Coming out the five to zhering win over Vancouver Wednesday.
We'll hear more from defenseman Adam Larsen from the Crack
and dressing room shortly before the Kraken got on the
plane for San Jose. Plus also a conversation with Jeff Baker,

(00:57):
VP of Editorial for NHL dot Com Slash Kraken and
we'll learn more about the Kraken and their progress with
physicality from a recent read he penned on the website.
You might want to go ahead and check that out
in case you haven't yet. Jeff Baker again joining us
in just a little bit, the Kraken heading into Vancouver
looking to put a dent into the Canucks playoff hopes,

(01:18):
and God after it quickly in period one for.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Connor Garland Garland on his back hand of that door,
same by Joey to chord, my goodness, Drew O'Connor all
along on the right side to chord from his right
to hits left, gets the glove to knock it down
and the Seattle Cracket premade scoreless. Asamon forcing a turnover,

(01:43):
Asamon tell the fut to Mike the Asamon has done
so much in the last handful of games for Seattle.
Rewarded for his efforts with the first goal of the night,
fourth game of the row, the Cracket have scored the
first goal of the game, aim three to eighteen to
play what nothing.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Seattle leads well and Aaron passed by Vancouver in the
neutral zone, bite right by the red line. Mikey Eastamont
reads it perfectly, picks it up on his backhand cuts
back to his fourhund down that left side and just
leaves the Vancouver player in the dust, earning himself a
breakaway and the first gold game one nothing Grass.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Seattle three on two in the red line. McCann right side, Verretkowsky,
Stevenson left circle shot stars Chandler Stevenson tucks it in
up for ninety in the corner and the crack it
with ten to eleven to play in the second have
a two.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
And dething lead. Yeah, m can down the middle of
the ice, actually slows the rush up a little bit
to allow us Stevenson to catch up to him, ditches
it to Brekovsky. Berrekowsky turns and gets it to Stevenson,
who then roofs it on depco to nothing.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Ground it for Shane right store.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Shane right from the left circle, the exact same place
the Chanler Stevenson goal was top right. Come of the
goal hits a three nothing Seattle.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Lead while Shane Wright, being a right handed shot, comes
down the left side, gets a fantastic drop pass from
Jared McCann and puts it right in that top corner
above the glove on Demko's side. It's three nothing crack
cuts McCann up the left side, McCann on.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
The slot, Brekowski start. It's a two point night for
Andre Brekowski and the Seattle Krackett had one more. They
lead by four four nothing, eleven o.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Five to play absolutely in another great feed by Jared McCann.
He waits waits, waits down the slot, sells the shot
to Demko, so Demko has to respect that and come
up and attacking it in the last second, slides it
over to his right and Brukowsky's on his off wing.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
It's an easy.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Shot in the back of the net. Four nothing Kracking
and McCann has.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Three points to the crack and hit it out. Here's
ty Krtzier on the far side in front of the
crackt bench. Now Larsi front of the red line around
Hughes Larsit stores the big cat on the prowl, empty
net goal. It's a five nothing Seattle lead. Three thirty
six left in Vancouver.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Yeah, good clear by Seattle there. Ty Krcie picking up
that puck in the neutral zone, finds Larson over on
the far side and Larson puts it in the back
of the empty net for his seventh of.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
The season, if there's one team then did a ton
of damage to the Canucks. This season, it was the
Kraken getting three wins out of fore head to head
with Jered mccamm picking up a three assist game, Vince Dunn,
Andre Borakowski as well with multipoint efforts. Well, the Kraken
know that they have six games up to make one
final impression. And before we get to Jeff Baker, one

(04:42):
veteran who's been here from the start with plenty of
wisdom on that path moving forward is defenseman Adam Larson.
He finished off the Canucks with an empty net goal
on Wednesday, had two block shots and a hit as well.
And Larson spoke more on the path ahead for the
Krack and shortly before they got on a plane the
San Jose Adam Larson joining us right now and Adam,

(05:03):
been a while since we've had a chance to chat.
But first off, when you get a day off you've
had between for road stops and you go back home,
what's the best day to unwind at.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
This time of year?

Speaker 6 (05:14):
First off, a sunny.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Day, a little bit more out there.

