show Saturday mornings nine to eleven AM on the free
iHeartRadio app. Thank you so much for checking this out
wherever you are. Make sure you subscribe that way you
get an update every time I update the podcast. Make
(00:30):
sure you're following the page so been posted up. Had
surgery on my eardrum earlier this week and great excuse
to not do anything and watch college football. So we'll
talk a lot about what I saw over the last
few days as we wrap up week number one USC
LSU that is tonight. I have a play in this
game if you're looking to bet on it, and Boston
(00:51):
College and Florida State will wrap us up tomorrow night
in week one and before week one is even completely over.
And in the books, I think we have a coach
that is on a really, really hot I.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Didn't think he was on a hot seat going into yesterday.
I thought it was it was luke warm.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Maybe you know, according to the fan base, but not
the actual university. But now I think he's on the
radar and the seat got a little hotter. We'll talk
about that on the show.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Let's lead off with Thursday night.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
That's where we're gonna start because that's when Week one began,
back with uh, you know Colorado Colorado must see TV.
Shador Sanders a fun watch and you know Travis Hunter
in a I mean an unbelievable football player. If you
missed that game on Thursday night, Travis Hunter is going
(01:35):
to be in talks for the Heisman Trophy all season long,
whether this team is winning or not, because what he's
doing is absolutely incredibly had seven catches for one hundred
and thirty two yards in three touchdowns. He also played
on defense. He pretty much played every single snap of
the game. You haven't seen anyone do what he's doing
since Charles Woodson. So I expect him, whether this team's
(01:57):
winning or not, his name's gonna be mentioned for Heisman Trophy.
And I think it's it's absolutely reasonable. Shaduor Sanders went
twenty six to thirty four, had four hundred and forty
five yards, four touchdowns, in an interception. But outside of
these two players alone. Colorado not a lot going for him.
The defense isn't good. I would continue to if Colorado's
(02:18):
laying points, I continue to take the other points in
the team because it seems to work out more often
than not. That was a pretty easy bet the other night,
taking North Dakota State and the ten and a half points.
Colorado's defense not very good. They're gonna take on a
pretty good or look to be good offense in Nebraska
(02:38):
on week number two.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
That's gonna be a really fun game.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
I would say the spread's probably gonna be somewhere around
Nebraska laying seven points. I like Nebraska in that game.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
My early leit. I'm not locking it in right now.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
I'm not saying go bet out it right this minute,
but definitely game we're gonna keep our eye on in
week two. That's gonna be a fun one. Aiden Chiles
in Michigan State. I thought Aiden Chiles put a lot
of extra pressure on himself. This game was on Friday night.
Not a great slate of games on Friday night, but
Aiden Chiles he had my attention because earlier in the week.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
He decided to do a press conference.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
I don't know if it was a press conference or
he was in the locker room, but he spoke to
the media, and I thought he added a lot of
unnecessary pressure on himself. He told the be writers, if
you bet the over, take the over. But what did
he mean take the over on We assume he meant
on the score of the game, which I believe was
forty four and a half forty six. Now if he
(03:37):
meant take the over on his interceptions, which was point five,
well you would have won the bet had you taken
the over, because he threw two of them. He was
ten for twenty four, one hundred and fourteen yards. He
didn't throw any touchdowns. His QBR was thirty point seven
in Michigan State put up only sixteen points on FAU.
They do get the win, it wasn't pretty. Jonathan Smith
(03:57):
gets the win in his first game coming over from
war State, which is where Aiden Chiles also came in from.
And I think he came into this game with just
a little too much confidence. You know, it was his
first start in college football. Yes, he's highly recruited, highly touted,
a four star. A lot of good things about the kid,
but I think he got a little bit ahead of himself.
You know, telling people to bet the over. I'm hoping
(04:19):
that this is a less because I do think he
is well. I don't think he is a big part
of Michigan State trying to turn it around. So aiden
Child's unnecessary pressure. Get to work, kid, you know, don't
put out clips like that into the media, right at
least not yet, at least until you know you can
back it up. You're not there yet, your team is
not there yet. So that's what I saw Thursday, and
(04:42):
that's what I saw Friday before the game's kicked off. Saturday,
I saw the NCAA is going to block Oklahoma State
from using the QR codes on their helmets. Now, if
you don't know about this, look, I thought it was
a stupid idea. I'll say that Oklahoma State was gonna
have QR codes on the back of their helmets. So
you know, essentially, if the helmet's on TV, somebody could
(05:03):
scan it with their phone. It takes them to their
NIL website, you could donate money to the NIL collective.
