Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up, everybody. This is Sea Mass here with another
rocking episode of Rocking with Sea Bass, and today I
want to do something a little different here. I'm going
to talk about my experience. I'm going to go see
the legendary band Wasp. Yeah. Yeah, these guys are crazy.
They were awesome. It was probably one of the best

(00:21):
live performances I have ever seen in my entire life.
And that's no exaggeration. Okay, maybe a little bit, because
I've seen a lot of good shows, and I've always
said that was probably one of the best shows I've
seen in my life. But it was one heck of
a show. Now, before I do talk all about that,
I just want to thank Mallory last week for being

(00:42):
on the show. It was really funny. It was a
great time, even though I got all the answers wrong
from the questions she answered about country music, but hey,
she didn't get anything right either on my rock questions.
I mean she said kiss twice in the def Leppard
last I thought it was funny, but it was still
fun So thank you Mallory for coming on the show.

(01:04):
I hope to see you on the show again sometime,
and I hope you guys enjoyed the Pat McManus interview.
It was a really good interview, probably one of my
favorite interviews I've done, and really cool guy. So yeah,
I hope you guys really enjoyed that one and maybe
discovered the band Mama's Boys, because they are a good
group to discover. I actually got one of their albums.

(01:24):
I actually forgot I had that album in my CD collection.
I was going through my album collection kind of reorganizing it, and
then I saw it. I was like, I totally forgot
I had this. Who went a new I have a
lot of albums that I forget I have. I don't
know about any of you guys that have album collections
and forget that you bought that you might have accidentally

(01:45):
had it twice. Yeah, I do that sometimes. Anyway. I
discovered WASS when I was like sixteen somewhere around there,
and I was working at King's Island at the time,
and I was still in high school. And remember I'm
I'm twenty seven. I'm about to be twenty eight very soon.

(02:05):
But anyway, I remember the radio station playing a lot
of eighty songs that I would rarely hear, if not
at all. Actually they decided to play the song wild Child,
and I did not know who the band was at
the time, but when I heard that guitar, oh Man,

(02:26):
I was instantly hook. I was like, Wow, who are
these guys? And Blackie's voice. I just stood there in
the car and was like, that guy has a voice. Wow.
And it was even more torture for me because I
was going to work and I had I didn't have
a phone that can play YouTube or anything like that.

(02:48):
I had one of those oult track bones where you
had to you know, download minutes so you can call
and text, so stupid. So I'm walking around King's Island
cleaning up the plays and dancing around like a moron
because that's what I did. And I had that song
stuck in my head and I was just like, I

(03:08):
got to listen to that song again. And finally, after
that day was over, I went home, went to bed,
and then I woke up and went to school and
during lunch, I went to the library and that's where
I go to the hangout and stuff. And I got
on the computer and made sure the library and wasn't

(03:28):
watching because she didn't like us really playing on YouTube
a lot, so I had to be very secretive about it.
Don't tell anybody, but anyway, I looked up the song
wild Child, saw the music video for the first time,
and wow, I did not know what to expect. Actually,
the guys had long hair like any other band, right,

(03:51):
but these guys were heavy. Blackie Lawless was dancing around
like a crazy guy. I mean, this man had a
lot of energy. And I just stood there like, Wow,
these guys are crazy and I love it. And then
after that, I was I watched some of their other
music videos like you know, I want to be somebody
blind in Texas, all those classics, including Manimal, which is

(04:13):
one of my favorite songs by the way, and I
just I just sat there and was like, I got
to see these guys. Now. Years later, I finally got
to see them, and it took me a while. I
led a lot of opportunity to slip by me, and
I was like, I cannot let this slip by me.

(04:35):
So I bought two meet and greet passes and two
regular tickets. Of course, I had my good friend Nikki
Starr from that Arena rock show come with me, because
you know, those guys did a lot for me, so
I decided to bring him along and have him and
I meet Blackie. Nick brought one of his friends over to,

(04:56):
you know, drive us there. We were going to Cleveland.
That's where the band was gonna performed. The name of
the theater was called the Angora Theater. I've never been
there before, but it's a nice place. Definitely checking out now.
When I got these tickets, I discovered recently that Blackie Lawless,
the singer, was having back issues, and I heard he
went through back surgery and all this stuff, and I

(05:19):
saw a few videos where he was like sitting down
and playing like the band around him was rocking it
out and everything, and he was just sitting there playing along.
And I'm like, well, okay, should still be worth it.
I mean, he still sounds great, so why not let's
do it. So but I'm still a little concerned though.
I was like, man, hope, I should have wanted to

(05:41):
go see these guys a long time ago, but yeah,
what can you do? But when I I discovered that
his mack surgery was very successful and now he was
standing up and he was just rocking it out and
he looked very healthy and good shape too, So I
was like, Okay, I guess this will be. I said, yes,
this will be great. We get to the theater just

(06:04):
in the nick of time because they were getting ready
to had the meet and greets. Go inside and we
got our passes. We went in there and then Blackie
Laws showed up. And have you ever seen one of
those movies where you see a light in the background
and you see at a person like walking towards you.
It felt like a man was walking out of the
light to greet us. It was. It was amazing. So

(06:28):
the person I was in charge of the meet and greet,
I think it was this guitar tech, had this line
up so we can get his autograph and I brought
two of my CDs. Nick brought two CDs. I got
my the first album autographed, and then I got the
I believe it was the live in the Raw album

(06:48):
that I got autografted, and it was great. I got
a little nervous because there was like this light where
it would shine where he could so you could see
and my shadow block his light and he was like, hey, dude,
you're blocking my life. I was like, oh, I'm so sorry.
I was. That showed how nervous I was about it,
and and I was like okay, okay, it's all right.

