Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh, here we go. Week three. College football. It is
in the books. We're going to talk a lot of
college football on the podcast today because Chris Mathis and
I will record a podcast later this afternoon that's going
to cover mostly NFL stuff. We'll get into the Buccaneers
game against the Lions on that podcast, So this is
going to be mainly college My name is Nick Wise.

(00:23):
Whether you're listening to this on the Season Tickets podcast
page or maybe you're on the Wis and Mathis page.
I've posted this to a bunch of different platforms. This
is a podcast I do. If you're listening on the
Wise and Mathis page and you're like, what is this,
I've posted it on the Wise and Mathis page two
to bring in the Tampa audience. That way, you guys,
you know you're getting more content, right. I want you

(00:43):
to have as much content from me as you can
possibly have. I always tell people this is something you
can listen to from nine to noon. If you're a
Tampa Bay audience member and you listen to ninety five
three WDA and AM six twenty and you want that
local content, you can't get it from nine to noon.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Perfect time to turn on the podcast.

the season tickets podcast page and the whys of mathis page,
make sure you subscribe to the channel. That way, every
time I put content out, you are aware of it,
you are notified.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Of it, and you can continue to listen. So please subscribe.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
That really helps me out as I continue to put
this content out for you. So lots to talk about
in college football, but because I know a majority of
my audience is in Florida, let's talk about Florida and
Florida State and where do we want to start first?
They're both kind of in a similar situation right now.
There are a combined one in five between the two

(01:37):
of them, Florida one and two, the Seminals zero to three.
Who would have thought? I never envisioned this season for
the Florida State Seminos. I thought they would compete for
the ACC championship, especially after coming off of a year
where they won it. And I get it, they lost
a lot of guys to the NFL Draft and a

(01:58):
majority of the team you know from a year ago,
is gone. But I never expected a step back like this.
You know, I never saw you losing to Georgia Tech.
I never saw you follow up that loss to Boston
College and then to Memphis, Mike Norvel's old school. That
one definitely stings. And you know, not to disrespect Memphis,

(02:19):
but they they're a group of five team. You gotta
beat them. That said, Memphis is you know, expected to
be a contender for the playoff one of those group
of five schools. You know, they're definitely a candidate for that.
You know, Boise State Memphis, I would say, or two
of the top teams considered for that twelfth playoff spot
as of right now. But regardless, Florida State, that's a

(02:41):
football game you gotta win. So we'll start with the knowles,
even though again I think both teams are in a
similar situation, but I feel like they got here completely
different ways. Florida State, well, they got here from using
the transfer portal and not really recruiting on a high level.
They're not recruiting on a low level, but they're not
they're not recruiting on a top ten level.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
All right, Florida State's not.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
They're really working the transfer portal, and sometimes it works,
you know, twenty twenty three, it worked, twenty twenty four,
you just you didn't quite pull the same talent and
it's not gelling together at the moment. And I think
what you're seeing is djuyungla La, despite being a five
star coming into college football.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Out of high school, he doesn't have it. And there's
a reason he's at his third school.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
And if you watched him play at all at Oregon
State last year, you probably didn't because who's watching Oregon
State football. Not a lot of people. They're on late
when they are on TV. But you know, Jonathan Smith
ran a lot of twenty one personnel, handed the ball
off a lot, he had a good running back, he
had a good offensive line in Oregon State. And I'm

(03:50):
not saying he doesn't have those tools at Florida State.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
He does.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
It's just it's a little bit different in a more
complicated system that Mike Norvel runs, and Djuyunglaala just doesn't
look like he has it.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Now.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
On the other side of things, Florida God here from
recruiting and and yes they've they've dipped into the portal
a little bit, that's where they got Graham Mertz, but
really they've they've relied on recruiting high school kids and
bringing them into their program and they're just not developed
developing them and that's where we are here today. So
starting with the Seminoles, dj Oyungolilai, I don't know how