Speaker 6 (05:17):
Yeah, I know, I do a lot of dog walks,
go out for lunch and the dinner plans kind of
gets canceled out with a kids, so it's more focus
on the lunch these days and just being outside and chill.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Baby is growing. We'll get to that in a little bit.
And I hear a family is doing awesome, which I
think a lot of us are thrilled to hear of.
But first off, i'd love your perspective from the last
few games before this season comes to an end. What
do you want to accomplish with what time is left
here heading into the off season.

Speaker 6 (05:48):
Well, we're still trying to win as much as we can,
and I kind of like what the team hasn't just quit.
We're kind of still battling hard for each other, for
everyone involved, And I mean it's it's a lot of
pride guys in here, so it's just bowling hard and

(06:09):
play as a team. I think it's a very important domonstructure.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Players would say that battle level comes in certain forms,
whether it's resilience from the mind, whether it's physical as well.
And the perception is out there that this team is
growing with how it plays the game physically. How much
would you agree with that?

Speaker 6 (06:26):
Yeah, yeah, I would say so. I mean it's I
don't know, I would We're obviously not happy with our year,
and we're hoping we were sitting in a different possession
right now. But I still think that this team and
this group has a really bright future with the stars
and with the young players they have here. So yeah,

(06:50):
I mean when it comes to the physical aspect, I
think it is, Yeah, we just played more like a
team and just looks more connected.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
When you get into the off season, I know that
there are a few games to go until you can
kind of finish what you started here, But what can
that off season do to help you recharge mentally and
understand what core values mean the most to this team
Heading into this next season.

Speaker 6 (07:14):
I think everyone kind of needs to reflect how their
personal year was and what the team, what you need
to bring to the team, not just for short spurts,
but for for a full season. I mean, I think
we all kind of need to take a hard look
in the mirror and because we need to get better.
We need to be better everybody in here. So it's yeah,

(07:38):
that's what those those weeks are for before you start.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Kind of getting back here to the physical thing. When
you see guys recently like Yannie Newman, Mikey Asimont who's
new here to this team, and others dive in. You know,
whether it's giving a little bit back, you know, pushing, shoving,
and even a little bit of chirping as well. What
kind of a lift does that give for the bench?

Speaker 4 (07:57):
A lot?

Speaker 6 (07:57):
I mean, even not to forget anyone, but John Hayden
is I think very important for this team, and I
think we have a little different look when he's in
the lineup, and you can see the swagger coming out
too from from a lot of guys. But I mean
Gianni has been playing unreal and Mikey too. I mean
it's it's just fun to watch. So obviously they've scored

(08:21):
a lot of goals too, which which help.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
I love how you bring up John Hayden because he
does have experience, he has a reputation as well with
other teams. But when he's in and making a big impact,
what does that impact look and feel like here?

Speaker 6 (08:33):
Well, I think it's just a confidence thing for the group.
And he knows what kind of player is, The coaches
know what kind of players is, and we know what
kind of players is. He brings that harness, toughness and
a lot of energy through your room, which I think
I think you need, and that's why why he's suffering.

(08:53):
He's been playing really good.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
All right.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Moving on here for more context of the seeding the
crank and taking on the San Jose Sharks as seven
o'clock airtime at six thirty as this road trip now
into game two of five on the swing. Jeff Baker,
VP of Editorial for NHL dot com slash Crack and
joining us right now. Jeff, First off, for those not aware,
I believe you went under the knife with your arm

(09:17):
and a sling and they had a celebration coming out
of it with a well deserved slice of pizza. How
are you feeling, pal.

Speaker 5 (09:23):
I'm feeling good. I could use some more pizza. The
problem is I'm properly yeah, exercise for a good six
months according to my doctors, my surgeons. So yeah, I'm
gonna be uh, I'm gonna be out of commission for
a while. So I got to watch my pizza intake,
you know, balance it out with my wine and my
beer and take a little bit and we'll see. We'll

(09:44):
see how it goes. Well.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
It's great to see that you're you're back on the men.
You're getting back to normal day by day here. Thanks
again for doing this with us. I mean, I love
the read on NHL dot com and pretty apparent we're
seeing a meme streak now growing this team. Jeff. So,
with six games left, what are we learning about how
that feeds this team their game and how they can

(10:07):
look at this year from the big picture lens moving ahead?

