the extra hour, would you just?
I don't I love sleep.

Speaker 4 (22:35):
I love sleep too. Put my body no matter what
time I go to sleep the night before, my body
will automatically wake up at seven thirty at the latest.
I'm one of those people, and I get mad. I'm
like mad at my brain when I wake up at
seven thirty. If I went to yeah, if I went
to sleep at four am, it doesn't matter. I know
I'm only going to get three and a half hours
of sleep.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
It's like my brain is like, yeah, that internal clock,
it's on it, it's on it.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
What's your proudest accomplishment today? I know, I know you're
only twenty eight years old, you haven't been on this
planet a ton of time. But what's your proudest accomplishment
so far? Lo's to come?

Speaker 3 (23:08):
But oh wow, that's a good question. I don't know.
Maybe signing my first NHL contract that was pretty excited
for me and the family. And yeah, I don't know,
playing the Moral Cup was a good experience and hockey wise,

(23:31):
so yeah, those were probably the first two.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Yeah, I know what.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
I love that. Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
Do you want to hear a joke. This is a
country joke. I think that you might appreciate.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Sure, are you ready?

Speaker 4 (23:44):
How do you get a country girl's attention? How attractor?

Speaker 2 (23:49):
That's good?

Speaker 4 (23:52):
That is good? I love that special for you?

Speaker 2 (23:54):
That is good? Thank you?

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Yes, country? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Give you got anything? Anything else?

Speaker 4 (23:58):
Who's your roadrommate right now.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
I was with Donor and then he got called up.
Guys are so different here we are, Yes, his roommates, Yes, I.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Remember when he got signed back to us, like they
were saying, like a big he's rooming with you, and
then you're just like that's fine. I think did you
have your own room before that?

Speaker 3 (24:16):
Or uh before Donor? I don't know. I think I
was jumping around with Okay, I forget who, but yeah,
with Donor, he yeah he stays up a little later
than me and on his phone. But no, he's a
great guy. He's good to do with him. But now
now that he's gone him with mav Lamoru, ok so.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Tell us a little bit about just getting the Utah
reassignments at this point.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
Yeah, yeah, he's been good. He I think he likes
to sleep like me. He goes to bed at the
decent time, but still pretty fresh. So we'll see. I've
only had a few nights with him, so we'll see.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Yeah, you get ready for the Gem show. Yeah, yeah,
we got two straight weeks.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
We got a few weeks ahead of us, so we'll
be get to know each other. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
Yeah, lots of bus time coming up too.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Right, Yeah, we're flying the San Jose and then kind
of busting all the way all the way back, all
the way back. Did you know San Jose to like
on Bakersfield, Ontario two and Henderson and then one Coachell
Valley and then yeah, so.

Speaker 4 (25:18):
Were you aware of that?

Speaker 3 (25:19):
I actually, yeah, I got the schedule.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
You got to schedule this morning or yes, something.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Yeah, yeah, it'll be it'll be a big trip and
a long time on the road. So yeah, we're looking
to have a successful road trip here. We got to
start strains and wins together, and it'll be good to
get on the road, get together with the guys and
start to figure it out here and and start winning
some games.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
Okay, I have one more question, so you know, I
don't know if you know, but Chason Bennett will be
coming to the All Star Games as well. Are excited
to have them on the road with you, and you
can say see what Benner comes up with for social
media wise.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
I have Yeah, Bennett actually he told me the earther
day he's coming down, and uh so I was excited
to here. It'll be good to know some familiar faces
there and see them there, and uh so it'll be
good well.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Perfect Cam. Thanks so much.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
We'll be cheering for you.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
Thank you, Sarin for Yeah, we'll be watching congratulations again
and uh goodluck this weekend in Ontario and uh we'll
see what the GEMP show trip as well.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
All right, thank you both, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Just having the All Star Cameron Hebig on the show earlier. Man,
I just love the fact that, uh he has his
family's going with him, Kim. That was a that was
a curveball. I did not uh expect to hear, but
obviously super happy that his family and his girlfriend are
going out to spend some time with him at the
All Star Games. And uh yeah, you can just tell

