The more listeners, the better, right, That's how this works. Again,
Thank you so much for listening. Really appreciate it. On
the podcast today, we're going to talk about last night's
Baltimore Ravens Kansas City Chiefs game. I also want to

(00:47):
talk about Kate Stover's comments, former tight end of the
Ohio State Buckeyes. He made some comments that are circling
the internet today that I actually disagreed with because of
something that he said. I think he didn't realize what
he had said until he maybe after he said it,
maybe he's realizing, Wow, this was a really dumb comment
to make. So that is what we're gonna knock on

(01:09):
the Knockdown on the show today. We'll start with the
NFL because that's the number one headline in the world today.
The Chiefs defeat the Ravens twenty seven to twenty and
I would say an overall not a great start to
the NFL for a couple of reasons, but at the
same time, great start for the NFL. The reason why

(01:30):
it was a great start, it was an incredible game
with an incredible ending. You know, Isaiah likely with almost
the most amazing catch ever. He was literally a toe
away from making the catchup a lifetime to defeat the
camp well, not to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, but
to give them a chance to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs.
John Harbaugh was going for two and I gotta be honest.

(01:53):
One thing I don't miss about football is there's two things. One,
I had the Ravens minus three. I gave you guys
that pair ups are of the Ravens getting three. I
gave that pick to you guys yesterday. I basically gave
you a lot of trends and why to pick the Ravens.
And I also tend to lean with the points in
a game where I think either one of these teams
could win, and I thought Baltimore was capable of winning

(02:16):
the game. And so when I thought Isaiah likely had
the touchdown and I thought they were going for two,
we were in the clear. We were going to cover
whether they get the two or not. It was the
perfect situation for us, and unfortunately we took a kick
to the balls and we don't win the bet, we
don't cover. And that's a feeling I did not miss

(02:37):
in the offseason. The other feeling I didn't miss waking
up after just getting not enough sleep because the game
went on so late eight forty start because of the
rain to lay even the eight to twenty start, it's
too late. Being in the East Coast sucks. If you're
in the Eastern time zone listening to this, you feel
my pain right And it's no matter what the sport.

(02:59):
Monday night foot the championship to the NCAA tournament. What
did that start at this year? Nine to twenty. It's
the worst I lived in Arizona for a little bit.
Best time zone four sports, because you're a three and
a two hour difference from the East Coast, depending on
the time of the year. So the beginning of the
NFL season, the games at the one o'clock games they

(03:20):
start at ten o'clock there. Then halfway through the year
those games will start at eleven o'clock there because Arizona
doesn't switch times. I'd go to the bar, have some
bloody Mary's, watch the games, and Sunday Night football would
be over by eight thirty. Then the second half of
the year be over by nine thirty, same with Monday
night football. It was awesome, greatest thing ever now on
the East Coast, though we got to stay up until midnight.

(03:40):
Midnight was when that game ended last night, just a
couple of minutes before midnight, which is way too late.
But you got me, NFL. I didn't miss a minute
of it because overall, like I said, great game. Let's
talk about the play at the end though, there was
a couple missthrows by Lamar Jackson Isaiah likely in the
corner of the end zone. He's open on that play

(04:02):
where it looked like he had got injured. Then the
very next play, Jay Flowers wide open back of the
end zone. Lamar misses him. Now, I am not going
to put that miss throw on Lamar. A lot of
people criticizing Lamar enough with the comments about this is
what happens when you have a running back playing quarterback.
Lamar Jackson's a damn good quarterback. He just happens to

(04:23):
be able to run really, really well. And that threat
is say Flowers where he's in the back of the
end zone all by himself, and Lamar Jackson isn't able
to hit him. I am actually putting the blame on
that play on Zay Flowers. Say Flowers, when you are
that open in the zone, soft coverage, you need to
stay put in the back of the end zone. You

