Speaker 1 (00:01):
Week one of the NFL season. It is officially in
the books. It is Nick Wise the podcast version. Week
one NFL review is what we're going to do right now.
Thank you so much for checking this out. Really appreciate it.
Week one in the books. After the victory from the
forty nine ers last night, thirty two to nineteen, little
bit of drama at the end of the game. Jordan Mason,

(00:23):
the backup running back, was you know, the star of
the game. He had one hundred and forty seven rushing yards.
In the postgame interview, they asked him when it was
Lisa Salters she had asked him when he found out
he would be the starter, and he said something along
the lines of like, oh, maybe Friday. I think it
was Friday. I knew I was going to be the
starting running back. And you know, in the postgame press

(00:47):
conference they brought that up to Kyle Shanahan and Kyle's like,
I never told him he was starting. I never told
him he was starting, you know. And basically what happened
there was the San Francisco forty nine Ers might have
been holding back on Chris si McCaffrey's injury and they
weren't honest in their injury report, and that is something
that the NFL does not allow teams to do. It's

(01:08):
not like the NHL. You have to declare all of
your injuries. All of this needs to be public knowledge.
A lot of this is because of the gambling world.
Everybody needs to know the injury report and it's got
to be truthful. And the forty nine ers may have
not have been completely honest with their injury report. Did
it play a difference a factor in how how teams

(01:31):
would would would gamble, probably, or how how people would gamble.
Probably not. You're still betting whatever way you did, and
the outcome was still the same, whether Christian McCaffrey was
in there or not. Jordan Mason was absolutely incredible, but
you know they might get a little bit of trouble
for that. The postgame press conference was pretty interesting with

(01:51):
Jordan Mason because he was then asked the question again
and he was like, I don't remember when code. He's like,
this was not only talking to the media. He's like,
you know, you say the one and then I'm get
in trouble. Like he definitely messed up. He shouldn't have
said Friday, but look, he was excited. He had the
game of his life. He's not thinking about the rules
that his coach may have broken. And again, I don't

(02:12):
think it played a factor much in the betting side
because San Francisco still covered and they won the game.
Deebo Samuel I had a great game. He lined up
at running back a lot of time for a few
snaps as well. I didn't know that. Maybe I missed
it in the offseason. I didn't know Deebo Samuel was
going to change his number. He went from number nineteen
to number one, and San Francisco had another nineteen on

(02:35):
the field. It was confusing me for a while. It
took me a minute to realize Deebo is no longer
number nineteen. So Week one in the NFL, there were
some good games. We'll get to the most exciting games.
We'll also talk about your Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Do you
want you want to start with the Bucks? I think
I think that makes the most sense if you're listening
to this right now, there's a good chance here in

(02:56):
the Tampa Bay area, because I think that's where a
mature already of my audience lives. So let's talk about
the Bucks. What do we like what we didn't like.
Baker Mayfield loved through for two hundred and eighty nine
yards and four touchdowns, and he spread the ball out
to everybody. You get a touchdown, you get a touchdown,
you get a touchdown. Mike Evans with two Mike Evans.

(03:19):
That first touchdown grab was absolutely incredible. That is something
only Mike Evans could catch. Now, Mike Evans still had
the signature drop in the game. It wasn't you know,
it wasn't effective at all in the outcome of the game.
But Mike Evans is always good for that, Like that
one drop right that it's like it's like it seems
like something that you or I could catch and he

(03:41):
just doesn't. And then there's the catches like that first
touchdown where it's like, how in the world did he
catch that? Mike Evans is absolutely incredible. Chris Godwin got
a touchdown, which was good to see. I think, welcome
back to the slot Chris Godwin. Right, you know, he
wasn't in the slot last year in the offense and
he didn't he ate over a thousand yards, which is nice,

(04:02):
but he didn't have the touchdowns to go along with
those yards. So we had two touchdowns a year ago.
He's already got one this year. That's what you'd love
to see. And we got a touchdown out of the
rookie Jalen McMillan, who I had in my player touchdown
parlay at plus three twenty five, Jalen McMillan scores his
first touchdown as a buccaneer. He had an opportunity to

