Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Season Tickets podcast. My name is Nick Wise.
It is September fifth, it is a Thursday. It is
opening day in the NFL. What a great day it is.
My name is Nick Wise. These are the cheapest season
tickets you're ever gonna get. This show absolutely free. Make
sure you are subscribed on iHeartRadio and Apple podcasts. You

(00:22):
might think you're subscribed, you're probably not. But make sure
you do that. That way, you know every time I
upload content, you'll know when and where to get it.
We had listeners on the last show in Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, Washington.
We're making our way out west. We had listeners in Florida, Georgia,
and also in Texas. Thank you guys so much for
listening to the podcast, and tell your friends about it.

(00:44):
If you liked it, all right, let's spread the word.
Let's get even more ears on this thing. Eventually we'll
get eyes on it too. I am going to go
to the YouTube rout. I just haven't gotten there yet.
I want to get going with just the audio proportion first,
and then down the road we'll add the aspect to it.
Today's show we're gonna talk about the games. I'm looking
forward to this weekend. We'll talk NFL, we'll talk college

(01:08):
I'll give you some betting picks that I'm leaning as
of right now. Tomorrow I'll probably put out another episode
that will be more of what we like to call
knicks picks. We'll get more in depth with the picks,
so we'll do that probably more on tomorrow's podcast. But
today I want to start with We'll start with the
NFL because we've talked so much college football on the

(01:31):
previous episodes. We haven't gotten to a lot of NFL
because the games haven't taken place yet. And I'm always
a bigger fan of talking about games that have happened,
more so than games that are coming up. But today
we're going to talk about games coming up. So let's
start with the Ravens and Chiefs tonight. I'm definitely looking
forward to this one right, first game of the year
Thursday night, super Bowl Champs hosting the Ravens, a team

(01:52):
that will be in Super Bowl contention and probably the
team that is favored to play the Chiefs in the
AFC Championship Game once again. They met last year in
the AFC Championship Game. Obviously, the Chiefs won on their
way to their second Super Bowl in a row. You know,
last year, the Chiefs had the home opener against the
Detroit Lions and they lost that game. And that's a

(02:14):
good reminder to everybody, no matter who you're a team
or who you're a fan of, don't overreact to Week
one and the results that your team puts out onto
the field. Because maybe they do lose Week one, it's okay,
all right, there's going to be seventeen more weeks after
that and everything will be okay. Just look at the
Chiefs last year. They started off zero to one, they
went on to win the Super Bowl, and it was

(02:36):
really a Chiefs team that none of us thought was
going to win the Super Bowl for the most part.
You know, I think a lot of people like to
credit Patrick Mahomes, and that's fair. He's the best quarterback
in the National Football League. And they don't win the
Super Bowl without Patrick Mahomes. But that defense last year
played a big part in the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl.
Now Lagerius need no longer there, So it'll be interesting

(02:58):
to see if the Chiefs still have the defense they
had a year ago. Obviously, when you lose a guy
like Lugerius need a pro bowler, all pro, one of
the best in the game. He moves on to Tennessee.
That's definitely a big hole to fill. But I have
all the faith in the world in the Chiefs. You
know what I'm watching for out of the Chiefs this season?
Travis Kelcey. Is he going to be that guy that

(03:20):
he was at the end of last year or is
he going to be the guy that he was in
the beginning of that You remember there was a point
in time last year where it looked like Travis kelce
was pretty much done right, Like there was a I
hate to bring this up, there was a before Taylor
Travis and an after Taylor Travis, and it's like he
got much better. And now there's rumors they're breaking up
on September twenty eighth. If you haven't heard about that,

(03:43):
and I'm not going to go too deep into this,
there are some stuff that leaked down the Internet from
Travis Kelsey's publicist company Media Relation at PR company. Basically
it looked like some sort of contract of when they
were going to announce the date of the breakup, how
they were going to handle the media all of this.
They are going to break up. Are we going to
have old Travis back where he looks old and he

(04:03):
doesn't look like he could play the game anymore. I
hope not, because I actually drafted him in fantasy football
this year. I never draft tight ends very high. I'm
always that guy that has the worst tight end in
the league. I'm usually streaming them. This year I went
with Kelsey, So I'm hoping that he's still good for
selfish reasons, you know. Speaking on the Taylor Swift front,

(04:25):
the NFL getting a lot of taking a lot of
heat from the fan base. They put out a hype
video the other day. It was twenty nine seconds long.
And see, the Taylor Swift stuff doesn't bother me, but
it does bother a lot of NFL fans. And here's
what I'll say to it, don't let it ruin your day.
Is Taylor and Travis thrown in our face everywhere in
the media no matter what they do, and can be annoying, yes,

(04:47):
but when you see this stuff on social media, if
you are annoyed by it, don't comment on it because
when he comment on it, you're just gonna see more
of it. Because the algorithm with social media goes oh.
He commented on this. He interacted with this post. He
must want more information just like this, and then they're
gonna keep feeding it to you. But the NFL put
out this hype video and it had again Taylor Swift

