season and see how that goes.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Right here on Tucson Sports Day yet, Fox Sports fourteen
fifty am.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Fox Sports fourteen fifty am. Our usual Tuesday night get together,
Roadrunners Happy Hour Jonathan Schaeffer alongside me as always, co
hosts Kim.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Coda, Robliz, Kim Hey, Johnny, How was a going? Good
to see you?
Speaker 5 (00:43):
Good to see you?
Speaker 4 (00:44):
What a series for the Roadrunners against the Abbots. For Canucks,
it was absolutely electric. Got two wins, saw an overtime
victory from Andrera Gazino, USA chance in the crowd of
the four nations face off.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
It was full of everything. Maverick lamorun Zuber getting in
their third spice of their careers.
Speaker 5 (01:05):
You saw a lot on the and MAXI did you
say Maxie?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
I said Zoobie Zey Zoobey Maxie crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
You you heard, you probably heard everything down where you
are as the PA announcer during the game. We're gonna
have Anya Buccie on the show too for the first
There's just so much happening as always, a very very
busy week coming up as well. We're going to the
Desert Sonora Museum coming tomorrow with some of the fellas.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
Yeah, taking the Voice out for a community to experience
a road runner in person.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
So it's it's a lot going on, but you know,
when we're home, got to take advantage of it because
U after this week, we're we're back on the road
again and it was an overall just a fantastic weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Kim. We are We're back, like we're back right. Yeah,
we're playing good hockey.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
We swept the Canucks in a series that felt like
a playoff atmosphere series that you just wanted to win,
considering everything that just kept happening in front of us
with all the pushes, the shoves as extra whistle activities.
You know, Maverick Lamru who got in some practice today
with Startini in the fighting after getting in his first
(02:17):
of his career, kind of fell hard on his fight
and you heard a lot right after.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
That, I did, Okay, So first of all, how what's
the high difference between Stuart's and mav Because because Mav
is a tall guy, and I want to say he's
got a couple of inches on Storts, but Storarts has
all that experience and all of that, uh, all of
that that fighting experience. Maverick in the box was incredibly feisty.
(02:47):
It was I literally had to cover. I had to
close my left ear to be able to make the
reads that I had, the peing announcements that happened because
he was screaming so so loudly at Kleimovitch. I think
it was is that Danilla Klimovich was was who he.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Went up again.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Yeah, they were the chirps. It wasn't even chirping. It
was full blown screaming at and it went on and on.
It went on long enough that I did all of
my reads, and then I took a snapchat of it
because I know they.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Were liked, did you see my snapchat? I'm like, no,
I wanted to see what I saw. Kim and I
thought the same thing. I'm like, oh my god, Kim
is hearing everything right now. Yeah, and it's funny and
we talk about it all the time. You know, these
guys off the ice are the coolest dudes ever, Like,
is probably one of the nicest guys you could ever
meet from a you know, just a human being standpoint,
(03:41):
But then on the ice, they're just so much different,
you know, Like and what about Andrera Gazino at the
end of the game.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Okay, so I did not have a good angle on
what happened after the goal. And also and then I
started to get busy writing everything that I needed to
say because I couldn't I couldn't write anything down until
until goal happened, right, So I missed it until I
caught up on socials and saw saw his post game
selly was essentially was essentially fighting.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
And the.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Heard the story on it.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
And we'll get some insight from Anyubucci too because he
was on the bench as well. But yeah, the story
pretty much was that guy Carlson is the one that
Agazino went after.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
Carlson.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Yeah, yeah, and he was just you know, he was
just giving it to us, like, you know, talking his talk.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
He stared the bench down after scoring the game time goal,
which is you don't do, Kim unless you're asking for trouble.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
You don't do that.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
And from what I heard, Agazino said, you know what
after he if I score a goal here and he's
on the ice, like I'm going after him. And what's
more suiting is he scores the ot winner and he's
right there, right next to and he goes after him.
But we'll get some perspective from Montana and Ubuci as well,
the player perspective. Yeah, because well what I saw Onybuci
(04:59):
was giving stick tabs to the Canucks when they left
the ice, So we'll have a lot to talk about.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
That was of those games.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Such a chippy game. I mean, you never know what
you're gonna get when you come in. Some games we
have and they're I don't want to say flawlessly executed,
but some some games we play are very textbook and
there's not a whole lot of fights. It's it's just hockey.
This was a super intense game and I feel like,
kind of towards the end of the weekend, Abbotsford started
(05:28):
playing the victim because they realized the momentum was not
on their side and so they were asking for calls.
They were acting like it was. It was kind of
a little bit of a soccer mentality out there if
when they were getting hit and also did that hit
on Nathan Smith was over against the visitor boards, like,
I can't remember who who got him? I think it
(05:50):
was on Saturday night. No, it was on Friday night
because when he came out Saturday, I think he was
in a fish bowl.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah, yeah, it's like who. The question was like, who
didn't get hit on this series? Right?
Speaker 4 (06:02):
It seemed that everyone was taking taking tumbles and the
way that we were delivering our hits too, Like there's
one point where mav Boom throws down a Knuck player
and Kevin cannot and Boom another one. And we saw
that one hit that really got things started as any
Bucie kind of slid into Nielsen.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
It wasn't that it didn't look bad. It looked bad, sorry, but.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
It wasn't as bad because Nielsen just kind of lost
his balance and tumbled. Then his helmet fell off and
that's why that happened too. But Kim, this all kind
of started back in October. We were in Abbotsford playing
in the first games against him this season, and Anybuci
delivered a hard hit against a Kanucks rookie. I believe
it was Chased Waters. That's what really kind of got
this like little rivalry going. And it wasn't a dirty
(06:45):
hit looking at the replay, it was just.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
A was that the one right in front of the goal?