(04:24):
get a touchdown there, and I believe it was the
first quarter. He was wide open, ends up dropping it,
which was very disappointing because you had seen him catch
balls very similar like that in the preseason. Wasn't able
to reel it in. Doesn't get the touchdown because it
was a touchdown had he caught it, And I was
glad to see him bounce back and get that touchdown

(04:45):
opportunity later on in the game. So Jalen McMillan definitely
excited for him. Right the rookies I thought did overall
a really good job in this football game. I think
we are really excited about Bucky Irvan. Bucky Irving was
the guy that if you listen to my radio show,
you know I've been hyping him up. Bucky Irving is
a guy. I've been drinking the kool aid on for

(05:07):
a while. I like it. I liked him at Oregon.
I loved him when I love the pick, when Jason
Light made it. Bucky Irving, I think compliments Rashad White
very well. They are very similar running backs. Rashad White
is a little bit bigger. But if you look at
their senior years in college, Rashad White and Bucky Irving,
you look at their receiving numbers and the rushing numbers,
they are almost identical. So you know, I think some

(05:31):
people like to have two different running backs. Right if
you look at Detroit, who they're playing this weekend, you
got the power back and David Montgomery, you got the
speedster and Jamier Gibbs. Now, the thing with jamiir Gibbs,
though he also can run like a power back too,
but he has the ability to be the speedster guy
where you know the rushing attack. Here in Tampa Bay,
it's you have Rod, Rashad White and Bucky Irving who

(05:52):
were very similar. But at the same time, the playbook
no matter who's in the backfield, you don't really have
to change it specifically for one guy, So that can
be an advantage. But the Bucks they rushed for one
hundred and twelve yards this this week. Let me see.
Let me look up. Let's see where that ranks amongst
teams in the National Football leagu Let's do NFL rushing

(06:16):
leaders by team, and let's see where that puts the
uh Let's see where that puts the Buccaneers, because remember
last year they were thirty seconds. So what did I
say they had? They had one hundred and twelve. So
they got over one hundred, which is very nice. That
is good for it looks like they're in the middle
of the pack. Yeah, they are. Look one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen,

(06:43):
seventy eighteenth. All right, so right around the middle. That
the eighteenth best rush offense. I think it has room
to grow, and I think it will. I gotta be honest.
I thought that I think it was I think it
was good enough. Obviously, right, they won. I did expel
a little bit. I guess I expected a little bit

(07:04):
more than one hundred and twelve yards. And maybe I'm
getting a little bit greedy and putting a little bit
too much pressure on a team that was thirty second
a year ago. But when you looked at the Washington
Commanders defensive front, they weren't good upfront, great linebackers, you know,
their interior offensive line not so much. So I did

(07:24):
expect the Buccaneers run offense to perform. So I don't
know if I want to get carried away and say
it was explosive, although there were some explosive runs, which
is something we didn't see a year ago. You had
that out of Rashad White, you had that from Bucky Irving.
In fact, Rashade White had a run for fifteen yards,
Bucky Irving had one go for thirty one yards, and

(07:45):
runs like that is something we didn't see a year ago,
whether it was against a good team or a bad team.
So I think the running game definitely has you excited,
and it should. I think there's still room to grow there,
and I do expect that running back room and the
offensive line to get better as the year goes on.
I think the story of this game is Baker Mayfield.

(08:06):
I thought he was absolutely incredible. You know, he went
twenty four of thirty and I think that this was
Baker Mayfield's best game as a Buccaneer. I don't think
that's a hot take either. I think as a buccaneer,
that was Baker Mayfield's best game and it wasn't even close.
And not to say he hasn't had good games before.
He was just perfect and anytime he was under pressure,

(08:28):
he made the right decision. You could tell that Baker
Mayfield has been in the film room studying the game
film because he just made the right decisions every single time.
And you gotta be happy with the Bucks offense right now,
especially getting the contributions from Godwin. Rashad White had six receptions.
He was actually second on the team. He had one

(08:49):
go for thirty two yards, which was tied for the
second longest reception on the team. Jalen McMillan obviously had
the other thirty two yarder which went for a touchdown,
and again I was very happy to see Jalen McMillan
rebound from the drop that he had. Bucky Irving caught
two passes for fourteen yards, so used a little bit
in the past game, but Rashad White used a little