(05:08):
featured in the video five times in twenty nine seconds.
I get it. You want to use that video to
promote it to you know, maybe the fans that you
don't already have. The audience you don't already have, which
is a lot of the Swifties, and you know that
that audience you don't have, they're gonna love that hype video.
And the NFL knows the audience they do have. They
might hate that video, but you're not gonna leave, right,

(05:31):
None of us are leaving the NFL. The NFL is
an organization. I'm not a huge fan of, right. I
don't like a lot of the things they do, but
I'm never gonna not watch. They have me. They have
all my money. I have Amazon Prime, I've got YouTube
TV in the Sunday Ticket like, I've got literally everywhere
I can spend money on the NFL, I do it.

(05:51):
You know what I tried not to do. I try
not to spend too much money on NFL gear because
I'm like, I got to hold back somewhere. So obviously
I pay for all the viewing experiences, but I try
to boycott the gear just a little bit to stay,
you know, true to my roots, as you say. But
a lot of people upset about the video because again,

(06:12):
Taylor Swift in it five times twenty nine seconds long.
Patrick Mahomes was in at one time. Two guys that
were not in the video are NFL superstars. One of
them you might not consider a superstar. You might say, well,
he's on a great team. Everybody is successful in that system.
Kyle Shanahan's offense is incredible. Not everybody is successful in
that system, Trey Lance, right, But Brock Ferdy, regardless of

(06:36):
what you think of him, he is a big name
and a star in the league. He is a quarterback,
one of two who played in the super Bowl last year,
so yeah, you probably should put him in the hype video.
And then the other one was Joe Burrow. How do
you not have Joe Burrow in your hype video? And
I get it. You could be like, well, Joe Burrow
was hurt last year, that's fair. But the video opens

(06:56):
up with Aaron Rodgers running out of the field with
the American flag also hurt last year. That was actually
Aaron Rodgers' best highlight. It was him running out onto
the field. So people upset about that video. I'm not
worried about it, but you know, I thought it was
something to bring up. Now. I don't have the Chiefs
three beeating this year. If they do so, they would
be the first team to ever do it. I do

(07:17):
have them in the Super Bowl. I think they're going
to win the AFC, but I don't have them winning it.
I'll reveal you know, if you didn't hear our prediction
show on my radio show a couple weeks ago, and
you don't know who I have winning the Super Bowl.
I will reveal that on the podcast in just a
little bit when I get to that game. Because that
team that I think is going to beat the Chiefs,

(07:39):
They've got a game this weekend that I'm definitely looking
forward to. You know, if you're looking to bet on
the game tonight, which I think we all are, right,
we've all been just jonesing to place a bet, and
maybe college football is not your thing. It's not for everybody.
I'm doing really good in college bets right now, I'm
seven and two. Make sure you follow me on social media.
I do put all my picks out out there for

(08:01):
the college game. I do think that's where I really
I've definitely over the years have helped people win money.
You know, I've done the radio show here in Tampa
Bay now for four years and we get text all
the time. Where are knicks picks? What time are knicks picks?
I don't want to miss knicks picks. If you follow
me on social media, you'll never miss them. I am
nick Wise, I am nick w i z is where

(08:23):
you can find me on Twitter, and I always put
out knicks picks there. Again, college we're seven and two,
So NFL we're Jones and to bet tonight. You know,
it's really hard not to take the Ravens and the
points in this game. I typically take the points in
NFL games because it's the NFL and everybody, anybody can
win on any given Sunday. I know that's cliche, right,

(08:46):
So I typically take the points and you're looking at
three wherever. You know, most sports books are right around three.
If you can get it at three, take the Ravens.
You know, if it's Chiefs minus two and a half.
Then you want to bet against Mahomes. I absolutely understand that.
I tried never to bet against Patrick Mahomes. The biggest
bet I ever won in my life was taking Mahomes

(09:09):
and the points against the Eagles a couple of years ago.
So I don't typically like to bet against Mahomes. However,
you're gonna give me Lamar Jackson. You're gonna give me
a team that everyone thinks is going to be in
the AFC Championship Game and a three point lead in
a game that could go either way. It's hard not
to take the Ravens. You know, the Chiefs have their
ceremony before the game. There's a lot that the Chiefs

(09:31):
have to go through, you know, after they've won the
Super Bowl and Opening Night it's just a there's a
lot of distractions. And look they again I mentioned it
a minute ago, they lost this game last year right
to the Lions twenty one to twenty. So a couple
betting numbers on this game. Seventy percent of the bets
and fifty nine percent of the money are on the
Ravens to cover the spread. Eighty three percent of the

(09:53):
bets but only forty four percent of the money are
on the over and thirty one percent of bets. Eight
percent of the money is on the money line or
on the ravens to pull off the upset. That is
according to Action Network. Another game I'm looking forward to
Green Bay in Philadelphia in Brazil. This is a Friday night.