(26:37):
this has been kind of all a shock to him.
You know, I don't think he expected it at all,
even though he said he didn't, I really thought he
meant that I didn't expect to be selected at all.
But here we are, and uh yeah, just could be
more happier for the guy. He's worked so hard to
get to this point and to think we have a
whole other second half of the season, you know, this
is Yeah, you just feel like Cameron Heebig's just getting

(27:00):
arded and I think watching him at the All Star
Games will get the showcases skill with the best of
the best, and then uh, he'll come back to the
road Runners and we'll go on the very important gem
show trip and I just think Cam and hebigs you know,
as you said, Kim, like you said you you wish
it was your stocks, right, just slowly. I feel like

(27:21):
if you're looking at like a chart, you're like, yeah,
it's slowly, maturely getting better. And then this is like
the the year where it's like boom, there you go,
like way up, and now you might start to see
that go more and more up. So again, couldn't be
more happier for Cam.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
He deserves this. Uh deserves the world worked so hard
to get to this point. And uh, yeah, I'm just
excited for him.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
I like that this puts him in front of you know,
it puts him in front of a lot of people.
He is an incredibly not just an incredibly talented player,
but a player who is willing to put in the
time and effort that you need to put into play
at this level and to play at the next level. Right,
he doesn't just take it for granted. If the ice

(28:04):
is in, he's out there, he's working Hard. I had
an opportunity today to meet Tyler Slaney, who is John
Slaney's son, and that was yes, and just chat a little.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
That he is I'm using having longer hair. I think
he got a haircut. I haven't met him yet.

Speaker 4 (28:24):
He is doing an internship with Parker Poort this season.
He's a student at a su and doing an internship
with Parker Poor And just had a chance to talk
about Cameron Hebig and like how phenomenally he is doing
this season and how he has grown and the amount
of time and focus that he is willing to devote

(28:44):
to being the absolute best player that he can be,
and also also being able to be on the Pogo
Yamer line, like just and how well they seem to
be playing together. Just that that vibe that they have
that Chemist Street is just next level where they're all
just so productive and they're just making things happen. Yes,

(29:09):
so very excited Forget. I actually had talked to him,
I think the day that it got announced, and I
asked him immediately like is your family coming, because I
know he's a big family guy, and he was like,
we're working on it. So I was so happy to
hear today that they're coming and that that everybody's coming.
And yeah, you can see I think you can see
it in his eyes and in his face. Like, first

(29:32):
of all, he's just a genuine person. I don't feel
like there's a lot of guile when you're talking to him.
You know, like what you see is what you get
with Cameron. Hebig, and he is a very very genuine
human being. And so yeah, to see him get this,
it is something that he deserves, It something that he's
worked hard for. And I'm not surprised that he was

(29:55):
surprised that he got that call, not at all. I'm
sure it wasn't on his raider. And anyway, even though
it should have been, I'm sure it was. Anybody else
in that situation would have been like, yeah, I was
expecting the call, you know, but not Cameron.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
We were we were talking. I mean, ever since Doan
was called up, there's just always been that question of
like who who's taking a spot? And you could argue
that the candidates were Uh, Egor Sokolov, Yamamoto, uh and
Josh done yea Our our Part and Agazino with Josh
Jones call up. Uh Agazino suffering the injury you know Yamamoto,

(30:31):
he's he's fantastic. But the HL, you know, they like
to send guys who are uh you know, more NHL
or more HL type players than not NHL. We know
Yamamoto is an NHL guy, uh you know, just spending
his time here with us at the moment. And then yeah,
I was honestly saying like, it's probably either gonna be
Socoof or or he Big, and Sokoof is very capable
of an All Star bid as well, but uh, I

(30:53):
think this one just feels a lot better because you know,
not saying he Bigs was never going to be an
All Star, but it's just something you weren't gonna put
on your your twenty four to twenty five a Bingo card,
right and for him to earn this has been huge.
I think it's a nice morale boost for the team
as well. I seen that's a, as we mentioned, a