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah, it was just kind of like a wrong place,
wrong time.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
It wasn't Waters, but I can't remember who it was,
but yeah, yeah it was a rookie.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
That's all I know.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
I could go back to the tape, but it would
take me a little bit. But anyways, that's kind of
got it going. And then also what got it going
in this series was the first game where Tolapilo made
a safe. He was way out of his crease to
do it because he's an aggressive goalie, and when goaltenders
are out of the blue paint, that's like fair game. Yes,
obviously you can't just ram into them, but you know
(07:16):
it's kind of like, if you're going to the crease
facing that was a Ford, you're gonna get hit. If
you're a goaltender coming out of your crease to make
a safe, you're gonna get stabbed at by sticks. And
we did that and then Abbotsford didn't like it, and
that's where it just kind of started rolling. And it's
funny because, yeah, though every Pacific Division game is like
as you know, rivalry, it by itself, you know it's
(07:37):
funny because it's it's Tucson and an Abbots for two
cities that are like way opposite of each other. Way
maybe maybe that's why you know like it. It's just
two opposite cities. And I think maybe the four nations
face off recently happening to tensions a little bit, which
is funny because more of our team is Canadian and
than any other, like every other hockey team in every league.
(07:59):
So I think that was the most funny part, especially
when Zuber got in a fight and then USA chance
rain him after and that was Zuber's first fight ever
as as an American Hockey League player. I don't know
if he's gotten in any scraps in Europe, but when
you have a guy like Zuber and mav getting into it,
that's when you knew it was that kind of series.
It was a playoff like Atmosphere series. We're only five
(08:20):
points now behind the Canucks and the Barracuda and three
points ahead of the Condor, so Tucson is in the
driver's seat right now, back in it.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
We were.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
We took a pit stop for a little bit, had
to get some gas, you know, how to fill her up.
Now we're back on it and we're we're getting on
the free right right now, we're getting on the freeway,
getting back up the speed and then trying to get
into the flow of traffic.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
I like, I like that analogy. That's a great analogy.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
I should say that to Steve. No, I'm gonna use
that for Steve with the pre games.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Okay, do that?
Speaker 2 (08:45):
You love that?
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Do that?
Speaker 5 (08:46):
I did when I talked to Egor. I talked to
Egor really quickly after the game on Friday night, and
he did talk about really using the time on the
road to find the team's identity and feeling good about
who they are right now. And maybe, you know, we
had to I think we had to go through it.
I think we really had to go through it to
(09:06):
get to where we are right now. You know, and
I've said this a million times, it's what's meant to
happen is going to happen. And I think that more
and more we're seeing good things as you know, you
just kind of embrace, you know, hey, we're at where
we're supposed to be. Like you said, we're back on
(09:27):
the freeway and and we're going to be in the
fast lane here pretty soon, getting towards the end of
the season. But also in the fights, in the scrums
that happened on Saturday night, did you notice the two
Ratu brothers lock up with each other for a second?
Speaker 1 (09:42):
No?
Speaker 2 (09:43):
I did not, They did. And then.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
Atu was in the penalty box next to me, thank you,
And I heard the office official ask him what is
it like playing against your brother? And normally I can't hear,
but for some reason I could, and Autie said, I
actually really hate it. I wasn't expecting to feel a
(10:08):
little bit sad hearing that, but I was thinking about
it if if if I hadn't if my yeah, if my,
if I was the older brother, or if I was
the older sibling coming into this, I would definitely be like, yeah,
let's go like a tou. But then the younger sibling,
you know, like that's that's different. But the funny part
is when I was leaving that night, I saw a
(10:30):
to hanging out in the parking lot waiting for Aku.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yeah, so this is also the last that was the
last game of the season series. It's over.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Yeah, we win the season series and we uh won't
guarantee not guarantee the play Abbotsford in any first round,
at least of the playoffs because currently at the moment, Abbotsford,
San Jose, and Tucson are the teams that would be
on the road for the first round. Ontario has the
first seed because they've been on a crazy run right now,
so at the moment, would even face Abbotsford in the
(11:01):
first round. Of course, anything's bound to happen. But Kim,
I think that's what's also nice about, you know, maybe
being the lower seed going into the playoffs. Right last season,
we know what happened. Calgary comes in wins two games,
and I think the best of three series puts so
much pressure on the higher seed, right because it's like, oh,
you think it does have the home crowd just two games,
(11:21):
but then when you're on the road, you think just
two games as well. And I think that helps any team.