(04:22):
you can continue to roll him out there out of
this football field. I mean, he has not looked good
now three weeks in a row. At one point he
had a stat line. In this game, he was five
of six for seven yards. They cannot throw a forward
pass in Tallahassee and the season is officially done. I
don't think anyone thinks they're going to win the ACC

(04:45):
championship and get into the playoff. Is it mathematically still possible, Yes,
it is technically, you know, obviously they don't control their
own destiny. But it could happen. But I don't think
any realistic fan expects that to happen. This team has
given you no hope that that is a realistic possibility
to happening. So why would we continue to roll dj

(05:07):
Ouyungala out onto this football field for the Florida State Seminal?
It makes no sense. It is time to start playing
for next year. You know, the brock Glen era needs
to start.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Let's see what we have in the kid and start
to develop him. That way, we don't have to go
into the portal next year and find our starting quarterback.
If you're Florida State, you might have one. I'm your
team now, but you got to work with them, and
we're just wasting time with dj Uyungalala. Now, this is
what I hate about Nil because they have put so

(05:39):
much money into him, and they did pay him whatever
it was that they paid him, probably a million dollars.
I don't have the numbers. I'm just throwing it out there.
If cam Ward costs two million, I'm gonna assume you know,
DJ cost a mill. And so when you pay a
kid this kind of money and you get him the
NIL deals, he's expected to play. You know, boosters are

(06:00):
expecting him to play, and there's all this pressure to
play him. If you might know a value, you gotta
just you got to cut your losses. Hey, we did
a bad job. You know, thank your scouting department who
okayed this signing. Because I look, I'm not a college scout.
I could have told you from the beginning this wasn't
going to work out. In fact, I did tell you
in the beginning that this wasn't going to work out.

(06:22):
That's a reason I picked Miami to win the a SECS.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I don't trust dj Oui Anglia.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I just I get all the hype five star coming
out of high school, but that is never translated to
college football and didn't translate to Clemson again.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
At Oregon State, he wasn't asked to do much. They want.
They want a good amount of football games, but it
was off of a really good offensive line in a
run game.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
So I think it's time for Florida State to move on.
You got to see what you have in a quarterback
and for the future. And Florida State fans already talking
about who they want as their next coach. As are
Florida fans. See, they're they're They're in the same area
right now. And that's what sucks. If you're Florida State fan,
you can't even laugh at the downfall of Florida. And
if you're a Florida fan, you can't even laugh at

(07:06):
the downfall of Florida State because you guys are in
this together now and Miami is now the king of
college football in the state of Florida. And so if
you're a Florida State fan, you're you're talking about wanting
to get rid of Mike Norvel. That's not going to happen.
Mike Norvel won the ACC last year. He's having a
down year. This isn't good. You can't have that big

(07:28):
of a fall off. You know, we expected a drop off,
We just didn't expect this big of a drop off.
And despite the drop off being as big as it is,
you can't part ways with Mike Norveld. He just won
you an AZZ championship a year ago. You got to
give him an opportunity to bounce back. But I had
a friend, big Seminals fan, we talked over the weekend.
He was telling me he wanted, you know, Deon Sanders

(07:52):
to be the next coach. And I find this absolutely
insane that anybody would want Deon Sanders to be their
head football coach of a program like Florida State.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Now.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
I don't want to dive too deep into this because
again I don't think Norval is going to get fired.
But what is the appeal of Dion Sanders. Dean Sanders
has the ability to I think Dan Lanning said it
best for organ bring you clicks, get you likes on Instagram.
Know he's going to raise the value of your program,
and he is going to drive excitement like he's doing
at Colorado right Like they're selling out season tickets at

(08:24):
a pace that they've never done before, and their football
program is making all of this money. They're on primetime
television and people are talking about Colorado and that's all
fine and dandy. But eventually, if he doesn't start winning
games at Colorado, what value does he bring because the
season ticket sales are slowly going to start to go away.
The hype was real, but the hype has led to