(04:44):
shouldn't be moving around. He should have planted his feet,
he should have turned his body looking at his quarterback.
He should have stood still. He didn't do that. And
you know, look, he's a second year guy. Maybe he didn't.
Maybe he missed the assignment, wasn't thinking. You know, it's
all coming to real time. I guarantee you John Harbaugh
and the offensive staff are gonna be going over the

(05:05):
tape and they're gonna be showing him that and he's
not gonna make that same mistake again. That's something he's
going to learn in the film room. This week. But
that's on, say Flowers. You gotta hold your ground. You
can't be on the run in the back of the
end zone. When you find the soft zone coverage, you
beat the defense. Now sit there and wait for the ball. Instead,
he continued to run and that's why Lamar Jackson threw

(05:28):
it behind him. So you know Lamar. I thought he
played well. Overall. I thought that the offense was very conservative,
especially in the first half. In the second half they
let Lamar run it a little bit more. But the
first half, you could definitely tell that the Baltimore Ravens
know their offensive line isn't very good. They're replacing three

(05:48):
other five starters, and you could tell. And if this
offensive line doesn't figure it out and they don't start gelling,
it's gonna be a long year for the Ravens. And
that's not another reaction from Week number one. Offensive line
controls everything, and you're not going to win without a
good offensive line, you know, otherwise you know your best

(06:08):
bet is what happened with the Bengals in twenty twenty one.
They got to the Super Bowl. Bad offensive line, excellent
quarterback play, and they win that Super Bowl. Had they
had an offensive line. So it's not that you can't
be successful. You know, the Baltimore Ravens show they could
get to a super Bowl. I just don't see them
being able to do so in the AFC being so
deep and then eventually winning a super Bowl with that

(06:30):
offensive line that is definitely going to have to improve,
and if it doesn't get better, the Baltimore Ravens are
not going to win a super Bowl or win their division. Now,
I did pick the Bengals to win the division. I
feel a little bit more comfortable about that now. Obviously,
Joe Burrow will have to stay healthy and Jamar Chase
will have to play. I know he's been holding out
because he wants to get paid, But I feel better

(06:51):
about that pick now because again, I just with what
we saw from that offensive line. They could not protect
Lamar Jackson. A lot of quick screens got the ball
out of Lamar's hands very quickly, and I remember at
one point in the game it was either Mike Tarico
or Chris Collinsworth had said, I have never seen a
stat like this before. His air yards is one yard

(07:11):
per pass is what he's averaging in the first half,
and I had never seen a stat like that either
until two weeks prior, dj Uyunglula for Florida State. At
halftime his stat line, he was eleven for twelve, but
he averaged negative zero point one air yards And that's
exactly what That's what Baltimore was doing yesterday, and they

(07:34):
just Lamar had no time that he had to get
the ball out of his hands quick and that is
not going to be something that you're going to be
able to do every single week and be successful. So
Baltimore their future it relies on the offensive line. Their
defense was incredible. New defensive coordinator did a heck of
a job. There were times where Kansas City had a

(07:55):
chance to really blow that game open, and the defense
kept the raven in the game, specifically when Patrick Mahomes
threw the interception right there at the fifty yard line,
and then there was another one where the Ravens had
fumbled the ball, the Chiefs were covered in Baltimore territory
and the Ravens were able to hold them to just
a field goal. Those were big wins by the defense.

(08:16):
The Baltimore Ravens defense definitely kept them in the game.
The offensive line play again for the Ravens not great,
called for four illegal procedures, and this is where I
thought the NFL has a little bit of a problem
and where a lot of US fans aren't happy this morning.
So many flags, and you know so often times, you know,
people often think that the Chiefs get all the calls,

(08:37):
and how could you not think that way? You watched
that game last night for illegal procedures on the Baltimore
Ravens offense, not one on the Kansas City Chiefs, but
four on Baltimore. It looked like the NFL was making
an example out of the Ravens. They were sending a
message saying, look, we're calling this this year now the
offensive line for the Ravens. They swear they were set