First off, it's going to be so small on the helmet.
I don't know how you were ever going to see
this on TV. I don't think anybody was actually going
to pick up their phone and be like, oh my god,
I gotta snap this photo. I gotta donate to Oklahoma
State right now. That was such a great run by
Ali Gordon. I don't think that was going to happen.
(05:25):
But regardless, the NCAA is shutting it down. The NCAA
looks at it as an advertisement and that's not part
of the agreement. So yeah, the NCAA just continues to
come in, bully kids and be this organization that nobody likes. Again,
do I think it was going to make a difference
for their nil collective. No, But it's the principle of
(05:46):
all of it. Like the nc DOUBLEA just always has
to come in and they got to just you know,
raise their voice.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Let everybody hey, we're still here. We come up with
the dumb rules.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
We're a horrible government that's very one sided, and it's
our way or the highway, but we will do everything
we can to make sure you kids don't make money.
Let's talk about the most impressive teams that I saw.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Let's go with number three. There were three teams that
I thought were very impressive. Notre Dame looked great last night, Actually,
I take that back. They should look I don't want
to say they look great. They handled the environment they
were going into, and they looked good. They definitely looked good.
They went into Kyle Field, which is probably the most
ruckeous environment they're going to play in all year long,
(06:38):
and they stole the victory. They were the underdog. Yes
they were the lower or yes they are a higher
ranked team, but they were the underdog going in.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
It was minus three points.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Notre Dame goes in there, they get a victory, and
they're gonna be favored in every single game that they
play from here on out. Now, maybe this is an overreaction.
I think Notre Dame is the first team to clinch
a playoff spot in week number one. Now, am I
overreacting to that? Not necessarily look big brand. You know
(07:08):
they're gonna be favored by the committee, But when you
look at their schedule, that was their toughest opponent last night.
They're gonna be favored the rest of the way. They've
got Northern Illinois next week, Perdue Miami, Ohio. I see
these all his wins. End of the month, Louisville, that'll
be a tough game, But it's at home Stanford, They're
(07:29):
gonna be favored. Georgia Tech looked pretty good in Week one.
Are they gonna continue to play that well throughout the season.
I don't expect Notre Dame to lose to Georgia Tech.
That it dam will then take on Navy. I see
a win there. Florida State gonna be their toughest battle.
They get that at home. But how good is Florida State?
Dj uyung Lalla in week zero didn't look good. He
looked like dj ueyungala La. It's crazy to think he
(07:51):
was the five star quarterback, number one kid in the class,
and c. J. Stroud was the number two quarterback of
the class. And dj Ouyungala has not looked like the
number one quarterback since he came into the college game.
So I don't expect Florida State to just turn it around.
I don't think it was a fluke that they lost
to Georgia Tech. And I'm not taking any credit away
(08:13):
from Georgia Tech. I just think that this is what
happens when you're Mike Norval and you rely on the
portal and you don't recruit your own players, and you
don't develop your own players. You're using other players other
coaches developed. Sometimes it works. Last year thirteen to er
in the regular season. This year, uh, not off to
(08:33):
as grade of a start. I mean, last year you
hit the jackpot in the portal, you know, bringing in
guys like Keon Coleman, you know, getting guys like Jared Verse.
This year they add decent talent from the portal. Just
hasn't happened to show that it's you know, it's all
coming together on the field just yet, you know. And
then notreable to take on Virginia Army and then they're
(08:55):
gonna have USC. What's USC gonna be? We know they
are gonna be good on off? Are they good on defense?
So I think Notre Dame. You know, they're one of
my top three teams that I'm most impressed with. I'm
not saying their top three team in the country, but
they were one of the top three teams that I
was impressed with. Maybe a bit of an overreaction, but
I think they got themselves into the playoff last night,
(09:16):
or at least maybe the best path to the playoff
of any team in college football. Georgia is Georgia that
great or has Clemson football officially dropped a tier. I
think a little bit of both. We know Georgia's deep.
