Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thank you, Mike.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Yes for the final time with Cracking head coach Dan Bilsma.
We've talked so much about games this season, what went right,
what went wrong? I want to use our last conversation
as kind of a state of the union, if you will,
And when you look back on your first season behind
the bench of the Seattle Crack and what are you
going to take from this year, whether it be professionally
(00:22):
for you, personally or collectively with this group.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Wow, the state of the union I want.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
I don't have my speech in front of me on
the state of the Union, but I think you know
I going into the season, you know, wanted to grow
into a team that was a team, a consistent team,
and how we want to play consistent team in our effort,
(00:49):
consistent team and our you know, you know what you
could expect from the Seattle Cracking on each and every night,
and you know the evaluation in the state of the Union,
we didn't achieve that. I can look at the record
to say that, but I think you know, too many
conversations between the two of us have been about the
(01:13):
inconsistencies in that regard, and.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
You know, I take a lot of.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Pride in the last nineteen games, and I know the
group does as well. And we you know, we obviously
addressed where we were at at the deadline, and that
wasn't the picture we all wanted it to be, but
we didn't want to play out the last nineteen games
with that being the story of our team. And I
(01:44):
think the guys have taken a great deal of pride
and put a lot of energy into being a consistent, competing,
hard team to play against and knowing what you're going
to get when you play the Seattle crack In in
this last nineteen games, and I think you've seen a
lot of growth and our team in that regard, and
(02:07):
that is something that all of us are going to
take positive into the summertime and be a little more
determined coming back to camp next year to bring that.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
For eighty two, there have.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Been a lot of really strong individual performances and areas
of growth. You look at Shane Wright, Joey decord Yannie Newman,
coppol Coco, the list goes on and on. Where are
some of those other peaks that you found this season
from an individual level about guys getting to that next
point in their NHL careers.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Matt e Veniers.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
I think a lot of growth and you know, coming
off a year of which was maybe disappointing for him,
and have expectations for where he could go as a player,
and I think they're still growing and still happening, but
especially the second half of the season and maybe in
(02:59):
particular with the you know, Cocko trade and that line
kind of being established. Schwartz was on there for a
majority of that time just as a as a number
one line that you know, in a lot of cases
went against other team's best players, best lines and did
a positive by analytics numbers and by how they played
(03:23):
a positive against other team stops. That's I think huge
for Maddie in particular in his mindset for who he
is as a player.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Shane Wright.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
You know, a lot of eyes on this year for
Shane and his growth and development and I think him
settling into an eighty two game season and you know,
being able to be a producing guy down the middle
of the rink and and I think that's a huge
(03:55):
for him personally, but huge for the team going going forward.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
You know, Cocko get adding Coco.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Was was evident right away that it's something that this
team needed and missed a big body guy who can
hold onto the punch, pucking the offensive, own play a
possession game, which is how you win hockey games. And uh,
we saw a lot of that from from Coco. I think,
(04:23):
you know, Ryker Evans establishing himself as a every day,
really good defenseman in this league that can defend and
skate and be hard to play against.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
And he's still.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Growing into that, and that's a you know, I'm imploring
him to continue that.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Going forward.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
But I think, uh, it's we started early on in
the season with a belief in the room that if
we play a certain way we play as a team,
that we can be a good team, that we can
be anyone on any given night. And I think the
last nineteen games this team is starting to grow into
(05:08):
that and believe that something that you know can't take
a hiccup, can't take a step back from over the
next five months, but take this last nineteen games in particular,
and take it into next year.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Finally, here, a lot of folks will say that as
a coach, I'm nothing without my assistance. How would you
surmise the job that Jess Campbell, Bob Woods and Dave
Lowry did for you? This season along with Matt Lark
and Steve Breer.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
You no growth and development.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
I you know, talking to a few of the players
and you know, Chandler Stevens in particular, a new guide
to the organization. Is it was a learning year from
a lot of aspects for Chandler just coming to Seattle,
the city, the people, the fans, the the team, the relationships,
(06:03):
the interaction was all you know, new and a learning
time for for Chandler.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Same for the coaching staff.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
I think this was you know, I think Dave Lowry
was instrumental in having had relationship in the past, knowing
the players, knowing where they're at, and and helping Jess
and Bob and I with that.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
And with those relationships.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Bob, you know, he's uh, he's an every day guy
with the defenseman every day and talking to them, talking
about their play, you know, talking about where we can
be better improve and.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
It's he's a quiet every day or but he's every
day with those defensemen.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
And I think, you know, for me and for Jess,
it's not my first time in the National Hockey League,
but it's my first time getting back into the National
Hockey League, and you know, learning this team learning the
players I think was a big factor for me, a
big factor.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
For Jess this year.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
And I think I'm you know, I'm over the course
of the year, the way we've interacted, the way the
coaches have been, I just votes well for.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
This team and for what we're going to do in
the future.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Well, Dan, thanks for your time, for all of these
that we've done this year. Thank you for allowing myself
and Alan Mike to take two thousand minutes of your
time pregames in cubbies and in hallways, and looking forward
to doing eighty two more and more after that next season.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Thanks for so much, Dan, Yeah, thank you, Thank you guys,