(08:59):
up right to send the tape into the NFL. They're
going to ask for, you know, an explanation on all
of this stuff. It's not going to change the fact
of the matter. Two of those illegal procedures were called
on the first drive of the game. The Ravens scored
a touchdown, so it didn't play a massive part in
the outcome of the game, but it is annoying right
when it is one sided, especially all night long for

(09:19):
the Kansas City Chiefs. Juwant Taylor at right tackle was
taking off early every single time. Once again, and we
saw that in the opener last year when the Chiefs
played the Lions. How many times did Juwan Jennings take
off early and not get called for until finally at
the end of the game he did and they ultimately
lose that game to Detroit. Well, they didn't call it
on him at all yesterday. You go back and watch

(09:40):
the tape. He jumped every single time. Just about the
refs need to get it together. They need to make
it look like it is fair. Now. I'm not saying
it's scripted. I'm not one of those people. I don't
even want to say the Chiefs have an advantage, But
my god, sometimes you make it hard for me to
think otherwise. Now, I will give the rep's credit. In

(10:00):
one situation, Patrick Mahomes ran out of bounds. I believe
this was either late in the third or late in
the fourth. I think it was in the fourth quarter,
and Roquan Smith ran out of bounds with him, had
his hands on Pat Mahomes's back, and if you watch
the replay, it looks like he hit Mahomes laid out

(10:25):
of bounds. Like really laid out of bounds. Mahomes goes
down pretty hard, but if you watch the replay, Roquan
Smith never actually even extends his arms. He's got his
hands on mahomes back, but he never actually extends his
arms and pushes. Mahomes just flops right to the ground.
He wasn't pushed at all. And that's what I don't

(10:46):
like about football, And that's what I don't like about basketball,
the flop. That's what I hate about the NBA more
than anything is the flopping. And Patrick Mahomes is the
king of it in the NFL. Now, I'm not somebody
that hates greatness. I appreciate greatness, but I know there
are people out there that do. Once Tiger got really good,
you start to hate Tiger. Once Lebron and Michael Jordan

(11:07):
they get really good. Either love him or you really
hate him. You hate greatness. Patrick Mahomes, you liked him
until he won his third Super Bowl. Now you hate him.
And I don't hate him because he keeps winning. What
I don't like about Patrick Mahomes and where he does
drive me nuts is the constant whining, wanting the flag.
He wanted the flag for the late hit Bro. You
weren't even pushed. You flopped it almost hurt yourself doing so.

(11:31):
Gotta be careful. You know. Every time he throws a
pass and his receiver doesn't catch, his hands are in
the air, he wants a flag. Anytime that he gets
pushed in the backfield, he wants a flag. He got
one yesterday, which I didn't think was roughing the passer.
I don't know what the defender is supposed to do
in that situation. That's the play where Kyle van Nei
got hurt. The defender what is he supposed to do?

(11:52):
Just stop? I mean, they are playing this game as
such a fast, fast pace. It's impossible to do well.
We asked the defense to do in this day and age,
it's impossible, and they make it harder and harder to
play defense every single year. But I get it because
they want points. It's an offensive league. Offense draws ratings.

(12:13):
But I didn't like a couple of those calls, and
I didn't like a couple of the no calls on
the Chiefs. Another call late in that game, it was
I think it was the final play of the third quarter.
There was a holding call where Lamar ran it for
about fifty yards and it got called back. That was
a week hold. That was a really weak asshold. I
mean again, I don't want to sit here and beat

(12:33):
up the refs and I don't want to talk about
the Chiefs always getting the calls, but you make it
hard for me to not believe in the conspiracy. It
drives me crazy. So that's where I thought the NFL
had a little bit of a rough start. Now that
said is not going to keep me from watching more
games this weekend. No, I still get suckered into it

(12:54):
every single year. Let's talk about the final play of
the game. Isaiah Likely makes an incredible catch, absolutely incredible catch.
We think it's a touchdown and the toe is out
of bounce, and as soon as you watch the replay,
you knew it was out of bounds. I was hoping
that it was gonna be too close to reverse. John