We expected them to or at least I expected them
to roll over Clemson. Everybody in the world was on
Clemson yesterday. That's usually a pretty good sign that a
(09:40):
team is going to get rolled over when everybody thinks
they're going to cover. Clemson didn't even come close to
covering the offensive Clemson couldn't even get a touchdown. Kid
club Nick not very good. Him and dj Yu yungal
A two quarterbacks I wanted to see more out of
to start the season. So far, they are exactly who
I thought they were. But I do think it's safe
(10:02):
to say that Clemson has dropped a tier in college football.
Dabosweeney refuses to get with the times. He doesn't use
the transfer portal. Not a fan of nil and Clemson's
gonna suffer because of it. And the most impressive team
over the weekend, no question, was the Miami Hurricanes. What
they did to the Gators. It was impressive, very impressive.
(10:28):
And look, do I think Florida is this incredible team
that I expected it to be a super close game. Look,
I don't think Florida is an amazing team, but I
didn't think they were as bad as what they were
on Saturday. I think Miami looked good. Cam Ward looked
like he was worth every bit of the money he
made in the off season. Whatever Miami paid him to
come in and be part of their team, well worth it.
(10:52):
I have never seen a quarterback look so comfortable in
his first game with a new team the way cam
Ward looked yesterday. I mean, whether he was being rushed
from his blind side, whether he had guys in his face,
or he rolled out, or he was sitting comfortably in
the pocket, he was always comfortable. He was cool, he
was calm, collective. Made a couple throws you know where
I thought, Hey, you don't got to do that. You
(11:14):
got some talent on this team. You're not at Washington
State anymore. You don't have to make these throws across
your body like you were once doing, because you can
live to play another down.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
But I saw some comparisons in him.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Now, don't take this the wrong way, not saying he's
good as good as any of these guys, but I
saw some crossbody throws that looked like Mahomes. I saw
some runs that looked like Lamar. There were some side
arm throws that looked like Matthew Stafford. His side arm
throw is incredible. But after so far of what we've
seen in college football, cam Ward is the best football
at least what I've seen so far, the best quarterback
(11:49):
in college football. I understand Jackson Dart had like six
hundred yards yesterday at halftime.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
That doesn't count.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
I think they were playing what Furman where they won
seventy two or seventy five to nothing. That wasn't real stats.
Cam Ward, what he did to Florida, that was real.
That was an incredible performance. Miami Hurricanes my most impressive
team from week number one thus far. Yes, we have
two more games to go, but Miami and cam Ward
(12:15):
my most impressive team. And I just felt like Miami
had a completely different swagger about them. It felt different
when you saw them on the field, and Miami is
officially must see college football. They're gonna be a fun
team to watch. And that's another team a long wind,
Notre Dame. I think they've got a really clear path
(12:35):
to the college football Playoff. I had them winning the
ACC before the season started. I feel even more comfortable
about that after Week number one and what they did
to the Gators, they go into Gainesville and they just
absolutely rolled to a one to h start on their season. Now,
let's talk about the most disappointing teams about Texas Tech.
I don't think a lot of you watched this game
last night, but Texas Tech it took over time to
(12:57):
be Abbling Christian fifty two to five fifty one. Let's
compare these two schools. Abilene Christian six two hundred and
nineteen students. They played in the same conference as Grand
Canyon University. You've heard of them, right, You've seen them
in the March Madness Tournament. They shoot a lot of threes.