(09:11):
bit more. Between the two of them, they had eight
balls thrown their way and you gotta be happy with
the offense. In Week one, so I'm gonna give them
a name minus. I think that again, I think the
run game was good. What do we just say? They
were eighteenth in the league for Week one. That's coming
from thirty two. I would say that's an improvement. So
I'm excited there. Now, when it comes to the defensive

(09:33):
side of things, all right, I've got some worries. And
it's weird because I was a little bit more confident
in the defense going into the year than I was
the offense. But when it comes to the defense, I've
got some worries the secondary. You know, we already thought
the secondary was thin, and now that secondary is going
to be a little bit thinner. As they have to

(09:54):
take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday, they're gonna be
without Bryce Hall in a leg injury. He will not play.
That was actually a season ending injury, most likely Zi McCollum.
He went out with a question or I'm sorry, a concussion.
He is questionable for Sunday. That's obviously going to come

(10:14):
down to whether or not he can, you know, pass protocol.
He's probably not going to get a lot of practice time.
I think the biggest injury in Week one that was
suffered obviously Antoine Winfield Junior. It's a foot and ankle injury.
Expected to be out three to four weeks. That is
according to Jenna Lane of ESPN dot Com. That's gonna

(10:34):
be a big one and Antoine Winfield Junior is going
to be a guy that you miss in Detroit because
Jameson Williams he looks like the real deal at this point.
That could be an overreaction to Week one, but he
got a long touchdown against the Bucks a year ago
at Raymond James Stadium, and I think it was a
forty eight yarder and now he's going to it looks
like he's kind of finally unleashed his talents. In Detroit,

(10:57):
he was their leading receiver, mon Ross Saint Brown of
quiet Sam Laporta was very quiet for the For the Lions,
Jameson Williams look to be their lead guy, at least
in Game one. I don't think he's going to be.
I don't think he's going to ever be the lead
guy over Amanaa Saint Brown. It's just the way the
game flowed. But not having Antoine Winfield Junior as the
safety to be able to help over the top with
the speed of Jameson Williams. That's going to be a

(11:19):
big loss in Week two. That's definitely gonna have me
a little bit worried. Elijah Kncey is still questionable, Logan
Hall still questionable. Klaisa Canscy just seems to always have
these these calf injuries. I've googled how to give Kelijah
Cansy my calf and nothing pops up. But I'd love
to give him mine so we can stop worrying about

(11:39):
this calf injury. So a little bit worried about the
Bucks injuries obviously going forward as far as this game goes, Look,
you know you get a rookie quarterback. I know some
people were upset put up twenty points. Look, it's not
the end of the world. It's not just a rookie quarterback.
It's also a guy that it's a mobile rookie quarterback.
And I know that a lot of people are very

(12:01):
upset with how many rushing yards they gave up to
Jade and Daniels. It was eighty eight and he had
two touchdowns. Now those two touchdowns were right around the
goal line. It wasn't like he broke off long runs.
I'm not gonna sweat the defense giving up eighty eight
rushing yards to a moving quarter or a mobile quarterback.
First off, it's Week one. Your starters haven't played. Not

(12:21):
to mention guys, everybody struggles against mobile quarterbacks. It's not
just the Bucks. It's something that's not easy to defend.
And so you also he's a guy that you had
no film on. I think overall, you know, the Bucks
defense made things hard on Jayden Daniels hit a QBR
A forty one and a half. You know, I don't
think Jayden Daniels was I thought he was. He looked

(12:44):
like a solid rookie quarterback. And maybe as a as
a Bucks fan, and you have Todd Bowle, somebody who's
been in the league for so long, maybe you expected
his defense to make him look, I guess even more
so like a rookie quarterback. You wanted him to be
a bad rookie quarterback, kind of like what Caleb Williams
looked like in Tennessee. I think that was our expectation.
Our expectation here in Tampa Bay is that Jayden Daniels

(13:04):
would really struggle the way Kayleb Williams, the way Kaylen
Williams did and that just wasn't the case. So I
think the defense has some things to clean up now
going into week two. You don't have to worry about
a mobile quarterback, obviously. You do have to worry about
all of the weapons though that Detroit has and all
of the matchups that they have that you know, if