(08:48):
nothing so far. If you're a Colorado fan, and so
now if you're a Florida State fan, you want to
bring this guy into He doesn't recruit right now. He's
living off of his son, who is a really good
quarterback and still not winning a lot of games. He
got Travis Hunter. Yeah, I give him credit for for
that recruit who he stole from Florida State. But outside

(09:09):
of the you know, if he can't get it done
in Colorado with you know, two possibly two top five
NFL draft picks, when's he gonna get it done? But
he doesn't make any in home visits for recruiting. Deon
Sanders does so Why would you want this guy to
be a coach at Florida It'll never work out. I
get it, he's an alumni, But Deon Sanders to Florida

(09:30):
State that seems like something that will never happen, and
it shouldn't unless Deon Sanders shows us he can start winning.
So I think if you're a Florida State fan, you
gotta pump the brakes on the on the Deon Sanders chatter,
It just doesn't make any sense. What has Dion shown
you that makes you think he can coach a big
time program like Florida State. The whole Colorado program is

(09:56):
a it's a it's a circus. Is that what you
want in Tallahassee? Because I don't. I mean, actually I do,
because I think it's great for radio, it's great for
the podcast to be entertaining. But as far as success
on the field, I don't think Dion Sanders is the answer.
But I think Florida State you got to stick it

(10:16):
out with Mike Norvel, And if you're Mike Norvel, you
gotta bring in Brock Lennin start playing him. We got
to start getting this kid groomed and ready to go.
He needs to be your quarterback next year. I don't
want to dip into the portal once again. If I'm
a Florida State fan, I want to develop one in house,
have him ready to go. So this team next year
is competing and getting back to where they should be

(10:36):
in the ACC. Now, on the other side of the things,
you know, up in Gainesville, down in Gainesville, I guess
you could say from Tallahassee, I'm in Tampa Bay, so
up in Gainesville. Billy Napier, on the other hand, he's out.
There's no reason to, you know, even speculate this man
and save his job because I don't think there's any

(10:58):
way in hell he survives. Now Do I think they
fire them in the season. I don't see what the
point of that is now. I did see that there
was a couple things posted on Instagram over the weekend
talking about, you know, Billion Napier, should he be fired
one not? Some Florida players were liking the Instagram post.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
If you're a.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Florida player, ease up a little bit. You don't want
to be caught liking those posts, whether you liked your
coach or not. But Billy Napier has not done a
good job in Gainesville. Right they are one and two
and it's you know, they're a team that I didn't
really expect to do much this year. I expected them
to win five games. That was my prediction. They're gonna
be lucky if they win two. With the schedule they

(11:36):
have going forward, I don't think they're gonna beat UCF.
And then when they step into the SEC schedule, there's
not many winnable games in the SEC for the Gators.
You know, I think they're ceiling right now is three wins,
maybe one win in the SEC, and I think they
can be Florida State at the end of the year.
You know, if these two were to line up this weekend,

(11:58):
who would be the favorite, Florida or Florida State. I
would say Florida is the better team on a neutral
field because Florida State would.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Have home field advantage.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
I'm gonna say Florida State would be favored in the
game by maybe a point point and a half. I
think the overall better team. I shouldn't call either of
these teams a better team. I think that's a false
phrase to use, but I think Florida is a little
bit better than Florida State just from what I've seen,
and again it's a small sample, and it's hard to

(12:29):
really say Florida is better than anybody.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
But I just think Florida State is really that bad.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
But as far as billion Napier goes in Florida State,
I don't see, you know, any reason to fire him
during the season. It just doesn't make any sense. You
might as well have them there, especially when his buyouts
twenty six million dollars. The Gators are gonna have no
problem probably paying that. They're gonna be paying him and
Dan Mullen not to coach this team and then we
start over again, and where do the Gators go. I've

(12:54):
seen a lot of you know, at least the narrative
on social media anyways, from Gator fans. The Lameki to
Gainesville is something fans want, and a couple of years ago,
I think this would have been possible. But you know,
with the way college football is now in twenty twenty four,
in a twelve team playoff, does Lane Kiffin going from

