Speaker 1 (00:00):
With Kracken head coach Dan Bielesma. Dan, I'd be remiss
if I did not ask you about Shane Wright here
in Montreal, but I will keep it on the ice.
What have you liked about the way he is transitioned
into a full time NHL or this season. You've coached
him for the past two years, you know him personally
as well. What have you liked and what have you
noticed about his game the last month month and a

(00:23):
half of his development.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I think he's been able to continue to show what
he's shown in Coachella previous year, just the consistency of
being a good pro and being able to show off
his skill in skating because of it. And he's a
player who has developed into being in the right spots

(00:45):
and being good defensively, being aware defensively, and then being
aware that that's where the puck comes to. And then
he has it on his tape and you see him
transport the puck up the ice and have confidence being
able to make a play and frankly uses a shot
that he's he's got. When he doesn't do those things,

(01:08):
if you see a moment where he doesn't hang out
in the pucket hold onto the pocket, he whips it away.
That's when he's reverting, you know, to to some of
the things he's moved past. And I just think it's
it's you know, the story of him coming to Montreal
and playing here is not about the draft. It's about
him and how he's progressed as a player, and he

(01:30):
just needs to go out and play like he has
been for us to answer any questions about the other stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
He wrapped up the homestand with a loss to Carolina.
A tough game for Seattle systematically because Carolina to touch
a good job in that neutral zone, that that sludge,
if you will, but Seattle keeping in that game until
the end of it. Just take us back and your
thoughts on the effort for the Cracker.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah, it wasn't. It wasn't, you know, it was at
the start we expected from from the Carolina Hurricanes. Just
a high pressure team, confrontational team on the walls and
in the nutri zone as you as you mentioned, and
being able to win those confrontations and executing those high

(02:16):
pressure situations is key against that team. And when you don't,
you feed into their you know, high shot volume offense,
and if you can execute, you get two on ones
and opportunities in the other end of the rink, and well,
the game wasn't going, you know, super great for us.

(02:38):
There were multiple times that that was opportunities presented themselves
in which we just we didn't win the puck battle,
we didn't execute and and uh, you know, weren't able
to get a lot in that game. However, you know,
with five eight minutes to go in the first period,
we have a scramble in front of a second period,

(02:59):
we've scramble in front of the net and there's a
loose puck and Carts and Barkowski are banging at it.
That would make it a won one game. We had
to kill off a four minute penalty and we have
a breakaway to McCann at the end of the that
would make it a you know, would have made it
a game. In the third period, we you know, we

(03:20):
had the goal by Jared McCann and we had a
breakaway from Tolven and shortly thereafter to make the game
too to which would have, you know, put the game
back at least tied up and in our favor potentially.
So I think that there was lots of evidence in
that game where we could have We could have won

(03:42):
won the game, even though you know, at the end
of the game we got out shot by a lot.
Their power play had nineteen shot attempts, which really fueled
their their game.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
In a situation like that, And please correct me if
I'm wrong, but at least it seemed like from our
vantage point fifty f away, there was some frustration that
was creeping in, whether that be with the penalties, whether
that be with the lack of offensive generation. How do
you manage in that situation, the temperament on the bench,
the temperature of your players to continue to battle and

(04:14):
not just throw the hands up in the air and say,
you know what, forget it.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Well, I think the reaction and the call it frustration,
I didn't. I didn't think we were getting frustrated as
a group. We were getting agitated and confrontational, which that's
that's the game. And I think, you know, we want
to consider ourselves a good team, You're going to have

(04:43):
to do it under the heat of the gun. You're
gonna have to do it under the pressure of the game.
And you know, I think largely in that game we
kept responding. We you know, the too many penalties came
too often and had to kill off the four minute
at the end. But you know, our guys were right
there in the fight, And I said, if Jerem McCann

(05:05):
scores the breakaway goal that he got, really could change
the momentum of the game with that play. And that's
what you got to keep having that mindset of. But
regardless of the fight, regardless of the fire that you're underneath,
you got to keep playing and keep competing. And sometimes
it's not always going to go your way, but you

(05:26):
got to keep sticking your nose in there, keep competing.
And you know, we didn't come out with a positive
result in that game, but that one's over. No, we
got to get out in Montreal.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Adding Kale Flurry John Hayden to the roster. We've seen
kill Flurry. He's been called up a couple of times
this season already. John Hayden one of the final cuts
in training camp this past year. What do you like
about this move and what can we expect? Can we
expect to see either one of those two players on
this five game trip?

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Well, I think, uh, five games road trip, there's probably
gonna be a bumpers in this road trip that I
puts one or both of those guys in the lineup.
But that also means that you know that I think
with Kale, Kill's done it for a couple of years.

(06:14):
But John in training camp in particular, had a great
training camp and this physical was fast. Was you know,
able to add some offense with with that physicality and
and that's what he brings. He's an NHL or you know,
it's like a lot of NHL games and been a

(06:35):
cind only killing third fourth line guy that can add
physicality and consistent compete. So would bode well for us
to see both of them in the lineup.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Montreal is a team that seems to have turned that
proverbial corner the last couple of games, relying very heavily
on their top six forward group for their offense. What
do you need to see out of your group here
tonight to help combat that and get this road trip
started off on the right foot.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, you know, heavily heavily the top two lines. I
think seventy percent of their offense five on five is
coming from the top line Suzuki and Cawfield and Doc,
And it's pretty consistent on how they they get it there.
You know, when you mismanage the puck and you turn

(07:26):
over the puck that's going to be in the hands
of fourteen and thirteen really quick and they're going to
be able to you know, transition with speed and they
have they have some really uh special agility and skating
that allow them to create a lot of offense. And
the same is like that. It's a unique thing about

(07:47):
the Montreal Canadians. It seems that they have a knack
and a propencity to be around the net with their
skilled players and Gallagher and caw Fields turning into that
type of suzuki there when they get to the offensive zone.
If you give them a chance, they're gonna have they're
going to have those guys be you know, in and

(08:09):
around the net and they get not skill goals, they
get they get dirty, scrappy goals and and they're good
at it. So you got to be aware when they're
on the ice. You got to be aware with the
puck when they're on the ice, and you got to
be aware when they have the puck when they're on
the ice, because they're special players.