(31:13):
bit of a slide right now, losing the last six
in a row. And you know, obviously he Big will
focus on the All Star Games right after our games
on Friday and Saturday, which is also tough. And luckily
that we are having this in Coachella Valley and here
in Tucson because a lot of teams, a lot of
players on those All Star rosters, they have to literally

(31:34):
finish their games on Saturday and then fly to Coachella
Valley the next day, in which the All Star Break
starts or the skills competition starts on Sunday. So at
least for Cameron he Big, he has like probably the
easiest route, you know, besides like Ontario and San Diego.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Valley.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Yeah, I know, Coachella. Yeah right, because you don't have
to go anywhere. That's a really good point. But besides,
it's those so cow teams. Even San Jose's a bit
further away, so I think, hey Big, because I think
San Jose might even be far farther away than from
Coachella Valley than Tucson is from Coachella Valley as well.
So yeah, non California wise, we're to close this team.

(32:16):
So it's a it's very suitable, especially that we're home.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
If there was any player that I could imagine would
be like, I don't want the time off, I would
rather be playing, it is Cameron Heabig, right, So where
everybody else is probably got vacation's plan, and you know,
they're just gonna enjoy that downtime. Not Cameron. Hebig like,

(32:41):
I'm I'm pretty sure that he's good to go on
with continuing what he's doing and keeping that momentum going
for himself, and then getting to San Jose the weekend
after the All Star break. Like to me, Cameron, he
been going to the All Star Game will be more
recharged having not had a break. Does that make sense?

Speaker 2 (33:03):
I didn't. As I mentioned before too, the Cam. I'm like,
I'm glad that you didn't have any like crazy plans
because you know, I don't know who plans what during
All Star breaks, but you know, it's only three days,
so it's not like you're gonna go back home all
the way to Canada. But you know, I've heard stories
in the past where guys weren't initially selected to the
All Star Game and then then they're asked to go

(33:26):
later on with you know, either call ups or injuries
or anything, and they're like, dude, I had a vacation plan.
I had to cancel it to Yeah, And it's in
the NHL too, where guys of guys who didn't think
they're gonna make it so they scheduled a break and
the NHL All Star breaks a lot longer than the
HL one, so guys actually genuinely get vacations and he
had to like cancel his vacation. I think it was

(33:47):
a player from Carolina. I think it might have been Sebastianaha.
I'm not sure, but yeah, so I'm glad. I'm also
glad he big didn't plan anything severely to where now
he has the time to go. And also it's just
a plus, right, I mean you went from you know,
maybe not seeing your family for the break to now
seeing them, and you know, I think having his family

(34:07):
in the crowd will be a big support. I didn't
even think about, you know, other other players who will
have a family in the crowds as well. So it's
it's just exciting because you know, as much as we
don't like the Firebirds and there our rivals, it's still
a fantastic market. You gotta give credit where credits due.
And I thought it was a great idea to, you know,
have the last year's All Star break at TEXTEU, which

(34:30):
is a new arena it's or new one of the
new arenas, and then you go down to Afrachure because
next year's it's in Rockford, and you know, I've never
been to Rockford. I don't know what their arena's like.
We're going later this year so i'll be able to
tell you. But I think guys are much preferring going
to Palm Springs for the time being than Rockford. But
of course different for us. We're here in the West

(34:51):
rather than in the East, so it's all different perspectives.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
It is different perspectives. Yeah, but I think it works
out perfectly and I'm yeah happy for he was happy
that his family gets to be with him. And an
interesting comment that he made and I wanted to dive
deeper into it but we didn't get a chance, is
that he gets to pick what skills competition? Yeah, he
gets to participate in. Yeah, well, next time we talked
to him, we have to ask it's.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Like which ones did he want?

Speaker 4 (35:18):
But like if I were to guess, like they said,
do they send like survey sheet, Like We're like, yeah,
pick that, Like who do you want your roommates?

Speaker 2 (35:26):
What I know from what I know, and I'm trying
to I don't exactly remember the skills competition, but they
have the they had the slap shot who has the
hardest slap shot, the speed like who's the fastest skater?
Just straight fast, and then there's the one of the
like you're dangling your way through a couple of obstacles.
I think it's just called like the d king or something.