Texas Tech has forty one thousand students. Basically, this is
(13:19):
like Home Depot competing against Joe's local hardware store in
a fistfight. Home Depot is gonna win every time, right,
Local Joe, He's never going to stand a chance.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Well, Local Joe.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Last night they took the punch and they punched right
back against Texas A and m Or I'm sorry Texas
Tech and Texas Tech. They escaped what could have been
an absolute disaster and the biggest upset on the weekend
how about Oregon organ struggled with Idaho. Maybe they were
looking ahead next week to the Civil War. You got
a new quarterback, Dylan Gabriel coming in. I'm not gonna
(13:50):
hold it too much against him. I still think Oregon
is gonna be a really good team. But that was
a three point game late in the fourth quarter against
idoh Who would have thought that. You know, with all
of the hype that Oregans received this offseason they move
into the Big Ten, I still expect them to be
in the Big Ten championship game against Ohio State. I
do have Ohio State winning the Big Ten, but I
(14:11):
do think Oregon is going to be that team that
challenges him the most. Let's look at another Big Ten
team that I thought was definitely disappointing yesterday, and that's
the defending champs, the Michigan Wolverines. The defense looked great
for the most part. You know, Will Johnson sealed it
with a pick six, but he look he struggled at
times in the game as well.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
He didn't look his best.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
And I'd love to say, well, they're just saving the
playbook for Texas, but guys, this Michigan team does not
have a quarterback and this team is going to regret
not going into the portal and making a move for
a quarterback. The fact that they couldn't go into the
portal and get anybody is surprising as the defending national champion.
(14:56):
But look, if they're not willing to spend money, they're
not going to get guys like cam Ward. But yesterday,
watching the quarterback play for Michigan, cam wod looked like
a guy that's worth five million dollars to them. Because
I think it's gonna be a long year for Michigan.
You know, I looked at them possibly going nine to
three if this offense doesn't turn it around with Davis Warren,
(15:16):
I don't know if I see nine and three. They
got Texas next weekend. I don't know how they have
the firepower to keep up with the Texas offense. You know,
Alex Orgi we thought was going to be the starter
all year long. I'm watching the game, I'm like, let
me see more of Orgy. He comes in for a
nice couple solid runs. He did throw a touchdown. It
was a three yard touchdown. I could have thrown that one.
(15:37):
He had another roll out where he threw it right
into the dirt and that was what made me go Okay,
that's why he's not the starter. This kid can't throw.
So the Michigan offense definitely disappointing. I think they're going
to struggle with Texas, Ohio State, Oregon gonna be a challenge.
I think USC gonna be a challenge for them as well,
because US He's got a much better offense now Michigan's
got a much better defense. It should be a fun,
(15:58):
entertaining game regardless, and it's gonna be great to see
USC at the Big House. But Michigan didn't look didn't
look very good. And this has nothing to do with
Connor Stallions no longer being part of the team. It
has everything to do with what eighteen I think they
got a They were going for eighteen guys to get
drafted in the NFL. I think eleven or thirteen of
(16:20):
them are on an NFL active roster. That's why, guys,
it's not because Connor Stallions has gone. It's because all
the talent they lost, they still got plenty of talent
on the defensive side. Offense, they got Colson Lovelin is
Donovan Edwards, one of the most overrated players in College Football.
He's on the cover of College Football twenty five. I
think he's like a ninety something in the game. Not
(16:40):
to use player ratings to tell you how good somebody is,
but Donovan Edwards was hyped up to have, you know,
this big year. It's his year. He's ridden in the
back seat to Blake Corham. He was buying Blake Corum
and Dwayne Haskins and now it's supposed to be his
show and Khalil Mullings, I'll perform me yesterday. Khalil Mullings
gives me a Anthony Thomas vibes for the Michigan Wolverinee.
(17:02):
Just a big power runner who if you're in his way,
is going to run you over. But I think Khalil
Khalil Mullings was the best running back for Michigan, and
I don't even think it was any close, anywhere close.
I think Khalil Mullings is RB one right now for Michigan.
So those are my most disappointing and most impressive teams
quick recap. Most impressive Miami, followed by Georgia and Notre
(17:26):
Dame getting that big win on the road against Texas.
A and Eman my most disappointing teams Texas Tech for
nearly losing to Alba Line Christian, the Gators.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Billy Napier. Oh, I forgot to get to the Gators. Yeah,
the Gators one of my most disappointing teams.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
For me going into the season, it wasn't how many
games can Billy Napier win to keep his job, It's
how does he look in the games that they lose.
I had him winning five games. I'm not going to
overreact to the performance yesterday. I'm not sure how they
get to five games. I mean, the schedule is daunting
and I was never gonna judge Florida by their schedule
in their wins and losses. Again, for me, it was
(18:05):
all about how do the Gators look in these games?