(13:16):
Ole Miss to Florida really even make sense? Again, a
couple of years ago, I think if we're still in
the era of a four team playoff, I think, yeah,
Lane Kiffin to Florida overall Miss makes sense. Get out
of the SEC West brutal conference, gotta play LSU Alabama.
The West was always just a little bit better than
the East. You know, in the East with Florida, you

(13:37):
gotta worry about Tennessee, who's become a little bit of
a problem lately, although at Florida you have no problem
beating them. And then obviously Georgia, who is the premiere program,
would be in the East as well. But you know,
I think with the twelve team playoff in the in
the East and West, going away in the SEC, I
think Lane Kiffin can accomplish anything you know at ole
Miss that he could accomplish at Florida. So why would

(13:59):
he leave a program that he's already built up and
hasn't a really good position in a fan base that
really doesn't have as high as expectations as Florida fans.
Why would he leave to go rebuild Florida, which is
a mess. I don't think you can get Lane Kiffin.
You know, I completely understand if you don't want to
go back to the group of five level because you
are Florida and you don't want to do the whole

(14:21):
billion napier thing over again. But to think that you
can pull Lane Kiffin, I think is a stretch. I
don't think Florida fans uh or I'm sorry, I don't
think Florida the university could pull Lane Kiffin away from
will miss again. I think it's it's a lateral job
this day and age, and Lane Keivin's done such a
good job at all miss building it up. Why start

(14:43):
over and put all of that pressure on yourself to
maybe be able to do it, to maybe have a
job in a couple of years where I don't miss.
You know, this guy's going to have a statue built
of himself. There are no expectations in Oxford. You know,
they've never won an SEC championship game. They never played
in an SEC championship game, let alone win it. So

(15:07):
you know, for Lane Kiffin to move for a lateral
job to rebuild something that's a long shot. I actually
think that you have a better opportunity. This is a
little bit of a hot take, and I think this
is something you should be more worried about and more
concerned if you're a Florida Gator fan. I don't think
Lane Kiffin ends up in Gainesville. But what I do

(15:27):
see more likely to happen would be Lane Kiffin coming
after DJ Lagway once Billy Napier is fired, in taking
DJ Lagway and bringing him to Old Miss. I think
that is more likely Lagway to Old Miss than Lane
Kiffin too, Florida. I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen.
You know Lane Kiffin, He's petty, and I would not
be shocked to see him coming after your quarterback once

(15:50):
Billy Napier is out. And I just again, I don't
think there's any way Billi Napier survives this year.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
I didn't.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
I had him on a warm seat coming into the year,
but not a hot seat. And you know the schedule,
it is brutal, but I'm not going to use that
as an excuse to defend Billion Napier. As brutal as
the schedule is, you still got to play the games,
and you still got to be competitive in the games,
and so far, against two quality opponents, you have not
been competitive. Forty one to seventeen defeat against Miami. You

(16:21):
then lose at home in an SEC game against Texas
A and m who's got a first year head coach
a backup quarterback and you lose by thirteen. But really
that game was, I believe, at one point thirty three
to seven. Right, ended up thirty three to twenty, But
it was thirty three to seven by the time Florida
was scoring. Texas A and M had already given up.

(16:41):
And we're all criticized Billion Apier the most in this game.
I didn't like the way that he handled the two quarterbacks.
I don't mind him getting Dj you know, getting DJ
Lagway in the game and getting him some experience. I
just didn't like the way that he was doing the rotation.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
You know.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Graham Mertz finally had found some you know, rhythm in
the offense and led the Gators down to score their
first touchdown of the game. And then the very next
drive he brings DJ Lagway.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Out onto the field.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Well that's the one drive that And don't get me wrong,
I wanted to see Lagway play. There were times where
I'm like, okay, can we see Dj Lagway now We've
got no points, and you know, he continue to try
Graham Mertz out there. Well after the touchdown, how do
you not send Graham Mertz back out there?