I mean the year two years ago when we were
the seventh seed going up against Coachella Valley, we were
one went away from beating them, and then they went
all the.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Way to the Cup.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
Right, Yeah, that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
We saw what happened last year. Calgary did make it
to the second round. They won some games against Coachella
Valley but ultimately lost. So you know, I'm not saying
I don't want a home series to start. That'd be awesome,
But if it doesn't happen, that's okay, because you know,
all you have to do is, as they say, have
the power of friendship, go into any city and say,
all right, guys. All it takes is is two games
(11:58):
and we're onto the next round. Two wins in the
three games. So to get for Tucson to just get
these two game wins series, like if you can argue that,
you know, if that was a playoff series, we'd we'd
be advancing on against Abbotsford.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
And it is it is as much as hockey is
a physical game, so much of it is mental. And
like you said, when Carlson got that got that tying
goal and then looked down, looked at our bench that yeah,
you definitely that is a mental mind game that he
(12:31):
was trying to play with our team and then they didn't. Yeah,
they were not about it. And I think that I
think that in those situations, you when you do something
like that it's either one one of two ways. You
either stare that team down and and they buckle, or
you stare that team down and they come back hard,
which is what happened. And I think that Amitsford was
interesting because on on paper and black and white, the
(12:57):
series should not have turned out the way that it did,
and maybe that was their expectation to I think going
into Rockford is going to be really, really interesting. This
is a team that we don't see.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
This is only six times ever.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
It's crazy. Yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Last time we played them twenty two years.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
But we have Sammy Walker and he's seen them a
million times and he he isn't going to be ok
in the hole on this.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
I didn't even think about that. That's a really good point. Yeah,
so Walker is gonna be our our pre pre scout
guy and yeah, for sure. Yeah, it's always fun to
play any different team. I'm excited to meet their broadcaster,
Dani Ray. He is also a first time play by
player in the HL, so excited to meet him. He
replaced the guy who is now the play by play
broadcaster for the Utah Hockey Club. Oh okay, a little
(13:45):
bit of a little bit of a connection. Yeah, excited
to meet him. They do a TV setup, so they're
gonna be broadcasting an away game. TV wise, I don't know.
I don't know what he's bringing with him, but we've
already talked about the setup. We're gonna get it done,
or at least tried to because we have to kind
of acclimate our rena a little bit. But yeah, it's
gonna be fun just to face off a team we
(14:05):
haven't face. I gotta get some names down because I'm
so used to me specific division guys. Yes, it's cement
in my head after a while, but to play a
team like Rockford first time ever, it's like, Okay, I
at least need to study these names or I'm not
gonna know anybody. Yeah, and it's a it's gonna be
a very interesting series coming up. And you just you're
feeling like the team is good. Practice went awesome today.
(14:25):
Practice some some overtime three on three shootout. So Curtis
Dobas absolutely undressed. Matthew w Walt had practice today. It
was awesome, Like, you know, just just vibes are good
and that's uh, that's all you can ask for it, especially, uh,
after an eight game slide and Kim like, we've been
through everything this season and we have twenty two games left.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Oh my gosh, twenty two games.
Speaker 5 (14:47):
Ben McCartney, twenty yeah, Ben McCartney, twenty two. Sorry, Taylor Swift,
Ben McCartney, you're twenty two.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Yeah, I guess that possibly twenty two games left on
the doc for the road Runners.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
It'll and I'm always interested when we get these teams
that come from very frozen places and it's eighty four
degrees shocked, but oh my gosh, yeah, it's so nice.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
And I'm sure they they're coming here a few days
early just because why not. And even we go to
Rockford later this season, so it'll be it'll be April.
It's our last road trip, so it'll.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Be a little nicer, a little nicer, I mean, better
than January or February. I would still pack a lot
of us. Yeah, but it's it's still gonna be fine.
It's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
So now joining us our very special guest of the week, Montana,
on your Bucci Montana, how's it going, man.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
It's going good.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Yeah, good to have you on the show. It's been
a while since we talked to you. But nice to
see you again. And what a series that was against Sabatthurd.
It felt like a very playoff like atmosphere series. We
got the final laugh with that awesome hit at the
end by Agazino, And I just got to ask you,
what was your perspective of all that saw you giving
them stick taps as they left the ice as well.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Yeah, you know, it was fine. We we needed these points.
You know, division's really tight, so it was nice to
get the win, and it's nice to have a go back.
He just brings so much energy back to our lineup,
so it's it's nice to have him.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Yeah, And we're slowly, maturely just starting to kind of
find our groove again. You know, we had that rough
stretch back in January before the All Star break, but
then we went on the seven game Gems show trips,
started to see the wins come together again, and now
we're it feels like we're right there, right, We're really
close to finding our groove, and you know, we have
like two games upcoming against Rockford. Just you know, what's
(16:32):
it been like for the team to kind of go
through that entire process, that adversity and how does it
help us.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Grow moving forward.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah, I think every team goes through something like this
throughout the year, So I think, yeah, it's just not
letting it get away from us and and just staying
together and pushing through. And I think that's what we've done,
and we've grown together. And yeah, so I think we're
heading in the right direction.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Second season here in Tucson. How's it been going in
your second year here? You know, anything that you've worked
on from last season that you've applied to this year
where you living at now, Like, just how's it been
all going for you?
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Yeah, I've liked it. It's been really nice. I've just
you know, I've I think I've developed just my puck touches,
what I've tried to hammer on, you know what i mean,
just making those little plays, small area plays, and I
think coming out of breakouts and stuff like that. It's
it's been a lot better. And obviously bringing my physical
presence and into the lineup and yeah, just playing hard.
And yeah, I just moved from last year. I'm at
(17:28):
Inkintata now, so it's been really nice and nice pool
there and you can't beat this weather.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
So yeah, we're just talking about that. How good the
weather is right now.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
It makes it.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
It's because the Rockford guys are coming and be like,
oh my gosh, that's what these guys get in the winters,
like this is awesome.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Oh for sure. No, it's been great.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
So your birthday's coming up. So if we don't get
a chance to talk to you before your birthday on
March eighth, which I'm sure all the fans already know about,
happy Birthday, the Big two five, which means Johnny knows this.