(13:14):
Harbaugh was gonna go for two. We were gonna get
an incredible ending in the first game, and not that
it wasn't an incredible ending, but we were about to
get an even better ending than what we got. So overall,
fun night. I'm glad football's back. The NFL, though, get
the flag stuff cleaned up way too many penalties in
that football game. Nobody wants that. All right, let these

(13:36):
guys play. I'm tired of talking about, you know, about
flags in general, Like that's not what we should be
discussing today, but that's what's out there as everybody's very
disappointed in the officiating. Now. Are the reps worse today
than they were years ago? Or is it just that
we have this platform, great cameras and social media to

(13:56):
you know, pick them apart and really dissect all of
these calls? Probably a little it a bath right. It
is a fast based game. These guys are human. They
are going to make mistakes. But man, sometimes just keep
the flag in the pocket. You know, we don't. I'm
not saying you can't call penalties, but I thought they
went overboard yesterday, especially with the Baltimore offensive line. Also

(14:22):
some stuff in the NFL yesterday that I thought, uh,
it was kind of funny. I saw it on Twitter
at the end of it was at the game. After
the game. I had seen it right before I was
going to bed. Kate Stover made some comments. Kate Stover
is the tight end for the Houston Texans who used

(14:43):
to play for Ohio State. He had some things to say.
Was it looked like they were in the locker room,
and props to whoever did the interview. I wish I
could give him credit. I don't know who did it.
They asked some good questions that you know, you don't
typically see a media member ask a football player in
the locker room. But he asked Kate Stover, the former Buckeye,
if he had watched the Connor Stallions Netflix documentary. And

(15:04):
I thought his answer was interesting because he talks about it.
I'm gonna play the audio for you in just a
minute so you can hear it. But he talks about
how they had run a tight end screen and it
was a formation and a play that they have never
run before ever, and he couldn't believe that Michigan knew

(15:25):
the play. And that's when he knew something was going on.
Now here's the only problem I have with his argument.
If it is a formation and a play that you
have never run, how did Michigan pre scout the play?
You know? And now the Ohio State fan base is
going well, then you know practice footage was stolen. Matt Wise,

(15:49):
that was already debunked. Matt Whites had nothing to do
with the sign stealing stuff, had nothing to do with
stolen footage. In fact, Ohio State was the one that
was accused of stealing the footage. I don't know if
anyone stole practic footage, but regardless, when it comes to
the sign stealing stuff, if it's a formation you've never
run before or a play you've never run before, how
is Michigan able to pre scout that play? You know?

(16:11):
I think it was pretty obvious after the snap of
the ball they were able to read where you were going,
and that's how they broke up the screenplay. So here's
the audio from Kate Stover. You listen to it, you
form your own opinion on it, and then let's continue
to talk about it. Stallions knock it off.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
But what the Connor Stallion's the Michigan sign ceiling do?

Speaker 1 (16:30):
No?

Speaker 2 (16:30):
I knew enough about that bullshit as it was. We
saw it. We saw it.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
They were like pointing up and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
Yes, I heard talk about it before too. We tried to.
I don't want to get into but yeah, we tried
to throw a tight end screen like a information we've
never used before, like ever. And when I show that
lined up about why we had one neat play from im.
I was going to motion back in and throw a
screen to him again, they start yelling screen. When you're
throwing a tight end screen, that's when you know, like,

(16:58):
the fuck is this we ever ran?

Speaker 1 (16:59):
It's before? Yeah, and you can't. You can't hate Michigan
anymore than you already do.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
As I always not possible, but I don't have a
lot of room to talk. I didn't too much. We
didn't they beat us.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
So so Texas this week? Right?

Speaker 2 (17:11):
What's that?