Are they close games? Do they look good losing? They
did not look good losing yesterday. I think it's gonna
be a long year in Gainesville. If that's the team
that we're gonna see. All of the problems Billy Napier
had in year number one and year number two, they're
still here in year number three. Billy Napier has yet
(18:26):
to figure out how to turn it around, and Florida
was by far the most disappointing team of the entire
day outside of Texas Tech, who was playing the equivalent
to a high school team and nearly lost. But Billy
Napier has officially stepped down to the hot seat. Look,
I think some fans were already calling for his job,
(18:47):
already thought he was on the hot seat. I did
not think so. I didn't think his job was in
jeopardy if he had a losing record this year. I
still expect to see him back next year. But now
now he's on the radar, he got a little hotter
because although they lost, which I expected them to against
the Hurricanes, it's the way they lost and how they
(19:08):
looked in that loss. It was horrible. It could not
have gone any worse than it did for Billy Napier.
In the Florida Gators, the defense had no answers for
cam Ward. They were gashed once again. Miami controlled the
line of scrimmage on both sides of the football, and
Billy Napier is our first coach After Week one, I'm
(19:30):
a hot seat. And that's not an overreaction to Week
number one. That's how bad the Florida Gators looked. They
got to get it together. So yeah, Michigan, Oregon, Florida,
Texas Tech. My most disappointing teams, most impressive, Miami, Georgia,
Notre Dame.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
I thought the Gators were gonna look a lot better
than what we saw yesterday.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
That's a team that looks like it might struggle to
hang with UCF who went out and got kJ Jefferson
in the portal. I think kJ Jefferson's gonna have a
pretty big year in the Big twelve coming over from Arkansas.
But yeah, the seat got hot for Billy Napier and
(20:16):
it's going to be a long year for the Gators now.
The one positive thing DJ Lagway, he looked good. You
can hang your head on that, right. That's gonna keep
you interested in games throughout the year. But that's probably
all you got if this is the team that we're
gonna see week in and week out.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Wasn't fun.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
They made Miami look really good, and look, I think
Miami is really good and I think Florida just actually looked.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
That bad though. Knicks picks yesterday.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
If you follow me on social media, I give out
all my picks before the game's kickoff. Yesterday's picks I
gave out one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight games,
Penn State minus seven one, Colorado State plus thirty five
lost Eastern Michigan plus three.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
That was a win.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Georgia Southern plus thirteen. On the back door cover, we
got that one baby Old Dominion plus twenty one. That
was an easy cover against South Carolina, Miami money line
and Notre Dame, Texas A and M under all wins.
We are currently sitting at seven and one with one
bet to go tonight, usc LSU take the over. I
got it at sixty four. I have seen in some
(21:26):
places it's come down to sixty three and a half.
I like the over in that game tonight. Can we
go eight and one to start off the season with
Knicks picks again, usc LSU over tonight. If you want
all of Knicks picks, make sure you are following me
on social media. It is I am Nick Wise, I
am Nick Wize. That is where you can find me
(21:51):
on Twitter. That is where you can find me on Instagram.
All of my picks will be out before the games
on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
We're off to a good store.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
You know what a pick? I didn't even there was
a couple of picks I didn't even get out there
that I played as well. I played Georgia, thought that
was an easy cover, and hit my first parlay of
the year yesterday. Again, I didn't give these picks out.
These were more of just, hey, let's screw it around.
I don't feel that comfortable with them, but let's let's
throw it out there and see what sticks. And I
ended up hitting a three leg parlay last night. I'm
(22:23):
sorry it was a four leg parlay last night. It
was Eastern Michigan Nebraska minus twenty seven and a half,
Miami money line and under in the Texas A and
m Notre Dame game. So cool little parlay there to
get my season going. It was fun yesterday. It felt
good to be betting again. I can't wait to do
it again next week. Actually, what do we got? We
(22:43):
don't even got to wait till next week. We're gonna
do it tonight, and then we got NFL football on Thursday,
NFL football on Friday, more college football Saturday, NFL Week one.
We'll be back in action on Sunday, and then Monday.
We got a great week ahead of us. I cannot