When you turn twenty five, your prefrontal cortex is fully
DepEd now, so like you're like a fully functioning adult
on Marching. Yeah, exactly. Okay, So speaking of birthday and candles,
(18:08):
this is my segue. If you were a scented candle,
what would your scent be?
Speaker 3 (18:12):
I was a scented candle. Mm hmm, I don't know
what it would be. It'd be like, uh, huh, do
you want me to circle back? Yeah, think about that
one maybe.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
Oh that's super supera.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
I also got to ask your aunt came to the games.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
She did?
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Did she like him? Did she enjoy it? Awesome games?
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Yeah? I know she had a blast. Yeah, it was
really fun. And then just went out for dinner after,
And yeah, I was excited to see her come out
here and and travel all the way from Winnipeg. So
it was nice to have her. That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah, glad you got to see some fun ones.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Exactly.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
I get some wins for If you were snowed into
a cabin for a week with anybody on the team,
who would you want it to be?
Speaker 3 (18:59):
Probably my room, Zoobie.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
I know you were going to say that, No, anybody
with Zoobie. Yeah, pick somebody else, somebody else Zoobie's too easy,
would go with you?
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Why is Zoobie too easy?
Speaker 5 (19:12):
Because their best?
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (19:14):
But uh who would I go with? Probably Bear? Yeah,
Bear's funny. We killed a lot of time, I think, Yeah, yeah,
probably Bear board games? And what I played board games?
You're just joking around, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
And then also he seems like somebody who would give
you your space when you needed it.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Yeah, not Zoobie, though, I feel like he would just
keep bothering you.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
I'm so happy to be alive. I love his energy.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
How did you like his first tilt? That was his
first one as a roadrunner.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
I don't know if the first fight ever, I think.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Like ever, like has he ever gone one in Europe?
Do you know?
Speaker 3 (19:51):
No? He hasn't.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Wow, that's crazy. That's how that game was. Yeah, it
was it was grading him. How was it for for you?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
I thought it was good. You got the takedown, he
got to win first fight. That's all you can ask for, right,
And he's he doesn't really know what he's doing there,
But I think he had himself well. And you know
what I think, I think everyone just fed off of
that energy, you know what I mean. I wanted to
join him in the box. That's why he went in there.
Later on they were having Yeah, they were having fun
in the box. I gotta get it.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
He was so quiet when he's in the box that
I felt like he was just processing everything. Like he
was just kind of sitting there. He didn't look around,
He wasn't like cleaning stuff off he was. He was
like I feel like he was just like fully processing
what just happened, unlike Maverick, who went totally nuts, like insane,
strait jacket in the box the entire time that.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Yeah, he slipped, he wanted he wanted to, he wanted
to get another one. He wanted to get his back.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
He really did.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
He did but it happens.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
I saw him at Storts today practicing a little bit practice,
So I mean maybe maybe this weekend we see MAV
get into it again to kind of redeem himself.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Yeah, I don't know. I think he's good. I think
he knows he could take a bunch of guys like
he's he's a big guy. So yeah, I know it
was it was really fun to weekend. I think we
were playing hard and it did feel like that playoff
kind of type game. So yeah, I think if you
just keep building on that, keep that same energy and
you know what, the energy you could just feel inside
the ink this past weekend. There's a lot of fans
and it was really fun to play.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Yeah, and I know we control what we can control, right,
But is there any scoreboard watching within the locker room
just seeing like, hey, you know, after that series, we're
only now five within both the Canucks and the Barracuna,
And you know, as much as we're playing great, Bigger
still is only three points behind us.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Exactly.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
You know, obviously we focus on what we want to
need to focus on, but yeah, is there just any
scoreboard watching just to you know, make sure, like hey,
got to get these points down.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
And keep moving forward.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Yeah, I think all the points are pretty crucial for
us right now, and we do see the division, but
I don't think we we look too far ahead. I
think it's just one game at a time, and I
think that's the best way to do it.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
So I don't know if we've talked about this before.
I played rugby when I was in college for a
couple of years, and in I didn't know this about
rugby until I started playing. Is that they teach you
how to get hit so that you don't hurt yourself.
They teach you how to fall on the ground a lot.
That's like the entire practices where you're just falling so
that you don't hurt yourself. At what point in you
(22:16):
coming up through hockey do you learn about fighting? You know,
when does that happen? And because it's an inevitability. And
I don't know if you know this also, but I
have a sixteen year old son, Yeah, and he took
a weird hit a couple of weeks ago, and like
literally thought it was going to be a fight and
it ended up not being. But my heart was in
my throat when that happened. It was Yeah, it was interesting.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
It was I think it's as soon as you kind
of take the cage off. If you have your cage off, yeah,
it's always that risk, right, Like if you're fighting with
a cage on, it's you don't really feel anything and whatever.
It's just like you don't really have to be able
to protect yourself. But I think once you have that
cage off and the visor, so I think probably when
I was like, I guess fifteen sixteen and the dub
(22:58):
when I first started, So I think, yeah, since then,
you just learned to protect yourself. You got coaches there
that kind of help you out and look out for
you that that's done it before and yeah, and kind
of teach you the ways and other older players that
that just help you how to do it. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:15):
I got more, so many more questions. Are you ready?
Do you watch TV? Do you watch Netflix? Are you
TV guys?