(10:14):
This is the first time the NFL has done a
Friday night game. I will say I do like having
football on all of these days, but it also makes
it harder to have a relationship with my wife. You know.
It's hard to like donate your time to football, which
we all love, and we've probably all loved football before
we loved our wives, and you know, because football's been

(10:35):
around a lot longer than our wives have been. But
it really makes it hard. Now. Some of you might
have been married so long to where your wife doesn't
even want to see you, and that's fair. So you
got football every night. But I'm still trying to maintain
that and do things with her. And here we go Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
Sunday like I'm booked, and the Monday night I'm you know,
basically you got Tuesday or Wednesday. So this game is

(10:59):
Friday Night's to be on I think it's an Amazon
Prime game, right as Amazon Prime Orpea. It's one of
the streaming networks, and I know that's definitely annoying for
a lot of people. The streaming. I think the total
price came out to like eight hundred and fifty dollars
to have all the apps you need to see every
single game this year, it's getting absurd. So this is

(11:19):
definitely gonna be one of those streaming games. It's either
on Prime or Peacock. I can't I don't recall. I'm
sure you'll know by Friday before the game starts, because
you're gonna be looking it up. This game could have
playoff implications, both teams capable of winning their divisions. I
think that Green Bay is definitely going to challenge Detroit

(11:39):
for the NFC North. You know, Jordan Love didn't have
the greatest preseason, but how much can you really take
out a preseason? Not much, right, you know, I just
mentioned they're going to challenge the Lions. Remember the Lions
went oh in sixteen, what was it, two thousand and eight,
I can't remember what year it was, it was right
around that time, but they won all four of the

(12:01):
preseason games that year, so that just shows you the
preseason it means absolutely nothing. So if Jordan Love, you know,
didn't perform well in the preseason, I'm not gonna go
into this year going, oh, Jordan Love's gonna suck now.
I will say this, he was good for half the
year last year. You know, the second half he really
turned it on, became the highest paid quarterback Green Bay

(12:24):
had to pay him because the quarterback just always has
the leverage and there's nothing you can do about it.
But I am interested to see if Jordan Love can
keep it up. I'm not completely sold yet that Green
Bay has hit on their third quarterback in a row
and going to have forty five straight great years of
quarterback play. I'm not ready to give into that just yet,
mainly because I don't like Green Bay. But Jordan Love

(12:46):
definitely looks to be the part thus far. I think
the Eagles. The Eagles are one of the most mysterious
teams in the league this year. I don't know what
they're going to be. You know, they were a mess
at the end of last season and they I think
they when they lose five of their final six games,
they lose the playoff game. Not only lose the playoff game,

(13:08):
but that was a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that, you know,
I thought they were okay. I think that they weren't
as good as their record says they were. They were
a nine to eight team. They won their division and
hosted a playoff game, but they were in the NFC South.
It wasn't a very good division. You know. I think
if if Tampa Bay would have been in pretty much
any other division that year, you know, they're probably not

(13:31):
winning nine games. They're definitely not winning a division. But
the Eagles crashed. They went into Tampa Bay, they were
favored on the road and got blown out. They got
blown out against the Bucks. And the Buccaneers offense, which
wasn't great all year long, had had its struggles, especially
in the run game. They were the thirty second ranked

(13:51):
rush offense and they got destroyed. The Buccaneers put up
over thirty points on the Eagles. The Eagles looked like
they didn't want to be there and they wanted to
go home. So the Eagles are a very mysterious team
in the league this year. I don't know where they
are a team that could make a run and be
you know, a legitimate threat in the NFC, which we
all thought they were going to be last year. They

(14:12):
could also be a team that I could see fall
flat on their face, and maybe I best be a
wildcard team. You know, I really don't know what to expect.
You lose Jason Kelsey. He was a leader of this team.
He was a big part of the offensive line. You know,
he's the quarterback of the offensive line, being the center.
I don't know how they replace a guy like him
up front. You know, I don't know what the offensive

(14:33):
line is going to be like. What's Jalen Hurt's going
to be like? Without an elite offensive line? You know,
all of these questions remain to be seen from Philadelphia.
I think betting wise, I think both teams are capable
of winning this game. So again, I would probably take
the two and a half points for green Bay. That
is where I lean here on a Thursday, one day

(14:54):
before kickoff Sunday. The one PM games, there are not
many must see matchups, but we do have must see players.
I think in the one o'clock window, if I had
to pick the best game of the one pm window,
I'm probably gonna go Houston at Indianapolis Colts. You know,
can c J. Stroud do it again? I think he

(15:15):
has a chance to be the NFL MVP this year.
He's got the weapons. He's got Steph Diggs. Now, that
was a big acquisition in the offseason. They have Joe Mixon. Now,
Joe Mixon has had a horrible training camp and a
horrible preseason. Will he turn it around? I'm not sure.
He might have already, you know, hit his peek in
his career. We'll see, But on paper, Houston looks really solid. CJ.