(13:25):
the secondary can't get healthy, it could be a long, long,
long day up in Detroit next weekend. But you know, Detroit,
they went up against the Rams team Sunday night that
has had a lot of injuries, especially up on the
offensive line, and they weren't able to really run away
with that game and went to overtime. So I think
that I think that you're not out of it just

(13:46):
because of the injuries. I will say that the key
to Detroit and will break down this game more as
the week goes on. It's really going to come down
to the defensive line. Because if you watch Sunday Night football,
you saw overtime, Detroit just took the ball, they ran
it down there roads. Our offensive lines better than your
defensive line, and we're gonna prove it to you. And
I think that's the game plan. Detroit's gonna have against

(14:08):
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next next weekend. They're going to
try to run the ball their offensive line versus your
defensive line. They got one of the best offensive lines
in the game. You could probably say they have the
best offensive line in the NFL right now. And it's
gonna be up to the defensive line of the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers to slow the running game of Jamior Gibbs
and David Montgomery down next week. And again that obviously

(14:32):
comes down to the secondary as well. If the offensive line,
you know, is blocking well for Jared Goff and the
defensive line can't get any pressure, that's not good for
the secondary that's banged up right now either. So I
think it opens up at a seven and a seven
point spread. Before the injuries, it was six and a half,
so right around the same, which is interesting. I have
a feeling that spread's gonna go up as the Ntwine

(14:54):
Winfield Junior news continues to spread and everybody gets that
information in their hands. But I by no means think
that the Lions will run away with this game just
because of the injuries that the Bucks have in the secondary.
Will the Lions be able to exploit it? Possibly but
the Detroit Lions aren't really known for blowing teams out. Again,
the Rams were so banged up Sunday night. On paper,

(15:17):
it looked like Detroit should have won that game handily,
and yes, they covered the spread. But when they lose
Puka Nikua, they lose four offensive linemen, you expect them
to be, you know, not going to overtime. You expect
them to get the job done. But no, they were
down in that game with you know, three minutes to go.

(15:38):
So it's the NFL, anyone could win. I definitely wouldn't
panic on the injury front. I'd rather be injured early
rather than later on in the season. Gives it a
chance to get healthy. But definitely a bummer to Week one,
even though they were able to pull off the win.
How about me, did you see the video of me
in my clown outfit yesterday? I look like a clown
after Week one? You know, I picked the Falcons to

(16:00):
win the South, so I dressed up as a clown
yesterday because that's what Atlanta made me look like. The
Bucks obviously looked like a team that could win the South. Look,
I'll say this a little bit of overreaction to Week one.
I made the clown video as entertainment. You know, I'm
not gonna take back my prediction, That's not what I do.
But I thought the Bucks looked really good and Atlanta
looks like a team that is just coming together. Right.

(16:23):
They don't look like they've played much football together, and
that's because they haven't. But I don't want to get
too carried away and think that the Bucks are just
gonna run away with this division, because I still think
we have a lot to find out by find out
about this team. I think you're gonna find out a
little bit more against the Lions this weekend, and the
same goes for the Saints. Right like they whooped up
on Carolina. I think Carolina, we know they're not very good.

(16:44):
Dave Canalis appears to be in over his head, and
we didn't really get to learn much about the Saints
because well, they played Carolina. They're gonna play Dallas this weekend.
So I think we learn a lot about the Saints
and the Bucks this year this weekend and who they
really are. With the Bucks, maybe we don't learn as
much if they are to get beat pretty good, because
you know, we can look back at and go, well, look,

(17:06):
we didn't have a secondary, and we know what happened
last year in the playoff game against Detroit when Jammel
Dean went down and the secondary got really thin, Jared
Goff was able to pick the Bucks apart. And this
time the Bucks are gonna have an opportunity to prepare
to be thin. And I expect Todd Bowles to have
the defense ready to go, and I think they they
might not go into Detroit and win, but I do

(17:27):
think they compete in the defensive line going to be
the key to doing so. But the Falcons, they didn't
look good. Now, granted they did play a playoff team
from a year ago, and you got to remember the
Bucks played Washington, who again. That's why I say we're
going to learn so much more about the Bucks this weekend,
because at the end of the day, Washington did have
the second pick in the draft last year for a reason.