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Yeah? I watched movies?
Speaker 5 (23:20):
Do you watch movies? Did you watch Squid Games at all?
Speaker 3 (23:24):
The second season?
Speaker 5 (23:25):
Either one?
Speaker 3 (23:25):
I watched the first season?
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Yeah, so you know, so you know squid game yep. Okay,
So if you were in squid Game, how long do
you think you would last?
Speaker 3 (23:34):
How long would I think I would last. I think
I think you got to go into it thinking you're
gonna win, like I think you yeah win the yeah
at all. No, I didn't do that. If you get
a chance, I didn't see good.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Yeah it's on Prime. It starts with a thousand people.
It's very very similar. But they're always dying, yeah, killing anybody,
so yeah, less risk. But but I think it was
like five million dollars was the prize at the end.
So it was, and then it actually changed. I don't
want to give it away, but it changes at one point.
So yeah, you gotta get a chance. It's very squid game.
(24:10):
Ask who do you think? Who do you think is
our biggest revelry right now? Or is it just the
entire Pacific division?
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Pacific? Yeah, who's our biggest rival is going to be?
It's got to be. I know there's a couple I
think for me personally it probably yeah, they do, but
I don't know. I don't like losing them, but they.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
Come out of their seats to give you high for sure,
for sure.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
But I don't like losing to them personally. But but obviously, yeah,
there's like Calgary too from last year. So actually I
think we really gotta beat those guys and win those games.
Those are crucial for us. And and I think, uh yeah,
I think we we like beating every team. I think
the whole divisions. We're ready to go, like it's a
rivalry game.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
So okay, if you could only listen to one song
for the rest of the year, what would it be?
Speaker 3 (25:03):
One song?
Speaker 5 (25:04):
One song? That's it, that's all. It's coming on the
radio or in the game.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
It's called American Money, okay, by who. I don't even know.
I don't even know. It's a good song. It's a
good song.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
I heard of it. No I have not American Money.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Okay, what's the what's the like, what's the vibe of
the Its just it's just like you're sitting outside in
the sun, kind of kind of vibe by Bourns.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
I mean, you can listen to that out here.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
So yeah, yeah, okay, I want to now, I want
to listen to it.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
But check it out.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Put it aside for a second, Kendrick Lamar or Drake.
But yeah, is that like parly Canadian point of view?
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Oh yeah, right?
Speaker 5 (25:47):
If I was to call your mom right now and
ask her to describe fifteen year old Montana. What would
she say about you, fifteen.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Year old Montana? Yeah, competitive, Yeah, I don't know, fifteen
year old Montana. I probably hard headed really, you.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Know, stinky too, I imagine, yeah, teenage teenage boy.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Yeah, it's just just hard headed and just didn't want
to listen.
Speaker 5 (26:13):
But okay. And then when we talked to Maddy, which
was a while ago, but he talked about him and
Morsey are painting when I don't know if they're still
doing this because we talked to him a while ago,
but that's like their office activity to kind of decompress,
is their painting?
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Oh really?
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (26:30):
Did you know that?
Speaker 3 (26:31):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
No, yeah, that's that's what he said. I have so
many questions and I want to see the art. But
do you have a decompress mechanism for yourself something like that?
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Yeah? For sure, after games, your your your mind's kind
of racing and and you know what I mean, it's
hard to fall asleep. Yeah, because your adrenaline is running
after after the game, you know, you're you're so hyped up.
Speaker 5 (26:51):
Are you playing it back to yourself?
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Yeah, all the time. I watched my videos like right
after the game too. If we watch the game, you
know what I mean, stuff like that. Yeah, and then
I just play Caitan with my girlfriend and stuff. Oh really, yeah,
I love I love cat.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
That's awesome.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Play a bunch of games.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
What's your girlfriend's name?
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Abigail?
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Abigail? And how long have you guys been together?
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Eight months?
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (27:12):
Okay, yeah, that is awesome. She she's fantastic. Have you
met her, Johnny.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Don't? Yeah, she lives here, so you and Zuber and
her all live together?
Speaker 3 (27:22):
No, Zubi, I love it. I love a zoobie on
the road like that. He's my roadroommate. I am my
own place.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
Yeah, got it makes sense, Okay, just on the road way.
He's just tagging along with you guys.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Lives with his girlfriend. He's got a girlfriend too. It's just.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
I want to hear how you think when you're in
the starting lineup? How you think I should say your
name when I'm saying number seventy nine on defense?
Speaker 3 (27:51):
How you should say it? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (27:52):
Like yeah, because you know how like I say Matthew Will,
everybody gets like a little bit of spice he how
do I say he? Big?
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Big?
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Yeah? Maybe like on a boo chie?
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Yeah, I like that.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
Do you want to give us your best please, welcome
to the ice. You were two Son road Runners?
Speaker 3 (28:17):
What do you like? Just say it? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (28:19):
Can you hear it?
Speaker 3 (28:20):
What? What?
Speaker 1 (28:20):
What?
Speaker 5 (28:21):
Or in the order of boys coming out, because I
know it's a very specific order when you all come out.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Of the tune not always, not always, it changes pretty
pretty often, I think, does it? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (28:30):
Well, I noticed that if Maddie comes out first, Hunters
right behind him, if Kevin is not in the lineup,
Benny's last coming off coming off the ice.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
But yeah, maybe it's like first and last, first and last,
And it was kind of like, whatever is it a mess?
Is that where you are are?