(15:39):
Stroud probably a quarterback. I couldn't have been more wrong
on I put a lot of stock into how bad
he was under pressure in college. He was one of
the worst quarterbacks in college football, and I wondered if
it was going to translate into the NFL, and I
wasn't a believer. And then when he got drafted, well,
I'm all over him now. I think he's great so
much so he's on my fantasy team. So I'm definitely

(16:02):
rooting for him. I do think he's an MVP candidate.
Anthony Richardson on the other side, I'm really excited to
see he's getting a lot of hype. But can he
stay healthy. You know that's always been the problem with
Anthony Richardson. His ability to stay healthy is very fragile.
So I'm hoping he can stay healthy. I think it
makes obviously that division a lot more fun. That's a
division that has been down really for the most part

(16:24):
of the last five six years. But now you've got CJ.
Stroud in Houston, Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville, Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis.
You know, that looks to be a challenging to Will
Levis in Tennessee. You know, it's a division with a
lot of young quarterbacks, with a lot of potential and
could be a very strong division, you know here for

(16:46):
the next several years betting wise in this game. So
this is one of the weirdest spreads I saw for Sunday.
Indianapolis is only getting two and a half points, which
I think has a lot of folks saying, Oh, I'm
gonna hammer Houston, right, Houston only laying two and a
half points. We all think Houston's gonna be really good. CJ.
Stroud's gonna be great. I just told you we could

(17:07):
be an NFL MVP this year. Here's the thing I
never like to lay points on the road ever, never
do I like. I prefer a home dog, give me
the home team with the points every single time. And
this is one of those games where I almost went
against what I like to do and I almost took Houston.

(17:29):
And then I started to really dive into the trends,
and there was one trend that really stood out to me,
and that was this one right here. Divisional home underdogs
are eighteen nine and two straight up and twenty three
and six against the spread in Week one over the
last fifteen seasons. That is a cover rate of over

(17:51):
seventy nine percent. And that made me go, Okay, you
know what, that spread is too good to be true.
They're gonna sucker a lot of people in to taking Houston.
I'm gonna go with the Colts. Now, if you are
going to bet that game, what I would say is

(18:11):
wait all the way up until kickoff to place your bet,
because guess what, everybody is going to be betting on
the Colts or I'm sorry, everybody's going to be betting
on the Texans. No one's going to take the Colts.
So that game, I feel like that's one of those
Vegas lines that seems too good to be true. It
probably is. And then just that stat of divisional home

(18:35):
underdogs twenty three and six against the spread in Week
one over the last fifteen seasons, it's hard to not
take the Colts right, even if we don't know what
Anthony Richardson is. But Shane Steikin's done a great job
since he got to Indy after being the offensive coordinator
for the Philadelphia Eagles the year they went to the
Super Bowl. All Right, so we move into the four

(18:58):
o'clock window. A couple of games I'm excited about here.
This one is a low key, sneaky, great matchup. Now,
part of me is definitely intrigued in this game and
excited to watch it because I do have a radio
show in Tampa. But nationally, I think this game is
getting overlooked, and I think it's going to be a
fun watch. The Commanders against the Buccaneers. I'm really excited

(19:18):
to see Jaden Daniels and I'm really excited to see
him against the Todd Bowles defense. I think this is
going to be an excellent matchup. You know, it raises
the question, would you rather face a rookie quarterback in
Week one? Who's inexperienced could make mistakes. But at the
same time, you have no film on this quarterback at all,

(19:42):
or would you rather face the veteran where you have
all the film in the world on. Yeah, I think
it's a really good question. I think when it's someone
like Jaden Daniels, I don't know if I want to
face a running quarterback in week one that I don't
have a lot of film on. Now. I would imagine
Todd Bowles is watching a lot of the LSU tape,
but how much can you really learn, Right, He's not
at LSU anymore. He's in an NFL offense. It's a

(20:03):
whole different game. So I am excited to see that matchup,
you know. I think when you're going up against a
rookie quarterback in his first ever game, especially a mobile quarterback,
it definitely is going to provide challenges for the Buccaneers.
I think the Bucks do win this game. I do
think the Commanders will cover the three and a half,

(20:24):
and I think it's a field goal game either way.
And I'll discuss more of this game more in depth
on my radio show Saturday morning from nine to eleven
AM on ninety five to three, WDA and AM six twenty.
You could definitely check that out if you're in the
Tampa Bay area. If you're not in the Tampa Bay area,
you can listen for free on the iHeartRadio app. But
we'll definitely get more into that game on Saturday. The

(20:47):
other game in the window. I'm looking forward to that day,
Dallas in Cleveland. This is going to be, you know,
a really good matchup. You've got the Dallas offense, which
you know, I don't know how much I'm really gonna
hype them up this year because they didn't really make
a lot of moves in the offseason. Didn't love what
Dallas did, which is nothing. They're gonna go against the
Browns defense, which is really good. The Browns have not
made the playoffs in back to back years since eighty

(21:09):
eight and eighty nine. Can they get over that hump?
And how's the Cowboys defense gonna look without Dan Quinn
this year? As he's moved along. He is now the
coach of the Commanders, who we just talked about a
couple of minutes ago. You know, a lot of people
think Mike McCarthy will be done after the season unless
he gets to the NFC Championship game. You know, Bill
Belichick is out there woul him and Jerry get along.