(17:48):
They weren't a very good football team. So I think
to say Atlanta's really bad and we're not worried about them,
I think that's a bit of an overreaction to Week one.
But I think you have all the rights in the
world to all the confidence in your team because The
Bucks looked close to perfect in week number one and
Atlanta looked anything but I will say this though the

(18:08):
Atlanta touch the Atlanta defense did not give up a touchdown.
It was all field goals, which is I mean, how
the fact you'll give up any touchdowns and you still
don't win the game. I think it's gonna be a
long year for Pittsburgh really their offense, whether it's Russell
Wilson or justin Fields going forward, It's going to be

(18:29):
a long year for that, for that defense or for
that offense. There were some good games though in Week one.
How about did anyone lose their Survivor pick? If you
play a survivor, that's done though, right? I had the
Cincinnati Bengals. Wow, they laid an egg at home to
the Patriots. They lost sixteen to ten, probably the biggest

(18:50):
upset of the weekend. How does that happen if you're Cincinnati?
I think that just that's drama. Guys not being in
training camp, guys sitting out, wanting a deal, a lot
of distractions in Cincinnati. I should have known that going in.
I saw something that ESPN dot Com. I think it
was like forty two percent of Survivor leagues had the
Bengals in Week one, So if you're in a survivor,

(19:12):
you are out if you don't play Survivor. How it works,
you pick one team every week. You can't pick the
same team more than once, and you were just alive
until a team that you picked loses, and the Bengals
were that team. I think one of the most fun
games on the weekend. Texas and Texans and Colts. Great
divisional matchup. Guys. That was one of those lines I

(19:33):
gave you that. I said, looks weird, it seems too
good to be true. Right, You're giving me the Texans
at three two and a half is where the line
was flirting. Texans were really good last year, not that
the Colts weren't, but all the hype was CJ. Stroud
going into Indy. You felt good taking Houston minus two
and a half Houston minus three. What did I say,

(19:54):
it's too good to be true? Go the other way
on it. I told you to take the Colts. Division
underdogs cover seventy one percent of the time, seventy nine
percent of the time Week one at home, So I
went with divisional underdogs in Week one. It didn't quite
work out for me. It did with the Colts and Texans,
but it obviously didn't work out for me in a

(20:15):
couple other games. How about the Bears Titans game. I
think the Titans coach said the best. Had they just
punted on first down, they would have won the game.
Remember the movie The Water Boy when the other team
just kept punting because Adam Sandler played linebacker and it
kept Bobby Bouchet off the field. That's what Tennessee could
have done, and they would have beat the Bears because

(20:39):
you know, Caleb Williams, welcome to the NFL. Kid. You're
not in the Pac twelve anymore. You can't just stand around,
turn around, run around backwards fifty yards. You're not gonna
make those plays in the NFL. And he was sacked
a couple times. He was sacked twice, which cost them
twenty nine yards. And it was from all that run

(21:00):
around he was trying to do in the backfield. Kaylen
Williams went fourteen to twenty nine, only had ninety three
passing yards, didn't throw any touchdowns, didn't have any interceptions,
a QBR of twenty two. Really, the game wasn't won
from the Bears offense, which we expected to be so good, right.
Dj Moore had thirty six yards, Keenan Allen had twenty nine.

(21:20):
Romo Dunese only had a catch. He also got hurt
in that game. He's questionable for this weekend. And then
on the ground, they only had eighty four yards rushing
as a team, led the way by DeAndre Swift. So
the Bears offense wasn't great. Their defense won them that game.
They stole that game. They had no right to win
that game. Tennessee. Will Levis just made some really, really

(21:42):
stupid decisions at the end of the game, and Will
Levis cost his team a victory. The Bills were down
big to Arizona. They had to make a comeback. They did.
They got the job done thirty four to twenty eight.
If you were watching this game trying to pay attention
to Marvin Harrison June year didn't do so well. He

(22:02):
only had one catch for four yards. I expect him
to be better as the year goes along. The Jaguars.
They were up big on the Dolphins for a while
in that game. The Dolphins end up winning twenty to
seventeen after Tyreek Kill got arrested and that was the
big story of the day. So the video footage from

(22:24):
the police department from what is it the chess cam
whatever they call it, that was released last night. I
watched that. I think Tyreek Hill was an absolute ass.
He definitely didn't handle himself good in that position. But
that said, even if he did handle himself not right.