Speaker 2 (17:25):
All Right?

Speaker 1 (17:25):
They found a rhythm, they scored a touchdown, they got
some confidence, keep it going, you know. They score a touchdown,
then he brings in a new quarterback, you know, and
then later on in the game, Dj Lagway leads the
offense to a touchdown. What does Billy Napier do the
very next drive, he brings Graham Mertz back in. So,
if you're going to handle your offense with two different quarterbacks,
I'm okay with it. There's been success with it in

(17:47):
some programs, but you gotta do it properly, and I
don't think Billy Napier managed it properly. If your quarterback
leads your offense to a touchdown, drive, bring them back
out for another drive with the confidence and let them
build of that. I felt like he just killed the
momentum multiple times in this football game. So that's kind
of where I'm at with both programs. Norvel his job

(18:09):
is safe. I think he deserves more opportunities. I'd like
to see him start developing Brocklyn. The dj Uyungalila experiment,
it's over, Like, let's be done with it. You cannot
force your fans to continue watching this. And then on
the other side of the things, yeah, I think Billion
Aapier's done. I'm not sure there's anything that Billion Napier
can do to save his job at this point. Let's

(18:35):
talk about some other teams in college football. Let's talk
about the Michigan Wolverines for a second, the defending national champions.
They all look good. Twenty eight to eighteen win over
Arkansas State. Now, two of the touchdowns from Arkansas State
came in garbage time. It was twenty eight to three.
That said, though, you know, that's a game where you
show me some life on offense, and really you still

(18:58):
didn't get it. I think Michigan it's got to make
a switch at quarterback. Davis Warren cool story. I understand
the story. I'm never going to criticize the kid. It's
tremendous and again, a great story. Had leukemia overcame, it
walked down at Michigan, became the starting quarterback. But you
got to give Alex Orgy a try. And I get it.
I've seen the film of Alex Georgie. He struggles to

(19:19):
throw the football, but he presents something in your offense
in the run game. You know, that makes it a
little bit more dynamic. And right now, teams that are
facing Michigan. They got eight guys in the box. They're
not worried about the past game, and they shouldn't be.
Michigan has shown they can't pass the ball at all,
and I think alex Orgy really is the only thing

(19:41):
that gives Michigan any kind of hope for the season.
They got USC this weekend, and you know, I think
that's going to be a really good game. I don't
know what the early line is on that game.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Let me check that out.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
I believe Michigan's favored, which kind of seems crazy to me.
I feel like, in Michigan his favorite, i'd probably lean
a little bit towards USC to.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Win the game.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
So here it is USC is a okay, USC is
a six and a half point favorite. That makes a
little bit more sense. So USC getting six and a
half on the road, that's a tough line. I don't
know if I'd messed with that one right off the bat.
But yeah, Michigan, you know, they don't look like the
team from a year ago, and they aren't the team

(20:26):
from a year ago. Do I think this is because
they're no longer stealing signs now? I think this is
just you know, I think this is what's happened when
you see Jim Harbaugh flirting with the NFL year in
and year out. You don't have the top recruiting classes,
and now you're seeing it. They don't have a lot
of depth. And at the running back position, you know,
everybody's aware of Donovan Edwards. Khalil Mullings is RB one.

(20:49):
He has looked like the much better runner. And I
don't want to say Donovan Edwards is overrated. You know,
he does show up in big games and he's done
great things in Michigan, but Khalil Mullings, in my opinion,
it should be RB one. So you know, right now
at the coaching staff in Michigan, I don't love the
play calling from Kurt Campbell, the offensive coordinator, and I
just you know, I questioned the personnel that they're putting