(21:32):
I don't know if those two could work together. I
also got to be honest, I think that Bill Belichick
is done coaching, you know, unless his hot young girlfriend
leaves him, you know, then maybe he goes back to coaching,
or he just finds another young, hot girlfriend with all
the money he's got. But you know, with him dating
this what twenty four, twenty five year old whatever she is,
I don't think Bill's gonna get into coaching. Why would he.

(21:54):
I think life is pretty good for Bill. He's pretty
good at the analyst stuff, you know, seeing him a
Nick Saban on TV. They both do a great job.
You know, do TV. Spend time with your hot girlfriend,
no stress, no pressure. Also, Bill Belichick just joined Instagram.
He's finally becoming a normal person. So I don't think

(22:16):
Bill Belichick ends up coaching again. Tom Brady gonna be
on the call for the Dallas Cleveland game. I'm excited
for that. As a broadcaster, I'm a broadcaster geek. I
will watch certain games based on who the announcer is. Like.
I'm a huge fan of Tim Brando doesn't do the
biggest games. He does games on Fox. Sometimes it's a
ten to thirty PM game, and there's something about a

(22:39):
ten to thirty game with Tim Brandew on the television.
I just enjoy again. I'm a broadcast nerd, so I
am excited to see how Tom Brady does in the booth.
I know the NFL has laid a lot of rules
on him, things that he can and can't say. He's
not allowed to criticize the officials or criticize any of
the teams because he's a got some stake in ownership

(22:59):
in the in the Vegas Raiders. Stupid rules. I really,
it really doesn't make any sense to me, but hey,
that's the NFL. Another game Sunday night. I'm looking forward
to Sunday night football. Rams and Lions the matchup to
watch here. Can the Lions secondary be better Puka Nakua, Yeah,
one hundred and eighty one yards in a touchdown against

(23:20):
the Detroit Lions in the playoffs last year. They got
to find a way to slow him down. And you know,
the Lions did try to improve that area of their
football team. Now, obviously they are going to lose Cam Sutton,
who was on the America's Most Wanted List earlier this year.
They got rid of him. Pittsburgh picked him up. He's

(23:42):
going to be suspended I think the first eight or
nine games of the year. But they worked on this
in the drafty. Their first two picks, they spent on
Terry on Arnold out of Alabama Kestraw out of Missouri.
Those were their first two picks. Two corners, two guys
that are going to come in and start on this
defense right away and hopefully make a contribution. If those

(24:03):
two guys can improve the secondary, the Lions team has
a chance to do special things. The Lions are the
team that I have overthrowning the Kansas City Chiefs in
the Super Bowl this year. I feel like it's now
or never, right the Lions. They have the offensive firepower.
We know that they could use a wide receiver three,

(24:25):
you know, but they do have one of the best
tight ends, if not the best tight end of the
game to help out there in the pass catching. So
you're looking at a mon ros Saint Brown, one of
the most reliable receivers in the NFL. Sam wiport of
the tight end will be wide receiver two basically, and
then you have Jamison Williams as as your as your
three pass catcher, but wide receiver two, so they need
a wide receiver three they have. They picked up Tim

(24:47):
Patrick and free agency and a couple others. We'll see
how that works out, Tim Patrick coming off of an injury,
but it's really gonna come down to the Lions defense,
especially the secondary. I think this game is a field
goal game either way, So if you want to bet it,
you know, I'd probably lean towards taking the Rams in
the three and a half because again, I think it's
a three point game either way. And Matthew Stafford, you know,

(25:11):
it's obviously the storyline returning to Detroit. I don't think
it's as sexy as it once was because we just
had this game in the playoffs. You know, I've seen
the question thrown out there. Should the Lions play a
tribute video to Matthew Stafford. I don't know. You know,
he did great things there, but he also lost a
lot of games there. But he did a lot of
things for the city and still does. And you know,

(25:32):
I definitely appreciate that as someone who grew up in
Detroit and I love Matthew Stafford. He was a dog.
I don't know if you can play a tribute video.
You definitely couldn't do it, you know, before the playoff game,
absolutely no way. But if you wanted to play one,
you know, for him this time. Sure, I don't think