(07:11):
And then I got his picture, and what was even
funnier about the picture part was his face. His facial
expression never changed, Like my picture was there, it was great,
he looked great. But then the next person and his
face was still the same the entire way. Even Nick
was commenting on that, I was like, he never changed
his facial expressions. But then we gatthered it up a

(07:34):
little closer, like he said, hey, get a little closer, guys,
And he asked us to say, okay, y'all got like
one question, and if we have more time, I might
let you have an extra question. So it got to
me I asked the question of why he doesn't play
mannible anymore. I think he misunderstood the question. But that question,
I felt like wasn't really a good question. But the

(07:57):
question that Nick had was great. And his question was
has he ever had any spinal tap moments? And I
think Blackie again misunderstood the question because Nick was asking, like,
have any like dumb moments happened during a performance, like
you know in the movie Spinal Tap where they had

(08:18):
the stonehenge come down. It's like this big but then
all of a sudden, it gets closer and it's small
all of a sudden gives a friend to something like that.
But it turns out Blackie was sort of in Spinal Tap. Well.
I sat there and was like, he was. I don't
remember him being in Spinal Tap. I remember Paul Shortino

(08:41):
in the movie, but I don't remember him. Hang on
a second, So I looked up the video and it
turns out it was a promo video for Spinal Tap,
and it was showing like all the songs that the
Spinal Tap guys have done. And in the video you
see Blackie getting dragged around by Shrery Curry, the lead
singer of the Runaways, and black he looked so confused,

(09:04):
and I'm just sitting there like, this is hilarious. It's great.
If you've not heard anything about that video or never
seen it, please look it up. It's it's well worth it.
It really brings back memories. So yeah, I never said
I learned that I learned something new right there. I
even showed Nick the video and he was like, oh,
I guess he kind of was. I never knew. So

(09:27):
after that, it mean green ended and well worth the money.
It was a great experience. And Blackie is a very
cool dude. We went to go to the stage. We
were like super close to the stage to the point
where you can like, you know, fismatic guitar player or
a singer or whatever. It was really cool and blank
He's guitar tech was like giving us free picks and everything,

(09:50):
and that was a nice experience. And then Nicky went
to go buy some shirts. He actually bought two shirts
for me, a Wasp shirt obviously, and then an Armored
Saint shirt. The band Armored Saint was opening up for them,
and I gotta tell you, those guys are great. Like
John Bush's voice still sounds good after all these years.

(10:13):
I mean that guy could sing. But anyway, so yeah,
we were waiting and then Armored Saint played, and like
I said, they were great. John started just wailing out
and started playing all the classic Armored Saint songs, including
can You Deliver. What was even cooler was the way
they opened. They opened up with the Judas Priest song,

(10:35):
a song that you will rarely hear, delivering the goods,
and that was that was cool the way they did that.
The setup was great all in all, I mean, Armored
Saint killed it and I was like, man, man, that
was great. Now it's wastern and I'm thinking to myself,
like I don't know how this is gonna go, but okay,

(10:58):
here we go. The band comes out. The setup was nice,
like he had like the screen in the background playing
all the music videos because he was practically playing every
single song from the first album, and I'm like, oh
my gosh, this is awesome. Black he can still sing

(11:18):
for pretty well. I mean, it was just it was amazing.
And then what was even cooler was they were playing
Tormenttor and they were showing the scene where Blackie was
playing in this terrible eighties movie. It's called Dungeon Master.
I've never really seen it yet. I want to see it.
I heard her some you can buy some DVDs on eBay,

(11:42):
so I might do that like when I get a chance.
But it was so funny because Nick's never seen this before,
so I like tap it on him, like this is it.
This is the part where Blackie turned like gets hit
very cheesily by this spark. I don't know what it was,
but he Nick's laughing the entire time. He was just

(12:04):
like what. And so after that music video and all
those songs, they lead the set, and I'm thinking like, oh,
that was it, but no, no, there's more. The set
changes a little bit and he gets on the pedestal
and starts singing Welcome to the Electric Circus, and I'm

(12:25):
just like, yeah, part two, this is amazing. And then
he slows down getting ready to play wild Child, and
he kind of switches it up a little bit because
I know Black he can't hit the high notes as
well as he used to, so I get it. He
kind of like he does this with his guitar. He
goes like like he does it like in a very

(12:47):
bluesy style. He was like, oh, a wild Child, come
and love me. And then as he gets done with
that entire part of the song, it picks up and
then all of a sudden, this goes back to four
metal scent style and I'm like, this is great. So yes,
that right. There was definitely an experience to remember. The

(13:10):
reason I kind of wanted to talk about this was
to kind of share my experience of what concerts are like,
and I kind of want to hear what your guys'
experience was with a bunch of concerts. It could be
any concert I really like to know, so If you
have an experience you want to share, please comment on
my Facebook page and I can bring you on the
show next time. Anyway, that was my experience with the

(13:34):
band WASS, and I hope you guys enjoyed that. To
anybody who has never heard WASP, look them up now,
because if you haven't, you're missing out. Anyway. This is
Sea Bass from rocking with Sea Bass. Take care and
keep on rocking.