(21:10):
out onto the field. I think some changes need to
be made. Texas quin yours. He went down arch immediately,
threw a touchdown in that game and also ran for one,
so he had four touchdowns in total, three of them passing.
And the reason I know this was after every Texas drive,
whether they scored or punt, I believe it was ESPN.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
ESPN will put up a graphic. It was ESPN.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
They put up a graphic and it would say Arch
Manning four total touchdowns, three passing, and it's like, all right,
they're punting right now. They were doing everything that It
was kind of obnoxious. I get why they were doing
it because Arch does bring in viewers. Even I turned
Kentucky and Georgia off for a second to take a
look at this football game to see Arch. But it
was like it was like over the top Love, right,
it was like Chris Collins, We're talking about Patrick Mahomes

(21:56):
and they just continue to have the graphic on the
end of like like texts. Like I said, Texas would
be punting, but at the bottom of the TV, it's
telling me how many touchdowns Arch has. And I just
thought it was I thought it was a little bit weird,
but you know, I get why they were advertising it,
but it was definitely it's definitely over the top Manning Love,
Let's say that. But Arch Manning looked good. And you know,

(22:18):
when Texas played Michigan a couple of weeks ago, Texas
had the two best quarterbacks you know, on the field
that day, their starter in their backup. Quinn Yours is
going to be weak to week. The injury wasn't serious.
He should be back. Has there ever been a program
where a team has had a heisman favorite quarterback like
Quinn yours? Yet they're more excited about the backup. Pretty

(22:39):
privileged and spoiled to be a Texas fan right now.
A little bit of a scare. The number one team
almost went down. In fact, they did fall in the
AP rankings to number two. Talking about Georgia, they barely
beat Kentucky thirteen to twelve, and I'm gonna put that
game on Mark Stoops at the end if you watch
this football game again. Thirteen twelve, Kentucky's got the ball

(23:03):
at midfield. I believe what was there about a minute
and a half left in the game. There might have
been even actually more time than that. It might have
been a little over two minutes. I don't remember what
the exact time it was near the end of the game.
I thought it was like a minute and a half left.
Kentucky's at midfield and they got all three timeouts, so

(23:24):
rather than going for it, they punted the football and
Mark Stoops, you cannot play scared when you got the
number one team in the country on the ropes, you
had an opportunity to take out the number one team
in college football. You can't play conservative. Whether there was
a minute and a half to go two and a

(23:44):
half minutes. Again, I don't have the exact time in
front of me. You cannot punt the football to the
number one offense in college football, the Georgia Bulldogs, and
expect to get the football back. The numbers are not
in your favor. And that was the game that he played.
He punted the ball away and he never got it back.

(24:04):
So I thought, I thought he played that wrong. And look,
I don't I don't want to criticize Mark Stoops. I
think he's a hell of a coach. What he's done
at Kentucky is is really great. He could be a
candidate for the Florida job. I don't know, if you know.
Gator fans like to hear that. I know they want
Lane Kiffin, but I think Stoop's probably I would say
a little bit more, Uh, what's the word I'm looking for?

(24:27):
Reasonable request? But Stoops lost that game for Kentucky. I thought,
I don't want to say he lost it for him,
because there's no saying that they would have got the
first down. But I thought he got conservative too, Q,
and you just you can't do that with Georgia again.
When you got the number one team on the ropes
in Georgia and you have an opportunity fourth down, you
gotta go for it with that much time. I don't

(24:47):
care if you had all three of your timeouts, what
are your odds of stopping Georgia from getting a first down?

Speaker 2 (24:51):
They're not good.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
And you never got the ball back. It was over,
But Kentucky kept into that game. You know, I definitely
I thought the way the fourth quarter would go down,
and I definitely looked at the live line bet. You know,
Georgia minus four and a half. I thought Georgia was
gonna do exactly what Alabama did a week and go

(25:13):
to USF. I thought they were gonna light them up
in the fourth. I'm glad I didn't.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Bet.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
I almost did it because it felt like free money,
but I wanted to go old school in this game.
I wanted to root for the underdog and I didn't
want to root for Georgia and my money, so I
stayed off it. Root it for Kentucky the whole time
only to be let down at the end, because who
doesn't want to see the number one team go down always?
But yeah, I put that one on Mark Stoops. You