(25:53):
the Lions are going to and you know, I don't
think they have to either. Final game in the NFL.
I'm looking forward to jetson nine. Rogers as a Jet.
We finally get to see it, thank god, because last
year watching the Jets, I've always compared them as like
watching Iowa football. It was just three and out punt,
great defensive play, punt, great defensive play punt, and Rogers

(26:17):
getting hurt. Last year it honestly destroyed the NFL because
they had the Jets in so many primetime games and
we all had to suffer through all of those. I
do have a lot of questions with the Jets. You know,
old quarterback coming off of a serious injury, is Rogers
going to look the same? I know he's fully healed,
but look, I know he's Aaron Rodgers, one of the
greatest ever played the game, but he is older, right,

(26:37):
and that is a serious injury he had. So looking
forward to seeing you know, can he be Aaron Rodgers
that we know or is he going to take a
step back. I think the defense no question marks there.
They're gonna be great. I do think they get the Jets,
will get into the playoffs, but I think it's gonna
be a wild card spot. I've got the Dolphins winning
that division, and you know, on the other side, the Niners,

(26:58):
is this their last opportunity. You know, their window is
shrinking with at least this core of players. Now, I
fully believe John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan can build this
team up and continue to have success as time goes on.
But with this group of players, I don't know if
this is the final year. But yeah, the window is,

(27:18):
you know, it's it's closing a little bit. I think
this is the year they do have to get it done.
They did get a deal done with Brandon Ayuk. They
did get a deal done with with Trent Green, So
I'm sorry Trent Williams. So you know, they have invested
in this team. They are ready to go and it's
going to be a good I do have them winning

(27:40):
the NFC West. It it'll be a battle between them and
the Rams. All right, let's go to college football. Not
a great slate of games this weekend. Had to really
dig for some of these. We'll start with Florida and Samford,
and I'm not going to go deep into this because
we'll talk a little bit more on my radio show Saturday.
The reason why I brought this game up, though, is
DJ Lagway is going to be starting. So if you're
just the average college football fan, you're not sure who

(28:02):
DJ Lagway is. Five star quarterback recruit. He's a freshman
and he's gonna make us first start this weekend because
Graham Mertz, the starting quarterback, the senior, had a concussion
and is still in concussion protocol. So he's going to
get his first start against Samford. I think he's going
to play well and he's probably going to start going forward.

(28:22):
But I will say this, be careful with what you
wish for in Gainesville because this could backfire. You know.
I think that he ends up becoming the starter because
that's who the fans want to see. And I think
Billy Napier, honestly, his job is depending really on this kid, right.
You know, whenever you talk to the fan base of
the Florida Gators, it's like well, I don't want to
get rid of Napier because if we get rid of Napier,

(28:44):
then we probably lose DJ Lagway. So I'll keep Napier
for a Lagway. Now, the university, they don't look at
it that way. That's how the fans interpret things. So
you know, DJ Lagway is probably the only guy that
can save the job of Billy Napier. But I gotta
be honest, this team looks so bad against the Hegaines.
I don't know if Napier is going to make it,
you know, after this year. But again, be careful with

(29:05):
what you wish for in Gainesville, because how bad that
Florida team looked, you know, in week number one, especially
in the trenches. That offensive line not great. You know,
you could also destroy DJ Lagway if he goes out
there and is just constantly under pressure and can't get
anything done. You could really brutally damage his confidence. And
you could always go back to Graham Mertz for sure,

(29:28):
and you could sit the kid. But again, what does
that do to his confidence? So they got to be
very careful, right as much as you want to see
DJ Lagway become the guy, you know, sometimes if you
get ahead of yourself. That could backfire, so hopefully it doesn't.
Hopefully they will, you know, hopefully DJ Lagway will be fine.
But you know, just be careful with what you wish
for if you're a Florida Gators fan. The premier matchup

(29:50):
of the weekend, Michigan and Texas. Really excited for this one.
Davis Warren, He's gonna have to play better for Michigan.
I thought alex Orgy was going to be the starter
for the Michigan A lot of people are comparing him
to Jalen Milroe based on his size. The thing is,
Jalen Milroe can throw. Alex Orgie cannot. There was a
play in that game against Presno State last week where

(30:10):
he rolled out to the right, he had a wide
open receiver. He threw a right in the dirt. I'm
talking like five yards right into the dirt. Like it
was like he forgot to let go of the ball
and it was one of the worst throws I've ever
seen in a college football game. And from that moment on,

(30:30):
I went, oh, Okay, that's why he's not starting. He
can't complete a pass. So Davis Warren's gonna be the guy.
Are there gonna be packages for Alex Orgy. Yes, but
this is gonna be Davis Warren's team going forward. Michigan
gonna regret probably not going to the transfer portal. I
talked about that on an episode the other day of
the podcast. They didn't go to the portal, they didn't

(30:54):
get a quarterback, and now they have a guy who's
a walk on. Great story, Davis, not gonna get into it,
but you want to check that out. David Warren, great
story for this kid. I'm definitely rooting for him to
be great. Michigan's offensive line, they're gonna have to get
it figured out. They didn't look like the Michigan offensive
line we've seen the last three years, and a lot