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Texas this week against Michigan? Right Eexas, Texas for sure
appreciate it. So there's the audio from Katee Stover, upset
that Michigan was able to stop a play they'd never
run before. So how do you prescott the play if
they'd never run it before? You know, I don't know
if he thought about what he had said. I think
he's going to see that on Twitter and go, oh,
what I said? It was kind of stupid, you know,

(17:32):
did the signs have anything to do with you not
catching the football in the corner of the end zone
when you were wide open? In Columbus in twenty twenty
two and Mikey Saner still knocked the ball out of
your hands? Was that because of the signs? And Mikey
knew the play because you were wide open? He just
happened to make a really incredible play. Had he known
the play, I don't think you would have been that
wide open to begin with, you know. And then there's

(17:54):
the footage you know that you see from that same
game where Michigan's all pointing up into the air like
they know the play. CJ. Stroud throws a touchdown on
the play, you know, when it comes to the sign stealing.
I'm over the whole discussion because we are now in
twenty twenty four and it's still being talked about, you know.
Proxicates over at the end saying I can't really talk.

(18:15):
I didn't really do much. It's because he's got no
gold pants from that series. He's never beat Michigan. CJ.
Stroud never beat Michigan, and I understand if they're a
little bit bitter, and you know, they're probably gonna buy
into the sign stealing stuff, you know, even more to
make themselves feel a little bit better. But like it's
time to move on from that. Michigan went on to
win the national championship. Connor Stallions was gone. You know,

(18:38):
they knocked off Michigan State, Penn State, they beat Maryland,
they beat Ohio State, Alabama, Washington won the title. Conner
Stallions was gone. All these teams had changed their signs,
like it is time to move on from this, and
I get it. He says he didn't want to go
in and talk about it in that clip, but you did.
You said it, and you said something really stupid to

(19:00):
furthermore prove that, like this is all a big conspiracy.
And I'm not saying Michigan isn't guilty. In a little
bit of a way, Michigan clearly went a little bit
too far with the sign stealing stuff. You know, if
you watch the documentary, Connor Stallion says, there's like an
underground network of people that where they share info. I
absolutely believe that there are guys on every single team

(19:22):
their job is to steal signs. Obviously, the way Michigan
went about it, they went a little bit overboard. But
at the end of the day, everybody's got everybody's signs.
So that's why I don't find it as big as
big of an advantage as some like may seem I think,
really it's mostly Buckeye fans in Michigan State fans. I
get why you'd be upset, and I get why it
would make you feel better, but at the end of

(19:44):
the day, you gotta beat take the yel it's over.
In twenty twenty two, it was well known that Ohio
State had changed their signs before the game. In twenty
twenty three, you changed your signs again. The sign stealer
wasn't even on the team. Like it is what it is.
Time to move on. And you know what's going to
be annoying this weekend is that Michigan does lose to Texas,

(20:05):
which they probably will. You're gonna see it all, Oh, well,
it's because they didn't have Connor stallions. Yeah, it's also
maybe because thirteen of the members from last year's team
are in the NFL. You know, that might have a
little bit to do with it. Plus all the other
guys that are no longer on this team that didn't
even go to the NFL but went on to graduate.
So you know, I just I can't buy into the

(20:25):
sign stealing stuff. The end all be all, So Cad Stover,
I think he's going to realize what he said and
probably listen back to that and go, oops, that made
no sense. I'm a little bit of a dummy for that,
because I again, that just it's it's time to move on.
It's it's getting so old. Let's go twenty twenty four.

(20:47):
It's here Michigan Texas. That games tomorrow. That is going
to be a good one. And you know you heard
about the end of the interview, he's rooting for Texas,
and I understand that Quinn yours former Buckeye, going to
be the quarterback in that game, and I'm looking forward
to that one. We got football tonight. We have the
Eagles and the Packers. If you're betting it. In my
football pool, I took the Packers getting the points again

(21:10):
kind of like last night's game. I only took them
because anyone could have win that game, So I tend
to lean with the points that backfired yesterday, So feel
free to fade me if you like. Thank you so