(25:39):
can't do that in that situation. Just overall awful situation
to punt the football and give the ball to Georgia
and then never get it back. Nick Picks did all
right this weekend. We went one game over five hundred.
It was our worst week since we've been betting on
college football. I think we went five and four. It's

(26:01):
not bad, you know, we put a little bit of
money in our pocket, but not great. I'll definitely have
Nicks Picks out for you again this week shirt. Make
sure you follow me on social media. I am Nick Wise,
I am Nick Wize. Let me pull up the scoreboard
from this weekend just to see if I missed anything.
How about Kansas State's performance over Arizona. I mean they
just dominated him. Avery Johnson really good quarterback for Kansas State.

(26:25):
Definitely going to be a contender in the Big Twelve
this year. They could be a team that makes a run,
wins that division and gets into the playoff. I can
absolutely see that. Texas just dominant over UTSA. I thought
UTSA would be able to cover that spread. It wasn't
a game that I played, but I thought they'd be
able to cover that spread, being thirty five Texas coming
off of the win at Michigan and UTSA just hasn't.

(26:49):
They didn't get up for the game, and UTSA just
they're not the same anymore. You know, they don't have
a quarterback who's been there for seven years anymore.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
And it shows.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Alabama dominated was onsin forty two to ten this weekend.
The Big Ten just didn't look good in that Wisconsin
lost their quarterback. He got injured when out got carted
off the field. Wisconsin just things aren't going good for
them this year. That was their first loss. But they
just don't look like the same Wisconsin team. They're trying

(27:18):
to do different things than what you know. It's in
the DNA of Wisconsin and so far it has not
worked out for them. Jalen Milroe through for one hundred
ninety six yards and three touchdowns. Wake Forest continue betting
on them to cover the spread because no matter what
the spread is, they continue to cover it. You know,
lan Keimfany likes to run up points. Missouri and Boston
College great game Boston Colleges is not bad. They did

(27:41):
cover the spread. They lose twenty seven to twenty one.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Though.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
On the road in the SEC. Tennessee is a team
that everybody is looking at right now. Tennessee is you know,
they won Kent State seventy one and nothing again, it's
just Kent State. It's not impressive when Ken State's one
of the worst teams in college full but at the
end of the day, seventy one other And that's that's
what good teams do, is they they demoralize their softer opponents. Oregon,

(28:10):
they got the win in the Civil War. I'm so
happy that they kept this game on the schedule, Oregon
in Oregon State, and I think week three they need
to do this going forward because so much has changed
in college football and some rivalries have gone away. I'd
like to make Week three the rivalry weekend of former
conference you know rivals. So we'd have Oregon and Oregon State,

(28:31):
which we had Oregon won forty nine to fourteen, Washington
and Washington State in the Apple Cup, which we had
this weekend. Washington State. I bet you they loved walking
away with that one, beating Washington after Washington left them
out in.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
The pack two. And you know, I would like to see.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Oklahoma State and Oklahoma get the rivalry back together. You know,
no reason that those two shouldn't be playing each other
every single year, Like, what are we doing? Magan happened
they'd have them for college football. We're getting rid of
too many great traditions. You also said Utah and Utah
State play over the weekend. You know, in state rival

(29:07):
obviously never really competitive, but it was a thirty eight
twenty one game between Utah and Utah State. But let's
make Week three this the in state rivals and bring
back a right Like, I don't like that we're killing
off rivalries, and the Battle of Bedlam is one that
needs to come back, so let's get that back on
the schedule. There's no reason Oklahoma and Oklahoma State couldn't

(29:27):
play each other. You know, Oklahoma State played Tulsa this weekend.
They won forty five to ten. Nobody cares. Oklahoma State
played Tulsa. Oklahoma played Tulane, they won thirty four to nineteen.
Nobody cares. Why not play each other? Notre Dame with
the bounce back, Notre Dame was now messing around and
Does that change your opinion on Notre Dame? Should they
still be eliminated from the playoff after the loss to

(29:49):
Northern Illinois? Well, again, I think a lot of their
outcome of their season and what we viewed Notre Dame
as is what can Northern Illinois do? They got a
game against NC State. Can Northern Illinois beat another power
for school? You know you want to see that if
you're Notre Dame. But man, they came out and that
was a seven and a half points spread against Purdue.
They won sixty six to seven and it was never closed.