(22:44):
The officers were all wrong. They were way too aggressive.
None of that was necessary. But in the beginning of
the video, they asked him to roll his window down,
and that was for the safety of the police officers.
He refused to do so. That was when they ripped
the door open and ripped out of the car, and
I thought they were way over aggressive in that moment.

(23:05):
I just I wish both sides could have handled themselves better.
I think Tyreek could have handled themselves better, and I
think that obviously the police department could have held themselves
much better than what they did. They were way too aggressive.
They didn't need to be that. But again, Tyreek Hill
is he's the victim here, but he poked the bear

(23:27):
a little bit, all right. I'm not going to give
him just a free pass. Again, they were way over aggressive,
no reason. He yanked him out of the car and
put him in cuffs the way that they did. Also,
he could have just rolled the window down because he
did have dark tints and they do want to have
his Maybe at the moment they didn't know it was
Tyreek Hill. I don't know. You know, if you're a
Miami police officer, how do you not know that? But

(23:49):
maybe they didn't in the moment. I don't know. But
both sides I thought were wrong. Obviously the police department
more wrong. But Tyreek could have handled himself a little
bit better in that situation. But the Dolphins they escape
with a win. They got Buffalo Thursday night and shout
out to the NFL. They usually do this once a year.
They give us a nice Thursday night game. Right, we
got Miami taking on the Bills. That should be a

(24:12):
good one. I think the spread opened up at one
and a half in the favor of the Dolphins. Panthers
and Saints. Dave Canalis quarterback whisperer, Right, that's what a
lot of people have called him since the work that
he did here in Tampa. Baker Mayfield, Gino Smith before that,
Dave Canalis looks like he's in over his head and
the Carolina Panthers did not look ready to go. Bryce

(24:33):
Young looked absolutely the same as he looked last year.
It is going to be a long year in Carolina.
They are definitely going to be at the bottom of
the South, and it is a privilege to play them
twice a year. And the Buccaneers get to do just
that again. We'll learn more about the Saints in the
Cowboys game. Giants Danny Dimes, he looks awful. He's now

(24:59):
throwing touchdowns to the other team than he has his
own team since he got that deal. He didn't look good.
You know, I was expecting better. I know they made
some improvements in the offseason to the offensive line. It
didn't matter. And a lot of times I don't necessarily
defend Daniel Jones, but I do say, Look, he got
sacked eleven times in a game last year. Let's give
him the benefit of the doubt, all right, No more

(25:21):
benefit of the doubt. He's bad. It was a horrible deal.
The Giants will be drafting a quarterback in the draft
this year. The Raiders and Chargers Jim Harbass first game.
JK Dobbins the leading rusher in that game. Kind of
cool to see Michigan coach Ohio State running back. They're
kind of like in each other. Jim Harbaugh gave JK.
Dobbins the game ball after the end of the game.

(25:43):
I know JK. Dobbins appeared on the Pat McAfee show.
They talked about the Michigan Ohio State rivalry a little bit. JK.
Dobbins denied and said those wins for Michigan did not count.
I don't know if he said that to Jim Harbaugh,
but he did say that on the show, and I'm
sure him and we'll have a little friendly exchange today
at practice. But it's just kind of cool to see

(26:05):
those things, right Like a former Michigan coach, former Buck
Guye remember they played each other in college. JK was
at Ohio State while Jim was at Michigan, so I
always get a kick out of those. I thought that
the Raiders were going to have a better run game
against the Chargers and that just never happened. The Chargers
defense held him to ten points. Bo nicks his first

(26:28):
game of the year. If you didn't get a chance
to watch this game, you probably didn't because they were
on the same time as the Buccaneers. Bonnicks twenty six
to forty two and thirty eight yards. He kind of
struggled in his first game. I expected him to struggle
in his first game. I think bow Knicks was a
little bit of a stretch of a pick. I thought
in college a lot of his numbers were inflated because
of guys like Bucky Irving and you know Franklin, you