Speaker 5 (10:11):
Well, I think you just have to kind of watch
them behind the play, you know, after the plays whistled dead,
you know, just just kind of how they react to
getting shoved around. They've been shoving back quite a bit,
and you know, then they'll do it while the play
is ongoing as well, And that's a key to the NHL.
You have to be willing to play the physical game
in the NHL. Just because fighting is down compared to

(10:33):
what it was twenty thirty years ago, doesn't mean the
physical stuff stopped happening. If anything, you know, the play
is just as physical and it's happening at higher speeds.
So you have to have players that are willing to
pay the price, willing to go to the net, willing
to get knocked down get back up. And then we're
seeing that a lot more from the team, I would
say since the trade deadline, and it's probably not a coincidence.

(10:54):
You have, you know, some guys up here from the
AHL that are competing for spots. You know, guys like
Yannie Newman, Ryan Winners, and we saw got a little
taste of it. And you know we saw Jacob Millanson
that was up here, four of them. He's a physical player.
You got Mikey Eimont who's here and is a restricted
free agent this summer, and you know he'd like to,

(11:14):
I'm sure earn a spot full time with this team.
So and John Hayden as well. You know, you throw
all those guys in the mix, you know there's gonna
be some physicality that that's added to your lineup. And
I think it's contagious. You know, you can't just have
two guys doing It's got to be everywhere. And I
like it. I like kind of the grit that we're seeing.
I don't think it's a coincidence that we have so

(11:36):
many finished players on the team and we're seeing this.
Finland teaches their guys to play that kind of a game.
I only told him has always been like that. He's
not the biggest guy, and he scores a lot of goals,
but you watch him around the net, he can get
a little nasty at times. He's not afraid he'll He'll
give as good as he gets, and he plays it
with that mindset, that tough mindset. I think you know
some of it when when you I think there's like

(11:56):
three or four finished players on the roster at any
given time, you know you're going to see that.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Here's one trio growing attention, Maddy Baniers in the middle.
It's six foot two, Yannie Newman on his left wing
at six foot two, Coppocco on his right wing at
six foot one. What's your read as a line together
here for these guys, Jeff, and I think to me,
I think we're seeing a different Veneers. Now. It may

(12:23):
be a work in progress, but saize on that line
can move a few people around, which can only help
all three.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
I think. So I think Theniers needed some exercise on
that line that can kind of take some of the
heat off of him. He's been bashed around quite a
bit since is you know, since the start of his
rookie season, and so now we're three years into his career,
you know, and he's paid a physical price. You know,
i'd like to see him, for his six foot two,
get a little bit bigger.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Than what he is.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Yeah, you know, not all bodies grow the same, but
you know, I think i'd like to see him get
a little bit more muscle. He seems to be withwithstanding
the punishment, a lot a little better this this season.
He's had a better season than he did a year ago.
And I think he did try to bulk up a
bit last offseason. I think maybe that's helped him a
little bit. I'd like to see if he can put
on on just a little bit more to get some

(13:11):
more half behind that six foot two. But certainly, you know,
he's been making plays, and when he does get knocked out,
he's been getting back up again. I think, you know,
three years into his career, he's getting used to it
at this point. I've written before. I think the team's
very solid the middle of the ice. You know, from
from defense to offense. You know, you know the three centers,
top three centers, and then you know your top defense

(13:33):
at parings. I think they look very strong right now,
and the goalie and Joey the court, So I think
that's that's going to be a plus for the team
going forward.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
You got Benier's right Chandler Stevens, and also who's turned
to his game up a notch ever since well really
the second half of the season, maybe even going back
to November. And you know, we I talked with Adam Larson,
we shared this conversation here on this podcast a little
bit ago, and he brought up John Hayden and you
mentioned his name as well as far as those who
are bringing a difference as far as the physical game

(14:04):
and depending upon maybe where this goes with contract movement
this summer. You got him there, you got mikey Acmont
in there as well. What's the most important part to
know on how those two players potentially fit on the
fourth line.