(30:10):
It was fourteen to nothing after the first quarter, and
then Notre Dame put twenty eight more points on the
board in the second quarter, which made it forty two
to nothing at halftime. That game never in jeopardy. So
Notre Dame looks like they bounce back. That's a really
good sign for, you know, a football team that has
what they think, all of their goals and aspirations still

(30:30):
in front of them. Only time will tell. Nebraska gets
another victory with Dylan Roola. They are ranked, they're three
to zero for the first time in a long time,
and they're just three games away from getting to six wins,
which will be their first bowl game since twenty sixteen.
I think it's going to happen. Florida State we talked about.
They got upset by Memphis n C State. They beat

(30:52):
Louisiana Tech at home thirty to twenty. I'm trying to
see if there was any other I feel like we've
got everything out as far as all of the big
The backyard brawl was good West Virginia with a comeback
win or I'm sorry, Pittsburgh will a comeback win to
beat West Virginia. They're three and zero now on the season.
Let's see Arkansas UAB. That was my play of the weekend.

(31:17):
I gave that pick out on the air. I said
to play the over. The over hit North Carolina beat
North Carolina Central.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
I'm just again, I'm just.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Kind of running down the scoreboard here seeing if I
missed anything in my notes that really is worthy to
be talked about. How about Toledo going into Mississippi State.
I get it, Mississippi State not a premier SEC program,
But Toledo going down into an SEC environment and not
just winning, but dominating forty one to seventeen. Mississippi State

(31:50):
is in a bad, bad place right now. You know
what I did miss it? Colorado and Colorado State did
play this weekend. Colorado State. You know, they kind of
ran their miles a lot before that game, doing some interviews,
you know, talking about the game from a year before,
really disrespecting Colorado, and Colorado just whacked.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
Him twenty eight to nine.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
After the game, the quarterback for Colorado State tried to
shake Shaduor Sanders's hand. Shadoor basically was like, nah, I
don't f with you. We ain't doing this and didn't
shake his hand, which I get it. If you're Shuduar Sanders,
you don't shake his hand. He talked a lot of
crap about you. But I think you got to grow up.
People say things before the games and they get humbled.

(32:29):
I think you should have given him the opportunity to
speak to you. Maybe he apologizes, shakes your hand. I
don't think that you just gotta be quick to say, nah,
I don't.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
F with you. You know, I think he deserved you.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
To shake his hand and accept his apology, if that's
where he was going. Dion Sanders, I know, spoke about
it later on. He put it out on Twitter. You know,
basically defending Shadoor Sanders and why he didn't shake his hand.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
I don't know. I think sportsmanship. I think you got
to you gotta get over the trash talk.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
After the end of the game, you shake each other's
hands and you hear what the guy has to say,
despite him maybe disrespecting you beforehand. UCF had a huge
comeback over TCU. They went thirty five thirty four. They
were down twenty eight to seven at one point in
that football game Cal and San Diego State. The only
reason I'm bringing up this game is because Cal their

(33:19):
fans had I don't know exactly what they had. They
had like some cards in the stands. I don't know
where the cards came from or what they were for,
but they kept throwing them onto the field and Cal
was getting penalized at home. They had two fifteen yard
penalties against him because the fans were throwing things out
out of the football field. The coach for Cal actually
got on the microphone, the referees microphone, and had to say, hey,

(33:42):
Cal fans, stop throwing cards out onto the field. I've
never seen anything like that before, and that is just
one more reason to love college football, because those things
only happened in college football. And that's going to wrap
up this edition of the podcast. We covered week three
in college football. I gave you my stance on whether
or I not think link Kiffin is a possibility for
the Gators.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
I do not.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