(26:53):
know his receiver at Oregon, who they also drafted, didn't
even dress for the game in Denver. Seattle ends up
getting the victory in week number one, and then the
other game everybody was probably talking about, and again you
probably didn't get to see much of it. That was
Cowboys and Browns, and Tom Brady was all they really

(27:14):
promoted during this game. They promoted Tom Brady more so
on the call than they did Cleveland taking on the Cowboys.
And I gotta be honest, I know Tom Brady. He
will get better as time goes along. I wasn't impressed,
but I didn't expect Tom Brady to be the best
color commentator right off the rip, right he was handed
three hundred million dollars, he accepted it. I don't think

(27:36):
he's had much training. He definitely he wasn't good. There
were often times where he talked for too long. The
color commentator, you know, his job is to talk after
the play happens. There were a lot of times he
was talking after the play and continued to talk even
after the snap of the next play, and that's a
no no if you're color analyst. That's when the play
by play guy is supposed to take over. So Tom

(27:58):
Brady was nowhere near as good as Greg Olsen. Again,
it's Tom Brady, I get it. I don't know they
should have. I don't know if they should have promoted
it as hard as they did about Brady making the
call because I didn't think it was. It wasn't like
it was the worst thing in the world. I think
he will get better and Tom Brady's gonna read the

(28:19):
stuff on Twitter, and Tom Brady's one of those people
who works hard and will perfect his craft. I expect
him to get better. But I thought they over promoted
a product that wasn't just you know, ready to go.
And you know Tom Brady, he's human. He definitely was.
He wasn't great, and there wasn't a lot of energy.

(28:42):
I think that which was Chris Hansen from the Red
Zone Channel did allude to in a tweet. He has
then since walked back on that tweet, which I think
I didn't think he needed to walk back on that.
I thought that was a little bit ridiculous. He made
a comment about Tom Brady not showing energy. He eventually
had to apologize for that, which is ridiculous. He shouldn't
have been forced to apologize for his comments because they

(29:03):
were completely accurate. Tom Brady needs some more energy. He
was very flat monotone, and it just it. He didn't
excite me, right, He wasn't Greg Olsen. So obviously he's
going to continue to work and get better. He better
because he's done a ten year deal for two seventy
five or three hundred million dollars whatever it was. But
I definitely didn't think he was worth the amount of

(29:24):
money they paid him, at least not yet. He definitely
struggled in Week number one. The other game when we
kind of touched on it briefly, Lions rams, Lions winning overtime,
Rams were depleted with injuries. He thought the Lions were
going to be able to run away with this game.
They just never did. Matthew Stafford made some throws that

(29:45):
only Matthew Stafford can make. They were quite impressive, but
the Lions are able to get it done at home.
They will take on the Bucks next week. We'll get
more into that game as the week goes along. And
that's pretty much everything that went down in Week one.
You know, back to the Browns Boys game, I think
at some point we got to start talking about maybe
Jamis Winston being the starting quarterback for this team. You know,

(30:07):
on social media, all you ever see is Jameis Winston
given you know, pregame Pep talks to the team. You
don't ever see Deshaun Watson doing so. Deshaun Watson did
not play good in this football game. Now. I know
his father passed away, was it two or three days
before the game, So I'll give him a little bit
of a pass if it was a one time thing.
The problem is it wasn't a one time thing. The

(30:30):
Browns have struggled with Sean Watson since he got there.
I think the guy is he's messed up in the head, right.
He's got all of these crazy lawsuits against him, and
I just I don't think he's all there. He was
twenty four or forty five in the game only had
one hundred and sixty nine yards. I think Deshaun Watson's done,
I really do, and the Browns are gonna come off

(30:51):
making one of the worst trade trades in the NFL history,
followed by Bryce Young in Carolina trading all of those
ones to get Bright Young. Right, Like, those are two
really bad rates. Look at Chicago, look at Houston compared
to Cleveland and Carolina. Right, getting rid of your draft
picks to get the high end quarterback not the right move,

(31:15):
although with Cleveland's it felt a little bit safer, right
because Deshaun Watson was so good when he was with Houston.
Then he sat out for a year and he just
hasn't been the same. And again I think that's because
his mental headspace just isn't great. So that's going to
wrap it up for me. I hope you enjoyed this podcast.