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (28:45):
I just jump in the middle whenever, whenever I get
done in the locker room, I'm jumping.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
Oh okay, yeah, yeah. If I Hunter had told me
at one point, because I say Tucson road Runners and
I say that Tucson for a really long time, that
I wait until he hits either the blue line or
the red line, and then I stopped saying it. So
he had a whole problem at the beginning of the
season remembering his net guard. So he wasn't the second
person behind Maddie coming out of the ice. It was Egor,
(29:11):
and Igor does not care when he comes on the
ICs just hanging out. He's just like very slowly.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Yeah, so I had to.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
Yeah, I come up with some new mechanisms for myself
to do that. But you don't want to give us
your best Tucson Roadrunners.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Welcome to the ice, your Tucson road Runners.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
That's good.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
I love that. Yeah, that's awesome. That was really good.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
One more, one more more.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
Okay, So it's very squid game. Ask but if there
was a zombie apocalypse, Yeah, how long are you lasting?
Speaker 3 (29:46):
And I need to how many? How many days or
years or what do you think of? Like how long?
Speaker 5 (29:51):
What do you think you got? Like like this is
Walking Dead? How many epis are you getting into the season?
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Yeah, it depends how fast it spreads and like how
it's spread. I think if it's viral or if it's
like you have to get bitten or whatever it is.
But I think I could last probably like a couple
of years.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
I feel like you could too. I feel like you. Yeah,
if you pin drop me, i'd appreciate it. So I'm
just gonna hang out with you because like I feel
like you got it luck or heaves. Who's just gonna
hide out in the condition.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Build a cabin or something. Yeah, it's kind of just
mosy on in there. Yeah, I appreciate.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
Yeah, he's will be like sitting by a book by
a fire, reading book, just like chilling, waiting for things
to clear out.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
You chilling well, Montana, thanks so much for joining us again, man,
always appreciate it. Great job over last weekend and uh
gluck it gets Rockford will be rooting for you and yeah,
just good luck and keep you going.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Yeah, thank you very much, thanks for having us.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Now joining us a very very special guest. He is
coming to the game this Friday at the Tucson Arena
and giving a pregame message of hope as well.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Kyle Peared. Kyle, Welcome to the show Man. Thanks for
coming on.
Speaker 6 (30:57):
Man, Thank you guys so much for having me. I'm
super stoked about this. You know, it's it's coming together well.
And if the viewers don't know, like the you know,
everyone coming in, they don't know what's going on. It's
just it's gonna be a really neat event. And I
love the Roadrunner's heart behind it. So thank you for
having me.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
Yeah, of course, man, and you're actually a podcaster yourself,
so you you you got the equipment, you got the experience.
But yeah, just tell tell the audience a bit about
yourself and uh, just kind of your journey of you know,
to where you are now today.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
Okay, yeah, sure. So I run a it's called a
parachurch ministry. Basically para just means lift up. So I'm
not a church. I don't run a church, but I
run a ministry that supports the local church. And the
goal and concept is it's called Once Lost Ministries. Myself,
my wife, and a friend of ours, Flynn, run the ministry.
(31:51):
And what we do is encourage people to have answers
with a reasonable defense of what Christian's beliefs are. A
lot of the Bible talks about pain and suffering that
when we walk down the street, there's a lot of
things that happen in this world and a lot of
people have questions and the Christians have answers because we
default to the Bible. So I know that sounds religious
(32:13):
coming off right into this conversation, and some people may
disagree with that, but that's the greatest thing is like
people need to talk. We live in a culture today
where people don't like to have conversations and it's okay
to ask questions.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Like it really is.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
And so that's kind of what we do is we
prepare Christians to have answers. We support a lot of
local church. But yeah, so a little bit background behind
with me is, you know, I'll save us time. But
essentially I hit rock bottom in life and God was
so good to pull me out of it, not to
(32:46):
promise me prosperity and riches, but to just really show
me that He is faithful when I was faithless and
when I you know, when I hit rock bottom. That's
what this message is going to be. I'm just teeing
it up a little bit. It's a message of hope,
it really is, and I think everyone can affiliate with that,
(33:09):
that that word hope. You know, with politics being really
divisive these days, and and even in sports, you know
a lot of people are just really struggling with where
do I fit in life? Where's my hope? What do
I what do I have motivation to do? And and
you know there's lots of different grinds we struggle with.
So I think people need hope and that's my desires
(33:33):
to share what hope is.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
And uh, yeah, that's awesome. I'm really happy that you're
in a good spot now. And obviously this is a
very hockey uh you know, Stricken podcast. We just talk
about hockey a lot. We have guests done every week.
But maybe as a hockey player, what could they use
you know, in faith and in family, you know when
(33:57):
they hit hard times in their careers in personal life? Yeah,
you know.
Speaker 6 (34:02):
So I'm born and raised in Seattle. A lot of
the listeners I saw some people comment on Facebook. One
person had had commented if I was related to Neil
Peer and no, unfortunately I'm not related to Neil Peart,
the drummer of Rush. Well he's no longer alive. But
so but I got a lot of history in Seattle, right,
And so I was born and raised around hockey. You know,
(34:24):
I have fallen off the bandwagon just with you know,
priorities in life. I've got five beautiful girls and a
wonderful wife, So I don't get to spend a lot
of time in sports. But I do love hockey because
it really does encourage, you know, perseverance, endurance, teamwork. There's
a lot of things that you can tie together with
(34:45):
the message of hope and and not to be corny
or anything. It's just, you know, there's a reason why
people like sports, and it's it's to step away from
the grind of the daily life, you know. And not
everyone gets to be a rock star hockey player, but
you want to go there and support your team, so
you're part of a community. And and that's exactly what's
nit in our nature. I mean, we as human beings,
(35:06):
we we want to be associated to a group that
we have like mindedness. So yeah, I love the Roadrunners
and I love the encouragement behind it to bring Tucson together.