(35:48):
They have the one where they put targets on the
net and have to shoot on it. I think there's
the breakaway competition. Uh so that's one too that the
goalies are more involved in. Yeah, I think goalies, and
I think like goalies are also in some too, like
for the net shooting and stuff. If I were to choose,

(36:08):
if I would have choose which ones I'd want to do,
I think I'd just probably go with the pinpoint shooting probably.
I feel like that'd be the most fun and challenging
because they put targets on the net. Yeah. I feel
like Cameron Heban might have chosen that one because his
shot has been like out of this world, as you know,
fourteen goals this season, and maybe the speed because Cameron
I don't know what it is, but he may just

(36:29):
he seems a lot faster this year obviously with the points.
But I think one of the reasons why he's playing
so well is, like you see him out there, Kim,
where there's a loose puck on the other side and
there's just maybe one player like slowly gliding to it.
You see Cameron hemanc just zooming in there. The guy's like,
oh gosh, there goes. There's heaving right there.

Speaker 4 (36:46):
That man's backcheck is out of control. It's insane. It's insane.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Match out for Cameron Hebig. He's coming for that puck, dude.

Speaker 4 (36:54):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. It's and he is
very very he is. I mentioned this last season about him.
He is somebody that I think younger players need to
watch on the ice when you're looking at forwards who
are doing everything right, you know, who are who have
put all the puzzle beases together and are out there

(37:16):
just grinding, grinding on every level.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
You know.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
Like you say, he's not coasting, like you don't see
Cameron he Big coast. So he is very fast, He's
got the jets. I would be very curious. I asked
Parker Pohor one time who the fastest guy on the
ice was and it wasn't Cameron, and I was surprised
that it wasn't him, But he said, uh, I want
to say he said. Ben McCartney, Okay, yeah, just we talked.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
About it in passing Benny, I would say, fastest guys
on the team, like just speed wise. Yeah, Ben McCartney,
he can fly. We know Yamamoto he's been all He
flies all over the place too. Cameron hebig. Of course
last year I thought it was John Leonard. He was
one of our more fast guys. Leonard was quick, you know,
gun through when he was with us. Could tell Josh
Done picked up some speed as well. Man, who else

(38:07):
is really quick out there? I'm trying to think those
are like the names at the top of my head
that are just like the quickest guy, guys who are
gonna like outrun anyone on.

Speaker 4 (38:16):
The team, you know, and uh just Jets absolutely Jets.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
Jets on their skates and yeah, it's it's and it's
crazy too. That's that's Cameron, Hebeg and Yamamoto on one
line that really compliment each other with awsome mcgansky. I
mean that line is one of those One of those
three players has been involved in seven of our last
seven goals. And though that's good, it's also bad because
the other lines haven't scored and it's just it's just

(38:40):
how it's been going. As Keibig said, you know, it's
just it's just a tough slide right now. We every
it's a whole team effort. Everyone needs to contribute. And
you know, as much as it's gonna be a really
tough series versus Ontario, they're on a they're one of
the best teams in the league. You know, it's just
another opportunity for us. And uh, you know it's good
to get some practice days. We mentioned earlier this season.

(39:00):
Take a members signing event tomorrow night, so you know
some the players will be able to get this see
all the fans, and yeah, it's it's gonna be fantastic.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
It is a sort it is a double edged sword
with that line in that they're making so many things happen,
but you know, you don't want to rely on just
one line to make to make all of the the
offense happen. I noticed over the weekend that that line

(39:30):
is getting a ton of ice time, and I think
they want it and I think they deserve it. But yeah, yeah,
the other guys, it'll all click into place. You know,
I know that we're there. I know it's been tough.
I know that everyone was incredibly frustrated after Saturday night.
You know, across the board, I think people were just

(39:50):
frustrated to have a lead and to lose it. It
doesn't make sense. You know, We're playing good hockey and
I don't know, just frustrating and it's difficult, and you
look for you know, you try and look for the
answers where you can find them, and then when that