(31:14):
of that is, you know, there's not a lot of
continuity there, a lot of new guys coming in haven't
played together. But they got to find the right five
guys and get them together and get them get it
figured out because you've got two more days before Texas
comes into the Big House for the first time. The
Texas offense against the Michigan defense. It's gonna be a
fun watch. I really wish this wasn't a noon game.
I hate that Fox has the Bignon. I really wish

(31:36):
they'd stop putting their biggest games at noon. This game.
Could you imagine the environment at the Big House with
a maze out at night? This game is just they
feel bigger when they're at night too. So really, the
networks continue to disappoint me with the things that they do.
I just obviously it's for the money, I get it,

(31:57):
but for the fan to not have the game and
night definitely sucks. If you plan on betting Michigan in
this game, wait until kickoff, everyone's going to be on Texas,
all right. The spread's going to continue to go up.
I think a lot of people are overreacting to the
Fresno State performance. I'm not saying Michigan's gonna win this game,
but he spread over a touchdown Michigan home. I think

(32:21):
they can cover that. Even even as bad as the
offense looked last year. Were they holding back for this
Texas game? I don't ever really truly believe in holding
back for an opponent, but maybe they were. Maybe they
weren't trying to show a lot. I don't really try to.
I try to never really fall down that path of Oh,
they didn't want to show anything because I don't really
believe in it. And then I saw a clip from

(32:42):
Joel Klatt's podcast where he was talking to Brady Coinn,
and Brady Quinn said that, you know, one year, him
and Notre Dame they didn't really prepare for BYU and
they held a lot back and they struggled in that game,
and they saved everything for Michigan the next week. So
you know, maybe teams do hold back a little bit,
But I don't know. Man, Michigan's offensive line looked shaky,
and I don't think that's they're not holding anything back

(33:04):
for Texas, they just weren't gelling. There. Another matchup I'm
looking forward to Colorado and Nebraska. This is a night game.
Look shaduor Sanders and Travis Hunter. They must watch. They're
both Heisman candidates. The Colorado de offense against the Nebraska
defense is going to be fun to watch. Now on
the other side of things, for Nebraska, I'm excited to
see Dylan Riola, former five star recruit was supposed to

(33:26):
go to Georgia, was committed to Georgia, flipped last minute
to Nebraska. I believe he's got an uncle on the
coaching staff. His dad is Dominic Riola, who was the
center of the Detroit Lions. I believe his dad. I'd
have to look it up and confirm, but I'm ninety
five percent positive his dad has the worst winning percentage
in the National Football League because he was on those
really bad Detroit Lions teams. But I'm excited to see

(33:49):
Dylan Riola play. He should have massive numbers against this
Colorado defense. I do believe Matt Rule is a great coach.
I really like him for Nebraska, and you know, when
it looked like Jim Harbaugh was leaving for the NFL
a couple of years ago and Matt Rule is still
at Carolina, I wanted Michigan to give Matt Rule a
call because I thought he was What he did at
Baylor was remarkable. You know. He took them from a

(34:09):
one to eleven program to eleven to one in just
a couple of years, and I think he's gonna be
able to do the same in Nebraska this year. I
think with the way the schedule plays out, they're definitely
capable of winning eight or nine games. I don't see
them as a playoff team, especially now with the freshman quarterback,
but I do see them as a bowl team, which
they haven't done since twenty sixteen. As far as the
betting goes on this game, I'm leaning Nebraska laying the

(34:31):
points if I can get it at seven or less.
I just don't trust the Colorado defense, and I continue
to bet against Colorado, but when Colorado's getting the points,
I don't. I tend to stay away. If Colorado's laying points,
I usually take the other team the points because Colorado's defense. Again,
I just don't trust. A couple other notable games on

(34:53):
Saturday before we wrap this up, Iowa State in Iowa.
If you like defense, this is obviously a mo watch right.
It's gonna be a low scoring game. It's in Iowa. Well,
of course it's in Iowa. It's to Iowa teams, but
it's in the Hawkeyes of the home team, is what
I meant to say there. You know Iowa they did
fight an offense last weekend. They put up forty Now,

(35:15):
again it was against Illinois State, but look, they weren't
putting up forty points against bad teams last year, wasn't it.
What do they have a game against? Was it South
Dakota State North Dakota State? One of the Dakotas. They
won seven to three, two safeties in a field goal. Right,
that's Iowa football. So Iowa's offense lit it up in
Week one for the first time in a long time.
Will that continue? Probably not. You know, I'm not saying

(35:40):
that they can't score and hang with Iowa State. They can.
I think they'll win this game. But are they gonna
put up forty No, I think that. Let me look
it up real quick. The over under in this game
is very over under Iowa Iowa State. It's got to
be like thirty six, is my guy? The over runners
thirty five, thirty five. It's gonna be tempting to take