It's it really is a divided city right now, and
we need to encourage people to come together.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
Kyle, did you go to Pacific Lutheran University?
Speaker 3 (35:26):
I did not, that's not you.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (35:28):
Did you play any sports before?
Speaker 5 (35:31):
I wasn't hiding.
Speaker 6 (35:32):
Yeah, wrestler growing up?
Speaker 3 (35:35):
Okay, Yeah, but I was.
Speaker 6 (35:38):
I was a Thunderbirds fan growing up, so Seattle Thunderbirds.
They're still playing up in the in the pack Northwest.
So I went to a lot of local games and
stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
Okay, gotcha.
Speaker 7 (35:49):
And then your wife, who works at the Port of Tucson.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
Also isn't to be part of our Women in Business
panel that's happening before the game on Friday night, right
to tell us a little bit about her.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
Yes, man, I'm so glad you brought that up, because
she's way better at what she does than what I do. Okay,
if you had her on, she's a much better guess
than me. She's way prettier, and she's just really good
at articulating where Tucson's at. So I encourage all the
listeners to come to that event. It is March first,
(36:22):
there's gonna be a women in businessman I'm looking over
just because I have the pamphlet here, But her name
is Eli Peart, and she's the COO of Port of Tucson,
and she just you know, it's not about the thing
that I love about her is she can bring everyone
together and really articulate the problem. So if you have
(36:42):
questions about how to work hard and get into business environments,
how to come alongside people that you disagree with, because
guess what, we all disagree.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
At some point.
Speaker 6 (36:54):
You know, even my wife and I have disagreements. So
to claim that we don't have disagreements as foolish. But man,
there this is a really cool board. I'm glad you
guys are doing that, so definitely get behind that.
Speaker 5 (37:07):
Yeah, I'm excited. Actually, I don't know if we'll get
a chance to go up there and see it because
I think I have to be on the ice at
that time. But just the women that are going to
be participating in that are absolutely fantastic. When I saw
the connection that your wife is going to be part
of that, I can't even imagine being in charge of
any sort of operations having to do with the port
(37:28):
of two. So number one, I didn't know that we
had like a port of two, so I had to
google it. So yeah, it was really really interesting. I
can't even imagine how hectic and chaotic her life must
be and how much she must actually need, you know,
kind of the faith and like who you are to be,
you know kind of I'm sure somebody who grounds her
(37:51):
at home and you know, keeps, keeps, you know, everything.
Speaker 7 (37:55):
Good with you said five kids?
Speaker 6 (37:57):
Yeah, we have five girls.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
It's a lot.
Speaker 7 (37:59):
Oh god, that's a lot.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
Yeah, that'll do. That'll do that to you.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
I embraced it.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
That will absolutely do that to you. I can't even.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
She is the aside from Christ. She is the rock
of our family. I mean she ties everything together. She's
such a hard worker. And you want to talk about perseverance,
I mean that that woman is a hard worker and
she's she gives all her due diligence. She knows how
to push through and treat everyone as equals, so she
(38:30):
doesn't demand. You know, the cool thing that I think
a lot of people associate with women in business and
these panels, there's again there's a lot of divisiveness of
I don't even want to go there because women, you know,
are talking or there's just a lot of stigmas tied
to those things on both sides of the fence. But
(38:50):
she's so good at just like getting past that, Like
let's get through just we are human beings that need
to learn how to work together, to work hard, have
good ethics, and get behind one another and actually accomplish
our objectives and have solutions. So you're gonna love that.
Definitely try and make that if you can.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
Yeah, And going back to the community of Tucson. I
I've only lived here for two years, but I still
feel like it's a it's a growing community, right, you know,
it's still things being built it's it's slowly, maturely getting there.
And you talked about just the importance of you know,
bringing everybody together and just you know, how how do
you try to do that on a day to day basis.
(39:33):
We kind of touched on that a little bit because
we try to do the same thing from our end.
You know, we have players going out to community events,
you know, to get people to know us, but we
also want people to know we want to give back
to them. So yeah, I guess that kind of gives
my question like how do you give back to the
Tucson community.
Speaker 6 (39:50):
Yeah, So, I mean I'm I'm very much involved with
tons of different things. I don't even know how I
have a clock because I feel like I'm missing time
all all the time. But yeah, I I help a
lot at our local church, so we do a lot
of things. I attend the Journey Church which is on
Swan And River, and I run a podcast there as well.
The things that I do, I mean talking out loud
(40:13):
like these are just conversations to get people stimulated, but
really does hit you know, rubber meets the road when
we get out there and we talk to people. We
need to encourage people that there we really are image
bearers of God. I think a lot of people today
live in a society where everything's subjective and it's ultimately
hurting them. They're like, we live in a Tucson's awesome, Okay,
(40:35):
I want to get past what hours going real quick.