(40:12):
doesn't work, you look somewhere else and try to figure
out what those answers are. I mean, we'll see. I
know that the boys got two days off this week.
They had Sunday and Monday off this week, which is
unheard of in the league to have two days off
back to back, and I'm really hoping that that was
good for their mental health and hoping that it was
good for their physical and emotional health. I see it

(40:34):
doing nothing but good things for them at this point.
So we'll see. We'll see what happens when Ontario gets
in here. And in Ontario on paper looks really good
right now, but as everybody says, this league, especially this division,
it is tough, and I don't think anybody knows that

(40:55):
better than us. So I have a lot of faith
in us this weekend.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
Yeah, it's just it's nothing else to do but just
to keep going. You know, I always say those terms,
We'll keep it going, and then someone said, no, let's
let's get it going again, you know, and I'm like, yeah,
that's that's a good point.

Speaker 4 (41:14):
You know.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
We as much as we keep pushing and and drugging along,
we we got to pick up the speed now. And
that's just how has to go this weekend versus the
Ontario rain. And it's also big for us to write
Kim because you know, with this six game scuffle, where
still hanging on barely now by the last place spot
of the HL specific Division race forty points Bakersfields a

(41:37):
forty points as well. Bakersfield is playing tomorrow night, so
that's gonna be a big game to watch, you know,
because if Bakersfield wins the game, they will be overtaking
the Roadrunners in their last place spots of the playoff spot.
I would say, not last place in the division, but again,
there's a whole other half to go. It's not not saying,

(41:59):
you know, we they win that game, we're done, but
it's something to definitely watch out for because you know,
when you start going more and more into the second
half of the season and you're you know, out of
a playoff spot or barely hanging on. You realized, you know,
what if we have like when we're at the ten
game left mark, it's gonna be a scrunch, you know,

(42:19):
and it's gonna just put my pressure on us.

Speaker 4 (42:22):
It is part of me wants to be like, Okay,
at least it's happening now and not at the end.
You know, at least it's happening. You know, we're in
pretty good shape for it to happen now, and then
you know, yeah, we don't want to scrunch at the end.
So yeah, rest, recover, figure it out from here, and

(42:47):
let's not do this. Let's not do this again, you know, like, yeah,
I think that nobody wants nobody wants this to see
this happen again or continue.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
So yeah, we'll just uh, we'll keep pushing four were
We'll keep it going, but again, still always the positives.
Cameron Hebig being assigned to the twenty four to twenty
five Ah, I'll all start catching up with him in
the show. If you missed it, go to Tucson roadrunds
dot com. Slash Happy Hour for the podcast version. Kim
and I will be recording our next show tomorrow night.

(43:18):
At this season take a member signing events for our
I guess we'll call it the All Star Breaks special
pre recordings, and we'll be trying to get to Maverick
Lamoru and Ryan McGregor for that show as well. And
I think it's going to be a great time. Kim,
any anything else before we close this off.

Speaker 4 (43:34):
You can't see me on the radio, but I'm motioning
to Johnny that I have one last thing I want
to say.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
That's thought about it?

Speaker 4 (43:40):
Yeah, yeah, what I thought about it because Cameron Hebig
asked me if I had one extra hour a day,
what I would do with it, and I said to Jim, Okay,
I changed my mind. It would be reading. If I
have one extra hour a day, I would definitely want
to ingest more of what I'm reading because I always
run out of time every day to be able to
read a little bit more. So I changed my mind.

(44:02):
I am pivoting away from the gym. The gym understands
that I want that I need to read, so yeah,
mine's the same. I would I would use some extra sleep,
wouldn't mind that I appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
Yeah, well, thanks again, great show. Thanks to Cameron Hebig
for stopping by. We'll see you tomorrow night if you're
listening live at the season take a Member event again.
If you missed this show, go to Tucson Roadruns dot
com slash Happy Air to listen to the podcast version.
And we'll see you on later this week at the
Tucson Arena for a huge matchup for the Roadrunners versus
the Rain. Before you all start break Fox Sports fourteen

(44:34):
fifty am, this has been Roadrunners happier. We will see
you later.