(36:02):
the over after seeing Iowa what they did last week,
but don't do it. Iowon the over that rarely hits.
Another game that I'm looking forward to. I bring this
one up because you know, I do the show here
in Tampa and they are right in my backyard. That's
the us HAF going to Alabama. Remember this was a
game last year. US half kept it close. The score
of the final score of that game actually really doesn't

(36:25):
tell you how that game played out because it was
a I believe it was three to three at halftime
last year and then there was a long rain delay.
A lot of factors played into this game, but you know,
USF held their ground and that was really the wake
up call for Alabama before they finally turned their season around,
eventually making it to the playoff, losing to Michigan and
the Rose Bowl. The spread is around thirty one points,

(36:47):
you know, and us HAF they did hang with them
last year. I would imagine a lot of people are
gonna jump on USF on the on the spread. I
don't think USF can hang I think us HAF is
a great team. I think they're a dark horse to
be a playoff team, one of the group of five lives.
You know. I love their quarterback, I love their coach.
I think they returned eighteen starters total. So USFS has talent.

(37:12):
They're not gonna be able to beat Alabama. Though. But
is there such thing as a moral victory for USF.
I don't think there are any such things as moral victories.
But I will say this, if they can keep this
game close within two scores and then beat Miami in
a couple of weeks, then yes, it's a moral victory
because if you hang close with Alabama. You beat Miami,

(37:32):
which probably isn't going to happen. We've saw how good
Miami is. But let's just say they do. You hang
around with Alabama and you beat Miami and then you
run your conference. Yeah, you're a playoff team, and this
would essentially be a moral victory. So that's the only
outcome that there is a moral victory for USF over Alabama.
That's a seven o'clock game on ESPN Boise State, Oregon.
This is like one of those ten thirty kickoff games

(37:54):
I love. I'm excited for no more PAC twelve after dark,
which sucks. So I guess now it's Big ten Mountain
White after dark Boise State in Oregon. They're gonna play
each other. Is the Oregon team that played Idaho last year?
The real Orgon team struggled to run the ball. It
was a three point game late in the fourth quarter
before Oregon finally pulled away twenty four to fourteen. You know,

(38:19):
was that the real Orgon team? You know? Organ has
been a team we've hyped up as national championship contenders.
I don't have them winning the national championship this year,
but I do think they're one of the five best
college FOOTBA teams a college football at least I thought
going into last week they were one of the big letdowns.
I would say them and the Wolverines were probably two
of the bigger disappointments. Obviously, Florida State and Florida both

(38:42):
disappointments as well. Florida I never had winning against Miami,
but I thought they'd compete. Florida State. I thought they'd
be two to er. Right now, they're going two and
we haven't eve gotten a week two. Boise State. They've
got a running back, Ashton Genty. This guy is going
to be a problem. This guy might be if you
don't watch a lot of Boise State football. I get it.
He's the best running back in college football. And he's

(39:03):
probably going to be a first round pick, late first
round pick. You know, running backstone Off can go in
the first round anymore. This guy's got a chance to
do that. Last week he had two hundred and sixty
seven yards six touchdowns, both school records, and Oregon has
never beat Boise State. That spread is at nineteen right now.
That's what I'm going to stay away from because you know,

(39:24):
like we saw Michigan a couple of weeks A couple
of minutes ago, maybe Oregon was holding back a little
bit for this game. I don't know. I don't know
why you would hold back for Boise State. But maybe
Oregon knows they've never beaten Boise State ever, which is
kind of crazy to think about. So that's going to
be an interesting matchup. Nineteen points spread. I have a
feeling a lot of people are going to take Boise

(39:45):
State in the points after Oregon's disappointing game last week.
That's the biggest mistake you can make as a better
is judging a team off of their performance the week before.
You know, the same thing goes for that Texas Michigan game.
I'd be careful betting that one. If you're gonna take
Texas laying the points. I think Texas wins the game,

(40:06):
but be careful taking in the points. It's not an
automatic just because Michigan didn't play well in week number one.
You gotta be very careful. You know. It's like the
Ioio State game. People are gonna see that number of
thirty five as the over under. They might take the
over because they saw Iowa and they've been told Iowas
I got an offense all of a sudden. Be careful,
all right. The worst thing you can do in betting
is put all your marbles, you know, all your eggs

(40:28):
in one basket by looking at the week before performance.
So this is a game I'm probably not gonna touch,
at least as of now. That could change. I'll update
you on the podcast tomorrow, but that could be a
sneaky good ten thirty PM game that you watch as
you lay impat I know I'll be checking that one
out again. Not a great slate of games, and one
of the best games happens to be on a ten

(40:49):
thirty at night. That's gonna wrap up this episode of
season tickets. I thank you for listening this. I hope
you enjoyed it again. Make sure you're subscribed on iHeartRadio