Tucson is awesome because it acts like a metropolis, but
we're a small town. Like we think we're big, but
we're really not. I run into people all the time
that I know, and I'm sure you do the same thing,
you know, So we need to get past this idea
that you know, we're just living our daily lives. We
(40:55):
are created to commune with other people. We're not supposed
to go live in a bedroom and never talk and
you know, be a part of our own lives. We
need to be integrated, and so that's what we're doing.
I'm trying to go out on the street and talk
to people. We our family personally. We do a lot
of humanitarian efforts and stuff. We're connected with Gospel Rescue
(41:20):
Mission and stuff like that. So there's that's the cool
thing about Tucson. There's a lot of different ministries and
nonprofits to do things here. I mean, I think Arizona
is probably top five, one of the biggest nonprofits in
the country. I think I remember looking at that. So
we need to connect and we need to talk, and
we need to get alongside one another, not just for
(41:41):
the purpose of unity, but truly again, I'm gonna tie
my message together Friday. There's a purpose of hope, and
it's not just to talk about hope. You know, I
hope I have pizza for dinner, but I don't know
for sure if I'm gonna have pizza. You know, there's
no guarantee in that. Yeah, But the hope I'm talking
about is an assurance. The Bible actually talks about hope
as an anchor, something that will secure you and give
(42:04):
you comfort amongst turmoil because we're not promised tomorrow. So
hope has a name, and I'm not going to take
too much further with that, but I encourage everyone to come.
Hope has a name, and I really want you guys
to know who that is.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
And I'm not gonna lie. When I wasn't living here yet,
I went to school in San Jose. I worked with
the team in San Jose. We play them, we used well,
we still do play them nowadays. Two, I didn't know
TWU soon existed until we played the road Runners in
San Jose. I'm like, where's Tucson. It's like team in
southern Arizona. And then I got this job and moved
out here, and I just you know, when you move
(42:39):
to a new city, you just don't know what to expect.
And I don't think it I really realized until like
this city as a growing community, until we start doing
stuff out in the community. I got to meet fans
and the people who have grown up here. And I
wanted to ask you as well, just because you said
you're from Seattle.
Speaker 6 (42:55):
Correct, yes, sir, yeh?
Speaker 2 (42:57):
What was your experience like moving here?
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Did you move?
Speaker 6 (43:00):
My goodness?
Speaker 2 (43:01):
And you know, what did you think was Tucson was
like when you moved here compared to now.
Speaker 6 (43:07):
I was fourteen years old when I moved here. It
was nineteen ninety nine, and Tucson looks a lot different
from there too. I don't you know where did you
say you were from?
Speaker 3 (43:16):
Jonathan?
Speaker 2 (43:18):
So, I'm from southern California, and then I went to
school in San Jose, Okay?
Speaker 3 (43:22):
And what about yourself, Kim.
Speaker 5 (43:24):
I'm from Tucson, Oh, Okay. I knew it was here.
Speaker 6 (43:27):
Yeah, you've seen the dramatic change. I've seen a change
from ninety nine, the different parts of town. But when
I moved here, you believe it or not. I mean,
Jonathan might not be able to know what I'm talking about,
but five Folk goes west. I legit was picturing tumbleweeds
and like a big giant dirt road. I didn't know
(43:48):
what to expect coming from Seattle. I mean, I'm from
a metropolit like a straight up downtown. I lived two
blocks from Tucson or the Seattle International Airport.
Speaker 7 (43:58):
So, oh, you're from Takoma.
Speaker 6 (44:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah fetack yeah. So yeah that was my
that was my hood and that's what I know. And
so coming here, my mom married a guy and my
stepdad he told us about Tucson and I just could
not picture what he was talking about. I was like,
you're crazy. Like he's called the Sworls, these green soldiers,
(44:20):
and I was like, man, those are the weirdest looking
things ever, Like what's a cactus?
Speaker 5 (44:25):
You know?
Speaker 6 (44:27):
So Tucson is so unique, though, I think God has
really changed my eyes. When you look at a fresh
rain on the desert. I work in telecom, that's my job.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
My day job.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
So I work for T Mobile and I run all
construction in Arizona. So we build cell towers and I've
shared a lot, you know, when I used to climb
on the towers. I've shared a lot of sunrises sitting
on a tower and watching the sunrise. And Tucson is
one of the most beautiful places when you see it
for what it is, the dimensions that it has, the
way the light hits these, the curve of the mountain.
(44:59):
I'm pointing out here because I have this beautiful view
of the mountains. Just gorgeous. I mean, it's totally different
than green mountains and snow. Like you assume this place
is just ugly, but it is gorgeous. It's such a
neat town.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
So I love it now, Yeah it is.
Speaker 4 (45:15):
You really can't beat the morning sun rises, and yeah,
the summers are hot, but then you get the cool
monsoons and kind of in the distance too.
Speaker 2 (45:22):
Sometimes.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
What I love about Tucson too, the dark. The darkness,
you know, like at night, go outside and look up
at the stars.
Speaker 6 (45:30):
Yeah, yeah, the stars are gorgeous.
Speaker 4 (45:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (45:34):
I I I think that everyone should experience a place
like this, because you do. Really, I've been to India
and I've been to Ireland, spend a lot of time
overseas with my wife. And you tell them about the
thunderstorms here. People have no idea what a lightning story like,
a monsoon, a dry thunderstorm. People have no concept of
(45:57):
what we're talking about. We're very unique here. It's a place,
it really is.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
Well, Kyle, thank you so much for joining us. Unfortunately
we're out of time, but we'll see you on Friday upcoming.