Speaker 5 (14:19):
It's going to be very interesting because you also, you know,
you'd think the team would want to find a spot
for Ryan wind Roland. He plays center, he can play
center and and and so you know Hayden's the center. Yeah,
it's going to be quite a battle for that fourth line.
I would think Mallonson is a guy that that you
you really want to see up here next season. And
I think he'll get a shot in trading camp to

(14:41):
make the team coming out of camp. So you know,
he's just tough as they come. He's got it that
goes looking for the physical play. So you know, you
so he's going to have If he has one of
the spots and Acey Mont gets another one, then you
know you've got Hayden and and you know other guys
like Winners and those guys battling. Yeah, Tyer Carter, Yeah,

(15:03):
I'm sorry, I forgot to mention his name. That's a
big fine for me right there in kangaroo court. It's
it's it's no. I mean no, seriously, and like he's
going to be competing for a job as well, and
you know, you know there would be a time where
I assumed he would he would have the job. You know,
I think he's got something to proof going into camp
next next season, and I should everybody, frankly. I mean

(15:26):
this team, this team underperformed this year, so I mean,
going in the next season, there's a lot of guys
with a lot of stuff to to prove. He's going
to be one of them, and he's gonna have to
battle for a job. He has the advantage of having
been here though for for parts of three seasons at
least if he count the playoffs. So he's been here
for two plus seasons now, so he gets a little
bit of an edge there. But yeah, you can see

(15:47):
it's it's going to get off with tight on the
bottom line. And normally I would say a guy like Winterton,
you know, they probably want him to play a little
higher up. But you look at at some of the
talent they have, you know, going higher up. I mean
the three centers are locked down, and then the wings
are getting very crowded. You know, they're going to bring
some guys in this year, So this summer, that's the plans.
So we'll see, we'll see where the room is going

(16:09):
to be on the roster. There's not gonna be a
whole lot of it.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
If I can be your witness in kangaroo court, I
was only trying to complete your own sentence right there.
Jeff Baker joins us right now, VP of Editorial for
NHL dot Com. Slash cracking last win five nothing over
the Canucks Wednesday, Jeff, and barring a miracle, many are
pinning that crack and win over Vancouver as the death
knell of the Canucks season. What caught your attention the

(16:32):
most about it with no Elie Toulvenan and no Jayden Schwartz.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
I think the cracking picked up where they left off.
They played a very aggressive game. They gave as good
as they got. They didn't back down from the physical play,
which has been a bit of a problem with the
Canucks at times throughout the history of these two teams.
I think they got goaltending too. They got excellent goaltending
from Joey to Court. I think goaltending was a huge
difference in that game because you look at the ross stats.

(17:00):
K knocks actually you know, controlled quite a bit of
the play. They had quite a bit of shot differential.
The difference being you know thatcher Denco didn't look very
good between the pipes at times for the Canucks, especially
the chandler of Stevenson goal. I thought he was almost
standing behind his own goal line, so so he steven
didn't wait too so much of an angle on that shot,

(17:21):
you know, as opposed to Shane Wright, who was wonderful,
you know, very similar fashion up over the shoulder on
a perfect shot, a rister that he took his Denco
did cut down the angle on that, but he didn't
look as good enjoyed the court. Looked. That might have
been his best game of the season. So that's huge.
So we see, you know, when the Krack and get
some goaltending, you know, and they show up and they

(17:41):
play and they they don't back down from the physical stuff.
I think, you know, good things can happen. I mean,
they look good off the rush. They didn't have as
many shots on goal, but when they when there was
a transition and play, they got to puck up the
ice very quickly, and you saw that lead to some
quick goals. And I think guy Asamont looked, uh you know,
I think he had one of his best games since

(18:03):
he joined the Crack. And uh you know, he scored
the goal, he should have scored a second goal. I
had the goalie beat dead to rights at the crossbar,
and just he was making some moves when he got
the puck, making some plays. I'm saying, this guy doesn't
look like a fourth line guy. Looks like a second
line guy or even a top line guy. Some of
some of the moves he was making play and playing
his usual physical game on top of it. When you're

(18:24):
on the fourth line, you got to be physical and
uh yeah, you know, so it's just going to be
interesting to watch the Crack and going forward now that
they're a getting a little more size, a little more hap,
a little more aggression. UH would be interested to see
what kind of a team they're going to be to play.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Against tonight in San Jose. The Crack and aiming for
a split in the four game series, And this is
a battle of two teams looking to make a big
play for their next step. And I think it can
be really compelling if you look at it this way.
On the Cracking side, Veniers right, Newman, Riker Evans, Decord,
where are they going to be in a few years?

(18:59):
The show going through a full blown rebuild, Matt Man, Celebrini,
will Smith, William Ecklund, et cetera. Where are they going
to be in a few years? But how much do
you think that we've learned about what lies on the
opposite side of the red line here for a game
like this, Jeff, Well.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
There's guys with a lot to prove on both sides.
I don't think there's a whole lot of compression between
the two teams when it comes to builds and rebuilds.
I think they're very different situations. I think, as you mentioned,
the Sharks going through a folk ledge rebuild the Kraken.
In many ways, they're still building off their original expansion roster,
and so you know, what you're seeing here is a

(19:37):
mix between young guys and older guys on that team.
You're not gonna have too many Brandon Montours and Chandler
Stevenson's playing for the San Jose Sharks right now. Whereas
the Krack and have those guys. They have the Everlas,
they have the Schwartzes, and then they got the younger
guys coming up as you mentioned, but not young celebrini
type guys. I mean, you've got guys like Copocaco who've

(19:58):
been around, you know, playing pro hockey for five six
years now, and you've got you know, told them in
the same same same thing, you know, six years as
a pro. You've got you know, but they're still young.
They're still twenty five and under. A lot of these
guys been years now. He'll be entering his fourth full
year as a pro. Shane Wright is a little different.
He's younger. So we've got youth with the Crack and

(20:19):
that it's experienced youth, and then you've got the young,
young guys that are really coming up, guys like Yannie Newman,
who are really the first full fledged other than Maddie
Vanier's the full first full fledged scoring prospects that were drafted,
you know, specifically for what they could do offensively and
hoping that some of them would be game breakers. And
you know, we might even see Berkeley cat in great
camp put the team, depending on his status because he

(20:41):
you know, he has to go back to junior hockey
if he doesn't stay in the NHL, So that'll be
interesting to watch. So we're going to start to see
that blend mix in, whereas with the Sharks, a lot
of it's been torn down, sold off parts, and you know,
draft picks that are up there playing, so it's a
little different. I think they're several years away from being
a real force in the NHL. If that even happens,
you know, we'll see the Buffalo Savers say hello, yeah,

(21:04):
you know, they've gone through this for twenty years. So
it took the Edmonton Oilers about seven or eight years
for it all to finally click. So you know, that
remains a d seen. That's the danger when you do
a full fledg tributbuild. Everybody wants it. Everybody wants to
tear it all down, you know, until they actually do it,
and then you got you know, double Blackhawks playing with
Connor Benard and looking around for some help and you know,

(21:26):
get getting destroyed every night on the ice. So, you know,
very different situation with the Cracking right now. I think
the Cracking are actually in a position to contend for
a playoff spot all through next season, if not even
make the playoffs. I'm not saying that because I work
for them. I just I believe in what's happened with
the roster and I think they have to do the
job this summer. But you get a couple of impact

(21:48):
guys which they say they're going to do, it could
really have a different look for this hockey team.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
Well, they will have money here to spend. They pledged
on spending last season.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
They did.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Now the compelling question is what's next with what they're
going to have at their hands coming up here for
this next offseason. By the way, I love that you
brought up Berkeley Catton for a dynamic player like him.
What's he going to be like after nine games? That
could be a very very interesting decision to begin the season.
All right, Jeff, thanks Tom pal rest well. Appreciates you.
I can't wait to hear if it happens you're low

(22:20):
down on recovery as well as you get back to
full health. Appreciate you, Bud, Appreciate you too.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
I've got to do more investigation into that and more
research and then I'll let you.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Know great stuff. Research is power, right, Jeff Fae, thanks
so much. Appreciate you. Jeff Baker joining us again VP
of Editorial for the Crack, and you can, by the way,
find his handywork at NHL dot com slash Kraken. In
the social media landscape, you can also find Jeff at
x at Jeff Baker NHL. Jeff Baker joining us here

(22:53):
ahead of the game against San Jose. Well, the Crack
can have one more chance to get a win out
of the Sharks. That's been a pretty toughestie I met
here for this season, like others as well as the Kraken,
aiming for a split head to head, though they got
the best of San Jose last matchup in the six
to two victory back on January thirtieth. Jared mccannon among
those to watch. You're heading into this game with seven

(23:15):
points over the course of the last five outings. Tyler
to a fully among those to watch on the Sharks side.
The veteran Ford leads the Sharks with three goals over
the course of the last five games, and we'll keep
our eye on Mattlan Celebrini and Will Smith recent dry
spell they've come up with no goals over the course
of the last five. San Jose will miss the playoffs
for the sixth consecutive season. They come off a three

(23:37):
to two lost Thursday to the Edmonton Oilers. They have
seven games left in the regular season and this evenings
game will be game two of three in their home stand.

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
